Ash's performance is mind-blowing

Send Aishwarya Rai EcardsDirector Jagmohan Mundhra has clarified that Raju
Kher's WOW, has no
similarity whatsoever to his forthcoming Aishwarya starrer, PROVOKED, based on
Kiranjitsingh
Alhuwalia's life. "It is ridiculous that people are drawing parallels between
the two films
without knowing their stories. The fact is that PROVOKED is a story on marital abuse based on
Kiranjit Alhuwalia's A CIRCLE OF LIGHTS, of which we acquired the exclusive
rights. On the
other hand, from what I know of WOW, the film tells the story of three girls who
go to London
to pursue their dream of starting their own music band. Anupam Kher helps them
fulfill their
dream and offers them shelter at his home. The similarity is only to the extent
that one of the
three girls in WOW has a story of marital discord. I am surprised that no one
has bothered to
check out the facts either with me or Kher's office before writing about it,"
Mundhra reveals.
Mundhra recently wrapped up the shooting of the film and is now in Chennai with
A. R. Rahman,
who is doing the background score for the film.
In fact,
according to Mundhra, Rahman was among the first few people besides Aishwarya
Rai's father, who
saw the film and were totally impressed with her performance in it. "She has
given a truly
exemplary performance. There's no trace of the Miss World and not even an iota
of
self-consciousness in her effortless performance. Music director Rahman was all
admiration for
her performance but the biggest compliment for Aishwarya was from her father,
who was so
engrossed in the film that he almost forgot that it was his daughter who was
performing on
screen," Mundhra recalled.
PROVOKED is being lined up for a mid-November release, according to Mundhra. "We
are looking at
a huge international release for the film in conjunction with the distributors,"
he says.

[tscii:7358cf3ffa]Provoked to be dubbed in three Indian languages

Even while Provoked prepares for its world-wide release, producer Dr J. Murli Manohar has different plans for India. “Since the theme of domestic violence is as relevant in the West as in a remote village of Punjab or Bihar or Tamil Nadu we'd like Provoked to go into places that are ideally not seen as commercially viable for English language films. We therefore plan to dub Provoked into Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.”
Added to the three Indian versions of Provoked, the film will have a new background score.
Commenting on this, music composer for the film A R Rahman says, “I don't think such a thing has ever been done before. But Jagmohan Mundhra and I felt the current music score is too underplayed for the Indian market. In the new version, we like the music to emphasize every scene. We spoke about it, and I got another background score ready for the Indian market.”
The film is expected to be released in India in August.

WOW just listened to the 4 tracks. Amazing tunes and orchestrations.
This is my first attempt at reviewing an album. I realize that I shouldnt review without buying the original CD but its not released here yet. I just wanted to share my thoughts with my fellow hubbers. Whenever you guys need a break from Sivaji there is an album made just for that -- provoked.
"Save You" -- this one has amazing main melody; the chords that accompany this soothing melody does wonders to ur ears.
-->Scintillating moments: 0:16-0:30; 0:51-1:05; 2:48-2:58 (here the chords r so soothing and powerful at the same time) A special mention to Karen David for her amazing vocal. (didnt pay attention to the lyrics, just listening to music)
********** 10/10
"Carry Me Home" -- this track has nice tabla beats accompanying a pure western melody, very rare to hear.
-->Scintillating moments: 2:07-2:35
******** 8/10
"Shillong" -- this sounds so Indian, classical Rahman style. the hindustani vocals at 0:33-0:42 is just too good. also the main beat that starts right after that and continues through the song is very fresh and keeps one hooked to the song. The beat stops in between but only to be replaced by a lovely melody "Shillong Shillong my love...." 1:48-1:59. The only part I dont like is the starting (0:00-0:10 and 4:35-4:46). I dunno why I dont like this part, it just sounds weird (maybe because i didnt listen to song many times but still, there shouldnt be a part in a Rahman song that I shouldnt like). I think its just the voice, she sings it in a rap? style. But the composition is fantastic, classy.
-->Scintillating moments: 0:33-0:42; 1:48-1:59;
*********(.5*) 9.5/10
"Alive" -- this song has a nice piano harmony. Vocal is amazing once again and the melody is awesome especially the high octave parts. In these parts Rahman shows his talent by infusing huge amount of energy in a sad part.
-->Scintillating moments: 1:26-1:27 & 3:20-3:24 (the part that leads to the high octave singing, like a vaccuum sound and it sucks u right in); 1:28-1:58 (awesome singing and melody)
********(.5*) 8.5/10
Overall: 9/10 Unbelievable emotion in these songs. It is pure music and who cares about the mass (Shillong Shillong will appeal to the masses though) Hope this releases in tamil.

I think "Save you" was not composed by Rahman. Only the other three songs.

It sounds like an AR Rahman composition. I am really sure it is. Even if the main melody is not composed by him (which i think it is), the orchestration is surely by him, no doubt.

Karen David is a South Asian Canadian R&B singer and also an actress who had sung and acted in Aishwarya Rai starrer ‘Provoked’. For the song she has collaborated with legendary Indian composer A R Rahman for ‘Alive’ who has done the music for the soundtrack.
Karen is a multi-talented born in Shillong and raised in Toronto by a half Chinese mother and a father from Madras. At 17, she won a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College Of Music in Boston to study jazz and gospel, where she discovered her flair for songwriting. Karen is currently completing her debut album entitled ‘Me Versus Me’, working with an exciting multi-cultural team that includes A R Rahman and the Bombay Dub Orchestra. Karen's first single from her forthcoming album, ‘I Need You’, has become an instant hit with Karen's South Asian fans, in part because it samples Alka Yagnik's ‘Choli Ke Peeche’ classic Bollywood tune.
