Shriya goes ga-ga on `Sivaji` audio
Shriya Saran cannot stopping talking about the songs in Sivaji. Says Shriya, who was shooting a song with Vijay in Karaikudi for Azhagiya Tamil Magan (ATM) : "I'm a big Rahman fan and when I heard the Sivaji songs for the first time at the shoot I just went crazy about them. Believe me, the way Shankar Sir has shot the songs, along with Rajni Sir's dance movements, they are sure to be rocking."
Shriya says that one of the high points of her career will be that she danced with the superstar to the tune of A.R Rahman whom she calls "the Mozart of Indian film music". She features in five out of the six songs in the film. Says Shriya: "I'm there in all the songs, except Ballelika…., the introductory song."
When asked about her favourite song in the album, Shriya says: "I like all the songs and the way they are picturised. I'm sure that the songs will become bigger once the film releases and the channels popularize them. If you were to ask me my favourite song it is Vaaji, Vaaji, , the title song." Shriya refused to talk further on the songs, as she feels the film and its presentation will talk for itself.
Ever since the shoot, she has been humming the Sivaji songs. Now that the album is out, she has all the songs on her ipod, and hears it during her breaks.

ALL the songs of Sivaji ROCK! - I have come to this conclucsion after quite a few listens!
On first listening people may think that the songs aren't up to scratch...but if u listen to them a few more times...you'll love them forever! Best Rajini movie songs in years. :2thumbsup:
My vote for best song went to...(after lots and lots of thought, and changes of mind)....SAHANA (Udit N version). I guess im just in a bit of a melodic lovey dovey mood! I think Udit sings this song BEAUTIFULLY...I can't comment on his pronounciation as i'm no thamil expert. :tongueout:
AWWWWWW>>>>>I REALLY HOPE THE MOVIE ISNT POSTPONED ANY FURTHER!!!! IT WAS BAD ENUF MOVING IT FOR APRIL!!!! GRRRR......

Sivaji Shankar Interview English Transcript
>
>
>
> Host: Happy New Year greetings to all of our Sun TV viewers across
the globe and with regards to those viewers spanning the globe, there
seems to be only one thing they are endlessly chatting about nowadays
and the reason behind that is Director Shankar and now we are going to
meet him, come on..! (Shooting Clips Shown)
>
>
>
> Host: How have you made the whole of Tamil Nadu to talk ceaselessly
Sir?
>
>
>
> Shankar: (Laughs) We are just doing our job and that job has
transcended beyond even ourselves. (Laughs)
>
>
>
> Host: And now after the release of the Sivaji songs, the
anticipation has grown even more?
>
>
>
> Shankar: Yes.
>
>
>
> Host: Now even when you were taking the Mudhalvan movie, it seemed
that the both of you (Shankar & Rajni) were going to come together for
a film, and then why the gap in between and now why has it finally
materialized in Sivaji?
>
>
>
> Shankar: We have met and spoken on numerous occasions, but I think
this is the right time; everything has come together correctly, the
script.umm.just everything, all things have fallen into place and
because of that we started the movie. (Shooting Clips Shown)
>
>
>
> Host: Sir, do you typically get the story ready and then chose the
appropriate lead star for it - what is your system for this?
>
>
>
> Shankar: Generally, we get the story ready and choose a star who is
more apt and suiting for that role. In all of my stories, such as
Kadhalan, Jeans and other such lighter love movies, you can see a
certain super heroism, larger than life.you can see those types of
characters; those have become super hero driven stories. If you take
any of those, whether Rajni Sir had starred or whether Kamal Sir had
starred, they would have been excellent. So that is the question of
whether we begin with an artist or whether we begin with a story.but
in terms of this movie (Sivaji), I was thinking about Rajni Sir when I
came up with this story. (Shooting Clips Shown)
>
>
>
> Host: So from the beginning you had this story in mind for him?
>
>
>
> Shankar: Yea, this story came about with him in mind.
>
>
>
> Host: Then, when you make a movie with Rajni and because he is a
Superstar, did you feel a lot of pressure? Such as: should there be a
certain kind of buildup? Did you have any pressure since you knew you
were creating a story for a Superstar?
>
>
>
> Shankar: There was both pressure and jolliness. Because there are
certain expectations of him in movies, you have to satisfy those
requirements. And another thing, because he is there, there are
certain advantages, for instance you cannot take on certain issues
with some other heroes...so because of that, there are no limits to my
creative imagination, but if I placed those same issues on all artists
it just would not work out, so when I approach these issues with him
there it is be quite interesting. for example, in the "Athiradee" song,
you can witness what I'm saying, you cannot do all of those things we
have done in the song with any other hero.so there are many plus
points like that, but of course there are pressures as well, for
instance you cannot change him too much, but then again, people also
expect to see some change in my movies.so essentially, you have to
give and not give.have to reach a certain balance, so it was both
enjoyable and demanding, but finally, I think have solved those
issues. (Shooting Clips Shown)
>
>
>
> Host: You are known as being a super director and if we take all of
your past movies, you can clearly see a sort of Shankar stamp on all
of them and in the same way, we can clearly distinguish a Rajni movie
from other films, so if we look at it that way and now that the both
of you are collaborating together - this Sivaji movie is whose movie?
>
>
>
> Shankar: They say this is a "Ra-Shankar- jni" formula. (Laughs) No,
but seriously, for those viewers who are coming expecting a Rajni
movie, they will see Rajni Sir's formula and for those coming to see a
Shankar movie, they will see Shankar's formula and on top of that, for
those fans who are coming to see what a combination of the two would
be, even they will be fulfilled, so I have maintained that balance
appropriately. (Shooting Clips Shown)
>
>
>
> Host: Sir, now in this movie from all the things we have seen,
Rajni Sir looks very youthful, how did you accomplish this?
>
>
>
> Shankar: For his character in this movie, we thought a lot about
his get-ups and what would look good and like I said before, we cannot
change Rajni Sir too much since when people think of Rajni Sir, a
certain image registers in their minds, so we cannot change him too
much, but we have to bring a tiny bit of change and so we thought
about ways to make him look pleasing and we went about gathering
stills from his previous movies which we thought would be apt for the
character he plays in Sivaji and then we short listed and short listed
until we came up with get-ups which perfectly fit his role in the
movie. And then we went about procuring the wigs and make-up
necessary to reproducing the selected get-ups and we did numerous
fittings and only at the last minute did we get the type of wigs and
looks we were aiming for.for the village look we used the Muratui
Kaalai get-up and for the city look we used the Billa get-up.
>
>
>
> Host: Now when you were doing all of this research were you and
your team the only ones doing it or was he (Rajni) also involved?
>
>
>
> Shankar: No he turned over the responsibility to me after hearing
what I had to say about what would look good for the movie.after
seeing the stills and wigs we came up with and seeing that it was all
correct, he was quite happy.
>
>
>
> Host: As you were working on this film, did you ever feel at any
moment any regrets about not having worked with him before in the past?
>
>
>
> Shankar: No, nothing like that.I mean everyone who has worked with
him always feel like working with him again and also they regret not
working with him in the past, those thoughts are always there.because
Rajni Sir is even more cooperative than a new face in the industry for
comparison, he is so flexible, he is so disciplined, he is so
sincere.I'm not just saying that because everyone always says that,
but as I have been working with him in the past year, I have seen it
personally. There are many things to be learnt from him by all the
new up and coming artists.I have not seen any person who has dedicated
everything to cinema with total sincerity, dedication, flexibility and
humility like him. So he really really is a great artist. (Shooting
Clips Shown)
>
>
>
> Host: Now as you have stated how Rajni has dedicated himself to
cinema, in the same vein you can say Kamal has also done the same and
you have worked with him before (in Indian).so after working with two
artists considered to be two living legends of Tamil cinema, what are
your experiences?
>
>
>
> Shankar: There are many similarities between the two.like I said
sincerity.they both sincerely have dedicated themselves to cinema, the
discipline.the notion that cinema is important and it should turn out
well. So in these issues, they both have many parallels. For
instance, if you take Kamal Sir, when I'm reading the script to him,
he would be casually glancing at me, observing how I read, watching
how I modulate the dialogues and he would be reading as I went along
as well; after reading it through he would say 'ok' and leave. Then
he would discuss the script, make any amendments and then when the
time for the shooting arrives, he would deliver whatever I expected of
him and more often than not, he would exceed my own expectations. So
in the same way when you look at Rajni Sir, when I'm reading a scene
he would be watching intently as how I'm reading it and then he would
leave when I'm finished. And when the time for shooting arrives he
would fulfill and exceed my own expectations tremendously by adding
his own uniqueness, likewise Kamal Sir.
>
>
>
> Host: So Sir, you were discussing Kamal and Rajni and how they
always got the performance right after reading through the scenes with
them, but would it not be better if you acted it out for them?
>
>
>
> Shankar: No, I mean as I'm reading the scene they understand what
I'm asking for in terms of modulation and since I read the complete
script to them thoroughly beforehand, they have already absorbed the
character they are playing. So as we go through the scenes, they
fully comprehend what my expectations are.95% of the time they get it
right and in the remaining 5%, if their performance does not fit with
my own vision for the particular scene, then I will explain it to them
and they will do it the way I told them to, so there is not an issue
there.
>
>
>
> Host: But there is also the supporting cast and how will you
demonstrate to them what your expectations are in terms of acting?
>
>
>
> Shankar: First I will read the scene to them and will ask them to
perform it for me.and as they are acting it out, if they
extemporaneously come up with something new and if it is good, I will
keep it and if I'm not satisfied with what they do, then I will
perform it for them and they will do it.
>
>
>
> Host: I ask all of this because didn't you originally come into the
industry wishing to act and do you still have any desires like that?
>
>
>
> Shankar: Hey I have acted in Sivaji itself (Laughs), I only said
that for comedy's sake, but I'm there only for one shot in the
"Balleilakka" song, so don't get too scared about my acting in the
movie. (Laughs) So it was just simply a casual appearance I did for
the fun of it.
>
>
>
> Host: So no real plans to act?
>
>
>
> Shankar: No no, because the director Shankar is more attuned and
principled to the integrity of the script than the actor Shankar, so
during casting time for example, director Shankar is quite strict in
choosing the best and most appropriate people to play the roles and so
when you look at it that way, director Shankar does not easily allow
actor Shankar to perform (Laughs).he would say to actor Shankar that
he is a miscast and to go away. (Laughs) (Shooting Clips Shown)
>
>
>
> Host: When you are looking at it, between the release of Boys and
Anniyan there was a gap and after it there was another gap and now you
have once again reunited with A.R. Rahman for Sivaji, so how did this
combination work out?
>
>
>
> Shankar: This is not new to us; we have a very good relationship as
we have been working together for a long time since 1993.our
relationship is not purely an occupational relationship as we work
together as good friends.
>
>
>
> Host: Did he not ask you why you did not choose him for Anniyan?
>
>
>
> Shankar: No, he would not ask something like that at all.he is
really a sweet person.since we have collaborated together on many
projects in the past, he knows what kind of tastes I have and look
for, so for example, when he is composing songs for other movies
besides mine, if he comes across a tune which he knows I would like,
he would put that aside for me.if I hear a song on an audio cd he has
composed for a movie and when I convey to him my fondness for it, he
would teasingly tell me he knew in the back of his mind that I
would.so in that way, we have a certain understanding. Even if you
take this movie Sivaji for example, the "Style" song was something he
spontaneously came up with and he immediately saved it for me and once
he showed it to me, I approved of it instantly. (Shooting Clips Shown)
>
>
>
> Host: Sir, when the name Rajni is merely mentioned, even little
children know that style is synonymous with it, so now you have even
included a song titled "Style", so what are the new styles you have
introduced there?
>
>
>
> Shankar: In this movie, many people will be expecting a lot from
Rajni Sir, his styles, etc. So we have come up with many new styles
and he has done it and they all have come out very well.it will be
quite a treat for the fans of Rajni Sir.we have also used his usual
styles in various different ways, so there will be no dearth of style
in this movie. (Laughs) You see, you have gotten the basic concept
itself, where there is Rajni, there is style.so when we say it, you
know, the dressing styles, the hair styles, the sunglass styles.even
backdrop styles and taking styles, just in all the different areas
when we approach this movie within the confines of style itself as a
premise, you will clearly see a difference in a positive way. For
instance, the backgrounds and locations are stylish, so if you look at
the shootings from Spain, you will see different things.
>
>
>
> Host: Which places have you traveled for this movie?
>
>
>
> Shankar: We went to Spain, Pune, Hyderabad.
>
>
>
> Host: So now that director Shankar, Superstar Rajnikanth and music
director A.R. Rahman have combined together for a movie, many people
are saying one thing or another about the movie's story, etc., so now
we ask you directly what the real secret behind Sivaji is?
>
>
>
> Shankar: Actually this is a story about someone who aspires to do
something good and the difficulties encountered when trying to do
so.you see, whenever someone tries to do something good, no one will
come to help that person, but there will always be many people trying
to block it, ruin it or to give trouble. Some people even drop the
idea of doing something good and go back to their own lives because of
the obstacles and barriers they have to face by saying something along
the lines of 'do I really need to go through all of these unnecessary
problems?'. But the essence of this story is about someone who above
all odds, perseveres against all of these adversities and is
victorious in his endeavors. If you take a look at the first half of
the movie, it will flow with much comedy and lighter situations and
the story will also flow along the same track and if you look at the
second half, it is just pure unexpected surprises.so the first half
will have a different taste and the second will have another. What
else can I tell you besides this? (Laughs)
>
>
>
> Host: Sir you can even tell us what the first scene is and we will
gladly listen.
>
>
>
> Shankar: Oh sure I will definitely tell you the story, starting
from scene number one.that is, the day after the release of the movie.
(Laughs)
>
>
>
> Host: Sir, in all of your movies there is always some message
within the story; do you think those messages are reaching the people?
>
>
>
> Shankar: Definitely.before when I was starting out in the beginning
I did not have much faith whether the message I was trying to
articulate through my movies reached the audience.... you know, they
would watch the movie and then forget about it.but after Indian for
example, I felt a certain awareness about accepting bribes in the
society, after Mudhalvan, just like how the typewriter was utilized in
the movie, certain people, such as collectors and government officials
for example, do the same thing by giving suspensions and taking
immediate action on the spot by bringing a typewriter with them.so
after reading these things in newspapers and periodicals, a belief
that you can make a difference through the medium of cinema was
instilled in me. After Anniyan, I have also seen more people adhering
to the traffic rules- such as stopping at the line at a yellow signal,
staying behind the yellow line at a stop, not spitting in public,
etc., many people have called me and told me so.even when I look at my
own road, I can witness better traffic discipline.so whether
substantial change occurs or not, I can still feel a certain
consciousness about those messages.
>
>
>
> Host: Is there a message within Sivaji also?
>
>
>
> Shankar: Certainly, we have incorporated a good message in this
movie as well.you see, our country's economy is currently flourishing
and growing.if you take a look at the currency market, the Indian
rupee was valued at 47 rupees to 1 American dollar, but now the rate
is 43 to 1...so in this movie, what we are trying to say is that if
the wealth our economic engine creates goes to the right places, then
we can make many beneficial changes to our country.so it is a very
good message we convey in the movie and I'm confident it will work
out. (Shooting Clips Shown)
>
>
>
> Host: Sir, when you say the name Rajni, there will be some sort of
punch dialogue that can go along with it; he has always used them in
his movies.are there any punch dialogues in Sivaji?
>
>
>
> Shankar: For example, 'Sachin adicha sixer thaanda, Sivaji adicha
puncture thaanda, Singam kooda jujubi thaanda, Sivaji vaayil jilebi
thaanda', so there will be punch dialogues, but they will be in the
songs.it will be a theme type, so there will be punch dialogues in the
movie; we just have changed it a bit, it will be different, but when
you watch the movie you will see how it fits.
>
>
>
> Host: You just were talking about "Sivaji vaayil jilebi thaana' and
so it leads to this question, normally Rajni is known for his
cigarette smoking and gimmickry on screen, but now because he does not
do that, what has he done in this movie?
>
>
>
> Shankar: Watch the movie and you will see (Laughs).if I tell you
now the thrill will be gone. (Shooting Clips Shown)
>
>
>
> Host: Now finally to all of those viewers across the globe, what do
you wish to say?
>
>
>
> Shankar: Happy Tamil New Years. One request I have for all of you
is that you watch Sivaji and other movies in the theaters and not on
pirated discs.many people have put their best efforts and talents as
well as invest much money in creating these movies and so it would be
wrong to waste that.that is the only thing I ask of you. Thank you.

[tscii:8a6e4167d7]Sivaji will certainly rock the screens
IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, April 18, 2007]
With just a few days left for Rajinikanth's Sivaji (tentatively planned for 17 May), the hype and expectations are touching all-time high for the movie.
Director Shankar is confident that Sivaji would be a movie to cherish in Indian film industry. One of the costliest movies to have been made in Indian screen, Sivaji has brought together the likes of AVM, Rajinikanth, Shankar and A R Rahman.
According to Shankar, “It is a movie that would certainly satisfy Rajini-fans. A typical Rajinikanth film, the movie would be a treat for them”.
“The highlight of the movie is that for the first time, we have shot a song sequence (Shana) in huge sets put up on glass. It was a challenging task to shoot the song since the lights would be reflected on the glass. All credit to cinematographer K V Anand for achieving the impossible.”
In a nutshell, the movie is about a man, who wants to do good for the society. The hurdles that he comes across in accomplishing his mission. But is inter spread with gaiety, grandeur and splendor.

Despite the excellent music reviews, Shankar received for Anniyan with Harris Jayaraj,[111] AVM Productions and Rajinikanth demanded that India's top music director should be involved in the project, so A. R. Rahman was signed up as music director for Sivaji. Early, on speculations were high that the songs would be remarkable as A. R. Rahman was paid two Indian Crores for the project, making him the highest paid Indian music director.[112]

TN crazy about Sivaji
The entire state of Tamil Nadu has been going crazy following the audio release of the Rajnikant-starrer Sivaji. Many were seen copying the hairstyle of the superstar after some pictures of the film was out while others spent their own money on CDs and cassettes and were generous enough to allow others to borrow them without any charge. Then there were some who sold the CDs in the black market for Rs.250. Nearly 80,000 CDs were sold out on the second day of the audio release, and there was a request for another one lakh CDs to meet the increasing demand. According to a source at the AVM, its audio distribution wing had supplied nearly five lakhs audio CDs and cassettes all over South India with an amazing response in Mumbai as well. More than 38000 CDs were sold in Kerala alone. It is for the very first time that an audio in a different language has sold in the state in such a huge number.
Incidentaly, there were reports of long queues outside shops waiting to purchase the audio of Sivaji. One man came with a mini CD player, listened to the songs outside the shop itself and even distributed sweets all around.
Meanwhile the digital versions of the seven songs of Sivaji are now available on more than 124 websites on the internet. They were supposedly leaked a few days before the formal audio launch.
In any case, Rajnikant has brought in a fresh lease of life to the audio market with his Sivaji making him the real superstar in the country!

An interesting fact about THE BOSS-Theme
First a fight sequence was shot with Peter hayne donning the role of Rajinikanth it seems. Then it was edited and was shown to ARR. He composed a song/bit to suit that fight. Then finally Rajini acted for the same.

This is soley my opinion here but don't you think the film's getting more hype than usual. I'm not saying I hate Rajni or any of his films for that matter NOR am I saying it will flop, but the music by Rahman saab isn't "oho" worthy.
I'll give you Balelilakka and Sahara (Vijay Yesudas was jynxed for Udit :( ) But the rest of the songs are ...tad below the mark. As an ARR fan for a long time, this isn't his tamil best to be very honest. Style has no essence, Sunlight is a pass muster for a rap song that has mumbling lyrics, same goes for ARR's part in Athiradee. He says something but Chinmayee is the translator. Bottom line: He's made his money here, but he can't pull a Gentleman or Roja. Vaaji is...okay.
Every tamil music site I go to, there's biased reviews of his music in his favor. Yet, when Jeyaraj comes out with beautiful music like the latest Unnale x2 and Vettaiyaadu/Pachaikilli they slam him. To be frank, not more than 2 tracks are hummable, they are fast-forward/skip-worthy.
And this coming from Director Shankar, who's always a detailed music checker with buddy ARR. Guess he got stressed over his script more than the music and just nodded to ARR's tunes.
Again, before anyone of you bash me for saying that oh you're wrong, the songs are a hit, or like some user who makes counting posts so that when the film is declared blockbuster, he'll laugh his ass off with me, I'm just saying my honest opinion give or take. Take it as a grain of salt. Thanks.

First of all I loved the songs of Unnale Unnale too, but HJs songs are hummable for one reason:
They are RECYCLED melodies, they have the "iv heard that somewhere before" feel. Case in point: June Pona - contains lots of lifted bits from Blue - All Rise (an english song) e.g. in da song when it goes “anbe en anbe” (the rapping bit).
I think the reason you dont like most of Sivajis songs is because they are so fresh and new. Innovation - this is what ARR does best! Trust me by the time the movie is released you’ll love all the songs and eat your words!
HJ is good (better than YSR! ), and yes his tunes are very very hummable, but he lacks orginality. HJ and YSR's (more YSR) music is like hearing ARR's earlier works.
"Shankar just nodded to ARRs tunes" :rotfl2:
He probly "just nodded" to his songs because thats how much FAITH & CONFIDENCE Shankar has in ARR!

Hope you dont take that to your advatange nickraman. You said that HJ deserves praises but he doesnt. Infact he does but shouldnt. How can one deserve credits for copy and pasting ARR's previous songs and english tunes. Best example is All Rise, I was seriously shocked. Everything is copied, if not copied, inspired to the point that it can be said its copied. Another example, is partha muthal naale. This was one of my favourite melodies of that year until i heard the christian song it was copied from. After all this you still dont think he deserves what is been given to him? Infact in my opinion he should be lucky that he is still in the industry. Another example is the song in majnu copied from ARR's ad for leo coffee. I admit he is a genius (HJ) but not in MAKING music but rather COPYING it. He makes it so subtle that its hard to figure out that he copied, this doesnt take anything away from the fact that he does copy tho. Plagiarism is a bad way to practice any art. Be it english essay, art, music, or even dance. Arts are supposed to evolved, innovated, invented not copied. Take it easy! Enjoy Sivaji! or Ux2 if you wanna hear All Rise with tamil lyrics.

I have come to point to forgive Udit. I love the Sahara song for its sheer melody, in my opinion, after the buzz subsides, like the movie hits 100 days or whatever, then people will surely start liking Sahara and will get more play on radios, tv or sugamana raagangal section in TV.
Nice change.... though I have to listen to Athiradee coz of my son, ne where I go in the car or @ home or even friends place, he wants that song played over and over again, I was so so tired of paying attention to repeat that song for my son, i made a CD only with Athiradee 14 times so he can listen all day (dont ask me why i dont have a remote).

You cannot be like this in a forum, people have their right to tell if they like it or not (that is a meaning of forum, expressing ones opinion). As always a criticizing comment is good, it is how people take either constructively or destructively. If we eliminate criticizers, there would be no fun and healthiness in anything.
Again, what is typical Tamil song? one with good lyrics, nice gramia flavour?, using known tamil instruments like urimi, thavil etc?
If you condemn people for liking genre used to enhance tamil flavour, sorry, you should not be proud of it.
thineshan54321
26th April 2007, 01:31 AM
i think he is referring to the many gaana songs that sound EXACTLY the same and those remixes. I dont have a problem with gaana. but i do have a problem with remixes and i especially have a problem when MD get fame for remixes. How can they? they didnt make the music, if anything only the lyricist should be appreicated for remixes not MDs. recent example, karupaana kaiyaala something song, a remix of a devotional song. We have to value our religion/custom. A devotional song must not be condemned like that!
MusicIsLife
26th April 2007, 02:20 AM
thineshan,
I am talking about Gaana per se, Tamil music has been produced good all these years, typical may not be the right word, but probably something along the lines of "current trend of remixes in tamil movies" or something like that. btw all rap albums sound the same, there is some variations, but the defacto standard is applied. so Gaana sounding the same is no suprise, it is a genre and should be appreciated for it.
Let us not digress this too much. hope you understand what I am trying to tell.

Guys,
I am a big fan of ARR and have listened to Sivaji songs innumerable times.
I am being objective and here is my assessment:
* Loved two songs - Bailelakka and Sahaana
I think Bailelakka is probably the best intro song for Rajini.
Sahaana is very good but would not come in the top 10 ARR songs.
The rest are very ordinary including Aitheree. I really do not see anything special in the rest of the songs.
Overall, a very average album. I think considering the high standards set by ARR-Shankar combo, this effort is way too short.
ARR has disappointed and I am surprised, Shankar okayed these songs.

I take it that this is your first post. Welcome to the group. You have started your hubbing journey with an appreciative first post --> "The rest are very ordinary including Aitheree. I really do not see anything special in the rest of the songs."
Hope you will see something special in the album. Maybe we will help you see that special thing that you cant see yet.
Good luck to you. Hope you enjoy it here.

Sunnyg, I can understand what you are saying. The songs in Rajini films are always going to have a limited scope. There's an intro song, hero glorification, one or two romantic songs, not much besides that. Within those parameters, Shankar's influence has infused some hipness and modernity into the music, and hopefully into the film. Its not one of my favorite Shankar-ARR albums, but considering that its a Rajini film Sivaji is a very good album.
Two main complaints about the album:
Vaaji Vaaji- starts off beautifully, but settles into the usual dholak beats. Even Hariharan sounds uncomfortable here.
Sahana- Beautiful composition and female singing, but Udit Narayan's pronunciation is horrible. At times I can't even understand what he is saying. That must be why the CD comes with a lyric book :)
Other than that the songs are really hip and rocking. I particularly love Style, which is a highly unusual song. I wonder how Lawrence has choreographed this, with such erratic beats. I'm sure he has done well.

When it's ONLY a ARR+Shankar album, ARR is expected to give 50% effort and Shankar anotehr 50%...
But when it's Rajni+ARR+Shankar, Rajni will deliver 50% on his own. ARR will add another 25% and Shankar 25%.
Keep it to simple business logic, when the product can sell on its own, why spend so much on marketing it? Agree?

lemme give u a positive points in ur complaints against the album...[my opinion ofcource...]
Vaaji Vaaji.... though its the typical dolak beats... the tune was very catchy...and knowing the sets r like in the palace... think it suits the mood... Hariharan sounds awesome! esp when he goes " PunnagaiyOO...Movval Movval..." and Madhushre is at her best, in her pronounsation & her renderation... it doesnt have that 'hindi singer singging tamil song' feel... i loved the way she does " Vaaji Vaaji Vaaji.... Yen Jeevan nee Sivaji..." and "Wahji Wahji Wahji..." .. in this song,if u ask me... Rahman has fully given the responsibilty to Shankar to make the song sounds good esp to many people ... when other tracks clearly showed its power on the listenin section itself...
Sahana... to tell u the truth...im sure MANY will agree with me... in his entire history in Tamil songs... this is his BEST song ...wut i mean was his pronounsation ....he never did sounded better & tamilish in any of his songs b4.... i could understood him on the 1st listenin itself... without the help of lyrics....sad we Malaysian wasnt gifted with the help of the lyrics book...
when i 1st heard Sunlight song... that line " Appo naan veccha karupay..." i taut it was " Appo naam PICCHA kaaRempit "
rempit is the motorist who haves races in KL city in late nites here in malaysia..... i taut he said he was a begger rempit :P :lol2:...
i know it sounds illogical, but yea...when i 1st heard the song,it sounded like that :P ... and after checking the lyrics online, now i know its VECCHA karupay " :P
The Boss lyrics is just absurd " Podavai Vaangi Kattikodha " and " Punche vaccha Idly thanda "... such lyrics for a high class movie Sivaji ???

nope united.... its like this :
ARRahman = 100 %
Shankar = 100%
Rajini = 100%
everyone expect the TOP MOST BEST from each of them when they all unite together.... ARRahman has given 150 % with the audio...its proven with the audio that has created more hype for the film.... now its up to Shankar & Rajini :)

If you condemn people for liking genre used to enhance tamil flavour, sorry, you should not be proud of it.

hmmmm, I felt like what I have to say. Why can't people accept that the songs
from the movie are ROCKIN......
If you guys listen the song, "Style", it is a trendstter ..not the same typical
tamil music....
What I mean by "typical song" is: look at some of the output for this year, most of them
are recycled ....
Examples:
· Urchagam
· Naan Avanillai
· Nee Naan Nila
· Madurai Veeran
· Karupasamy Kuthagaithaara...
· Mayakkannadi
· Ninaithu Ninaithu Parthen
· Thiru Ranga
· Cinemakkaran
· Vettai Arambham
· Oru Oorla
· Ninaithalae
· Koodal Nagar
· Muni
· Kannum Kannum
· Pori
· Oru Ponnu Oru Paiyan
· Maanavan
· Thamirabarani
· Thoovaanam
· Aalwar
· Rendu
· Sivappathikaram
· Thiruvilayadal Aarambam
· "E"
· Vattaram
· Em Mahan
· Thimiru
· Nenjil Jil Jil ..the list keep going
The only once..I like this year are: Chennai 600028, Mozhie and some other once...it's very
rare to see good songs these days....not saying there are not any...
SivaJi stands above any of these or for the last 3 years or so....
the songs are very different and *appeals to everyone around the world...not
just for India (South) ....the main point of the whole movie is to have the International
FEEL and the songs alone have proved that....Since I live in Canada, I have many
international friends...Just to see how the song's level are; I picked some of my friends
from variuous countries: Canada, America, Japan, China, India (NORTH ),
Friends from Canada and America really like three songs: Balleilakka and Style and Athirade
Japan: Style and Athirade
China: Sahaanaa
India(North): Style and Vaaji vaaji vaa ....
Some of my North Indian friends, are waiting for the movie as well...
They already know that SS is the #2 highest paid actor next to Jackie Chan...but they
never seen him on movies.....
I showed them some of the NDTV interview and how people are going GA GA over
the movie songs and the movie.....and now they are into it to BIG TIME.....
They keep asking me when the movie is going to release ... :)
Also, I am not KAMAL HATER EITHER.....
Michel Madhan Kama Rajan....Kadhal Kahdhal (watched it more then 30 times 8-) ), Thanali...Pancha ....
Pumbal K Sum....are some of mine all time fav ... AND ohh yeah WATING big time for the release of DASA... 8-)

Deva was awesome, he did batsha and thats probably the best Rajini movie according to his HC fans. No one can deny that and even I enjoyed batsha 8-)
ARR had tremendous pressure, I mean Rajini is the numero uno in tamil films industry and he had to satiate his fanbase and IMO he has done perfect justice to that in muthu, padayappA and sivaji. No complaints on him at all 8-)

[tscii:ecb8f3496d]Sayanora gathers applause
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, April 28, 2007]
As the audio of Sivaji has become a rage in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, one of the singers is jumping with Joy in her home town in Kerala.
The one family in Kerala that has personal reasons to celebrate this success- is Sayonara’s. The Singer from Kerala had sung a song in the album that too the opening numbers with A R Rahman.
For this song, starting Adiradi Kaadhal Machcham..., Sayonara had modulated her voice more like Shakira.
After recording the Tamil version, the music director tried to bring someone else to sing the song in it Telugu version, but very soon he realized that the voice wasn't as good as Sayonara's.
Eventually, she sang the song in Telugu too. Now both the songs are reigning the charts.
Sayanora has earlier worked with A R Rahman in many projects. She was in the lead of Rahman's Bosnian album, and also worked as a chorus singer in Manirathnam's Guru. Then she sung songs for Sillunu Oru Kadhal, its Telugu version, and a yet-to-be released Hindi film 'Jane Kyon'.
As she has become a regular with Rahman, She will join him, when he tours the US and Canada this summer for music shows.
Sayanora debuted into filmdom with the song that she has sung for Malayalam movie Manjupoloru Penkutty in the music of Alphonse.
Recently she had sung two songs for the Malluwood Vishu hits Chotta Mumbai and Big B.

[tscii:debb5da269]A film with many firsts
The much-awaited film, AVM's "Sivaji — The Boss", directed by Shankar, which has been in the making for more than a year, will be released this month. The songs of the film were earlier released.
"Sivaji" has several firsts to its credit. This is the first time three biggies from the film industry AVM. Saravanan, director Shankar and Superstar Rajnikanth have come together. They are joined by maestro A. R. Rahman, who has composed choice tunes for the film and who is now doing the re-recording.
It may be recalled that both director Shankar and A. R. Rahman went all the way to Australia to score the music for the film. Another first in the annals of Tamil cinema is that the highest remuneration was given to a Tamil poet for a single song. Kavignar Valee got Rs.2 lakh for the song `Athiradee', he wrote for the film. As the hype around the movie and the music grew, three songs were illegally circulated on the Internet. Though they were not the final product, they gave fans a taste of what was to come prior to the release.
The biggest first was the record sales of the audio of the film on the very first day of the launch. More than two lakh CDs and the same number of cassettes were bought by various dealers — the highest number in the audio market. The reaction of the Super Star is also considered a first, and a happy one at that. Before the audio was released, Rajinikanth saw the songs and was floored. He commended director Shankar for his effort.
The film portal Galatta.com officially came out with the mobile content of "Sivaji", even before the audio release. This is another first in the Indian film industry. The portal has joined hands with Hungama Mobile and AVM Productions to offer mobile and other content across the globe. All one needs to do is sms "SIVAJI" at 4646 and one can get an array of mobile download options, including ringtones, wallpapers, logos and stills of the film. If you are a Rajini, Shankar or A.R. Rahman fan, you can carry "Sivaji" with you everywhere!

[tscii:4df0c52348]Rahman's 'Sivaji' tops the charts
A.R. Rahman's 'Sivaji', composed with Rajnikanth in mind, is creating records, though it may not be the music wizard at his best.
The top five Tamil albums are:
1. 'Sivaji' - Music Director: A.R. Rahman. The song 'Sooriyanum' by S.P. Bala, Raihanah, Benny and chorus is rocking Tamil Nadu.
2. 'Unnale Unnale' - Music Director: Harris Jayaraj. June Ponna, sung by Krish and Arun, is a huge hit among the young crowd.
3. 'Mozhi' - Music Director: Vidyasagar. Vidyasagar's best album ever is creating waves. All the songs are good but the toast is 'Kaatrin mozhiye' sung by Sujatha and Balram.
4. 'Chennai 600028' - Music Director: Yuvan Shankar Raja. The album for the youth appeals to the target audience - especially the song 'Jasa' by a group of singers led by Karthik and Ranjit.
5. 'Naan Avan Illai' - Director: Vijay Antony. There is nothing great about the album but the film's success has helped it.

some people cant stand it when someone who is really good at doing things is accepted by the majority. its very clear here. they should look back at what they wrote, they are basically contradicting themselves.
Sivaji is number one but Rahman is not at his best. i guess its a kinda good thing to say that too. Even the worst of Rahman is good enough to make an album number. So MDs at number 2, number 3 etc who are at their best is still worse than rahman's worst.

Sir, oru chinna doubt...
We are ready to accept criticism...
But criticism means something else i guess...
It should equally praise the good points also, just the way it pinpoints or blasts the bad points...
But you again go back read what you have written...
All the songs, you have pointed to have only bad points...
That means it doesn have even 1% good thing in it...

BTW, I'd already written the review long back in Nilacharal http://www.nilacharal.com/enter/review/music_review_307.asp

Vigneshram!!
Quite the contrary, i love those songs (may be I am biazed that being a big fan of RK, ARR has delivered which no tamil film musician has delivered). Your review and nilaicharal and blog are almost similar, first one was just a review and second you are seeking some answers on the hype and popularity. But coming to the point, IMHO, there is no hype to it, the songs are that good rather great. All these days, i had been listening to the songs in my stupid stereo junk box, yesterday I had a chance to blow it out in my Lexus, the feel was awesome, there was music which i did not hear all these days. Hats off ARR. It is totally an awesome score, let me take a u-turn, i think Ballelaka is going to be chart topper than Athiradee for some reason, after everything subsides (the movie comes out, people have seen it, enough play time, sahana and sahara and including Vaaji will capture the hearts), so it will be the most satisfying album of 2007.

LOL anand.
Sivaji is still playing non stop on my comp/ home theatre/ ipod/ and psp. So in my house, it is at number one spot (comp) and at number two spot its still sivaji (home theatre), same with number three (ipod) and four (psp).
People I know, my friends, cousins etc are all listening to Sivaji. Its unfair to compare a SS album to a youth one. If you really wanna compare where Rahman is compared to HJ, then compare Sivaji and VV. Both r big star movies (kamal, rajini). Obviously sivaji is the winner. Also you can compare Kadhal Desam and UU and see what u get. So dont worry about the delay of the movie, once it releases, the audio/movie will tornado everything out of the way.

Waiting for `Sivaji`!
By Moviebuzz | Monday, 07 May , 2007, 13:40
May is normally the big blockbuster month in world cinema- Hollywood, Bollywood, and Kollywood. Every year without fail, the first Friday and the last Friday of May will see a Hollywood mass movie mainly a big franchise film releasing.
This year from Hollywood, it is Spider-man 3 on May 4 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 on May 25, both big movies with their Tamil versions. Surprisingly there are no big Hindi movies this year, other than Shoot out at Lokhandwala and Cheeni Kum both due on May 25.
As far as Tamilnadu is concerned, there is only one big blockbuster scheduled for release in May- Rajnikanth's magnum opus Sivaji, which according to the trade is due on May 17.
The latest we hear from sources close to Shankar is that they are trying their best to complete post production work of the film and release it on May 26. Remember Shankar's big blockbusters Indian and Jeans were released in the month of May? The leading exhibitors in Tamilnadu are not taking bookings for any new Tamil films in May, as they are all waiting for Sivaji.
Already half a dozen big and small films producers have made it clear that they will release their ventures only a month after Sivaji. Ajit's Kireedam, Vikram's Bheema will announce their release strategy only after the release of the blockbuster film. Along with that some small films too do not want to get in the way of the mighty giant.

thineshan54321,
MAESTRO not necessarily refers to music related MASTERS.
A master deeemed good enough for another master is called Maeostro.
For example, Roy Keane (ex-MU), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Michael Ballack (Chelsea) are often referred as midfield maestro

Sivaji to be released on 26th May?
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
May 10, 2007
Expectations are feverishly high from all quarters over the release of Sivaji. Fans, movie buffs and critics are crazily looking around for every bit of information on Sivaji. Never has the release date of a Tamil movie ever been discussed so much. To add to this, AVM Productions are now putting up hoardings across the Chennai city fuelling hopes that it may be released some time soon.
General perception in Kollywood is that hoardings are erected for movies that are to hit the screens soon. The grapevine has it that toeing in line with Shankar's sentiment, Sivaji might be released on 26th May. This movie is said to be the lengthiest one by duration among all Shankar movies till date. The movie is said to be close to three hours.
If you're looking for more news on Sivaji, then here it is. The demands for the prints worldwide is a staggering 1300. And this is the first time this many copies of a Tamil movie are being made.
The release of movies such as Bheema and Kreedom among others has been stalled to pave way for Sivaji. Probably these films might be released a few weeks after Sivaji. Not only fans but other stars also await the release of the boss.

`Sivaji` hoarding appears!
By Moviebuzz | Wednesday, 09 May , 2007, 17:46
Good News. The first vinyl hoarding of most eagerly awaited Rajnikanth film Sivaji has made an appearance at Gemini fly over junction at Anna Salai, Chennai from yesterday. Similar hoardings are expected all over Chennai shortly.
The hoarding can be best viewed when one comes from Thousand Lights side of Anna Salai and gets on to the Gemini fly over and either go down to Nungambakkam High Road or go straight to Teynampet. The hoarding has been erected inside the horticultural society grounds (Drive-In Woodlands), and from the Gemini fly over it is eye catching.
Our superstar looks smashing in a blue jeans and shirt, with brown blazer and aviator glasses all designed by noted Bollywood fashion designer Manish Malhotra. Now that the hoarding has come, the release date may also be near!

[tscii:fda8582105]Sivaji press release
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
May 14, 2007
It’s official now. AVM came up with an announcement on Friday, the 10th of May on the release date of its next Magnum Opus production - Sivaji.
The worldwide release date has been announced as 31st May.
Generally, expectations soar high where Shankar's movies are concerned - it just got bigger with Rajini.
Sivaji will be AVM Productions' 168th movie. With Sivaji, Rajini's will be completing his century in Kollywood. Another interesting fact is, this movie is AVM-Rajini combo's 9 th venture together. Incidentally this is Shankar's 8th movie, which happens to be his lucky number.
If you suppose Rajini-Shankar-AVM combination is big enough, then think again. Because all the biggies in their respective fields of expertise have worked for Sivaji. Camera by KV Anand, art direction by Thotta Dharani, editing by Antony, dialogues by Sujatha, music by AR Rahman, lyrics by Vaali, Vairamuthu, Na Muthukumar and Pa Vijay and stunts by Peter Haynes just to name a few.
AR Rahman's hard work seems to have obtained the desired results. As Sivaji's songs, which are repeatedly broadcasted by all radio stations, are now the talk of the town. The movie's BGM and re-recording, which have come out exceptionally well and far more superior have been done at London and Czech Republic's capital Prague.
Stunt master Peter Haynes' fight scenes have been made aiming at perfection. KV Anand has used the latest technology "Super 35 and 4K." It is the first time that 4K technology is being used for a Tamil movie. Sivaji will also be the first Tamil movie to have more number of prints than ever before. According to the press release every teeny weeny bit of detail is taken care of.

[tscii:d4882d89cb]All about Sivaji
IndiaGlitz [Monday, May 14, 2007]
It would be destination Sivaji beginning 31 May. The much-awaited film which has created a lot of hype and expectations is releasing on 31 May with maximum number of prints. The movie has been the talk of the town what with the biggest marquee names in Kollywood (Rajini, Shankar, A R Rahman), and some of most talented technicians like cameraman K V Anand, editor Anthony, art director Thotta Tharani, writer Sujatha, choreographers Raju Sundaram, Larencce and Brinda, and costume designer Manish Malhotra have figuring in it
The movie which is Rajinikanth's 168th movie is interestingly his 100th straight film in Tamil.
With AVM too pulling out all stops to make the movie fit the image of Rajini and the imagination of Shankar, the expectations are at an amazing high.
The movie is director Shankar's eighth film, his luck rests on eight. Rajinikanth favors nine and this is his ninth movie with AVM.
Rajinikanth, who looks refreshing, thanks to costumes designed by Manish Malhotra considers Thursdays to be an auspicious day. The movie releases on Thursday.
What more, acclaimed cinematographer K V Anand has used state-of-the-art technology to shoot the movie. He has used advanced Super - 35, 4k tech, to shoot the movie. This is the first-ever time such a technology being introduced in Tamil cinema.
Due mention should be made of art-director Thota Tharani. He has come up with grand sets and recreated foreign locales in Chennai for a song sequence.
Anthony, who has carved a niche with his slick editing, has reportedly come up with a stupendous work. Sujatha, who is known for crisp and meaningful dialogues and scintillating music by A R Rahman are sure to work in favor of the film.
With a team of talented choreographers in Prabhu Deva, Raju Sundaram, Larencce Raghavendra and Brinda coming together, no doubt the choreography in Sivaji would be hip-shaking and eye-catching. Veterans Vaali (Adhiradikaran) and Vairamuthu (Vaji Vaji) along with a young brigade comprising Na Muthukumar (Ballelaka), Pa Vijay (Style), have come up with catchy lyrics that is set to scintillating tunes by Rahman. The songs are already a craze among music-buffs and are repeatedly aired in several FM Radio Stations.
Rahman has composed the background score in Chennai, London and Cheq Republic. Designer Manish Malhotra, who has worked his magic on such Bollywood beauties like Karishma Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee and Kajol, was roped in to work his undoubted skill on Rajinikanth. His effort seems to have paid of. For, going by the stills released to the press, Rajini looks at his smartest best.
Shriya plays Rajini's heroine. On being part of a Rajinikanth film, Shriya says, “It was project which had all the big names in Tamil film industry. When Shankar offered me the role, I immediately grabbed it with both hands since I am a great fan of Rajinikanth”.
Others in the cast include Vivek, Suman, Raghuvaran, Manivannan, and Vadivukarasi, Solomon Pappaiyah, Raja, Bose Venkat and others.

Shankar talks on Sivaji
How have you made the whole of Tamil Nadu to talk ceaselessly?
We are just doing our job and that job has transcended beyond even ourselves.
And now after the release of the Sivaji songs, the anticipation has grown even more?
Yes.
Now even when you were taking the Mudhalvan movie, it seemed that the both of you (Shankar & Rajni) were going to come together for a film, and then why the gap in between and now why has it finally materialized in Sivaji?
We have met and spoken on numerous occasions, but I think this is the right time; everything has come together correctly, the script. umm.just everything, all things have fallen into place and because of that we started the movie.
Do you typically get the story ready and then choose the appropriate lead star for it - what is your system for this?
Generally, we get the story ready and choose a star who is more apt and suiting for that role. In all of my stories such as Kadhalan, Jeans and other such lighter love movies, you can see a certain super heroism, larger than life.you can see those types of characters; those have become super hero driven stories. If you take any of those, whether Rajni Sir had starred or whether Kamal Sir had starred, they would have been excellent. So that is the question of whether we begin with an artist or whether we begin with a story.but in terms of this movie (Sivaji), I was thinking about Rajni Sir when I came up with this story.
So from the beginning you had this story in mind for him?
Yea, this story came about with him in mind.
Then, when you make a movie with Rajni and because he is a Superstar, did you feel a lot of pressure? Such as: should there be a certain kind of buildup? Did you have any pressure since you knew you were creating a story for a Superstar?
There was both pressure and jolliness. Because there are certain expectations of him in movies, you have to satisfy those requirements. And another thing, because he is there, there are certain advantages, for instance you cannot take on certain issues with some other heroes...so because of that, there are no limits to my creative imagination, but if I placed those same issues on all artists it just would not work out, so when I approach these issues with him there it is be quite interesting.for example, in the "Athiradee" song, you can witness what I'm saying, you cannot do all of those things we have done in the song with any other hero.so there are many plus points like that, but of course there are pressures as well, for instance you cannot change him too much, but then again, people also expect to see some change in my movies.so essentially, you have to give and not give.have to reach a certain balance, so it was both enjoyable and demanding, but finally, I think have solved those issues.
You are known as being a super director and if we take all of your past movies, you can clearly see a sort of Shankar stamp on all of them and in the same way, we can clearly distinguish a Rajni movie from other films, so if we look at it that way and now that the both of you are collaborating together - this Sivaji movie is whose movie?
They say this is a "Ra-Shankar-jni" formula. (Laughs) No, but seriously, for those viewers who are coming expecting a Rajni movie, they will see Rajni Sir's formula and for those coming to see a Shankar movie, they will see Shankar's formula and on top of that, for those fans who are coming to see what a combination of the two would be, even they will be fulfilled, so I have maintained that balance appropriately.
Sir, now in this movie from all the things we have seen, Rajni Sir looks very youthful, how did you accomplish this?
For his character in this movie, we thought a lot about his get-ups and what would look good and like I said before, we cannot change Rajni Sir too much since when people think of Rajni Sir, a certain image registers in their minds, so we cannot change him too much, but we have to bring a tiny bit of change and so we thought about ways to make him look pleasing and we went about gathering stills from his previous movies which we thought would be apt for the character he plays in Sivaji and then we short listed and short listed until we came up with get-ups which perfectly fit his role in the movie. And then we went about procuring the wigs and make-up necessary to reproducing the selected get-ups and we did numerous fittings and only at the last minute did we get the type of wigs and looks we were aiming for.for the city look we used the Billa get-up.
Now when you were doing all of this research were you and your team the only ones doing it or was he (Rajni) also involved?
No he turned over the responsibility to me after hearing what I had to say about what would look good for the movie.after seeing the stills and wigs we came up with and seeing that it was all correct, he was quite happy.

Sivaji in theatres on May 31
The long wait is over. The most anticipated film of recent times, Sivaji, is releasing on the May 31, AVM Studios announced.
"No, it is not a lucky number or anything like that. The post-production work will be over by May 15," S C Babu, CEO, AVM Productions said.
Other than the digital prints, 400 Tamil and 300 Telugu prints will be sent to various theatres all over the world making it the first Tamil film to be released simultaneously in the US, Canada, Europe, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Australia.
In Tamil Nadu, a large number of digital prints will be despatched to 140 digital theatres for the first time. However, the names of the theatres have not been finalised.
"From the response we are getting, it looks like the first two weeks will be fully booked even before the release," Babu said.
AVM seems excited about their new product, which has taken more than one and a half years to finish.
The CEO agreed that Sivaji is the most anticipated film in India now. "We keep getting queries about the film not only from Tamil Nadu but also from all around the world," he added.
Meanwhile, the music of Sivaji by A R Rahman is a hit. "We got excellent feedback from places like Punjab where people have loved every song though they cannot understand a single word, which goes to show music has no barrier," the CEO added.
Incidentally, Sivaji is Rajnikanth's 100th Tamil film, and the ninth for AVM. All the eight films Rajni had done for AVM were huge hits.
Sivaji is also the most expensive film made by AVM and according to the CEO, "possibly the most expensive film made in India too."

[tscii:5c632f3454]'Sivaji' songs rule Tamil charts
By IANS

Printer friendly page
With no impressive releases in the last couple of weeks, the Tamil audio list remains the same. Though not a great album by A.R. Rahman's standards, 'Sivaji' is still a big hit.
The top five Tamil albums are:
1. 'Sivaji' - Music Director: A.R. Rahman. The song introducing Rajnikant and sung by S.P. Balasubramaniam, Rehanah Benny and chorus is creating a buzz among the actor's fans. But the pick of the album is 'Sahara pookal', a melody rendered beautifully by Vijay Yesudas and Gomathishree.
2. 'Unnale Unnale' - Music Director: Harris Jayaraj. 'June ponna' sung by Krish and Arun is still the favourite. Yet another hit album from Harris Jayaraj.
3. 'Mozhi' - Music Director: Vidyasagar. Vidyasagar's best album continues its dream run. You will never get tired of listening to Sujatha and Balram's rendition of 'Kaatrin mozhiye'.
4. 'Chennai 600028' - Music Director: Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film's surprise box office success has helped the album sales.
5. 'Naan Avan Illai' - Music Director: Vijay Antony. There is nothing great about the album but the film's success has helped it. The song 'Ean enakku' rendered by Jayadev and Sangeeth Rajeswaran is doing quite well.

Aamir Khan bowled over by Rahman
http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/31222.html
Bollywood super star Aamir Khan was mesmerized after listening to the audio track of A R Rahman's Sivaji.
The actor listened to the songs and heaped laurels on A R Rahman for the variety and richness in the sound track. Aamir Khan is currently working in the Hindi version of Ghajini and the actor has insisted that A R Rahman should score the music.
The two share a unique rapport ever since Rangeela. The musical score in movies including Lagaan, Rang De Basanti and Mangal Pandey are a big hit.
The Hindi version is directed by Murugadoss and Asin plays the heroine.

The most awaited movie of the year, Rajinikanth’s Sivaji was finally slated to release on 31st May. The movie also got censored recently and was given a clean U certificate. The fans have already started their countdown for the d-day but disappointment is in store for the fans as the movie will be gracing the theatres only by mid June.Sivaji A.R.Rahman the music director of this magnum opus was given a special screening and was reportedly quite unhappy with his own background score for this grandiose movie. He informed Shankar about his feelings and conveyed his willingness to work on improving the background score. Director Shankar and A.R.Rahman approached AVM with their idea, which apparently has been accepted and as a result the movie's release date has been changed to 15th of June.[/tscii:49a4e6689c]

[tscii:0cdb0099a6]Oru koodai sunlight- never before, never again
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
May 21, 2007
We know that you are all dying to hear even the smallest piece of news about Sivaji. We have just the thing for you. A first hand report of what the Sivaji experience will be for you, an opinion from one of the privileged few who have already seen the movie. How could anyone have already seen the movie? No, this is not another case of Sivaji material being leaked ahead of the actual release date (remember what happened with the music).
This one is from a person who couldn’t contain his excitement after seeing the movie at one of the very few preview screenings that have been held for various reasons.
The person was discrete enough not to reveal anything about the story. The only thing that he could manage were a few words of appreciation of the highest levels, he was searching for words actually. The only coherent thing that we got from him was that the song ‘Oru Koodai Sunlight’ would be a never before seen experience on the big screen and the standards that it has set are going to be too tough to emulate in the foreseeable future. Well it seems that it has to be seen to be believed.
Finally summing up what that lucky guy felt about Sivaji; we told you that he was actually searching for words; we guess the right word would have been ‘extraordinary’. We sincerely hope that we are right.

Aamir Khan bowled over by Rahman

Is Sahara inspired from "Ore naal" from Ilamai oonjalaadugiradhu.
Check out these songs for yourself and decide
http://vigneshram.blogspot.com/2007/05/sivaji-sahana-inspired-from-ilaiyaraja.html
Its only the first three/ four notes that are the same i think:
O-rey-naal
Sa-haa-naa
This can hardly be called inspiration....
