manithunakulle oru mirugam by madhan deserves a shot (not saying it should be in the list, but i'm just a big fan of serial killers/psycho/crime books)
it's an honest and daring attempt by him and it was really shocking for me. i stopped reading after 3rd part, it was getting incredibly terrifying and gory. i could't sleep on the night because the images of the victims keep disturbing my mind..
the most shocking one was the story of Andrei Chikathilo (main reason i'm bringing the book because feb 21st is the date he was shot dead in prison).. That guy was crazy, really insane..

There was a movie called Citizen X made about the Andrei Chikathilo investigation. Stephen Rea as the detective on trail bearing the immense pressure comes up with an awesome performance. It is not a traditional thriller and is quite slow but you will feel the intensity. In many ways Rea's celebrated performance in V for Vendetta is only a diluted version of his performance in Citizen X

i remember watching cx in VHS (lol, long time ago). now i realise that it was a straight to video movie
i hope someone can come with a new and improved edition of his story because... well, he's one sick dude.
Edit: Gone through wikipedia, and i found out another movie based on Andrei the Butcher called Evilenko (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evilenko). I've never heard of the movie before.. Will check on the local stores..
