View Full Version : Padmashree Dr. Kamal Haasan's Rama Shyama Bhama

Ramesh Arvind makes his directorial debut in the Kannada film Rama Shyama Bhama, a remake of the Tamil hit Sathi Leelavathi.
The movie has got rave reviews after the preview shows and apparently, its not a frame by frame remake of the original. The highlight of the movie is Dr Sir's Hubli accent, something which even a Kannada actor wouldn't be able to pull of easily.
Bangalore is a fort for Kamal fans and following in the tracks of Virumaandi and Vasool Raja [a garland costing around Rs. 1.5 lakh was placed over a gaint cut out], the fans are celebrating the release in their typical incomparable style.
Hubbers like Cinefan, Jaiganes, Vallavar, myself will be watching the movie in a few days time in Bangalore and others are also welcome.

I have not laughed so much
Indiaglitz [Thursday, December 08, 2005]
"I have not laughed so much in my life". This film 'Rama Shama
Bhama' is a treatment to all couples in our society said the
Jnanapeeth award winner Dr.U.R.Ananthamurthy after seeing the
film 'Rama Shama Bhama' with his wife Esther at Rejoyz Digital
Auditorium in Malleswaram Bangalore.
Sitting next to Dr.Kamal Hassan, Dr.U.R.Ananthamurthy said Kamal
Hassan is India's complete actor. He can become anything on Indian
screen. Ramesh has done the direction very well and he has left lot
of promises from this film observed Dr.UR Ananthamurthy. This is the
genuine, real and modern film because some of the developments shown
on screen are what we also do in our society frankly admitted
Dr.URA. By looking at this type of film we have to forget our
seriousness or dignity he disclosed.
Dr.Kamal Hassan addressing the mammoth attendance of the media said
Rama Shama Bhama is a film made smoothly with smile always. Some of
the big films today lack these two elements while making. The credit
for this mainly goes to Ramesh Aravind, I have got something to
learn from him. He has the tricks to keep everyone in good
condition. This is what I have to learn in my makings observed the
respected actor of Indian screen Kamal Hassan. Producer Manju is
daring. He has that ability to leave everything on us and lean back.
Perhaps he has under estimated that we would do 'Sathi Leelavathi'
exactly but he was proved wrong. Ramesh Aravind had rewritten the
script and done a different screenplay. That is why 'Rama Shama
Bhama' looks different and fresh opined Kamal Hassan.
Actress Shruthi and Daisy Boppanna expressed that it is their great
privilege to work with Kamal Hassan. Shruthi requested Kamal Hassan
to accept more Kannada films in future.
The cynosure of all eyes today in Kannada filmdom Ramesh Aravind
thanked Kamal Hassan primarily because is the main stay of this
film. For this beautiful moment of my life Kamal Hassanji is
responsible opined Ramesh Aravind. The courage given by producer
K.Manju is important felt Ramesh.[/tscii:4a5b372a6e]

Kamal's movies are mosly scripts that can be shot @ any point in time.
Kuruthi Punal can be shot now, or even in another 10 years. Same with Hey Ram, Anbe Sivam, Virumaandi and Guna.
I think that most good directors and script writes come up with scripts that are not just part of the trend, so they have a longer life. :)

FUNTASTIC TREAT
Triple Worth For Your Ticket Money
Film Review :RAMA SHAMA BHAMAI
Film Review by -CNB
Date - 13th December 2005 Time - 6.00 AM
Banner - Lakshmisri Combines
Producer - K.Manju
Direction - Ramesh Aravind
Music - Gurukiran
Camera - P.K.H.Das
Cast - Kamal Hassan, Ramesh Aravind, Urvashi, Shruthi, Daisy
Boppanna, Anirudh, Dattanna, Yashwanth and others.
RAMA SHAMA BHAMA - is the currently prescribed best tonic for
laughing. All the laughing clubs in Bangalore and elsewhere can take
a long vacation and reach the theatres. In addition to a laugh riot
the film touches your heart. Perfect handling of the subject and its
narration by Ramesh, excellent performances from Kamal Hassan,
Urvashi, Shruthi, Ramesh Aravind and Daisy Boppanna makes this film
outstanding.
It is said laughter is the best medicine in the world. So what for
you are waiting? Get ready to watch this film without fail. The
engineering brain of Ramesh Aravind is in tact. He has made
workaholic preparation and kept the mood of the film. He has adapted
a new technique in narration. The introduction of characters is
superb. He has shown how important it is to keep the high level in
narration and dialogues. His linking, sinking, matching and
selecting is too good in 'Rama Shama Bhama'.
While laughing through out the film you will know the truth. Ramesh
Aravind knows how to give the injection without pain. This injection
is of high standard. Every scene is carefully handled.
The reason why Ramesh Aravind has turned out very successful is
because of the ideal caste couch and technicians he has selected.
When an actor like Kamal Hassan is ready in front of you it is one
of the finest opportunities. That has been very well utilized by the
gentleman actor who has turned director from RSB.
Another area where it occupies importance is the dialogues by
Yashwanth Sardeshpande. The comedy entertainers of course live on
histrionics and timings but what become very demanding is the apt
dialogues.
In the fourth estate there is a principle - "No story is written but
it is rewritten" before going to print. Ramesh Aravind has exactly
done it. He has rewritten the earlier versions in Tamil 'Sathi
Leelavathy' and 'Biwi No 1' in Hindi. Added fresh blood to the
muscles and made a rib tickling 'Rama Shama Bhama'.
If you miss this film you will be missing something worthwhile. Our
observation after watching this film is that Ramesh Aravind is
capable of handling a straight subject with more tidiness and taut
narration.
Rama and Shama (Ramesh Aravind and Kamal Hassan) are long time
friends. Shama catches up with Rama after a long time at the airport
on his way to Goa. Rama and Shama are just opposites in their
nature. Rama uttering a lie is with Priya at the airport. He is
caught moving with Priya but covering up suspect Shama. Rama while
lifting Priya in the bedroom receives a joint pain and the available
doctor in the hotel is called in. That is Shama the gynecologist in
the bedroom of Rama where Priya is also staying. Shama gives an
injection and also inject that the wrong doing is bad to Rama.
Rama is careless in his movements with Priya. The suspicion rise
high level in the house of Rama. His wife Bhama follows her husband
Rama. After clever duping in a few occasions Rama is caught while he
is holding the hip of Priya in an apartment. The war of words in the
house breaks up the minds. Rama stages a walk out and starts living
in Priya apartment that is what he has given her for living. Bhama
bounce back at Ram by sending her children, cows maintained in the
house and the cute darling (dog). Ram father also come to live here.
The peace of Priya is perturbed now. In a small accident the
children of Ram are responsible for curtains catching fire that
enrages the screaming Priya. The children and father of Ram leave
this place to live with Bhama. Bhama calculates a new scheme now. At
this time she comes to know Priya was liked immensely by Raja
(Anirudh). She urge for Shama to come to her help to teach a lesson
to her husband.
What is that plan, how the value of wife again tops the chart. You
have to watch. Whether it is money or pure love important the
youngsters know from it. The elders, the married ones know very
strongly in the climax that 'Katkondolu Kade Thanaka, Itkondolu Hana
Iro thanaka' (wife is the one who gives you pure affection till last
breath and the set up is there till the affluence last).
Kamalji you are incomparable. You have shown the great degree of
skill, proper timing, good dialogue you have delivered is definitely
be a talk of the town. You have given able support to our boy Ramesh
Aravind. Urvashi you deserve any award that is running at present at
Indian subcontinent.
Shruthi shows she is capable of delivering when good roles are given
to her. Daisy you are like an instant spice of MTR. You have that
ability and attitude of going cool on screen. Ramesh Aravind is at
his usual best. Dattanna is apt selection.
Gurukiran's two tunes are lovely. The song Raathri Aythu Jopana…..,
is applicable for the thickly populated countries like India and
China. This reminds the spouses from how they have to be careful in
cutting down the population. Knowingly or unknowingly Ramesh Aravind
has done a novel selection of this song.
When all these things have come superb the camera by Das is also the
high scoring point. He is like Mahendra Dhoni - flashy and catchy.
Take the entire family to this family. If your family is too big
contact Lakshmisri Combines to arrange for bunch of tickets.

Review
By Moviebuzz
Hero Kamal Hassan and director Ramesh Aravind have joined hands to make this laugh riot that has lived up to its high expectations. And the surprise packet of the film is Urvashi with her perfect comedy timing and dialogue delivery, as she steals the show.
Cartoonist Rama (Ramesh) meets a vivacious Priya (Daisy Bopanna) and he is attracted to her and soon their friendship turns into an affair. Rama is married to Bhama (Urvasi), and has two children but lies to Priya that he is a bachelor. Trouble begins when he meets his buddy Dr Shyam (Kamal Haasan) and his wife Shanthi (Shruthi) at the airport on the way to Goa for a holiday.
But soon Bhama and Rama’s dad comes to know about Priya and the couple split. Rama prefers to stay with Priya in the house that he brought for her. Bhama the conservative wife turns courageous and sends her children, their pet dog, cow, and father-in-law to Rama's house. Priya’s privacy and beautiful apartment turns into a hell and she packs everyone back.
Soon Priya meets her ex-boy friend Raja and the rest of the film is about how Bhama and Dr Shyam work out a plan to bring Rama back to his wife and children. RSB, a remake of the Tamil film Sathi Leelavathi (later remade in Hindi as Biwi No 1), is a lot different from its original in terms of narration and the treatment of the story.
Kamal Hassan has scored full marks with Hubli- Dharwad accent and perfect histrionics required for a comedy riot. The hilarious scenes at the airport toilet, inside the flight, the hotel room in Goa, the restaurant and many others are superb. Urvashi is perfect foil for Kamal with ample support from Ramesh, Sruthi and Daisy. Camera of P K H Das and catchy dialogues by Yeshwanth Sardeshpande are added attractions.
Songs by Guru Kiran are good. Raathri Ayuthi Jopana…. sung by Kamal Hassan is the pick of the album.
Verdict: Laugh Riot[/tscii:161aa50a39]

Rama Shama Bhama" is a laugh riot, which marks Kamal Hassan's return to the Kannada screen after 18 years. It is also the directorial debut of noted actor Ramesh Aravind. The film is a remake of the Tamil film "Sati Leelavati" with some minor changes in the script. Both Kamal and Ramesh play the roles they did in the original. The cast also includes Urvashi, Sruthi and Daisy Bopanna ("Garam Masala" fame). "Rama Shama Bhama", released last week, has taken a fantastic opening all over Karnataka with Kamal's Hubli-Dharwad accent and Urvashi's performance being the highlights. The songs tuned by Gurukiran are all hits with a number sung by Kamal himself being the pick of the album

The evening of Saturday the 17th of Dec 2005 turned out to be quite an interesting one not just because I got to watch a very good film like RSB but also for the first time ever met people whom I had got to know thro' the WWW.
The venue was INOX,Garuda Mall,B'lore&the people were Jaiganesh(with his wife)&A_A- from this hub.
I had a mental image of both these guys formed thro' their postings but they turned out to be quite different.A_A for all the aggression he shows(esp in his blog)is quite a shy chap while Jai is more down to earth compared to his postings  (No offence meant Jai).
BTW,A_A has a terrific/terrorizing 'Welcome tune'on his mobile :D
Coming to the movie,I have seen 'Sati Leelavathi' 6 to 7 times but still enjoyed every moment of RSB.The screenplay follows the same pattern of the original but improvizations thrown along the way are brilliant. Also the dialogues by Yeshwanth Saradeshpande&Rajendra Kamath are very good&more importantly original, not translated from Crazy's brilliant lines from SL.Music suits the movie, camerawork gives the film a much needed 'rich'look&as in most Kamal films the supporting artists never put a foot wrong.
Ramesh does justice to his dual roles of actor/director&credit should be given to him for doing a remake as good as the original.
Daisy Bopanna beats Heera in acting, looks&figure :P while Sruthi is no Kovai Sarala but still does a very competent job.
Urvashi is a tremendous talent&crackles on screen esp if Kamal is around(Competitiveness??).This film is no exception. Her kannada is damn good, she gives the role many shades&do I have to mention about her comic timing? His performance is miles ahead of what her sis did in the original.
Finally Kamal, man what an actor. 8-) All those who complain that his comedies are becoming repetitive should watch this movie. He is a riot that too in an alien language. His Kannada diction is unbelievably perfect though the Hubli-Dharwad accent could have been better(a very minor crib). He&Urvashi just run away with the movie in the last half an hour.I can go the extent of saying that with this film he once again proves that when it comes to acting he is The Boss.
