[tscii:2ccdfa8e3a]Censor vs High court vs suryA!!!
Well, if some 'psycho' goes from Thamizhnadu all the way to Mumbai or Andhra to get the censor done "successfully", then I smell a rat.
Why dont these “gentlemen” take it like a man and release their movie with a deserved 'A' certificate instead of "bypassing" it ?

Still loving you all!
Tsunami comes, Tsunami goes. But whenever Bad Boy appeared all your troubles disappeared.
Yes, I can see all you smiling whenever you remember BB.
But anyhow, this hub has lost its passion without the "trouble makers (?) ". We aren't the pupils to be get beaten by the hub teachers. No, we are not! Keep on laughing even if you feel sad, that is the only cure.
I love You all!

Here is a similar news for you, Sandeep but not in Tamil. :)
Mohanlal's anti -Tamil sentiments
- 16.09.2005
The Malayalam film industry has only now returned to normalcy. Mammooty's 'Nehru Ariyaan CBI,' Mohanlal's 'Naran' and Dilip's 'Sandu Pottu,' the 3 films released to coincide with Onam, have all passed the test and had a decent run. Before that, our Tamil films 'Manmadhan,' 'Chandramukhi,' 'Arindhum Ariyamalum' and 'Anniyan' had a dream successful run in Kerala

From time immortal Tamil characters have come as dreated villians and comic characters in Malayalam movies. Mostly because malayalees can understand tamil but at the same time feel alien to it. There where dialogs like "I will show if you come to India" ( Pandipada - Dileep) which clearly mocks at separatist nature.
But beyond light hearted fun or spice for movie these are not considered seriously. As far as Mohanlal is conserned it has been a long time complaint from his own fans that he doesnt interfere with script writing or direction even if it hampers his image.

The Wheel of Life:
31.12.05
On the new year's eve
My memories roll back
To witness my own life
To reflect on the year gone
And to learn and to owe for future;
To fill my heart with content and peace
To set my new targets and paths
And to thank for what I've got;
Also to greet who I've loved and been loved by!
On every new year's eve
A year passes by
As I age by another year (my b'day)
And I realise
I'm no better, as I grow higher
And it's no less of duties and responsibilites!
In the wheel of life,
I go up and up
Away from earth
To see new heights, new roles and relationships.
I wonder when will I roll down
Close to the earth with less fear and more security!
But I realise
I eventually shall go down
But fear will be no less
As senility and death ensue!
As I cherish my thoughts
I get struck by a question -
As I travel around the wheel of life,
What has kept me intact
And attached to the centre?!
Where comes the gravity of civized human life?!
The sun that supplies the light and energy
To the earthly life is not all that difficult to feel?!
Is it Money?
I could even be fed without its help, as a baby.
Is it knowledge and education?
I gained more from the world and
I learnt to speak and walk before my Kindergarden days.
Is it fame?
What is its use, when I can't know for sure its existence!
And what holds me integrated with own self & the world
Being the central axis in the wheel of life
Is nothing but Love! -
Love that is assured to every living being at birth
From mother, father, relations, friends, colleagues and many more
Love that is multi-dimensional
Love that can't be surpassed by anyother pleasure!
And so Love is God and God is Love -
Love towards yourself and your fellow human beings!
Love that could be felt for an hungry child in Nigeria
Love that could be felt for an orphaned child in SriLanka
Love that could be felt for an injured child in Kashmir.
So, I wish and pray to love and to be loved, as ever by you all
As I am waiting to find another dimension of love in the New Year!

Aathirai's Amudasurabhi
http://www.chennaionline.com/chennaicitizen/2005/03athirai.asp
Aathirai's amudasurabhi
The proliferation of English medium schools and the invasion of satellite television have made children not even understand what
'pallikoodam' means.
It is only 'school' for these little ones. But in such a situation, there is a college goer, with a charming Tamil name, Aathirai, doing great service to Tamil and instilling confidence in people that there is no death for this
wonderful language.
She performs great programmes to showcase the greatness of Tamil, its sweetness, its vastness and its music.
When we met her one evening at her house, she spoke extensively about her love for Tamil, Tamil music, her research into the
music in Silappadikaram (pan araichi) and Tamil literature. You have a beautiful Tamil name, Aathirai
When Manimekalai got the Amudhasurabhi, she was told that for the 'begging bowl' to be always filled with food, she should get
the first 'yachagam' (contribution) from a virtuous and great woman. She took the first
contribution from Aathirai. My parents liked this name and hoped that anything that I touch would also grow.
What are you doing now and how did you fall in love with Tamil?
After completing my schooling in Chettinad
Vidhyashram, I am doing my second year B. Tech in information technology in Sri
Subramani Nadar Engineering
College.
I was always interested in Tamil. My family could have been one of the reasons for that. My father Kannappan is a Tamil professor. When my mother used to feed me when I was a baby, she used to tell me a lot of stories. She
used to tell me children's stories, Panchatantra stories and even religious
stories. This was an everyday ritual. One day she narrated the Ramayanam to me. Of all the stories, I became very involved in the Ramayanam and Hanuman's story.
I would not just passively listen to the stories. I would keep raising doubts. My parents would anwer all my questions.
Sometimes they would even refer books to answer my questions.
I would debate about the characters of Ramayanam. For example, I would argue
that Kooni was a villain but a good character. I would support my argument with suitable statements. This happened regularly in
my house. I became more and more interested in Ramayanam.
When did you start appearing on stage?
My father used to participate in a lot of patti
mandrams. I would accompany my parents wherever they went, carrying with me a
Ramayana book ad a colouring book. Once when we went to Kolkata for a patti mandram, the man who had organised the show, K S Manian, saw my craze for Ramayanam and asked me father if he could hold a show with me. Though hesitant at first, my father agreed to it reluctantly due to the confidence
that Manian gave. It was to be a half-hour show.
They prepared 500 questions that day and I answere every one of them without hesitation. I was 4 1/2 years old then (the show was featured in the Kolkata radio news bulletin.). The audience were so surprised
that they wanted a repeat performance and there was one. A number of other shows followed.
After specialising in Ramayana, how did you turn your attention to Tamil music?
Because my father is a Tamil professor, he would always be singing Tamil sandham and Tamil songs at home. I started imbibing
them. I read the songs of Ramayana with greater interest. I then got an opportunity to sing Ramayana songs in Malaysia.
Seeing my growing interest in Tamil literature, my father started collecting all the material he could lay his hands on in newspapers and magazines. I have never set aside a time to read literature. I would read while eating,
or my father would ask me to read a poem or song while we were sitting and chatting. So, my parents are primarily responsible for
my interest in Tamil literature.
Following the division in Tamil literature - Sanga Kalam, Idai Kalam, Pir Kalam, Thar Kalam - we selected good songs, songs that
were different or had some philosophy.
Silapadikaram, Kurinji pattu, Kabilar, Ahananooru, Purananooru belong to
Sanga Kalam; Kambaramayanam belongs to the Idai Kalam, Thevaram and other religious works belong to Pir Kalam and Bharatiyar,
Bharatidasan and pudu kavithai belong to Thar Kalam.
We select songs from all these periods and give a mixture for the audience.
Another vital ingredient in our presentation is
humour. We shape our work to suit the audience, whether they belong to the
villages, towns, or are abroad. Till now we have conducted about 2000 shows.
Are you trained in music?
I started learning Carnatic music from
Lakshminarayanan from the time I was three years old till I was about 10. My father taught
me a number of Tamil keertanais. He composed music for many Tamil songs and
taught me. Though I started off by first reciting the poems, I later started singing them for
better effect. I have presented Tamil concerts also.
About the awards you have won...
Irayarut Chelvi - Kancheepuram Sankara Madam, Sri Jayendra Saraswati Gnanavaridhi - Sri Madurai Adheenam Gnana Vinodhini - Malaysia Srutilaya Gnana Vidyalaya
Yugadi Puraskar - Chennai Telugu Academy
Veenvadavidhushi - Vellore Ratnagiri Balamurugnadi Swamigal
Arunthamizh Vani - Nalvazhi Nilayam, Chennai
Ilayavariyar - Chidambaram M A Krishnaswamy
Ilakkiya Chelvi - Loyola College
are some of the awards that I have bagged.
What are you plans?
I am now forced to divide my time between my studies and Tamil. I would like to devote all my time to Tamil. Since I am specialising in electronics, I would like to use the medium of computers to spread Tamil. I would like to
record separately children's songs, lullabies, etc., and ensure that future generations know about the sweetness and greatness of Tamil.

A Tamil internet browser, "Valaiyodi," that promises to help rural people understand the hundreds of millions of Web pages, has been developed by R. Duraipandian, software engineer, Panacea Dream Weavers Software (Chennai).
Distributed free-of-cost, "Valaiyodi" is designed to translate English data on Web sites into Tamil. However Duraipandian warns that the translation would be only 70 percent accurate, and that his company is in the process of making the browser more accurate.
During the launch of this freeware, Duraipandian said that any software related to a language should not be commercialized, and hence he was not charging for even the CD loaded with the software. Duraipandian expressed the view that technology should reach every nook and corner of the country, at an affordable cost and in the local language.
The free CD distributed by Panacea also contained other software; including Tamil word processor R4U, Tamil documentation software Valluvan, Tamil to Tamil dictionary Pulavan, English to Tamil dictionary Paalam, Tamil text editor Olai, compilation of 250 Tamil fonts Pathippu, Tamil address book Mugavari, accounting software Selvam, and management software Sangam Pro. Apparently a team of software engineers has created these software, after studying the needs of SHGs, accountants and others.
At the launch of "Valaiyodi," S. Rethinavelu, president, Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, offered help in promoting the effort; while N. Nanmaran, MLA, Madurai East, assured that he would bring the initiative to the notice of the government and the concerned minister.

Just to let you know guys that my first ever visit to India is all set :D ( I have been dreaming for this for so long) I'd be in Trivendram for an official meeting from 4th to 10th and then to Chennai for a couple of days. My only worry is - my visit to Chennai falls during the election time and just want to know whether it would be safe ( I heard the results will be out by the 11th) . My family members are a bit concern over this. But I am not all alone - my Chennai colleagues are there to take care of me :) I hope everything goes on well.

Thanks so much Shakthi. It's so nice of you. I dont think I can make it to B'lore this time around but I may visit some time later as the organisation I am working has close links with all parts of India - especially the Southern part.
Infact this meeting which has been arranged in Trivendram was initially arranged in B'lore and due to some unavoidable reasons the venue was later shifted to Trivendram.

Though you seek humbly to marry a girl who is born fifth in her family, you will not get her.
"If the fifth child in a family is a girl, she is considered to be very lucky"
This is a very old proverb I came across - has any one heard or read this one? How passing of a century changes the social out look![/tscii:013b06395e]

Cnenthamizhan, it is true the fifth child which is a girl child is considered to be lucky! In those days when a dozen children is the norm this odd number girl children enjoyed special favour! These girls are lucky in their own lives & bring luck to their parents' family. Must be some coincidences observed! No end to such old wives tales in our rich tradition!

[tscii:22b33b5a3a]Chinese who just loves Tamil language
A CHINESE national from Beijing took a Tamil name because of the love for the language, said Tamil Nesan.
A graduate in English, Chee Wah Chan Kwa took the name Kalai Arasi after she learned Tamil, as she was keen to speak other languages. She joined a radio station in 1975 and translated Chinese news to Tamil before becoming a full-time announcer.
Driven by her love for the language, Chee Wah enrolled for a two-year Tamil language course at the Tanjai Tamil University in South India in 1990.
She later returned to China and resumed her job at the station. In 1996, she headed the Tamil section where she still works today.
“The more I read Tamil, the more I am in love with the language and its literature. Now, I can read, write and speak good Tamil,” the daily quoted her as saying.

Glad to hear it, Nov. The intriguing question is how come a foreigner loving our language ardently is endearing to us while our people's love for other languages is maligned as unpatriotic?
NOV
26th June 2006, 12:58 PM
I think that throughout history tamils have always welcomed anyone into their homes, regardless of their ancestry. non tamils have even ruled us, so the question of we disowning our ppl doesnt arise.
tamil sangeetha vidwaans who have contributed solely to other languages (like telugu) are still revered among us. 8-)

There would be something to talk about, even if there is nothing in Mani's films. I too wanted to see Guru, but not managed yet. But I will like to see in Hindi first, as it's the original language and the hindustani syle music would better suit Hindi words, I believe. I heard Mani is taking next film in hindi as well, starring Aamir Khan.
My recent trip to India was great - a mixture of family oriented, social and spiritual trip (as would be for many visiting home). I can't believe the phase Chennai is changing, and the cost of everything seems to have increased by atleast 5 to 10 times in the last few years. My prophylactic dental scaling costed me 400 Rs and the restaurant bills for a group is never below a few thousands.
mm.. Any thoughts about Shilpa's victory in Big Brother in UK.
I'm visiting my wife this weekend for our first wedding anniversary. Am I allowed to cheat with paper (card) by the way of tradition?! Just kidding..
Anniversary Year Traditional Modern
1 Paper Clocks
2 Cotton China
3 Leather Crystal, Glass
4 Linen or Silk Appliances
5 Wood Silverware
6 Iron Wood
7 Wool or Copper Desk Sets
8 Bronze Linens, lace
9 Pottery or China Leather
10 Tin or Aluminum Diamond
11 Steel Fashion Jewelry
12 Silk Pearl, Coloured Gems
13 Lace Textiles, Furs
14 Ivory Gold Jewelry
15 Crystal Watches
20 China Platinum
25 Silver Sterling Silver
30 Pearl Diamond
35 Coral or Jade Jade
40 Ruby Ruby
45 Sapphire Sapphire
50 Gold Gold
55 Emerald Emerald
60 Diamond Diamond
First item is the traditional way and the next is modern, it seems. Who would be interested in Emerald and Diamond, when they had been married for 60 years - at that age?!

Kerala is more or less similar to Sri Lanka - in all ways. But in Chennai I felt more homelier due to the language. Athuvum more or less Colombo maathirithaan :)
Surya's voice is indeed mesmeric !! Something very unique and the modulation is commendable. Maayavi is one good example. Voice modulation sooper-A irukkum athula.

Suresh: I tried to watch that movie in Tamil. Obviously I could see the maNirathNam touch in the technical aspects. AR rahman and a camera man ravi menon???have done a good job, I can say.
The major problem in watching in Tamil is that their costumes do not go along with "ThirunelvEli baashai"of dubbing voices at all. There is a perfect mismatch when you hear the thirunelveeli baashai in north indian costumes and background.
Neverthelss, AR looks as beautiful as ever. I liked Abhishek batchan's acting as well. But I have not seen the movie completely yet! The story seems to be very predictable, so I dont know when will I get the drive to complete this 'project'! :)

[tscii:9d63fe63b9]vow.. how nice to see many of known, unknown and unknown known friends, back at home. it feels like revisiting your extended family for pongal in village, not that i have much of that experience.
congrats to cygnus! - i assume u r known known friend. But i've got some unknown info for the first time. Congrats.

சுபா, நன்றி! சுரேஷ் என்ற என் வீட்டுப்பேரை நீங்கள் உதறியதில் வருத்தமெனினும் பரவாயில்லை, இதுவும் நன்றாகத்தான் இருக்கு! (Suresh.. I have addressed you here, in case you are not able to read tamil)
PP, i think i have to come here not only to learn Tamil, but also to learn some good English! Cherubic imps, masquerading glee.. Keep us enlightened with your poetic English!
TN, i thought of continuing to pretend as a bachelor, so that I maintain my thambiyumaanavar title for ever.. that's why! Just kidding.. I'm always 'thambi', like MarkandEyan. I actually gave several hints about my wedding, and I thought you had picked up, when you asked me about why I wrote about my family once. Anyway I sent the invites to the ones, whose email IDs I had - though, unfortunately, none of them could make it.. I would ofcourse have very much liked to invite you and all other friends, here. But infact, I really feel married only after I have completed almost one year with my beloved.
Roshan, yes.. you have to write travel diary. For our wedding anniversary, we went to Cairngorm mountains in Scotland - to remind us of our honeymoon in swiss, with all the snow-clad mountains. And my wife very much liked the Swarowski watch I gifted here.
Hi to all the others, here.
For last two days, it's snowing like anything here. It's so beautiful. For those who aren't aware, it doesn't snow properly that often in England - only for 2 or 3 days, each winter and that too, not every year. When it snows, that's when it looks like real christmas as shown in Hollyhood movies: My favourite christmas scenes are from 'Home alone'.

Yes, I still vividly remember the deeply emotional scenes-almost all- when I saw it first when it was released. A nice combo of all real life drama! Romance, courage, patriotism, friendship....VOC's wife singing that song at his death bed really gave me goose flesh! The scene when Subramania Siva comes out of jail meeting VOC...Bharathi's passionate outpourings...we are rightfully proud of such people! And the characters did full justice to their roles, emoting neither more nor less!
Akil, just to see the photo of our 2-year-old grandson walking on snow in US made me shivvvvver! May you continue with black & white clarity of mind added with rich rainbow colours of imagination & joy!
