With Great Anguish
I have removed
The stories.
SHE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SPEAK
First we worship her as Godess,
Pray as Mother,
Love as a wife
Adore as a daughter
But she does not speak.
when she was married off
To five of them,
And undressed in front of them,
She did not speak.
When she was banished when pregnent,
She did not speak.
When her head was severed,
She did not speak.
She was sold,
She was raped,
She was brutalised
She was exploited.
And she has not spoken.
When someone speaks
On her behalf,
We shut him off.
Because We are
Cultured People.
We do not like
our Living rooms
With dirt showing.
Let the dirt
Rot in someone's
Back yard.

Oh Gawd!!!
Nichiro!!! The stories are tormenting! Excellently written, but absolutely traumatic! Now, I will never be able to get the sadness out of the day!!! Although I am not sure if you are not violating Hub rules in terms of decency, still the pathos is too real!!! You have spun a masterly beginning...and although I don't think I want to read anymore, simply because it is too sad, I can't help wondering how you are going to blend the two! I have read merciless episodes before, but always there was a feeling of artificiality to them, so I was not much affected. But somehow, you are writing is pure anguish!
I really wish you'd stop that! There is as much laughter in this world as there is sorrow! All our lives are filled with both! Then why highlight only the one and not the other? Why focus only on sorrow, which all of us are trying to forget and laugh instead?

Why do we want to be literary Ostriches?
Reality is all around.
We cannot wish away reality.
How long will be brush the garbage under the carpet.?
Nichiro,
Both are excellently written! Tho' I do share Badri's sentiment on the decency, I find Toto's story very interesting. Both stories vaguely remind me of 2 different novels I read and enjoyed back in the 80's. Is there more to come??
And, yup...hope the chapters to come will have some happiness in them   as Badri thambi has said,
"There is as much laughter in this world as there is sorrow! All our lives are filled with both! Then why highlight only the one and not the other? Why focus only on sorrow, which all of us are trying to forget and laugh instead?"
Anyway, don't mistaken my comments..your stories were excellent!

True, but why be only one-sided? Why always look only at one side of the reality, and brush the good things under the carpet?
Again, as NM akka has said, please do not interpret this as saying anything against your writing! In truth, the very fact that I...ok, we, to include NM, have felt so strongly is only becos of ur superb writing style.

I have covered the rotting boil
Which is there on our body.
So that no one can see it.
But what will I do
About the stink?
Nichiro..
We (thambi & I) are sorry if we hurt your feelings in any way :( :( !
I truly appreciated your superb writings and to see these removed is like a slap on my face just for voicing out my views...
We asked
Not to cover the boils
Nor to hide the stinks
But merely
A balance
Of boils
Stinks
and the wonderful things..  :!:
Badri

Oh No!
Nichiro...that is not what we meant!!
NM akka: Don't blame yourself! It is all my fault! If I hadn't said it in the first place...
And Nichiro, as NM has rightly said, we did not say no to the boils, but only asked for more of the beauty that does exist, along with the stinky boils..
And Nichiro, I don't think you are being fair...
I paraphrase Nichiro:
when she was married off
To five of them,
And undressed in front of them......
When she was banished when pregnent.......
When someone speaks
On her behalf,
We shut him off........
Whole epics were written on the woman who married the five and the woman who was banished when pregnant!! And you say we shut him off?
No, it is because those two poets talked both of the good and the bad, both of the beauty and the disease that they were not shut off, but are still revered as Master Poets and their epics have been transformed from mere literary gems to holy scriptures.
But you should not remove the stories just going by the opinion of 2 hubbers. There are many others, and you should give them a chance to read and comment too.
NM akka: Don't blame yourself! It is all my fault! If I hadn't said it in the first place...
Thambi..don't worry......if I hadn't shared the views, I wouldn't hv posted my opinion! It's no one's fault....we're merely voicing out our views, that's all. Some ppl can be sensitive, I guess!

If that were the case, the name of the MAHABHARATAM would have been PANCHALI PURANAM. RAMAYAN should have been named as SITAYAN .
How many of us remember supreme sacrfice of Lakshman's wife Urmila?
She was all alone away from Lakshman for 14 years.
Poets Glorify Maryada Purushottam Ram. It was Sita who was the epitome of Maryada.
And Rishi Jamadagni and his obedient son (sic) Parashuram goes scot free even after suspecting his wife Sati Renuka of misdemenour and ordering of cutting her head off.!!
And we glorify Parashuram !!!

Hello NM madam, Thambi Badri Avl,
Thinking of writing something entirely different.
Thinking of writing a "Diary of a Dog."
It would be Biography cum daily musings of a Mongreal Dog
Adopted by a family.
Since I will have to think , imagine and write like man's best friend, it may have things offending to people.
Hope no humans are offended.
N...
its Da vinci code.....a book....talks abt how the new Bible suppressed Goddess worship....just visit the thread under Dan Brown novels...
and Nichiro, this a free forum..feel free to write down anything, the exceptions are stated in the rule of the hub ......am really looking forward to your superb writings.. as we hv stated above, these are merely our views....but there is nothing wrong in your work! And to think I'm writing a lot here just goes to show that I enjoy your postings (here, and the other threads, too!)..so, keep it up

Not very late, I guess!
Nichiro, I have already confessed in your poetry thread about my aversion to unpleasant facets of this world's happenings. I fully agree with badri about concentrating on the brighter aspects of life.
Yes, I prefer to be an ostrich.
The best service to humanity that I can render is NOT committing any heinous act! Seeing, hearing about the villainous deeds pains me, makes me feel helpless.
REALLY there is not much that could be done emphatically by average citizens like me! EXCEPT VOICING concern and admonitions and warnings to vulnerable yougnsters.
The tragegedy of innocent people(mainly women in your descriptions) pains me unspeakably. But while I am helpless to stop this effectively I prefer to preserve my peace of mind by thinking about good, gracious, generous people who have lived and are living with magnanimity and virtue.
Yes, I deliberately shut my eyes often to the horrid, sore, gory side of life. But I shall continue to sing the praises of living a virtuous life. AND I have hope in the good instincts in every human being that could be coaxed to surface!
It needs a great missionary soul like mother Theresa and her kind to plunge into a lifetime mission of eradicating human suffering. Sadly many of us cant take this plunge. Alternatively we can do our mite as understood by "charity begins at home".
Dwelling on sordid tales fills the heart with gloom, threatens to engulf the mind in an abyss of utter hopelessness and worthlessness. I am a weak soul, I dread to take this risk, I shall rather continue with my optimistic search for human greatness in every nook and corner of the world.
Nichiro, please dont misunderstand me!

Madam PP and other friends,
You and other hubbers are right from your point of view.
What is important is that we need to sail the boat.
So be it.
Thanks for whatever kindness you have shown about using good words about my writings.
I would cherish that.

Finally, Mrs PP - Some one bold enough to accept the truth of life!
Don't we all feel just as you do, yet we hide behind the comfortable social shell of "Oh, I am all for up and against the injustice!" when in reality, we do nothing, can do nothing!
Yes, most of us can only set our own lives right, and then perhaps move on to influence those that are immediately around us. Which is the reason why with more than 6,440,283,621 people on earth, we had only one Mother Teresa. Yes, there are many more unsung heroes in the world, doing their bit in their own way, but the fact remains that the vast majority are helpless.
And instead of adding to the sum total of misery by feeling miserable ourselves, we can at least fill ourselves with cheer, and pass that on to our fellow humans.
After all, only he who has wealth can give to others. Similarly, only he who has happiness can give to others.

Hello Badri,
I am not conqured but I have concured .
If each and every individual only feels helpless and just laments, how can we have something called power of mass movement.
It is only the mass movement that helps in long run.
Power of pen is mightier than a sword.
I feel sorry that you had to use unwanted and uncalled for references about my type of writing.
Typical Ostrich syndrome is what I call this.

Who said we can donothing ? Writers can change the face of the world.
Vast majority are in actuality a writer's strength.
I don't know about others but I am at home in any sort of writing.
All the Navarasas are my strength.
Care to read the reality, humour in "BLOG OF A DOG?"

Oh Dear Nichiro, I think it is time for me to invoke my signature line!!!
I certainly did not mean anything like that, and yes, I too am a believer that the pen is indeed mighty, that writers have always been able to shape the thinking of the masses.
Go for it, Nichiro! Yes, I am waiting to read the Blog of a Dog!

Nichiro, you do know very well that most of the hubbers including badri & me are believers in the might of pen! What else do we harp on our pet themes & personal preferences for in spite of stiff resistance ranging from mild sarcasm to virulent attacks. (Amid bricks bouquets too come in sometimes!)
I am serious about the signature I have chosen. My main warfare is against the callously commercialised MEDIA which is digging a grave for all that is noble in humanity, in civilisation.
I was ridiculed in "The issue" thread about my crusade, people asked what I meant by keeping on attacking the immoral tendencies abetted by the MEDIA.
But I believe in the Tamil proverb,"eRumpooRa kallum thEyum"=even stone gets worn out by the continuous walking (friction) of the light feet of such a small creature like ant.
I too believe in M.S. Udayamoorthy's clarion call:"unnaal mudiyum thambi". Alexander Pope's "Hope springs eternal in human breast" is what urges me on.
One is in his element when one writes about his favourite subject. Believe me, just like you there are quite a few here in this hub who are fluent & comfortable, erudite & knowledgeable in more than one subject!
It is this amazing sea of knowledge, this wealth of information, various perspectives( warring and otherwise) and interestingly different temperaments which make me haunt the hub as often as I do now.
Nichiro, your knowledge of Tamil is good enough, you might fully understand this transliteration of my poem on our pet dog, Ceasar, which I posted long ago:

Hello PP Madam,
I am ashamed to say that Illakiya Tamil is not my cup of tea.
I have grown up on Walltax Road , a place where worst form of Tamiz is spoken. If I had learnt Tamiz in school, I would have been a very fortunate person.
But even English language alphabet I started in my 9th standard in A.G Jain High school Madras.
Your poem on Caeser has gone bouncer and I am ashamed to admit it.
I think I will give my Tamil Poetry efforts a bit of rest.

Your poem was very good and slaps across our faces for keeping our women in such a situation for centuries together.
The state of women inthis male chauvnestic society will see daylight one day by the likes of you and i encourage you to write more on their sorrows also the ways and means to overcome them and attain female liberation. all the best

Nichiro, a huge sigh escaped me after reading the 2 stories in the link given. Yes, I think I understand you better now. You are made of that sensitive stuff that is bound to keep you restless till you find some redressal for the atrocities of the world. An unquenchable fire burns in you to correct/chastise the erring mankind. You are of a different class with a different texture- bent on putting an end to injustice. Down the paths of history we have brave warriors who did social service eradicating many an ignoble, barbarous and shameful custom or practice. I see you being shaped as one. I wish you luck and success! I extend my full moral support to you. Sad to admit, I am a real ostrich since such squalor gives me a sickening feeling, I shut my eyes when gruesome scenes appear on the tv/cinema screen. Call it cowardice or hypersensitivity, I shudder to dwell on cruelties, machiavillains and diabolic creatures. Nichiro, I salute your brave soul!

Hello PP Madam,
I just cannot believe what you have written.
I feel vindicated.
Please understand that I was utterly disappointed when you did not speak much in favour of suffering womanhood as depicted in my poetry , haikus and prose.
I think something happened.... a spark may be after you read my stories at peace.
This has encouraged me to post my first chapter of the novel. Oh God Help me....
Once you read the punishment awarded by God to Coelho's soul, you will understand my stance and thinking.
Actually God has punished his ownself for purifying the world.
I feel very humbled madam.
Thanks.

Hello nm,
I passed my 7th in Gujarat in Gujarati medium and was called back to Madras. My father put me in a Gujarati school in George Town. I studied in that school minus english . We did have english as a subject but it was just for name sake.
I was put in english medium at A. G Jain high school in 9th st.
This is where my formal English education started.
I wrote my abcd in lower case for the first time in that school.
