Attention please, Dog Owners

Well, I am planning to buy a dog soon. Can the respective dog owners give me tips as to what breed to buy, the food habits, care of the pet etc?

First of all, you have to ask yourself the questions below:
-why do you need a dog
-what type is your dwelling

That pretty much determines the breed (well, at least for me).

After the demise of our beloved cross breed, my family had deliberately adopted a mongrel from PAWS. That was 12 years ago.

Last year, we adopted a second one. She is about 6 months now and is the apple of our family.

The day we brought her back, we took her to the vet for her vaccinations and what not. Sindhu (that's her name) was given an appointment a month later for weight observation. The next appointment was given three months later, ie, last week for her heart worm medication. Apparently, heart worm is a deadly disease among dogs of all breed. Therefore, a monthly course is to be given for the next 11 months.

She is fed rice with dog food to keep her weight under control.
