Tamils have few but important contribution in sports in india. Ramanathan & Ramesh Krishnan , amrtiaraj's in Tennis , V.Anand in chess , now Karthikeyan in motor sports and also atheletes, espesially in weightlifting have done relatively well at international levels though not super sucessfull.
On the contrary if we look at any team games like cricket or hockey , our players hardly get a chance to play, let alone prove their talent .... the only exception i find is of dhanraj pillay in hockey.
is it that lack of talent that prevents us from getting in to such field ? or is just that we are not team players.

Even D.Pillai didn't get proper place in our hockey team. :(

Typical example would be the Srilankan Cricket Team!
Except Murali and Russel Arnold, the rest ???

there is always suppression of talent when it comes to playing at national level.. Certain people can be really talented and still not make it to the national team.. Unlike individual sports, team sports need influence of certain people in every level...Money plays a huge part too.. Then there are people like L. Siva.. Siva was one talent who could have been the shane warne of India.. He spoiled himself getting into drinks and drugs.... My biggest disappointment was Sadagopan Ramesh who got dropped because of the selection politics... Ramesh was the perfect opener that India needed and still needs..

Ramesh did not impress atleast like what uthappa did. he was more like WV Raman edging and nudgin for his 96 against WI.
Why you folks dont talk a bout srikkanth. the ultimate blaster before tendulkar or sehwag was found.

lol @ uthappa... let him perform at the national level before we speak..
Here are Ramesh's stats.. He averaged 38 before he was dropped.. He never got a decent chance outside the subcontinent.. but just look at the scores before he was dropped.. he was playing pretty well and he got selected for the Aussies series as well.. Just because he himself opted out of one series, he was ignored by the selectors... He always gave a good start to the team, one that was needed with Dravid and Tendulkar to follow.. instead people like sanjay bangar, deep das gupta and now Gautam Gambhir get so many chances... Is that fair??

lol. sanjay bangar never impressed me. may be deep dasgupta wasnt a good keeper........ ashish chopra should have been played more. but we all need only 11 players so we cant accommodate all.
ramesh why did he opt out of aussie tour ? I remember him being kept in bench for whole australia tour. .......... or was it newzealand tour. his stats looks pretty good.
but one cannot forget his rock solid foot ( not rock solid foot work) which never moves.

when uthappa played he played convincingly. when he got out he did get out very convincingly. but to be optimistic i am seeing only the games he had played. but a player can have talent but if he exhibits kambli-ism then nobody can save him
