ரஜினி எமியுடன் தொடங்கியது எந்திரன்2
ஷங்கர் இயக்கத்தில் ரஜினி நடிக்கும் புதியபடம் எந்திரன்2. அதன் தொடக்கவிழா மிகஎளிமையாக டிசம்பர் ஏழாம்தேதி நடந்தது. அதைத் தொடர்ந்து இன்று அந்தப்படத்தின் படப்பிடிப்பு தொடங்கியது.

தம்முடைய படம் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட விசயங்களை வெளியே சொல்லாமல் மிக ரகசியமாகப் பாதுகாப்பவர் இயக்குநர் ஷங்கர். காலத்தின் கட்டாயம் காரணமாக நாளைமுதல் படப்பிடிப்பு தொடங்குகிறது என்று அவரே டிவிட்டரில் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார். ரஜினியின் இரண்டாவதுமகள் சௌந்தர்யாவும் தன்னுடைய டிவிட்டரில் இன்று படப்பிடிப்பு தொடங்குகிறது என்பதைத் தெரிவித்திருக்கிறார்.

பூந்தமல்லி அருகேயுள்ள ஈவிபி திரைப்படநகரில் முதல்நாள் படப்பிடிப்பு தொடங்கியிருக்கிறது. இதற்காகக் கடந்த பல வாரங்களாக அங்கே செட்அமைக்கும் வேலைகள் நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தன். பொதுவாக புதியபடங்கள் தொடங்கும்போது பாடல்காட்சிகளைப் படமாக்குவது வழக்கம்.

Frankly, I am more excited towards Kabali than 2.0. I think, Kabali is going to be a superstar material and 2.0 is going to be shankar's material. Though I have no doubts on shankar's ability to make an entertaining fare and shattering all the box office records, I have to admit that the impact of shankar's script has also gone down in the recent years. The last solid script from Shankar was for Mudhalvan and after that he started to place his confidence towards glossy songs, more style than substance etc.,

I am ready to eat my words, if we could get the vintage shankar back in 2.0

In all probability, I am happy that Superstar did not revive Rana with KSR. From box office perspective, A movie with shankar is always a safe bit.

Lyca signed deal with akshay for two films. One is remake of kathi and another one is 2.0. It's more of combo deal than anything else. Majority of revenue should come from South Indian diaspora and Hindi is additional but definitely bigger than enthiran. i'm damn sure the order of collection by language: tamil, telugu and Hindi. it is not going to be changes this time also.

உடல்நலம் நன்கு தேறி இருபடங்களில் ஒரேசமயம் ரஜினிகாந்த் நடிப்பது மிக உற்சாகமான செய்தி. அவருடைய குறும்பு, வேகம், சினம் மூன்றுக்கும் இடமுள்ள கதாபாத்திரமாக சிட்டி மேலும் விரிவாகியிருக்கிறது.

ஷங்கர் படங்கள் அவருக்கே உரிய தெளிவான ஆனால் சுருக்கமான திரைக்கதை அமைப்பு கொண்டவை. என் பார்வையில் அவரது மிகச்சிறந்த திரைக்கதை அந்நியன். அதைவிட இது ஒரு படி மேல் எனத் தோன்றுகிறது. வலுவான எதிர்நாயகன் காரணமாக 'எந்திரன்' முதல் பகுதியைவிட இது தீவிரமானது. நான் எப்போதுமே ஜேம்ஸ் பாண்ட் வகை படங்களுக்கும் அறிவியல் புனைவு படங்களுக்கும் ரசிகன்.

என்னுள் உள்ள சிறுவனை உற்சாகமடையச் செய்த கதை இது. இதில் பங்கெடுத்தது நிறைவூட்டுகிறது" என்று கூறியிருக்கிறார்.

Down Memory Lane - Contradictory Chitti

For me, its Irumbiley Irudhayam. The opening of the song registers it as a Modern Classic. The visuals are extrodinary, where we get a candid view of the internal anatomy of the bot, mainly its charger, humanly called the Beating Heart. Around it, metallic flowers blossom and then comes the fabulous touch in the form of Source Code Butterflies dancing around. One Chiped Butterfly manages to fly out and we get to see the Endhiran's outer form - A Visual Beauty.

The lyrics of the songs are modern, rythmic and sticks to the context and demand.

Arima Arima contridicts "Irumbiley Irudhayam". Even though the robotic setup is the same, magically the accompanying bots are all Chitti. The calm and 'in-love' Chitti transforms into emperor of emperors mode - Arima Arima Naano Aayiram Arima. HE does not care to consider Sana as a Human, but see her as an object - Unpol Ponmaan Kidaithaal Summa Vidumaa, but the same Chitti was like - Ennalum Eppothum Un Kayyil Bommai Aven. Initially Chitti proposes Sana. He elaborates his data before her and requests her to consider it. But suddenly he turns aggressive and challenges Sana over the Beauty of Creation itself. Sana on the other hand who teased Chitti - Iravil Naduvil Battery Thaan Theerum, now enters into depressive mode - Raatchasan Vaendam Rasigan Vaendum. She expresses her worries about how Chitti treats her - Nee Undu Muditha Micham Ethuvo Athuthaan Naanendrai, while initially she was gracefully mocking Chitti - Oh Are You Just A Robot Toy. Sana seems to be scared now, but Chitti is just loving it.

On Vaseegaran's front, he gets two duets, which oppose each other too. You have a modern couple singing out their love for each other, and then tribal folks chanting about one another. The lyrics too match the sequence but fight with each other.

Rajini carries himself with four distinct walks, one for each creation - Vaseegaran in Love & Vaseegaran in Action, Chitti 1.0 & Chitti 2.0. The amazing vareity could be noticed in the songs too, a all-smiling Chitti turns up menacing with his mechanical growls. There is a particular shot during 'Arima Arima' song sequence, where Rajini would immitate a wide mouthed lion which sinks extrodinarily well with the Endhira Endhira chanting.

Vassegaran shows happiness, cowardliness & deception. Chitti has only 2 prominent change, the shoulders - Eventhough the Robot is stiff, Chitti V1.0 potrays a soft square where as Chitti V2.0 is rigid while it carries itself. Watch these 2 scenes and note the body attitude of Chitti :

Scene 1 - Chitti V1.0 enters with Sana to shut down the 'Music Mongers'.
Scene 2 - Chitti V2.0 stroms into the marriage hall and takes away Sana.

Similarly there are 3 songs on Robots which are not on the same level - Pudhiya Manidha <=> Boom Boom Robo Da <=> Two.Point.O

Actress Amy Jackson, who has been wining and dining in London of late, is reportedly dating British singer Cheryl Cole's estranged husband Jean Bernard Fernandez-Versini.

Rajinikanth's "2.0" actress Amy was recently seen dining with the French restaurateur in London. Paparazzi spotted Amy taking a taxi ride with Jean in London after their dinner on Friday night.

Movie posters are not only for promotional and publicity purposes and their main objective is to influence the decision to see a movie or not. They possess tremendous amount of details, mainly created holding to the concept of the film. Different styles are used to portray the images under various types to provoke an interest towards the film yet to be released or for the movie proposed for the show.

2.O Movie Poster can be coined as the Mirrored Confrontation Shot, where half-face of two main characters of the film is displayed facing each other. This style should not be confused with two-face shots, as these two styles (half-face & full-face) represent different scenarios.

Half-Face facing each other are at some kind of conflict, whereas, the Full-Face beside each other are supposed to work together and more often connected emotionally.

Examples for Full-Face : Sherlock Holmes (2009) movie poster, where Mr.Holmes and Dr.Watson pose beside each other.

The Art of making a Movie Poster lies on the liberty of the creation itself. There is no specific rule or a particular style to follow (of course the adapted style should suit the type and merge with the concept of the film), it rains down the imagination of the Artist. For instance, Avatar Movie Poster projects a full face separated into two halves - Avatar and Jake Sully. Face-Off Movie Poster show two characters, who in the film, are quite emotionally quarrelling with each other. Background over which these images sit, express the depth of the situation.

Mirrored Confrontation Shot in movie posters originated from comics. The superheroes are usually positioned before their nemesis, each showing their aggressivity in their faces. It’s basically Good versus Evil scenarios. DC Star Trek explored more to this mirror images (well, the plot revolves around Mirror Universe), where it made two identical characters face each other - Spock against his evil counterpart ... (a kind of spoiler; watch the fabulous episode Mirror Mirror (1967)).

Then there is Venom Versus Spiderman, Batman versus Superman ... so on so forth.

The basic idea behind the evil counterpart is beautifully explained as a dialogue written by Lawrence Kasdan in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) :

The 2.O Movie Poster, released on twentieth day of November 2016, carries stock poses of the two main characters in dispute and displayed to be facing each other. To the left is Chitti-the robot, facing its evil counterpart who aggressively opens his mouth and aims to swallow his other half. Several tiny dark objects are circling in the background, which resemble to a chip, the item on which Enthiran story is based on. There is a creative font telling the movie name hanging in-between these two quarrelling men - Red versus Yellow - where Chitti looks from behind his red shades straight into the yellow eyes of his evil counterpart.

The individual posters introducing these two main characters were released on the same day, where Chitti is seen to be posing in a new "red-lightening-suit" showing his full face, where as, his evil counterpart covers his face with his own hands exhibiting his cat eyes between the fingers. The nail of his second finger acts as a third eye with darkened sight pronouncing the evilness (thoughts) of this mysterious character. The title font in both these poster are different, where 2.O below Chitti is bright, and the one below the evil counterpart is steamy.

Nope, I am not going to take your time and talk about 3D technology in movies (S3D film), as I had elaborated about Motion Capture in Kochadaiiayaan. But, I give a few keywords for those who are interested to check out this splendid film making technology : Concept of Disparity in Stereo Matching, Stereoscopy, 3D Depth Tracking and Control Sensing Interface, Motion Similarity, Level of Detail for Graphics, Three Angles of Rotation of the body frame from the world frame, Depth Map (Real Depth vs Depth Created by CGI), Creating Depth Content, Camera Space (Far and Near - the value of Z), Distance vs Size (Objet from the camera and between two objects), Depth Buffering (Depth coordinates in 3D graphics), Pixel Elimination based on Depth ...

And that's just the Capture part. Cutting is an entirely different story!

The Endhiran (2010) theme has the emotion of an epic symphony and the charater of a Sci-Fi music. It sounds like a Sci-Fi Opera allowing Frankenstein (1931) to take a Trip to the Moon (Le Voyage dans la Lune, 1902). Endhiran Theme music is well paced, carrying the slow rythms of the bass and wind instruments to create the needed breathing space for the events to unfold on the screen. It starts joyful; depicting the actions Chitti involves himself with, and gets darker as Chitti progresses himself with the flow of the film.

Even though it’s too early to pass a comment about 2.O theme music, the opening of the short teaser clip starts with a Creepy Symphony. What Chitti shall unleash this time is cleverly sounded by ARR.

Endhiran 2.0

2.0 is a super hero movie, where you suspend logic and accept dead people coming back alive.
Although touted as a sci-fi movie, 2.0 is the usual Shankar movie with a strong message. "Earth is not just for humans" is the message here.

Begins in awesome 3D and captivating cinematography but gets draggy in the middle.
It takes Chitthi 2.0 to bring back the action and interest.
Story is between good and evil, but then... what is good, and what is evil...

Mostly it's Rajni's show, although at places you can see the struggle, owing to his age. Akshay is the next prominent character, though not as menacing as in the stills and trailers. Amy is there for decoration.

Pullinangal song appears in the movie while Indhira logatthu comes at the end, like an appendix.

Verdict: Watch in 3D and keep expectations low.

I can't judge your taste for films, I must respect it. I liked 2.O, not just because its a Rajini starrer or a 3D extravaganza. To be frank, I am allergic to 3D which I had mentioned several times. In 2.O, the images were moving so fast that it did not provide me enough time to worry about the 3D ... LoL.

Here, I am not going to discuss about the film, but the idea of the film (how I see it) as you have mentioned "accept dead people coming back alive". Whenever a Rajini film arrives, I keenly note the feedbacks the movie receives, and this time I was shocked to see a section calling it a Horror film and there is a ghost in the movie. These are the people who use the jargons Script and Screenplay in every wrong way possible and hit everyone with Box Office report sooner than end of the film's first show. Their basic interest is not in the film but rather … that’s not the topic, isn’t it ?

This reference/research might explain and give clarity to one of the characterisation in the film 2.O. Aura and its related phenomena is the mysterious meeting point of Science and Spirituality. I am always interested in knowing about Energy in whichever form its defined. In spirituality, Aura is a space filled with light, while science defines it as electromagnetic field enveloping any body, living or breathless.

As I wish to keep this post shorter, I won’t be writing an essay about this vast subject. I invite you to (if and only if you are willing) to watch the film again, but this time just note the use of colours on the giant bird. Aura strong points are defined with colours (accepted by science too). For example, even the Red Chip is directly associated with Aura, where Red colour stands for materialistic thoughts and consciousness of the physical body - Relate it with Chitti V2 right from how he admires himself before the mirror and keeps his desires intact. Similarly, there are yellow, orange, blue, grey and a lot more colours mixed into the Bird Man character to enlarge the concept of Aura.

Aura had always existed in Sci-Fi film, just that the directors and writers project it as their own imagination. If directors like Nolan had talked about Aura, there would be separate columns all over the internet discussing how fabulous it is but here we right away jump into collection details that does not serve even as a toilet paper's fabulous task. We have seen a lot of outer-space movies, including Matrix, where the character's physical body is attached to a silver umbilical cord inside a glass cylinder, but his spirit (or whatever) moves into another field where it performs its actions. This is called Astral Travel. The movie The Fountain deals with similar structure where the mind does most of the task while the body is ideal. Our mythologies and very few spiritual masters have talked about this phenomenon which is accepted by science too.

Aura is the collection of thoughts and emotions. Its force is defined according to the power of these thoughts and emotions. Even tiredness can be explained with respect to Aura - the emotional outbrust over an information or simply thoughts that provoke fear, etc., enriches or spoil the Aura accordingly. Ramana Maharshi used to just sit and watch the clouds sailing past above him. He is blank while watching his own cloud of thoughts that energise the Aura around him. He killed his thoughts and emotions with silence, thus, his Aura started to project differently around him (‘Silence is power’ comes from here which is wrongly interpreted in this materialistic world).

I cannot challenge Shankar's idea, as it’s his idea. But I can say whether it is convincing or not. The existence of the Fifth Force has been in study for several decades now – the Dark Matter. Where Spirituality has explained, science is trying to reason it out. According to Shankar, the collective energy of the Aura after the death of the several bodies is the Fifth force and could have immense power as it can hold both creation and destruction properties. It is deadly as it can be the energy as well as its own source. How they try to neutralise it in the film 2.O is debatable, but the idea is genuine.

Finally, Good versus Evil: Our society conditions people to think and play in a same pattern. There is an immense interest towards Good versus Evil, where unanimously its accepted that Good does only good and evil does bad things (that’s how we grow our kids too). Few story tellers launch bigger good versus greater good or badness with evilness. Except Chitti V1 and Nila, everyone else is shown guilty in the movie, where Chitti V2 is an exception as he gives a fuck about everything else that is not himself ... LoL.

I really don’t consider 'the message in films' as it depends on the individual’s intelligence. Take for instance 2.O, after watching the movie everyone posted a selfie from their cell phone and texted stating that they pitted the birds. Patchi Rajan can’t touch me, as I don’t have a cell phone … bwahahaha! I have been telling the same, and even expressed to provide water to butterflies and explained the method in one of my stories.

I do understand, that too for a movie, all these does not matter and are not important at all. At the end of the day whether the movie entertained ME or not is the final take. I am glad that 2.O had entertained you partially and that you liked watching it in native 3D.

(an introduction to Anti-Villain)

An antagonist is a fictional character who is against or opposes the protagonist. It need not necessarily be a villain or an evil person. For example, Rajini films have a lot of antagonists than villains. Their character arcs are more on emotional encounters or ego outburst, the common traits of a human nature that are difficult to conquer. Mostly the female characters are not villainous but an antagonist who don’t physically harm anyone but take the protagonist's life on an electric swing : Srividya in Mappillai, Ramya Krishnan in Padayappa, Chandramukhi, Mannan , etc. Even Sarath Babu is an antagonist in Muthu and Annamalai. The Real Villain for Rajini is and will be Marc Antony only.

Antagonist as a bad or evil person can be categorized into two sub divisions: a straight villain & an anti-villain.

A straight villain ruled and rules the fiction world. They are the typical villains used to trigger the plot. If the protagonist is what one should be, the villain is what one shouldn't be. Villain’s main function is to elevate the protagonist character. They are frequently unintelligent, incapable of harming the protagonist even when they can command an army from hell at the snap of their fingers. The usual villain roles are two-faced politicians, evil blood-relations, wicked industrialists, etc., who are the general sources of chaos and conflict (for no bloody reason). They are created evil for evil's sake.

To understand an anti-villain, two other aspects have to be learnt:

1/ Origins: Even though there are all sorts of characters sketched out in our Epics, to understand the type of (famous) fiction that is thrusted upon us - Time travel to the 80's. Frank Miller (Dark Knight Returns) and Alan Moore (The Killing Joke, Watchmen) can be considered as the visionaries of anti-villain. Such antagonist characters were glorified on screen by directors like Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, and Robert Rodriguez (with Quentin Tarantino and Frank Miller), while Quentin Tarantino has his own plans to stylize and present his antagonists as Anti-Villains.

2/ Anti-Hero : This character is THE protagonist, THE Hero and should not be confused with a villain. Anti-Heroes existed from Western genre films through other films in the years 60s and 70s. A hero acts with moral and reasoning and when the same hero gives a rat's ass about moral and acts primarily on self-interest defying the ethical code becomes an anti-hero - Ajith in Mankatha.

Note : Chitti V2.O is a Villain and not an anti-hero.

An Anti-Villain is the opposite of an Anti-Hero. He is primarily a Villain with Heroic goals. He has got excellent personal traits, ethics and virtues but every good quality goes into the drain due to his actions. What they desire is morally correct, but the means they deploy to achieve it is evil.

Exemples of Antagonist :

1/ Batman is an anti-hero. Joker is an anti-villain.
2/ Chitti V2.0 is a Villain and Patchi Rajan is an anti-villain.
3/ Baasha is a Hero and Marc Antony is a Villain.
4/ Paruthiveeran is an Anti-hero. Lingesan (for the movie I) is a Hero
5/ Deadpool is an Anti-Hero. Wolverine is a Super-Hero.

Usually its (Anti)Hero versus (Anti)Villain. In 2.O, it’s Villain versus Anti-Villain, a FIRST of its kind. And it’s amazing to see the role of each character in 2.O:

Vassegaran is Hero. Chitti V1.O is Super-Hero. Chitti V2.O is Villain. Patchi Rajan is Anti-Villain. Chitti 3.0 is Anti-Hero.
