Hi all,
I have read books by different women writers like Anuradha Ramanan, Indumathi, Ramani Chandran, Sivasankari, Vaasanthi etc. I would like to discuss and know what you people think about their way of writing and about their stories.
Also I would like to know the best tamil women writer.

[tscii:090eb5a513]among the writers male or female you cant choose the best one...........becasue everyone's style is different , one's best is may not the best for some others....like that. But EVERY WRITER is of UNIQUE in their own style........so as a READER you should read more and more by different authors...........[/tscii:090eb5a513]

[tscii:32225959c6]Hi everybody, this is vasumathy here. Please read a novel by name "NAINDA ULLAM' written by Anutthama. Very very interesting family love story. Today's Ramanichandran novels should learn from that. but my favourite women writer is Vaasanthi for her humanist approach. In men ofcourse SUjatha and Balakumaran.[/tscii:32225959c6]

[tscii:44157add2e]Among all the woman writers in Tamil that I have read, the best is Ambai. Ambai's "Veetin Moolaiyil Oru Samaiyalari" is a collection of brilliant short stories. Ambai's writings are feminist; but she would be probably horrified at the thought being a feminist writer. She is a a writer who happens to be a woman rather than a woman writer.
I still remember "Tharaiyil Irangum Vimanangal" by Indhumathi. It is her masterpiece.
Vasanthi is one of the better writers in Tamil.
Among the new writers, I really liked Bama. Bama's recent book, Vanmam, was very good. Bama's scene is very different from the one I know of. What does a Chennai dweller know of Pallar-Pariyar casteist clashes in a village?
Kanchana Damodaran used to frequent these pages. I have read a few short stories by her and they were quite good.[/tscii:44157add2e]

[tscii:f8a2e8a9ba]I don't know why the discussion is confined with women novel writers.in novel field i think has a leong way to go, but they had a good start, espically that of ambai and dhamayanthi. sivasankari has come up grately in oru manthanin kathai. but women writers work is great in kavithai espically that of salma, kutti revathi, vennilla. malathi mythri's novel though highly pitted against male community , has lot of things to reexamine our society and culture.[/tscii:f8a2e8a9ba]

[tscii:904f6b1a88]the best of all ,say among the "contemporaries",is ,in my view ,Vaasanthi.
She clearly exhibits the intellectual mind set, synchronised with our times,of the woman in the later part of 20th century.
ambai or rajam krishnan --they are different--cant say they are "woman" writers[/tscii:904f6b1a88]

[tscii:9ba7bc6e10]Ramanachandran is just amazing. There are many authors who are trying to resemble her way of writing, to catch up our attention. I recently read a novel from a different author, which had lot of inputs from Ramani Chandran's novel. I know there's a book shop run my RC's huby which is in Mylapore and I guess it is Karthik Book Store. U get all RC's collection there.[/tscii:9ba7bc6e10]

Hi Friends
Am new to this forum.... am a great fan of Ramani Chandran. After seeing this looooooooong discussion about RC, me too want to put forth my opinions.
Frist of all I want to say that why do I like RC's Novel.
See
Firstly I need Time pass so I read RC's Book, because in her novel, there won't be any tragedy endings.
secondly some friends wrote that there is no social value in her story, for this what I personnaly believe is we all are well matured, we should know to distinguish between good and bad right?. Throughout our life we cann't depend on others to advice us.
Then same theme... for that also I have one point.. even though the theme is same just see the way she takes the story.... fighting between the Nayagan and the Nayagi...
Then in her story she always stress some qualities about girls
1. she knows karate anything like that to save herself in emergency period
2. Selfconfident girl, ready to take up any jobs... unless and untill it is illeagel
3. Intelligent girl and able to handle the critical situation without losing temper..
so many good points like this.. we can note this and try to inculcate
For good time pass and good feeling I guess we can read RC's book
Can you all agreee with me
Bye for now
HAPPY GANESH CHATHURTHI....
Any tamil friends in Bombay who have joined in this forum???? egarly want to know

Friends,
Sivasankari's writngs are Postive and Constructive.
Lakshmi has more Sogam.
Ramani Chadran- Romantic, Positive but of high society only, but interesting for Time pass and can be read any number of times.
Indumathi- Variety.
