[tscii:d95de72c62]It was a wonderful idea conceived by our previous generation…. But remained an idea only.. Infact … Mahakavi Barathi also had dreamt about it……
The kind of public money being spent on drought
The kind of public money being spent on floods . Money being spent on disaster recovery is astounding….
If they can be used productively to nationalize the rivers…
More employment can be generated
ATLEAST THE NEXT GENERATION WILL REAP THE BENEFITS OF THE EFFORTS OF THE CURRENT GENERATION
The great Abdul Kalam himself is very positive on this aspect but he cannot do anything above the Politicians….
Will it continue be a dream even during our times also ??
I know for sure, it’s a very long long term project… but lets make a beginning atleast now…

Balaji,
The environemntal impact has to be analyzed and also, issues such as displacement of people from their habitations, possible disturbances in the eco-balance, soil fertility, feasilbility studies and studying cases in the world where this has been successfully implemented is absolutely mandatory before undertaking this venture. Merely proclaiming this as a great idea is just romanticising.

AA,
Are we stopping the Ecologists or the Geologists from doing feasibility studies ?
Agreed.... bringing it up to Deccan pleateau itself will be a herculean task...
My point is, why this issue had been put to coldstorage....
Why cant.. this be taken up on an experimental basis between some neighbouring States in North India
If such an attempt had been made atleast 25 years before, today, OUR GENERATION WOULD HAVE SEEN SOME LIGHT....

[tscii:ff625e9db6]MGR started on a very sincere note….. when he negotiated with NTR…. And successfully worked on Telugu Ganga…. Bringing Krishna water to Chennai….( atleast this man had done some good to Tamil Nadu )…
Today I see this project virtually through…… Andhra’s dry regions getting benefited…. And some water coming to Chennai…..Even if does not benefit Chennai also… atleast a portion of Andhra’s Rayalaseema and all got something out of it…
If Krishna gets more waterflows…. It may benefit 3 States… Maharashtra… AP and finally TN…..( unfortunately, Krishna is not that flowing now a days… )
I heard Puttabarthi Shri Satya Sai Babaji… had also contributed and made efforts to do good for this project….
If all other States also take care of their neighbouring ones….
We can see a great India…….for the future generation…..

The project is sure progressing. As you said starting with some North Indian states. Rajestan and Madya Pradesh are implementing the project.
But we need to speed up the process and this will not only help the country tackle natural disaster but also contribute to indian economy. The greatest beneficiaries will be the people in rural sector and hense will act as a catalist to proverty elimination.

Sandeep,
Correct. The kind of job opportunities it can generate to the rural people will be immense. Besides , all the core sector industries will benefit.
It involves huge budgeting exercise but ultimately the end use of resources will be for the Country's development..
Its a long term project...
BJP govt created a dept exclusively for this purpose but I believe this function is inactive now..

Anyway the present govt is contemplating the introduction of 100 day compulsury work for the poor. This is a very good project where money can be invested. Also there are options like "food for work" etc.
