[tscii:1ddb2d651d]This is what the message sent to Kofi Annan says. Hope 'Filter Kofi' gets bowled over by this mail:

Which has Best Littérateur. A language without any grammatical mistakes and the language in which a recorded audio message was sent in Colambia space craft.

For your Information Tamil is the Offical language in more than a country. Its an Official language in India, Srilanka, Singapore and Malaysia.

More than 70 million people are speaking Tamil in India and Srilanka alone. And Tamilians are spread all over the world.SO think about the polulation of Tamilians in rest of the world.

Tamil is the language which has given "Thirukural" the poetry which is common for all the relegions and for all the countries. This Thirukural is the second book that have been translated in more languages where Bible stands first. Bible is the holy book only for Christian community but this Thirukural can be kept as Holy book for all the relegions and for all the communities in the world.

It is astonishing and unfortunate that with about 75 million speakers, Tamilis no where in this list. Let me put forward the case for the most widely spoken language in 4 countries of the world what about the other 196 countries?

1. Absolute Number of Speakers

Since we are increasingly living in a global society, the sheer number of speakers for Tamil definitely bolsters its bid. Many languages spoken through out the Sounth India closely resemble Tamil and it has a wide audience, both core and peripheral. Moreover, Tamil is the language of wider communication (LWC) for many parts of the world. err...is there a connection between TCP/IP and Tamil?

2. Global Reach
Although it could be questioned whether this criteria is being met currently by Arabic, Russian and Chinese on the UN list, our purpose simply is to put forward a case for Tamil and not torpedo that of other languages.

3. Reach and effectiveness of UN
Tamil with more then with 75 million speakers, must be included, If we are making serious effort for an effective United Nation. The some of the languages, have fewer speaker then Tamil, then why Not Tamil. Idhu Nyayamaana kelvi !

Apart from the sub-continent,Singapore,Srilanka and Malaysia, Tamil has considerable speakers in South East Asia, Africa, Western Europe, Australasia and North America.

We hope that you would seriously give a thought to the injustice being handed to Tamil by excluding it from the official UN languages list. The UN would do the world a much greater service were it to hold out its hand and reach out more effectively to the Tamil speakers of the world.

Sincerely,
Undersinged Tamizhukkaaga thee-kulichavara ?[/tscii:1ddb2d651d]

1. it is good to promote one's mother tongue
2. I am not sure if UN makes its decisions on public demand
3. But no doubt, the points of the letter are quite brilliant
4. I have signed my name at the bottom of the list. What about you?
5. Even if Kofi refuses, just point out that his surname itself has been borrowed from Tamil - it will surely tilt the scales in our favor :D

what is ironic is that you people were all screaming when someone posted a petition saying that Hindi should be made an official UN language...since it is the national langauge of our country, India.
