A funny way of looking at Dharmapuri

If you are still in Diwali mood, please don't read the following review,

After contributing to the major downfall of Ajith's tirupathi, its director..per ..per ..perarasu....he was thinking who could he terminate next and ..yes....he got our captain and that's the evolution of a legendary universal(tamil) film "DHARMAPURI"...

Precautionary steps to watch this film:

1.Four pieces of cotton...(2 to keep in ears...and the rest 2 will be kept in our noses after we watch the film fully)

2. zandu balm,tiger balm..if possible original time bomb.

3. itch guard (b'cos paadhi padam paarthu namaku udambellam pull'arikum').

Actors:

Captain Vijaykanth(3/4 screen...),Heroine-achacho paavam(not even 4 scenes including songs),comedy..all scenes where captain comes becomes comedy to the core.

All other vetti actors(donno what they do ½ time).

Moments of the film:

1.Captain's intro:----- NO Indian..oops..hollywood film could ever try such imagination to project his hero to this level as perarasu does.(u deserve an applause..).while all his partymen,wait for his entry in screen..there comes captain to save a minister's girl from a rowdy in rameswaram..rowdy threatens everyone including policemen nearby with his gun and no one goes near him(obvious..)Captain looks at him,goes nearhim barehanded. The rowdy warns him 3 times(Indian cinema rule..not more than 3) and then shoots at him..the bullet hits vijaykanth's chest...and reflects back and hits the rowdy's chest and kills him...Please wait...don't get astonished.then he takes out the "archanai plate"he hid in his shirt(what a archanai thattu..if u can get for 10 rs.it acts as bullet proof and save ur life).

Advice to all military forces:please dismantle all ur bullet proof shields and get archanai thattu's for them. cost cutting one.

2 if time permits captain gets his costume change and start performing exercises..iam sorry..dances.. and 30 to 40 dancers surround him and shout"neenga thaan nallavar, neenga thaan vallavar, neenga naaliku CM, morning na AM,evening na PM"...happa horrible torture and where on earth his costumes are picked up...fluorescent coloured shirt specially and he makes to a point that in all scenes including his duet or romantic scene his party's "flaming torch"symbol is projected well.And a grand make up like rajkiran with a big crown on his head and sandal on his body(weak hearted people pls omit the scene)

3. Half the film is like assembly meetings and virudhachalam campaign speeches.and everybody including the villain praises him .

"naan adangi poravan illai adakitu poravan"

"ivaru kootani vaika maatar,thani aala thaan irupaar"

"ennai nambuna nambikai..mathavangalukku etcharikai

ivar naadodi illai....naadodi mannan"..

When u atleast rest in peace that the director Perarasu didn't act in this film as he did in tirupathi....after interval even that dream goes crashed..oops.here we have his entry as "Speed"lawyer perarasu.he comes and says"naan porandha edam sivakasi, valarandha idam tirupachi, pona idam tirupathi,ipo nikaradhu dharmapuri"innum neraya idam poven....(oh god we are done for...mokkanayakanur,paanaampati,paradesipalayam.. lots to come ). Soon he will become best competitor of T rajendhar.

Note:- don't miss the scene where captain hits 50 men in a row with a single kick which even matrix Keanu reaves couldn't get it right. And also the scene where captain blasts 1000 figure bombs(kanni vedi.he..he) with his small remote control which we use for MP3 players in car's.(technology drives...)

Iam sorry guys(?????)I didn't see the climax, I came away ½ hr before climax as I was in a mood to hit my head somewhere and cry badly seeing this.

Last but not least "Dharma puri"---poisonous pani puri. Die another day.

[tscii:7a0b875527]After Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikesi’s success, come dian Vadivelu’s status as a hero has risen considerably. But very few know that the man behind Vadivelu’s success in films is Thambi Ramayya who pens the unusual scripts.

Now according to close sources, though many people are waiting with scripts to get a nod from Vadivelu, it is Ramayya who was able to convince him with his unique idea of remaking the 1956 blockbuster comedy Rambayin Kadhal.

This a mythological story with social theme. In the original version, veteran actress Bhanumathy played the title role of Ramba and late comedian Thangavelu had acted opposite her.

Sources also reveal that Vadivelu has seen the original movie and currently, Thambi Ramayya is improvising the script to suit the audience’s tastes. According to sources, Vadivelu has been offered a whopping but yet to be disclosed amount for the role. Producer Rajagopal has already acquired the rights to remake Rambayin Kadhal.

The technical crew from Imsai.. — music directors Sabesh–Murali, art director Krishnamoorthy, cinematographer Arthur Wilson will be seen in action in this film too.

According to mythology, Ramba is the dancer in Lord Indra’s court, who lives in Amravati, the capital of the gods and goddesses located on Mount Meru. She is very beautiful and her hourglass figure is captivating. Ramba is popularly known as the ‘Daughter of Delight.’ Keeping this in mind, the director wants a Bollywood actress to play the female lead and according to the grape vine, Shilpa Shetty has been approached to act opposite Vadivelu. The other actresses who appear among their choice for the heroine are Urmila Matondkar and Isha Koppikar.[/tscii:7a0b875527]

No more caravans!

Seems like the grandiosity and the lavishness that the lead stars showcase in movies will be limited to the screen and to their personal lives and not in the sets at the cost of the producer. In an attempt to curb the production expenses, there will be no more excessive spending and pampering of actors for their star status. The producers say that he who pays the piper calls the tune.

In an effort to slash the production costs, the Producers Council and Nadigar Sangam have jointly announced certain effective cost cutting measures, which include depriving the stars of the caravan facility. No caravans will be provided – if the sets have the facility of a make up room – for the stars at the cost of the producer here on. However, the stars are permitted to use their own to commute to the sets. Some lead stars in the industry including Namitha and Trisha own a caravan of their own.

If you wonder, what is it that the caravan has that burns a hole in the producers’ pocket, we have the answer. A caravan is a plush roomy wagon that houses all the amenities including a green room and all the facilities for entertainment on the wheels.
Apart from that, the lead ladies imported from Mumbai or other parts of the country will not be placed in the comfort of five star hotels. Instead, they will be made to stay in three star hotels.

Well, with all those efforts, let us hope that the producers will direct the additional savings derived out of the cost effective measures in producing good movies. And we have the authority to dream, what say?

Jeevan to star with five heroines
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 05, 2006]

Jeevan will share the screen with five popular heroines in Kollywood for his next movie.

The villain-cum-hero in Tamil cinema, who shot to fame with the role of a baddie in Kaakha Kaakha, is playing the lead role in the remake of yesteryear classic Naan Avanillai.

The movie would be produced by noted film distributor Japak. He has reportedly acquired the remake rights of the yesteryear classic featuring Gemini Ganesan in the lead role.

The new version will have Jeevan in the role of Gemini Ganesan. It is an extension of the role played by Jeevan in his Thiruttu Payalae. He plays a womanizer.

The original version starred five actresses in it. In the remake, five prominent actresses have been cast including Sneha and Namitha. The third is Malavika, who acted with Jeevan in Thiruttu Payale. The fourth and fifth are Jothirmayi who was introduced in Thalainagaram, and Kirti Chawla.

Battle royal for Pongal

Battle lines are drawn for Pongal. It would be a cracker of contest on the festive day when the movies featuring Ajith, Vijay, Vijayakanth and Jeyam Ravi are expected to make it to the theatres.

According to reports, Vijay's Pokiri directed by Prabhu Deva is tipped for a Pongal release. A remake of the Telugu hit Pokiri, expectations are high on the movie.

Ajith’s Aalwar would be released on the same day. The producer nursed a desire of releasing it in early December. But now it seems he has opted for a release in January, 2007 itself since Ajith’s Varalaru is still drawing good crowds.

The shooting of Jeyam Ravi's Deepavali is happening with full zing. Directed by Ezhil and produced by director Lingusamy, the movie has Jeyam Ravi and Bhavana in prominent roles. It is expected to release this January.

The latest to join the race is Vijayakanth. His Sabari, directed by Suresh and produced by Salem Chandrasekhar, is releasing on Pongal day.

Vikram's Bheema might also make it for Pongal.

Remember those days when the Tamil screens were ruled by countryside romances with irresistible songs and not to forget the first time ever hero was portrayed as a Tamil cowboy? Ramarajan immediately comes to mind when one thinks of village romances. He was in the line of Rajini and Kamal during those days.

However – as tinsel town has it – success is subjective only to the number of hits.

Ramarajan eventually lost his market and was never able to regain it until now. His attention diverted to politics, which did him no good either. The actor who was often prefixed with the title ‘Gramathu Nayagan’ (Village Hero) is currently undergoing ayurvedic treatment in Kerala to treat his facial muscles, which suffered a stroke recently.

Ramarajan, a former MP of AIADMK partook in numerous campaigns organized by the party. He suffered from a mild paralytic stroke attack recently, which damaged his facial muscles. Having obtained divorce from his actor wife Nalini, Ramarajan leads a solitary life.

Tamil stunt talent in Hollywood

Looks like our in-house talents have become quite a rage in Hollywood. The outsourcing wave has brought Indian talents to the limelight. Earlier it was animation for movies such as Shrek and Click, now it seems Hollywood is eager to try its hands in choreographing stunt scenes with our stunt masters. Noted stunt master Kanal Kannan has been roped in for the Hollywood movie First Fire.

Produced by Paul Nicolas, First Fire has Sean Patrick and Rehan Elizabeth in the lead. Kanal composed stunts for the movie, the shoots of which are being carried out in and around Goa and Mumbai.

Speaking about the offer Kanal Kannan says: ‘They obtained my information from the Internet and approached me to direct Indian stunts such as Sword Fight and Kambu Sandai for the movie’. They are quite happy with me and as a result I am directing stunt sequences for their two more movies for which I am flying to South Africa soon, added Kannan.

Here is wishing Kanal to rock in Hollywood as well.

Tamilnadu Chief Minister Dr.Karunanidhi has slashed the ticket rates across the state.This law will come to effect from the New Years day. In a press release from the CM office it states that the ticket rates for an air-conditioned theatre in cities should not exceed beyond 50 rupees. This order comes after the producer council members met the CM to express their concern on the piracy issues.

The members also brought to the notice of CM the high ticket price in the theatres for the first two weeks of the movie release which keeps the crowd out. Theatres in Chennai charge more than 100 Rupees in the first two weeks of a new release (this is an understatement). Hearing their grievances Chief Minister has also slashed the law that allows the theatre owners to increase the ticket rates on their own for the first two weeks which was imposed by the previous AIADMK government. The producer council also thanked the Chief Minister for his support to the film Industry. Now that the Government has laid the laws, will the theatres follow it?

The Tamilnadu government has issued an order slashing the ticket rates at cinema theatres across the state effective from Jan 1, 2007!

Today morning (20 Dec) the Tamil Film Producer’s Council (TFPC) under its president Ramanarayanan met Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi at his residence in Gopalapuram. They had enlightened the Chief Minister that even after waiving the entertainment tax, common man is unable to benefit as ticket rates are very high especially in cities.

Added to that the earlier government had allowed cinemas halls to increase the ticket rates of any film in its first two weeks of release. Hence theatres were charging Rs 100 to Rs 200 for almost all Tamil films which according to TFPC discouraged the common man to visit cinema halls and instead encouraged piracy! At Rs 30 an entire family was able to watch a film in their homes with a pirated CD!

Hearing their grievances, Karunanidhi immediately revoked the law that allowed theatres to increase ticket rates in the first two weeks! Now a uniform rate has been prescribed for all theatres whether they show new/old films!

From Jan 1, 2007 the new ticket rates in Cities (Chennai, Coimbatore, and other corporations) are-

Air conditioned theatre
Highest rate will be Rs 50!
10 percent of total seats at lowest rates-Rs 10.

Non a/c theatre- Highest rate Rs 30
10 percent of total seats at lowest rates-Rs 5.

Smaller centres

B stations- Air conditioned theatres highest rate Rs 40.
10 percent of total seats at lowest rates -Rs 5.
Tamilnadu government by reducing ticket rates has won over the hearts of the common man. But already a major crisis is brewing in Tamil film industry.

Suriya, Srikanth, Gautham Menon all joined hands to launch the 'Fuel Card' at the Sathyam Cinema complex in Chennai.

Fuel is a pre-paid movie card to watch movies at Sathyam Cinemas.

The card can be used for buying tickets online or at ticket counters and for purchasing food and beverages at concession counters at the multiplex.

The Fuel starter pack, costing Rs.300, contains a pre-paid card worth Rs.250.

Fuel cards can be recharged in increments of Rs.100.

Fuel cards can be used instead of credit cards for all transactions at Sathyam Cinemas.

As part of the 150 years celebration of Chennai police to be celebrated on the first week of January, the city police is now producing a short film at a cost of Rs 10 lakh to enhance its presence in a novel way.

Along with the prime stars of the tinsel world like Kamal Haasan, Nasser, Asin, Commissioner Letika Saran and certain other top officials are to act in the movie.

The film is being directed by director Ilavarasan and produced by Abirami Ramanathan and the shooting is taking place in and around the city.

Instead of watching a film on a very poor print for Rs 30 on VCD, now they are going to watch it for Rs 50 in theatre and that too with air conditioner...

good logical move! lets see what the piracy mongers do now!

why is the industry in a crisis? this could prove beneficial. are the theatre owners part of the industry? if no, then the theatre owners need to worry about it. but i would say they can now run a movie for a longer time.. would also be easier for movies to now run for long periods of time in theatres. and when people who watch movies on pirated video come to theatres, its going to benefit them in the long run!

making movies more accessible to the common man and to the public, is what is important!

my opinion is, the actors wont budge from their salaries. its the technicians, small time artists who are going to suffer. and now, every other person wont dream of becoming a producer. only those who are really well financially strong will venture into making movies.

Even before Sathyaraj's Periyar is released, the actor has started to attract the attention of the rationalists in the State.

Sathyaraj has been chosen for the annual 'Periyar' award to be presented the by the Tamil Nadu government as part of their efforts to propagate rationalist ideas among the masses.

The award which carries Rs one lakh cash and a gold chain would be presented to Sathyaraj on 27 January at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai, by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

The award is being presented to Sathyaraj for accepting to do the role of Periyar without getting remuneration.

A press release on Sunday Dec 31, said that Chief Minister Karunanidhi has made some revision in ticket rates for the Multiplexes. The state government has revised the ceiling for ticket rates after considering the plea of owners of multiplexes.

Fans who were waiting to see films at Rs 50 in Chennai city theatres especially at Sathyam Cinemas and at Rs 15 in Mayaajal are sure to be disappointed. It was just a dream as the state government had to bow to pressure from exhibitors. Actually theatres in Chennai city and Chengalpet area are the major beneficiaries, the highest collecting centre for Tamil films.

Some specified norms have been set for multiplexes-that there should be two or more air-conditioned halls with seating capacity of 800 plus a 41.5 inch gap between two rows of seats, 100 percent power back up, digital projection, air-conditioned lobbies, computerized ticketing etc.

This means in Chennai city Sathyam Cinemas and Devi complex can charge Rs 95 and a minimum of Rs 10 (for 10 percent seating capacity). The other complexes like Albert, Woodlands, Sangam, Ega, Shanti can charge a high of Rs 85 and a minimum of Rs 10. Meanwhile single screens like Melody, Casino, Pilot, Anna, Kamala, Bharat, Maharani, AVM Rajeswari and others can charge only Rs 50 and 10. In a way Sathyam and Devi can heave a sigh of relief while losers will be single screens.

But the biggest gainers of this rate revision are Abhirami, and Mayajaal which are entertainment malls as they have additional features including food courts. They can charge Rs 120 and minimum of Rs 10. Added to that it is a big boost to the upcoming INOX, the four-screen multiplexes at City centre in Radhakrishna Salai, Chennai which will now opens for Pongal 2007.

Prasanth's wife reveals her sob story

New Delhi: The wife of popular Tamil actor Prasanth, who has not been staying with him for a year, on Tuesday filed a petition in a family court against him.

She is seeking the court to direct Prasanth to pay an amount of Rs 1 lakh a month as interim maintenance for herself, her infant son and towards litigation expenses.

In her petition, P D Grihalakshmi contended that her in-laws had told her to go to her parents' house on January 2, 2006 when it was found that she was in the family way.

Claiming the news of her conception was not welcomed by her in-laws, she said the doctors had advised her complete bed rest as she had developed a dermoid cyst.

Grihalakshmi also alleged that her in-laws did not help her cope with the difficult pregnancy.

She contended that right from the moment of her marriage, her in-laws were never satisfied with the dowry given and continued making demands for more.

Grihalakshmi says that she had to incur expenses of about Rs 1 lakh a month during her pregnancy, which was paid by her father. Besides, he had also paid Rs 2 lakh as charges for removing and testing the cyst, she contended.

The aggrieved wife said that even after the baby was born, no one came to see the child. She claimed she had sent several e-mails and letters to her husband but received no response.

Till date, none had even cared to find out whether she had the means to look after the child, she alleged.

Grihalakshmi claimed her husband could afford to pay her Rs 1 lakh as maintenance as he was earning "Rs 1 crore from each film he acted in, besides income earned from his production house and anchoring television programmes, among other avenues".

Prashant had filed a petition on December 20, seeking restitution of conjugal rights and permission to see his son. His petition is pending in the family court.

Welcome back 'mike' Mohan

A couple of decades ago, he was affectionately called the silver jubilee hero in Tamil cinema. All his films went on to become blockbusters and songs in his films went on to audio charts.

The busy actor, Mohan, known to play soft romantic roles faded away from cinema in the later half of 1980s after a string of failures. He successfully ventured to small screen and produced a couple of mega serials. He tried to stage a comeback producing and directing a Tamil movie a few years go.

Unfortunately he could not succeed. Bitten by the acting bug again is Mohan. The actor is all set to make his re-entry for the third time with a movie titled Sutta Pazham. The movie would be directed by G K, who directed Perusu. Says the director, it is a full-length comedy entertainer and I sincerely feel Mohan would suit the role. I approached him and narrated the story. He immediately agreed. Search is on for a heroine.'

Even though the people of Kancheepuram knew of his eccentric ways, they were shocked when Neelamegam alias Srinivasan stopped speaking after seeing Kamal Hassan’s movie, ‘Pesum Padam’. This was a silent movie where no one utters a single word.

Neelamegam was such a hardcore fan of Kamal that he would copy everything his idol did. He danced like the actor for the song ‘Ilamai Itho Itho’ from the film ‘Sakalakalavallavan’. He cried like ‘Nayagan’ Kamal. He tonsured his head after seeing ‘Sathya’ and grew a moustache like ‘Devar Magan’.

Such was his devotion to the actor that after seeing ‘Pesum Padam’ he stopped speaking for almost a year. People thought he would grow out of the fad once another Kamal movie was released. But they had under-estimated his adulation

“He would come to the tea shop and stand there without talking to anyone. Even if we goaded him into speaking, he would reply only in writing. If we cracked a joke, he would cover his mouth with his hand to stop himself from letting out any sound,” says Venkatesan, who was his good friend and an equally ardent admirer of Kamal.

When asked why he was not speaking, Neelamegam would write on a piece of paper, “Thalaivar Pesala Athanala Naanum Pesala.” It also broke Neelamegam’s heart that ‘Pesum Padam’ was a failure.

He became very pensive and refused to speak. He had studied only up to class-9 and lost his transfer certificate. So he would take up any odd job that people asked him to do.

“Everybody warned him that it was dangerous to take his devotion to such lengths. If we forced him to speak, he would simply walk away,” remembers Venkatesan.

After not speaking for a year or so, his jaw got locked – atrophied – because he did not use it. It was also the time that ‘Devar Magan’ was released and was doing well. So, Neelamegam spoke again and grew a moustache like Kamal. But he would simply answer questions in monosyllables and otherwise cover his mouth with his hand.

He remained ‘speechless’ for almost 4-5 years and it seems to have affected him emotionally. He could not keep a job and used to wander about aimlessly in Kancheepuram, says Sathish Kumar about Neelamegam who was his father’s cousin.

Neelamegam’s parents were separated and his two brothers and sister grew up with their father. But slowly he moved away from his family and became more and more withdrawn. He is now believed to be living with his mother somewhere in Tiruvallur as he has become emotionally imbalanced.

“We are not sure if it was his craze for Kamal, whom he has met about a couple of times, that drove him to insanity or if there was any other reason. He must be about 35 years old now, but needs to be looked after like a child. He does not recognise even me, though we were very close at one point of time,” says Sathish.

“I was also a great fan of Kamal, but after seeing my chithappa’s condition, I restrained myself from going overboard,” he concludes.

Kamal himself has asked his fans time and again not to worship him mindlessly but treat him as a normal human being.

“Neelamegam is a lesson for all of us who are crazy about movie stars,” adds Venkatesan though he claims in the same breath that his life’s ambition is to meet ‘thalaivar’ and take a photo with him!

Remakes - the toast of the season

These days, remakes of yesteryear big hits (classics, if you may) seem pretty much the toast of the season.

A clutch of movies are now set to be remade.

As we all know, Billa, the Rajinikanth blockbuster, is set to be remade with Ajith in the unforgettable double role.

Then we have the Gemini Ganesan classic Naan Avanillai. This stars Jeevan in the hero’s slot and has a slew of heroines to add to the glamour.

Now officially, the original makers of M R Radha’s biggest hit ever, Ratha Kanneer have announced that the film, which is almost legendary in Tamil Nadu, will be remade shortly.

Amidst this, actor Vijay has clarified that he is not doing the remake of Murattu Kalai.

Elsewhere, there is a talk that Kamal- K Balachander’s unforgettable and ahead-of-the-times classic Manmadha Leelai will be remade.

There is no official word yet.

The other talk is that Jeeva may get do that role which Kamal played with rare elan and aplomb.

Bangalore: After pro-Kannada activists, lawyers and industrialists protested against the verdict of the Cauvery water disputes tribunal, it was the turn of the film fraternity in Bangalore to come out on the streets to register their disapproval over the verdict.

Nearly 5,000 members of the Kannada film industry hit the streets on Tuesday to express their disapproval, using their screen charisma to make people empathise with the condition of farmers in the Cauvery belt.

Along with the rest of Karnataka, thousands of screen icons from the Kannada film industry also feel that the state has been given a raw deal by the Cauvery Tribunal order.

“We are with the people of Karnataka and the farmers from here,” said actor Vishnuvardhan.

The show of disapproval was not just limited to street demonstrations.

Director Prem went to the extent of canceling his shooting schedule in Tamil Nadu because of the dispute and rushed back to Karnataka to join in the chorus.

Tamil channels have also gone off-air and Tamil films have not been screened in the state since the verdict was announced.

But isn't this carrying the resentment a bit too far?

“But everything is unfair right now and you cannot expect anything to be fair in this situation,” said actor Ravichandran.

Cinema has always sought to be the voice of the people. The Kannada film industry has gone a step further and chosen to voice the concerns of farmers in distress.

Actor srikanth is a 'chappa' payyan. He was once beaten black and blue by my friend's acquaintance. Srikanth it seems plays cricket well. Once in a cricket match a dispute between him and another player ended in Srikanth getting thrashed by the other guy. My friend passed on this information while we were discussing about 'Joot' and I have reasons to believe him as he is an erstwhile first division player himself.
Srikanth was my junior in school by one year when i was in class 12. Haven't watched him play cricket but he was the star in school dramas. Ore Peter dhaan - only Shakespeare damas :)

The biggest Kollywood party of recent times

It was one of the biggest parties thrown in Kollywood in recent times. The anniversary celebration of ET-Madras Plus held at Park Sheraton in Chennai on Feb 10 had who's who of the industry coming together.

It has been a while since the three biggies Vijay, Vikram and Surya were seen at a same place; not to forget Simbu and Dhanush sharing few lighter moments. Sister-in-laws Sonia Selvaraghavan and Aishwarya Dhanush were seen with Trisha Krishnan having a great time.

Directors Dharani and Bala were at their relaxed best with A.R.Rahman as usual stopped for a few minutes to rush back.

Some of the top media persons were also seen gracing the occasion.

Overall the ambience was top notch and the event was well managed. The celebrities seems to have a taken a special liking towards the sets erected inside the venue on lines with a market place with flower shops, pan center, auto stands and movie cut outs.

Deepavali is entertaining. Ezhil does a good job of using the crux of 50 First Dates, while not a single scene is copied. I do have a grouse, though its not about people flying in all directions when Ravi hits them or the fact he becomes the 237th Tamil hero to get up in huff from a hospital. I was talking with my friend from Loyola (the same college in which Simbu(chimp) studied) . Our conversation soon switched to Simbu - Nayanthara flare up . And he had this to say about Simbu. Simbu it seems is a 'loosu' payyan. He says Simbu is most likely to be the culprit as he has this habit of passing on photos taken along with girls to his friends who in turn make them public. One more interesting titbit. Simbu's younger bro was from the same college and this poor guy suffered only because of his elder bro' misadventures . ('Ennada un anna adanga mattana. Enna ponnungale mathika matendran. Solli vai'). All this is hearsay. Take it with a pich of salt , no truck loads of salt.

Shankar’s films always stir curiosity.

Rajinikanth’s movies too always keep the conjectures flowing.

Naturally then when the duo has come together, the guessing game is even more pronounced.

Kollywood is agog with conjectures that Rajinikanth's Sivaji is an inspiration of a Malayalam movie titled Natu Vazhikal.

It is about an honest police officer father and his angry young son. The son embarks on a mission to avenge the killers of his father.

But there is no way of confirming the news.

Sivaji directed by Shankar for AVM Production is reportedly going to floors on 14 December at Hyderabad where a grand set has been erected.

Featuring Rajinikanth, Shreya, Vivek among others, Sivaji has musical score by A R Rehman and cinematography by K V Anand.

Meanwhile Rajinikanth had reportedly expressed his desire that the movie should not have any political dialogues.

A major portion of the movie would be shot in a grand set while a few songs in abroad.

Director Shankar is known across India as a great creator of cinema. His films 'Gentleman, Premikudu, Oke Okkadu, Jeans, Bharateeyudu, Boys, Aparichitudu and the latest film Sivaji' proved that it is a fact.

It is well aware that Indian Super Star Rajanikanth played in and as 'Sivaji' under his direction and the film is shaking the Box Office and created a sensation.

If Prince Maheshbabu acts in a film under his direction, we can expect wonders. There was a strong rumour in Film Nagar that a film is in the offing in this combination.

Let us hope that the rumour turn into a reality.

75 years of Tamil Cinema: Singapore

To celebrate the completion of 75 years of Tamil Cinema, the Nadigar Sangam, under its President Mr. R. Sarathkumar, is going to have a week long festival of Tamil Cinema in Singapore in August, 2007.

The Event in Singapore will start on Monday August 6th, 2007 and will go on until Saturday August 11th, 2007 for a grand finale.

Celebrity Dinner
Grand Star Nite Show

The Grand finale will be on August 11th, 2007 (Saturday) at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. A star studded Broadway style Musical Show involving all the actors and actresses of the Tamil film industry is being planned for the gala evening.

The Nadigar Sangam has confirmed that all the artistes from the Tamil Movie industry will participate in the Show

The show is being orchestrated by Radaan Mediaworks India Limited and is organized by Galatta.com through its newly formed subsidiary called Galatta Global Events.

Galatta.com has been given the role of the Internet Media Partner for the event.

This show is going to be the biggest show ever in Tamil Cinema history will ALL your favorite stars performing and gracing the occasion.

You can look forward to a week full of fun and if you plan to visit Singapore during that time you should plan to be there!!

Chief Minister and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi watched a special premiere of Thangar Bachan's Pallikoodam at Four Frames in Chennai on Sunday. He was accompanied by his daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi on the occasion. Thangar Bachan along with his wife also accompanied him.

The movie is an emotional saga of rebuilding a school, which is in a dilapidated condition. Thangar Bachan, Narain, Seeman, Sneha and Meenal play prominent roles in the movie which has musical score by Bharadwaj and produced by Vishwas Sundar.

After watching the movie, Karunanidhi heaped laurels on Thangar's directorial skills.

“Such films should come regularly and do every Tamilian proud”, Karunanidhi said.

Meanwhile, Actor Rajnikanth too had a special screening of Pallikoodam, and he too was moved to heights of happiness after seeing the film.

At the sets of Vel, Asin was spotted recounting a hair rising incident while she was shooting in South Africa for Hindi Gajini. She says, “When we were in South Africa, I visited a seal island near Cape Town and as I was feeding the seals, I saw a young man battling for his life in the ocean. As he was wearing heavy boots, he was not able to swim and the efforts of the person who went to rescue him also were in vain. I saw him getting drowned just in front of my eyes and dying. I was completely shaken up and the scene still torments me.”

இனி திரையிடப்படும் பழைய மற்றும் புதிய தமிழ்த் திரைப்படங்களின் தமிழ்ப் பெயர்கள் தமிழ்ப் பண்பாட்டிற்கு உகந்ததாகவும் கண்ணியமானதாகவும் உள்ளதா? என்பதை ஆய்வு செய்து அரசுக்குப் பரிந்துரை செய்திட அதிகாரிகள் கொண்ட குழு ஒன்றை அமைத்து முதல்வர் கருணாநிதி உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளார். இது தொடர்பாகத் தமிழக அரசு வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிவிப்பில் கூறியிருப்பதாவது:

தமிழில் பெயர் கொண்ட புதிய மற்றும் பழைய திரைப்படங்களுக்குக் கேளிக்கை வரியில் இருந்து முழுமையான வரி விலக்கு அளிக்கும் திட்டம் தமிழக அரசினால் 2006ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

தற்போது திரையிடப்படும் பல திரைப்படங்களின் தலைப்பு, தமிழ் பண்பாட்டிற்கும் கண்ணியத்திற்கும் குந்தகம் விளைவிப்பதாக உள்ளது என்றும், தமிழ் மொழி வளர்ச்சிக்கும் தரத்திற்கும் உகந்ததாக இல்லை என்றும், அரசு வழங்கியுள்ள கேளிக்கை வரிச் சலுகையின் நோக்கத்திற்கு முரணாக உள்ளது என்றும் தமது கவனத்திற்குக் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டது.

`Maruthamalai` - Super Opening!

'Oscar' Ravichandran, is all smiles as his Arjun-Vadivel mass masala Maruthamalai has taken a super opening across A,B & C centers in Tamilnadu. The film which opened with a record 155 prints (for an Arjun film) has done an astonishing 92 percent on release day (Friday, Sep 7)!

Says 'Oscar' Ravichandran: "It is a super smash hit across the state and even in Kerala. I would say it is the best ever Arjun opening in recent times. Believe me the elite audiences at Sathyam and Inox in Chennai city are enjoying it as much as the audiences in Madurai and Salem areas, the traditional supporters of mass masala movies!"

On day two of its release, Maruthamalai had a marginal fall, as there was the Nat west trophy India-England cup decider match at Lords, which meant noon, matinee and evening shows were likely to be hit. But the moment Sachin Tendulkar was given out unfairly by the Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar (around 5 pm) and it was clear that India was losing, people switched off their TV and rushed to theatres. NSC and city reported 90 to 100 percent for Saturday evening and night shows!

'Action King' Arjun piggy back riding on Vadivel's comedy has made yet another comeback. Next week the Telugu dubbed version of Maruthamalai will hit the screens in Andhra.

Veteran Tamil, Malayalam actor Vijayan dead
New Delhi: Veteran actor Vijayan, who had starred in over 100 Tamil and Malayalam films, died in Chennai on Saturday night.

The actor, who had acted in more than 100 movies, died of Cardiac arrest in a private hospital in Chennai.

A native of Kozhikode, Vijayan was introduced to cinema by acclaimed Director Bharathiraja in Kizhakae Pogum Rayil.

The 63-year-old actor shot to fame with Uthiripookal, directed by Mahendran.

He played prominent characters in several films like Niram Maraatha Pookal, Pasi, Oru Vidukathai Oru Thodarkathai and Palaivana Rojakal.

Vijayan had also acted in Mani Ratnam's Nayakan, Ramana and Run.

He was shooting for Sundar C's Ayudham Seivom when he breathed his last.

The actor is survived by his daughter.

‘‘நானும் கேட்டேன். நான் யாரையும் குற்றம் சொல்ல மாட்டேன். ஆனா இப்ப இருக்குற ரசிகர்கள், இளைய தலைமுறையினர் இதைத் தான் விரும்புறாங்கன்னு சொல்றது தப்பு. ‘‘தொட்டால் பூ மலரும்..’’ பாட்டை ரஹ்மான் ரீ_மிக்ஸ் செய்திருந்த சமயம், ஏர்போர்ட்ல மீட் பண்ணினோம். என்னைப் பார்த்துட்டு நான் எதுவும் சொல்வேனோன்னு பயந்தார் ரஹ்மான். ஆனா, நான் பாராட்டினேன். காரணம் ரஹ்மான் செய்தது ரீ_மிக்ஸ் மாதிரி இல்ல. முழு பாடல் வரிகளையும் அப்படியே வெச்சுக்கிட்டு டியூன் போட்டார். பாட்டு கேட்கவும் நல்லா இருந்தது. அதுதான் சரி. அப்படித்தான் பண்ணணும். ஆனா பழைய ட்யூனை வெச்சுக்கிட்டு இடையில் ‘காச் மூச்’னு கத்தறதும், சத்தமான மியூசிக்கும் கேட்கவே பரிதாபமாயிருக்கு. ஏன் இப்படிப் பண்ணணும். செய்தா ‘பழமை மாறாமல்’ செய்யணும். இப்ப கூட ‘பில்லா’ படத்துல ‘மை நேம் இஸ் பில்லா’ பாட்டை எனக்குப் போட்டுக் காண்பிக்கிறதுக்காக வர்றேன்னு சொன்னாங்க. நான் தவிர்த்துட்டேன். என்னோட வாழ்த்து எப்பவும் எல்லார்க்கும் இருக்கும். ஒரு ரசிகனா நான் இதை ரசிக்கவில்லை. இளைய தலைமுறைக்கு விஷம் பிடிக்குதுன்னா நாம விஷம் கொடுக்கலாமா? இது தப்பு. சரியில்ல...

‘நினைத்தாலே இனிக்கும்’ படத்துக்காக கம்போஸ் செய்தபோது, ஒரு கிராமத்துப் பாடலை நான் பாடிக் காண்பித்தேன். ‘கத்தாழங் காட்டுக்குள்ள... விறகொடிக்கப் போனபுள்ள’ இதுதான் அந்தப் பாட்டு. அதையே கண்ணதாசன், ‘எங்கேயும் எப்போதும்’னு உடனே பாடலை எழுதிக் கொடுத்திட்டார். இப்படி ஒன்றிலிருந்து ஒன்று வந்தால் தப்பில்லை. எதையும் கெடுத்திடக் கூடாது’’ என்றவர், ‘‘சொல்லத்தான் நினைக்கிறேன்.. உள்ளத்தால் துடிக்கிறேன்’’ என்று உச்ச ஸ்தாயியில் பாட ஆரம்பித்தார்..

எப்போதும் ‘தனிமை உலகத்தி’லேயே இருக்கும் ராஜாவை என்ன மந்திரம் போட்டு எப்படி சம்மதிக்க வைத்தார்களோ கலைஞர் டி.வி.க்காரர்கள். பொங்கல் தினத்தன்று கலைஞர் டி.வி.யில் ஹைலைட்டான புரோக்ராமே இதுதானாம்!

அறுபதாயிரம் பேர் உட்காரக்கூடிய ஷார்ஜா ஸ்டேடியத்தில் இடமில்லாமல் இருபதாயிரத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட ரசிகர்கள் வெளியே நின்றிருக்கிறார்கள். எஸ்.பி.பி., சித்ரா, மனோ, ஸ்ரேயா, கோஷல், சாதனா சர்க்கம், விஜய் யேசுதாஸ், திப்பு, மஞ்சரி, மது பாலகிருஷ்ணன் உட்பட முன்னணி பாடகர்களோடு 87 இசைக் கலைஞர்கள் என ஆறுமணி நேரம் 80_90களில் வெளிவந்த பாடல்களைப் பாடி ரசிகர்களை சொக்க வைத்து விட்டார் ராஜா.

எஸ்.பி.பி. படு ஜாலியான மூடில் பாடி ரசிகர்களை குஷிப்படுத்தினார். அவ்வப்போது பாடல் எப்படியெல்லாம் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டது என்பதை கதை போல் சொல்லி ரசிகர்களுக்கு விருந்து வைத்தார். யாரும் எதிர்பார்க்காத நேரத்தில் கார்த்திக் ராஜா, யுவன் இருவரும் மேடையேறி ‘‘என் பாட்டை பாடுங்க.. என் பாட்டை பாடுங்கன்னு’ ராஜாவை கலாய்க்க, ராஜா உடனே ‘‘அறியாத வயசு... புரியாத மனசு’’ என்று தொடங்க... அரங்கில் அப்ளாஸ் அள்ளிக் கொண்டது.

ஆனால் யுவன், ‘‘இதுல்ல என்பாட்டு’’ என்றதும், கார்த்திக்கும் அதையே திரும்பச் சொல்ல, ராஜா சட்டென்று ‘‘ராஜா... ராஜாதி ராஜனிந்த ராஜா’’ என்று தொடங்க, மூவரும் சேர்ந்து பாடி முடிக்கும் வரை அரங்கில் உற்சாகம் கரை புரண்டது.

நிகழ்ச்சியைத் தொகுத்து வழங்கிய ஜெயராமும், குஷ்புவும் எஸ்.பி.பி.யிடம் ஒரு பாடல் கேட்க, ‘‘நான் பாட்டுப் பாடினால் நீங்க ஆடணும்’’ என்றதும் குஷ்பு தயாராகி விட்டார். ‘ஏய்... ஆத்தா ஆத்தோரமா வாரீயா’ பாடலுக்கு செம குத்தாட்டம் போட்டு ரசிகர்களையும் ஆட வைத்து விட்டனர் குஷ்பு, ஜெயராம், கூடவே மனோவும்.

இளையராஜா பேசும் போது ‘‘என்னிடம் ஃபாஸ்ட் ஃபுட் இசையை எதிர்பார்க்காதீர்கள். தலைவாழை இலை போட்டு நிதானமாகப் பரிமாறும் கல்யாணச் சாப்பாடுதான் கிடைக்கும்!’’ என்றார். இப்படி கச்சேரியில் களைகட்டிய சமாச்சாரங்கள் ஒருபுறமிருக்க, இந்தப் பயணத்தில் ராஜாவைக் கடுப்பேத்தும் விதமாகவும் ஒரு காரியம் நடந்திருக்கிறது.

ராஜா தன்னுடைய இசைக்குழுவினருடன் ஷார்ஜா போய் இறங்கியதும், கடலுக்குள் அமைந்திருக்கும் அதிநவீன ஹோட்டல் ஒன்றில் தங்க வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

அரபு நாடுகளுக்கு உண்டான விதிகளின் படி அந்த ஹோட்டலில் ஒவ்வொரு அறைக்குச் செல்லவும் ஒரு உடை அணிய வேண்டும். வேஷ்டி சட்டை அணியக் கூடாதாம்!இதைக் கண்டிப்பாகச் சொல்லி விட்டது ஹோட்டல் நிர்வாகம். இந்த நிபந்தனையால் கடுப்பான இளையராஜா அங்கு தங்குவதற்கே மறுத்து விட்டார். இது ஹோட்டல் நிர்வாகத்திற்குத் தெரிந்து பதறிப்போய் ராஜாவுக்கு மட்டும் விதியைத் தளர்த்தியிருக்கிறார்கள்..

Ghajini director arrested?

A.R. Murgadoss, the super-hit director of Tamil Ghajini was “arrested” while coming out of the house of Sujatha in Mylapore, where he had gone to pay his last respect to the late writer!

The ace director who is now doing the Hindi version of Ghajini with Aamir Khan was arrested by the Salem Police on a complaint filed by Salem Chandrasekhar, the Tamil Ghajini producer. Chandrasekhar had filed a police complaint with the Salem Police saying that Murugadoss had kept him in the dark regarding the making of a Hindi version of Ghajini and he has not been paid his due share of the remake rights.

But the manner in which Murgadoss was surreptitiously bundled into a car by police in mufti, in full glare of heavy traffic, made it look like a “Kollywood film style kidnapping”, according to onlookers.

The Chennai police have confirmed that Murgadoss was “arrested by Salem Police”, and he will be produced in a Magistrate court in Salem later in the day.

But when contacted, sources close to the director say that he was "not arrested" but taken for questioning and later send away. They also say that Murugadoss is right now in his office.

K.S Ravikumar will complete his magnum opus Dasavatharam, by the end of March he will finish all post-production work regarding the film. After that he will start work on his long pending commitment to Radaan Media Works, for their new film with Sarath Kumar. Sarath Kumar and Radhika are very particular that Ravikumar comes out with a film that is different from the run-of-the mill commercial mass masala he has done in the past. Sarath has been very impressed with Ravikumar's story of Jaggu Bhai, which he wrote for Rajinikanth a few years back.

Jaggu Bhai was to be the superstar's next film after the Baba fiasco, and Rajinikanth even did a photo shoot for the film which after a few weeks was scrapped. At that time Rajinikanth had said that it was "too sensitive as it will rub a lot of politicians the wrong way".

Now Sarath Kumar after the launch of his new political party Akila Indhiya Samthuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) feels that if he does a film with a political message packaged as a mass entertainer it will be a boost to his fledging political career. Those who knows the story line of Jaggu Bhai say it is the ideal launch vehicle for Sarath in politics as he is trying to bring back the Kamaraj rule in the State, which according to him, is the best ever so far in the State. The late Congress leader was able to provide a corrupt-free government, guided only by the interest of the people.

So in all probability K.S Ravikumar and Sarath Kumar will start work on Jaggu Bhai, in May. The film has tremendous title value and reach as it was originally supposed to be done by the superstar.

For the first time in the history an audio CD of a movie will be sold one lakh copies on the day of the release. It is one of the rarest happenings in 75 years of Tamil cinema history.

The audio of Vijayakanth – Navneeth Kaur starrer 'Arasangam' is slated to be launched on March 28. The launch function will be held in Chennai like any other audio CD of a film. But the producers of 'Arasangam' have planned to make the release a grand event by organizing audio release functions all over Tamil Nadu.

Captain Vijayakanth’s DMDK is gearing up for the event as if it is a party function. The office bearers of the party have booked one lakh CDs for the event. The functions held in all districts will also mark the launch of many welfare schemes. This would be the first time an audio track selling one lakh copies on the first day itself. Orders have been received even from Andaman Nicobar islands for 350 CDs. This is the first time such orders coming from the island.

Srikanth Deva has scored the music while Rhythm Music has procured the audio rights.

a‘Arasangam’, Captain’s 150th film, is produced by L.K. Sudheesh and directed by director R. Madhesh. A large portion of the film has been shot in Toronto, Canada in 45 days. It has been said that a few Hollywood and Canadian film artists have assisted in the production of the film. The film is expected to be released by the second week of April.

இப்படத்தில் தேவ் என்கிற புதுமுகம் ஹீரோவாக நடிக்கிறாராம். மீரா ஜாஸ்மின் ஹீரோயினாக நடிக்கவுள்ளாராம். வெற்றி என்கிற புதுமுகம் இயக்கப் போகிறார். விரைவில் ஷூட்டிங் ஆரம்பிக்கவுள்ளதாக தயாரிப்பாளர் தரப்பு கூறுகிறது.

இப்படம் பழைய தெய்வமகன் இல்லை என்றும், இந்தக் காலத்திற்குத் தேவையான அனைத்து மசாலாக்களும் நிறைந்த கமர்ஷியல் படம் என்று இயக்குநர் வெற்றி கூறியுள்ளார்.

இதேபோல, படிக்காதவன், ஜானி உள்ளிட்ட 6 பழைய சூப்பர் ஹிட் படங்களின் டைட்டில்கள் கடந்த சில நாட்களில் மட்டும் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளதாம்.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, along with 150 special invitees including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan watched ‘Ulliyin Osai’ on Tuesday, a film based on a story the Chief Minister had written four decades ago.

Rajini, when asked about the movie, said, 'Story, screen play and dialogues are superb. It is a fantastic love story. Excellent.' Asked if there was any particular dialogue that he liked, he said that there were far too many.

Praising Karunanidhi, Kamal said, 'He had worked on the project despite all his duties as Chief Minister. I have a lot to learn from him.'

This film proves that both Kalaignar's stories and art are timeless, said director Bharathirajaa.

K S Ravikumar, fresh from the success of ‘Dasavatharam’, said there were so many twists and unexpected turns in the movie in the second half and that kept him very interested and absorbed. 'The songs are very good and so is the manner in which they have been filmed. I did not expect such a touching movie,' he said.

The film is based on Karunanidhi's short story 'Saarapallam Samundi'. Produced by Thiruvottiyur SP Murugesan, the film has Keerthi Chawla, Suja, Vineeth and Sarath Babu in lead roles. Ilavenil makes his debut as director while Ilayaraja has handled the music.

Panthayam, starring Nitin Sathya, Sindhu Tolaani and Prakashraj, is directed by S.A. Chandrasekar. The movie is a Vijay Anthony musical.

'Kadhal Theeviravadhi' is in Vinaya and Jaydev's voices. Slow-paced, gentle and melodic, the song brings about a profound effect on the listeners.

'Lusimbara' in Christopher and Ramya's voices is an exotic number. Starting from its lingo to its tune, the song is different.

Much like old habits, it seems classic tunes too die hard. 'Surangani', a remix in Maya, Megha and Balaji's voices, validates the above theory and the song should become a chart- topper.

'Ammane' cannot be positioned into a particular category. In fact, the song comprises little bits of different styles; the resulting song is truly refreshing and enjoyable. Belly Raj, Nitesh Gopalan and Vinitha beautifully render this extraordinary composition.

Vinaya, Shobha Chandrasekar and Christopher Balaji form the chorus band in 'Chinna Maamiye'. Striking music, hip-hop rhythm and fitting lyrics are the song's highlights.

All the five gems from Vijay Anthony for Panthayam are indeed endearing.

A clever mix of positioning and packaging with the added flavour of superstars can bring in the crowds this festive season..

The Diwali season is hardly a month away and the industry is pinning its hopes on Ajit’s Aegan and Surya’s Vaaranam Aayiram, to brighten the festival of lights. So far, 2008 has turned out to be a miserable year for the biggies with mega-movies like Kuselan and Sathyam bombing at the box-office, while small films like Subramaniapuram and Saroja, made money. Now, there is tremendous pressure on “superstarfilms” to perform. A leading distributor said, “The global meltdown has had its effect on Kollywood. The Diwali films have to be mega-hits only then will distributors and theatres come forward to buy Pongal releases like Kandasamy, Villu and Ayan.

As of now, Aegan, Vaaranam Aayiram and Sevel are the likely big Diwali releases. It’s an even battle as Ajith is considered by the trade to have the best opening after Rajinikanth in Tamil cinema. At the same time, Surya-Gautham Menon-Harris Jayaraj are a deadly trio, who can bring in the family and the youth audiences. Director Hari is the darling of the B & C viewers and with Bharath turning into an angry young man in Seval, there will be fireworks this Diwali.

Everything depends on the kind of marketing by the producers of these films and that’s quite simple. Traditionally, it is also a part of the custom to watch a film during Diwali and the public likes a superstar film. Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan had some of their biggest hits released during Diwali. Both stars had turned mediocre films into hits during Diwali.

In any form of cricket whether it is Test match, one-dayers or the latest T-20, it is the openers, who lay the foundation for a win. Similarly, in today’s commercial cinema if a star has a good opening and if the price of the film is reasonable, you have a winner. In other words, a good opening ensures safety cover for the producers. Ajith has a loyal and strong fan base, which will ensure the film opens big, but after the first weekend, it depends purely on word-of- mouth. Surya has a fledging fan base, but his following among the lady audiences is a plus.

Today, all big films invariably open with a large number of prints and in digital format. If the star commands an opening he should be able to get between 90 to 100 percent collections in the first three days of the film's release, which normally works out to 30 to 35 percent of the film’s cost. Let us hope the Diwali films open big and give the superstars the badly needed hit!

Diwali- 2008 is hardly a month away, but the trade is unsure of what
film will release for the festival of lights. A few weeks back the
producers of Aegan, Abhiyum Njaanum, Guru Enn Aalu, Njaan Kadavul,
Seval, Silambattam, Vaaranam Aayiram, confirmed that they are
targeting a Diwali release.

But as of now (Sep 26), only Ayngaran International has confirmed
booking for Ajit's Aegan and Bharath's Seval with theatres across the
world. KRG producer of Guru Enn Aalu has said that he will be
confirming the theatres by Monday, after the film's audio launch.

It looks almost certain that Njaan Kadavul will not make it for
Diwali as negotiations between Zee TV, Pyramid Saimira the original
producers and producer director Bala is yet to reach the final
settlement.

Abhiyum Njaanum has got confirmed booking only at Sathyam Cinemas
(maximum two shows in small screen) and Inox, while in rest of
Tamilnadu nobody has dates for the film!

The producers of Silambattam are yet to confirm a Diwali release
though Simbu is pressing them to release the film on his lucky date.
The biggest setback has been for Vaaranam Aayiram, as producer Aascar
Ravichandran and the film's Tamilnadu distributor Gemni Film Circuit,
are yet to sort out their differences.

Meanwhile Ayngaran has got all the prime screens in Tamilnadu and
overseas to screen their Aegan and Seval for Diwali. For example
Sathyam Cinemas big screen has signed up to screen Aegan four shows,
and the smaller Shantham will screen two shows of Seval for Diwali.
In smaller stations too both these films have got prime theatres.

Theatres across the world are willing to roll out the red carpet for
Ayngaran International, as they have Rajinikanth' s Enthiren and
Vijay's Villu and half a dozen other films lined up for next year!

Aamir Khan is a great fan of Vijay

Any guesses how Aamir and Vijay could have been so close friends? Well, we have Murugadoss himself speaking about this in an interview. While Shooting for the Hindi Ghajini in Ramoji Film City, Vijay met Murugadoss and asked whether he could visit the shooting sets of Ghajini. With no space for any reluctance, Murugadoss had taken Vijay to the sets and got introduced him to Aamir Khan.

Fine! It was a great surprise for Vijay as Aamir recognized him so easily and hugged him. “I am your great fan. Me and my wife have really enjoyed your dance as we saw on television channels while we were staying in Chennai” said Aamir Khan. Both of them spent a great time there and shared experiences of shooting for their own projects…

ஜெர்மன் நாட்டைச் சேர்ந்த தமிழர் மாஸ்டர் ஆதவன் முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்துள்ளார்.

ஆதவனின் அம்மாவாக `கருத்தம்மா' ராஜஸ்ரீ நடித்திருக்கிறார். இவர் கடந்த நான்கு வருடமாக எந்த திரைப்படத்திலும் நடிக்காமல் விலகியிருந்தவர், கதையை கேட்டு நடிக்க சம்மதித்ததோடு, படத்தில் அந்த தாய் பாத்திரத்தில் வாழ்ந்திருக்கிறார். இவர்களோடு `முதல்வன்' மகேந்திரன், பாக்யாஸ்ரீ, மாஸ்டர் ஆதி, மாஸ்டர் தேஜஸ் நடித்துள்ளனர்.

இப்படத்தின் படப்பிடிப்பு சென்னை மற்றும் அதன் சுற்றுப்புறங்களில் நடந்துள்ளது. ஒளிப்பதிவாளர் கிச்சாஸ் ஒளிப்பதிவு செய்திருக்கிறார்.

The veteran Tamil film director C.V Sridhar (80), died today (Oct 20) morning (9.45am) at Malar Hospital in Adyar, Chennai. Sridhar who had suffered a stroke a few years back, was admitted into the hospital some days back, when his condition deteriorated.

Sridhar was a romantist and brought about a whiff of freshness into Tamil cinema in the early 60's. Who can forget his classics like Nenjil Oru Aalayam which was remade into Hindi and became a super hit as Dil Ek Mandir?

Sridhar started as a dialogue writer when his play “Ratha Pasam” was adapted as a film. He made his debut as a director with Kalyanaparisu, a super hit. He started his own production company Chitralaya in 1961 and made a series of commercially successful films.

His formula was simple. He had big stars notably an actor of caliber like Sivaji Ganesan, steamy melodrama and supreme sacrifice which ensured that women audiences thronged his films. All this was laced with a humorous comedy track,preferably by Nagesh and the songs in his films were melodious and chartbusters. Who can forget the soft romantic Kamal- Rajini film Illamai Oonjal Aadirathu (1978)?

Some of his more successful box-office hits in Tamil were- Kadhalike Neramillai, Nenjil Oru Aalayam, Venneer Aadai, Gallata Kalyanam, Ootty Varai Uravu, Illamai Oonjal Aadiruthu, Kalyana Parissu, Aalaimani, Thennilavu,.

Sridhar was the most successful Tamil director in Hindi with super hits like Dil Ek Mandir, Pyaar Kiya Jaa, Nazarana, Gehri Chaal etc He has directed films in Telugu and Kannada.

International movie galore in Chennai

Want to see quality films around the globe. In a week's time a galore of movies from the world storms Chennai.

Beginning 17 December, Chennai will witness a 10-day international film festival in which movies from 34 countries including Russia, Israel, Turkey and Iran will be screened.

The festival is organized by Indo Cine Appreciation Forum with State government's aid of Rs 25 lakh.

Over a dozen foreign delegates attending the event, the film fest will witness movies like Class (winner at Cannes Festival), Academy award winners Volver, Lives of Others showcased.

In Tamil section, films like 'Subramaniapuram', 'Anjathae' and 'Poo' will be screened.

The venue for the festival are Woodlands, Woodlands Symphony and Film Chamber. Five shows will be screened on all ten days.

Simbu and Nayanthara accidentally land up on the same stage during the Nadigar
Sangam’s Unnavrutham over the Hogenakkal issue. As television cameras focus on them, they are forced to exchange pleasantries, leading to a thaw in their relationship.

2009- Pongal release update

Villu produced by Ayngaran International. It is the only film that exhibitors are willing to pay reasonable MG, while other films they are only taking the bookings.

As of now the release schedule is as follows-

AVM’s A Aa E Ee on Friday, January 9. The buzz on the “feel good family movie” is good, due to the 360 degree publicity campaign carried out by the producers. It is releasing worldwide in 85 screens, which is impressive for a small film.

Ayngaran International’s Villu, is releasing in nearly 432 screens worldwide on Monday, January 12. It is a very wide release with 155 of them in overseas markets, the highest ever for a Tamil film. In Kerala, a Vijay fortress it is releasing in nearly 70 screens like a big Mohanlal or Mammootty film! The film releasing two days before the festival day is going to take a gargantuan opening.

Sun Pictures has already bombarded its viewers with Padikkathavan trailer. The Dhanush-Tamannaah starrer will release in 250 screens worldwide, Dhanush’s biggest ever release. A lot is riding on the film releasing on Pongal Day January 14, for Dhanush, as he is on the verge of a hat-trick of hits.

Raj TV’s Kathal Na Summa Illa has announced more than a week back that they will be releasing for Pongal and has also published a theatre listing. The film may have only a limited release on Pongal Day, Jan 14, as theatres prefer the biggies.

Captain Vijaykanth’s Engal Asan is also scheduled to release on Pongal Day, January 14, all over Tamilnadu. The film is getting more theatre bookings from B and C than the A centers.

The above five films have got theatre bookings in most places, while Guru En Aalu, Newtonin 3am Vidhi, Perumal, which had also announced Pongal release has now backed out due to lack of screens.

இளையராஜாவின் இசைக்கூடம். திரையில் ஓடிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது நான் கடவுள். படத்தை ராஜா பார்க்க, ராஜாவின் முகத்தையே பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார் பாலா. டென்ஷன்...டென்ஷன்... ஒவ்வொரு விரல் நகமாக கடித்துத் துப்பிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார் பாலா! படம் முடிந்ததும் விருட்டென்று எழுந்து தனது அறைக்குள் போய்விடுகிறார் இசைஞானி. அவ்வளவுதான், பல மணி நேரங்கள் யாரையுமே அவர் சந்திக்கவில்லை பாலா உட்பட!

மீண்டும் இசைஞானியை சந்திக்கிற வரை ஒரு பதற்றம் இருந்ததே பாலாவிடம், அதே பதற்றத்தை ரிலீஸ் நேரத்திலும் இவருக்கு கொடுக்க திட்டமிட்டிருக்கின்றன சில இந்துத்வா அமைப்புகள். "முஸ்லீம் நடிகரான ஆர்யாவை வைத்து இந்து அமைப்புகளை இழிவு படுத்தி விட்டார் பாலா. சாந்த சொரூபிகளான சாமியார்களை கஞ்சா சாமியார்களாக உருவகப்படுத்தி, அவர்களை கொலைகாரர்களாகவும் சித்தரித்திருக்கிறார். இது இந்து மதத்தையே இழிவு படுத்துகிற செயல்" இதுதான் இந்துத்வா அமைப்பை சேர்ந்தவர்களின் குற்றச்சாட்டு.

நான் கடவுள் இந்து மத கருத்துக்களுக்கு எதிரான படமா? என்ற கேள்வியோடு பாலாவை சந்திக்க முயன்றோம். கலர் கரெக்ஷன், பின்னணி இசையை மெருகூட்டுதல் போன்ற வேலைகளில் அவர் பிசியாக இருப்பதால் படத்தில் முக்கிய பணியாற்றிய சிலர் நம்மிடம் பேச முன் வந்தார்கள்.

"எழுத்தாளர் ஜெயமோகனின் 'ஏழாம் உலகம்' நாவலை தழுவி எடுக்கப்பட்ட படம் இது. பிச்சைக்காரர்களின் வாழ்க்கையை ஒரு ஆராய்ச்சி பார்வையோடு விளக்குகிற நாவல் அது. அதில் ருத்ரன் என்ற கேரக்டரை நுழைத்து ஒரு சிவ தாண்டவமே ஆடியிருக்கிறார் பாலா. ஆரம்ப காலங்களில் நாத்திகராக இருந்தாலும், சித்தர்களின் மீது மிகுந்த ஈடுபாடு கொண்டவர் பாலா. இவருக்கு பிடித்த சித்தர் ஒருவர் எழுதிய நூலின் பெயர்தான் 'நான் கடவுள்'. அதைதான் தனது படத்திற்கும் தலைப்பாக வைத்திருக்கிறார்"

"கதையையும், திரைக்கதையையும் மட்டுமே பாலா எழுதியிருக்கிறார். வசனம் ஜெயமோகனுடையது. இந்துத்வா அமைப்பை சேர்ந்தவர்கள் முதலில் ஜெயமோகன் யார் என்பதை கேட்டுத் தெரிந்து கொள்வது நல்லது. எழுத்தாளர்களின் மத்தியில் ஜெயமோகன் ஆர்எஸ்எஸ் அனுதாபி என்ற கருத்து அழுத்தமாகவே இருக்கிறது. அப்படிப்பட்டவர் எப்படி இந்து மதத்திற்கு எதிரான வசனங்களை எழுதுவார்?" என்று எதிர் கேள்வி எழுப்பினார்கள்.

"ரிக் வேதத்தில் சொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கும் வார்த்தைதான் நான் கடவுள். அது மட்டுமல்ல, ஒரு தமிழ் படத்திற்கு முதன் முதலில் சமஸ்கிருதத்தில் 'அஹம் பிரம்மாஸ்மி' என்று சப் டைட்டில் வைத்திருப்பதும் இந்த படத்தில்தான். ஒரு முழு பாடலையும் சமஸ்கிருத மந்திரத்தையே பாடலாக வைத்திருக்கிறார் இசைஞானி. அவரே பிச்சை பாத்திரம் ஏந்தி வந்தேன்... என்ற ஒரு பக்தி பாடலையும் பாடியிருக்கிறார். இவ்வளவு விஷயங்களும் படத்தை பார்த்தால்தானே தெரியும்? அப்படி பார்ப்பதற்கு முன்பே எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்தால் எப்படி?" என்றார்கள் ஆவேசமாகவும், வருந்தம் தோய்ந்த குரலிலும்.

படத்தை பார்த்து பிரமித்து போயிருக்கும் சென்சார் போர்டு உறுப்பினர் ஒருவரிடம் பேசினோம். "எங்க ஆர் ஓ வுக்கு தெரிஞ்சா அவ்வளவுதான்" என்ற அச்சத்தோடு பேச ஆரம்பித்தார் அவர். "நாங்க எல்லாருமே இந்த படத்தை பார்க்க ரொம்ப ஆர்வமாக இருந்தோம். இத்தனை நாட்கள் ஆன பிறகும், படம் பார்த்த பிரமிப்பு எங்களை விட்டு போகவே இல்லை. சண்டைக்காட்சிகள் மிகவும் அச்சமூட்டும் படியாக இருந்ததால் யு/ஏ சர்டிபிகேட் கொடுத்தோம். மற்றபடி எந்த காட்சிகளையும் வெட்டும்படி நிர்பந்திக்கவில்லை" என்றவர், படத்தின் கதையையும் சுருக்கமாக சொல்லி முடித்தார்.

"காஞ்சிபுரம் அருகில் குடியிருக்கும் ஒருவருக்கு ஆண் குழந்தை பிறக்கிறது. இந்த குழந்தை உங்களிடம் வளர்ந்தால் குடும்பத்திற்கு ஆகாது என்று ஜோதிடர் சொல்ல, குழந்தையை காசியில் விட்டு விட்டு வருகிறார்கள். அவன் அங்குள்ள சாமியார்களிடம் வளர ஆரம்பிக்கிறான். பாஷையிலிருந்து அனைத்து பழக்க வழக்கங்களையும் சாமியார்களிடம் கற்றுக் கொள்கிறான் சிறுவன். அவனை வாலிப வயதில் மீண்டும் சந்திக்கிறார் அவனது அப்பா. பிள்ளை இப்படி இருக்கிறானே என்ற அதிர்ச்சியில் மறுபடியும் சொந்த ஊருக்கு அழைத்து வருகிறார். இங்கு வருபவன், குழந்தைகளை கடத்தி முடமாக்கி பிச்சையெடுக்க வைக்கிற வில்லன்களுக்கு தானே கடவுளாகி தண்டனை கொடுக்கிறான். இதில் பூஜாவும் குழந்தை பருவத்தில் கடத்தி வரப்பட்டு வில்லன்களால் கண்கள் குருடாக்கப்பட்ட பெண். அவளையும் அந்த கூட்டத்திலிருந்து மீட்கிறான் என்று முடிகிறது கதை. இதில் வருகிற க்ளைமாக்சை நான் சொல்வது தர்மமில்லை" என்று முடித்துக் கொண்டார் அந்த சென்சார் போர்டு உறுப்பினர்.

மேலும் அவரது வாயை கிளறியபோது சில தகவல்கள் கிடைத்தன. நர மாமிசம் சாப்பிடுபவர்களை கொடூரி என்பார்களாம். இந்த கொடூரியாகவும் ஒரு காட்சியில் வருகிறாராம் ஆர்யா. பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கான சாமியார்கள் ஓரிடத்தில் கூடும் கும்பமேளா நிகழ்ச்சியில், எவ்வித ஆர்ப்பாட்டமும் செய்யாமல் கேமிராவோடு ஊடுருவி பல காட்சிகளை எடுத்திருக்கிறார்களாம். "இந்திய சினிமா எதிலும் இடம் பெறாத அபூர்வ காட்சிகள் அவை" என்றார் அவர்.

கடந்த மூன்று வருடங்களாக நான் கடவுளை உருவாக்கி வருகிறார் பாலா. ஆனாலும், படப்பிடிப்பு நடந்தது மொத்தம் 369 நாட்கள்தானாம். ஆர்யா, பூஜா தவிர்த்து படத்தில் 50க்கும் மேற்பட்ட புதுமுகங்கள் நடிக்கிறார்கள். இவர்களில் பலர் நிஜமான மன நோயாளிகள். ஊடல் ஊனமுற்ற பிச்சைக்காரர்கள். இவர்களை நடிக்க வைப்பதற்கு பெரும் பிரயத்தனம் எடுத்துக் கொண்டாராம் பாலா. இதன் காரணமாகவும், பெரிய குளம் ஏரியாவில் எப்போதாவது தலை காட்டும் வெயிலாலும்தான் படப்பிடிப்பு தாமதமானது என்கிறார்கள் யூனிட்டில்.

ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் பாலாவிடம் அடி, உதை, வாங்கிக் கொண்டு ஒரு தவம் மாதிரி நான் கடவுளை முடித்துக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார் ஆர்யா. தினமும் மூன்று வேளை தொழுகிற வழக்கம் உள்ள ஆர்யா, இவ்வளவு களேபரத்திற்கும் நடுவிலும் தனது தொழுகையை தொடர்ந்தாராம். இதற்காக அவருக்கு நேரத்தையும் ஒதுக்கிக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார் பாலா.

"அடிப்படையில் ஒரு முஸ்லீமாக இருந்தாலும், மூன்று வருடங்களாக தாடியையும், மீசையையும் வளர்த்துக் கொண்டு, குளிரிலும், பனியிலும் நைந்து தேய்ந்துதான் ஒரு இந்து சாமியாராக வாழ்ந்து காட்டியிருக்கிறார் ஆர்யா. டீ, காபி குடிக்க வேண்டும் என்றாலும், அவர் தனது மீசை தாடியை ஒதுக்கிக் கொண்டு குடிக்கிற அவஸ்தையை பக்கத்தில் இருந்து பார்ப்பவர்களால் மட்டுமே உணர முடியும். இந்த படத்திற்காக ஆர்யா இழந்த படங்களும் ஏராளம். அப்படிப்பட்டவரை பாராட்டுவதை விட்டு விட்டு பழி சுமத்துவதை எப்படி ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள முடியும்?" என்கிறார்கள் பாலாவின் யூனிட்டில்.

"எந்த மதத்தையும் இழிவு படுத்துகிற படம் இல்லை நான் கடவுள். ஆர்யா முஸ்லீம். அவர் எப்படி இந்து சாமியாராக நடிக்கலாம்? என்று கேள்வி எழுப்புகிறவர்களுக்கு எனது பதில் இதுதான். பிரேம் நசீர் முஸ்லீம்தான். இந்து மதத்தை உயர்த்திப்பிடிக்கும் எத்தனையோ பாத்திரங்களில் அவர் நடிக்கவில்லையா? மதத்தால் முஸ்லீமான குஷ்பு, எத்தனையோ படங்களில் அம்மன் வேடத்தில் நடித்து இந்து மதத்திற்கு பெருமை சேர்க்கவில்லையா? கலைக்கு ஏது மதமும், ஜாதியும்?"

சரி, முதல் பாரா சஸ்பென்சுக்கு வருவோம். இளையராஜா பாலாவிடம் என்னதான் சொன்னார்? ஒரு முழு நாள் அமைதிக்கு பிறகு அவர் சொன்னது இதுதான். "என்னாலே பேசவே முடியலே. இந்த படத்தை உலகமே கொண்டாட போவுது பாரு...!"

காமெடி வேடங்களில் நடித்து வந்த கருணாஸ், ஹீரோவாகவும் பிரமோஷன் ஆனார். தற்போது மேலும் ஒரு புரமோஷன். லாரன்ஸ், மீனாட்சி நடிக்கும் 'ராஜாதிராஜா' படத்திற்கு இவர்தான் இசையமைப்பாளர். பால் ஜே என்ற இசையமைப்பாளருடன் சேர்ந்து இசையமைக்கிறாராம்.

இவரும் பால் ஜேவும் ஆரம்ப கால நண்பர்கள். இத்தனை வருட நட்பில் இருவரும் சேர்ந்து ஏராளமான கச்சேரிகள் செய்திருக்கிறார்கள். இடையில் 'கிழக்கு கடற்கரை சாலை', '365 காதல் கடிதங்கள்' ஆகிய படங்களுக்கு இசையமைத்திருந்தார் பால் ஜே. இருவரும் சேர்ந்து படங்களுக்கு இசையமைப்பது இதுவே முதல் முறை.

தானே இயற்றி இசையமைத்துப் பாடிய கானா பாடல் ஒன்றை 'ராஜாதிராஜா'வில் இடம் பெற வைத்திருக்கிறார் கருணாஸ். வாளமீனுக்கு பாடல் எல்லாம் எம்மாத்திரம் என்கிறார்கள் இதைக் கேட்டவர்கள். இப்படத்திற்கு இதற்கு முன்பு இசையமைப்பாளராக ஒப்பந்தம் ஆனவர் தினா என்பது கவனிக்கத்தக்கது.

பெரும் வெற்றி பெற்ற நான் அவனில்லை ரீமேக்கின் 2ம் பாகம் விரைவில் எடுக்கப்படவுள்ளது.

1974ம் ஆண்டு கே.பாலச்சந்தரின் இயக்கம், ஜெமினி கணேசனின் நடிப்பில் உருவாகிய படம் நான் அவனில்லை.

இப்படத்தை பாலச்சந்தரின் சிஷ்யரான செல்வா, ஜீவனை வைத்து ரீமேக் செய்தார். இப்படத்தில் பிளேபாய் கேரக்டரில் கலக்கி ஜீவனுக்கு ஜோடியாக நமீதா, சினேகா, கீர்த்தி சாவ்லா, தேஜாமயி, மாளவிகா ஆகியோர் நடித்தனர்.

பெரும் வெற்றி பெற்ற இப்படத்தின் 2ம் பாகத்தை இப்போது செல்வா இயக்கவுள்ளார். ஜீவனே நாயகனாக நடிக்கிறார். ஆனால் முதல் படத்தில் நடித்த ஐந்து ஹீரோயின்களும் இப்படத்தில் இல்லையாம்.

ஐந்து நாயகிகளையும் ஏமாற்றிய பின்னர் கதாநாயகன் வெளிநாட்டுக்குத் தப்பி ஓடுவதாகவும், அங்கு அவன் செய்யும் லீலைகளையும் 2ம் பாகமாக எடுக்கவுள்ளாராம் செல்வா.

இப்படத்தின் ஷூட்டிங் மார்ச் மாதத்தில் தொடங்குகிறது. இப்படத்தையும் ஹிதேஷ் ஜபக்கே தயாரிக்கவுள்ளாராம்.

சென்னை ஜன-31. விஜயின் 50ஆம் படத்திற்கு டைட்டில் வைப்பது தொடர்பாக விஜய், சிம்புவுக்கு இடையே பனிப்போர் நடந்துவருகிறது. மாதேஷ் பதிவு செய்து வைத்திருக்கும் எம்ஜிஆர் என்ற டைட்டிலை தனது 50ஆம் படத்திற்காக வாங்கிவிட்டார் விஜய்.

After a lull, Prashanth is poised to bounce back with his mammoth home production, ‘Mambattiyaan.’

Here is one actor who can exit the arena at will, enter after a hiatus and continue from where he left off. He has proved it time and again. Like he did during the making of Shankar’s ‘Jeans!’ The film took two years to be completed and he resolutely avoided offers till the project was over. The film in which he played a dual role with Aishwarya Rai as his heroine was a hit, and the gamble paid off. What if the film had bombed? “A crazy risk, you could call it, but with a solid production house to back me and a dad who is also a distributor and producer, I could afford the risk,” laughs Prashanth who is back in action with his fast-progressing ‘Mambattiyaan,’ a remake of the grosser of ‘Malaiyur Mambattiyaan’ in which his father Thyagarajan was hero.

“Why just ‘Jeans’? I gave a year for ‘Kalloori Vaasal’ and a lot of time for Mani Ratnam’s ‘Thiruda Thiruda.’ As I said thanks to dad I can do things my way,” says Prashanth. It is also true that there have been periods when he has simultaneously acted in four films. “I can manage both ways of working,” he says.

Yet in the past three years he has been completely out of circulation … “That again was purely by choice. The problems on the marital front had to be sorted out. Those things would have upset shooting schedules and I didn’t want others to suffer because of me,” he explains, and almost immediately announces, “But now I’m back with a bang.”

The talkie portion of ‘Mambattiyaan’ is over. Action and song sequences alone remain. A proven money spinner, ‘Mambattiyaan’ should mark a successful re-entry for Prashanth. “I’m confident,” he smiles. “This is the silver jubilee year of the original, ‘Malaiyur Mambattiyaan.’ Probably for the first time in the history of cinema, an actor who played the lead role is directing the film, this time round with his son as hero!” Prashanth punctuates all his lines with references to his dad so much so that you feel he goes overboard at times. “Not at all! He has been my buffer zone and takes all the brickbats so that I can live in peace. And now he’s my director too,” he justifies.

‘Mambattiyaan’ boasts of an imposing cast. Prashanth is paired with Meera Jasmine and the role Jaishanker did in the original is being donned by Prakash Raj. Vadivelu will be seen in Goundamani’s part. Remember Jayamalini in the old ‘… Mambattiyaan?’ “Ah! Here we’ll have Mumaith Khan,” laughs Prashanth.

“Dad is introducing a new camera man, Anil Sekar. He’s doing a splendid job, and as a producer dad has provided him with the best of equipment,” says Prashanth. And the composer? “Let there be some suspense,” he chuckles.

For more than a year the production and technical crew discussed and planned the entire making of the film to the last detail. “If the paper work is perfect, the making is automatically smooth,” he notes.

Those who have watched the earlier ‘… Mambattiyaan’ know that it’s the true story of a Robin Hood kind of character. Thyagarajan had heard the story of Mambattiyaan being sung in one of the villages. He probed further and learnt about the life of the man, and the story of the film was born. “The black trousers, shirt and even the belt that dad had designed and sported in ‘Malaiyur Mambattiyaan’ was what ‘Sandalwood’ Veerappan aped in real life later on. Aren’t you shocked?”

Prashanth is all praise for his co-star Meera Jasmine, Prakash Raj and Vadivelu. “They’ve been co-operative and always punctual. Meera has won two National awards. But on the sets she’s still an ardent learner. We’ve even had 20 rehearsals before a shot and not once has she cribbed even a little. A complete professional,” he certifies.

Prashanth has worked in four movies with Prakash Raj, including the well-made film, ‘Appu.’ “Also, my father has acted with him in Kannada films. So their association goes back a long way.”

Again Vadivelu with whom Prashanth has done some unforgettable comedy (who can forget the duo in ‘Winner?’) has been an “amazing support,” says Prashanth.

The actor increases your curiosity when he says that ‘Mambattiyaan’ has been shot in the most inaccessible terrains and forests in the Tamil Nadu-Kerala-Karnataka borders and, hold your breath, in the exact places where Veerappan had held Kannada actor Rajkumar hostage! “Watching the action in virgin locations will be a spell-binding experience,” Prashanth assures.

His last couple of releases, ‘Thagappansami’ and ‘Adaikkalam’ had remarkable stories and excellent portrayals but sank without a trace. Prashanth attributes it to the wrong time of release and lack of publicity. “No product can be sold without promotional campaigns. Our own ‘Jai’ was a dampener due to various other reasons. It was destiny, but we bounced back with ‘Shock,’ a major success. ‘Ponnar Shankar,’ which we hope to begin after ‘Mambattiyaan,’ will be a magnum opus from our banner. With 31 major artists, 100 known faces and eight battle sequences it has been envisaged as a film on a mind boggling scale,” he informs.

But before all that ‘Mambattiyaan’ is gearing up for a success sojourn. “The technical quality and the changes we have made will make the new ‘Mamabattiyaan’ 10,000 times fresher than the original version … a Kohinoor diamond in my acting career.” Prashanth smiles with oodles of confidence!

Kollywood producers crack the whip

Hats off to Tamil Film Producers Council(TFPC) and its chief Ramanarayanan. Last Sunday at an emergency meeting of the council, they passed a few resolutions to bring down the cost in a recession hit film industry. The Tamil film industry is going through bad tines as the flops far outnumber the hits.

Here are the highlights of the far reaching changes the TFPC has brought about in the industry. If these revolutionary changes are implemented, filmmaking in Kollywood would not only improve but also turn profitable.

* Big budget star movies can only release during festival season or National holidays (Pongal, Republic Day (January 26) Tamil New Year (April 14), May Day(May 1), Independence Day (August 15), Diwali, Ramzan, Christmas. Any film that releases with 80 or more prints and digital format is considered big.

* Small films are those with less than 80 prints, and two of them as per their date of censor can release every week. Not more than two films can be released per week. The council also decided to provide a subsidy of Rs 2 lakhs to films that only release in 24 screens or less. TFPC will regulate the release date.

*Artists who have delivered a flop are asked to give priority dates to the same producer if he wants to start his next film and recoup his losses. The artists have to give dates according to the payment received, and can’t jump the queue to favour any new producer.

* Artists date coordination will be directly with the star and not through his/ her manager.

* Perhaps the most important resolution is that henceforth for a small film a maximum of only 75 film rolls can be used, and 125 rolls for big movies, during production. This will cut down the excessive film rolls used by certain directors, known to consume 300 plus rolls while making a film. The producer can now complain to the TFPC if a particular director exceeds the stipulated limit.

The new resolutions will come into effect immediately

ஆனால் இது சுத்தமான வதந்தி என்று நடுநிலையாளர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர். எந்தக் காலத்தில் இருந்து கொண்டு ஆசினைப் பற்றி இப்படிப் பேசுகிறார்கள் இவர்கள் என்கிறார்கள் இந்த நடுநிலையாளர்கள்.

ஆசின் முன்னணிக்கு வருவதைப் பிடிக்காதவர்களே இப்படி வதந்தியை கிளப்பி விடுவதாக ஆசின் தரப்பு புலம்புகிறதாம்.

Stuntman Rambo Rajkumar is no more

One of the leading stunt masters in south Indian films, Rambo Rajkumar died of a heart attack in Hyderabad on Saturday (April 25).

It was during the shoot of a Telugu untitled film (remake of Polladhavan) that he suffered a major attack and was taken to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Rambo Rajkumar (53) had done over 450 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. Rajkumar had an unique style of realistic close combat fight scenes, like what Sylvester Stallone did in Rambo, hence the prefix ‘Rambo’ to his name. He is the son of stuntman TK Parameswar who had done MGR films.

He was a favourite of Selvaraghavan, and his work in his films like Kathal Kondein, Pudhupettai was appreciated. He is the one man behind all that fantastic action scenes that you will see in Aayirathil Oruvan. Today’s top stuntmen like Kanal Kannan has worked as assistant to Rajkumar.

Last week Rajkumar’s son Nava Kanth was launched as hero in Tambhi Ramaya’s (Indira Lokathil Na Azhgappan director) new film Oru Koodai Mutham.

Now, this has got to be news that will give the Eelam a new twist. Actor Prakash Raj, who is known for portrayal for different roles in a career that spans Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, apart from Bollywood, has established himself as a bankable character artiste. The actor has now revealed that he will soon be playing LTTE chief in a film!

Speaking about it at a cultural function held in Karnataka, the actor has said that he has received an offer to play the role of Prabakaran in a film. Given that he liked the role, the actor is said to have agreed to it and is working on the mannerisms of Prabakaran to play his character.

While Prakash Raj revealed that he has been approached to do the role, it is not clear about who approached him or who is producing the film. Prakash Raj is currently working on Thankar Bachchan’s 'Kalavadiya Pozhudhugal', apart from acting in Vijay’s 'Vettaikkaran' and Suriya’s 'Singam'.[/tscii:a9c07e7b43]

Fox Star Studios enters Tamil film industry with Murugadoss

Fox Star Studios has announced its foray into the Tamil film industry by signing an exclusive deal with&aposGhajini&aposdirector A R Murugadoss.

Murugadoss is an acclaimed director in Tamil industry with a track record of five blockbuster hits in row with superstars like Chiranjeevi, Surya and Ajith.

His first Hindi film Aamir Khan starrer"Ghajini"went on to become the highest grossers at the box office crossing USD 40 million.

Murugadoss said that the association with Fox Star gives him a chance to use his association with Tamil film industry to tell exciting new stories with the established stars and also promote new talent.

"The partnership will also bring to Tamil cinema, learnings from the best technical and creative people, from around the world,"he said.

His deal with Fox Star Studios includes development and production of Tamil films. Murugadoss will play the role of a creative producer.

பொதுவாக எந்த விழாக்களிலும் கலந்து கொள்ள மாட்டார் இசைஞானி இளையராஜா. அது அவரே இசையமைத்த படங்களின் விழாவாக இருந்தாலும்!

அப்படிப்பட்டவர், வால்மீகி படத்தின் ஆடியோ வெளியீட்டு விழாவில் கலந்து கொண்டார். மேடையில் பேசிய மிஷ்கின் இளையராஜாவை உயர்த்தி பேசும் நோக்கத்துடன் சில வார்த்தைகள் பேச, பின்னாலேயே மைக் பிடித்த இசைஞானிக்கு பொத்துக் கொண்டு வந்தது கோபம்.
