Shivaji is like no other Indian Film
'All the roads lead to Rome' is an old proverb. 'All the people's and the media attention is only on Shivaji is the new proverb in south Indian cinema. This is no exaggeration. The entire state of Tamil Nadu is going crazy about Shivaji after the audio launch of the film. Young boys and college students have been seen changing their hairstyles like Rajini's in the film immediately after the release of some photographs from Shivaji. Many ardent fans of Rajini purchased the CDs and cassettes with their own money and supplied them to their neighbours free of cost! At the same time, some people sold the CDs in black market for Rs.250 today as the demand was greater than the supply. Nearly 80,000 CDs got sold out on the second day, and the sellers have requested the production house to send another 1 lakh CDs to meet the increasing demand. According to the 'Music World' show room manager, people are prefering to purchase CDs rather than cassettes. He told us that he has seen more crowd today than on Monday when the audio was formally launched. AVM sources say that its audio distribution wing has supplied nearly 5 lakhs audio CDs and cassettes all over south India. They also say that there is an amazing response for the audio in Mumbai as well. According to them, more than 38 thousand audio CDs were sold in Kerala only. This is for the very first time that an audio in a different language has sold in the state in such a huge number, they claimed. CD Sellers of Chennai Ritchie Street, the whole sale audio marketers for the entire south, told us that they had never seen such a high demand for a film's audio in the past 25 years. Pradeep of Supreme audio said, "On Monday, I opened my shop at 5 in the morning. When I reached there, there was a long queue waiting to purchase the Shivaji audio in front my two shops. It was quite unbelievable. One person, who had come there with a mini CD player, listened to the songs on the spot. He distributed sweets to the gathering there immediately after he felt satisfied with the Shivaji songs. This is really amazing, and I have never experienced any thing like it. The whowle country hasnt experienced anything like this. The super star has breathed a new life into the audio market through his film Shivaji. There is no doubt that Rajini has always ruled southern cinema and he is the real super star in the country!" Probably going withe present hype, AVM Productions has plans to bring out a short film about the making of the film. No other Indian film has created so much hype like Shivaji has done in India or abroad. This film will be an unforgettable one for its producer AVM Saravanan, who is going to complete his 50th anniversary in film production. Before Shivaji, he has worked with the Superstar in 8 films. Before this, none of his films have made excited him so much neither has any of his films made him as proud as Shivaji has. In fact Shivaji, alias Rajini, has given a new life to the legendary production house on its 70th anniversary. Before the announcement of Shivaji, there was distribution of the ownership rights of the AVM Studios between the AVM brothers. AVM Saravanan got a lesser portion of the Studio premises. At this critical situation, he gave away the entire rights of the Tamil films produced under AVM banner to his younger brother AVM. Balasubramanian. At a time when Saravanan was planning for some other projects to survive in the industry, Rajini came forward to allot his prestigious call sheets. He recommended Shankar's name to direct Shivaji. After the formal announcement of this project, the entire industry was up and about. There are hundreds and thousands of news, gossips, and debates doing the rounds about this film in the media, as well as the public. It is Shivaji, which has kept online journalists always in alert. For the first time in the world, some of the portals 'released' the complete songs of the movie with lyric notes online. But the curiosity for this film hasn't faded due to this leak. Infact, it has helped a lot in the film's overseas popularity, in a different way. Keeping all these facts in mind, AVM Saravanan has asked the director to shoot a film on the making of Shivaji, simultaneously with the film. This film might feature all the stars including the 'King of Southern Cinema' Rajini and the director Shankar. Other technicians, including the incredible A.R. Rahman, cameraman, lyricists, dance masters, stunt masters...will share their unforgettable moments of association with Rajini and the film, Shivaji, in this curtain-raiser. The crew has titled this as 'Making of Shivaji - The Boss' and it will be of one hour in length. The CD and DVD of this short film will be circulated to the press at the time of Shivaji preview. AVM has planned to circulate the CDs to the outlets for sale, a after few days of the release of the film.

The ROARING literally ROARING success goes to rahman, rajini and shankar. Its not just one alone. If Rahman doesnt have anything to do with the success of the audio then why didnt we hear these things with CM music. If Rajini doesnt have to do anything with this why didnt we hear anything like this for some (just some) of Rahman's movies? If Shankar didnt have anything to do with this success why didnt we hear this with baba?
THE KEY HERE IS THE COMBO!
50/50 marks awarded to rahman for producing soul stirring, mind blowing, leg shaking, life sucking music.
30/30 for attracting his massive army to listen to what RAHMAN created 8-)
20/20 for extracting the music out of rahman (bonus will be awarded later for his picturization)
Therefore,
Sivaji = 100/100 :!: :!: :shock: 8-) :idea:

Athiradi: The way the man man man bit comes after the second interlude is just terrific, exactly after the electric guitar bit. Also the way the female singer hums along with the guitar bit in the postlude is amazing

Guys, Ill be honest with one thing here. When many ppl said that Rahman's music grows on u, I didnt trust them. For me i either liked it or not at first hearing and it stayed that way. It happened for the first time. I listened to Athiradee when i was in US and I didnt like it a bit (first time). I came back to canada after two days i listened to it, god damn what an amazing song. thats runnign continously!

[tscii:093ef0f85f]Rajini fans elated
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, April 05, 2007]
Superstar Rajinikanth’s fans lavish praises on AR Rahman. Die-hard fans of Rajinikanth are happy with the songs in Sivaji and are appreciating Rahman for coming up with quality music for the movie.
The audio sales are reported to be very fast and the CDs and cassettes are moving out brisk from the shelves of the audio stores.
An avid Rajinikanth fan says, “No doubt these songs are going to top the audio charts. Ballelaka by SP Balasubramanyam is a typical Rajinikanth intro song. The songs are really rocking.”
Avid fans of Rahman are happy with the album as well. They say in chorus, “The songs have created a huge curiosity about the movie. We are eagerly waiting to see the film on the screen.”

A R Rahman pleases his fans
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, April 05, 2007]
The most-awaited album of the year Shivaji was released in Kerala last week.
In the film Sivaji -- The Boss which has the biggest Tamil cinema stalwarts lined up under highly reputed AVM banner -- director Shankar, lyricists Valee, Vairamuthu, Pa Vijay, Muthukumar, superstar Rajinikanth in the title role, the composer A R Rahman has lived up to his name has delivered half a dozen songs which will be chart toppers for the season.
A R Rahman's compositions fly ahead of the trends, as usual by a trend setter, but the lyricists have milked Rajnikanth's screen image to the fullest painting a larger than life picture of the hero comparing him to the sun, moon and even Shiva the destroyer with lines like 'he can even turn Tamil Nadu into Americas.'
Thousands of albums were sold from each major outlet in the first couple of days in the state and this is good news especially when concerns were expressed about the lean phases of music industry.

Record created by 'Sivaji' audio sales
'Sivaji' is set to create many a record. In just one day after the audio got released, the sales was enormous.
The audio sales is located in Chennai's Ritchie Street. To buy the cassettes and CDs, dealers and fans from out of town thronged into the street the earlier night itself. The morning saw a densely crowded street. The cassettes and CDs brought in vans were sold out as soon as they were loaded off. Small shops also did great sales.
Milk abhishekham and aarathi for Rajini photos by fans, gave a festive atmosphere. Since 3 songs were already available on the Internet, the fact that the audio sales was such a sell out is a feat indeed. AVM had sent 2 lakhs each of cassettes and CDs and by afternoon, all were sold out.
Such a response to audio sales has hitherto not been seen. In 'Sivaji,' there are 2 songs the fans can dance to and 2 songs for them to sing along and enjoy. "Oru koodai sunlight, oru koodai moonlight..." and "Sachin adichaa sixer thaandaa, Sivaji adichaa puncture thaandaa.." will make one want to dance. Hummable tunes are "Sahara pookkalum..." and 'Vaaji vaaji vaaji en jeevan nee Sivaji."
The 'Sivaji' songs were broadcast on all FM stations the night before audio release. A Rajini fan says this is a 'small' welcome for the film that is to be released soon.
Then imagine what it would be like the day 'Sivaji' gets released. It is mind boggling!

Shivaji is like no other Indian Film
By: Settu Shankar
Wednesday, April 04, 2007
There is no doubt that Rajini has always ruled southern cinema and he is the real super star in the country!"
Probably going withe present hype, AVM Productions has plans to bring out a short film about the making of the film.

[tscii:7b688a2082]Shivaji album focuses on Rajni’s charisma
The audio is out and the verdict as well. Super Star’s Rajnikanth’s Shivaji directed by Shankar contains songs written by top tamil film composers which eulogises the film persona and charisma of the Super Star than relating to the character he plays in the film. In short, these lyrics are penned with Rajni’s charisma in mind and does not in any way compare to the lyrics written for other films directed by Shankar which revolved more around the film and its story content. And the verdict is: it is a sure fire hit with Rajni fans.
The audio of Shivaji was officially out on April 2. Though three songs of the film were released through some websites in an unauthorised manner, there was a great demand for the cassettes and CDs of the film. And all the songs of the film seems to have been liked by Rajni fans who look for songs that eulogises his personality and charisma. And A R Rehman’s music compositions have also done wonders in creating the right magic for the album.
Take the case of Oru Koodal Sunlight number. The lyrics of the song have been written by lyricist P Vijay keeping Rajni’s mannerisms and styles in mind. And Vijay creates a new phrase to describe the Rajni persona. He is ‘Heeraththil Hero’. You can draw your own conclusions as heera means diamond. It looks like Rajnikanth wants to echo his own feelings in the song written by Na Muthukumar. The foot tapping number Balleilakka song rendered by SPB reminds you of Rehman’s earlier song composition ‘Veerapandi Kottayile’ in
Thiruda Thiruda . After eulogising the Tamil and Tamilian, the lyricist goes ga ga in describing the super star. He is called as Shiva, the destroyer, Sun and Moon and what not. He can also turn Tamil Nadu into America, says the lyrics which is intended to satisfy the large section of Rajni fans who want him to make an entry in to politics. (Annan Vandha Tamil Nadu America). Another song by Na Muthukumar has this punch line which describes the Rajini as a person who can gobble up a lion like a jalebi. And there is also another punchline; “Sachin adicha sixer thaan da, Sivaji adicha puncher thaan da.” Veteran writers Vairamuththu and Vaali have also written lyrics for the film. Vairamuthu’s song Sahana has all the ingredients to become a chart buster and even a highly impressed Rajnikanth has congratulated Vyramuththu. Veteran Vaali’s lyrics for his song may well look like a song written by an enthusiastic Rajni fan of 20. The song has lyrics that is made up of film titles of Rajnikanth starrers.

Sivaji bash costs a life
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
April 5, 2007
Sivaji's audio is breaking records after records. The film is also reported to be in the finishing stages with work on background score and sound effects going on. The release date is tentatively fixed on 17th of May. What else could be a better reason for a celebration? After all, the movie had been in the making for more than a year now.
Shankar made the call and threw a party to honor the sound recordists and engineers who had contributed towards success of the audio. The party was at the Shankar's 'Shanki' farmhouse at Neelankarai. Shankar, the name is synonymous with grandeur, not only in movies but also in personal life; the party which began during the late hours of April 4th went on till the wee hours of the next day.
Shankar, Superstar and AVM Saravanan though reported by few dailies as present in the party had not participated. "The party was more of a thanks giving event for the technicians involved in the audio and the re-recording of the movie", says a reliable insider.
Everyone present preferred to lose themselves in the joy of the moment. There must have been a generous offering of drinks as the events that took place later substantiate. Many of the guests were too intoxicated to drive home themselves and decided to put up at the farm house and leave in the morning after they had become sober. But, they woke up to a shocking sight late next morning. A person was found dead inside the swimming pool of the farm house. He was later identified as Sachidanandan @ Sachu (45), chief sound engineer by his assistant Lingam. The police were informed after the body was taken out of the pool. From the look of things, Sachidanandan had apparently fallen into the pool in a state of intoxication and was unable to call for any help. However the police have not given any official statement. The body was then sent to the Royappettah hospital for autopsy. The report is awaited. Sachidanandan is survivied by wife Kokila (35), daughter Revathy (11) and son Maithreyan (7).

Maddy,
You are wrong. Actually, it is like comparing the Apples (YSR) with Oranges (ARR). Albums like Chennai 28 and UU are huge hits not just because there was a person like ARR, Shankar, Rajini etc behind them. They are just simple albums which have become huge hits. Something ARR was doing during his peak period and even with Boys. So, That won't fit in the angle of Em-Magan and Varalaaru.
and Coming to the point of Dinesh, judging any album as "Good" is pretty subjective. That is what I tried to remind him. for e.g., when I heard "Perunthil Nee enakku jannal Oram song", It was incredible for me to believe that the MD was "Dina". You have said the same. "You got to be sportive. The audio is a record breaker now (as per the articles posted in this thread  ) Then why should u prove that. Sivaji songs may or may not please people who worshipped NYN, MV etc  But as u guys said, it is "SUBJECTIVE".
:rotfl: , thats like comparing Bharath's Em-magan performance(like YSR in CH-28) with Ajith's varalaaru performance(like ARR in shivaji)........ .....JK, :D
actually, dinesh, view of a "good album" is pretty subjective........many ppl. may like Ch-28 and Unnale Unnale better than Shivaji, u cant help it.... :D .......infact, none of these comments were unexpected, remember  .......so chill, and i guess we have to be more sportive on negative reviews on ARRahman..... .......well, i know its kinda boring to see the same comments b4 every ARR album, but thats the price we pay for being the fan of this guy....... 8-)

its a good question raised by selva - he is asking u1 and HJ have given hits like UU and Ch-28 (is it a hit really??) which are small units but ARR is able to give hits only with a huge team like Shivaji's......he was giving hits with small teams before which was his peak but is he doing it now???.....yhmmm
selva, i just have 1 thing in ARR's defence:- thats his performance:
2006 - SOK - is not a big team by any stretch of imagination....surya,tho a big actor, dont think has that much mass.......
2005 - Mayiliraghe - A Ah......well SJS is a comedian and still this song bcomes a huge hit........
2004 - new - again namma SJS annan dhaan.....
somewhere down the line, i feel, ppl. just dont want to see these things..... ......
selva, with or w/o a big team, ARR has performed, is performing, and will in the future too....... 8-)

[tscii]I know sivaji has seen much more success than this but anyhow all 7 songs on top: http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/ut/s/tamil/10/
Here is a review from the same site:
Audio Review : Sivaji – A R Rahman for Rajini fans
Producer: A V M
Director: Shankar
Cast: Rajnikanth, Shriya Sharan
Music: A R Rahman
Singers: Blaaze, Suresh Peters, Chinmayi, Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam, S P Balasubramaniam, Rehanah Benny, Rags, Tanvi, Vijay Jesudas, Gomathi Sri, Madhusree, Naresh Iyer, Raqueeb Alam
So, the most-awaited film of the year has arrived. ‘Sivaji’ brings all the big names in Kollywood together. People involved with the film includes reputed AVM banner, director Shankar, composer A R Rahman, lyricists Valee, Vairamuthu, Pa Vijay and Muthukumar, cinematographer K V Anand, dialogue writer Sujatha, art director Thotta Tharani, choreographers Prabhudeva, Raju Sundaram, Lawrence and Brinda. Above all, superstar Rajnikanth plays the lead role in it with Shriya Saran as his heroine. You just can’t ask for a better team than this. Music maestro A R Rahman knows his job really well. He has composed good music that matches the image of the hero. Lyricists too made full use of Rajini’s screen image.
The foot-tapping number “Balleilakka” sets right momentum for the album. It is beautifully rendered by S P Balasubramaniam and Rehanah Benny accompanied by soothing chorus. The fast pace of the song towards the end makes S P B sound breathless. A cocktail of fast beats and faint melodies in between is heard. Lyricist Na Muthukumar praises Tamilnadu and its people for the friendly relation with neighbors. He also portrays the hero in a larger-than-life image by comparing him to the sun, moon and Shiva, the destroyer. Do you think the hero can turn Tamilnadu into America? The song says he can.
“Oru Koodal Sunlight” is a racy number with lyrics penned by Pa Vijay. It is a fragmented number with bits of phrases and has a few coined names like 'heerathihero’ for the hero of the film. Rags, Tanvi, Suresh Peters and Blaze have sung this fast number, which has heavy beats. Tanvi's whispery rendition has given it a sensuous touch.
“Sahana Saral Thoovutho” is a melodious duet number well rendered by Udit Narayan and Chinmayi. Good chorus and western instrumentation accompany it. Vairamuthu's lyrics have freshness and originality. It is a good song.
The second version of “Sahana” is full of pain and pathos. Vijay Jesudass rendition is soulful and Gomathi Sri’s voice too has an identity of its own though she sounds a bit babyish. This number is much better than the first version but it is not included in the cassettes.
The number “Vaji Vaji” is the title track of the album with pleasing rhythm, good instrumentation, fast beats, lively chorus and melodious tunes. Hariharan and Madhusree have sung it beautifully and Vairamuthu's lyrics are fine too. It could become a chartbuster.
“Vata Vata” is the theme song rendered by Blaze, Naresh Iyer and Raqueeb Alam. It begins in hip-hop style and then shifts to rap. Lyricist Na Muthukumar once again praises the strength of the superhero.
Music maestro Rahman lends his voice for the concluding track “Athiradi”. Solo guitar and Rahman's high-pitched voice will make big impact among the listeners. Lyricist Valee has used titles of Rajini’s films and English words in the lyrics. This heavy number will surely go to the dancing floor. In short, this is a chartbuster in the making.
Rajini fans will have great time listening to the songs of the album, as they go in sync with the hero’s image. Rahman's music grows on you as you listen to them repeatedly. Except for the number “Athiradi”, the rest have nothing special on offer. However, the present generation will love it.

 A very good, unbiased, neutral review on the album. After having disappinted in reading the usual "Baradwaj Rangan's addiction to Rahmaan" (http://desipundit.com/baradwajrangan/2007/04/03/music-review-sivaji/), I am surprised to see a review which more or less matches what I have in mind.

I feel the songs are pretty ordinary except for Sahanaa - the Vijay Yesudass version. I dont know why MDs are still trying Udit Narayanan to sing Tamil songs when there are many better singers. He struggles in the upper octave in this. SPB's song is more like Kabadi k kabadi k kabadi k kabadi - particularly towards the end of the song. All in all an ordinary show by ARR. Let us wait for the movie to see the picturisation. lot of times the songs might be much better with video than in the audio.

Anand, unmai... but i noticed many people, when they review the song sololy, they will be praising the song... but when it comes to conclusion, they give a bad expression... like " this song is excellent " "This shows y ARR is one of the best in the bussines " and finnaly they conclude it as " Not an extraodanaire album "...
y????? when they can see beauty in 1 song by its own, y when to conclude overall they stabb the album on the back ??? this is not the only 1... ive came accross many reviews on Sivaji already which r like that....
is it becoz they feel bitter to accept the fact Sivaji actually sounded excellent after few listenin which def Anniyan & CM failed when it got released at 1st ....
Selva, i feel its so biased.... that person mentioned Guru had lukewarm respons... and Shankar opted HJ for Anniyan .... wut is the link there?!! !!

huh ??? Udit's couldnt perfrom well in Sahana ??? when i listened to Udit here...i was WOW !! Vijay.J's version was quite bad compared to the original thanks to some 'out of tune' renderatino by him... listen to 1:32 - 1:44 ... he actually couldnt stick with the pitch.... which was performed BETTER by Udit at that particular octave section....
come on.... wut is this odinary show by ARR here.... dont think anyone else could have even composed half of wut ARR did in Sivaji... check out every albums by ARR for Shankar ever since Gentleman up to Sivaji [excluding Anniyan] .... he alwiz gave something NEW to Shankar... and Sivaji is not an exceptional... u cant hear any Oru Koodai Sunlight or Sahana or even Vaaji Vaaji in any previous Shankar film .... Shankar didint want to experiment with HJ in Anniyan becoz he badly need a hit after that bad BO of Boys .... so for songs it was a clear cut he refered back to his old fimls/albums .... cant blame HJ for just giving a typical Shankar album, thats y it didnt face much objection as wut Sivaji is facing now...people was familar with the styles of the songs......
do not be shock if u listen to replicas of Sunlight or Sahana or Vaaji near future... that time... u people will say " Ohh... Rahman set the trend again " ... :!:

Mr.Dinesh, I am definitely not biased. I only talk abt the music not the star value of ARR or Rajni. Even in Guru in every forum I mention about "Ye manburu Mangaiye" song by Srinivas and Sujatha(a real gem from ARR) but nobody mentions that. Of course not worth comparing HJ with genius like ARR. even my comments on Sivaji are after some 5-10 hearings only. I am open to change after many more if they sound good & particularly with the video.

Sorry for making that sound as if I agreed with the entire review. I agree with his review on the album (Guess, we are speaking about the album alone). I never find any correlation about his relevance to Anniyan and terming this one as "not so extra ordinary" (because such thing will backfire for a rajini album)
My opinion would be :
The album is "WAY AHEAD" of all other "ARR - Rajini" albums ! :)
The album is a "Below Average One" when u take "ARR - Shankar" albums as the baseline.
That is the price u got to pay if u need a successful + quality album for a Rajini movie :)

Selva, i really feel that Sivaji is on par with the previous ARR-Shankar album... i mean... beein a ARR fan who have 'karaichi kudichi' all his songs... Sivaji is another Boys for 2007 .... think the factor RAJINI here is making everyone confuse about the ARR-Shankar typical touch which is very very visible in Sivaji ... its ok... time will answer....we still have 40 days for the movie to release... def the song will be apriciated even b4 the movie hits the screen.... :)

There is a Spanish lyric that goes:
Tengo marcado en el pecho,
todos los días que el tiempo
This is taken from the Gloria Estefan song "Hoy"

ARR fans, why do you expect everyone to rave about the album? Isnt it enough that you enjoy it?
The fact that ARR is the first choice of top rated film makers should suffice.
Also, Rajini fans have been escatic about the album; no one has threatened to burn down ARR's house like what happened previously.
Do not get entangled into individual tastes.

especially udit!....i dont get a tamil song feeling when this guy sings....there are no tamil singers?...
We have our own opinions. For me, Udit was the right choice for Sahana...
arr..his voice is unclear in adhiradee!but sounds a bit good!
There are 2 things here -
1) pronunciation, clarity of lyrics
2) Voice/Singing
While i agree that you do need a lyric book to understand 'Athiradi' lyrics, i thought Rahman's singing was fun. You don't *always* need to understand the lyrics to like a song. Point (1) is a different issue, i agree
[Sorry to digress but let me get this point across. Why i liked Rahman in Athiradi? I'm not comparing but just using an analogy here, It's something similar to why i like Kamal or IR singing. May not have the best voice, may not be the best singers around but its about what they bring to the song. Its purely personal]
One aspect of Rahman's music is his ability to 'surprise' - giving 'moments' of surprise (something which IR was a master of, he still shows glimpses of that even these days). I think 'Athiradi' is one such instance. Certainly not timeless but full of energy and 'pep'

tf....i have mentioned it sounded good(athiradee....)!
but the song would have been enhanced if the song lyrics are made clear i believe!
even oru koodai sunlight...that guy could have sung with less stress! and clear way!
have u heard "vallavan" pop album of malasian troop....hip -hop album...u should have heard...they pronounce tamil so wonderfully and that makes the song hear so good!
i believe ...if arr made the lyrics clear iit would sound even better...thats it

More often than not Udit is never a good choice for a Tamil song and especially so when he sings for Rajni. I cant believe with all the talent being churned out these days from TV channel shows, our MDs cant find someone down south to do these peppy songs. Main criticism in this album(and even previous ones) against Rahman is his choice of singers. Madhushree doesnt deserve to sing a single song yet. I wish we had a court for musical crimes, that would exile singers like her and Udit.
Vijay yesudoss himself could have sung the happy version too, if somehow SPB or HH was'nt the preferred choice for whatsoever reason. Kay Kay who has a strong voice and who has earlier sung for Rajni would have been another choice. Udit could sing a peppy number or two from time to time. Thats about it. Him singing melodies is inexcusable.

After hearing the songs and especially Udit's rendition of Sahara pookal, this could have been the "ennavale" with some other singer, nevertheless, if you see the history, SPB replaced TMS for MGR, then somewhere along the line, Janaki came full force sidelining PSusheela, then chitra outshown Janaki, Chitra was cast aside by swarnalatha, seeing this it always urks us to find why did this happen, it would have been better if the people we wanted sang it. apart from that, probably we would accept udit eventually and he could be digested.
That being said, I still like Athiradee (pattaiya kilapi tar ARR), SPB song is marvellous, Oru koodai is another pick, i love the fight music. Still I believe, nobody would have done justice for this movie, except ARR. SPB's song could become the best of the recent time entries for RK, cannot wait for the movie.

Selva, i really feel that Sivaji is on par with the previous ARR-Shankar album... i mean... beein a ARR fan who have 'karaichi kudichi' all his songs... Sivaji is another Boys for 2007 .... think the factor RAJINI here is making everyone confuse about the ARR-Shankar typical touch which is very very visible in Sivaji ... its ok... time will answer....we still have 40 days for the movie to release... def the song will be apriciated even b4 the movie hits the screen.... btw, just to remind guys - Thinkfloyd was awe of Athiradee song.....
if thinkfloyd's comments are taken neutrally, then letme see if that happens, when i say my opinions on sivaaji album....
1.ballelakka - nice song, ok to be an intro song for Rajni, intro chorus is different and attention grabbing. tune is slightly in the lines of devuda devudaa. i rate both the songs equally
2.sahana\ra - nice melody. the bend in the last line - nooraayram aandugal thaandiyum vaazhumithu - very cute, similar bend in GF - kammakkarayila song. thus, the beginning is too good but the stanza doesn't seem to grow up, i mean, there were no new tunes in that. one more doubt - that song(udit chinmayee version) had only one stanza, is it right or i d'loaded a wrong song? both udit and chinmayee does good job and udits pronounciation is GOOD and enjoyable compared to "kaathal pisaase paruvaayille"
the pathos version is completely nice. rare to hear such tune ina rajni movie
3.vaaji -not good but better. maybe improve on hearing
4.athiradi - song is surely nice but not more interested after some 10 times hearing. ARR's INSUT (Intendedly Non-Understanable Singing Technology) wasn't nice to hear, eventho it wasn't a spoiler.
5. The Boss- still didnt hear this....
6/ Oru koodai nilavoli \ soorya oli- was surprising to hear such tunes in rajni film, heared only one, so unable to comment but didnt attract as a good song, may be too good for a "koothu in theatre" song, for rajni fans
overall, from this 3 songs - We expect more from you ARR

SIVAJI TELUGU AUDIO REVIEW !!
Stylish, Contemporary and Unique
APK | April 09, 2007
Click here to listen to the songs
Rating: ***.75 (***** Very Good, **** Good, *** Fair, ** Average, * Bad)
The most awaited release of this year is out, at least for South India. And while the posters and publicity look out of this world-with both the lead pair gone blonde in bad wigs, the songs are good. All the hype and expectations may actually be harmful for the movie, but the music by AR Rehman will definitely ensure that the viewers have something they know will be a treat to watch. Good songs with Rajnikant's typical mannerisms and histrionics are sure to please admirers and cynics both.
Belleilakka With a pacy chorus, Belleilakka is really swift and the rhythm is great. A song reminiscing about the home in the village, it is nostalgic in tone. SP Balasubrahmanyam, Raihanah, Benny lend their voices for this wonderfully express-beat song while Bhuvana Chandra, Suddala Ashok Teja and Kulashekar have penned the lyrics. Guess what, this time too many cooks did not spoil the broth. The chorus is fantastic in this song, and SP Balu proves that he can match word and versatility like before. ***.75
Style Hip-hop, reggae and rap feature in this song. It sounds like an international hip-hop number, and if you don't listen carefully, even the lyrics sound like that. But wait, it's actually Telugu. 'Adirenu nee style..'-specially formulated for the king of characteristic style-Rajnikant. Love him, hate him, you can't ignore him-and the same with this number. It's straight out of the streets of NY, and it's possible it's set there too. The lyricist trio is the same, while Rags, Blaaze, Tanvi and Suresh Peters render this number. Gangsta' Rap, nothing less. ***.75
Vaaji Vaaji A duet sung by Harinath and Madhushree, this has a flowery, breezy feel to it. Nothing extraordinary, this kind of a number has been heard before-but that doesn't take away its feel-good value. The three lyricists and the chorus are it again-sweet and simple. ***.25
Adharanee The beginning of this sounds the same as the Mahesh Babu-starrer Nani's title number and MJ's Thriller can be compared to this song in terms of composition. Rehman and Sayonara (yeah, that's a name) lend their voices for this number. Everything about this song takes you by surprise-the composition, the unique voices and the lyrics. A superbly fun and stylish number, with English lyrics added for effect; one can understand the English lyrics. Stylish, that's the key-word. ***.5
Sahana Another duet, melodious and soft. It has that dreamy romantic touch to it, but with lots of instruments playing and an overactive chorus that seems to occur in many of Rehman's songs under Shankar's direction. Udit Narayan and Chinmayee suit the gentleness of this number perfectly. ***.75
The Boss Here it is, the title number. Style overload, and if anyone understands even a couple of the words, then please inform the others. But clarity notwithstanding, it just multiplies the oomph and glam quotient to this mega-production. The instruments used in this song are many, and the drums sound fabulous. ***.25
Last Word Unique compositions, out of the world voices, crazy lyrics and chorus-Shivaji stretches boundaries, in music and rhythm. Rehman can stand and take a bow, for all those critics who've said he's lost the magic touch. His touch still remains, and the freshness and individuality of this album proves that. All the numbers are fun to listen to, not to mention colorful and snazzy. For those who listen to a lot of Hip hop or even soft rock, this might not sound fresh, but to keep that in Telugu/Tamil without losing its flavor is wizardry-which is what Rehman does with Shivaji's music. The movie's verdict might be good or bad, but the msuc verdict is definitely rocking.

Instant Impact For Shivaji Songs
Tamilfilmratings.com [ 06 April 2007 ]
On expected lines, the audio figure of the Super Star's latest has well crossed the three lakh mark.
Such is the clamour that it has reached a point where many retail outlets are contemplating to open bookings. Serpentine queues are seen in Spencer Plaza, Halsa Mahal, Citi Centre, Shoppers Stop, Odyssey, Burma Bazar and T Nagar.
The three numbers doing solid rounds in many areas through loud speakers are: Sooriyano Chandrano, Oru Koodai Sunlight and Vaaji Vaaji Vaaji...
With around 500 prints the movie will have a worldwide release around middle of May. Concurrently, films scheduled for a May release have been advanced.

Music is an integral part of all of Shankar's films. A R Rahman has been his music director in all his films except Anniyan (Harris Jayaraj composed music for that film).
With Rahman making music for his film again, expectations were very high. And Rahman has not disappointed.

Anyway back to the topic now, haven't listened to the full songs yet. Yesterday I was browsing through the channels and in one channel they played three songs from Shivaji for a few minutes, (style, spb song and athiradi). athiradi as people mentioned has jam's beats, and spb song reminded devuda, and in style song god only knows what they are singing. I believe shivaji will flop at BO, lets wait and see.

Rajni movie to flop - Unless its scripted by Rajni ,i dont see a remote chance that it would flop !!
Im not saying this because of Rajni ,but Shankar is too a clever director to do something stupid - Plus the feel good audio should make the movie ..at minimum ..Super hit !! After the first two weeks ,it can become a blockbuster ..
Imagine this ..Vettaiyadu Vilayadu was sold for 16 1/2 crores ..Shivaji should have been sold for 26 crores atleast ( AVm tells that 8 lakh for AP and 3 for Kerala ..so atleast 15 for TN and Overseas which is bare minimum) ..So even before the movie releases ,they would have made a profit -assuming the movie took 25 crores to make !

Sivaji is definitely the best of Rajini - ARR Album, as far as soundtrack is concerned, Padaiyapa is THE best of Rajini-ARR movie as far as BGM is concerned...wattta movie watta movie... rahman appadiye adi pinniruparu BGM la in padaiyappa... the oonjal scene is one example of how to lift an ordinary scene with music alone......... of course Rajini's punch was also there... There are so many such instances in Padaiyappa film.... Neelambari intro, Neelambari's proposal to Rajini, Lakshmi asking for Soundarya in Neelambari's house and the unbeatable intro music for Rajini.......... i only hope Sivaji has better BGM than this :D

In cine industry nothing is concrete, anything can happen to a movie at the BO irrespective of directors/actors nowadays. Shankar had a disaster in Boys, and Rajini had flops to his share. So there is a chance for a disaster here too. From the stills I can say that Shankar has gone overboard, and i think there is a chance to get thundu at the BO. Not only me alone, there are couple of people in the Tamil Films section too feel the same.

Sam Daniel
Tuesday, April 10, 2007: (Chennai):
Rajinikanth's tunes have taken mobile phone users by storm in Tamil Nadu.
While the release of his film Sivaji has now been slated for May against the earlier April plan, ring tones and true tones of all seven songs of the movie have brought some cheer to his fans.
Just within three days of its launch, close to a lakh and fifty thousand downloads have been made and the figure just keeps rising by the hour.
The superstar is invading computers as well in the form of wall papers and screen savers. This venture alone has reportedly fetched the producers a whopping Rs 50 lakh and the promoters say the best is yet to come.
"If the movie has got some punchy dialogues, won't fans be happy? We are trying to come up with something like that," said C R Venkatesh, CEO, Galatta.Com.
While there is so much of hype around Rajinikanth's Sivaji, brand Rajini is turning into a trendsetter in mobile entertainment.

Sivaji or Spider-Man 3?
Decisions...Decisions.....
Sivaji of course,
Spider-Man is trilogy movie, nothing special, must be another predictable story, even if we missed first day show, we can watch spider man 4 next year :P
but sivaji is first movie Rajini with shankar, and we dont know wht in store for us. :D
But diff between this 2 movie after see the promo picture is,
- There is Black Spiderman in (Spiderman 3) which is surprising.
- And for Shivaji, we never saw Rajini dressed up so modernly in any movie, even some song give us clue how rajini will look like. Which is surprising too.

'சிவாஜி' ஆடியோ சக்கை போடுபோடுகிறது. இணையதளத்திலும் 'சிவாஜி' பாடல்களே அதிகம் டவுன்லோட் ஆகின்றன. ஆயா கடை முதல் ஸ்டார் ஹோட்டல் வரை எங்கும் எதிலும் எப்போதும் 'சிவாஜி' பாடல்களே ஒலிக்கின்றன.

Audio raises expectations on Sivaji
IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, April 11, 2007]
Ever since the audio launch of Sivaji, expectations are soaring high among the Rajini-fans. Now director Shankar is busy pre-occupied with A R Rahman to get the re-recording works for Sivaji completed.
Buzz is that the magnum opus movie produced by AVM Productions in their golden jubilee year would hit the screens on 17 May.
The re-recording works are on at London. Rahman completed the first half of re-recording for Sivaji at Paraguay while the second half is on at London.
The re-recording would match the world standards and the music composer is using the latest and innovative instruments to produce a different sound.
Meanwhile Shankar is also busy with getting ready the trailer for Sivaji.

Movie Sivaji-Audio review
Director Shankar
Producer AVM
Music A.R.Rahman
Cast Rajnikanth, Shriya
By Moviebuzz ( Sify )
A.R Rahman and Shankar has struck gold with Sivaji audio album. They have the right mix of peppy and innovative numbers along with the sounds and lyrics that are sure to please the mass audience of the superstar. Straight off the bat, it is the best ever album, of one of the greatest combination in Tamil Cinema- Rajnikanth and Rahman (R &R). They have worked together in Muthu, Padayappa and Baba, but here for the first time Shankar, the showman of Tamil cinema joins the team. The trio has come out with music that is far superior, to the earlier works of the duo.
Rahman, the maestro in private has always said that he combines best with Mani Ratnam and Shankar, because both of them are excellent visualisers . How the song comes on the screen is as important for them as the composition. Shankar believes that songs are one of the most important ingredients of commercial cinema and he makes no bones about it that he loves to make picture perfect song and dance scenes. He has a story board for his song picturisation, including a colour scheme, detailing of costumes and the dancers including the choreography and the lightings to be used!
Right from his Gentlemandays, he struck a rapport with Rahman, and always goes out of the studios to a quiet place and take days to compose the tunes. Later they sit with the lyric writer and make suitable changes to fit in with the mood of the film. For Sivaji it is obvious that Rajnikanth also played a crucial role, and must have contributed some inputs, which has gone a long way to make the songs energetic. Well Shankar’s contribution will be known once the song videos are shown in the channels, which will further popularize the numbers.
The album kicks off with Balleilakka….. rendered by SPB, Rahanah Benny and chorus. The song (6.06) is said to be the introductory number of Rajnikanth, which makes it very important. Traditionally it is supposed to give goose-bump inducing effect to the superstar’s fans, who will throw flowers and at times money on the screen. It has to be a fast number and normally SPB sings it.
Lyric writer Na. Muthukumar starts the song with the opening line-“ Sooriyano Chandirano. Yaar ivano sattena sollu” and goes on to hype the mass image of the superstar. The superstar as a champion of Tamils – “ Cauvery aarum kaikuthai arisiyum marandhupoguma”( Can we forget river Cauvery and the pounded rice). The hero can transform the state into another America- “ Annan vandhal Tamilnadu America agum. In the film Rajnikanth is coming back from US and is trying to change our system. In the song he also makes suggestions like Koovum cell phone-in nacharaippai anaithu, konjam silvandin ucharippai ketkom.. (switch off your nagging cell phones and listen to natures sounds). Rajni has never been spotted with a mobile in public!
On the whole the fast number with drum beats in the background is racy and vibrant, thanks to SPB. Like Mukesh was the voice of Raj Kapoor or Mohammed Rafi was to Shammi Kapoor and Kishore Kumar was to Rajesh Khanna, SPB is to Rajnikanth- Who can say so fast Sadugudu, Sadugudu…? This number is better than R&R’s earlier Oruvan, Oruvan Muthalali… with all its drum beats, as an introductory song.
This is followed by the racy track Style.. with a guitar base, sung by Rags, Tanvi, Suresh Peters and Blaaze. The song written by Pa. Vijay wants to establish the fact that Rajni is the original styleMannan of Tamil cinema. The song is western in feel, though it breaks into chaste Tamil to characterize the superstar. Some innovative lyrics, which the purist will yell, but children will make it their anthem- Oru koodai sunlight..
The third song in the album Sahana Saral Thoovuthu … is the pick of the lot, clearly vintage A.R Rahman and rendered in that catchy voice of Udit Narayanan and Chinmayi. It is a beautiful melody, written by Vairamuthu with the use of Rahman and Shankar’s favourite Indian instrument the Mridangam, with the maestro himself singing the dheem thana dheem thana bit. Purists may be critical of Udit’s Tamil pronunciation, but it adds to the final mix. Chinmayi is fabulous. (Why is she not given more chances?). This number is going to be the chartbuster and also the top ring tone in the coming days.
A sad version of Sahana… sung by Vijay Yesudas and Gomathy Sree is there in the CD, only a one-line bit is there in the cassette. What make the sad version so good is the flute and the humming of Vijay. This song may give Vijay the big ticket to playback singing. Next is the all important title song Vaaji, vaaji… sung by Hariharan and Madhusree. It is comparatively a slow melody written by Vairamuthu with a rhythmic beat, that picks up as the number progresses.
The mood and the music changes drastically in the next number, by one of Rahman’s favourites Blaaze, Naresh Iyer and Raqueeb Alam with The Boss a loud rap number. This we are sure would be a sort of theme music of the film, with deft camera movement as we follow the superstar. Lyrics written by Na. Muthukumar are inane like Sachin adicha sixer, Sivaji adicha puncher daanada !! Obviously it is another song to hype the superstar’s larger than- life image.
Finally the last song in the album is Athiradee sung by the maestro and Sayanora. The grand old man of Tamil songs Vaali is playing to the galleries. Last time in Chandramukhi Vaali wrote what many people thought was the most popular number in the movie, which had many populist lines. So here he has made it even more funky with Thee, thee, jagajyothee, jagajyothee. Billa, Ranga, Baasha dhan ivan pistol pesum …, giving our superstar a macho image, to attract the youth audience. Vaali also tries rhyming ‘castro’ with ‘maestro’. This will be a hot dance number in the discos. Rahman has done a R.D Burman (he is a big fan of Panchim da) style rendition, with some voice modulation.
To sum it up Sivaji is one of the best albums of A.R Rahman- Shankar combination, which is sure to be lapped up by the superstar’s fans.
Verdict- R O C K I N G ![/tscii:91dfb0c39b]

Background score for 'Sivaji' mixed in London!
- 11.04.2007
'Sivaji' audio sales is going great guns. On the Internet also, 'Sivaji' songs are the most downloaded. 'Sivaji' songs are blaring out from the corner shop to the star hotels.
Shankar has seen to it that 'Sivaji' should be the most excellent in Tamil films as far as cinematography, stunts, art, editing and songs are concerned. So, could the background score be far behind? So Shankar is after AR Rehman to create waves with the background music too.
Rehman has been getting his music in Chennai, Mumbai and so on. Now, work is on to get the music together in London where facilities are most favorable. Moreover, as far as his music work is concerned, AR Rehman does his important work in London.
'Sivaji' re-recording has happened in Paraguay also. As Rehman is working on his music in various places around the world, expectations are high.
If the background score is also released as a CD, maybe the audio sales will create another record.

Shankar opens up on songs of Sivaji
There is an assortment of conjectures which are doing brisk business in the media trying to outline the story of Sivaji. But director Shankar asserts that the actual film would be way ahead and beyond all conceivable imaginations. In an interview to a weekly,he states, "People suspect that I have used graphics techniques while filming the song 'sahara pookkal poothado'. But on the contrary, we have erected sets made of glass completely. As it is, it is difficult to shoot in a set but it is even more challenging to shoot in an ambience filled with glass as there is a lot of perceivable reflection which needed to be avoided. But thankfully, the results are satisfactory."
While talking about the other song vaaji vaaji, Shankar says that a grand palace was erected to shoot this number. Even the minutest and intricate details of a palace has been taken into consideration while erecting this citadel and Shankar adds with pride that such sets have never been created in the history of Indian cinema before. He is confident that viewers will be astounded by the grandiose of the sequence.

Shriya goes ga-ga on `Sivaji` audio
By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 14 April , 2007, 10:42
Shriya Saran cannot stopping talking about the songs in Sivaji. Says Shriya, who was shooting a song with Vijay in Karaikudi for Azhagiya Tamil Magan (ATM) : “I’m a big Rahman fan, and when I heard the Sivaji songs for the first time at the shoot I just went crazy about them. Believe me, the way Shankar Sir has shot the songs, along with Rajni Sir’s dance movements, they are sure to be rocking.?P> Shriya says that one of the high points of her career will be that she danced with the superstar to the tune of A.R Rahman whom she calls “the Mozart of Indian film music? She features in five out of the six songs in the film. Says Shriya: “I’m there in all the songs, except Ballelika?, the introductory song.?P> When asked about her favourite song in the album, Shriya says: “I like all the songs and the way they are picturised. I’m sure that the songs will become bigger once the film releases and the channels popularize them. If you were to ask me my favourite song it is Vaaji, Vaaji, , the title song.?Shriya refused to talk further on the songs, as she feels the film and its presentation will talk for itself.
Ever since the shoot, she has been humming the Sivaji songs. Now that the album is out, she has all the songs on her ipod, and hears it during the breaks.

Q) You had worked with ARR in all the films upto Boys. Then u did Anniyan in between which was not of ARR. Did ARR asked anything about it when doing music for Shivaji?
A) ARR will never ask such kind of question .He is a very sweet person. Instead whenever he gets a music in between his other compositions he will preserve the same for me and will present to me. He is well aware of which is the music that I like.
