Suriya dons triple role in this science fiction thriller, written and directed by Vikram Kumar. Oscar winner A.R. Rahman composes the music. He has already composed for Suriya stared movie Sillunu Oru Kadhal and Ayudha Ezhuthu. Lyrics are written by Vairamuthu and Madhan Karky.

Initially, this film was scheduled for a Pongal 2016 release, but due to delay in the extensive post production work this movie is now scheduled for a Summer 2016 release.

Suriya's Pasanga 2 in Pandiraj direction is set to release this December.

Mei Nigara

24-the movie, songs are very much envelopped inside the Theme Time. Hats off ARR & lyricist Madan Karky.

When I heard the fantastic lyrical adjective in the song - 'Mittai Kuyile', I thought the lyrics were by Vairamuthu, but the song 'Mei Nigara' is penned by Madan Karky. Mei Nigara seems to be a never an ending melody due to its structure, just like the Time. The beauty of the composition is its strophic form which is traditional as well as modern. ARR induces soprano (female) and tenor (male) from the Opera into our cultural music and Sid Sriram, Sanah Moidutty & Jonita Gandhi have rendered it beautifully. Here are two samples from my favourites where you can draw an interesting comparison with the composition of Mei Nigara :

Just like 'Kalam En Kadhali', where we a hint that one of Surya's character is a watchmaker, Mei Nigara starts off with "Oodaathe". Keenly following the Rythm and Blue carolers are the fantastic sounds of tics and tocs. The song starts off as a duet with Time, giving Time a female attire (Arasiye, Azhagiye, Arakiye) and latter develops into a conversation (Kalangalai Jeithidu, Sangili Udaithidu, En Kobam Irakidu). The swift is in congruity with the vocalists and the musical apparatus. ARR is simply outstanding in this song, that different ARR that I always look for.

'24' box office collection: Will Suriya's film break premiere show record of Vijay's 'Theri?'

Suriya's much-awaited "24" is all set to be released in the U.S. and other foreign countries on May 5. The makers have also organised a special show in Fremont, California, on the same da and it will be attended by the actor's family.
"24" is releasing in 273 screens (137 in Tamil and 136 in Telugu) across the U.S. and will have a record number of shows on Thursday evening. People are now expecting the movie to break the premiere record of Vijay's "Theri," which earned $214,668 from 127 special shows.
The trade experts feel that the presence of Suriya in the U.S. may boost the collection of the movie. "24" has created positive hype with its teaser, trailer and the audio, thus the film may get a good opening.
However, it has to be seen whether the film will beat the records of Rajinikanth's "Lingaa" ($404,566 from 118 shows) and "Endhiran" ($260,000 from 45 shows), which are the top two highest-grossing Tamil movies in the U.S. (premiere show).
The movie is simultaneously releasing in two languages in over 1,500 screens in worldwide. In the overseas alone, it is being released in about 660 screens.

'24' போன்ற நிறைய வித்தியாசமான திரைப்படங்களில் நடிக்க வேண்டும். 'மாற்றான்' படத்தில் வந்ததுபோல் ஒட்டிப் பிறந்த இரட்டையர்கள் கொண்ட கதை தமிழில் புதிது. அதேபோல் 'ஏழாம் அறிவு' வருவதற்கு முன்னதாக யாருக்கும் போதி தர்மனை தெரிந்திருக்கவில்லை. எனவே வெற்றிப் படங்களாக இல்லாவிட்டாலும் வித்தியாசமான படங்களில் நடித்ததில் எனக்கு மகிழ்ச்சி. எனது முயற்சிகள் எப்போதுமே நேர்மையாக இருக்கும்.

ஒரு நடிகராக இருக்க விருப்பமா இல்லையென்றால் நட்சத்திரமாக இருக்க விருப்பமா?
சில நேரங்களில் நான் சாதாரணமான கதைகளையும் தேர்வு செய்திருக்கிறேன். ஆனால், அப்போதெல்லாம் என் நலன் விரும்பிகள் திருப்தி அடையவில்லை. எனவே கமர்ஷியல் ரீதியாகவும் ஹிட்டாகக் கூடிய அதே வேளையில் நல்ல கதையும் கொண்ட படங்களில் நடிப்பதையே அவர்கள் விரும்புகிறார்கள் என்பதை புரிந்து கொண்டேன். ஆனால், அதற்காக எப்போதுமே சிக்கலான கதைகளில் மட்டுமே தேர்வு செய்வேன் என்று அர்த்தமில்லை. சில எளிமையான கதைக்களம் கொண்ட 'பசங்க-2', '36 வயதினிலே' போன்ற படங்களையும் செய்வேன். நட்சத்திரம் - நடிகர் என்ற பாகுபாடெல்லாம் எனக்குக் கிடையாது. இது வெறும் பொழுதுபோக்கு. ஒரு நடிகராக மட்டுமே கதையைக் கேட்டால் நீங்கள் சுயநலத்தோடு முடிவெடுக்க வேண்டியிருக்கும். அதுபோல் ஒரு நட்சத்திரமாக மட்டுமே கதையை அணுகினால் வேறு எதையும் கவனிக்காமல் நட்சத்திர அந்தஸ்துக்கு மட்டுமே முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்க வேண்டியிருக்கும்.

படத்தயாரிப்பில் நீங்கள் எதிர்கொண்ட சவால்கள் என்ன?
படத்தயாரிப்பு, விநியோகிஸ்தம் செய்வதில் உள்ள சவால்கள் குறித்து எனக்கு அச்சமில்லை. நான் எப்போதுமே பணத்தை பற்றி கவலைப்பட்டதில்லை. ஒரு படத்தில் பணத்தை இழந்தால் அடுத்த படத்தில் அதை அடைந்துவிடலாம். ஒரு தயாரிப்பாளர் ஒரு படத்தில் கிடைக்கும் லாபத்தை அடுத்த படத்திற்கான முதலீடாகவே பார்ப்பார். ஒரு நடிகனாக நான் என் நேரத்தை முதலீடு செய்திருக்கிறேன். அதற்காக என்ன கிடைத்தாலும் எனக்கு லாபமே. ஒரு நல்ல திரைப்படத்தை தயாரித்த பெருமிதம் எனக்கு இருக்கும்

மற்ற நடிகர்களோடு இணைந்து நடிப்பதை நிறுத்திவிட்டீர்களே..
ஒரு படத்தின் நிஜ ஹீரோ அப்படத்தின் கதைதான். எனவே பல நட்சத்திரங்களோடு இணைந்து மல்டி ஸ்டாரர் திரைப்படங்களில் நடிப்பது தவறல்ல. மல்டி ஸ்டாரர் திரைப்படத்துக்கான அப்படிப்பட்ட நல்ல கதை கிடைத்தால் நிச்சயம் நடிப்பேன்.

மீண்டும் ஹரியோடு 'சிங்கம் 3'?
’சிங்கம் 3’ படத்தில் முதல் இரண்டு பாகங்களின் சிறப்பம்சங்கள் மீண்டும் சேர்க்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. முதல் பாகம் செண்டிமெண்ட் காட்சிகள் நிறைந்ததாக இருந்தது. இரண்டாவது பாகத்தில் ஆக்*ஷன் அதிகமாக இருந்தது. ’சிங்கம் 3’ல் இரண்டுமே கலந்திருக்கும்.

Vikram Kumar doesn't disappoint this time too.. its a Intelligent Sci-fi Thriller.. he nailed it! Brilliant screenplay needs a special mention here. Hats off to Vikram!

24 is surely one of the most technically brilliant films that has come out in the recent past. Suriya's spell binding triple role, racy thrills and engaging concept will impress you big time. This film will take Suriya's stardom to the top level and proves that whenever he does something different, it is bound to attract everyone. Finally, if you keep your expectations in check and bear the lack luster love track, 24 will entertain you completely.

Vikram Kumar has proved his mettle once again, and in short he has proved that the success of 'Manam' is not just Luck. He has provided quality entertainment with '24' and he has done lots of research for the movie. It is obvious in each and every frame. There is a surprise twist at the interval block where younger suriya meets his past and everyone will definitely come to edge of the seat. Editing should have been a lot better. The movie has its flaws, and we can also say the movie has shades from various Hollywood movies, but still this one is a 'Welcome' note to Tamil cinema.

Although 24 has limited appeal and has its minuses it is one of the best movies in recent times. We won't get to see such ideas being executed by our filmmakers where the majority of audience loves to watch the masala stuff. Initial social media euphoria may not withstand, and at Telugu Box-office it may struggle to recover the moolah, considering the upcoming biggies.

24 A.K.A Coincidence: The Movie.

Very good pacing and screenplay kept me entertained but every incidence in the movie fell conveniently in place. I did not know how easy it is to make a time machine lol I guess everyone can do it even without education.

காலம் ஒருவனின் காதலியாக மாறினால் என்ன நிகழும்? அதுதான் ‘24’
விஞ்ஞானி சேதுராமன் (சூர்யா) காலத்தினூடே பயணம் செய்ய உதவும் கைக்கடிகாரத்தைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கிறார். அதைக் கைப்பற்றத் துடிக்கும் ஆத்ரேயா (அண்ணன் சூர்யா), சேதுராமனையும் அவர் மனைவியையும் (நித்யா மேனன்) கொலை செய்கிறார். சேதுராமன் தன் குழந்தையையும் டைம் மிஷின் வாட்சையும் காப்பாற்றிவிடுகிறார்.

இது நடந்தது 26 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு. கதை இப்போது நிகழ்காலத்துக்கு வருகிறது. சேதுராமனின் மகன் மணி (சூர்யா) வாட்ச் மெக்கானிக். அப்பா கண்டுபிடித்த டைம் மிஷின் வாட்ச் அவரிடம் இருக்கிறது. ஒரு கட்டத்தில் அதன் பயன் என்ன என்பது அவருக்குத் தெரியவருகிறது.

26 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் நடந்த விபத்தால் கோமாவில் படுத்துவிட்ட ஆத்ரேயா இப்போது விழித்து எழுகிறார். அந்த வாட்சைக் கைப்பற்றுவதில் அவரது வெறி இம்மியளவும் குறையவில்லை. ஆத்ரேயாவின் பணபலத்துக்கும் மிருக வெறிக்கும் இளம் சூர்யாவால் ஈடுகொடுக்க முடிந்ததா என்பதே கதை.

கால இயந்திரம் என்னும் சிக்கலான கருத்தை விறுவிறுப்பான சம்பவங்கள், திருப்பங்களுடன் சுவாரஸ்யமாகத் தந்திருக்கிறார் இயக்குநர் விக்ரம் கே. குமார். வாட்ச் இளம் சூர்யாவிடம் வந்ததும் படம் வேகமெடுக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால், காமெடி, காதல் பாதைக்குள் நுழைந்துவிடுகிறது. அதிலிருந்து வெளியேறி சீரியஸான பாதைக்குள் நுழைந்த பிறகு வேகமெடுக்கிறது.

ஆத்ரேயா - மணியின் காய் நகர்த்தல்கள் படத்தை விறுவிறுப்பாக்குகின்றன. யாரிடம் அசல் வாட்ச் இருக்கிறது என்பதை ஆத்ரேயா கண்டுபிடிக்கும் விதம், செக்கில் கையெழுத்து போடுவதால் வரும் சிக்கலிலிருந்து தப்பிக்கும் விதம், ஆத்ரேயாவின் நிஜ முகம் வெளிப்படும் இடம் ஆகியவை குறிப்பிட்டுச் சொல்லத் தகுந்தவை. கிளைமாக்ஸ் திருப்பம் ரசிக்கும்படி இருக்கிறது.

மழை, கிரிக்கெட் ஸ்டேடியம், துப்பாக்கி குண்டு துளைக்கும் திசை நோக்கி ஆத்ரேயாவைத் திருப்பிவிடுவது என்று காலத்தை உறையவைக்கும் காட்சிகள் சுவாரஸ்யம் கூட்டுகின்றன. சூர்யாவின் ‘இமாஜினோ ரொமான்ஸ் ஃபீலியா’ குறும்பும் அதை சமந்தா எதிர்கொள்ளும் விதமும் ரசனையும் ரகளையுமாய் இருக்கின்றன. ஆனால் காதல் காட்சிகளில் தாராளமாகக் கத்திரி போட்டிருக்கலாம். குடும்ப சென்டிமெண்ட் காட்சிகளும் அப்படியே.

சூர்யாவுக்கு மின் அதிர்ச்சி ஏற்படுவது முக்கியமான திருப்புமுனை. அப்படி ஏற்படுவதற்கான காரணத்தை வலுவாக முன்வைத்துவிடுகிறார் இயக்குநர். வில்லன் சூர்யா இளம் சூர்யாவை ஏமாற்றும் விதத்திலும் தர்க்கம் கச்சிதமாக இருக்கிறது. ஆனால், வாட்சைத் திறக்கும் சாவி சூர்யா கையில் வருவதில் எந்தத் தர்க்கமும் இல்லை. சேப்பாக்கத்தில் இந்தியா இலங்கை கிரிக்கெட் போட்டி நடப்பதாகக் காட்டப்படுகிறது. கதை நடப்பது 2016-ல். இந்த ஆண்டில் இந்த அணிகளுக்கிடையே சேப்பாக்கத்தில் போட்டியே இல்லை.

இதையெல்லாம் விட்டுவிடலாம். ஆனால், ஆத்ரேயா இளம் சூர்யாவிடம் வாட்சைத் திரும்பக் கொண்டுபோய்ச் சேர்க்கும் காட்சியின் தர்க்கப் பிழை மிக முக்கியமனது. கையில் வாட்ச் வந்ததும் பின்னோக்கிப் பயணிக்கும் ஆத்ரேயா, அதற்கு முன் தினத்துக்குப் போகிறார். அந்த தினத்தில் அவர் கையில் வாட்ச் இருந்திருக்க வாய்பில்லை. முன் தினத்தில் இருக்கும் அவர், இளம் சூர்யாவைக் கொல்ல வேண்டாம் என்று மட்டும் முடிவெடுக்கவில்லை. விளம்பரம் கொடுத்து அவரை வரவழைக்க வேண்டாம் என்றும் முடிவெடுக்கிறார். ஆக, வாட்ச் ஆத்ரேயா கையில் வர வாய்ப்பே இல்லை. அப்படியானால் அவரால் சூர்யாவிடம் வாட்சை எப்படிச் சேர்ப்பிக்க முடியும்? சூர்யாவை வரவழைக்க வேறு யுக்தியை யோசித்திருக்கலாம்.

மூன்று கதாபாத்திரங்களுக்கும் நன்கு வித்தியாசம் காட்டியிருக்கிறார் சூர்யா. காதல், பாசம் ஆகிய இடங்களில் அவர் நடிப்பு அவரது முந்தைய படங்களை நினைவுபடுத்துகிறது. வில்லன் ஆத்ரேயா தனித்து நிற்கிறார். புஜபலம் கொண்ட வில்லனாகச் சீறும் காட்சிகளைவிடவும் சக்கர நாற்காலியில் கூனிக் குறுகி உட்கார்ந்திருக்கும் காட்சிகளில் சூர்யாவின் நடிப்பும் உடல் மொழியும் அபாரம்.

சிறிய வேடம் என்றாலும் அழுத்தமான தடம்பதிக்கிறார் நித்யா மேனன். சமந்தா வரும் இடங்கள் அழகு. கண் கலங்கும் இடங்களில் சரண்யா நெகிழ வைக்கிறார். கிரிஷ் கர்னாடை இயக்குநர் வீணடித்திருக்கிறார்.
ஏ.ஆர்.ரஹ்மானின் பின்னணி இசை அற்புதம். பாடல்கள் கேட்கும்படி இருக்கின் றன. கலை இயக்குநர் அமித்ரா, சுப்ரதா சக்ரபோர்டி இருவரின் கைவண்ணத்தில் உருவான அறிவியல் ஆய்வுக்கூடம் ஆச்சரியப்படுத்துகிறது. மேகமலையின் அழகை அள்ளித்தரும் திருநாவுக்கரசுவின் கேமரா, சண்டைக் காட்சிகளுக்குத் தேவையான பரபரப்பையும் காட்டியிருக்கிறது.

ஒரு சில குறைகள், இழுவையான சில காட்சிகளை மீறிப் படத்தின் புதுமையும் விறுவிறுப்பான திருப்பங்களும் ஈர்க்கின்றன.

டைம் டிராவல் என்கிற கனமான, ரசிகர்கள் எளிதில் நம்பமுடியாத சப்ஜெக்டை, நம்பவைப்பது போல படமாக்குவது ரியல்லி ரிஸ்கி. படம் பார்க்கும் ரசிகனுக்குப் புரிந்து, இரண்டரை மணி நேரத்துக்கு மேல் அவன் மனதில் கேள்விகள் எழாமல் சுவாரஸ்யத்தில் ஆழ்த்தியிருக்க வேண்டும். ’24’ டீம் அதைச் சாத்தியப்படுத்தி இருக்கிறதா?
டைம் மெஷினை ஒரு கடிகாரத்துக்குள் அடக்குமளவுக்கு ஜீனியஸ், ’ட்வின்ஸ்’ சகோதரர்களில் ஒருவரான சூர்யா. அந்தக் கடிகாரத்தைக் கைப்பற்ற தன் தம்பியையே கொல்லவும் தயங்காத வில்லன் அண்னன் சூர்யா (ஆத்ரேயாயாடா..!). இதனால் 1990-ல் சகோதரர்களுக்குள் நடைபெறும் களேபரத்தில் சயிண்டிஸ்ட் சூர்யா உயிரிழக்கிறார். 26 வருடங்கள் கழித்து சயின்டிஸ்ட் சூர்யாவின் மகன் சூர்யா (ஆமாம்பா ஆமாம்... மூணாவது சூர்யாதான்!) அப்பா கண்டுபிடித்த கடிகாரத்தை வைத்து என்ன செய்கிறார் என்பதை நீளளளமாகச் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்கள்!

சிக்கலான டைம் டிராவல் சங்கதியில் ஆங்காங்கே சிக்சர் அடித்திருந்தாலும், பலஇடங்களில் மெகா சீரியல், ‘பழம்பெரும்’ காதல் காட்சிகள் என இனிமா மிக்சர் கொடுக்கிறது திரைக்கதை. படத்தின் ‘அடேங்கப்பா’, ‘அடப்போங்கப்பா’ காட்சிகளின் பட்டியல் இதோ!

அடேங்கப்பா 1:

சூர்யா!
சேதுராமன், ஆத்ரேயா, மணி என்று மூன்று கதாபாத்திரங்கள். சொல்லவே தேவையில்லை... இவர்களில் ஆத்ரேயாதான் அரை செஞ்சுரி அடிக்கிறார். ரஃப் அண்ட் டஃப் வில்லனாக சூர்யாவின் லுக்கும் கிக்கும் செம. ஆனால், ஆத்ரேயாவுக்கு வழக்கமான ‘டாய் டூய் வில்லன்’ செய்யும் வேலைகள்தான். இதைச் செய்ய, தமிழ் சினிமாவின் ‘குட் பாய்’ இமேஜை 99 வருட குத்தகைக்கு எடுத்திருக்கும் சூர்யா ஏன்? கெட்ட பையன் கேரக்டரில் இன்னும் கெத்து சேர்த்திருக்க வேண்டாமா? மணி பாத்திரம் ’அயன்’ காட்சிகளை நினைவூட்டும் குறும்புத்தனம்.

அடேங்கப்பா 2:

இடைவேளைக்கு முன் நிகழும் கடிகார நிறுவன சம்பவங்கள்... டி-20 பவர் ப்ளே விறுவிறுப்பு. இதே போன்ற பரபரப்பு, சமந்தாவுக்கு உண்மை தெரியும் சமயத்திலும், சர்ச் உரையாடலின்போதும் உண்டாகிறது. ஆனால், இவ்வளவு நீள ‘டைம் டிராவல்’ சினிமாவில் அதுதான் ‘ரேஸ் சேஸ்’ காட்சிகள் என்பது... யானை-பசி- சோளப் பொரி!

கலை இயக்கம். பார்த்தேயிராத பல கேட்ஜெட்டுகள் படத்தின் அத்தனை நிகழ்வுகளையும் நம்பவைக்கிறது. தமிழில் இத்தனை டெக்னிக்கல் நிறைகளோடு ஒரு கால இயந்திர சினிமா என்பது... பெரிய ஜம்ப்!

அடேங்கப்பா 4:

VFX அணியினருக்கு ஆவ்ஸ்ம் லைக்ஸ்.. மழைத்துளியை பாதியில் நிறுத்தும் அழகியலாகட்டும், டைம் டிராவல் உண்டாக்கும் கிராபிக்ஸ் ஆகட்டும் தூள்! டைம் டிராவல் கடிகாரத்தை கையில் கட்டும்போது கச்சிதமாகவும், ‘ஜூம்’ பார்வையில் சுவாரஸ்யமான இயக்கங்களுடனும் காட்டியிருப்பது... அட்றா சக்க... அட்றா சக்க!

அடேங்கப்பா 5:

‘திரு’வின் ஒளிப்பதிவு. கோபால சமுத்திரத்திற்கும், சென்னைக்கும் டோனிலேயே வேறுபாடு காண்பித்திருக்கிற கேமரா, சுரங்கப்பாதையில் சடுகுடுவென ஓடும்போதும் எக்ஸ்ட்ரா எனர்ஜியுடன் பணியாற்றியிருக்கிறது.

அடப்போங்கப்பா 2:

படம் ஆங்காங்கே ஸ்பீட் எடுப்பதற்குள், சரண்யா பொன்வண்ணனின் ஃப்ளாஷ்பேக், கோபாலசமுத்திரம், குடும்ப உற்சவம், வெள்ளிக்கிழமை மௌனவிரதம் என குடும்பக் காவியமாகவும் இல்லாமல், விறுவிறு சயின்ஸ் ஃபிக்*ஷனாகவும் இல்லாமல்... எல்லாம் இருக்கு... ஆனா, எதுவுமே நச்னு இல்லை என்பதாக இருக்கிறது!

’தெறி’க்கவிட்ட சமந்தாவா இது? அவரைச் சொல்லியும் குற்றம் இல்லை. அழகாக, ஸ்லீக்காக இருக்கிறார். ஆனால், காதலும் இல்லாமல், காமெடியும் இல்லாமல்... ஏதோ ஒரு விநோத ரசமஞ்சரியாக இருக்கும் காதல் அத்தியாயம் ஜவ்வ்வாய் இழுக்கிறது. கோபாலசமுத்திரம் வீட்டில் சூர்யா- சமந்தா இருவரும் அட்ரஸ் அட்ரஸாகப் பேசிக்கொள்ளும் காட்சியில், நாமே ஸ்க்ரீனுக்குள் குதித்து சூர்யாவின் வாட்சில் 20 நிமிடங்களை தள்ளிவைத்துவிடலாமா என்று பரபரக்கிறது.

கட் & பேஸ்ட் வசனங்கள். ‘நான் ஒரு வாட்ச் மெக்கானிக்’, ’ஜெனரலா ஒரு ஜெனரல் நாலேட்ஜ்’, சமந்தா - சூர்யா பரஸ்பரம் அட்ரஸ் சொல்லிக் கொள்வது, ’நான் 26 வருஷத்துக்கு அப்பறம் திரும்ப வந்தது...’ என அத்தனை சுவாரஸ்யமில்லாத வசனங்கள்... அவ்வளவு தடவை ரிப்பீட் அடிப்பது!

இயக்குநர் விக்ரம் குமாரின் ’யாவரும் நலம்’, ஒன்லைனராகச் சொன்னால் நம்பவே முடியாத ஒரு கதை. ஆனால் தில், த்ரில் திரைக்கதை மூலம் அதை நம்பும்படி செய்திருப்பார். ’24’ படத்தில் அப்படியான கிறுகிறுப்போ, விறுவிறுப்போ மிஸ்ஸிங். வேகத்தைக் குறைக்கும் ரொமான்ஸ் டிராமாக்கள், பொருத்தமற்ற இடத்தில் பாடல்கள் என்று...ப்ச்! ஏ.ஆர்.ரகுமான் இசை என்பது டைட்டில் கார்டில் மட்டுமே தெரிகிறது.

அப்படி ஒரு வாட்ச் கிடைத்தால், அதை சமந்தாவை கரெக்ட் செய்ய மட்டுமேவா உபயோகிப்பார் ஒருவர்? அதுவும் அந்த கிரிக்கெட் காட்சிகள்... வேணாம்... அழுதுருவோம்!

Sci-Fi மூவி என்று எதிர்பார்ப்பை உண்டாக்கிவிட்டு, அறிவியல், காதல், ‘வானத்தை போல’ குடும்பம் என எதுவுமே முழுமையாக ஒட்டாத டைம் டிராவல்!

டெய்ல்பீஸ்:-இயக்குநர் - எடிட்டர் கூட்டணி சுறுசுறுவென ஓவர்-டைம் பார்த்திருந்தால், கடிகார கால இயந்திர படம் பார்க்கும்போது, யாரும் தங்கள் கடிகாரத்தை அடிக்கடி பார்த்திருக்க மாட்டார்கள்!

Rather than the songs, what we should really worry about in our films is the symbolic power and metaphorical implications getting explained inside the film itself. And when it's not done, it becomes a complaint - Aararoo from 24 is a perfect exemple.

The utilisation of songs and background score points the difference in the scenes, time and suituations. Hats off ARR ji.

The lullaby song, is not a lullaby song, it's part of the script. We are pioneers in Musical Films, and that's our prettiness. Just like the opening song about creation in Enthiran, this mother's song in 24 is about the first 'baby' of Sethu Raman - Project 24. I think my problem with the movie was, I went into the film expecting an intelligent take on time travel but it was not. It was just a linear narrative with good guys and bad guys. They did not try to take any risk or attempt something new. Because I was expecting some intelligence to this movie I could not help but find faults throughout and nitpick everything. Which is why I wouldn't be able to sit through it again.

As Nasc had pointed out by shifting the adjective 'Brillant' from 'Sci-fi', and placing it before 'Thriller', 24-The Movie does not exploit much the time-travel. It just takes in the simple concept (yet it's complex on it's own right). But the packaging is wonderful - all the 3 Acts have longer thrills (opening, interval, climax), plus, Atreya's tricks are a bonus.

The time concept adapted by Vikram is under the 'casual loop' context. Simply put, it's not the time but it's based on the path. Just like getting tired while walking, the state of body gets blown each time the self enters in and out of the events irrespective to past or future. The time travel concept imagined by Vikram is not a 'closed time-like curve' where the space time bends itself with the time lines to create loops. It is more like a 'grandfather paradox', strictly keeping time as relative between chosen points of intersection, without considering the loop it generates but keeping only the alteration permanent.

Technically the freeze frames (ex: Matrix) or bullet time (ex: Max Payne) or time stopping (Ex: X-Men: Days of Future Past) used by Vikram are based on the Markov Time (property & chain model) : a continuous-time stochastic process which means that future behaviour of the model (both remaining time in current state and next state) depends only on the current state of the model and not on historical behaviour. Such a process is a sequenc of states.

There are other works with immpecable imagination juggling with time, the loops they handle will explode the brains, but Vikram keeps it simple and that's a beauty too.

Kalam En Kathali, is an important song that registers and educates about the climax. It's the first experience of Mani with the Time Stopping. The song begins wonderfully with the frame freeze, suspending the rain drops in mid air. Moreover, the spitting guy seen in the song links to the climax.

i kinda can relate to your anticipation ...
its like how nolan used the science facts like time dilation in interstellar or even in inception the concepts of kick and totem giving a sense/perception of a science fact.
in 24 its a given - they dont dwell much on how the watch works or even how mani was able to add the additional feature ...the movie focuses on the the incidents based on the set premise ..which i felt is marvelously knit

provided (being a science fanatic) i think , not considering the temporal paradox ( a past event affecting a future event cannot be altered ) time freeze is a brilliant idea not even explored in the hollywood studios

watched the movie. Terrific it was. Kids enjoyed the first half comedy with time freeze and time reverse tricks that Surya plays.

Only unwanted portion was the 7 minutes of unwanted romance in 2nd half which acts as speed breaker. But Rahman compensates it with 'Naan un' song.

Beautiful visuals, superb songs and fantastic story line and intelligent movie making makes this movie to tick on all fronts. Director has used a lots of creativity and has connected the dots very well.

Solid Movie overall. Want to watch it one more time when the movie hits DVD or tentkotta.

24- pretty decent..a good screenplay that kept me interested throughout the movie..surya was ok..nothing so great abt athreya I felt..and repeated dialogues of 'im a watch mechanic.. was kind of annoying..and I didn't find the movie 'intelligent' as stated in many reviews..I think Indru netru nalai was more 'intelligent'

it is about how one accepts error with a given scenario...in the chetpak scene..it was supposed to be a fun ,lighter scene and the director uses the liberty there. the imagino... phrase ..i am sure is gonna be used by college - school folks for the days to come ...anyways to each's own

The Phoenix watch company gets a mention when Athreya comes hunting for his brother during the start, but out of nowhere he is like the CEO or something in the middle of the movie.... any ideas?

It is 'narrative time' dependant, called 'Duration', where the 'Discourse-time' (spoken communication) takes the center stage in a story naration. [Other two factors that govern a narration are order & frequency]. No narrative retells absolutely everything that presumably happened in a story, those events that are considered most important will normally be told in some detail, others will be left out or summarised through the Discourse-time.

(Here I would like to add also : stretch/slow-down where discourse-time exceeds story-time meaning the time fixed by the narrator to narrate an event that he finds important exceeds the real time, which explains the elapsed time during the cricket stadium scene).

Anyway, the story starts and goes forward and come back to the start, at the points fixed by the narrator.

Going by the introductory lines of Athreya, the brothers should have been born in a clockwork family, the owners of Pheonix Watch company. Either it was an established company or as illustrated by Athreya, it's development grew multiple folds with the intervention of his master mind brother Dr. Sethu Raman. At this point of time at their meeting, the brothers were already rich - both their costumes and mansion stand proof - just that Atherya is greedy.

26 years later, with the aide of his friend Mithran, he was not only kept breathing, also (maybe), Mithran had carried forward the buisness inherited by Atherya after the demise of his family members. Much affection shown by Atherya at Mithran back-ups this theory.

The doctor says that he has been attending Atherya for 16 years. There is a lapse of 10 years : either the doctor was changed, or Atherya was active after the accident (jump) but prolonged into a coma afterwards or the director could have jumbled the past into the present (the same eagle provokes the fire) that Atherya was bedridden for 10 years and the fire accident had sent him to coma (he drops the key, the flaming clock symbolising the burning time speed).

Before I get into the 24 movie let me give you a interesting fact. In Mahabharatha, there is the story of King Raivata Kakudmi who travels to meet the creator Brahma. Even if this trip didn’t last long, when Kakudmi returned back to Earth, 108 yugas had passed on Earth, and it is thought that each yuga represents about 4 million years. The explanation Brahma gave to Kakudmi is that time runs differently in different planes of existence. This was written on 8th century. Isn’t this the story of highly raved movie Interstellar?

Let’s get into the businesss, 24 Movie written and directed by Vikram Kumar is one of the rare tamil movies which believes in audience intelligence. Vikram kumar has brilliantly delivered a fusion of all the commercial elements in a Sci-fi movie. Here I have listed down the 5 things which you may have missed in the movie.

SPOILERS AHEAD

1. Time travel
Did you notice that the time travel concept in 24 is different from other movies which are released in this genre? In 24 the actual person doesn’t travel and only his memories till date travels to either past or future him, Infact this what makes the movie a unique in the genre. The other app laudable idea is if the person travels with the watch to his past the person who has that watch at that time looses the watch, That’s why Mani looses the watch when Athreya travels back a day and Sethu looses the watch when Mani travels back.

2. Ayushman Bhava Contrast:
Athreya blesses sethu as “Ayushman bhava [Long live ]” before shooting him twice in the movie . As per his blessings sethu happens to live long, Mani saves him first by time travelling avoiding the shooting in train and the watch gets activated as soon as Athreya blesses sethu before shooting in the lawn. Intelligent writing isn’t it ?

3. The Eagle Effect:
We know about butterly effect which states that small changes causes large effect. Vikram kumar has used the same in 24. The director has used an eagle to create these small changes in the plot.
A eagle pushes the electrical wire from the watch man who was trying to disconnect the electricity on the transformer on the very first scene of the movie, This is the same wire which sethu uses to charge his watch in the climax.
The feather of the eagle falls into a chemical during experiment by sethu which makes his experiment a success and this is the only difference between the procedures followed by Athreya and Sethu for inventing the watch
Again the feather of the eagle is used to create fire in the hospital resulting in Athreya loosing the key resulting in the key finding its way to Mani
When Sethu throws the watch in the forest during climax we could hear the sound of an eagle at the background which could be used in the plot if they decide to do a sequel.

4. Stephen Hawking :
Many of you would have already knew that the Athreya character was inspired from the scientist Stephen Hawking. Interestingly stephen was perfectly fine until he is diagnosed with ALS disease at the age of 16. Stephen in one of his interview stated that his interest in time travel during his teen age evoked just because he could be back to his normal life if he has been treated earlier in his age, very similar to Athreya who desperately wants to get his normal life .

5. Time Freeze:
One of the interesting portion in the movie other than time travel is time freeze where the time freezes if you activate the device. Interestingly the movie “clock stoppers ” with a similar concept released in 2002. This could be a mere co-incidence or a genuine inspiration as they say the creative process begins with gaining inspiration.
I sincerely hope content driven movies like 24 succeeds big so that the stars of Tamil cinema lean towards such movies , A welcome change Isn’t it ?

1st Week: Good Fare For 24 And Supreme!

Last week, Sai Dharam Tej's "Supreme" and Suriya starrer bilingual "24" released in theatres worldwide in a big way. While Vikram Kumar's "24" got rave reviews and took the box-office by storm on the first day, "Supreme" received mixed reviews and got decent openings.

Expectedly, Suriya's "24" has performed strongly in A centers like Hyderabad city. By end of first week the movie has collected more than Rs 4 Crs in Nizam area alone. In Krishna district, it has collected Rs 76 lakhs. In East Godavari, it has collected an impressive 83 lakhs.

In West Godavari too, the movie has brought in Rs 55 lakhs in first week. And in Ceded, the first week share is about Rs 1.70 Cr. Overall, the movie has performed well in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
On the other hand, "Supreme" has showed steadfast collections in B and C centers throughout the week and has grossed decent amount by end of the first week. It has collected approximate Rs 11 Crs in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states.
Since the film was bought by Abhishek Pictures for a whopping amount, it needs to post strong collections this week too to turn out to be a hit.

Interesting movie spoilt by plastic samantha's presence/lou scenes, unwanted ARR's songs (weak album since parasuram) and that basically naan oru server sundaram repeat performance. Athuku cutting/shaving pannina, it will be good (attempted manipulation of game, first discovery of watch scenes, songs 2-4) which yields at least 20 minutes gone. Though I think Indru Netru Naalai did the time travel concept better.

Seen the film, it was refreshing to see something different among "Massala over dose" , Surya as expected excelled in all 3 roles.
On the negative side, it was a bit of a drag, romance scenes were so tedious and a testimony to one's patience ! ARR BGM, songs ,( except "Naan un"), were a big let down.

Trade: 24 Achieves A Rare Feat

Only a few Tamil films were able to get to this mark in this territory. 24 had a decent second weekend in US by collecting over $200K.

Here is the second weekend break up of 24 in US. Fri: $60K, Sat: $104K, Sun: $49K. With this the film has grossed over $1.506M in this territory so far. Vikram Kumar’s previous film Manam also was a big hit in US. That has collected over 1.5 Million Dollars here.

Sai Dharam Tej’s Supreme failed to attract US audience. The film’s second weekend collections were dismal despite any new releases. It has collected only $14K in its second weekend to take its overall tally to $112K in ten days.

Director Vikram Kumar's Variety Torture

Vikram Kumar is considered as one of the genius directors in Indian cinema industry at the moment. He has a very special talent of presenting complex stories in a very simplistic way so that even a layman could connect to. After 13 B and Manam, Vikram Kumar has once again put his talent to display in 24.

Although the actors feel blessed to be working with super talented Vikram Kumar, rumor has it that he is a nightmare to his producers!

Vikram Kumar is a very moody person who works on his own terms, says the buzz. Annapurna Studios people that have worked with him for Manam share their weird experiences with Vikram Kumar during the shoot.

Now it is Gnanavel Raja’s turn to see the other side of this genius director. When Raja asked Vikram to trim 24 by nine minutes, he stopped answering his calls, they say.

Vikram Kumar didn’t even care to talk to the producer even after he went to the director’s home to discuss about trimming the film.

“Edit whatever you want to, I won’t be doing it,” said Vikram Kumar as per the grapevine. When Vikram Kumar was supposed to attend a promotional event for an FM channel, he has reportedly switched his phone off and wasn’t reachable for anyone.
Gnanavel Raja had to apologize to the FM people for his director’s odd behavior. We hear many other stories about Vikram’s weird attitude and the torture that his team goes through on and off the sets.

Trivikram - Suriya Movie Doubtful?
Kollywood superstar Suriya turned producer recently and produced "24" with lavish budget. But he is set to lose heavily on this project in Tamil though his film is performing extremely well in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The Telugu version can be considered a hit but the Tamil version has turned out to be a big flop. In this scenario, he is reportedly planning to hold his next film in the direction of Trivikram in Telugu.
At present, Suriya is shooting for his trusted director Hari's "Singham" franchise. After completion of this movie, he wanted to begin a movie in the direction of Trivikram in Telugu and Tamil. But the fate of "24" in Tamilnadu has made him to think otherwise.
Trivikram has great grip on Telugu market but he may not understand what his fans in Tamilnadu want, Suriya is reportedly thinking.
Vikram Kumar's content has worked with Telugu audiences since he has made films in Telugu and he knows the market here but his taking didn't go well with the Tamilians.
Hence he doesn't want to take the risk of making a bilingual with Trivikram at this moment. He reportedly wants to do this movie after a year.

I looked at the numbers. Production cost 60C, promotion 5C. Total 65C
If they are going to end up close to 1.1 C or even 1.15C globally on the theatricals with another solid week plus satellite rights, Audio rights profit, two language sales of audio and Satellite, Now Hindi Film Industry folks are keen to acquire the remake rights add another 5C at the least.
It is more than 2.5 times the making costs!. They should feel happy. No Shankar/ ARM/ MR and still movie is a 100 Cr club and it brought many critics to cheer and say nice things about the movie. What more can the production house or the exhibitors can expect in these days when movies dont even remain in the cinema halls? Piracy would have eaten a small piece of this pie.
Uttama Villan- classic example. Novelty in every department of story telling, camerawork, Music making and all of it. Common movie goer refused to lap-up this rare genre of a film making. 15 years from now they will celebrate it as though they just came out of brain dead state (like athreya) and start aggressively talking about promoting the movie like Anbe Sivam (recent parallel).

I saw the movie with family on the first day , here in Atlanta and my 12 year son liked it. He didnt complain any bit or about the lagging portions!. My seven year old liked it in bits and again did not grumble either , otherwise in about 1 hour he would start humming....lets go! Movie is over ... He did it for UV but not for papanasam or Theri.

As per the editor it was supposed to be Intro for hero and some sequences around that..later they removed it. That triggered the rumour for prequel.

'24' box office collection: Suriya's film joins Rs. 10-crore club in KeralaSuriya's "24" has created history in Kerala. The Tamil flick has made a record breaking collection in God's Own Country and has now joined the Rs. 10-crore club.
The movie has grossed Rs. 10 crore at the Kerala box office. In fact, he is the fourth actor to register his name in the Rs. 10-crore club in Kerala after superstar Rajinikanth, Vikram and Ilayathalapathy Vijay. "Enthiran," "I," "Theri," "Kaththi" and "Thuppakki" are the Tamil films that have reportedly made collection of above Rs. 10 crore in Kerala.
