ban on dal in the US

Hello all,
Indian govt has banned export of Dal to the states. How are you all coping? any suggestions please.

Also does anyone have ideas on substitutes we can use for toor dal? I have never used oily toor dal before, can it be used as substitute?

Absolutely! Oiled tur dal is normal tur dal mixed with oil, so that it doesnt get spoiled.

OMG !! i was wondering last week when i went to the India stores as to why the price of Toor Dal was so high !! It was double than the usual prices !! Now i know..iam hoping this ban will be lifted soon !

Oiled Toor dal?? Hearing of it for the first time..is that available in Indian stores too or elsewhere?

The indian stores are waiting for the moment to jack up the prices, and they found one. Most of the Toor dal is coming from Kenya and other African countries and also from S. America and this should not be a concern in USA.

Govt allows duty-free wheat imports by pvt trade and baned export of pulses
In a bid to curtail inflationary pressures, the Union Government today
allowed duty-free import of wheat by private parties and halted all
exports of pulses with immediate effect.

The decision, taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Prices
(CCP), follows spiralling prices of these two essential commodities.
Even at the wholesale end, spot wheat was quoting at Rs 865 a quintal
in Delhi on Wednesday, 13.8 per cent more than last year's
corresponding level of 760 a quintal.

The increase has been sharper in pulses: from Rs 1,748 to Rs 2,450 (40
per cent) for chana or chickpea and from Rs 1,855 to Rs 3,155 (70 per
cent per cent) for urad or black gram.

Regarding the export ban on pulses, too, the Minister did not set a
definite time limit. "We don't want any more exports till Diwali (i.e.
mid-October). Further details will be notified by the concerned
departments (Commerce and Revenue) by tomorrow," Mr Pawar added.
