I didn't know where to post this Question so I put it in this one.
Guys, I would like to know if it is ok to apply Olive OIl on the hair?

I ran short of the usual Cocunut oil I apply on my hair . So, I was wondering if this is ok?
I have a severe Dandruff problem (dry scalp not flakes) So, I need to apply oil on the head at a regular basis.

Thanks!
Alan

In general Olive oil can be used as hair oil. I had used a Olive oil based hair tonic (Tampcol produced by Tamilnadu Medicinal Plant Farms & Herbal Medicine Corporation Ltd.) long time ago. Now also I use it some times as head and body massage for my kids.

Even though it is very safe based on my experience, you should apply very little quantity and check yourself before using it daily in large quantity

Please check twice before you start using Olive oil. I was using Olive oil when I was in Germany as Coconut oil was costly :) but I figured out, I had more of white hairs after I started using it.

Which brand did you use and from which land?
The olive oil is actually meant for dressing salads and not for hair. Nobody see your hair in the stomach when they turn white.

And no one use oil for hair except fresh foreigners from India and Srilanka!

yes, you CAN use olive oil on your scalp especially if u have a dry scalp, use warm olive oil.

Hair specialists actually instructs you to either apply warm olive oil alone or 1:1 with coconut oil. it enhances the hair roots and works as a conditioner for scalp. Try getting a refined one so that it is not sticky.

Sivajayan, there are reasons for using oil on hair in countries like India and Srilanka.

1. When hair is exposed to too much of sunlight, the hair colour gets lighter, to avoid this oil is applied...

2. Oil is also applied to cool down the body.

3. Like Cindy said, oil is applied for dry scalp....

I am out of the country for more than seven years now and I still apply oil to my hair twice a week and wash it off and I apply olive oil to my skin to avoid dry skin!

It ought to be a joke only! Cool down ladies and gentlemen.

Regrdless from where you are comming from they don't apply pure oil to the hair here in middle Europe. You mostly use creams that contains not only oil.

On my visit to India I learnt that people use "nalla ennei". I guess it is made of sesame.

Sivajayan: No, Most Europeans don't apply pure oil to the hair. But shampoos based on coconut oil is widely available in the market. We do it differently, that is it.

I have Irish friends who have asked me to buy coconut oil so that they can do what I do too.... apply oil, soak and wash it off!

My Egyptian friend and his Irish wife apply oil on their hair too. In certain cultures, specially where it is very hot, oil is applied on the hair because as it is said that it cools down your body.

If all cultures and all people were the same, then it would be boring wouldn't it? Where would you learn new things? I don't think there is anything to laugh about how things are done in a particular way in a particular place.

Oh dear,
I did say that there is oil in there. If I may reapeat it once again: You mostly use creams that contains not only oil. There is not only one oil but it is a cocktail of oils.

By the way there is a palm called Elaeis guineensis which used for cosmetica.

Last but not least, I neither laugh at or about others nor I look up or down. I am simply above all and beneath nothing even if it sounds arrogant
