I believe, Kavignar Kannadasan & MGR were opposite poles in politics but on professional front, never disliked each .
Now when it comes from Kavignar himself, well well well, its enough to say .

No one else need to glorify MGR better than Kavignar !

Adimai Penn is getting released Tomorror in Melody, Sri Brinda, chrompet vetri and in kancheepuram Narayanamurthy in chennai and Kancheepuram areas :cool2:

MGR's charm and charisma is still alive among people. The yesteryear hero, who had a huge fan-following, went on to become the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.

The actor still has a huge fan-following in the State and several songs of MGR are being remixed and retuned and the titles of MGR movies are being recycled now.

His blockbusters like 'Nadodi Mannan' and 'Ayirathil Oruvan' were re-released last year only to witness good crowds in theatres. The latest to be re-released is 'Adimai Penn'.

Directed by K Shankar, 'Adimai Penn' features MGR and Jayalalithaa in lead roles. Music is by M.S.Viswanathan.

Dhivya Films is distributing the film. 'Adimai Penn' releases this Friday.

Monsoon rain sweeping Chennai for the past 3 days, hampering every day life of the City. For MGR fans it is celebration time. MGR pictures magnum opus production and Box Office record film of 1969 "Adimai Penn" was released in 5 theatres; 4 (Abirami, Melody, Sri Brinda, Vetri) 1 in Kanchipuram (Narayanamurthy) and another record of 4 shows in 4 theatres for second release. The theatres Abirami, Melody and Sri Brinda can accommodate nearly 900 persons per show. And Melody is screening 'Adimai Penn' for the first time.

Sri Brinda experience:

As planned earlier I went to Sri Brinda for the matinee show and my friends for the evening show in Melody. There is no end for the rain it started as a drizzle on Friday went on to Monday morning. I reached theatre half drenched, nearly 5 minutes, morning show ended and the fans with heart content came out. Some of the fans set fire to crackers - which obviously did not go well due to rain. And some fans lighted camphor near the cut out placed in the Entrance of the theatre.

While waiting I over heard some comments made by Die Hard MGR fans and one family came as far as from Veppampattu to watch this movie. I saw larger number of families came to watch Adimai Penn.

The print was very good and I contacted my friends and they said all the prints distributed for screening are also good. It was claps, praise and whistles when MGR comes on the screen and utters one liners. And cursed when the Villains laugh. Everyone enjoyed every frame of the movie.

The climate got still worse in the evening. Now it was raining heavier. But the movie hall and adjacent road was crowded. The function was conducted by "Kalaiventhan MGR" It all started with Band music, garlanding MGR and placing candles inside the theatre and near the screen. Film personalities like 'Kundu' Kalyanam, C.K.Sarawathi also came to watch the spectacular show.

The movie hall was filled with fans and also with all kinds of flowers. Media such as Press, TV's especially Jaya TV covered the function. Well, I get these songs from various sources, including you :lol: ! Your collections in photobucket are great too but I only look for motivational/philosophical songs. You seem to know a lot of info instantly, how do you do that ? Do you have a lot of collections of old movies and songs ? If you do, will appreciate it if you can upload the video of the songs I have listed above, especially "Naloru Medai", "Kannai Nambathey" and "Thambikku Oru Paattu". I have searched almost the entire internet but couldn't find the video of these songs.

Really surprised to know the song Thuninthu Nil Thodarnthu Sel is for Major Sunderajan. The lyrics and voice of TMS seems like a MGR-type song. A great song but wasted on a wrong actor. I think motivational songs best suited for MGR. They don't have the same effect when used by other actors.

This is for the last 2 words of the song. The official version of the song will end with "Medaiyil mulanggu Thiru Vi Ka pol". But I am quite sure I have once listened to another version which ends with "Medaiyil mulanggu Arinyar Anna pol" and this seem like the original version. I always wondered why they need to change since Arinyar Anna is MGR's mentor. Anyone know why ? Tfmlover ?

Even in gramaphone disc it was "arinJar Anna" only ..But in movie it changed to 'Thiru.Vi.Ka' pol ..The reason is censor borad didn't allow Praising Arinjar Anna in a song ,the reason might be at that time Anna was demanding 'Thani Thamizh nadu' .

Btw,It is not only this song ,many times censor board didn't allow direct mentioning of DMK leaders name ,so MGR had to do it indirectly ..Example MGR named the movie "Anna Nee en Deivam" (Partly completed and later the scenes used in Bhagyaraj's avasara police 100) ,so in movie it denotes sister character calling Hero (MGR) as GOD ,but everybody know who MGR refering to as ANNA.

Anyway, if you listen to this song carefully, the lyric "Thiru Vi Ka Pol" doesn't seem to mix with the song as the voice seem to be louder than the song. I think instead of re-recording the whole song, they made TMS sing this lyric and later added it to the original song, replacing "Arinyar Anna Pol".

I remember TMS telling that irrespective of lyrics and music any song can go wrong if they are not projected well on screen. he also said apart from them, it was people like MGR who transformed them well on screen so that they fcan appeal well to the people. so, he too shares his credit if not fully :)

So, you are a Sivaji fan. Do you realise the songs in his movies wouldn't have been popular if not for MGR, in the same way you say the dialoques in Sivaji movies became popular due to him. We call it "MGR songs" due to that. You think if TMS or the song writers had acted in the songs instead, people would have bothered to watch ? :lol: In my opinion, when it comes to inspiration and philosophical songs, it is best suited for MGR than any other actors including Sivaji. Sivaji is best remembered for his dialogues while MGR is for his songs. This is why even today there are still demands for "MGR Thatthuva Padalgal". You can see that anywhere including internet or any music shops. In fact, I haven't come across a term such as "Sivaji Thatthuva Padalgal". It is a known fact, when you refer to "Thatthuva Padalgal", you refer to MGR songs.

Don't want to discredit other actors but just realised one thing. Most philosophical songs of other actors are sad songs that will make you more sad while most of MGR songs are inspiration songs that will lift your spirit when you feel down. I think most Sivaji songs and movies shows the realities of life and history while MGR songs and movies teaches you how to overcome the difficulties and be successful. I guess that is why they call them Nadigar Thilagam and Makkal Thilagam.

Figuring in this list is the famous Bangra beat in ‘Kudiyiruntha Koil’ (Aadaludan Padalai Kettu Rasippathilethan Sugam ... Sugam) featuring L. Vijayalakshmi and M.G. Ramachandran.

For her performance, Viji, as the leading lady of yesteryear is popularly known, was hailed as the dancing genius. The heroine of more than 100 films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi is today a merry-tempered chartered accountant working as Budgeting Officer of Virginia Polytechnic University in the United States. Dance has been a passion for L. Vijayalakshmi. And, that was why her family shifted from Pune to Chennai in search of a Bharathanatyam guru for her. She was a quick learner and acclaimed dancer Kumari Kamala, who was her inspiration, presided over her ‘arangetram’.
New find
Critics and magazines had then praised her as a new find - a combination of Kamala and Vyjayanthimala. She used dance as a ladder to films, fame and fortune.
Film directors and producers took a fancy to her dancing skills; they sensed that a dance sequence by Viji in their film could be useful. The first offer was a Telugu movie. It was a dream come true for her. Telugu industry was fond of classical dance, and almost all films in Telugu opted for Viji’s dance sequence.
“It was then that Tamil industry opened its doors for me,” says Viji. ‘Bhavani’ was my first Tamil film. Modern Theatres’ ‘Edhirigal Jakkirathai’, ‘Iru Vallavargal’, ‘Vallavan Oruvan’, ‘Kaakkum Karangal’, ‘Ayirathil Oruvan’; Sridhar’s ‘Sumai Thangi’ and ‘Panchavarnakili’ made me a big star.”
“Jayakanthan’s ‘Pathai Theriyudhu Paar’ was produced by Nimai Ghosh in Hindi, and I acted with Meenakumari. Then, I acted with Mehmood in ‘Shabnam’, which gave me recognition in the Hindi belt. And, then I turned to Malayalam. I acted with Prem Nazir in three movies, including ‘Laila Majnu’.
“‘Ooti Varia Uravu’ was my last film [in the late 1960s]. It was during this film that my brother’s friend, Suraj Kumar De Datta, an agricultural scientist working in the Philippines, saw my photograph and fell in love with me. He proposed to me on the sets.”
Tough decision
With a prosperous film career ahead of her, it was not easy to take a decision. But, her parents helped her make the choice by highlighting the significance of getting married at the right time.
After ‘Ooti Varai Uravu’ she bid adieu to the film industry.
A pure vegetarian, Viji found it difficult to take a bite of the fish she was offered as part of the Bengali marriage ritual. In 1969, she settled down in Manila, and with nothing else to do took up higher studies. Agriculture was her chosen subject.
In 1977, when the then Prime Minister, Morarji Desai, visited Manila, the Indian Embassy there asked her to give a dance performance at a function organised in his honour. “Morarji ‘bhai’ called my husband lucky when he saw my Bharatanatyam performance,” Viji said. “I shifted to the U.S. in 1991 and studied CPA (Chartered Public Audit) and got a job as Budgeting Officer in Virginia Polytechnic University.”
On her Bangra dance with MGR in ‘Kudiyiruntha Koil’, she said: “You know... I am yet to receive my payment for the dance. Bangra sequence was new to Tamil movies then. Chopraji master had introduced the dance to the State for the first time in that film. And that is why it is still a superhit. On the shooting day, MGR watched me dancing and was horrified. ‘Ayyayoh… I cannot match Viji’s fast movements…’ he said, and withdrew.”
“I saw him discussing something with Chopraji and the shooting was put off. The song sequence was shot after a month. I was told that MGR had practised Bangra for a month to dance with me. It seemed full of fun… Even today people sing this song whenever they see me…”

Vijayalakshmi acted with the leading actors of the day, including MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, Prem Nazir, Jaishankar and Muthuraman. She acted with Jaishankar in many films. According to her, Nagesh is the best dancer the industry has produced, and she had the opportunity to dance with him in ‘Kaakkum Karangal’. L. Vijayalakshmi now lives with her husband and son in the United States.

MAN OF THE MASSES

The name MGR moved millions like a mantra. His transformation from an uncrowned monarch to an absolutely undisputed leader of the masses happened like magic. He could keep the masses on his side always and could win elections, even when he was hospitalised in an alien land. His glory was always at the zenith. Even years after his death on 24th December 1987, it continues to be so.

The masses loved him because he loved them. 'Good-natured; vallal' will invariably be the response that you would get, when you utter his name. And all of us know that it is not an exaggeration. He was known for his humanity and love for fellow human beings.

the following incident is only one of thousands of others, when his good nature came to the fore.

One of the technicians on the sets of Urimaik Kural got the message of the death of his mother. He informed MGR and was about to leave for performing the last rites. MGR was moved to tears. He held the technician by his hand and consoled him. His quality of helping the distressed surfaced immediately and gave Rs.10,000/- to meet the expenses. The technician hesitated. 'Please give me this opportunity of partaking in your grief. I am doing this as a matter of filial duty to your mother,' said MGR. The technician was moved to tears. Was it due to this nice and timely gesture and the kindest of words or was it due to his personal loss, is anybody's guess.

Years rolled past and MGR became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The same technician had come to see him. MGR was leaving for the Secretariat, in his car. There was a big crowd at the gate and the technician could not reach him. The car had already started rolling. Fortunately, MGR chanced to see him and stopped the car. He called him to his side. The technician handed him an invitation for his son's marriage and requested his presence. MGR was all smiles and assured him that he would attend, if time permitted. He gave him a bag as the car accelerated. The technician could not believe his eyes when he saw that it contained one lakh! After all, he came to meet MGR and invite him. Nothing more than that. He did not even imagine that he would receive such a huge amount. He was ever more grateful when MGR attended the marriage to bless the couple.

His colourful life was full of such incidents. He believed strongly in helping the masses, the oppressed and the distressed. The reason why he is loved by the masses and even worshipped. Kind-heartedness and love for fellow human beings are becoming rare qualities. No wonder his memory is celebrated to this day.

All the while, I have only heard "Kadavul seitha paavam". Surprised to see the one you uploaded, "Kadavul thantha paadam". If it is the same song with 2 different versions, why would they changed it ? Someone offended by the original version ?

A poor villager who slogs the whole day for his daily food doesnt need to continue with his suffering even while watching a movie. He goes to a theatre to relax. Here MGR is the winner . He provides total entertainment in the form of <<<<< Good picturisation, pleasing songs, thought provoking lyrics, good moral values , some interesting fight scenes, dialogue exchanges between MGR and Villain all as a package.

He had to struggle a lot to become a hero. He didnt become a hero overnight.

At the height of his career ( though he was approaching 50 years ) , he was shot on his throat . Despite the severe impairment, he didnt go for dubbing voice :shock:
He continued with his own voice . That defines MGR . He believed in himself & won everything in life.

In the movie, Nadodi, are there 2 versions of song starting with lyric "Kadavul" ... "Kadavul thantha paadam" and "Kadavul seitha paavam" ? Or are they 2 different songs in the movie ? All the while, I have only heard "Kadavul seitha paavam". Surprised to see the one you uploaded, "Kadavul thantha paadam". If it is the same song with 2 different versions, why would they changed it ? Someone offended by the original version ?

hmm.. There is a diff in seeing middle aged MGR and the old MGR . There is a diff in watching MGR in movies like "tharmam thalai kaakkum", "Naadodi mannan", "ulagam sutrum vaaliban" etc when compared to MGR in "ithayakkani" etc !
He could have avoided those last few movies IMHO

Disagree on the second one :notthatway: Had he known the pulse of his fans, he would have given many more aayirathil oruvan or even a movie like "Naan aanaiyittaal" compared to ithayakkani. I like "Pallaandu vaazhga" though except latha.

[tscii:7cb24cca06]Poor Muka Muthu has been deserted by his own Daddy ! I think , he is the senior most amongst the Kaliagnar clan. But Stalin has put in more effort to reach this level in party.
I remember reading one magazine earlier where Stalin praises MGR a lot & even says that his Dad was very reluctant to take action against MGR. However, people like Nedunchezian etc influenced him and the final call on MGR’s suspension ! Kalaignar must have repented a lot later on this worst decision of his life.
There is another rumour that MGR and Kalaignar both spoke few days before he passed away.

In Bangalore, I buy the VCD / DVDs in LandMark present in Forum. :P That is the only place where we can get HW / BW /KW /TW/ SW movies ( in a single place :P ) Apart from that, I don't remember any other place where we can get them :)

That reminds me. There are also many movies with the name "Kattalai". Arasa Kattalai(MGR), Aandavan Kattalai(Sivaji) and I am sure I have seen a few other movies with the name "Kattalai". It is funny the amount of competitions to name movies in those days. Ofcourse they somehow manage to prevent any ugly fights between them. If that is to happen today, there will be suing and counter suing between the people involved, not to mention gang fights between their fans. :lol:

But the real tribute to the departed AIADMK founder and three-time Chief Minister was paid in the bylanes of Tamil Nadu where devout MGR fans put up small thatched pandals, placed a framed picture and garland around it and played old hits from MGR films.

“For people like me he is God. He gave my father a cycle-rickshaw when he acted in the movie Rickhawkaaran and when he became Chief Minister my mother got employment in a noon meal center,” said Saravanakumar, an autorickshaw driver in Chennai’s Santhome area.

While Jayalaithaa is the major beneficiary, other politicians too are eying the pie. Actor Vijayakanth, having launched his DMDK more than a year ago, does not tire of calling himself “Karuppu MGR” (Black MGR) in an attempt to woo the MGR fan. He says he inherited MGR’s campaign van, as if that would qualify him to be an inheritor of the MGR legacy.

“However hard Vijayakanth tries, people see only the AIADMK and Jayalalithaa as the true inheritors of the MGR legacy, though Jayalalithaa has built her own constituency in the past decade.

Karunanidhi even today finds it difficult to shake off MGR’s description of him as an ‘evil force.’ That is the power of MGR’s charisma,” explained Thuglak editor Cho Ramaswamy.
The MGR impact can be clearly seen during a drive through the state - his statues in varying sizes outnumber those of any other leader. Barring the DMK, every other political party makes it a point to play MGR film songs at political meetings.

And during the AIADMK's election campaign there is invariably someone masquerading as the political MGR in fur cap and dark glasses or a filmi version gallivanting on the stage to one his songs.

“One reason for this is that MGR did not stop being the perennial do-gooder who took up the cause of the poor only in his movies but lived up to that image even when he came to power. The free noon meal scheme that he implemented amidst so much of opposition earned him the gratitude of millions of mothers. Even Karunanidhi, who initially dubbed it as a scheme that made beggars out of our children, today serves eggs as part of the scheme,” pointed out former AIADMK Minister and present BJP MP S Thirunaavukarsar.

தொப்பியும் இல்லாமல், கண்ணாடியும் அணியாமல் என் முன்னே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். ஒரு நாள் முழுக்க அவரோடு இருந்து அவரது அசைவுகளை எழுதுவதற்காக நான் அவர் அறையில் அமர்ந்திருந்தேன்.காலையில் எழுந்து பல்துலக்கியதுமே ராமாவரம தோட்டத்திற்குப் போய் அவரோடு அவருடைய காரிலேயே கோட்டைக்கும் போய்விட்டு மதியச் சாப்பாட்டிற்கு திநகர் ஆற்காடு (முதலியார்) வீதிக்குத் திரும்பியிருந்தோம். எம்ஜிஆர் சாப்பிடத் தனது அறைக்குப் போனார். எங்களுக்குக் கீழே சாப்பாடு ஏற்பாடாகியிருந்தது.

அவரது ஆற்காடு முதலி வீட்டில் (இப்போது நினைவகம் இருக்கிறது) அவர் இருந்த காலத்தில், தினம் மதியம் 100 பேராவது சாப்பிடுவார்கள்.அது சாப்பாடு இல்லை. விருந்து. ராமவரத்திலும் காலையில் ஒரு 50 60 பேராவது சாப்பிடுவார்கள்.பகல் 12 மணியிலிருந்து மதியம் இரண்டு இரண்டரை மணி வரைக்கும் யாரைப்பார்த்தாலும், அலுவலக உதவியாளர்கள், ஐ.ஏ.எஸ். அதிகாரிகள், சந்திக்க வருகிற பார்வையாளர்கள், லி·ப்ட் இயக்குநர். கார் டிரைவர், என யாரைப் பார்த்தாலும் 'சாப்பீட்டீங்களா?' என்பதுதான் அவரது முதல் கேள்வியாக இருக்கும்.

சாப்பிட்டுவிட்டு மேல அவரது அறைக்கு வந்த என்னைப் பார்த்து "சாப்டீங்களா?" என்றார். "ஆச்சு" " என்ன சாப்டீங்க? சைவமா அசைவமா?" என்று கேட்டு "ஓ! நீங்க அசைவம் சாப்பிட மாட்டீங்கல்ல?" என்று அவரே பதிலும் சொல்லிக் கொண்டார். என்ன மெனு என்று சொல்லச் சொன்னார். ஏதாவது ஒன்றிரண்டை விட்டு விட்டேனோ என்னவோ, வெடுக் என்று கையைப் பறித்து உள்ளங்கையை முகர்ந்து பார்த்தார். "ஸ்வீட் சாப்டீங்களா? என்ன ஸ்வீட்?" என்றார். எங்களுக்கு அன்று ஸ்வீட் பரிமாறப்படவில்லை. நாங்களும் அதைப் பொருட்படுத்தவில்லை. சாப்பிடுவதற்கா போயிருக்கிறோம்? கோட்டையிலிருந்து திரும்பும் போதே இரண்டு மணி இருக்கும். அதற்குள் பல பந்திகள் முடிந்திருந்தன. ஸ்வீட் தீர்ந்து போயிருக்கலாம். எங்கள் மெளனத்தைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு காலின் கீழ் இருந்த அழைப்பு மணியை அழுத்தினார். அவர் அதற்கான விசையை அங்கேதான் வைத்திருந்தார். உதவியாளர் வந்தார்." "இவங்களுக்கு சாப்பாட்ல ஸ்வீட் போட்டீங்களா?" என்றார். உதவியாளர் எங்கள் முகத்தைப் பார்த்தார். 'போட்டுக் கொடுத்திட்டீங்களா? பாவிகளா?" என்பது போல இருந்தது அவர் பார்வை. மெளனமாக இருந்தார். ஒரு நிமிடத்தில் எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் முகம் சிவந்து விட்டது,
"இப்படித்தான் தினமும் இங்கே நடக்குதா?" என்று இறைந்தார். "எத்தனை நாளா இப்படி நடக்குது/" என்றார் மறுபடியும். உதவியாளர் ஸ்வீட் தீர்ந்து போன நிலையை விளக்க முயன்றார்." அதெல்லாம் எனக்குத் தெரியாது. இப்ப இவங்களுக்கு ஸ்வீட் வரணும் என்றார். சிறிது நேரத்தில் ஒரு பெரிய தூக்குவாளி நிறைய ஒரு லிட்டர் பாசந்தி வந்தது. அதை அப்போதே நாங்கள் சாப்பிட்டாக வேண்டும் என வற்புறுத்தினார்.

ஏன் சாப்பாடு சாப்பாடு என வற்புறுத்திக் கொண்டே இருக்கிறார் என்று எனக்குள் ஒரு கேள்வி. அவருடைய சத்துணவுத் திட்டத்தைப் பற்றிப் பேச இதுதான் சந்தர்ப்பம் என்று எனக்குத் தோன்றியது. அந்த திட்டம் பற்றிய விமர்சனங்களை வீச ஆரம்பித்தேன்." மக்களுடைய வரிப்பணத்தை எடுத்து இப்படிச் சோறு போட செலவழிக்க வேண்டுமா? தொழிற்சாலைகள் நிறுவி, மக்களுக்கு வேலை கொடுத்தால் அவர்கள் தங்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்குச் சோறு போட மாட்
டார்களா?" என்று என் கேள்வியை ஆரம்பித்தேன்.

அதற்கு பதிலாக அவர் தனது இளமைக்கால சம்பவம் ஒன்றை விவரிக்க ஆரம்பித்தார்." அப்போது நான் பாய்ஸ் கம்பெனியில் நடிச்சிக்கிட்டு இருக்கேன். பாய்ஸ் கம்பனினா என்னனு தெரியுமா உங்களுக்கு? Kamarajar started 'Mid Day meals scheme' ,(if I am not wrong )until primary schools ..It was not rice with sampar ,but ChoLam with sugar ..MGR changed into Rice with vegitable and termed as 'sathunavu' and extended upto 10th standard ,and allocated huge amount of fund for it ..As usual ,opposition parties criticised the scheme ..but it became succesful and when kalainjar came to power ,he had to exend it more by adding eggs.

Selvakumar, by 'alien' i mean a person from a different planet. The alien here is a funny character who takes the other MGR from earth to his own planet.

But MGR done single roll only, and the man coming from other planet in 'Parakkum Thattu' is M.N.Nambiar. (When I was doing my B.Com in New College at Chennai Royapettah, there was a tailor in Peters Road, who was keeping in his tailoring shop, two big portaraits of MGR & Nambiar in diffrent costumes along with the tailor also in it. We enquired him about the portaraits and he replied, those big photos are from 'Kalai Arasi' and he & his brother have done costumes for that movie. So they are keeping the portraits for memory. This is my own experience).

After these informations, I was tempted to watch that movie and was searching for it. Finally after two years, Kalai Arasi was screened in Kapali Theatre at Mandhaveli, and I have watched it two times within a week, because it was a rare to watch.

Any way MGR fans must have known by now that this film is available in all stores in Tamil Nadu in the form of VCD. Modern co. has released the video.
Regarding Gulae Bagaavali, it is two words. Gulae means Rose, and Bagaavali means a small country i.e. kurunilam. There is a song in that film starting with Bagaavali Naattilae. MGR had tremendous movie making skills . Song picturisation . This song has a large noof shots brilliantly capturing all the key corners of the Expo 70. Look at each shot. Mind blowing work by MGR ! Every frame almost has a background worth watching . The highspeed train is breathtaking shot ! Couple of shots taken from Cable car is magnificent.

Cho rejects it and throws the Gulla to the other Cho, who in turn throws it away, saying "Chi, indha thoppi yenakku vendam". This whole scene was in bad taste. It was evident that the comments were made on MGR. I was quite surprised when I saw this scene as I have seen several old movies/scenes praising MGR but none criticizing him. Was Cho directly against MGR during those times? Rather he acted with MGR in some of MGR's last movies right?

லேகியத்தின் பலன்களை நாம் சினிமாவிலும் பார்க்கலாம். எம்.ஜி.ஆர் காதல்காட்சிகளில் மூன்றுவகை நடிப்புகளை வெளிப்படுத்துவார். நெளிந்து நின்று கீழுதட்டை கடித்து அரைப்புன்னகையுடன் மேலும் கீழும் பார்ப்பது [பறித்தாலும் துணிபோட்டு மறைத்தாலும் பெண்ணே…] கதாநாயகியின் பின்னால் வந்து நின்று அவள் இரு புஜங்களிலும் பிடித்து சரேலென்று ஒருபக்கமாக விலக்கி காமிராவைப்பார்த்து உதட்டைச் சுழிப்பது. இடையை ஒசித்து ஒசித்து செல்லும் [ஷாட் முடிந்தபின் சரோஜாதேவிக்கு இடுப்பில் எண்ணைபோட்டு சுளுக்கு எடுப்பார்களாமே] கதாநாயகிக்கு பின்னால் துள்ளி ஓடுவது. இதைத்தவிரவும் பல சிட்டுக்குருவித்தனங்கள். சிறிய மேடுகளில் இருந்தும் பெஞ்சுகளில் இருந்தும் விருட் விருட் என்று எம்பிக்குதிப்பது. ஓடும்போதே சுழன்று வருவது. ஒரு இடத்திலிருந்து இன்னொரு இடத்துக்கு தாவுவது.

வயலில் மேயும் எருமையைக் கண்டு பதறிக்கூப்பிடுவதுபோல எம்.ஜி.ஆர் கைநீட்டி நீட்டி பாடும் ஒற்றையாள் பாட்டுகள் எங்களூரில் ரசிக்கப்படவில்லை. ‘என்ன நீக்கம்புக்கு கைய நீட்டுதான்…பாடணுமானா ஒரு பாகத்தில அனங்காம இருந்து தொடையில தாளமிட்டா போராதா?” என்று தங்கையன் மெம்பர் அபிப்பிராயப்பட்டார். மேலும் எங்களூரில் ‘சத்தியமான ஆவிக்குரிய சுவிசேஷ எழுப்புதல்’ கூட்டத்துக்கு வரும் வெள்ளைக்காரப் பாதிரிமார்களும் ‘ஓ ஸின்னர்ஸ்!’ என்று கூவும்போது அப்படித்தான் கைகளை நீட்டிக் காட்டுகிறார்கள். [அருகே நிற்கும் உள்ளூர் உபதேசியாரின் தமிழாக்கம்: கர்த்தாவை மறந்து நித்ய நரகத்தை நோக்கி சென்று கொண்டிருக்கும், நெறியும் விலையும் கெட்ட அவிசுவாசிகளான , கோயிலுக்கு தசம பாகம் கொடுக்க கணக்கு பார்க்கக்கூடியவர்களான, விரியன் பாம்புக்குட்டிகளே!] எம்.ஜி.ஆர் ‘அதோ அந்த பறவை போல வாழவேண்டும்’ என்று பாடும்போது ‘அதோ ஏசு மேகங்களுடனே வருகிறார்!’ என்றுதான் நானெல்லாம் கேட்டு பரவசமடைவேன்.

அத்துடன் மழையில் நனைந்து பாடுவதையும் எங்களூர்க்காரர்கள் விரும்பவில்லை. தென்குமரிநாட்டில் வருஷத்தில் ஏழுமாசம் மழை. ‘எளவெடுத்த மழையாலே பிள்ளைய பெருத்துப்போய் பிளைக்கவும் பளுதில்லியே’ என்று நொந்துபோயிருக்கும் மக்களுக்கு மழையில் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் சரோஜாதேவியுடன் சேற்றில் குதித்து ஆடுவது கடுப்பேற்றியது. ”அந்த பட்டத்திக் குட்டிக்கு பிராந்துண்ணா இவனுக்கு எங்க போச்சு புத்தி? ஒரு நாலு நல்லவாக்கு சொல்லி எடுத்து உள்ள கூட்டிட்டுபோயி சுக்குவெள்ளமோ மற்றோ குடுக்கப்பிடாதா? வல்ல நீர்தோசமோ மற்றோ பிடிச்சா பின்ன இவன்லா வச்சு பாக்கணும்?”

எம்ஜிஆரின் நடிப்பு சீரானது. அவரது கை இடுப்பில் இருந்தால் அவர் நகைச்சுவையாக நடிக்கிறார் என்று பொருள். அவர் சுவரை நோக்கி திரும்பிக் கொண்டால் அழுகிறார். முகவாயை தடவினால் கிண்டல் செய்கிறார்- அனேகமாக காதலியை. அவர் என்றுதெரியாமல் அவள் ‘யோவ்’ என்று கூப்பிடும்போது குறிப்பாக. [அடி போடிக்கண்ணு எல்லாம் தெரியுமடீ எனக்கு முன்னாலே] சிரித்தபடி லேசாக குலுங்கினால் வில்லன்களை அடிக்கப்போகிறார். ஒரு கிழவி தள்ளாடி நடந்துபோனால் எக்கணமும் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் வெட்டுக்கிளி போல பின்னாலிருந்து தாவி வரப்போகிறார். கனத்த எடையை இழுக்கும் ரிக்ஷாக்காரருக்கு கண்டிப்பாக அஞ்சேகால் நொடிக்கு அவர் இழுத்து உதவிசெய்வார். எங்களூர் ரசிகர்களுக்கு இது குழப்பமில்லாத நடிப்பாக இருந்தது. சிவாஜி மாதிரி , கொஞ்சம் மழை பெய்கிற படத்தை டெண்டுகொட்டகையில் ஒலியின் உதவியை மட்டும் கொண்டு பார்க்கும்போது குலுங்கிச் சிரிக்கிறாரா குலுங்கி அழுகிறாரா என்ற குழப்பமெல்லாம் வருவதில்லை.

நம்பியார் நடிப்பும் அதேபோல கச்சிதம். உள்ளங்கையில் இன்னொருகை முஷ்டியை சுருட்டி குத்திக் கொண்டு ‘ஜ்ஜ்ஜ்ஜக்கூ’ என்று உறுமினாரென்றால் பந்தம் கண்ட பெருச்சாளி போல விழித்தபடி ஜஸ்டின் வருவதும் அடுத்த காட்சியில் அடிதடியும் உறுதி. மாறுகண்ணோ என்ற ஐயம் வரும்வரை இரு கண்களையும் உருட்டிக்கொண்டாரென்றால் நம்பியார் சதி செய்கிறார். மீனை விழுங்கும் பறவை போல அண்ணாந்து சிரித்தாரென்றால் எதிரே எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் அப்பா அம்மா அல்லது அண்ணி அண்ணா இருவரும் கட்டுண்டு கிடக்கிறார்கள். இருபக்கமும் தலையை திருப்பி திருப்பி ,சூடான டீயை வாயில் விட்டுக்கொண்டவர் போல கழுத்துச்சதைகள் அதிர சிரித்தாரென்றால் கதாநாயகியின் ஜாக்கெட்டை தோள் பகுதியில் மட்டும் கச்சிதமாகக் கிழித்து கற்பழிக்க முயற்சி செய்கிறார் என்று பொருள். குருசாமிக்கு உண்மையான கற்பழிப்பு நோக்கமெல்லாம் கிடையாது என்பது அவர் இறுக்கமான கால்சட்டை, சட்டை அதன்மேல் எல்லா பித்தானும்போடப்பட்ட கோட்டு , ஷ¥க்கள்,எல்லாம் போட்டபடியே பாய்வதிலிருந்து தெரியவரும். சமயங்களில் டையைகூட அவர் கழற்றுவதில்லை.

எம்ஜிஆர் தமிழ்ப் பண்பாடும் தவறுவதில்லை. [ இப்படித்தான் இருக்கவேண்டும் பொம்பிளை…] பாட்டில் கதாநாயகியை புல்தரையிலும் மணலிலும் போட்டு புரட்டி எடுத்து , மெல்லிசான சேலை உடுத்திருந்தாளென்ரால் மழையில் நனைய வைத்து, காமிரா பக்கவாட்டில் இருக்கிறதென்றால் முந்தானையை பிடித்து இழுத்து, உதட்டைக் கடித்தபடி பின்னால் துள்ளி ஓடி இடைபிடித்து இழுத்து அணைத்து, அவள் கால்கள் நடுவே காலை நுழைத்து ராமன் வில்லை வளைப்பதுபோல வளைத்து, அவளை பூச்செடிகளுக்கு பின்னால் இட்டுச்சென்று இரு பூக்களை ஒன்றோடொன்று உரச வைத்து, பாறைமேல் படுக்கவைத்து மேலேறிப்படுத்து நாஸ்தி செய்தாலும் பாட்டு இல்லாதபோது பண்பாக ”அதெல்லாம் கையானதுக்கு அப்பம். நீ இப்ப வீத்துக்கு போ” என்றுதானே அவர் சொல்கிறார்? [ராதா சலூஜாவை அவர் மேலாடை களைந்து குளிப்பாட்டின காட்சியில் மெய்மறந்து விட்டு வீடு திரும்பும்போது என்னிடம் எட்டான் கேட்டான்.”ஏம் மக்கா, இதாக்கும் இல்லியா இந்த இதயக்கனீண்ணு செல்லுகது?]

கடைசியாக, சண்டைக்காட்சிகள். அவற்றைச் சின்னக் குழந்தைகூட பார்க்கலாம். ரத்தம் கிடையாது. மரணம் இல்லை. கௌரவமான இடங்களில்தான் அடி. அம்பாசிடர் காரில் எம்ஜிஆர் வரும்போது ஜஸ்டின் எதிரே தன் ஆட்களுடன் வந்தால் என்ன செய்வார்? காரை அப்படியே தலைக்குமேல் தூக்கி சிலம்புக்கம்புகளை தடுப்பார். மேலும் ஆட்கள் மரியாதை தெரிந்தவர்கள். தலைவர் கால்மடக்கி அமர்ந்து தலைக்குமேல் தூக்கிய காரால் நூற்றி என்பத்தியாறு சிலம்புகளை தடுத்து புஜம் புடைக்கும்போது ஒருவருக்கும் ஒரு சிலம்பை உருவி அவர் கணுக்காலில் ஒன்றுபோட்டாலென்ன என்று தோன்றாது. எங்களூர்க்காரர்கள்தான் ”ஏலே வலத்தால உருவி சொளட்டி வாங்கி அடிலே…ஏல மீச, நீ நிண்ணு உருவி எடம் வந்து அடில…நிக்கானுக பாரு அறுப்புக்கு சூடடிக்குத லெச்சணமாட்டு…”என்று கூவுவார்கள். தெலுங்குப்படச் சண்டைகளில் யார் எங்கே எவரை அடிக்கிறார்கள் என்று தெரியாமல் ஒரே ‘பாஸ்ட் ·பார்வேட்’ துள்ளலாக இருக்கும் என்பதனால் எங்களூரில் அவற்றுக்கு மவுசு அதிகம். ‘அடிச்சா அந்தமாதிரி அடிச்சணும்லே மக்கா.கிருஷ்ணாவை பாத்தியா குண்டியிலே கரண்டடிச்சவன் மாதிரில்லா துள்ளுகான்?”

எம்ஜிஆர் சண்டைக்காட்சிகளை கோயில் பூசாரி கேசவன் போற்றி ‘பிரசாதம் வெளம்புதல்’ என்று அனுபவத்தால் வகுத்தார். கொஞ்சம் நெரிசல் இருந்தாலும் அடிவாங்குகிறவர்கள் வரிசையாகத்தான் வருவார்கள்.அடி வாங்கிக்கொண்டு பின்னால் சென்று அதை சாப்பிட்டு கையைத் துடைத்தபின்னர்தான் மீண்டும் வருவார்கள். ஒருவரோடொருவர் முட்டிக் கொள்வதில்லை. ஒருவருக்கொருவர் வாங்குவதில் தள்ளுமுள்ளும் இல்லை. அடி முடிந்தபின் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் சுண்டல் தீர்ந்த போற்றியைப்போலவே கையை தட்டுவதும் உண்டு.

கடைசிக்காட்சியில் நம்பியார் மனம் திருந்துவது எங்களூரில் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளப்படுவதில்லை.’தொழிலாளி’ படத்தில் எம்ஜிஆர் அடித்து இடுப்பை உடைத்துபோட யானைமேலிருந்து விழுந்தவர்கள் போல வில்லன் கோஷ்டி ஆங்காங்கே சிதறிக்கிடக்க ”ராஜா!’ என்று அதுவரை கட்டில் கிடந்த அம்மா ஆனந்தக் கன்ணிருடன் வந்து கட்டிக் கொண்டு கதாநாயகியை நோக்கி ”வாம்மா” என்று அழைத்து தலையை தடவிக் கொண்டிருக்கும்போதுதான் போலீஸ் சைரன். குறுக்குப்பட்டை அணிந்து அமெச்சூர் முழி கொண்ட இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் படைகளுடன் உள்ளே வந்து ”மிஸ்டர் கபாலி யூ ஆர் அண்டர் அரெஸ்ட்” என்று சொல்லி பின்னால் கையை சுழற்றி பிடித்து நம்பியாரை எழுப்பி எம்.ஜி.ஆரிடம் ”வெல்டன் மிஸ்டர் ராஜா…உங்களைப்பத்தி நாங்க எங்க மேலிடத்திலே சொல்றதா இருக்கோம்” என்று சொல்கையில் நம்பியார் தலைகலைய குனிந்து உதட்டை இறுக்கமாக வைத்துக் கொண்டு ”நான் வரென் மிஸ்டர் ராஜா. நீங்க உருவாக்குற புதிய சமுதாயத்திலே என்னை மாதிரி புல்லுருவிகளுக்கு இடமில்லை” என்று சொல்லும்போது குலசேகரம் செண்ட்ரல் தியேட்டரில் ”பின்ன என்ன மயித்துக்குலே நீ நடிக்கதுக்கு அட்வான்ஸ் வேங்கினே?”என்ற ஆவேசக் குரல் கேட்டது.

ஆனால் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் படத்தில் பாடல்கள் அர்த்தமுள்ளவை. ‘ஆண்டவன் உலகத்தின் முதலாளி..அவனுக்கு நானொரு தொழிலாளி!’ அப்படியென்றால் ஏமாற்றலாம். கூலி கேட்டு வையலாம். போஸ்டர் ஒட்டி நாறடிக்கலாம். இது இப்போதைய சிந்தை. அன்றெல்லாம் பாட்டு புரிவதில்லை. ‘தம்பீ நான் படித்தேன் காஞ்சியிலே நேற்று…” காஞ்சி என்றால் என்ன? தொடுவட்டியில் வாங்கின சாணித்தாள் பாட்டுபுத்தகத்தில் பொதுவாக பிழைகள் அதிகம். ஆகவ&#301

I haven't read his novels, but I know him involving in lot of controversies. He was accused of plagiarism too. As far I've seen, he is an attention seeker and this is the best example.

Perhaps the most historically significant film of 1951 was K. Ramnoth’s Marmayogi, a Jupiter Pictures’ production made at Central Studios in Coimbatore. This film, a folkloric tale of kings, royal mistresses and rebellious princes was written by A. S. A. Sami who had planned it specially for M. G. Ramachandran.

MGR who made his debut as hero in Sami’s Rajakumari was aware that the success of that film was due to reasons other than himself. It had action, trick scenes, entertainment, sexy dances and the hero was only an auxiliary cause and nothing more. So MGR persuaded Sami to write a script built around him to boost his image as a social rebel, do-gooder, and a fearless fighter for the underprivileged. MGR was an ardent filmgoer and a fan of Hollywood action heroes such as Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn. Fairbanks fascinated him more and he modelled himself after this famous American idol of the Silent Era. Sami worked on a script, a mix of literary and classical elements, for MGR. Inspiration was drawn from the novel “Vengeance” by Marie Correlli and the legend of Robin Hood! MGR was cast as the younger prince who rebels against a woman who usurps his father’s kingdom and lets loose a reign of terror. The king pushed off a boat by his mistress, and presumed to have drowned, escapes and lives in disguise as a mysterious saint (hence the title Marmayogi) and also parades as a ‘ghost’ at nights. The hero turns into a Robin Hood and leads the masses to victory. The name of the hero — Karikalan –— was deliberately chosen to impress and exploit the new feeling of ‘Tamilness’ among the people.

In films of this genre, names of heroes are mostly Sanskrit derivatives such as Veerasimhan and Pratapan. But Sami went for a typical Tamil name, after the name of the famousTamil king, Karikala Chozhan.

Initially the title of this film was Karikalan. Later it was changed so that people don’t mistake it for a historical film. Ramnoth revealed his talents with his technically slick direction. Sama as the king, Anjali Devi as the power-crazy mistress and Sahasranamam as the elder prince performed their roles well. But the movie belonged to MGR. Every word of his dialogue was planned and written to build a special image for him and the lines had multi-layered meanings. One of the lines summed up MGR’s ambitions, personal, and political … “Naan kuri vaithaal thavara maatten! Thavarumey aanaal kuri vaikka maatten!” This dialogue became popular and was greeted with gleeful screams in cinema houses. Strangely the Censors gave Marmayogi an ‘Adults Only’ certificate. Why? The film had a ‘ghost’ and hence the ‘A’ certificate!

Marmayogi’ received a warm welcome from the masses, especially the rapidly increasing rank and file of the MK party. With this film MGR’s image brightened and his career as a political figure was established. Soon he acquired a prefix to his name “Puratchi Nadigar”!

கையில் சவுக்கால் நம்பியாரைப்புரட்டியெடுக்கும் எம்ஜியார், கிட்டத்தட்ட அவர் நடித்த முக்கால்வாசிப் படங்களில் பார்த்து பழக்கப்பட்டவர் என்றால், நம்பியாரிடம் சவுக்கடி வாங்கி புழுவாய்த்துடித்து, 'இனிமேல் போக மாட்டேன் மாமா' என்று கதறும் எம்ஜியார் எல்லோருக்கும் புதிதானவர். இறந்துபோய் படமாக இருக்கும் அப்பா, அம்மா படத்தின் முன் நின்று அழும்போதும், தன்னால் தன் அக்காவும் கூட அடிவாங்கி துடிக்கும்போது, கோழையான தன்னால் எதுவும் செய்ய தைரியமில்லையே என்று பரிதவித்து நிற்கும்போதும், மாமனின் கொடுமைதாளாமல் இப்படி தினம் தினம் அடிவாங்கி சாவதைவிட செத்துவிடுவது மேல் என்று கிணற்றில் விழப்போகும்போதும், சாப்பாடு தரமறுக்கும் சமையல்காரனிடம் எதிர்கேள்வி கேட்கமுடியாமல் பசியோடு திரும்பி வரும்போதும், ஓட்டலில் யாரோ சாப்பிட்டுவிட்டு போனதுக்கெல்லாம் செர்த்து தன்னிடம் பணம் வாங்கிக்கொள்ளும் சர்வரிடம் 'என்னைப்பார்த்தால் எல்லோருக்குமே கேவலமா இருக்கு' என்று சொல்லிக்கொண்டே காபி வேண்டாம் என்று போகுமிடத்திலும்....

கோழையாக இருப்பவர் திடீரென்று, அல்லது மெல்ல மெல்ல வீரனாவதாகவெல்லாம் காண்பிக்காமல் அவரை கடைசி வரையில் கோழையாகவும் பயந்தவராகவும் காட்டியே படத்தை முடித்திருப்பதில் 'சாணக்யா'வின் சாணக்கியம் தெரிகிறது.

அதுக்காக இன்னொரு எம்.ஜி.ஆரும் வழக்கமானவர்தானே என்று ஒதுக்கிவிட முடியாது. தவறுதலாக, அல்லது எதேச்சையாக சரோஜாதேவியின் வீட்டுக்கு வந்துவிடும் அவர், சாப்பாட்டில் காட்டும் தீவிரமும், விவரம் புரியாமல் குழப்பமான வசனங்களைப் பேசிக்கொண்டே அவர் அடிக்கும் லூட்டியும் நம் மனதில் குதூகலத்தைக்கொண்டு வரும்.

முதன்முதலாக நம்பியாருடன், மாளிகைக்கு வரும் அவர் அங்குள்ள் அசாதாரண சூழ்நிலையையும், அங்கு நடக்கும் கொடுமைகளையும் கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக ஊகித்துக்கொண்டு.... தான் யாராக இருந்தாலும் அங்கு நடக்கும் அநியாயங்களுக்கு முடிவு கட்டவாவது தான் அங்கிருக்க வேண்டியது அவசியம் என்பதை கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக முகத்தில் கொண்டு வரும் காட்சி அருமை. இந்தப்படத்துக்குப்பின் ஏன் அவர் இந்த நடிப்பையெல்லாம் காட்டவில்லை என்பதற்கு நம் மனதில் தோன்றும் விடை ஒன்றுதான். ஷாஜகான் ஏகப்பட்ட தாஜ்மகால்களைக் கட்டி வைத்துவிட்டுப் போயிருந்தால் நாம் ஒரேயொரு தாஜ்மகாலை வைத்துக் கொண்டாடிக்கொண்டிருப்போமா?. அதனால்தான் இவரும் ஒண்ணே ஒண்ணு கண்ணே கண்ணுன்னு இருக்கட்டும் என்று இதைத் தந்துவிட்டுப்போய்விட்டாரோ?.

அவர் ஏகப்பட்ட படங்களில் இரட்டை வேடங்களில் தோன்றியிருக்கலாம். ஆனால் இரட்டை வேடமென்றால் நடிப்பில் ஒன்று மாதிரி ஒன்று இருக்காது என்ற வகையில் நம் நினைவுக்கு வருவது 'எங்க வீட்டுப்பிள்ளை' தான்.

In this movie you can see makkal thilagam acting skills .. and there was one graveyard scene, which will have 15 mts, where makkal thilagam will cry.. He will not close his face.. Excellent acting.. I don't know, why he stopped those kind of acting in the later movies...

Thanks for the link on Mohini. I am hearing about this film now only. :lol: I am sure I won't get a dvd or vcd for this film. I am yet to get that for kaanchi thalaivan.


However, the roots of MGR’s social activism as do-gooder and champion of the under-dog were seen in this film. In a forest-scene, he rushes to rescue a family travelling in a bullock-cart from being robbed by a gang (a not yet known M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar as the main robber, a minor role!). MGR also did sword-fighting scenes for which he was already gaining a reputation.

After the demise of MGR when Janaki was the Chief Minister for a few weeks, Mohini was re-edited bestowing more importance on the MGR-VNJ pair, as part of the State election-image-building strategy by the Janaki-headed party. But it did not work.

Recently they showed Ninaitathai Mudippavan. I found it to be highly enjoyable. Typical story, two MGR, one bad. Switch places, blah, blah, blah.

But I liked both MGR's performance. One was bad to the core and he dies! Probably second death after starting out as hero (First in Pasam). The other MGR was funny, and very entertaining. I loved the songs and there were some interesting action seqeunces.

Now, why do many people dislike this movie? My own dad, a hardcore MGR fanatic, wrinkled his nose when I wanted to talk about this movie. When I asked him why, he didn't want to talk about it, like hiding some ugly secret or something.

இப்படத்தில் இன்னொரு விசேஷம், வழக்கமாக எம்.ஜி.ஆர். படங்களில் கெட்ட வில்லன்களாக வரும் நம்பியாரும், அசோகனும் இதில் நல்லவர்களாக, அதுவும் போலீஸ் அதிகாரிகளாக வருவார்கள்.

நல்லதொரு பொழுதுபோக்குப்படம (இந்தியில் வந்த 'சச்சா ஜுட்டா' வை தழுவி எடுக்கப்பட்டது). மெல்லிசை மன்னரின் இசையில் பாடல்கள் அத்தனையும் அருமை.

போன்ற மிகவும் ஹிட்ட்டான பாடல்களோடு, அதிகம் பாப்புலராகாத (பி.சுசீலா, வாணிஜெயராம் இணைந்து பாடிய) 'கொள்ளையிட்டவன் நீதான் கொட்டி வைத்தவனும் நீதான்' பாடலும் அருமை. (படத்தில் மஞ்சுளா - லதா போட்டி நடனம்). ஒரு பாட்டுக்குக்கூட இந்தி ட்யூனைத் தொட்டிருக்க மாட்டார் மெல்லிசை மன்னர்.

Now, why do many people dislike this movie? My own dad, a hardcore MGR fanatic, wrinkled his nose when I wanted to talk about this movie. When I asked him why, he didn't want to talk about it, like hiding some ugly secret or something.

Why?
As an entertainer it is OK. I think many might have diff of opinion due to his looks in the movie. MGR looks great in movies like Chandrodayam, tharmam thalai kaakkum etc. In these colour films, his hair style and body language won't be that attractive (again relatively ). I don't know why he went with that hair style for most of his last films. Moreover, the villan role didn't suit him much. Compared to that, he played the double roles well in 'Enga veetu pillai'. What do you think ? :D

Can't compare with the earlier double role film, because here he is a bad guy. Neerum Neruppum takes this approach, except the other MGR is jilted and angry, but not bad per se.

It's tough to see MGR as bad guy, but he did his best here, infusing gimmicks, "style" and whatever he can. I think he did alright. The other actor might have done something more monstrous, but MGR takes a more cool path, not to alienate his fans, I believe. But padam odavillai, Yeen?

Yes, I forgot to mention this. This is rather unique, considering that Nambiar and Asogan actually goes after MGR as good guys. And Nambiar makes a cool cop.

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 29 (IANS) Inspiring songs of late M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), Tamil cinema's eternal hero till the eighties, come handy for a Malaysian Indian candidate who seeks votes for the opposition, invoking "Makkal Sakthi" (peoples power).

With wife Kalairasi in toe, P. Ramasamy, a political scientist, seeks vote for the opposition Democratic Action Party (DAP) for the March 8 polls.

The candidate for the Batu Kawan parliamentary seat, who is also contesting a seat for the Perai state legislature, "has taken a leaf from Kollywood (Tamil film industry) to woo Indian voters," reports The Star newspaper.

"Sporting a neatly-trimmed grey beard, Ramasamy resembles an ageing rock singer rather than a political scientist.

"Just before nomination day Sunday, he trimmed his greying hair, making him look some five years younger," the newspaper said.

Ramasamy and his wife Kalairasi did their walk-about in Sungai Bakap segment of the constituency despite the rain Thursday to woo voters.

Ramasamy is a Tamil, whose ancestors migrated from India during the British colonial era. The Tamils comprise much of the 2.5 million ethnic Indian community that forms eight percent of the 27 million population of Malaysia.

Ramasamy, 58, a political novice, is pitted against ruling coalition Barisan Nasional's hevyweight, Koh Tsu Koon, 59, in one of the hotly contested parliamentary seats in country.

Dr Koh, who is contesting in his seventh general election, "is expected to win easily but some quarters are not ruling out Ramasamy emerging as a giant killer," says the newspaper.

This is because Indians, who comprise 23.7 percent of the 47,378 voters in Batu Kawan (Chinese 55.5 percent and the rest Malays) are said to be unhappy with the state government for neglecting them over the years.

In the last elections, Barisan Nasional candidate Hun Cheng Guan won the seat by a mere 2,446 votes after taking into account the total number of votes secured by the two opposition candidates.

Knowing that he is the underdog, Ramasamy is going all out to woo Indian and Chinese voters.

At a rally Wednesday night, an MGR song blared the moment Ramasamy was invited to address the 300-odd crowd.

Another MGR song was played when he ended his speech, said The Star correspondent.

Displaying his gung-ho spirit, Ramasamy said he was ready to debate hot issues in parliament.

"Koh is a nice and humble person. But, do you think he has the courage to stand up against Umno?" he repeatedly asked the Chinese crowd during the walk-about.

Umno is the party of the indigenous Malays who form the majority population of Malaysia.

The first one would have suited his campaign well. Being malaysian tamil, the song could have reminded the old times. I guess and it might be a juvenile comment from my side too. :oops: Just a thought !

actually MGR songs had nothing to do with the win, as it was political tsunami carrying across the nation. the plantiff cry was "makkal sakthi" used by the entire opposition of different races (which was started by Hindraf)
