Now i am gonna give some links to the Special programme given by Kamalhassan on deepvali day(11th Nov,2004) on Jaya tv! :D

"Kalakkap pOvathu yAru?" - was the name of that programme - and it was about discussing the Songs of Kamalhassan's movies - featuring singers who had sung background - for him (SPB!!) and also the songs which Kamal himself had sung in movies, and co-singers (like SJ Janaki) also Manorama, Chithra et al!

It was a great fun-filled and Joyous and Nostalgia-reviving programme for both the viewers and Kamal ( I saw that live on that day! :D )

He also sung a "Madras Kuppam gAnA pAttu" - that kamal himself had written! :lol:

It was superbly written in chennai kuppam thamizh gAnA style!! :lol:

The theme of thet gAnA was about the life in a typical kuppam, told in a light-veined manner, with ironies and hardships of the lives of the kuppam people - described in a "black humor" kind of tone!

i think one needs to have a basic grasp of the chennai thamizh - to understand the tone and tenor of this gAnA song - otherwise some people may not understand it or worse think that this is too "rough edged"!

But I thought Kamal has written an excellent piece of madras kuppam gAnA - quintessential in content and typically flavored! :D :D

About Mahanadigan - I think FINALLY Sathyaraj is going back to his much loved satirical humor which is a welcome relief from the masala movies he was doing for a while. Hope to watch the movie on DVD someday.

Recently, I saw 'kudaikkul mazhai' and I loved it. Parthiban needs to do more of this offbeat thing that he does so well. I had heard it was reminiscent of 'Secret window' but I actually thought this one was better. Parthiban did a great job within the scope of the character he was playing along with a believable practical joke as the premise upon which 'love' blooms between the protagonists.

I'm alright Thamizharasan. Just trying to overcome the shock the tsunamis created in our nation. I personally know more than 50 people who had lost their lives and belongings. One of my relative's family lost 16 members while on a tour to the southern beaches. A lecturer of us and a prominent business and financial consultant in Colombo and his wife were swept away by the waves and his two kids are missing. Most of my collegues' close relatives and friends , one of my former hostel mates and her kid and many more.

As Querida said 'patta kaalE padum ketta kudiyE' kedum. That's the story of the Northern and Eastern part of Sri Lanka - especially the East- the worstly affected part with more than 800,000 being displaced. Now, few days after the tsunami, they have been hit by continued downpour and floods that have severely affected the highways, roads and bridges and has made the rescue work and relief aid distribution even more difficult - :cry:

It is pazhamozhikaL ( or pazhamozhigaL) and not pazhamozhikil.

As for the three pazhamozhigaL you have given I did not understand the first one. The second has to be 'yaanaikkum adi saRukkum' and the third 'thoorathu pachchai kaNNukku kulirchi.

Joe, Recently there was a program called 'Kanadasan Arakatalai', it had legends like Dr.SPB, MSV, these were the main artists, others included greats like Dr.PBS, LRR,and the greatest P.Susheela amma sang a song at 80+, man I could not believe it.

MSV was full of praises and tears for Kaviyarasu Kanadhasan, Dr.SPB as usual stole the show away with one of SPB+MSV+Kanadhasan song, 'Vaan Nila Nila alla' 8)

i was wondering that other day when watching the movie "Ninaithalai Innikum" with that very nice song Bharathi-Kannama...i was wondering why Kannama is paired with Bharathi is it a reference in his song? Is it a real person?..it has been used in so many songs to denote couples but why?

Dear Querida,

I think Bharathi Kannamma here means, Bharathi's Kannamma. As you may know, Mahakavi Bharathiyaar was one of India's eminent poets who instilled the thirst for freedom from the British rule in the early part of the 20th century.

His romantic poems are my favorite ones. He uses the name 'Kannamma' to denote the protagonist of many of his poems about love. Bharathi's heroine Kannamma possesses an ethereal quality which makes her so out of the world that she is almost unattainable. She makes her suitor abandon all worldly wealth and chase after her like a love-lorn mad man. In Bharathi's eyes, she is the perfect woman and I guess that is probably why many movie lyricists have used the name of Kannamma to denote their heroines :)

It is interesting to note that, at the same time, Bharathi has also sung of "Kannan" as the male lead of many other love poems.

My favorite of the Kannamma songs, a famous one -
suttum vizhi chudarthaan kaNNammaa sUriya chanthirarO...full of vivid vibrant imagery :D

On my trip from Mullaithivu A tigress in the bus looked at me mouth wide open as if am from outerspace. I just asked ennam paarththu mudiyavillaiya. KaNNukku varuththam vara pohuthu.
Clibmed on a coconut tree (10 metres) and took fotos and videos. Tried to upload to my mediacenter but aborted it.

SL Airport is full of thieves, lost a camera that was in my luggage. But fortunately had my digital camera with me.

Still no excuse from moderator NOV. RR promissed me that this idiot will pm me.

Very very dirty here, all the rubbish burning everywhere. During the daytime human dogs barking at me: enna cavam, poda moddai
and in the nights natural dogs barking at me.

I ought to use a helmet here, getting my head hit everywhere, everything all low. Tried to go through the food city glas door. Expected it will open automatically as it is in Germany.

Lot of moskitos, malaria in Vanni.
Nasty people everywhere but not in Vanni. Not a single bad word towrds me. it seems I'm a singhala in the north.

Regarding Tamil typing.. I think there's detail instructions given there at that site. Anyways.. I'll just brief you on the important points.

Its very easy...

First make sure that e-kalappai runs on your computer(I presumed you had followed the instructions properly while installing it). Then you've got to press Alt+2 to switch on to Tamil key board. Typing is very easy. For example..

If you want to type the word «õÁ¡ - you'll have to just type 'ammaa' or ammA (note that for 'nedils' eg: ¬ ® ° ² µ sound you've got to type the letter twice continuously in simples or once in capital)

¬ sound - aa or A

Then for É it's "na" and for ½ it's "Na" . Follow the same procedure for ra and Ra.

I'm desperate that i need to learn driving with in next 6 months - which I've already been saying for last 1 year. This time, I think I can't afford to make any excuses. Any tips to get the drive to drive ?!

Akil getting the drive to drive...is well to drive.. :wink: on long winding roads....you will start to relax and then you will find driving actually enjoyable or instead of aimlessly driving choose a destination you would actually like to reach...i would drive to my uni, a park, shopping centre etc. ...don't stick to one kind of area try everything well except highway for now...hope you have a safe and enjoyable driving experience...please do relax but also pay attention every stoplight/turn/stop sign is a new beginning to learn don't fustrate and tense up for minor mistakes...this helps prevent otherwise major mishaps

Thanks for reminding one of my most favourite Bharathi's songs (second only to 'nallathOr veeNai seithE). Its a nice translation, too.

What I can't understand from the translation is.. I always have thought 'manathil uRuthi vENdum' as referring to one's own-self wishing what he would like to possess (like a prayer) than advising the opposite person. The translation is done as if the poet advises the opposite person.
There is a big difference.. when u read the poem referring to ur ownself, it gives a feeling of optimism and encouragement!

I am one of the sinciere reader of Kaviko from my college days. His beautiful usage of words, broad knowledge, level of understanding about religions/concept of God are certainly great.

I considered him as one of my guide even though I oppose some of his fundamental beliefs. His "Sirakukalin neram" is one of the greatest book published recent days in Tamil. I recommend every religious believers to read in order to understand the concept of God what Islam, Jesus and Tamil Siddhars were trying to express.

eventhough his poems takes us to the beautiful virtual world, rajasaranam's simple poem brings back to the reality. I don't have any words to appreciate rajasaranam.

(at present I am having troubles in using tamil software tools installed in my PC. I will try to write in Tamil here in near future. SO sorry for using English in this thread)

Thanks for the info. One of my friends too recommended this book to me. I have not read it so far. But to some extent I know he is well versed with all types of beliefs and his interpretations are great. In his book 'pooppadaintha sabtham' - a collection of essays - he touches a bit on religious aspects as well. Just as an example I would like to quote one here. He takes just one line from the Quaran - which says - "kaNavanum manaiviyum oruvarukkoruvar aadaiyaaga irukka vENdum' and goes on elaborating from various angles. I was simply amazed with his knowledge and how differently and sharply he grasps things.

ஆவர் மீது மிகுந்த மரியாதையும் வியப்பும் உன்டு எனக்கு. உலக கவிதைகளின் பால் என்னை திரும்பி பார்க்க வைத்ததில் அவர் பங்கு மிக பெரிது.

சொற்போர் என்றானபின் கிள்ளை மொழி பிதற்றல் போன்ற வார்த்தைகள் தவிர்க்க் இயலாதவை. இதை நீங்கள் அவரை ஓர் உயர்வான இடதில் இருத்தி பார்த்ததால் வரும் விளைவு. ஓர் கவிங்கனுக்கும் மற்றோர் கவிங்கனுக்கும் நிகழும் போட்டி என கருதினால் இவ்வபிப்ராயத்தில் இருந்து விடுபடுவீர்கள்.
