Now Here It Is:
It was a late Saturday night, or more appropriately Sunday morning. I basically had the highway to myself, and there I was, the perfect driver that I am, maintain my pace at sixty miles per hour in my V6 Honda Civic, with AR Rehman’s Thaka Thayya Thayya song blasting the speakers. En Manadhil Undhan Aadhikkama? Ithu Oru Naal Iru Naal Needikuma? Illai Uyirin Moolathai Bhaathikuma? I sang along and kept my pace, when someone’s booster lights almost blinded me through the rear view mirror. I squinted my eyes and slowed my speed to 40MPH. The Toyota Camry swirved to the right and came up next to me and slowed down.
I looked over. In the driver’s seat sat an attractive brunnete who seemed to be in her early twenties. Aval Azhagin Kadhakadhapil Aandu Aynooru Vaaza Vendum Thayya Thayya. She had her hair tied up into a pony tail, and maroon lipstick with a sweatshirt that said San Diego State. I looked at her, and as I would do to any pretty girl I see and smiled. She joyfully ignored it and sped in front of me. Sigh! Hey this isn’t the first time a girl has ignored me on the freeway at 3’O clock in the morning, when I’m going at 40 MPH.
Anywayz, I increased my speed now that she was ahead of me and I didn’t’ have the boosters blinding me. Unnal En Manam Adandhadhu Paadhi, Unnal En Manam Ezandhadhu Paadhi, Kadhal Jothiye, Vaazvin Neethiye, Dhevadhai Ne Meiyyo Poiyyo? I whistled as I maintained 60 MPH. A few seconds later, the Camry cut me off, it didn’t effect me much as my speed didn’t have to change, since we were both going at constant speed. Yen Mudhalum Mudhalume Mudivum Mudivume. The Camry slowly started to slow down, I followed to avoid collision. The Camry kept slowing down until I had to drive at 30 MPH.
“What’re you doing?” I thought and changed to the right lane, and started to overtake her Camry. The Camry started to increase speed, and came up to my left and honked once. I looked over again, and she was looking ahead. I looked ahead and sped faster and so did she. “What’s that supposed to mean?” I thought and slowed down, she cut me off again and slowed her pace again. Again, like I did before I changed lanes and increased my speed and so did she. I looked at her again and thought “Does she wanna race?” She looked at me this time and again sped up leaving me behind.
Okay…so racing it is. I said and looked through my rear view mirror…No one. I looked ahead, no one for miles. Alright! I pushed the button on my stereo system and it changed to disk 2. I can’t race with this song playing! I skipped to track 3…the song started. I increased my speed 70 MPH, and so did she. The drums started to beat and I increase the speed to 80 MPH. The whistling started. The perfect racing song was starting to play. Dhoom Again See Your Wildest Dreams Slowly Come Alive! We alternated in increasing speed until we were both now officially racing. I was at 85 MPH and she was around 80….
EAT DIRT! I thought looking at her Camry through my rear view mirror. She hit the gas. Lets Shout! So did I. Break Out. Our cars roared as we pierced through the wind on the empty highway. We were rapidly approaching the big 100. Come On Once Again Lets Hear It! Dhoom Machalee….I hit 100, and she was just a few centimeters behind me. Once More Come On You People!! She caught up to me. I increased the pressure of my foot on the accelerator. DHOOM MACHALE-DHOOM MACHALE. A wave of goosebumps went up my legs and my hands. DHOOM MACHAL-DHOOM MACHALE-DHOOM! Dhoom Dhoom Dhoom Once Again! She was chatching up with me, and I floored the accelerator.
I looked at my speed-o-meter and it read 110 MPH. She caught up to me again, and this time was passing my off leading the way. I looked in front of me as she went ahead and swirled to the right taking three lanes to the right ahead of me. I looked in front of me and there I saw the highway going into three lanes inside a tunnel about a mile away. She slowed down, and so did I.
The Speed-o-meter fell to 90, 85 and then rested on 80. My palms started to sweat. And When One Comes Your Way… I looked at her, she started gaining speed. You Know It’s Here To Stay… I started accelerating going up to her. We rapidly approached the tunnel which was now only a few hundred yards ahead of us. The Tunnel was Narrow and had a sharp turn. Getting through it at high speed was possible suicide. You Steal The Chance Cause You’re The Chief Of Hearts Yeah.. She didn’t have plans of slowing down, and neither did I. My throat went dry, and the Tunnel was just a few yards away. There’s No More…There’s No Backing Out Now… We pushed into the tunnel like bullets pushing their way into flesh.
The Beats of the song sent another wave of goose bumps through my body. I looked at the speed, it was roughly 95 MPH. We were both adjacent to each other with one lane in the middle. I saw the sharp turn coming up ahead, and took my foot off of the gas and pressed on the breaks. Our cars screeched, and I swirved to the left and went into the lane in the middle. The left turn would make us jam into the right walls of the tunnel at the speed we were going if there wasn’t one lane as the buffer between the car and either of the wall. My biceps flexed and a drop of sweat ran down the side of my head as I tried to keep the car from swirling out of control.
In order to avoid jamming into the left wall, she was forced to slow down since I was hogging the middle lane. After getting a few centimeters behind me she came to the middle lane with a screech. Our cars screeched again as my heart rate skyrocketed. The cars swerved to the left and we left the middle lane and went to the last right. As the curve finished, I hit the gas as fast as I could. Dhoom Dhoom! Like a cork shooting out of a champagne bottle. (http://www.2dolphins.com/images/blogpix/champagne_cork.jpg) Dhoom Dhoom! Our cars shot out of the tunnel to the other side of the highway with her behind me. Let It Go Let It Go Yo! I inhaled as much air as I good and let it out. Dhoom Again And Make The Whole World Crazy, Set Your Spirit Free. I slowed down and she came up next to me on my right side. Dhoom Again I’mma Take A Break Now Come Celebrate With Me. I looked at her, and she looked in my direction. Dhoom Again Cause All I Wanna Do Is Steal The Show Somehow! I smiled and this time she smiled back. Dhoom Again Cause All I Wanna Say Is May The Time Be Now. She gave me a cute wave with her left hand. Can Nothing Get Me Down? Go Out And Paint The Town! I gave her my best Macho wave thing which I had seen in Kaho Na Pyar Hai. She slightly laughed and went to into the exiting lane. Lets Shout, Break Out, Come One Once Again Lets Hear It. She exited the freeway. Dhoom Machale-Dhoom Machale Dhoom Machale-Dhoom Machale- Dhoom Machale Dhoom Machale Dhoom… I slowed down back to sixty, and felt like I was sitting in an oven. Dhoom Dhoom Come On Once Again. I hit the AC and let the cold air hit my face as I drove the rest of the way to home.
DHOOM MACHALE…..
