Rehearsals in full swing for Rajinikanth-Ranjith film

Shooting of Rajinikanth’s new film with director Ranjith will commence on August but the director has already busy organizing an acting work shop for the entire cast.
Sources say that Ranjith has done similar kind of rehearsal camps for his previous two films, Attakathi and Madras.
Though Ranjith has asked Rajinikanth to join the shoot directly, Superstar has recently made a surprise visit to the rehearsal camp and practiced some of his scenes from the film.
When upcoming actors are reluctant to rehearsals, Superstar Rajinkanth’s involvement at this age deserves a big applause.
To be produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, the untitled film will have music by Santhosh Narayanan.

படத்தில் இருக்கும் இன்னொரு முக்கியவேடத்தில் ஹாலிவுட்நடிகர் அர்னால்டு நடிக்கவிருப்பதாகச் செய்திகள் வந்திருக்கின்றன. அவருக்கு முன்னால் இந்தப்படத்தில் நடிக்க ஷாருக்கானிடம் பேசியாகச் சொல்லப்பட்டது. அந்த வேடத்தில்தான் இப்போது அர்னால்டு நடிக்கிறார் என்று சொல்கிறார்கள். அர்னால்டு கேட்டுவிட்டு ஒப்புக்கொள்ளும் ஒரு வேடத்தில் நடிக்க ஷாருக்கான் மறுத்துவிட்டாரே என்கிற எண்ணம் எல்லோருக்கும் ஏற்படுவது இயல்பு.

தற்போது ரஜினி - ஷங்கர் இருவரும் மீண்டும் இணைந்து 'எந்திரன் 2' படத்திற்கான கதை விவாதத்தில் ஈடுபட்டு வந்தார்கள். 'எந்திரன் 2' படத்தில் ரஜினிக்கு வில்லனாக நடிக்க கமலிடம் பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடத்தினார்கள். ஆனால், கமல் மறுத்துவிட்டார். அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து விக்ரமிடம் பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடத்தினார் ஷங்கர். ரஜினிக்கு வில்லனாக நடிக்கவிருப்பது யார் என்பது தான் தற்போதைய கோடம்பாக்க டாக்காக இருக்கிறது.

இந்நிலையில், 'எந்திரன் 2' படத்திற்கான முதற்கட்ட பணிகள் துவங்கி இருக்கின்றன. காட்சிகள் வடிவமைப்பு அனைத்துமே முடிந்து, எந்த காட்சியில் கிராபிக்ஸ் எப்படி வர வேண்டும் என்பதை முடிவு செய்துவிட்டார் ஷங்கர். அதற்கான பணிகள் துவங்கி இருக்கின்றன.

Thus, a necessity arises during the needed hour to bring a balance, until matters exceeds the vessel its been held, a complete elimination is most welcome - Glad that the Gaurdians are with us (and within us). But what if an evil has the power to create, maintain and destruct. A kind of [I]3-in-1 evil which knows itself and runs a parrellel office to do the God's Own Duty. Its here the 'Welcome' sign boards read RUN!

Endhiran-the movie, sees the menance of Chitti, a humanoid created for serving humans. Chitti is a button pusher - it can multiple, disappear or pulverize. As the never ending Pandora Box Gifts, Chitti clones pop up. Pure rampage, the massacre the human world wishes to forget.

He stroms in & takes Sana with him tearing apart anything that seemingly moves before him. To stop the unstoppable, an army of gaurds embark with their armory. Chitti gracefully graces them all with his bullets, as a challenge to the 'over-looking' God himself.

When Professor Bhora re-assembles Chitti, he was clueless over the outcome until his head was samshed by Chitti. But when Chiti meets Vassegaran - the man who gave Chitti the power of force and love, Chitti offers him an option - a rare event. Chitti asks him how he would wish his death to be - a brain splatter or a heart crusher. Aiming at his heart through the tunnel of Vassegaran's throat, Chitti triggers his 'Hand Made Gun'. Vassegaran's last vision is Chitti - Meeting Terminated.

Immortal Chitti thought he was incapable of death. Lost in this confidence is a weakness of unimmaginable power - Love. Chitti once did not know the difference between a grenade and a rose, but eventually ends up using the grenade to accuire the rose. When Vasegaran created Chitti, it immediately became a Miracle Machine. Its over attentiveness got itself into trouble, as Chitti started to see its place amoung the humans. To register its presence, Chitti falls in love with Sana. This change of 'mechanical-events' does not go well with Vasegaran who dismantles Chitti to save his love Sana. And thats when the doors of Hell were opened, when Chitti reemerges and challenges his creators. But his weakness is very much visible, using which he gets 'tricked-n-treated'.

Chitti becomes an epitome - It's not living as such that's important. It's living rightly.

But the reality has more surprises for them, when Ganga assumes that Saravanan is to be avenged. Vettaiyan's end is what Chandramukhi seeks, but the debt is paid by Saravanan, but hope delivers him with only one card to play it against Ganga.

A team of professors-the Gods of creation, are lead by the Master of Chitti, Vaseegaran, to bring down the war machine Chitti. The Kings, appointed by the Gods to do their clean up work are armed and ready. The Gaurdians (the Police & the Military) take stand equiped with hightech gadgets surrounding the position of Chitti. They all have thiers fingers ready - the Gods on the clavier and the Kings on the trigger. All the while Vassegran is somewhere nearer to Chitti as he had inflitrated Chitti's den only because Chitti took his bait - Sana.

Fortified with sophisticated hardware and robotic gaurds, Chitti created a Palace for Sana over the ransaked building away from the mainland. Chitti's mechanical disciples took care of loading the 'Sana Palace' by stealing valubles straight from the Heavens itself. Chitti announces to Sana that they are the 'King & Queen' for eternity. With rolling eyes, still looking for any signs of Vassegaran, Sana stretches her lips to convince Chitti the accord. Chitti hurries into Sana's cubicle hearing to her wish to see him immediately. But it was already too late, when Chitti realises that Vassegaran is inside and the Palace is surrounded. 'Doom, but for Whom ?' Chitti Laughs.

The Ball of Metals

The Gods launch the first attack, an immense power bolt that disables the Chitti Clones, making Chitti himself realise his blindness. The Kings charge-in guns blazzing, capturing anything thats made of minerals. The Gods smile & the Kings put a 'Game Over Chitti' look on their faces. Surprised and pannicked Chitti looks around him. Stung with deception, Chitti cries out his command - 'Soldiers, Assemble'. Thus the attack on Gods and Kings begun, as the Iron Slaves of Chitti group together into a Ball of Metal and spin the sphere of bullets tearing everything on its path and just to make things clear, they roll over anything that's breathing. Inbetween the metal flock and at a prime spot, Chitti hangs a Evil Smile.

The Tower of Terror

Stroming out, the Metal Ball of Chitti Clones meet the waiting surprise. Huge land bombers and war tanks stand arranged before them. And not giving any time for the rolling ball, the Kings start spraying bombs. To evade the huge cannons, the Clones expand to set the flight of the bombs through the gaps which reach the wrong destination - the opposite side where the attack of the Kings are happening in a circular perimeter. Quicky the clones lay flat as a metal carpet to guide the missiles uninterrupted. They form a huge pillar knocking their targets like a spinning stick over weak leaves. To take down the tanks, they form a huge iron wall and smash them to pieces. All of a sudden, a heavy hit lands on the clones seperating them and pushing them to the ground. Seeing the immobile Chitti Clones, the pilots of the Black Hawk pass victory signs, when a knock at a pilot's window changes the story of actual events. The pilot hears with astonishment the last words coming from Chitti, who spoke as a crown over a seaming Tower of Terror - "May I come in".

The Gods crowded the battle field with the Kings - the back-up has arrived. Several armed men get out of their shielded cars with rocket lauchers, firing them at the Towering Terror. Chitti Clones crumble and witness the power of the re-enforcement. They start to spin around each other becaming a huge Metal Rattler and consume all the gun croaking frogs. At the very moment, another Black Hawk fires its weapon at the Clones, but it just ends up gaining the attention of Chitti. The Demon Serpent winds up a nearby building by crushing it with its weight and reaches the Hawk. With one efficient Snake Leap, it swallows the Eagle asserting that 'Size Does Matter'.

The Metal Roopam

Witnessing their defeat between their eyes, the Gods deceide to launch another of their power - Disable Mantra. Chitti Clones are motionless and are now trapped inside a metal 'wasp-web'. Chitti lifts his head, and along with him the clones soar high forming a demonic drill pearcing the earth that its core felt the vibrations. In a fraction of seconds, Chitti burries himself along with his disciples and disappears in no time. Silence, only the dust particles chatting, the Gods and Kings look at each other, they look around, no sign of their menance but soon they realise that they are still vulnerable, when Chitti unearths himself with his 'trade-mark-evil-smile'. Behind him are the clones in a form that reminded every single man about their childhood. First came the hand, then came the head followed by a huge feet. Before them was the 'metal-muscluar' Chitti confined tightly by the clones. The Metal Gaint uses a skyscrapper to rest its elbow, and the Gods and Kings assembled together below became petty flies. Watching the current of the battle not waving to his favour, Vasegaran takes off with Sana in the multi-wheeled chariot.

Thus begins the chase, and when Chitti reaches the Hi-tech bus holding his Master and his Mate, The Metal Roopam becomes the last vision of both Vasegaran & Sana.

Rajini - Ranjith project excites me more than Rajini - Shankar project. Sivaji and Enthiran was not bad but at the same time did not create any big impact for Rajini except taking his name globally. Still 90's continue to be a golden period for him. My sincere wish is that, Ranjith should open the golden period for superstar once again and from the on, Rajini should choose powerful scripts that allow him either to express his acting prowess or atleast charisma rather than doing a shankar's movie that is just glossy with little or no substance. We have many talented new directors out there. With some amount of brainstorming and encouragement from a person of caliber Rajini, definitely they can make wonders with fresh ideas.

Our sources say that director Ranjith has approached Radhika Apte to play a pivotal role in Rajinikanth’s new film for which the shooting is likely to kick start by the first week of August.
Reports say that actress is yet to sign the dotted line but once the briefing is done and also her call sheet matches with the stipulated schedule, she is likely to be on board.
To be produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, the film will have music by Santhosh Naryanan, cinematography by Murali and editing by Praveen KL.

'Kaali' was a landmark role in Rajini's career and has never done a role as such ever. That 'Rajini' is sadly missed since then. Mullum-Malarum saga was interesting as to how it happened and the way it ended. It started with poor reception and by sheer wom, it capitulated to success. Chakravarthy played a psycho villain in the Vishal starrer 'Samar' in which he tortures the hero till the climax of the film without revealing who he is.

It is believed that the film has Attakathi Dinesh, Kalaiarasan and Prakash Raj are in the cast and that the team has approached Radhika Apte to play the female lead. The film is all set to begin filming in the first week of August in Malaysia.

I think we'd have to be more open here, trust Ranjith's judgments and hope for the best. In that sense choices are limited. Even Vikram's choice if that works out is something I dont prefer for E-2 .. Prakash Raj is already playing a role from what I saw and he could have been a good choice .. if he's playing a villain role.

i don't think its true. in a kumudam interview few years ago, ilayaraja mentioned that rajni refused to act in the 'amma endru azhaikatha' song as it did not suit his image. p.vasu asked IR to convince rajni. IR just made a phone call and rajni agreed to do it.

Most of us know Panchu Arunachalam as the writer-producer who introduced maestro Ilaiyaraaja as a composer in films with Annakili. What few are aware of is how he helped redefine commercial Tamil cinema and shaped the then budding careers of Rajinikanth (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Rajinikanth) and Kamal Haasan and turned them into superstars. And that is what an upcoming documentary on the life of one of the most successful writers in Tamil cinema, is going to reveal to modern-day audiences. Excerpts from an exclusive interview with National Award-winning film historian and producer G Dhananjayan, who has directed the documentary:

What made you choose Panchu Arunachalam as the subject of your documentary?
More than me choosing, it was the other way round. I was working on a documentary on film chronicler Film News Anandan. I was doing background research when the National Award was announced and I had to go to Delhi to receive the award. The first call I got when I came back was from Panchu sir's son Subbu. He had heard about the documentary on Film News Anandan and asked me if I would be willing to do something similar for his dad, who has written 100 films. I told him that I would love to do it if he will get me the dates of Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Ilaiyaraaja.

Can you elaborate on how you worked on the documentary?Since Panchu Arunachalam is very ill, he could talk to me at the most for two hours a day — between 5 pm and 7 pm. The documentary process is a very long one. First, you have to understand what questions you have to ask the subject when he is on camera. I started researching on him. I looked at Film News Anandan's compilation and traced all the films that Panchu sir has worked on and then went and verified it with his own list. Then, I crosschecked the facts with the DVDs of the films to see how he was credited in each and every film. Many know Panchu Arunachalam's career from Annakili, but he has worked on 13 films before that. So far, he has 99 films to his credit as a writer. In addition to these, he has written the song lyrics for over 200 films. He has written his hundredth film recently and so, this documentary is also a celebration of that landmark. It has taken 45 days so far and we have interviewed several people who have worked closely with him, including Rajinikanth, Ilaiyaraaja, Bharathiraaja, SP Muthuraman, Sivakumar, Sathyaraj, Prabhu, Radikaa, Khusbhu, Gangai Amaren among others. We will be recording Kamal Haasan. My only regret is not getting MS Viswanathan. They had worked together on songs for 15 years, and he was supposed to speak for this and reveal how they worked together with Kannadasan. But then he fell sick and we couldn't get him eventually. His passing away is the biggest loss to the documentary.

Generally, documentaries that are made here tend to be hagiographies. Will this one deal with the controversial aspects of its subject's life?
Panchu Arunachalam is a great writer, lyric writer and producer, so there was a lot of things that people had to share about him — both the good and the bad. Even though Panchu sir did not wish to speak of certain things because he did not want to hurt people or create a controversy out of this, the others spoke about those things, so this documentary will bring out many unrevealed truths. Though the intention is not to sensationalize things, the documentary will be a very honest attempt. It will talk about a person who could have become a big studio boss but remains an ordinary producer. He has created wonderful hits for stars but he never made money. Where exactly did things go wrong? That way, his life will be a good lesson to the industry. He has openly talked about his failures, and how despite being so knowledgeable about the film business, things went wrong. During the shoot of one particular episode, he completely broke down as he couldn't take the pain of reliving the harrowing experience.

What do you say is the legacy of Panchu Arunachalam apart from being the person who introduced Ilaiyaraaja?
He is the one who reinvented commercial Tamil cinema. Till 1977, MGR and Sivaji films were dominating the box office. MGR's was formula films while Sivaji's was family films. Annakili released in 1976 and folk music became a big trend. In 1977, Tamil cinema changed tracks with 16 Vayathinile, and village-based, realistic films started becoming the norm. People were apprehensive about mainstream commercial films doing well, but Panchu Arunachalam wrote Murattu Kalai in 1980 to show that commercial films are needed to reach B and C centres. And he took Kamal Haasan, who was till then considered an A-centre star, to the B and C centres with Sakalakala Vallavan in 1982. It became the first Tamil to do a business of `1 crore. So, he redefined commercial cinema and showed you can get maximum turnover with these films. In a way, you can blame him for making hardcore commercial cinema the centre of Tamil cinema, which would have otherwise taken the realistic films route. But those films would not have helped our films penetrate into the interior areas. At the same time, he did not forget good cinema and wrote films like Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai and Engeyo Ketta Kural.

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have acted in many films written by Panchu Arunachalam. What role did he play in their careers?
He did 23 films with Rajinikanth and 13 with Kamal Haasan. He wrote commercial films for Rajini (Kazhugu, Pokkiri Raja, Paayum Puli) and Kamal (Thoongadhey Thambi Thoongadhey, Uyarndha Ullam) one after another. However, despite managing the careers of two superstars, he never played games. That is why both these actors trusted him. If you take Rajinikanth, with Bhuvana Oru Kelvikuri, he turned Rajinikanth, who was until then acting as a villain into a hero, then made him a superhero with Murattu Kaalai, and then brought him back to family audiences with Engaeyo Kaetta Kural. In his career, there are five films that the Superstar himself speaks of as close to his heart — Bhuvana Oru Kelvikuri, Mullum Malarum, Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai, Engeyo Ketta Kural and Sri Raghavendra. Out of these five, three were written by Panchu Arunachalam. So, in that sense, he is the man who invented Rajinikanth as an actor and showed the world that he can act. Even Rajini sir acknowledges this in the documentary, and says, "Even though Balachander sir is the one who introduced me, Panchu Arunachalam is the person who made me a big artist."

The sequel to Shankar's Rajinikanth starrer mega blockbuster Enthiran may soon become a reality.
According to latest reports, Enthiran 2 will be made at a whooping budget of Rs 300 crore with 27 assistant directors and 10 executive producers.
Sources say that the pre-production work is already underway.
It was earlier reported that actor Vikram was offered the role of the antagonist in the film, but there has been no confirmation from the actor as yet.
Enthiran was made at a budget of Rs 130 crore and collected Rs 290 crore at the box office worldwide.

It was the highest grossing Tamil film of all time until Baahubali (http://www.rediff.com/movies/report/bahubali-becomes-highest-opener-of-the-year/20150712.htm), which released recently, surpassed it.
Shooting for the film will commence as soon as Rajinikanth wraps up his next film with director Pa Ranjith of Attakathi and Madras fame, which is scheduled to begin this August.

It is not just the story, Param - Shankar, Rajamouli etc are some of the few directors who are enough detail-oriented to bring out a good finished product. KSR may be great at project/people management but sucks at everything else these days....

NS is too subtle and refined an actor to do commercial films - even though he did a few in the 80s/90s - he even did the villains role in that film with 'Trichy topiwale' song - he may not do it anymore and even if he did, won't be bombastic enough to suit Shankar's taste! Raghuvaran was the best bet, but drugs took care of him for good - maybe a re-invented Sathyaraj? or an Amir Khan if he agrees? AK was just brilliant in 1947-Earth as the conniving bad guy

From the never- ending rounds of speculations surrounding the cast and crew of Rajinikanth's next film with director Ranjith, comes this bit of confirmed news that Ranjith has roped in Attakathi Dinesh for a pivotal role in the film. We had earlier reported that Radhika Apte will be the female lead in the film. Interestingly, this casting seems to be the continuation of a friendship forged during the days of Ranjith's debut film, Attakathi, which had Dinesh in the lead. The duo had kept up with each other, and have been good friends since then.

A source close to the makers of the film has also confirmed this news, saying, "Dinesh will be a part of the film, but as of now, we haven't officially signed the agreement." Ranjith has apparently penned an interesting character for Dinesh — something of crucial importance to the film.

Actress Deepika Padukone is undoubtedly at the top of game with a string of successful films like Piku, Finding Fanny and Happy New Year. And now the actress may add another gigantic hit to her body of work.
Filmmaker Shankar has reportedly approached the Cocktail star for a role opposite Rajinikanth in the sequel of his 2010 film Robot (Enthiran in Tamil).
Deepika has previously worked with Rajinikanth in his daughter Soundarya R Ashwin's debut film (as director) Kochadaiiyaan. However, the film used photo-realistic motion capture technology.
Robot, which featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead role, was the top-earning Indian film that year beating Shah Rukh Khan's My Name Is Khan and Salman Khan's Dabangg. It's record for the highest grossing South film of all time was broken by SS Rajamouli's Baahubali - The Beginning, this year.
Meanwhile, Deepika, who has reportedly doubled her fee after her current successes, has also become rather picky about the films she signs.
Rumours suggest that Yash Raj Films head Aditya Chopra wanted Deepika in his film Victor starring Hrithik Roshan and which will be directed by Dhoom: 3 famed Vijay Krishna Acharya. However, Deepika turned down the offer since she didn't fancy her role in the film.
Deepika has previously worked with YRF's Bachna Ae Haseeno, also starring Ranbir Kapoor, Minissha Lamba and Bipasha Basu.
Busy Ms Padukone will be next seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani along with Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra. Further, she is busy working on Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha co-starring Ranbir.

Mumbai: Radhika Apte is soaring high with success of her performance in the short film ‘Ahalya’ and now she is ready to add another feather to her cap. The actress has signed the dotted line opposite superstar Rajinikanth in his next Tamil film.
Radhika is the fourth Bollywood actress- after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha to star opposite Rajinikanth. The actress who considers Rajinikanth an exceptional star considers it to be a rare opportunity and is thrilled that the film fell into place.
Even though Radhika has worked in several films in the past, she isn’t quite familiar with the language. The film will tentatively go on floors by the end of August.

Rajini Formula

Couple of years back I had a chance to meet one of my favourite actress during a Film Festival. I was amazed to see her explaining how she was thrown into a scene and how she continued to perform for a whole 5 mins, the longest in her carrier. The very first scene of the film was with her and it was not an easy one. She plays a mother of a 8 years old, and the locataion was at the cemetery, the burial of her fictional child. It was on the sets she came to know about the scene, and she peeped over the execution script and found that their were close-up, trolly and a POV from the tomb shots as though her son was looking at her from everywhere. She walked in and became emotional before the tomb trying her best to provide various facial movements. After a whole 5 minutes, she heard 'cut', and it was a one take. She actually brought out a demise in her own family to enact it through the character.

Another actor, (due to the suject being personel I am not giving the name), suffered a loss and saw his own son stuck to the bottom. Recently, he is been doing only father roles, the character saving their kids or bringing back their son who have lost the path or cope up with their seperated child.

Uta Hagen in her work "Respect for Acting" (thanks Arvind), explains about how the Real Thinking affects the Character's thinking (in the chapter 7). Here are few lines that interested me to explore more the character and understand the artist who is performing it :

Sometimes the diligent actor mistakenly goes so far as to write out his character’s thoughts as if they were indeed dialogue. Real thinking precedes, is accompanied by, and follows action. Real thinking is active.

Thoughts spring from the contact with these inner objects (things or people not present in the room only as images in the mind), and bring about an inner action.

I never ask, “What were you thinking?” Instead, I ask, “What were your inner objects?” so that you will get out of the habit of even verbally analyzing your thought process.

The actor’s thinking depends on the subjective process of weighing the course of action by a contact with inner and outer objects.

So, a single thought can elivate or destruct a character that an artist is playing. At the make-up room he disguises himself as a character. And what we see on screen is not the artist but the character itself. Imagine if the real life and the character life collide and in that process discover that they are one and the same. This helps the artist to acheive the demanded through his fictional character, where his inner objects are real and the outer objects fall into place with the desired reality.

There is a difference between creating a comfort zone & establishing a comfort zone. Rajini establishes a huge circle, enveloppes all the co-artists inside, including the camera & called in shots. At post production, he becomes a wonder at the editing table that through his potrayal of the character scripted for motion picture, the laps & lags gets erradicated automatically. When an artist performs and ends his action at the same time the director calls for the cut, this sync is what makes the scene a cult and the film, a classic. Rajini has mastered this art of curiosity, that he is aware of each and any position in the closed room where the scene is filmed. The role he has taken guides him to that point, where even being silent amoung the crowd, the character is still visible as he continues to put it up.

Rajini is a sort of a gem which has the capacity and capability to shine itself, and readily accepts to be polished by film makers. In my recent ongoing work Chaturmukha, the Deva character, the man with the whip, is inspired from Bhairavi. In the film Bhairavi, its very difficult to perform the character's physical and mental agony at the same time, during the whole second half. The limp that Mookaiyah makes is maintained throughout the 2nd half by Rajini without any deviations, and the climax is a class of its own. Recently, another film hit the screen and it looked like 6 different persons playing the same character. The artist (to avoid clash, I am not mentioning) was not concentrating and his mind was blabbering, that inbetween shots he looked so different. His thought process has runined not only the scenes, but the whole viewing experience too. And the make up was annoyingly wrong.

And to add the class effect, Rajini walks & talks like the character would do, but puts up a uniqueness to it. As there is much to tell about it, but here, I will just point out his eye movements. Its not only about looking, its about using it. While delivering a dialogue, you could note that Rajini shrinks his eyes more often, and the sight motion varies according to the uttered words - anger, sympathy, pity, challenge, etc. To give you an immediate exemple, in Lingaa after the Train Fight sequence, Lingaa is enquiring the hitmen in a compartment where the windows were broken during the stunts. Its in a indoor set with all the necessary visual effects. You could note that, only Rajini would be flattering his eyes as though the breeze from the broken window is hitting his face. Thats called presence of mind of an artist. Several such Rajini moments could be found from several footages, in which what is enacted gets reciprocated from the audience. And walking & talking is not a easy task, only proper theatre artists master this format.

Talking about make-up, with powders or just the attire, it should make the artist comfortable. As mentioned few months back, give Rajini a beard, he will thank you for that. He is so comfortable with it (and his fans like myself) that it certainly projects on screen. Plus the costumes, which makes an artist enter into the character while leaving the make-up room. Rajini gets in, gets the job done & gets out, all credits to the makers who have designed something unique called Rajini Formula.

Thalaivar acting another movie is a big No-No trends have changed, The man who is used to creating trends now have to follow. Its a very tough act at his age. If he is doing this for his
financial troubles (I highly doubt it) as a fanatic I will support. But if he doing this to create some sort of BO sensation, its high time he should re-think this whole game.
Its definitely not worth it. RK fans will have blood tears in their eyes , if he keeps blabbering things like I want to do a Hollywood movie and I am working with a top class under the bus director for next 15 years
and nothing to show for. And all in the name of promoting his movies. (Tamil - translation - Hollywood-la apam suttan - Vollywood-la Vadai suttan - Tea kadaila bajji saptten).

Bottomline I hope doesn't get desperate and commits himself to a director who can't deliver and a movie he can't pull off at his age.

‘The Rajini film is a dream come true’

Radhika Apte is on a career high. Even short films starring her have been received well by both audience and critics. And now, Manjhi The Mountain Man, has been going viral, even before its release. Apte on Sunday, joined co-star Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Hyderabad to promote Manjhi. “I like Hyderabad. I have a lot of friends and family here so it’s always a holiday when I come here. Two of my very close friends from school had shifted to Hyderabad earlier and my grandmother’s sister and my aunt stay here. I’m close to all of them,” the actress says.
She’s eager to talk about Ahalya, a short directed by Sujoy Ghosh. “The reactions to Ahalya have been overwhelming.” Apte has been slowly making her presence felt in regional cinema and her work spans the Bengali, Telugu, Tamil and Marathi movie industries. She also feels regional cinema has given her better exposure. “I did not do it intentionally. I took up these movies because they were good projects. But they do give me better exposure, visibility. When I go to these states and when people recognise me because of my work in that particular language, I do feel good.”
She’s also gearing up for a movie with Rajinikanth. “It feels amazing to have bagged that project. I did not even give a screen test for the movie. I just got a call one day saying I’m being sent the synopsis and that they want me on board. Only three Bollywood actresses have worked with him so far... I am the fourth. So I feel privileged,” she adds.
Like Siddiqui, Manjhi’s shoot did put Apte to the test too and the star explained the “hectic” schedule in Bihar… where the story is based.
“It was hectic. We’d wake up by 3 am and sleep by 10 or 11 pm. That place is not developed at all. And it is a naxal-affected region so, I must admit the shoot wasn’t comfortable but people there were very helpful.”
Show business has kept Apte away from British musician husband Benedict Taylor for long stretches. The two wed in 2011 shortly after her year-long stint in the UK to learn dance. Despite her movie shoots and the distance, the actress says the duo have made time for each other. “We manage, don’t worry,” she says, before wrapping up.

An artist's carrier is like a mechanical wave, the longitudinal and transverse wave motion calculated by hits and flops. Every artist gets a chance to the peak in his carrier, normally known as Golden Period. Usually it stays a decade long, and how the artist sustains, he retains. As usual, in Rajini case it was different. Nineties were not Golden Age for Rajini, but something beyond, like a modernity in time. The nineties not only catapulted the phenomenon called Rajinikanth, it looked as though the nature was at his call too. Fifteen years after his official entry into the celluloid industry, a new on screen Rajinikanth was reborn, with all new hair style and a even brighter charismatic attire, and that made this peroid proud to be called as Platinum Age.

The nineties was not only about films, it about the audience and their reations too. Rajini Films in the nineties completely tranformed the viewers experience, thus a new genre was born - Rajinikanth. He was no more just an actor, but a part of the film itself. When artists were trying to go through the script, in Rajini case, the script bended itself to run into the genre called Rajinikanth. In a nut shell, the base of the characters he played is of a 'righteous-man', but the themes that were handled and the suituations which were created, makes the Nineties Rajini Films interesting & entertaining.

During the coarse of several months, I had put out songs on various Themes, and if you had paid attention, the list will be topped by a Rajini song from the films he had acted in the nineties. I always felt that the areas that Rajini had covered is quite vast and a Rajini Film contained everything within itself. Its was kind of break to the film makers to explore a pattern that governs by itself - Hero Based Plots. Further came 'new-gen' film makers, who quickly understood the Rajini Formula, that decades have passed but it is yet fade.

RDRS

Rajini starred in various films in the nineties, taking up different roles :

- a man who shoulders his friend
- a soul in search of a body
- an orphan in the path of finding his origins
- a brother who gives himself for his sibblings
- a friend who is offended by his companion
- a brother who set forward the path of righteousness
- a married man who is stuck between love & responsibility
- a father
- a police officier
- a worker
- a don
- an entrepreneur
- above all, the ultimate man, who fights with the ego.

In all these characters, 'hand-made' for Rajini himself, takes on the evil sheding light to the human nature, and elaborated that 'excuse' is the right path to harmony. Rajini battles forward on screen to counter each attempt against himself, and when the rest get tired doing so, Rajini keeps going even faster than before. All contained within but expressed through variety of roles. His look got remodified, hinted for the first time in the late eighties (Vellaikaran & Rajathi Raja), it was highly from Pannakaran that his attire got fixed. The opening scene as a garçon in a restaurant marked his entry to the Nineties - Rags to Riches - in his latest film Lingaa (2014) he plays a role of a Raja.

In any actor's carrier, for that in any buisness oriented industry there are important aspects that come ahead of a Profit. The first and foremost is the Image, followed by Growth, exercised by Development (new ideas), surrounded by Fans (customers), aided by an efficient entourage (employees) and finally the Profit. The nineties saw Rajini exercising every bit of it to his benefit. Rajini played an important role in setting an unique trend, both in the industry as well as amoung the audience that all that one heard was 'Rajini Padam' (a Rajini starrer) and no question asked, but all shows House Full. Thus, Rajini started to explore more into several zones, with different film makers and essaying various roles, but keeping one thing fix - to be a Super-Hero you have to poccess the Power - The Screen Power.

Rajini effortlessly wiped out the audience range. Its the period where his fans, like myself, told him right at his face "Thalaiva Nee Vantha Mattum Potham" [your mere screen presence is enough]. His colloborations with various artists & techniciens in the field, and the measures he took to keep us entertained, showered him with more love and sucess in equal measures.

Finally, his movies just minted money. The FDFS got an entirely different tone ...

Rajinikanth's Ranjith film title is 'Kannabiran'?

Earlier, there were reports that Rajini’s new film with Ranjith has been titled as Kaali. But the superstitious Kollywood industry has informs us that films whith titles of Gods like like Kaali and Narasimha are jinxed and has proved unlucky.
It is said that the first fire accident in Tamil cinema had happened during Rajinikanth’s 1980 film, Kaali while even before the release, the director of Vijayakanth’s Narasimha had died in a car accident.
After hearing these factors, Rajinikanth is said to have asked Ranjith to think of alternative titles for the film and one among them is said to be, Kannabiran.
Apparently, the title ‘Kannabiran’ belongs to director Ameer and it is his dream film which deals about the life of a gangster. In various interviews, Ameer has said he wants to make Kannabiran with Vijay and even met the actor regarding the same.
It is rather interesting to note that Rajini is also said to be playing a gangster in Ranjith’s movie!

The Henchmen

An henchman is a secondary villain who follows the selfish interest of his employee and is often seems to be the main part in the evil plans. The Henchman is a major hiderance for the Super-Hero and most probably he will be the last hurdle for our Hero to cross before reaching the Super Villain. Several henchmen have walked through Comics giving a hard time for our Heroes, and in films they take some memorable position next to the principle characters themselves.

Rajini Films always carried such henchmen. A solo fight with them deceides who is in charge. As usual, these henchmen were more powerful and well equiped than our beloved Hero, but the outcome is naturally the same in each and every case. The Fight for Right contiues, kicking itself forward by defeating these Henchmen in which ever condition possible.

Harichandran
In Veera, Rajini character, as the movie title suggests, fights a local goon who not only operates but governs the neighbourhood. Veera is a passerby, but locks his horms with the macho when Harichandran insults woman, esp. Veera's mother (don't touch there), and that obviously does not go well with Rajini.

Maistri
Siva is a labourer warrior. Maistri ditches the workers by taking a huge percentage of their salary as commision, that leaves them with no other choice but steal the food itself. In a motherly sentiment, Siva cannot indulge in brawls, but when his mother to whom he owes his promise asks him to do the needful, the Right is set through a Fight.

Thalaiva
Muthu is a richman by heart as the title of the film Pannakaran. Even if he does not have materialistic money to aid the needy, he surely has the guts to question the culprits in behalf of the victims. Seeing Rajini standing undisputed, the local goons call in for their Thalaiva who can teach Muthu a lesson or two from the book 'Don't Medle with us". But Muthu hits hard on Thalaiva's smooth skull to nail in the point that its not a lesson, but only a Fight can establish the Right.

Villainous Teams and Groups

Apart from Henchman & Sidekick, the Super Villains usually have a team operating for them to do their dirty work. They are usually his pawns used either to buy time or weaken the Super-Hero. These pawans work in group, and are at the mercy of the Hero himself, who does his laundry with them. They try to put a big fight by organising attack movements between themselves and use mind blowing combat strategies against our Hero, but usually they land up inside the bin.

Rajini encounters many such teams in various interesting suituations. The stunt design brings forward the idea which enhances the output. In several occasions Rajini starts with a verbal challenge and finishes with his fists. Such meeting and chatting with the group of goons were much recurrent in Rajini films, just as it has been enjoyed by everyone (eccentrics excluded) for almost 4 decades now. A pure Cinema Experience.

Dhansika To Play Drug Addict In Rajini Ranjith Movie

As we stated earlier that actress Dhanshika of Paradesi fame, has been roped in the film to play the role of Rajini’s daughter. The movie is directed Ranjith, Attakathi and Madras Fame. Its double confirmed now that the actress has fixed for the role. Additionally, sources reveals that she will be playing drug addicted girl in the movie.
There is some speculation spreading over movie title as Kannabiraan. Either theactor or the director is yet to finalise the title. Another sources say that director Ameer has already registered this tile for his movie.On speaking about Dhanshika role, reports added that Many girls auditioned for the role. Dhansika has got it finally.

Superstar Rajinikanth's next Tamil film is reportedly titled 'Kabali', and loosely based on the real life of a Chennai mafia don.
"In the film, Rajini sir plays a character called Kabaleeshwaran, and the title 'Kabali' is derived from it. The story is based on a don from Mylapore in Chennai," a source from the film unit told IANS.

To be directed by Pa. Ranjith, the film is slated go on floors on September 17.
"The initial few minutes of the film will be set in Mylapore, and then the story will shift to Malaysia," the source said.
Also starring Radhika Apte, Dhansikaa and Kalaiarasan, the film will have music by Santhosh Narayanan. It will be Rajinikanth's 159th film.

Rajinikanth's next film titled 'Kabali'

Superstar Rajinikanth's next Tamil film is reportedly titled 'Kabali', and loosely based on the real life of a Chennai mafia don.
"In the film, Rajini sir plays a character called Kabaleeshwaran, and the title 'Kabali' is derived from it. The story is based on a don from Mylapore in Chennai," a source from the film unit told IANS.

To be directed by Pa. Ranjith, the film is slated go on floors on September 17.

Film industries have seen many superstars, but only some rare gems out of them would elevate to a demigod status. The same day, forty years ago marked the entry of a man who would become the most celebrated demigod. Only the intellectuals and critics use the term ‘demigod’ to denote the level of celebrity status of this man. For a large number of his entire fan fraternity, he is the ‘god’ -born as a man with blood and flesh-who has to be worshipped.
No marks for guessing that we are referring to the one and only evergreen Superstar Rajinikanth. His debut film ‘Apoorva Ragangal’ was released on August 18, 1975 and today the acting career of Rajini has completed four decades.
It may sound like an adage, but it is true that Rajini’s unbelievable growth was not earned overnight. It meant years of toils, insults, rejections and embarrassments and it took phenomenal confidence, perseverance and hard work for this man to become what he is today.
Rajini was introduced to the film industry by director K.Balachander who was at the peak of his career at that moment. But that and the super hit status of his debut film didn’t fetch a flood of offers to Rajini. In his initial days Rajini had to long for offers. He had to travel hundreds of kilometers for an acting chance only to be rejected finding fault with his appearance.
But perseverance paid and Rajini slowly started getting noticed as a villain and character artiste. His Gurunathar KB had trust in him and cast him in many of his films for negative and supportive roles which also drew the attention of his peer directors towards Rajini
When Rajini became a powerful villain/supporting actor ,he slowly transformed as a hero material and his first film as a lead hero was ‘Bhairavi’ which was his 26th release including the films he acted in Telugu and Kannada. The success of the film fetched him more hero offers and at one point of time he became the busiest actor. He acted as hero in 25 films which released in a short span of three years and that marked the emergence of Rajini, the star. The rest is history as they say.
The year 1995 was an important turning point in Rajini’s professional career as it saw the release of blockbuster film ‘Baasha’ which is still revered as his masterpiece by many of his fans and fans of other actors. At the same time Rajini’s voice on Tamil Nadu’s political situation played a role in the state assembly elections held in the following year and that was the point when people especially his fans expected Rajini to enter politics. However Rajini’s political entry remains a dream till date.
After delivering a blockbuster in 2010 with ‘Enthiran’ Rajini suffered a massive health problem which caused a three year hiatus in his acting career. His comeback film ‘Kochadiiyaan’ which was shot with the all new performance capture technology and his last ‘Lingaa’ failed to make wonders at the box office and the latter incurred some bitter experiences for the Superstar from the distributors' side
When his critics started penning stories calling it as the ‘sunset’ of Rajini’s empire, the sexagenarian star hit a master stroke by teaming up with director Ranjith who is one of the highly acclaimed young directors. தமிழ்த் திரையுலகமே திரண்டு வந்து 'கலைத் தாயின் தவப் புதல்வன்' என்று கமலை உச்சி மோந்த அந்த விழாவில் மேடையேறினார் ரஜினி. சூப்பர் ஸ்டார்... 1978-க்கு முன்பு வரை இப்படி ஒரு வார்த்தை இந்திய சினிமாவில் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டதில்லை. உலக சினிமா எதிலும் எந்த பெரிய நடிகருக்கும் இப்படி ஒரு அடைமொழியும் கொடுக்கப்பட்டதுமில்லை. சிலர் தியாகராஜ பாகவதர், ராஜேஷ் கன்னாவையெல்லாம் சொல்லக் கூடும். அவர்களை சூப்பர் ஸ்டார்கள் என அழைக்க ஆரம்பித்ததே தொன்னூறுகளுக்குப் பிறகுதான். அவர்கள் கோலோச்சிய காலங்களில் பாகவதர் ஏழிசை மன்னர் என்றுதான் அழைக்கப்பட்டார். ராஜேஷ் கன்னா இந்தியின் நம்பர் ஒன் நடிகர் என்றே அழைக்கப்பட்டார். இது சினிமா வரலாறு அறிந்தவர்களுக்குத் தெரியும். சினிமா வரலாற்றில் சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்ட முதல் நடிகர் ரஜினிகாந்த். அதுவும் 1975-லிருந்து வில்லனாக, துணை நாயகனாக நடித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தவர், முதல் முறையாக பைரவியில் நாயகனாக நடிக்கிறார். அந்த முதல் படத்திலேயே அவரை சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் என்று பட்டம் சூட்டி அழகு பார்த்தது தமிழ் சினிமா. அந்த சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் திரையுலகில் தடம் பதித்து இன்றோடு நாற்பது ஆண்டுகள் நிறைவடைகின்றன. 1975-ம் ஆண்டு இதே ஆகஸ்ட் 18-ம் தேதிதான் சிவாஜி ராவ் கெய்க்வாட் என்ற 24 வயது இளைஞர், ரஜினிகாந்த் என்ற பெயரில் தமிழ் சினிமாவில் அறிமுகமானார். அந்த வித்தியாசமான உடல் மொழி, வாய் மொழி காரணமாக அவரை தமிழ் ரசிகர்களுக்கு சட்டென்று பிடித்துப் போனது. அடுத்த படம் மூன்று முடிச்சு. அவர்தான் வில்லன் கம் கதாநாயகன். இதெப்டி இருக்கு? என்ற அந்த ஒற்றை பஞ்ச்... தமிழ் திரையுலகையே புரட்டிப் போட்டது. ஆரம்ப நாட்களில் ரஜினி ஒரு மொழியோடு நிற்கவில்லை. தெலுங்கு, கன்னடம் ஆகிய இரு மொழிகளிலும் சமமாகவே நடித்து வந்தார். வெற்றியும் கண்டார். 1977-ல் தமிழ், தெலுங்கு, கன்னடம் ஆகிய மூன்று மொழிகளில் அவர் நடித்தவை 15 படங்கள். 1978-ல் 20 படங்கள். 1979-ல் 13 படங்கள்! மூன்றே ஆண்டுகளில் 43 படங்கள்! இரவு பகல் தூக்கமின்றி, ஒரு நாளைக்கு அதிகபட்சமாக 21 மணி நேரம் நடித்துக் கொண்டே இருந்தார். ஆனால் ஒரு கட்டத்தில் தமிழில் மட்டுமே கவனம் செலுத்த முடிவு செய்தார். எண்பதுகளுக்குப் பிறகு சராசரியாக ஆண்டுக்கு எட்டுப் படங்கள் வரை நடித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தவர், 1983-ல் இந்தியில் அந்தாகானூன் படத்தில் அறிமுகமானார். தொடர்ந்து இந்திப் படங்களில் வெற்றிகரமான தென்னிந்திய ஹீரோவாக வலம் வந்தார். 1987-க்குப் பிறகு ஆண்டுக்கு நான்கைந்து படங்களாகக் குறைத்துக் கொண்டார். 1990-லிருந்து ஆண்டுக்கு மூன்று படங்களாகக் குறைத்தவர், 1993-க்குப் பிறகு ஆண்டுக்கு ஒரு படம் என்று அறிவித்தேவிட்டார். 2000- ஆண்டுக்குப் பிறகு இந்தியில் நடிப்பதை நிறுத்திக் கொண்டார் (புலந்தி) ரஜினி. தமிழில் அவர் நடிக்கும் படங்களே தெலுங்கு, இந்தியில் ரீமேக் ஆகி பெரும் வெற்றி பெற்றன. அந்த வகையில் சிவாஜி த பாஸ் பெரும் சாதனைப் படைத்தது வட மாநிலங்களில். கிபி 2000 தொடங்கி இந்த 2015 வரையிலான பதினைந்து ஆண்டுகளில் ரஜினி வெறும் 7 படங்களில் மட்டும்தான் நடித்திருக்கிறார். பாபா, சந்திரமுகி, சிவாஜி த பாஸ், குசேலன், எந்திரன், கோச்சடையான், லிங்கா என ஏழு படங்கள்தான். ஆனால் இந்தப் படங்கள்தான் இந்திய சினிமாவின் வர்த்தகத்தை உலகளவிய எல்லைக்குள் இட்டுச் சென்றன. இலங்கை, மலேசியா, சிங்கப்பூரைத் தாண்டாத இந்திய சினிமாக்கள் இன்று ஆப்பிரிக்கா, ஆஸ்திரேலியா, நியூஸிலாந்து, வட தென் அமெரிக்க கண்டங்கள், ஐரோப்பா, சீனா என வலம் வரக் காரணம், ரஜினியின் பாட்ஷாவும், முத்துவும் படையப்பாவும், சந்திரமுகியும், சிவாஜியும்தான். தமிழ் சினிமாவைப் பொருத்தவரை ரஜினியின் எந்திரன், சிவாஜி, லிங்கா வசூல்தான் இன்றும் வெளிநாட்டு பாக்ஸ் ஆபீசில் முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளன. வெற்றிப் படங்கள் என்பதைத் தாண்டி, சினிமாவில் ரஜினி ஏற்படுத்திய தாக்கங்கள் ஏராளமானவை. ஒரு கூலித் தொழிலாளி, முன்னாள் பஸ் கண்டக்டர், சினிமாவுக்கான அழகியல் ஏதுமற்ற மனிதன் கூட மிகப் பெரிய சூப்பர் ஸ்டாராக முடியும் என்ற நம்பிக்கையை விதைத்தவர் ரஜினி. வயது வித்தியாசம் தாண்டி அனைத்து மட்டங்களிலும் தனக்கான ரசிகர்களை உருவாக்கிக் கொண்டது ரஜினி செய்த இன்னொரு மாயாஜாலம். அதற்கு காரணம், சினிமாவின் போக்கை உணர்ந்து அதற்கேற்ப தன்னை அப்டேட் செய்து கொள்ளும் அவரது தன்மை. இன்றைய சினிமா ஹீரோக்கள் யாராக இருந்தாலும், அவர்களிடம் நிச்சயம் ரஜினியின் தாக்கம் இருக்கும். இன்று முன்னணி ஹீரோக்களாக உள்ள அஜீத்தும் விஜய்யும் தங்களை ரஜினியின் ரசிகர்களாக முன்னிறுத்தி வந்தவர்கள்தான். பலருக்கும் தெரியாத ஒரு உண்மை... விஜயகாந்தே ரஜினியின் ரசிகர் மன்ற செயலாளராக இருந்து, விஜயராஜ் என்ற தன் பெயரை விஜயகாந்த் என்று மாற்றிக் கொண்டு திரைக்கு வந்தவர்தான். இந்த நாற்பது ஆண்டுகளில் 37 ஆண்டுகள் ரஜினிகாந்த் அசைக்க முடியாத ஒரு சூப்பர் ஸ்டாராகவே வலம் வந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார். தமிழ் சினிமா பாக்ஸ் ஆபீஸில் எத்தனையோ ஹீரோக்கள் ஏற்ற இறக்கங்கள் கண்டாலும், இவர் மட்டும் அதே முதலிடத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கிறார். ரஜினி தோல்வியே கண்டதில்லையா? கண்டிருக்கிறார். ஆனால் தமிழ் சினிமா தயாரிப்பாளர் சங்கத் தலைவரான தாணு அந்த தோல்வி குறித்து என்ன சொல்கிறார் தெரியுமா? Documentary on Rajnikanth fans to premiere at Venice Film festival

A documentary on fandom of superstar Rajnikanth by an Indian-American professor from University of Michigan would be premiered at the Venice Film Festival, the university said on Friday. The documentary, "For The Love of a Man," produced by University of Michigan professor Joyojeet Pal and directed by Rinku Kalsy, a filmmaker in Amsterdam, will be premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September. Pal's belief in the film goes beyond time and research. He has invested his life's savings in the film that follows the fans of 64-year-old Rajnikanth, who has been in more than 600 movies.

"The documentary shows us that there is no one way to be a fan. It is a look at the lives of real people to explore why they do what they do," said Pal, the primary researcher for the film.

According to the university, the documentary won some early awards in India when Pal and Kalsy screened some portions for funding. In addition, Pal raised about USD7,000 on the Indian crowdsourcing website Wishberry last year -- funds that helped him finish the film editing.

"I've enjoyed making this film..I love telling stories about aspirations of people in contemporary India. It is the thread that ties all my work together, whether it is a research paper or a documentary," Pal said. After all the hard work, Pal said a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival feels great.

"I would like to get a theatrical release for the film," he said. I want it to be accessible to everyone," he said.

Rajnikanth has acted across various film industries such as Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, and English.

Fans of Rajinikanth-Shankar combo might not have to wait longer as the much-hyped sequel to their 2010 hit Enthiran is set to go on floors by the end of this year. The film's writer B Jeyamohan shares that the pre-production of the film is going on in full swing. "I have finished the scripting part and now we have moved on to the next level," says the scribe, who had last scripted the Kamal Haasan-starrer Papanasam.

About the plot of the film, he only hints the obvious that "it would be a continuation of the first movie." The writer though tells us that plans are in place for to start filming once Rajinikanth finishes the shooting of Pa Ranjith's Kabali. "The movie will go on floors by this year end," he says.

Earlier it was rumoured that Vikram was part of the film's cast but Jeyamohan says, "Only Thalaivar is confirmed. We are yet to begin the casting for the rest of the actors."

The speculation over who will star opposite Rajinikanth in Enthiran 2 have been rife since a long time.

According to latest reports, director Shankar has approached Katrina Kaif for the role, but there hasn't been an official announcement yet.

Katrina was also the original choice for Rajinikanth's 3D motion-capture film Kochdaiiyaan, before it was offered to Deepika Padukone.

Earlier, there were rumors that Aamir Khan would play the antagonist in the film, but even that fizzled out.

Shankar’s preference for working with top Bollywood actors is well known.

Manisha Koirala was part of his earlier films Indian and Mudhalvan, while Aishwarya Rai played the female lead in Jeans and Enthiran and Amy Jackson was roped in for Shankar's magnum opus I, which released earlier this year.

With pre-production work on in full swing, announcements are likely to be made soon.

So will it be the gorgeous Katrina opposite Superstar Rajinikanth in this mega Rs 300 crore project that is expected to be bigger than the spectacular epic Bahubali?

As far as I concerned, Kabali is more exciting than enthiran - 2. Given his age, I don't think it's of paramount necessity to do a movie as big as enthiran. If Rajini wants to have some content for international audience with commercial value, he can consider doing some genres like spy thrillers, crime thrillers etc., Still I don't think, Rajini+ Shankar combo is a big hit among audience(not about the BO but with regard to the satisfaction) unlike Rajini+KSR or Rajini+ Suresh Krishna.

I think Shankar is also comfortable working with Rajini for some reason. They seem to have a good understanding. It is quite possible, Vikram is given a equally good role like Mammootty role in Dhalapathy. :)

If all goes well, Ashok Kheny is set to realise his long-cherished dream of making a film on Tipu Sultan. Kheny, who made successful film Prasad with Arjun Sarja and Madhuri Bhattacharya, has been trying his best to realise his dream but it is being postponed by one or the other reasons. However, Kheny is determined to continue the efforts to realise his dream project.

Speaking with Iamin at a promotional programme of his latest film Neene Bari Neene, Kheny said that he had approached Rajinikanth for the lead role but unfortunately the actor was not keeping well at that time. “I want to continue my efforts. I will meet Rajinikanth to discuss about this historical project that will bring name and fame for Karnataka. I came to know that it was Tipu Sultan who donated ships to George Washington. How nice it would be if we made a film on this subject and how good it would be to bring name and fame for Karnataka,’’ says Kheny.

When asked about the preparations for the launching of his dream project, Kheny said: “Preparations are being made. I am waiting for an opportunity to meet Rajinikanth and discuss about the project in detail’’.

Coming to his latest film Neene Bari Neene, Kheny said the film is full of romance. “I will be 66 by October (next month) but I feel 16 when I hear songs of Neene Bari Neene. It will be a different from other Kannada films that give more importance to violence,’’ he said.

Neene Bari Neene was directed by Deepak Thimmaiah while Anish, Deepika Kamaiah, Samyukta Hornad, Sathya, Varun are the important star cast. Mano Murthy composed music for this film.

Reacting strongly to media reports that Rajinikanth may star in a biopic on Tipu Sultan, Hindu Munani leader Rama Gopalan has urged the superstar to not to take up the project.

Bengaluru-based entrepreneur-producer Ashok Kheny reportedly wants to make a biopic of Tipu Sultan with the 64-year-old southern superstar.

Days after a leading Kannada producer said he planned to make a movie on Tipu Sultan and rope in Tamil actor Rajinikanth to star in, the BJP and hardline outfits in Tamil Nadu warned the actor against accepting the offer.

Calling Tipu Sultan, the 18th century ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore, anti-Tamil, some hardline groups said Tamil actors should avoid accepting any role in the movie.

Senior BJP leader L Ganesan told The Sunday Express that Rajinikanth should not act in the movie. “He (Rajinikanth) is my very good friend. I am sure he will not take up the role portraying Tipu Sultan as a hero. Tipu was an aggressor, who committed maximum atrocities against Hindus. Rajinikanth will never take up a role to portray such a character,” said Ganesan. “Knowing the history, how can I be silent when there are attempts to glorify foreigners who invaded us and our culture,” he added.

Ramagopalan, leader of Hindu Munnani — an outfit with a history of protesting against movies — was the first to demand that Rajinikanth reject the project. Ramagopalan claimed that Tipu Sultan had attacked Tamils during his rule and a film about him would be an insult to Tamils. He also quoted certain portions from the autobiography of former chief minister M G Ramachandran, where he talks about how Tipu Sultan’s attacks had forced his ancestors to shift from Coimbatore to Palakkad.

Hindu Makkal Katchi, another outfit with a sizeable cadre base across the state, also joined the protest Saturday and said it would not allow screening of the movie. “Tipu Sultan was the leader who robbed this country. Rajinikanth is a person who portrays himself as a spiritual leader… Such a person should not be acting in a Tipu Sultan movie,” said Senthil Kumar, state secretary of the Hindu Makkal Katchi.

Sources close to Rajinikanth said he has not taken a decision on the project.

Kannada producer Ashok Kheny, who is planning to make the movie, said people were objecting just for publicity.

“We have not even started the project. During a function last week, I was asked about this plan, which I had in my mind earlier, and my reply to that question has now created a controversy. It is my dream project. A few years ago, I discussed this idea with Rajinikanth and he asked me to go ahead with the story and the script. He never agreed but he was interested in the story. He said it was a good idea. It was Tipu who fought British along with Hindu rulers. It was Tipu who opened trade routes to Persia and several other countries. He had even approached the American rulers to defeat British. What is in my mind is a large-scale movie that would show history, like the movie on the life of Gandhi,” he said.

On threats from Hindu outfits, he said, “Elephants walk and dogs bark.” “There was a Vishnu temple at Tipu’s fort and history says he used to go and pray there. If he was anti-Hindu, why would he keep a temple inside his fort and pray there?” he added.***

Controversy erupts over superstar Rajinikanth's proposed film on Tipu Sultan

Chennai: The BJP and political outfits in Tamil Nadu have warned the actor against accepting the offer from leading Kannada producer Ashok Kheny to play the lead role.

The BJP calls the 18th century ruler anti-Tamil. Rajinikanth is yet to decide on the project, but the director has strongly defended the move.

During an exclusive interaction with CNN IBN, producer Ashok Kheny was asked if he had approached superstar Rajnikanth for a film on Tipu Sultan.

“I talked to Rajinikanth before he fell sick. So we discussed various issues including which films to do. And one of the subjects that we looked at was Shivaji, and various other films. And then realized that all the films that we talked about were historical and had a conflict between Hindus and Muslims. It was either Muslim king fighting against Hindu king or Hindu king fighting against Muslim king. Then we came across Tipu and we realized that he was the only king with whom Hindus and Muslim supported to fight a foreign king. Then we thought what an idea to make a film on Tipu and no better to star other than Rajinikanth,” he said.

BJP national secretary H Raja too raised concerns about Rajinikanth’s Tipu Sultan film. “Tipu Sultan was a tyrant, a murderer... So if someone is making a film showing Tipu as a hero then it is distortion of history,” he said.

When CNN-IBN spoke to Rajiniknth’s publicist he said the star is completely immersed in shooting his upcoming film 'Kabali' and he has had no chance to look at the script because the filmmaker is yet to write the script.

Rinku Kalsy’s documentary ‘For The Love of a Man’ shifts the attention from the movies starring the Tamil superstar to his numerous fans.

Rajinikanth is among the few movie icons who has been able to take his fans along with him on his singular journey from playing villains in the 1970s to becoming a supernova whose characters are the very epitome of virtue, honour and resourcefulness. As the documentary For the Love of a Man proves, the Tamil cinema icon is now at the phase of superstardom where his admirers make as much news as he does. The release of every new Rajinikanth movie is a semi-religious occasion: posters and cut-outs are propitiated with milk and prayers, the cinemas resemble prayer halls, and the ticket buyers behave as though they are witnessing a miracle.

Rajinikanth’s perceived grip over the hearts and minds of viewers is thought to be so complete that Tamil Nadu’s Bharatiya Janata Party unit and other Hindutva organisations have issued him a stern warning against signing up for a proposed biopic on Tipu Sultan. Hindutva votaries regard the former ruler of Mysore as anti-Hindu.

For The Love of a Man was premiered at the recently concluded Venice Film Festival. Produced by Joyojeet Pal and directed by Rinku Kalsy, the film examines the cult that has come up around Rajinikanth through the worshipful gaze of his mostly male devotees. It discovers the intimate love that the actor generates in his admirers and their tendency to relate their own lives to his own. The film also attempts to place Rajinikanth within the context of Dravidian politics in Tamil Nadu, whose early tenets included a critique of organised religion. As one commentator points out to the filmmakers, nowhere has it been said by Dravidian leaders that a human being cannot be worshipped. Excerpts from an interview with Kalsy.

The fanaticism of Rajinikanth’s followers is a well-documented phenomenon in India. Why did you feel that the subject lent itself to a documentary?
The idea for the project came from Joyojeet.

Joyojeet was working with Microsoft Research in Coimbatore district on a project to increase children’s access to computers. He discovered that Rajinikanth’s role as a software engineer in Sivaji had an unintended benefit – many more rural kids in Tamil Nadu were now keen on a career in computer science. This made us think about the strength of Rajinikanth’s influence throughout the state and the various ways in which he appealed to people across ages.
Perhaps elements of the phenomenon are well documented, such as the connection between Dravidian politics and fanclubs, but that rests either in academic circles, or at the very least primarily in the South. There are elements of it – such as the connection with devotional ritual, with social aspiration, that are not understood.

We felt that the film has to be understood within a larger context of the diversity of fans in age groups, and how for instance technology is changing fandom – we see for instance lifelong fans who feel they are being made irrelevant by Facebook since that is now a means of marketing, rather than the frenzy outside a theatre.

Were the Rajinikanth fan clubs enthusiastic about appearing in a film about their icon?
Yes, the starting point was N Ravi, the sweet shop owner and guy who arranged a climb up 1,300 steps of Sholingur temple to pray for Enthiran. The fans were generally enthusiastic, in part there is a certain performativity to being a fan, so being in front of a camera was not unusual to them, it’s a continuation of what many of them already do for the releases. Perhaps the most complicated part was asking people to reflect on what they do. In a sense it is like religion, it’s hard to ask someone to be reflective of why they love God, who that figure is to them in their lives, or why they do what they do.

On what basis were the Rajinikanth fans shortlisted?
The first two characters, the brothers in Sholingur, were the ones we selected first because of the climb and because they’ve been doing similar stuff for years, including the massive birthday celebrations. The other characters selected were picked based on either elements in their story that were interesting – such as the impact of fandom on their families (the peanut seller), a range in generation (the older auto-drivers and the younger Facebook group kids), visual elements of fandom (the mimics).

The film doesn’t delve into Rajinikanth’s history as an actor, nor are there interviews with the directors, especially the dialogue writers who have significantly contributed to his screen image.
We realised early that Rajnikanth as a phenomenon is an entirely separate movie unto itself, and if we went into that, the fans themselves would be reduced to an afterthought rather than be at the centre of the film.

Like with other mass heroes such as Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan, there are unsavoury aspects to Rajinikanth’s image, such as a regressive attitude towards female characters. His followers appear to be mostly men. How you dealt with this issue?
This definitely came up – because we were three women in the crew, and the fans, often in mob situations, were mostly men. So initially we had real concerns about safety and the gendered elements of our being there. But we never faced any uncomfortable situation during the shoot.

The taming of women arguably goes beyond Rajni films – if you think about it, Indian films have a warning when someone smokes a cigarette, but nothing when someone disrespects or abuses a woman, and it’s an inability to go beyond a patriarchal way of pitching to an audience which at the theatre level has largely been male.
But even that is changing from an economic perspective, since the theatre audience is turning into a co-ed space more and more as we have a urban multiplex culture becoming more economically valuable than the single theatre (and largely male) being the main driver of a film’s economics.
