True IR fans have very little to say about ARR here ( I mean true music lovers of IR ) . ARR had already proved his worth on western music :D
I hope even if there is any criticism, its constructive only

What genre are u talking about nakeeran. Would be an interesting topic to discuss (albeit sweeping statements from both sides claiming that one out did the other). Neither mastered them , i would put it that way. They both adapted to suit our tastes over the years. I would any way put IR ahead in rock and roll and western classical and would put ARR ahead in leaning towards electronica as well as his fabulous inspiration of pink floyd (as evident in Yuva). By the way, i know that he is a great fan of pink floyd.

Western Music-nnu sonna too much generalization, I guess we should be more prudent in telling atleast a subtype.
With regards to Western Classical IR leads the way atleast by improvisation, # of movies, BGM, MSV took the plunge into giving amazing Heavy Metal/Hard Rock type songs in Ninaithale Inikkum, Now ARR has done a fabulous job of giving a Hard-Rock types BGM. If you wanna talk about mixing RAP and such -> ARR surely started it with Kadhalan, YSR is doing a good job (though I dont like the way how the lyrics are washed away, sometimes looses meaning), but infusion of more Latin rythms, Arabic Music (Eastern Style infulence), ARR leads this arena.

The typical ARR fan observes all the above points in the negative when the focus is on one MD called Harris, though  As far as I have seen, the typical ARR fan then becomes biased, sulks in Harris's success, becomes aggressive and lets loose unnecessary abuse, and simply does not reconcile to the changed realities.

This is a dumb thread because both musicians are from different eras. IR brought in western styles of a different genre in his era.& ARR brought in others in his era.
Thus the answer is:
Disco & 80s western music = IR
90s to present = ARR

Well said guys. exactly my thoughts.
According to my observations.
IR --- Western classical specialist. He is the specialist of mixing carnatic and western contents.
ARR --- Western Rap and others. He is the one who mastered techno beats and sound effects.
Yuvan --- Rap and south american Hip Hop style
IR and ARR is mainly inspired of Engilsh style. yuvan is inspired of american style.
Dinesh, atleast u considered yuvan's contribution to western and mentioned.

Vasanth, its undenieable that YSR that is rocking the country now... HJ comes in next, though it might seem HJ is ruling the chart becoz of Anniyan & Ghajini [i seriously think its Ghajini that made HJ a household name now].the only fact i dun like bout HJ he copies ARR music too much for a limit...im never against YSR or IR...its just that people compare ARR with YSR that really thicks me off....wut eva it is...YSR & HJ is the ruling guys for now....

Yuvan seems to be the luckiest among MDs w.r.t Fan admiration.
There was one catchy song in Pattiyal which had Adaludan padal beats, if HJ or anyone had done that he'd been awarded Capital punishment here. Azhagai irukirai bayama irkirathu was a damn squib, Vallavan is just passable yet Yuvan seems to be ruling everywhere.

If he is only copying Rahman in every album how is it that his songs rule the charts while Rahman's do not? As far as I can tell, his songs from Anniyan, Gajini, and now Vettaiyadu Vilayadu were/are ruling. The truth is that even with a little bit copying here and there, Harris starts his songs with a bang and that momentum carries it till the end. His numbers are catchy and have the raw energy of a new MD, like Rahman's were in the nineties. He is talented and this should be acknowledged. And finally, I am not a typical HJ fan. I am more happy if a Rahman album is successful.

PPl here create an image as if Rahman scored damp squibs Post 2000. I fail to understand why......... There had been so many beautiful albums and songs post 2000 from Rahman. The only year that could be said as Rahman's worst patch imho is the year 2001. Let us look back and see what he has given us post 2001
2001
Star - Lifted from hindi songs , so no comments - 2-3 songs are hit, film utter flop
Hit songs - nenthukitten, macha machiniye, manasukkul oru puyal
Paarthale Paravasam - Lovely songs, excllent theme music - film utter flop
Hit songs - moondrezhuthu ketta vaarthai, adhisaya thirumanam
Rahman's Special - Azhagae sugama, Theme music
2002
Alli Arjuna - Lifted from hindi songs, songs and film total washout
Kannathil Muthamittal - beautiful songs, songs hit,

Hit songs - Sundari, Vidai kodu
Rahman's special - Vellai pookal, Nenjil jil jil
Baba - Songs hit, Trend setting theme song (athukappuram niraya padathula hero vuku oru english theme song poda aarambhichaanga :) ), Film flop
Hit songs - Baba kichu tha, Sakthi kodu
Rahman's special - Baba Rap, Maya Maya
Kaathal Virus - Melodious and nice songs, Album is flop commercially, but Vaazhga vaazhga song, Sonnalum ketpathillai, hey hey enna aachu are hit songs..... Film - as usual utter flop
2003
Parasuram - Trash songs and Trash film
Udhaya - Hit songs, Udhaya udhaya and Tiruvallikeni Raani - Film - disaster (film released in 2004)
Rahman's special - Udhaya Udhaya
Boys - Super hit songs, film - average

lol....i think i have said it b4,and im again mentioning it just for u ... bare in mind that what is a HIT,not neccasary its GOOD and what is flop, not neccasary its bad... if ur gonna judge an MD by only his HITS/FLOPS,it shows ur maturity...there r plenty of flop songs of ARR that were just too good...and there is few numbers of ARR which is average became a big hit.... same goes to mr HJ, ur ghajini, anniyan,VV might be a big hit,but quality wise,it drops WAY DOWN...all the tunes were so repetitive....every songs of his could be linked to his previous songs, not saying ARR or IR or others doesnt do it,but the amount of numbers that HJ did that is just too much to count...its QUALITY that will hold u in the industry for a long time...see IR...a good example,a long period...close to 30 years, and ARR successful 14 years and going strong with big banners still waiting to work with him... wokay va...
