hi ,Jo , San , V, who ever can speak malayam hi guys i am kandi, i would like to learn malayam . from u guys , i hope guys are happy to teach me the basis word and sentence in malayam .. bcos i love malayam .. i also know very small amount of words only.. thank you so much ,, if can email me at ajitkan@hotmail.com or just reply me here.. guys pls pls pls (spelling in english) pls

Kandiban - The only advice I can give you, is to have someone write whole sentences in Malayalam for you, so that you can at least have a smattering vocabulary Pa!
Otherwise, merely single words would be a huge obstacle and embarassement!

spoken way is the best. look at kids, how they pick up,language. carttonic malaylam learning vcd dvd's avialble on internet, may be it will help.

Grand-father - Achan-chen or Appu-pen
Grand-mother - Amma-ma, Acha-ma (father's mum) or even Mutha-chi
Younger aunt - Ellayamma or even Kochu-ma
Father's younger brother - Ellaya-chen or Kocha-pen
Father's elder brother - Mutha-chen or even Vellia-chen
Maternal uncle's wife - Amma-yee
Boiled water - Thala-piche vellum

Younger aunt – cheriamma / kochamma (maternal)
Younger uncle – cheriacha / aappen / kochachen (paternal)
Older uncle - Veliachaa / Older aunt - veliammae
Brother – Chettan / Jeshtaan / attaa (elder brother)
- Anijen / Anniyen (younger brother)
Sister – Chechi / achi / Jeshtaathi ( elder sister)
- Anjethi / anniyathi / kochachi (younger elder sister)
Wife – bharya / Husband - bhartav
Boiled water – Tellacha vellum /chudovellam
Malayalam words varies from place to place – as you travel from North Kerala to down south in Trivendrum – words keep changing even when you reach mid-way.
Some Malayalam words spoken by the Hindus/Muslims/Christians too changes accordingly. For eg. Achaa is said by the Hindus for their fathers but it represents the Priest for the Christians. – so they end up calling their dads “papa” or appachen/ammachi for mother. As for the Muslims or “kakas” they say it as Vaappa or Baappa / Ummah (mother).
