Any concrete information on release dates?
Viswa 2 shooting over. UV - shooting over. Papanasam - 85% over (by seeing the stills and news).
Now 1.5 years waiting. If I reply on promotions, it does not look like this year we will see any of the 3 movies mentioned above.
Watching varumayin niram sivappu today.. no choice :)

Kamal's fan club kickstarts Clean Campaign

With the PM of India launching the Clean India Campaign, the list of celebrities he has nominated for his drive also has our very own Ulaganayagan in it. As the actor released a video on social media accepting his invitation, the fan club of Kamal Hassan 'All India Kamal Hassan Narpani Iyakkam' has already kickstarted work for this campaign. The first segment of the drive will start at Tuticorn with a free Medical Camp and is being spearheaded by Dr.Raghupathy a senior cardiologist. The activity will start by 9:00am on October 5th and will have quite a number of Volunteers from the Narpani Iyakkam. Apart from Kamal Hassan, the PM of India has also invited Salman Khan, Sachin Tendulkar to be a part of this clean India drive.

Viswa 2 - we all know that it can be released after the release of "I" only. No confirmed release.

Uttama Villain - 90% can be released any time after Deepavali since Eros has bought the film.

Papanasam - Since the producers cannot wait for long, it may be released any time after Uttama Villain.

Avam is an upcoming film that has many newcomers on board. Vijay Vilvakrish directs and acts in this film along with Karthik Vilvakrish and Gaurav. Music is scored by Sundaramoorthy, cinematography is by Kugan Palani and VJ Productions is bankrolling this venture.

Madhan Karky who is the lyricist of the film recently updated in his social blogger that Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan has crooned his lines Kaarirulae in the film and is quite excited about it.

He says, “Had a super recording session with Kamal sir. A song for #Avam directed by Vijay and music by Sundaramurthy. An unforgettable experience to watch and hear Kamal sir breathe life into my lyrics”.

He further says, “Kamal sir’s voice for #Kaarirulae, a song on a guilt feeling, will be the highlight of #Avam”. That sure is awesome!

Sigappu Rojakkal 2 is on the way

Few decades ago, a movie that made people rethink the metaphorical meaning of a 'Red Rose' and gave it an antagonistic view was Sigappu Rojakkal. While one typically relates red rose to romance, fun and exoticism, this movie was all about deadly, eerie and uncanny visuals. This was one of the legendary thrillers in Tamil cinema.

The movie was already remade back in 1980 in Hindi starring Rajesh Khanna. Now, sources say that Sigappu Rogakkal is all set for its part two. While the first part had the legendary music composer Ilaiyaraja's background score, the sequel is said to feature G V Prakash as the music director. Talks are still on to decide the director of the movie. It is said that it could be Bharathiraja himself or his son Manoj Bharathiraja.

Will the title be the same? Are there going to be more than two songs? We have to wait for more updates in the coming days.

ஒரே சமயத்தில் கமல்ஹாசன் மூன்று படங்களில் நடித்து முடிக்கப் போகிறார். 'விஸ்வரூபம் 2' படத்தின் படப்பிடிப்பு ஏறக்குறைய முழுவதுமாக முடிந்து விட்ட நிலையில் இன்னும் ஒரு சில காட்சிகள் மட்டுமே படமாக்கப்பட வேண்டுமாம். சில மாதங்களுக்கு முன்பே இப்படம் முடிவடைந்து வெளிவரும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கப்பட்டது. ஆனால், தயாரிப்பாளருக்கும் கமல்ஹாசனுக்கும் இடையே பிரச்சனை எழுந்ததால் படப்பிடிப்பு பாதிக்கப்பட்டது.

விஸ்வரூபம் 2 முடிவுறும் நிலையில் உள்ளது. உத்தம வில்லனும் தயார். 2014 -இல் இரண்டு படங்கள் பார்க்கலாம் என்று நினைத்த கமல் ரசிகர்களுக்கு பெருத்த ஏமாற்றம் காத்திருக்கிறது.

இரண்டில் ஒரு படம்கூட இந்த வருடம் வெளியாகப் போவதில்லையாம்.

விஸ்வரூபம் 2 -க்கு முன்னால் உத்தம வில்லன் வெளியாகும் என அதிகாரப்பூர்வமா அறிவித்திருந்தனர். அக்டோபர் 2 என தேதியும் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தனர். பிறகு அது நவம்பர் 7 கமலின் பிறந்த நாளுக்கு தள்ளிப் போனது. ஆனால் அன்றும் படம் திரைக்கு வரப்போவதில்லை.

சமீபத்தில் நமக்குக் கிடைத்த தகவல், உத்தம வில்லன் 2015 -இல்தான் வெளியாகும். அது ஜனவரியா இல்லை பெப்ரவரியா என்று தெரியவில்லை.

இவ்விரு படங்களும் வெளியான பிறகே பாபநாசம் வெளியாக உள்ளது.

Chennai, Oct 16: Tamil actor Kamal Haasan has been admitted to a hospital in Kanyakumari as he received severe nose injury during a shooting for his upcoming film Pabanasam. The actor's nose was bruised when he was shooting for a fighting scene. According to sources, Kamal Haasan, who acted many Bollywood movies as well, will play the role of villain in the movie.Recently, he was discharged from a hospital in Chennai. The Tamil superstar was under treatment in Apollo Hospital with symptoms of food poisoning.It was initially reported that the 59-year-old actor was suffering from any neurological ailments. However, his close aides had dismissed all reports terming them "rumours". However, neither his family members not doctors disclosed the real reason of his ailment

Kamal Haasan denies rumours

There are a lot of rumours doing the rounds claiming that our 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan was injured yesterday while shooting a stunt sequence for Papanasam. But the 'Sakalakala Vallavan' actor has come out in the open and brushed off rumours about his injury.

Mr. Haasan quoted "Before various new ailments are endowed upon me, I hasten to clarify that all is well. It is not true that I was injured while shooting. It was a make-up rubber prosthetic that slipped into my nasal passage and had to be carefully removed under medical supervision. It was a stunt scene so I had simulated injuries on the face. A visit to the hospital with a bruised face led to the interpolated news. I am alright".

When 'tsunami' struck the east coast of our country and many people lost their lives in 2004, there was surprise among the people that Kamal Haasan had mentioned the word 'tsunami' in his movie 'Anbesivam' (2003), when it wasn't known to many people. The world is talking about the Ebola virus now, but the star actor has once again made heads turn, as he had mentioned about in his film 'Dasavatharam' in 2008.

In the scene where he tries to get back the parcel which contains the bio weapon, Kamal says "It's a synthetic bio weapon, It's a Ebola -Marburg combination. It's very lethal."

Other occasion when the star had mentioned something or portrayed in his films before it happened include the riot scene in 'Hey Ram' in 2000, which was followed by the Gujarat riots 2 years later. A spirit of friendliness that seems to be prevalent for years continues now indeed. The bonding between Kamal Haasan and Malayalam film industry is so much colossal as Ulaga Nayagan always keeps thanking the industry for exploring his potentials during initial stages of his career. Moreover, friendship with Mohanlal has spread over the span of many years. Today, the actor was present at Kochi keeping aside his busy schedules to launch the travelogue book titled ‘Mohanlalinte Yathrakal’ authored by Lalettan. The 200-page book is a compilation of articles and pictures by Mohanlal of the places he has visited so far that costs Rs. 2000/-.

Kamal released the book and the first copy was received by famous writer N.S. Madhavan. Famous personalities from film industry including Innocent, directors Priyadarshan, Ranjith, T.K.Rajeev Kumar, Renji Panikkar, Major Ravi, Jeethu Joseph and many others were present for the occasion.

Kamal fans are a diverse lot .. Some like his usual masala movies while some simply love his classics. I have absolutely no issues either way .. of course there're a few mokka movies though. When it comes to remakes, Kamal himself decides based on the original if its worth his time to do a remake. I've for the most part enjoyed most of his remakes. I'd say let him be diverse as well like his fans.

Big difference .. Vijay fans lap up pretty much everything Vijay provides and his BO success depends on the rest. But Kamal fans have no hesitation in rejecting his below average movies. So even if Kamal decides to do a commercial movie, his fan base must be satisfied let alone others.

Well...you are correct. Movies like Vishwaroopam takes enormous amount of research compared to others but just like what others here say, we can agree that he can also try to connect more with his core thamizh audience. The problem is he is forced to walk a delicate balance - it has to be entertaining (not the Faraday shield/Ceasium/butterfly effect type but more traditional masala) but also stand out and be different and compatible with his ideas. But of late, he has also been weighed down by more loftier ambitions - appealing across to the bollywood audience and may be even international while at the same time trying to balance his core audience and make business sense. Hence you see some scenes that fall into traditional masala type - like the transformation scene within a very rational, radical, international theme - a South Asian tackling an international menace whose epicenter is in South Asia (Afghanistan). The net result is certainly a movie that is a novelty, which is one of the reasons the movie was a huge hit. But at the same time, it does not fully satisfy his core base - like the way his older hits like 16 Vayathinilae, Nayagan, Apporva..., Devar Magar, Moonram Pirai etc.

IMHO, it is a function of time and results friend.
Manmadan Ambu - Is it a classic? It was supposed to be "commercial". In that case when younger directors (e.g. Murugadoss) are waiting for him, he should not do "semi-commercial".
What I mean by lowering the standard is - how to explain... he acts in a commercial movie, but with restrictions that he will not do a kuthu song, will not say mass dialogues etc etc because those are too commercialised, results also will be not great.
I am not saying Nammvar should do that. But if commercial movie is done, go for it completely.
If projected as a no-brainer movie, there will not be any false expectations.
Another example is Papanasam - it is taking more time than the original - I wonder why !!!
If Pooja to release happens in 2 months similar to Drishyam, it is still ok.
I hope Uttama villain will be great - not a light comedy movie as being projected by some media.

Sorry - nothing against Vijay. I just took up an example.
I was an active member in one fans association. Let us do not think that all this huge fan base was made because of Nayakans and Swathimuthyams :-)

VetriVizha - 2nd day - 3rd time viewing - I forcefully took one of my friends who hardly watch Tamil movies.
This movie - dances and fights - made him a big fan of Nammavar.
Ran 28 days at my place. Watched 7 times or so from theatre. Mappilai which released along with this ran 21 days.

Soora Samharam and Sattam were both flops. They were both really bad movies. SS at least had a nice first half. Till the scene were Kamal gets drugged and sent back home, the movie was quite different. From there, it turned worse. Especially "Vedhaalam Vandhu nikkudhu" song.
Sattam was Mattam(Comment in Ananda Vikadan review) from beginning to end.

Drohkaal directed by Govind Nihalani was Ashish Vidyarthi's first movie. Om Puri played Kamal's role, Naseeruddin Shah played Arjun's and Ashish did the villain's role which was done by Nazar in Tamil. It was critically acclaimed but did very poor business. With a star cast like this it was dissed an art movie. Kamal apparently was interested in the script and bought the rights from Govind Nihalani to make it in Tamil. He was sure of making a successful movie without any songs, comedy track or duets, debut MD, many unknown faces, Telugu lip-sync(It was made in Telugu and Tamil). It was released along with Muthu on Diwali 2006. Muthu directed by K.S.Ravikumar(fresh after the success of Naattaamai) had Rajinikanth in two roles, Meena who was the top heroine of those days, A.R.Rahman whose songs were already chartbusters, several supporting actors including Raghuvaran, Radharavi, Ponnambalam, Vadivelu, Senthil and others - a complete masala movie.

Still Kuruthippunal gave a tough fight & managed to open very well in all centers. It ran for more than 100 days in many theatres. I watched it on the 3rd day in AVM by paying Rs.150 for a Rs.25 ticket. In a suburban theatre like Tambaram (not sure if it was Vetri or Rakesh; Muthu ran in Vidhya), KP ran for 80 days. For the first three weeks, it shared the No.1 spot with Muthu in Sun TV's Top 10. In the fourth week, it went to No.2 and slowly came down. Muthu was in No.1 for few more weeks & obviously had a better run. But KP which probably was made in less than 1/2 of Muthu's budget was a Super-hit. KP's Telugu version Drohi was an even bigger hit.

Its good to know Kurudhipunal ran well .... I was not sure how much of a hit it was considering that it did not have the ingredients of regular hit movie (songs/romance/action etc.). As we know, Kamal fans applauding or appreciating a movie whole hardheartedly vs. box office success are two different things .. Many such movies have fallen on the wayside. Ofcourse a few years later, public will say 'pa adhu arumaiyana padam' like what they talk about Anbe Sivam today .. but the movie flopped then! For Kurudhipunal to achieve a decent run is pretty impressive considering the challenges it had esp. from SS.

Exactly. For the younger generation, if a movie's songs are not too popular then its a flop. Since KP was without songs, people don't see it often in TV and many even wouldn't have heard of it.

Between '94 and '96 Raj Kamal International had three consecutive hits - Sathi Leelavathi(released with Baasha), Magalir Mattum and Kuruthippunal. Kamal held a function to celebrate the hat-trick hits. Indhian and Avvai Shanmughi released during the same period but they weren't produced by Kamal.

- Directed by Journalist-turned-PRO-turned-Director-turned-Supporting Actor. Now known as Mongoose Mandaiyan - Chithra Lakshmanan
- Kamal is called Pandian in some scenes, AdhiVeeraPandian in some scenes, AdhiVeeraRamaPandian in one scene.
- In some scenes he appears with orginal murukku meesai. Ottumeesai in most of the 2nd half. The scene where his face is shown on the TV, he looks awesome.
- Two excellent songs - Naan Enbadhu and Neela Kuyile both sung by Arun Mozhi and one by Mano - Vedhaalam.
- Nirosha, the heroine is introduced as Mythili in the titles. Not sure if this was before or after Agni Natchathiram.
- Somehow KH's chemistry isn't all that good with Nirosha, though there are some romantic scenes, steamy enough to keep family audiences away.
- Kitty(aka Raja Krishnamurthy, Ex-Vice President, Polaris Software) who did remarkably well as a smooth-talking corrupt minister in Sathya plays a hardcore villain. Not too impressive. 10 minutes into the movie, the villain's identity is revealed.
- Madhuri as his sister doesn't suit the role and Janakaraj is wasted.
- There are some really good stunt scenes. In one such scene, KH uses the 'T' word for the 2nd time(First time was in Vikram). I think the one in the receiving end was Ponnambalam.
- The first 15-20 mins & the scene where KH is drugged, beaten and the consequences are good. Till then the movie moves quite fast with an engaging screenplay but slips badly post-interval.

Prathap Pothen's biggest hit as a director. In terms of quality it can't come close to the other movies in your list. The movie still had many interesting elements like well choreographed stunts, songs. Kamal's costumes were too good.

Hmm yeah. He did that quite often in 80s when the movie going public didn't care about it much. I hope it isn't too obvious in Papanaasam.

And about KH's cop roles, he has a pretty good success rate - OKD, Ab.Sago, VV1, VV2, Khakhi Chattai,KP, Vikram(good business in B&C). One more average grosser which comes to my mind is Andha Oru Nimidam. I thought it did not do well till I saw the director/producer/villain Major Sundarrajan's interview in Jaya TV about ten years back.

Kamal Haasan turns 60 this Friday. And in this chat with Sudhir Srinivasan, he takes stock of a career that has spanned almost all facets of films

Sixty. Does it seem like a milestone that forces you to look back at the journey you’ve taken?
Well, it’s definitely no surprise that I am turning 60. The fact that I’ve lived this long is not really an achievement. Time passes, we age… it’s natural. This is why it annoys me when a person watches a movie and tells me that it was ‘time pass’. Would time not have passed if he hadn’t watched the film? But yes, I do throw glances at what I’ve done; I take stock of my inventory, so to speak. I think I’ve managed to retain my honesty, and while I don’t agree that it’s a great policy as the adage goes, I believe that it’s a luxury that only few people can afford.

On your birthday, you’re encouraging your fan club to clean a lake in Taramani.
There are civic issues that bother me. My road (Eldam’s Road), for example, has been laid and relaid over and over again. As a boy who looked out of the window at this road, I can, with confidence, tell you that the road has ascended several feet. Why is the road not scraped before a new one is laid? I’m talking about these issues, as Swachh Bharat seems to be quite the trend now.

Some people believe that for change to occur, the people who seek it must participate in governance. With your fan base, politics must seem an interesting prospect.
Would I get into politics? I’ll just say what I tell people when they ask me this. Pray that everyday citizens like me aren’t pushed to that corner. I’m happy doing my bit in the background with my supporters. We have been doing useful work for 30 years.

In fact, one of the most memorable photographs of my life was one in which a member of my ‘narpani iyakkam’ stood waist-deep in a sink hole to clean drainage. He did that, expecting nothing in return.

Is it scary that there are admirers who’re willing to do anything?
Yes. That’s why I changed the fan club to a ‘narpani iyakkam’. In fact, when the late MGR asked me if I was interested in politics, I asked him instead for suggestions on how to make my group apolitical.

You wrote both Vishwaroopam 2 and Uttama Villain. In an interview, you have said you’re grateful that filmmakers like R. C. Sakthi encouraged you to write.
Yes! I wish I could be equally encouraging of Shruti (Shruti Haasan). I think she writes a lot better than I do. Perhaps she will read this interview and get motivated to write more.

What else do you write?
I write the occasional poem. I think my dabbling in poetry makes me better at screenplays. Poetry teaches the value of condensing, the importance of talking in a few words. So, yes, I do write poetry even though I’m asked not to publish them.

Too controversial?
I wrote one ten years back about the onset of gay marriages. So, you can imagine.

Despite your confessed reluctance to act, you chose to do so.
People keep saying Balachander discovered me. I differ. He invented me. When a stalwart like him suggests that I act in films, who am I to refuse?

What do you make of the kind of films you’re working on today?
Well, it’s clear that I’m scared and I’m playing the market. I’m not as free as an art filmmaker and that’s fine because I want to take people towards that destination eventually. The journey is more important, and when I die, I want to do so knowing that I’ve led some people forward. That said, I’d really like to make a film like Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life. Before all that, let me make the usual films without the fear of them being banned.

From Virumaandi to Vishwaroopam, your films have met with quite some backlash, haven’t they?
Being offended is one thing, breaking glass is another. If somebody misrepresented a reality I relate to, I’d probably be offended by it, but I wouldn’t resort to violence or fundamentalist measures.

Going back to writing, I see that many directors prefer to do the writing themselves. Why’s this?
I had a conversation with Karunanidhi once, when he asked me why I was keeping him waiting for so long before each release. I told him, “Ezhudha therinjavanga illa sir.” He replied, “Therinju ezhudharavan illanu sollunga.” I don’t think we have enough trained screenwriters here.

Surely, there are Tamil novelists who can step in?
I was responsible for bringing in people like the late Sujatha into the industry. However, most writers are sceptical of film people, I think. It’s just a different medium.

A progressive film like Aval Appadithan was made in 1978. Do you believe we have grown since then?
We have regressed really. I’m not sure what is causing this decline. It’s perhaps the mass influx of untrained people into the industry because of the success of filmmakers like Bharathiraja and Ilaiyaraaja. Aval Appadithan was a guerilla attack on the industry by insiders like me. It slipped through their fingers, so to speak. With all the attention that films get these days, I doubt we can get away with such a film any more.

People think Bharathiraja and Ilaiyaraaja just came from their villages and became legends here. They don’t know the training and hard work they had to put in to get where they are today. When we were making Raja Paarvai, Ilaiyaraaja would often request to be excused in the evening. I initially thought he probably wanted some sleep. Later, I came to know that he was taking classes in classical music in the evenings. It is such dedication to learning that gets you to the top.

So, you believe that the regression is caused mainly by untrained filmmakers?
Sure. When I met the late director Balu Mahendra, I was encouraged by his education at the Pune Film Institute. I asked him if I should join too, and he said I should. However, I learned then that high school dropouts like myself would not be allowed to train there. But at least, during the days that I stepped into films, we had the excuse of not having any training centres in filmmaking. Today, there’s just no excuse.

For perhaps the first time in decades, you have three films waiting for release.
It’s a strange phenomenon. I was worried about the fate of Vishwaroopam 2 after what happened to its predecessor. So, instead of waiting for its release, I moved on to Uttama Villain after Lingusamy and I spoke. I also agreed to do Papanasam, as it seemed like an interesting film.

Shooting for these films is over. In fact, shooting for Vishwaroopam 2 was over last October except for one song. Production delays have kept it waiting. Clearly, you can do as many pujas as you want when launching a film, but its fate ultimately isn’t decided by supernatural entities.

You are an atheist, are you not? It’s interesting that you ended Dasavatharam with ‘kadavul irundha nalla irukkum’ (it’d be a good thing if god existed)?
Let me just say I can exist without god; I cannot exist without people. The line was a compromise in a way. I believe that the true saints are those working in places like CERN. A person like Peter Higgs should probably be canonised by the Vatican. Those are the saints I worship.

Does atheism leave a void after death? Theists have the comfortable belief of knowing there’s life after death, perhaps even heaven.
Mortality doesn’t bother me. It’s a part of life, not apart from it. What’s a sentence without a full stop? In a way, Uttama Villain deals with a similar subject. You’ll know more about the similarity when you watch the film. I play an actor, and K. Balachander, my real life mentor, plays the same role in the film. The film is sort of my tribute to him.

What’s your motivation for continuing to make and act in films?
It’s a versatile medium, is it not? I really appreciate it. To be honest, I think it’s been 25 years since I last worked. Films just don’t feel like work any more. They remind me of the time I used to build pyramids with playing cards when I was a child. It’s a sense of personal achievement and it's fulfilling.

There're real atheists/agnostics and philosophers who critic every religion regardless in the likes of Dawkins and several others. KH is not there yet IMO.

There're real atheists/agnostics and philosophers who critic every religion regardless in the likes of Dawkins and several others. KH is not there yet IMO.

I would like to comment a two about KH and his ideology.

KH's grouse against Hindu and Hinduism is without understanding, not wanting to understand. In one of his earlier movie KH made a reference relating to a justice for the minorities in a state where the riots had taken place and questioned the action of the head of the state.

Result - The head of the state after becoming the head of the country invited KH for Clean India campaign but what is most important for KH is to cleanse his mind....to think alike....

Yes..he is a wonderful actor..no doubt about it....but when it comes to ideologies...he has to grow....

Just an FYI - Richard Dawkins recently created a furor by criticizing a particular religion for the lack of Nobel Laureates in them due to their religious fanatism. And it was not Christianity .. Had he known a little more on Hinduism and its religious practices, he would have critic-ed them as well.

KH criticizes Hinduism a lot more and talks very little about other religious practices despite that he has the exposure to all the main religions.

Hinduism is not a race, it is not an ethnic group, it is not a distinctly identifiable community.

Anyone has any right to criticize a set of beliefs that one sees as being dogmatic, irrational or anachronistic.

so does Kamal - furthermore, it is difficult to objectively quantify the level of criticism on an idea or set of ideas or ideology which is what religious ideas are - each one to his/ her own.

I don't see why not Mr. Srinivasan. We could be someone's fan but where we as KH fans stand out is that most of us have a will to criticize him on beliefs that don't fully conform .. We had earlier reported that the shooting portions of Papanasam were wrapped up in October-end in a rapid time frame of 39 days. Now the team has moved on to the post-production phase, currently the dubbing work of the film is going on full-fledged in AVM Studios, Chennai.

Kamal Haasan, known to be a perfectionist gives so much of importance to lip-sync and detailing, and we’re sure that Papanasam will be no different either. Though the film is nearing completion, the industry buzz is that Kamal’s Uttama Villian will most likely release before Papanasam. But we have not got any official confirmation from the ‘Vishwaroopam’ hero’s camp yet.

Meanwhile, the legend turns 60 on Friday, the 7th November and fans are busy planning out grand celebrations.

All I can infer is he's able to take more liberties and critic the religion he was raised in and unable to do the same with other religions despite knowning whats going on there - due to reasons not fully known (simply more knowledge of his own background or fear of repurcussions or just playing a good host to minorities etc.). Infact there may be very few who have been uniform in their criticisms across religions. Genuine atheists really dont care about the religion they critcize. Someone can enlighten me of such people in India.

I agree with what you saying in the first paragraph. But, nothing wrong with KH voicing his views only on Hinduism. It can be used to introspect and progress one's chosen faith. No need for Kamal to shut up. We are all free to counter his points. I am sure his close friends are actively doing that.

Known is a drop unknown is an ocean, "he who knows him self knows all", if one knows him self, such remarks will not harm him, one will not take such remarks seriously. But a person knowing him self is the hardest test in life, Scriptures, vedas, religions can guide one, but one has to understand this through sheer experience :)

ஒரு மதத்தை சேர்ந்தவர் இன்னொரு மதத்தை விமர்சிப்பது பிரச்சனையை உருவாக்கும்..

On a scientific, personal and rationalist basis, what you're saying is fine by me. But here is the problem: What happened when a cartoonist in France made fun of prophet Mohammed ? It hurt millions of Muslims who believe in him as God. It forced an apology from the Govt and the Cartoonist. What happened locally ? MK sarcastically insulted/hurt millions of Hindus by poking fun at their God whom they worship religiously. Why do we want to do it ? If we dont believe in mythology and Gods, fine. Nobody is forcing it on you.

What is valid in my opinion is criticizing practices anywhere in any religion that infringes on human rights, women rights, untouchability, religious violence and so forth. What Boko Haram did in Nigeria by kidnapping 100s of school girls is atrocious. What was done to Malala Yousef was again despicable. It makes more sense to condemn such acts be it any religion rather than poking fun at the beliefs of people. Even if you dont insult people by caste, insulting their religious faith and foundation is not something of any value.

முப்பது வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு நான் வளர்ந்த கிராமப் புறங்களில் கமல் ரசிகர்களிடையே நிகழும் உரையாடலை கவனித்தால் ரெண்டு விஷயங்கள் தென்படும். 1) கட்டான உடல் அமைப்பு 2) உடைகள். கிராமங்களில் ஏதாவது ஒரு மூலையில் உடற்பயிற்சிக்கென இரும்பிலான இணை குழாய்கள் ஊன்றப்பட்டிருக்கும். காலை மாலை வேளைகளில் இளைஞர்கள் வேர்க்க விறுவிறுக்க உடற்பயிற்சி அதுவும் அந்தக் குழாய்களின் ஒரு முனையிலிருந்து எதிர் முனைவரை அங்கும் இங்கும் சென்று கொண்டு இருப்பார்கள். இடைவேளைகளில் கமலின் புஜங்கள் பற்றியெல்லாம் சிலாகிப்பார்கள். காக்கிச் சட்டை படம் வெளிவந்த காலம் அது. ஒரு கையை மட்டும் தரையில் ஊன்றி புஷ் அப்ஸ் செய்வார். தியேட்டரிலேயே க்ளாப்ஸ் விழும். படம் பார்த்த அடுத்தநாளே இவர்களும் அதுபோல செய்துபார்ப்பார்கள். காக்கிச்சட்டை பூபோட்டத் தாவணி பாடல் காட்சிகளில் ஒரு சில இடங்களில் பக்கவாட்டு போசில் கைகளை முறுக்கேற்றி பாடுவார், நடனமிடுவார். அதெல்லாம் அப்போதைய பொங்கல் வாழ்த்து அட்டைகளாக வரும். இளைஞர்கள் அதைப் பற்றியெல்லாம் பேசியிருக்கிறார்கள். உடல் விஷயத்தில் இன்றுவரை ஒரு உதாரண புருஷராக இருப்பது கடினமான இலக்குதான். ஆனால் அதை சாத்தியப்படுத்திக் கொண்டெ வருவது கமல். உடற்பயிற்சி மட்டுமே பிரதானமாக எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அங்கங்கே தசைகள் புடைத்துக்கொண்டு இருக்கும் அர்னால்டு போன்ற மனிதர் அல்ல கமல். உடை விஷயத்தில் கமலுக்கு எந்தவிதமான வகைகளும் அப்படி பொருந்தும். அவர் அணியும் நவீன டீஷர்ட் டிசைன்களை பற்றியெல்லாம் சிலாகிப்பார்கள். அந்த ஈர்ப்பில் இவர்களும் தேடித் தேடி புதுவிதமான உடைகளை அணிந்து கொள்வார்கள். வணிக ரீதியில் அமைந்த படங்களில் வகை வகையான உடைகளில் வலம் வருவார் கமல். தூங்காதே தம்பி தூங்காதே படத்தில் அயல்நாட்டிலிருந்து வரும் (போதை மருந்துக்கு அடிமையாக இருக்கும் ) கமலின் உடைகள் அவ்வளவு அழகாக காட்டும் அவரை. காக்கிச் சட்டை 'பட்டுக்கன்னம்' பாடலில் ரோமாபுரி அரசர் உடையில் வருவார். எனக்குத் தெரிந்து அந்த உடை இருவருக்கு மட்டுமே சிறப்பு. ஒன்று வாத்தியார், இன்னொருவர் கமல். கால சக்கரம் ஓடிக்கொண்டே செல்கிறது. 'அக்கடான்னு நாங்க' பாடலில் இந்திய உடையில் கொஞ்ச நேரம் Fashion Show Ramp Walk செய்வது போல வந்துபோவார். அப்படியொரு ஆளுமை, மேனரிசம், பர்சனாலிட்டி. ஆண்டு 2001. மௌண்ட் ரோட் சாந்தி தியேட்டர் பேருந்து நிறுத்தத்திற்கு அருகே பெரிதாக ஒரு பேனரில் பம்மல் கே சம்பந்தம் விளம்பர பலகையில் கோட்-சூட் உடையோடு கம்பீரமாக கமல் நிற்கிறார். பிரமிப்பு அடங்கவே வெகுநேரம் ஆகியது. கொஞ்ச நேரம் நகராமல் அப்படியே ரசித்துப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தேன். உடைகள் கமலுக்காகவே பிறப்பு எடுத்திருப்பது போலத் தோன்றியது. அழகு - கம்பீரம் - கமல்!

உங்களுக்கு இதுவரை தமிழ் சினிமா செய்தவை என்னென்ன?

எதை நான் சொல்றது..? சம்பளம், பாடம், சவுக்கடிவரை எல்லாமே கொடுத்திருக்கிறது தமிழ் சினிமா. நான் பெற்றவை எல்லாம் இங்கிருந்து பெற்றவைதான். கற்றவையும் துன்புற்றவையும் இங்கிருந்து வந்தவைதான்.

தொழில்நுட்ப ரீதியில் ஏற்படும் மாற்றங்களை அப்டேட் செய்துகொண்டாலும்கூட, தமிழ் சினிமாவில் வர்த்தக ரீதியிலான சாதக நிலையை அனுபவிக்கும் சூழல் பரவலாகவில்லையே...

தொழில்நுட்பத்தை வளர விடமால், நாம் புரிந்துகொள்ளாமல் இருக்கிறோம். முற்காலத்தில் ஒரு கதை சொல்வார்கள். ஒரு மகாராஜா வந்து மக்களின் விசுவாசத்தை சோதிப்பதற்காக கோயிலுக்கு வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக ஒரு பெரிய அண்டா செய்தாராம். மக்களிடம் 'எல்லோர் வீட்டில் இருந்து பால் கொண்டு வந்து நிரப்பி விடுங்கள்' என்றாராம். அண்டா என்பது கோபுர அளவிற்கு பெரியது. அப்போது ஒரு சிலர் 'இவ்வளவு பெரிய அண்டாவில் பால் ஊற்றி நிரப்ப வேண்டும் என்றால் கட்டுப்படி ஆகாது' என்று நினைத்தார்கள். இத்தனை பேர் பால் ஊற்றினார்கள் என்பது இரண்டு பேர் தண்ணீர் ஊற்றினால் தெரியாது என்று நினைத்திருக்கிறார்கள். எல்லாருமே பால் ஊற்றி இருக்கிறார்கள், ஆனால், எல்லாமே நீர்ந்து போய்விட்டது. ஏனென்றால், அதில் தண்ணீர்தான் மேம்பட்டு தெரியுதே தவிர பால் தெரியவில்லை. அதேதான் தற்போது தமிழ் சினிமாவில் நடக்கிறது.

நேர்மை இருந்தால் மட்டுமே எந்த வியாபாரமும் ஜெயிக்கும். எல்லாருமே காயைப் பழுக்க வைக்க மருந்து அடிச்சே பண்ணிட்டு இருக்க முடியாது. நிஜமாவே ஒரு பழம் இருக்கணும். அந்த பழம் தானே, இந்தப் பழம் என்று கவுண்டமணி - செந்தில் காமெடி எல்லாம் இந்த விஷயத்தில் பண்ண முடியாது. கண்டிப்பாக நேர்மை வந்தாக வேண்டும். வரும். எல்லாருமே கருப்பு பணத்தில் வாழ்ந்து விடலாம் என்று நினைக்கிறவர்கள்... வந்து பிற்பாடு வீடு வாங்கும்போது கஷ்டப்படுவார்கள். தன்னை ஒரு பணக்காரனாகக் காட்ட வேண்டும் என்ற நிலை வரும்போது பெரிய சூழ்ச்சி எல்லாம் பண்ண வேண்டியது வரும். அதேபோல் எல்லோரும் உண்பதற்கு இங்கே உணவு உண்டு. அதை புரிந்துகொள்வார்கள் என்று நம்புகிறேன். இந்தி திரையுலகில் எப்படி 400 கோடி, 300 கோடி என்று பேச முடிகிறது? நேர்மை வந்ததுதான் காரணம். இங்கேயும் வந்துவிடும் என்ற நம்பிக்கை இருக்கிறது.

ஒரு முக்கியப் படைப்புக்கு 'எதிர்ப்பு, போராட்டம்' முதலான சூழலுக்கு வித்திட்டது, 'சண்டியர்'. அப்போது ஓர் கலைஞனாக உங்கள் தரப்புக்கு ஏற்பட்ட கோபம் தணிய எவ்வளவு நாளானது? ?

என்ன கோபம். நான் திட்டுவதற்குப் பதிலா... அவங்களே அவங்கள திட்டிக்கிட்ட மாதிரி இல்ல. கெட்டதோ, நல்லதோ வார்த்தைகள் தேவையில்லை. அவங்களுக்கே தெரிஞ்சு போச்சு. என்னை எதிர்த்தவர்கள் என்ன பதில் சொல்லப் போகிறார்கள். அதில் என்ன வீரம் இருக்கிறது?

சண்டியர் என்பது சாதிப்பெயர் அல்ல. விருமாண்டி என்பதுதான் சாதிப்பெயர். அதைக்கொண்டு வந்து வைக்க வைத்தார்கள். சண்டியர் என்பது எந்தச் சாதியில் வேண்டுமானாலும் இருக்கலாம். ரவுடித்தனம் பண்ணுபவர்கள் எல்லாருமே சண்டியர்தான். இந்தப் பெயர் வைக்கக் கூடாது என்று சொன்னவரை வேண்டுமானால்கூட அப்படிச் சொல்லலாம். அவர்களுக்கான பதிலைக் காலம் சொல்லிவிட்டது.

என்ன கோபம். நான் திட்டுவதற்கு பதிலா... அவங்களே அவங்கள திட்டிக்கிட்ட மாதிரி இல்ல. நான் தனியாக வார்த்தைகள் தேட வேண்டியதில்லை. கெட்டதோ, நல்லதோ வார்த்தைகள் தேவையில்லை. அவங்களுக்கே தெரிஞ்சுப் போச்சு. என்னை எதிர்த்தவர்கள் என்ன பதில் சொல்ல போகிறார்கள். அதில் என்ன வீரம் இருக்கிறது?

ஆனால், ஒரு படைப்பின் மீது கட்டுப்பாடுகள் விதிப்பதில் அரசியல் தலையீடு அதிகரித்தபடி இருக்கிறதே...

கடந்த 50 வருடங்களாக அரசியல்வாதிகள்தான் இதை பண்ணிகிட்டு இருக்காங்க. அமெரிக்காவில் இருக்கிற சுதந்திரம் கண்டிப்பா இங்கு கிடையாது. நாவலாசிரியர் ஜெய மோகனுக்கு இருக்கும் சுதந்திரம், ஒரு திரைக்கதையாளனாக ஜெயமோகனுக்குக் கிடையாது. சென்சார் போர்டு ஒண்ணு வைச்சு பரவாயில்லை, கொஞ்சம் வெட்டி எடுத்துக்கோங்க என்று சொன்னாலும், அதையும் தாண்டி ஒரு கூட்டம் உட்கார்ந்துகொண்டிருக்கிறது.

‘வசூல்ராஜா எம்.பி.பி.எஸ்’ என்று தலைப்பு வைத்ததிற்கு என் மீது வழக்கு போட்டாங்க. டாக்டர்கள் அனைவரும் எங்களை வசூல்ராஜா என்று சொல்கிறார் என்றார்கள். ஃப்ரீயா பண்ற டாக்டர் எத்தனை பேர் இருக்கிறார்கள். இப்போ சொல்றேன். எனக்குத் தெரிஞ்சு இப்போ நிறைய நிஜ வசூல்ராஜாக்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள். என்ன பண்ணப் போகிறார்கள் இவர்கள்!

சரி, அரசியல் தலையீடுகளைக் காட்டிலும், இணையத்தில் மலிந்துவரும் விமர்சனங்கள் மீதுதான் தமிழ் சினிமா கலைஞர்கள், படைப்பாளிகளுக்கு ஒருவித அச்சுறுத்தல் இப்போது அதிகரித்து இருக்கிறது என்பதை கவனித்தீர்களா?

இணையத்தில் விமர்சனம் பண்ணக் கூடாது என்று சொல்லிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். அதை எப்படித் தடுக்க முடியும்? என் கலைக்கு விமர்சனம் இருக்கக் கூடாது என்று எப்படிச் சொல்ல முடியும்? ஒரு படம் நல்லாயில்லை என்று சொல்லும் உரிமையை நீங்கள் எப்படித் தடுக்கலாம். கமல் ஹாசனுக்கு நடிப்பே வரலைங்க, அவர் எல்லாம் வீட்டில் போய் நடிக்காமல் உட்காரலாம் என்று சொல்லும் உரிமை அவனுக்கு இருக்கிறது. அந்த உரிமை உனக்கில்லை என்று சொல்லும் திறமை என்னுடையதாக இருக்கிறது. அதுதானே ஒரு நடிகனுடைய வெற்றி. ஆள் வெச்சு அடிக்கவா முடியும்.

‘ராஜபார்வை’, ‘மகாநதி’, ‘அன்பே சிவம்’ முதலான படங்கள் வெளியானபோது பெரிதாக கவனிக்கப்படாமல், காலம் கடந்து கொண்டாடப்பட்டுவருகிறது. இதை எப்படிப் பார்க்கிறீர்கள்?

அது மாறி மாறி நடக்கும். ‘கை கொடுத்த தெய்வம்’ என்று ஒரு படம், அது வந்து ‘பாசமலர்’ அளவுக்குப் போகவில்லை. ‘கான் வித் த விண்ட் ’ என்னும் படம் இன்று எல்லோரும் பேசும் படம். முதல் சுற்றில் அது ஒரு தோல்விப் படம். 'சந்திரலேகா' கணக்குப் பார்த்தார்கள் என்றால் கம்மியான லாபம்தான் ஈட்டி இருக்கும். காலப்போக்கில் அது அடித்த அடிக்கு யாருமே பக்கத்தில் நிற்க முடியாது. அதே மாதிரி நிறைய படங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. திரும்ப திரும்ப வருமானம் ஈட்டும் வழிகள் அனைத்தையும் நாம் அடைத்துவிட்டோம். அதனால் சில உண்மைகள் நமக்குப் புரிவதில்லை.

'குருதிப் புனல்', 'அன்பே சிவம் போன்ற' படங்களை மீண்டும் திரையில் பார்க்க விரும்புவதாக ட்விட்டரில் ரசிகர்கள் அவ்வப்போது சொல்லி வருவதைப் பார்த்திருக்கிறேன். ரீ-ரிலீஸ் சாத்தியமா?

அது என்னுடையது இல்லையே. தயாரிப்பாளர்களே அந்தப் படத்தை நம்பவில்லை. தயாரிப்பாளர் நம்ப வேண்டும், தயாரிக்கும் போதே பயப்பட ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டார்கள். குதிரை ஒட்டத் தெரியாதவன் எப்படி மேலே ஏறி உட்கார்ந்தால் உடனே கீழே தள்ளி விட்டுவிடும். அதே மாதிரி தான் ரசிகர்களும். தயாரிப்பாளர்களின் பதற்றம் எல்லாம் ரசிகர்களுக்கும் பரவிவிட்டது. 'இது நல்லா இருக்காது போலிருக்கே.. தயாரிப்பாளரே இப்படி பயப்படுறாரு' என்று வேறு பக்கம் திரும்பி பார்த்து விட்டார்கள். அப்புறம் தெரிந்து சிலர் தேடி வருகிறார்கள். எனக்கு சிவாஜி சார் சொல்லித்தான் தெரியும், 'உத்தம புத்திரன்' வெற்றி படம் இல்லை என்று. என்னால் நம்பவே முடியவில்லை. நானே 10 தடவை பார்த்த படம் இது. எனக்கு தெரிந்து நான்கைந்து முறை பார்த்தவர்களும் இருக்கிறார்கள்.

"படம் பார்த்தப்போ உனக்கு நாலு வயசு இருக்கும். நான் அந்தப் படம் போகலயேனு கவலைப்பட்டிருக்கேன். ஒடுச்சுனு சொல்றால... வசூலைக் கொண்டுவந்து காட்டு. நம்புறேன்" அப்படினு சொல்லியிருக்கார் சிவாஜி சார். அது தோல்விப் படம் கிடையாது. ரி-ரீலீஸ் ஆகி படம் வெற்றியாகி இருக்கிறது.

நான் என்னுடைய படத்தை பண்ணலாம். மற்றவர்கள் படத்தை நான் எப்படிப் போய் சொல்ல முடியும். ரி-ரீலீஸ் பண்ண வேண்டும். திரையரங்கிற்கு மறுபடியும் பழைய படங்கள் வருவது ஒரு வாடிக்கையாக வேண்டும். அதை தொலைக்காட்சியில் மட்டும் பார்த்துக் கொள்ளலாம் என்று நினைப்பது தவறு.

கமல் ஹாசன் என்றாலே ஜீனியஸ் என்ற பிம்பம், தமிழ் சினிமா ரசிகர்களிடம் அதிகம் உண்டு. உன்னைப் போல் ஒருவனில் உங்களை ஒரு சாமானியாக ரசிகர்களால் பார்க்க முடியவில்லை என்ற ஒரு வாதமும் உண்டு. அப்படி இருக்க, த்ரிஷ்யம் படத்தின் அடிப்படை அம்சமே ஓர் எளிய மனிதனின் அசாதாரண முயற்சி என்பதுதான். மலையாளம் ஆடியன்ஸ் மோகன்லாலை ஜார்ஜுகுட்டியாகத்தான் பார்த்தார்கள்... ஆனால், பாபநாசத்தில் கமல்ஹாசனை கமல்ஹாசனாகவே பார்க்க நேர்ந்தால்..?

நான் இதை மறுக்கிறேன். அந்தப் படத்தில் நான் மோகன்லாலாகத்தான் பார்த்தேன். ‘த்ரிஷ்யம்' படத்தில் மோகன்லால்தான் தெரிகிறார். இதைவிட மோகன்லால் சிறப்பாக நடித்த படங்களை நான் காட்ட முடியும். இந்த மாதிரி பேசுபவர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் பதில் சொல்லும் படமாகப் ‘பாபநாசம்' அமையும்.

நடித்தால் நடிக்கிறார் என்கிறீர்கள், ஓவராக மேக்கப் போட்டால் மேக்கப் என்கிறீர்கள். நான் செய்ததைப் பாருங்கள். நல்லா இருந்தால் நல்லாயிருக்குன்னு சொல்லுங்க, நல்லாயில்லை என்றால் பிடிக்கலன்னு சொல்லுங்க. தவறுகள் இருந்தால் ஒத்துக் கொள்ளலாம், இந்த மாதிரியான அவதூறுகளை எல்லாம் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள மாட்டேன். ‘தேவர் மகன்' படத்தில்கூட கமல் தெரிவான். ஆனால் ‘மகாநதி'யில் அவன் கிருஷ்ணா. ‘தசாவதாரம்' பல்ராம் நாயுடு வேடத்தில் கமல் ஹாசன் எங்கு தெரிகிறான்?

இந்தத் தொழிலில் ரசிகர்களை விட எனக்குக் கொஞ்சம் அதிகமாகத் தெரியும். பாலமுரளி கிருஷ்ணாவின் பாடல்களை ரசித்துவிட்டு, இப்படிப் பாடியிருக்கலாம் என்று சொல்லத் தெரியாது. இன்றைக்குத் தொண்டை கட்டியிருக்கிறதுபோல என்று வேண்டுமானால் சொல்லலாம். இது கர்வம் அல்ல. எனது ஆளுமையால் வரும் தன்னம்பிக்கை.

ம்... 'துரோகால்' சஸ்பென்ஸ் படம். அதை ரீமேக்கும்போது 'குருதிப் புனல்' சஸ்பென்ஸுடன் ஆக்*ஷன் வகையறாவாக மாற்றப்பட்டது. 'வசூல்ராஜா'வில் மைக்கேல் மதன காமராஜனில் இருந்த வசன விளையாட்டு மிகுந்திருந்தது. அந்த வகையில், 'பாபநாச'த்தில் தமிழுக்காக என்ன மாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது?

கதையை மாற்றவில்லை. ரொம்ப வித்தியாசமாக வந்திருக்கிறது என்று இயக்குநர் சொன்னார். நான் நம்பக் கடமைப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன். இல்லையென்றால் டேக் 2 கேட்டிருப்பார்.

இந்த ஆண்டு கோவா திரைப்பட விழாவுக்கான ‘இந்தியன் பனோரமா’ பிரிவில் ஒரேயொரு தமிழ்ப் படம்தான் தேர்வாகியிருக்கிறது. இதுபற்றி விழாக் குழுவைச் சேர்ந்த ஒருவரிடம் கேட்டபோது "தமிழ் சினிமா தொழில்நுட்பத்தில் ஸ்ட்ராங்கா இருக்கு. ஆனா, கன்டென்ட்-டில் வீக்கா இருக்கு" என்றார். தமிழ் சினிமாவுக்கு ஏன் இந்த நிலை?

தலை குனிகிறேன். இன்னும் கோபத்தில் தலை நிமிர்ந்து அடுத்தப் படத்தில் நல்லா எடுக்கலாம். இதுக்கு மறுத்துப் பேசி, தமிழுக்கு இடம் கொடுங்கள் என்று பேசாதீர்கள். அது விலாசம். தகுதிக்கு இடம் கேளுங்கள். அது தப்பு என்றால் என்னவென்று பாருங்கள். நீ இந்த படிப்பு படிக்கல, அதனால் உனக்கு இந்த வேலை கிடைக்காது என்றால், அந்த வேலையை படித்து விடலாமே. இன்றைக்கே வேலை வேண்டும் என்று நினைப்பவர்களுக்கு அது நடக்காது. எனக்கே அந்தக் கருத்து உண்டு. நாம ஏதோ பெருசா சாதித்து விட்டோம் என்று பத்து படம் பார்த்து விட்டு எடுத்தால், நாமும் அதற்கு நிகராகி விடுவோமா? சிவாஜி மாதிரி நடித்துவிட்டால், அவரை விஞ்சிவிட்டதாக அர்த்தமா? யாரை மாதிரி பார்த்து நடித்தாலும், அது மிமிக்ரிதானே. 'கிஸ்தி, திரை, வட்டி' என்று நாங்கள் பேசியது எல்லாம் மிமிக்ரிதானே. நாகேஷ் மாதிரி செய்பவர்கள் எல்லாரும் நாகேஷ் ஆகிவிட முடியாது. அவர்கள் நாகேஷின் விசிறிகள்.

அந்த மாதிரிதான் நம்ம எடுக்கும் படங்கள் வந்து, வெள்ளைக்காரன் படத்தைப் பார்த்து காப்பியடிச்சு எடுத்தா அதற்கு நிகராகி விடாது. எழுத்தாளர்களில் ஜெயகாந்தனும், புதுமைப்பித்தனும் இப்போது இருக்கிற நிறைய நல்ல எழுத்தாளர்கள் மாதிரி, சினிமாவிலும் வர வேண்டும். ஜெயகாந்தன் எங்கிருந்து எடுத்தார் என்று யாரும் சொல்லிவிட முடியாது. ஏனென்றால், அது ஒரு தனி ஊற்று. சுடச்சுட எப்போதும் வந்துகொண்டே இருக்கும். அதைப் பார்த்து ரசித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தோம். அப்படி வர வேண்டும் சினிமாவில். வரும் என்று நம்புகிறேன். வராததற்கு வியாபாரம் பெரிதாக கலந்துவிட்டது. வியாபாரிகளும் பின்னாடி நின்றுகொண்டு பேனாவை பிடித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். அவங்களுக்கு வெற்றியின் ரகசியம் தெரியாது. எனக்கு எந்த அளவுக்குத் தெரியாதோ, அதேதான் அவங்களுக்கும். சினிமா காட்டப்படும் தளங்கள் மாறிக்கொண்டே வருகிறது. அந்தத் தளங்களில் எல்லாம் சுதந்திரம் வேண்டும். தனியாருக்குப் போய் சேர வேண்டிய பணங்கள் போய்ச் சேர வேண்டும். அபகரித்தல் என்பது நிறுத்தப்பட வேண்டும். அதை நிறுத்தினால் எல்லாருக்கும் பணம் வரும். வேலி கட்டினால்கூட ஒத்துக்கொள்வேன். விஷத்தை போட்டால் நான் ஒத்துக்கொள்ள மாட்டேன்.

அப்படி என்றால், கதை - திரைக்கதையிலும் தமிழ் சினிமா வலு பெறுவதற்கு, இலக்கியத்தின் பங்களிப்பு அவசியமாகிறது என்பது உணரப்பட வேண்டுமா? தமிழ் சினிமா - இலக்கியம் இடையிலான் பாலத்தை உறுதிப்படுத்த வேண்டிய காலம் வந்துவிட்டது என்பது சரிதானா?

இதை நான் சொல்லி 40 வருஷமாச்சு. பாலம் கட்டுறோம், பாலம் கட்டுறோம் என்று முயற்சியும் பண்ணினோம். பாலகுமாரன் எல்லாம் அப்படி வந்தவர்தான். சுஜாதா எல்லாம் அந்த பாலத்தில் நடந்து வந்தவர்தான். முதலில் வாசித்தல் வேண்டும். திரைக்கதை என்பது தனித்துறை என்றாலும்கூட, அதை எடுப்பது ஒரே இடத்தில் இருக்க வேண்டும். புதுசா ஏதாவது ஒண்ணு காற்றில் பிடிக்கலாம் என்றால் அதற்கும் இருக்கிறது. அது ஒரு யுக்தி. அத்தனை பேருக்கும் கிடைக்கும் என்று சொல்ல முடியாது. அதனால் இருக்கிற நீர்ச்சுணை நோக்கி போவதில் தப்புக் கிடையாது. போறதில்லை இங்க. இங்கே யாரு வேண்டுமானாலும், சினிமா எடுக்கலாம் என்ற நம்பிக்கையும் இருக்கிறது. சினிமா என்பது இப்போது குற்றம் மாதிரி ஆகிவிட்டது. குற்றம் செய்வதற்கு பெரிய திறமை எல்லாம் வேண்டியதில்லை, தைரியம் மட்டும் இருந்தால் போதும். அப்படி ஆகிவிட்டதே என்ற கோபம் இருக்கிறது.

'கிராமத்தில் இருந்து வந்தான்யா பாரதிராஜானு ஒருத்தன். அவனைப் பார்த்து எல்லாரும் வந்துவிட்டார்கள்' என்று பழைய தொழில்நுட்ப கலைஞர்கள் சொல்லுவார்கள். ஏன் பாராதிராஜாவை சொல்லுகிறீர்கள். அவர் அப்படியெல்லாம் வரவில்லை. அவரை அப்படி பேசுபவர்கள் பார்க்கும் போது கோபம் வரும். இவர்கள் எல்லாம் பாரதிராஜாவை பாராட்டமலே இருக்கலாம். அவர் வந்து பட்ட கஷ்டங்கள் எவ்வளவு?. இளையராஜாவிற்கு பின்னால் எவ்வளவு கல்வி, கடின உழைப்பு இருக்கிறது தெரியுமா இவர்களுக்கு. நான் பார்த்து வியக்கிற உழைப்பாளி இளையராஜா. அந்த உழைப்பு இல்லாமல் வருபவர்கள் விழாவிட்டாலும், விழுந்தால் நன்றாக இருக்கும் என்று நினைக்கும் கூட்டத்தில் நானும் ஒருவன். அதில் நான் பொய் சொல்ல விரும்பவில்லை. அறுவடை பண்ணுவது போல் நடித்தால் என்னவாகும் அறுவடையே நடக்காது. அப்புறம், எங்களுடன் வந்து பங்கிற்கு மட்டும் நிற்பார்கள்.

ஒரு முக்கியப் படைப்புக்கு 'படத்தின் வெற்றி என்பது மூன்று வாரங்களாகச் சுருங்கிவிட்டதை எப்படிப் பார்க்கிறீர்கள்?

2, 3 வாரங்கள் படங்கள் ஓடுவது போதும் என்றே நினைக்கிறேன். ஏனென்றால் முன்பு 13 பிரின்ட் ரிலீஸ் பண்ணினார் எஸ்.எஸ். வாசன். அதைப் பார்த்தே என்ன முரட்டுத்தனமா பண்றாரே என்று சொன்னவர்கள் இருக்காங்க. தியாகராஜ பாகவதர் காலத்தில் 3 பிரின்ட்தான் போடுவார்கள். பிய்ந்துவிட்டது என்றால், அதைச் சரி செய்வார்கள். புதிதாகப் போட மாட்டார்கள். அதை அதிகரித்தவர்தான் வாசன். நான் 40 பிரின்ட்டாக இருக்கும்போதே, 100 பிரின்ட் தாண்டப் போகிறதுன்னு சொல்லிட்டிருந்தேன். இன்றைக்கு 3000 பிரின்ட்டைத் தொட்டிருக்கிறது. ஆகையால் இரண்டு வாரம் போதுமானது.

உள்ளூர் ரசிகர்களுக்கு உலக சினிமா பார்க்கும் வாய்ப்பு மிக எளிதில் கிடைக்கும் இந்தக் காலக்கட்டத்தில், தமிழ் சினிமா கலைஞர்கள், படைப்பாளிகளின் கூடியிருக்கும் பொறுப்புகள் எத்தகையது?

முதலில் பார்க்க வேண்டிய பொறுப்புகள் இருப்பதாக கருதுகிறேன். ரசிகர்கள் பார்க்கிற அத்தனை படத்தையும் பார்க்க வேண்டும். இவர்கள் தன் சினிமாவை மட்டுமே பார்க்கிறார்கள். உறவுக்குள், உறவுக்குள் கல்யாணம் பண்ணிக் கொண்டே இருந்தால் உருவங்கள் ஒரே மாதிரி இருக்குமே தவிர, வியாதிகள் வருவதற்கு வாய்ப்புண்டு. அதனால் தான் சாதி திருமணம் போன்றவை எல்லாம் நடப்பதாக நினைக்கிறேன். ஒரு வித்தியாசமான சிந்தனைக்காக அல்ல. காதல் தான் இந்த சாதியை எல்லாம் ஒழிக்கும் என்று நினைத்தேன். இப்போ அதையும் கெடுக்கிறார்கள்.

கிரிக்கெட்டில் இந்தியா ஜெயித்தால் பேசுறோம். ஆனால் சாதி ஒழிப்பைப் பற்றி யாருமே பேச மாட்டிக்கிறோம். சாதி ஒழிப்பு ரொம்ப மெதுவா நடக்குது. சாதி இல்லையடி பாப்பா என்று பாட்டு பாடிய பாப்பாவிற்கு எல்லாம் கொள்ளு பேத்தி பிறந்தாச்சு. இன்னும் சாதிக்கலவரம் இந்தியா முழுவதும் இருக்கிறது. ஏதோ தமிழர்களை மட்டும் சாடுவதாக நினைக்க வேண்டாம். நகரத்தில் இருப்பவர்கள் என்னிடம் என்னங்க சாதி என்று இன்னமும் பேசி கொண்டே இருக்கிறீர்கள் என்று? சரவண பவனில் உட்கார்ந்து சாப்பிடுபவர்களுக்கு சாதி எங்கிருந்து தெரியும். கொஞ்சம் தள்ளிப்போனால் தட்டில் சாப்பாடு கொடுக்க மாட்டுக்கிறார்கள். அந்த அநியாயத்தை பத்திரிக்கைகள் கூட சுட்டுக் காட்டுவதில்லை. என்ன அக்கிரமம் பண்ணிக் கொண்டு இருக்கிறார்கள். சாதி மாறவில்லை என்பது தான் நிஜம். சொல்லுவதற்கே பயமாக இருக்கிறது. இப்போது உற்றுக் கவனித்தீர்கள் என்றால், 'தேவர் மகன்' கதையை எப்படி எழுதியிருக்க வேண்டும். சாதிக் கலவரம் என்றால் ரெண்டு சாதி காட்ட வேண்டும் அல்லவா? ஆனால், நான் காட்டவே இல்லை. நான் சொல்ல நினைத்தது அது தான். ஏன் வம்பு என்று நான் சொல்லவே இல்லை.

Happy 60 to the greatest living actor of Tamil Cinema, Sir Kamal Hassan!

My earliest memories of the great man is watching Apoorva Sagodharargal, as a 6 year old with parents in theaters and remember fascinated by the 'Appu' character for years after. Remember discussing about the various possibilities of how he managed to appear as Appu, for many many years in School. The very fact that we still discuss the various techniques he may have adapted, each time we watch the movie in TV even today, that is after 25 years, is testimony to the master's craft and genius.

The next memory is watching Nayagan in a neighbour's house in VCR and absolutely mesmerized by 'Nayakar'. That, 'Thenpandi Cheemayile' became a part of our system, is an understatement.

Like many of the kids of those times, was inclined to like Rajnikanth more, for his hairstyle, his cigarettes/beedi antics, the long shoes that takes care of a portion of his pants and his 'summa suthi suthi adikira' fights :). In fact, Kodi Parakuthu was the first movie I remember watching in theatres and movies like Padikathavan, Mapillai, Raja Chinna Roja and Panakkaran just took the Rajni-awe to a different level.

But time and again the genius in Kamal kept knocking in.

Again similar awe returned for 'Michael Madana Kama Rajan' and just the way he would have shown 4 identically looking but diametrically different Kamal Hasan's, the Villanious Michael, the suave Madan, the innocent show stealer Kameshwaran and my personal favourite, Firefighter Raju (the song 'Rum Bum Bum Arambum' was such a rage those days) were all :notworthy: To have the same look without any get-up change and yet to register 4 different character in the viewer's mind, that was pretty freaking unbelievable and awesome.

I can go on and on on writing how the man's genius captured our attention each time we would be carried away the by the magnetic styles of Rajnikanth.

I remember deeply hurt for Krishnaswamy for losing his hand in Mahanadhi's climax. Jeez, after all the troubles faced by him through the manipulative con, Dhanush (Cochin Haneefa), the tortures in Jail, the emotions when he wins back his daughter, after all, he deserved to live happily ever after, right? Was hurt for days, he shouldn't have lost his hand!

It looks like it might take a lot of time for me to put in all the 'wow' moments of watching the master craftsman, but I will stop here :)

Once again, wishing the timeless legend, a very happy birthday!!

I guess I will do a film with Rajinikanth - Kamal

Kamalhassan, who is celebrating his 60th birthday today and looking forward to complete the pending works for ‘Uthama Villain, and ‘Papanasam’ took some time out of his busy schedule and opened up to a popular daily. After answering a few customary questions, the million dollar question came up. Will you do another film with Rajinikanth?

“It depends. He said if we do a film together, he wouldn’t direct it. It has to be either me or someone else. It would be quite interesting to do a film with him. At the Thenali silver jubilee function, Rajini recalled an incident early in our careers when he was riding pillion on a mo’bike with me. When I sort of took a skid, Rajini asked if I knew how to ride a mo’bike. I assured him even if I fell, I wouldn’t let him fall. I was so touched when at the function Rajini said, ‘That’s what happened in our career. He never let me fall. In 1983 when I wanted to leave everything behind it was Kamal, who cajoled me back to the material world’. I guess we’ll do a film together. We’ve been talking about it for five years. We’re worried about the expectations,” – Says Kamal.

We all wish that both these lengends joins hands one more time to provide the mother of all entertainment.
