Apart from the well known KAALAI NERA KAATRE the album had some gems like

Exactly. Problem is, I don't think directors these days will let him do that. But it would be awesome if he could go back to that style. Take the interludes of "Paruvame"... IMO the second interlude of "Paruvame" could be one of his best interludes ever.

konjam sound engineering padichu iruntha namma ellam sernthu ithu mathiri oru project pannalaam pola :)The main difficulty I found was the difference in the sound quality of the different files. This affects the transitions the most. Its unfortunate that there are no real good quality recordings of many of these gems. I played around with the compression, amplification, pitch adjustment etc. on audacity to get some uniformity.. but konjam vishayam therinja innum nalla varalaam..
It doesn't look like IR is going to come up with another HTNI or NBW, so its upto us to make one from his existing interludes :)

i happened to watch Balu Mahendra's "Un kannil neer vazhindhaal" - very mature way of narrating a story, with some lovely cinematography and ample justice to IR's "malare malare" and 'kannil yenna" - hmmm, right from the beginning, IR has been giving music depending on the quality of the movie - for BM's or Mahendran's movies, there are no bombastic scores, but absolutely subtle motifs and orchestrations - the title scores of Nenjathai Killadhey or UKNV are best examples!

Surprised. The quality of coolgoose songs are improved. Long back when I downloaded songs from this website most of them used to be of very low quality, which in turn made the best of best song to be sounded like low grade song. So I stoped downloading the songs then on from coolgoose website.

Hey guys,

check out this torrent sharing site. One guy has really taken pain in compiling Raaja's tamil songs and is uploading the complete collection he has (around 650 movies). (The good part is he has also tagged the songs which i was hoping to do one day and was never able to :( hats off to that HCIRF :cool2: ) Please register into this site and go to tamil music section where he is hosting the songs and download your hearts content.
Looking at the jpg image of the folder he had i was amazed whether its my ownfolder :lol: but carefully scrutinizing i found he does has some of the movies which i too am missing.
Just go in and clear off 15 GB of HDD space in your PC's and start downloading and reseeding. With increased traffic i hope we all can download the full collection at the earliest.

When you go to the thread you can find a file there with extension *.torrent you have to download that file and save it in your system.
For downloading a torrent you have to install any of the free softwares available in net like Azureus, bittorrent or flashget etc., ( do a google search for torrent and you will get many links for the software. I use azureus or flashget).
Now open the small torrent file you had already downloaded into your system with the software installed. It will ask for the place whre to save etc., give the details and start downloading :) you can also exclude the songs you have by picking them before downloading.

this film contains four songs. here I present 2 songs only. these 2 songs are mind blowing(uyirai karaikkum) and very nice. one by Unni menon another by Susheela. but important thing is title music and this piano sonato is comparable with beethovan's and chopin's(its true). what can I say about love-theme and another theme music, nothing. raaja raaja thaan. hear this piano sonato and give comments. No one comparable with Raaja (after hearing this piece, u will surely accept). enjoy.I don't have much time to write. I will write about raaja soonly. bye.

hats off..!!! u got me the songs "kannana kanney" and "anbedhan thaayanadhu", both by Chithra. I thought the lovely melody "anbedhan" song is by SJ. "anbedhan" is from "thambikku oru paatu" right? and which movie is the the wonderful melody-with-tinge-of-sadness one "kannana kanney"?

however, the "dhoori dhoori" is the pathos one which is already available at cooltoad. i need (and i guess everyone is still looking for) the SJ (happy) version.

I recently came to know there was a don/billa remake in telugu in 1979 titled 'Yugandhar' in which NTR acted in the lead role :roll: and Raaja composed the music for the movie. This was his first direct telugu and only movie for NTR i presume.

This was a shock for me listening 'Ye Rabba vesukunna' which is a blatant lift from 'Kaike Paan banaras waala' :cry: Usually Raaja just gets inspired and takes cue from the original and composes in his own way. But here is song which is a lift from tune/BGM and everything. Apart from 'Kanavu kaanum' This becomes a complete lift and interestingly both songs are composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

i've read long time back that IR had to oblige to the producer/actor since he had no hold/control over the tunes selection (as he did have in the 80s). i also think that u cant call that a 'lift' if it is a remake unless it is used in a different movie. (we all know how BM was the main reason why "kanavu kaanum" was used, despite IR's resistance).

If such soundtrack has IR as the MD (i.e. without acknowledging the original) then it is HIS lift! If there is acknowledgement (like in the case of remix, 'pazhaya pAdal pOla, pudhiya pAdal illai'), then we can dwell in the circumstances. Otherwise, let's accept it as a lift (and not too much worry about why he had to do it etc.)

We are talking about a film MD here who had to lift to survive / become popular, whatever the circumstances were (and however classy composer he may be). I don't agree to two different yardsticks for Raja and others in calling a lift a lift.

Having said that, his greatness is measured today by his original works and unique contibutions and not each and everyone of his film songs (though the greatness is brought down a little bit every now and then by such revelations)...

You are right... there is a vague similarity especially with the rising tempo in the middle. Yet, Flashdance theme didn't lift the senses the way MR did. :)

Ananth222, thanks a million for the songs! Like many, I was searching for these songs as well for a very long time. Due to time constraint, I dont visit this thread really much. But thanks to my curiosity to know what is happening in this thread (Sharing BGM) that I discovered these albums.

I have always compared S.Janaki and Asha Bhosle for some similarities in their voices and style of singing. Wondering if IR as well observed it. He used Asha Bhosle for tamil version and SJ for hindi version!!

So, Mohd. Aziz also has sung for IR. Remember IR saying that Mohd. Rafi was one of his favourite singer. Probably its a reason to use Mohd. Aziz.

I agree that most of the flute pieces is very southie IR style.

"Dilwale" song is really good song for the funky tune and interludes. I feel even today, if its played (as it is ... not rehashed), it has potential to be a bit.

Hi Plum,

Not sure about their availability on the web but you can get the audio tape in Bangalore. There is a tape which has three movies in it,'Mathu Tappadha Maga' and 'Pallavi Anupallvi' being two of them. Excellent songs. So if you have someone in Bangalore ask them to look for this.

The other film on the tape, I think it is called 'Barjari Beta' (not sure) is probably avoidable :)

Scene Description: The hero lives in a delusional world thinking himself as lord Shiva and waiting for getting married to 'Abhirami' [Another name of goddess parvathi]. His uncle tries using Guna's skill of opening any kind of lock to rob from a temple and brings him to temple on the pretext that Abhirami will come there. Guna keeps nagging him when will Abhirami come and when will they get married. His uncle in a mood of anger tells him that she will come in a procession like this, showing an ongoing procession. Guna looks at the heroine for the first time and imagining her as Abhirami falls in love instantly.

Philips has launched a product 'Ripper', which allows you to directly convert cassettes to mp3. The have an USB slot, wherein you need to plug your USB stick. Play the tape and press a button and the conversion happens to mp3. This costs around Rs.4,999/- on retail but dealers give it to you for Rs.4,700/-. A nice gadget if you have lot of tapes.

SEASON-Malayalam
This movie will be a challenge to any other composer always :) I can not find a equivalent song from any other composer to 'Poi Varu' from this movie. Can we call this a song at all?!! Very recently i watched the movie and was amazed at the BGM and songs from this movie.
The movie revolves around the drug trafficking and usage along the coast of kovalam in the early 80's a leftover from the hippie culture.
Raaja's music captures this theme and background at its best. Apart from these 2 songs there are very many other instances of BGM's which does justice to the movie. will try to upload those scenes soon... till then here is Season for you :)

Recently when I made a visit to 'Kozhikode' Vazhakkam pola Music shopsa Eri erangi thaedina bodhu I got hold of a MP3 Collection of Raaja, which had songs from 'OruYaathraMozhi'... A wait as long as 7 years was answered now :) I had always known that it had a song of the legendary MSV singing for Raaja, I didnt know then that there is also a version of Raaja singing same song....Double santhosham :D. Its good to note that how the voice of both singers tranforms the song to different plane of moods! MSV's version has more 'Oalam' in it While Raaja's version has more 'Soagam' in it!

Maybe you are aware of this but let me state this for the benefit of those who are looking for Illayaraja's music in Malayalam films. The site http://www.punchapaadam.com/ has lot of songs from Malayalam movies for which Raja had scored music. I got some rare songs from movies lie 'Dooram Arike', 'Unaroo' etc from this site.

'Oru Yatra Mozhi' is one of my favourite albums and I was lucky enough to buy it when it was released. The song you mentioned in MSV's voice and also Illayaraja's voice is an excellent one. 'Manjeeradhawani' is a nice album as well. In the 90s I like 'Friends' a lot and am looking for the CD.

BTW, the VCD of 'Oru Yathra Mozhi' was available at Planet M in Brigade Road, Bangalore. So was the Maniratnam movie 'Unaroo'.

Today I heard one tamil song of Raja. It is similar to "Matarani Mounamidi" song from Telugu movie "Maharshi" sung by SPB & SJ. But I couldn't catch the tamil version properly

The one I heard today (tamil version sung by SPB) has the same pallivi and charanam, but different interludes. Could anybody point me the movie title , and mp3 version.
