Laurel and Hardy were always placed higher than Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.
We must not forget the Three Stooges.
Harrold LLoyd was once on top.
Buster Keaton never spoke a word but with his melancholic looks and acting, made people laugh.
What about the Marx Brothers? Gorucho's mustache was a trademark.
The 'Yes Minister' and 'Yes Prime Minister' series are tops.
Mind Your Language - the first series is very enjoyable.

puspak should be rated as one of the modern day classics from india-great concept and brilliant fair.
even today sitting in my lab i think of those hilarious moments from the movie, almost every scene right
from kamal waiting outside the toilet in a qeue to get in and the irony when he gets all the 3 and he
choosing the "clean one", packaging s!!t in a scented box, also the rendezevous of prathap and tinnu
anand-at the discotheque-throwing their tie over the left shoulder for signalling that contacts have
arrived. really funny alas the indian crowd never appreciated a genius of a movie....whata a shame

Some more Tamil comedy films:
Sabaapathi - This is the film where T.R.Ramachandran made his debut as an actor. He acted the hero's part of a spoiled and pampered rich teen-ager.
This was the first full length comedy in Tamil.
Nalla Thamby - N.S.Krishnan, T.A.Madhram, PuLimuuttai Raamasaamy, Kaakaa RadhaKrishnan, Sahasranaamam, Bhanumathi.
Although this is supposed to be full-length comedy, it was also very serious in promoting reformistic ideas, socialism, Gandhism, etc.
This was the first picture that NSK acted, after his jail term and a subsequent visit to Soviet Russia.
The memorable segments in this film are the 'Madhu Olzhippu theruk kuuththu' and 'Kindhanaar Kadhaa Kalatchebam'.
A very notable Tamil politician had addressed NSK as a 'KOmaaLi'.
NSK rebukes him by singing
'Naattukku sEvai seyya naagariigak kOmaaLi vandhaanaiyaa!
Aattamaadi paattuppaadi nalla alzhagaana jadhaiyOdu vandhaanaiyya!
MOttaarai vittiringgi vandhaaniyyaa!
Munkudumi siivikkittu vandhanayaa!, etc.
The film was hit.
And also a controversy.

Charlie Chaplin's "Modern Times" and "The Great Dictator" are my all time favorites. Other memorables include: Walter Mathau- Jack Lemmon movies, " The odd couple", "The Front Page" etc. Cho-Nagesh pair was very good in "thEn mazhai" etc. NSK. Mathuram in "Yaar paiyan" almost all Chandra Babu roles, Nagesh-Balaiya in "kaadhalikka nEramillai", Peter Sellers in "The Party", Kamal's Palghat role in "Michael Madana Kamarajan".

a few of my favourite rib-ticklers:
- Father of the Bride: great turn by steve martin as the perpetually worrying father
- Look who's talking: beautiful film, don't know if it qualifies as an out-and-out comedy, but extremely entertaining nevertheless
- The Gods must be crazy: amazing movie, especially the parts that show the tribal headman heading to the end of the world.
- Tootsie: smashing performance by dustin hoffman in an avvai shanmugi-type role.
- See no Evil, Hear no Evil: the gene wilder-richard pryor duo at their best, as a deaf-blind pair who keep getting into the most hilarious situations.
- My Cousin Vinny: great courtroom scenes, a really funny joe pesci and marisa tomei at her best (didn't she win an oscar for this?)
- Without a Clue: a superb spoof on the sherlock holmes legend. michael caine plays the bungling detective who just can't get it right, while ben kingsley as watson is projected as the real *brain* behind their cases.

I think leading the pack should be
My cousin Vinny...Loved the movie.
I usually like Billy Crystal's movies..he is a great comedian..not too many movies of his are not worth watching.
Monsters Inc...I dont really know if this is can be classified as an out and out comedy movie but for me this is a great comedy and its also my most fav animated movie of all times.
Of course apart from this I do like the usual Gods must be crazy and the mask and such movies.

Ocean's 11/12
'Ocean's 11' was fabulous ... solid entertainment. i generally like watching these heist movies, and this was one of the better ones in that genre, although i got the feeling the film relied a little too much on its star value. really don't know if i'd have taken the trouble to watch if it hadn't been for all those big names in the cast.
haven't seen 'Ocean's 12', but heard it wasn't as good as its predecessor. did they have the same ensemble cast as for the first film?

(Walks again, pretends to throw the ring into a volcano, turns back)

WAAH!!! :redjump: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with Robert Downey Jr, and Val Kilmer! I saw it again a couple nights ago on DVD! THE MOVIE ROCKS MY SOCKS! :bluejump:
It's about a small time crook who accidently gets selected to star in a Hollywood flick, so he comes down to LA from the East Coast. 3 Corpses and 2 nights later, the most bizaar turnover makes the movie a hilarious 1.5 hour ride!
A Memorable Line:
Val Kilmer: U LOOK UP IDIOT IN THE DICTIONARY, U KNOW WHAT U'D FIND?
Robert Downey Jr.: A PICTURE OF ME?
Val Kilmer: NO THE DEFINITION OF AN IDIOT WHICH IS WHAT U FUC*ING ARE!! :rotfl:
Uh...U had to be there..but yeah, awesome movie! 8-)

In English, I'll name a personal favorite: As Good as it gets.
Another film that *s the eternal Jack, and made by Milos forman, which truly goes beyond the genre - One flew over the cuckoo's nest. It's the most consistent comedy film that ripped me apart with the denouement.
