And 'mazaikuruvi' was a term we used at the time of those discussions :D ;)

From where did u dowonload e-kalappai? Have you got the uni code option in that or only the Tscii keyman? If you got all three and the proper Tsc fonts you will not need anything else to read or write Tamil. Browser settings eppadi irunthaalum padikkalaam.

I am not sure of the versions. Just check this link below. In that under 'how to view in Tamil' - click the links - 'download this file' and 'download e-kalappai'. From the first link you need to download the fonts and from the next - you can download e-kalappai. For me it worked only after downloading the fonts and e-kalappai separately. Once it is done you will not have any hassles viewing or writing Tamil.

"செம்புலப் பெயநீர் போல" – என்பது பல பாடல்களில் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. எனக்கு தெரிந்தவரை எல்லா பாடல்களிலும் காதலன் – காதலி அல்லது கணவன் – மனைவி உறவை உவமிக்கவே அந்தக் குறிப்பை பயன்படுத்தி இருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் கண்ணதாசன் மட்டும் ‘செம்மண்ணிலே தண்ணீரை போல் உண்டான சொந்தம் இது’ என்று அண்ணன் – தங்கை உறவை பாடுகிறார் ( ஒரு தங்கரததில் பொன் மஞ்சல் நிலவு – தர்மயுத்தம்).

I remember this debate as if it happened yesterday! :)

I think it's acceptable for this example to be used for non-biological brothers/sisters. That they have merged to become one family to reflect that family's traits and characters. That's where the poet stands by using this example which is known for lovers and couples for the brothers and sisters. But logically, it's only acceptable. As I believe that the characters are very much influenced by environmental forces and brought up, more than the genetic element. So, if they are brought up together from their young childhood, either they both grow out to be either 'nilam' or 'neer'. All said and done, any two humanbeings are very different from each other, so in that sense we are like red earth and water, quite differen from each othert. If we take that uvamai to represent the origin of the two things (earth and water) then it cannot be applied to brothers or sisters, however, if we think of it as an uvamai to explain two individuals coming to gether in mind and soul, yes it is acceptable. I think if we are not stuck in the analogy as the physical body's origins, then this uvamai is perfect for any close relationship. Just my 2 paisa worth view. :)

Nerunji paLam kuRaL reminds me one of the fairy tales where the queen checks whether a stranger is a princess by putting a pea under fourteen stacked mattresses. When the stranger complains next day about not being able to sleep becuase of the lump in mattress, the queen knows she is a real princess.

I am sure this kuRaL must have been aimed at the upper strata of the women.

On the other hand, if the stomach is the shortest route to a man's heart, a foot massage is the shortest path to a woman's heart. ThirivaLLuvar is correct in that respect.
