Who can forget the music which oozed that flowery innocence in "My dear Kuttichaathaan" be it in bgm or songs like "poo vaadai kaatre", "chella kuzhandhaigaLe". But the moot point is can the weary, old IR recreate that sheer magic again?

[tscii:280bca828a]One should think first about the Movie Clipping ‘Inime Naangadan’, the intended Audience for the movie are not only the general public but particularly for the kids....

If take on the way with lyrics and the tune/orchestra of the two songs in the clipping (which will appease the kids), it is obvious that, it is Excellent....

And ofcourse there is no doubt that the BGM for the movie will be Extraordinarily brilliant....[/tscii:280bca828a]

RS,

Thanks. Are the mp3's really 320kbps?

'oru murai kettale' seems to live to its lyrics. 'unnai kel' is typical philosophical-IR songs. I wish the tune was more 'interesting'.

Still wondering how the movie will appeal to the masses who are exposed to pixar standard animations. Hope at least there's no lip-out-of-sync seen on the trailers.

wow!!! Directly Raaja is taking us aboard in the flight of fantasy. The music is magical accompanied with visuals. Iam going to stop expecting anything more from Raaja in terms of stand alone albums & songs which are not upto the mark when i listen! but when accompanied with visuals it makes perfect sense and the best those visuals can have. My recent one such experience was Maayakannadi!!
I kept dumb after listening to Inimey naangathaan album since i was not very happy about it. Now when i saw it with the visuals in this trailer It took me to another plane!

In usage of the percussions, Cheeni Kum's hang over is clearly seen.
Going by the current energy level of this 64-yr old young chap, he needs just a full fledged romantic theme like Mouna Ragam or Punnagai Mannan now :)

Rediff reviews Inimey Naanga than music [:)]. A Positive review - http://in.rediff.com/movies/2007/aug/24sssine.htm

Inimey Nangathaan is a 3D animation film in Tamil directed by Venky Baboo. Valee's lyrics have been set to tune by Ilayaraja.

There are only four tracks in this album. The maestro has retained his individual signature but initiated a slight makeover incorporating some contemporary sound designs in his compositions. This change is somewhat evident in his singing style too.

The opening number Orumurai Kettalae is by Madhu Balakrishnan and Sriram Parthasarathy. The admirable makeover is not in the composer's style alone. It is a slightly different Madhu Balakrishnan you come across in this album. Gone is his crooning style and soulful rendition, there is more energy in his singing, credit for which goes to Ilayaraja's lively compositions too.

The track starts with a little bit of swara patterns and guitar flourishes. Both Madhu Balakrishnan and Sriram complement each other and put up a dynamic rendition. The composer has punctuated this number with extra sounds in English, hip hop and impressive chorus.

Ilayaraja himself has rendered the next number, Unnai keal unnai keal. His singing is not lackadaisical here -- there is an unusual energy and life in his rendition. Though there is an undercurrent of pathos, it is a lively number with guitar spells in the beginning and profound instrumental interlude. Valee's lyrics are meaningful with a philosophical bend.

Vazhvu Vaenduma Va Va begins with drum beats followed by vibrant orchestration. The singers are again Madhu Balakrishnan and Sriram Parthasathy, who follow the same exuberant route pouring life into the track. Valee's lyrics emphasising the importance of faith in life, exhorting to eschew superstitions and have faith in self, are didactic.

Ilayaraja rounds off with Keerthanar Arambathilae, a kathakalakshepam number. It narrates the story of a malevolent feudal lord named Jagathalaprathapan. The track in the form of remix medley with the accompaniment of harmonium starts with Ilayaraja's famous devotional Janani Janani. It is followed by snippets of hits from old Tamil and Hindi films, like Naan Aanayittan, Mehbooba Mehbooba etc. interspersed with descriptive passages. A piece obviously for the masses.

Inimey Nangathaan, a short spin of just four tracks, proves the dictum that "small is beautiful"

Review - Inimey Naangathan

Producer: S. Sri Devi
Story, Screenplay, Dialogues and Direction: S. Venki Prabhu
Animation: Maaya Bimbam Media.
Music: Ilayaraja.
Choreography: Siva Shankar
Lyrics: Vaali

Amidst of commercial and offbeat flicks making their way onto the screens in Kollywood this year, here comes another set of movie to break the trend and that’s an animation film. I cannot say that Inimey Naangathan is not something new to the audience, since you all might have seen animation films like Hanuman and many others, but all belong to the mythological category. But this is the first animation film to be have made on social theme by presenting you all the moral that ‘Selfishness and Jealousy is more dangerous than a serpent’s poison’.

The film revolves around the lives of four different characters Viswanathan aka Vicchu, Vaidyanathan aka Vaidhi, Varadharajan aka Varadhu and Venkata Govindhu aka Govindu. All these men live in the same village and leading a life without any proper ambition. All that they aim is to become rich like Bill Gates without working hard. It is at one point of time; they meet an old woman in the town who advises them to climb up to Hilly region where they would find a Hermit and he is the only one who could satisfy all their needs.

They keep moving on the mountainous region and meet the hermit who says that he would grant them all their needs but under one condition. The condition is that they must get a Rudhraaksha of Hermit that is carried away by an evil force. And also adds that when they get back the thing he had asked for, he in turn would give what they ask for.

All these four friends keep traveling together in search of Rudraaksha where on the way they get distracted by lots of temptations. Three among four friends develop a kind of jealousy and try to kill one another and finally it is Viswanathan who wins over all the temptations and gets back what hermit had asked for. When he gets granted with all the wealth he had asked for, he refuses to take it saying that he had done all these things out of selfishness and now on he will start working hard with all his strength and earn the wealth.

Before valuating the film, it is my task to express my gratitude to Director Mr. S. Venki Prabhu for coming up with a different film with boldness and he has proved to be a trendsetter. Not only paying attention to the animation and computer graphics, but also to the story, screenplay, especially the dialogues that are mind blowing. It is great on the part of S. Sri Devi for producing an animation film at the cost of Rs. 3.60 Crore.

Speaking about the characterizations, it is the voices rendered by great personalities of Kodambakkam who have breathed their life on all the animated characters. It is M.S. Bhaskar who renders his voice for the character of Viswanathan, Vasu Vikram for Vaidhyanathan, Paandu for Varadharajan and Maaran for Venkata Govindhu.

Siva Shankar who choreographed for great songs like Manmadha Rasa from Thiruda Thirudi and Innisai from Varalaaru has directed songs for the animated characters in this film. Melodies tuned by maestro Ilayaraja are excellent piece and singers like Madhu Balakrishnan, Sriram Parthasarathy, Mayilsamy, G.K have made the songs sound good with their molded voice. Ilayaraja has sung for one song titled ‘Unnai Kael Unnai Kael’ and it’s a good presentation from him.

B. Lenin on the other hand has done a wonderful job by working with proper of sense of editing and the hero over here in this film is Maaya Bimbam Media who has worked on animation and computer graphics for this film.

The film is more interesting to watch and that’s not only for the purpose of entertainment or to kill your time, but it has something great to convey and that’s the moral of avoiding Jealousy and Selfishness in the lives of mankind for that would destroy one’s life itself. Director S. Venki Babu has aimed for children as the target audience and it is with this idea he has brought this moral into the screen.

Hats off to the entire team for making a great exceptional film and you please watch this film and give them a good welcome.

Verdict: Inimey Naangathan – Trendsetter of Kollywood

" Ilayaraja’s music plays a significant role in seamlessly integrating the movie watching experience especially when there are no real actors involved. The maestro’s mastery in the usage of sounds and chords for the song ‘Oru Murai Kettal’ is evident. The instrumental usage for the song is amazingly elegant. "

Primary Strength of IlayaRaja. His job must be *heard* to be believed rather than to be seen on screen. How many films and how many bad acting he had lift with his BGMs

Any idea where can I get the movie in DVD please.

No Idea :( I just happened to watch the last 45 minutes of the movie while surfing channels in Zee Telugu.... Amazing BG score by Raaja - another wasted effort. In terms of Animation it was far superior to earlier 'Made in India' efforts and also the team could've gone high if the movie had succeded.

BTW I went to the movie on second day of its release and the theatre people said as not even a single person came to watch the movie and the operator was afraid watching the movie alone, they have pulled it off from screening :P

Bad marketing was one thing which made this movie a flop I believe.

This never got a release in the US as far as I know. I hope Ayngaran will release it on DVD. It looked more interesting than the usual Hanuman, Ganesh, etc. kind of CG films from India.

rajasaranam

dragun,

Hanuman, Ganesha et all were 2D animation movies while IN was a 3D animation movie. Only Indians have attempted by and large in making 3D animation movies with human characters! (Final Fantasy was the only attempt by west ASAIK). They have made movies with all kinds of animals/bugs/toys/cars wat not... wherein the mistakes in animations/motions will not be highlighted much. But while making a movie with human characters the mistakes will be apparently visible.
Indians are very courgeous in attempting this genre again and again right from 'Aladdin' 'Sinbad' ' pandavas' 'Inimey Naangathan'( Can be added though humans were made as caricatures) upto the 'Sultan' :)

This is sad side of Indian Tamil film marketing especially with IR music. If it was ARR then it would have been even released in Antartica, Himalaya and Mangolia ans even would have nominated for canes and chinese film festivals. Basically Good ones are not promoted.... or marketed properly.
