Great that the movie's releasing soon...Was actually surprised that they went ahead with the release in such short notice...Knowing Kamal's infamous reputation of failing to meet with release dates (not his fault, but it's a general occurrence for his films to be delayed by some reason or the other), I thought this would follow suit. And looking at the new trailer and the released video song, I think this one could be on par with the original. And the songs are pretty good too. Ghibran continues to provide good music and his consistency in doing that has to be commended.

Very good decision. Movie will open well in US as it is a long weekend here. Schools are closed and long weekend begins from 2nd July in many places. So if they release a day in advance as they normally would do, a good opening is guaranteed. But since this is a smaller movie when compared to Kamal's earlier releases and considering the fact that non-Tamils will not be interested in watching it, I'm not sure how big that opening is going to be.

Kamal Haasan’s Papanasam has got a clean ‘U’ from censor board which ensures better chance for the team to get tax exemption from the Tamil Nadu government.

The team has also announced that the film will be releasing on July 3rd and they have already kick started the promotions in various TV channels.



Papanasam is a remake of Malayalam film Drishyam which is also being remade in Hindi with Ajay Devgn in the lead.

Interestingly, Reliance Entertainment has bought Papanasam’s North India distribution rights and they will be releasing the film with English Subtitles.

Reports say that the Hindi version of Drishyam will be releasing only on July 31st hence Papanasam will have an advantage in the trade belts of North India.

This is a very common complaint from people in TN on KH movies (may be in other places also). This was also heard again for UV very much. It is not that nothing is understandable but certain aspects within a movie comes in the way and the emotional connect between the audience and the movie is broken (for majority of the people). This is the biggest hurdle to achieve BO success besides repeated delays during release time.

Paramu, Even Praboo's post was almost the same meaning of yours.. Family audience does not normally count as any particular actor's fans. That segment normally watch movies in theaters after a week or so if the WOM is good. In fact Praboo did not compare that numbers with any other hero..

Actually KH has the maximum family audience. The problem is, this audience has slowly stopped coming to the theatres over time. That is why there was this master plan called DTH which did not go forward. Kamal would be the biggest beneficiary if DTH comes in. A movie like UV would have greatly benefited.

This is the year of 'Ulaganayagan' fans everywhere. The thespian's second release this year 'Papanasam' is all set for a strong release. Overall, ban announcement, postponement, uncertainity of release, happening repeatedly for ALL kamal films is surely a very very worrysome situation. But if one looks on individual case basis, question raises on other end too. in this case its kamal's.

Even though we may say the distros/theater nexus are turning rowdy mafias, still they are pouring laksh and crores as advance payment, for all the biggies that is kamal/rajini/vijay/ajith/surya films. so they do have a stake. none of the biggies films releases to theaters on collection/dcr share basis. only MG basis is the practical happening of the day.

Uttama villain initial issue was purely due to lingusamy and then itself there was an announcement that kamal's side agreed for a 30crorse small budget film to help lingu's financial case. this indirectly means kamal has some stake in the lingu's case. atleast thats what one can decipher, from the publicly available news sources. then kamal started thoongavanam and there was no news about that 30C movie. now, the distro/theater nexus force-pressed papanasam producers by announcing a verbal-ban for the film yesterday and it seems today morning, those gang were asked to meet kamal in thoongavanam sets in chennai and after a hour long discussion, its being decided that the 30C film will happen after thoongavanam and thus the soft-ban on PN stands lifted. So this info in a way means that kamal didnt consider the 30C movie unless knife was placed in his to be released film. so now whom to be reasoned for the ban, though we may say its unfair way to do this publicly instead of the distro nexus directly contacting the PN movie camp and explaining the issue.

same goes to linga where singaravelan and co had boldly gone even to police and tn gvt eplaining his case and he still owes money from rockline but it seems rajni-nexus successfully fooled singaravelan of settling the money. and there were news that linga losses in other areas were silently settled.

also, coming back to UV, the 1 and half day delay in release and uncertainity, surely made almost 8 crore loss of opening. but kamal didnt care to explain the reason to fans or public, unlike vishwaroopam issue. lingu was most careless and never cared to update fans on the issue (unlike the PN producers who promptly tweeted that there is NO change in release date. ) Also kamal, when asked about the tension fans underwent due to UV delay, said that it was just a temporary financial issue. so this in a way means that he is not worried about the money lost on opening or the uncontrollable mad tension we fans went through that day. i was along with karthi, sandiyar and other fans for the whole 1 and half day, in woodlands, and saw the tension of fans for the whole period.

So i have decided that, i will not worry for any one sided news coming about delay / ban for kamal films. only when he responds/informs publicly t fans about a certain problem about release, like how he did for viswaroopam, will i take that issue, as a fan. becos its not black and white, grey areas are there at both sided. we fans whud not waste energy without a point

It is true that details are very murky with so many players -- multiple layers of distributors and middle men along with theatre owners. Also it may not be fair to expect every piece of financial detail to be reveled to the fans/public. Kamal promising to do a 30 Cr film (it was initially stated in the press as a verbal promise but recently was reported as a written commitment) could have been made to ensure UV releases. It may have been the case (due to Lingu's reckless dealings including double selling -- exactly what is said about Lingaa (the law suit now in court)). But in order to get UV released, Kamal may have been the only person who could help -- and so, he might have offered a commitment in in the interest of UV release.

There was frustration expressed (even in this very forum from people who claimed that they they were hard core fans) that KH is not mentioning the correct release date when it was getting repeatedly delayed. Actually, I believe KH was himself very frustrated but he had no control over it. The players were Lingusamy, Eros and others. VR was different - the problems were from multiple angles and political which had to be dealt with in a public way to mobilize public and fans in his favor. So that is why KH had to come out in public. He was the producer after all and not just on a first copy basis.

Overall, movie making is a very difficult process in India even for big stars. Add to that, the result of a movie is very unpredictable and impacts the next movie (possibly even subsequent movies) in a big way. So fans have to be understanding. In this climate, it is very easy to settle for a very predictable, mass masala movie where box office results have better odds (still no guarantees even with those also, Lingaa, Anjaan, Jilla etc. etc.). So in this environment, Kamal is the ONLY guy who is able to stand up and does films his way with themes he likes to make and not what buyers demand. That takes courage and conviction !

also, coming back to UV, the 1 and half day delay in release and uncertainity, surely made almost 8 crore loss of opening. but kamal didnt care to explain the reason to fans or public, unlike vishwaroopam issue. lingu was most careless and never cared to update fans on the issue (unlike the PN producers who promptly tweeted that there is NO change in release date. ) Also kamal, when asked about the tension fans underwent due to UV delay, said that it was just a temporary financial issue. so this in a way means that he is not worried about the money lost on opening or the uncontrollable mad tension we fans went through that day. i was along with karthi, sandiyar and other fans for the whole 1 and half day, in woodlands, and saw the tension of fans for the whole period.


Whenever UV opening is mentioned, it was always told that there was a loss in the opening day because of delay.
My opinion is similar to what they have told for the Avengers-Age of Ultron opening in hollywood(bringing a hollywood movie here is to avoid fan bashing and it helps me to put the point with actual collection figures)
Avengers-Age of Ultron released on the friday before the Mayweather-Pacquiao so called fight of the century. It was clear that the fight will dent the collections. But the answer given is..if people want to see it, they will see on that saturday or the next saturday. It doesn't mean that whoever will see the fight will never see the movie.
It actually happened. On the fight saturday, there was a huge drop on the saturday, but in the next weekend, friday and saturday saw a bump comparing to the earlier Avengers movie. Bump was in the Percentage increase in the day-to-day increase in collections. Collection amount will be obviously lower for this movie because of the content and response to the movie. Still more people watched the movie in second weekend showed that whoever missed the movie first weekend because of fight still turned up the next weekend(Can argue that it may not be the same people. But that will be for argument sake only as I just wanted to put my point).

Papanasam, the remake of Malayalam Drishyam will release this Friday, the 3rd July. The film is directed by Jeethu Joseph with Kamal Haasan, Gauthami, Nivedha Thomas and others in the cast list.

Drishyam had a very important role of a police officer, played by Asha Sharath who would be reprising her role in the Tamil version too.

In an exclusive conversation with behindwoods, Asha tells that Papanasam is her third Drishyam. She has done the same role in Malayalam, Kannada and now Tamil.

Comparing Drishyam and Papanasam, Asha says,

“The script is the same in both the languages. Kamal and Mohanlal have conceived their characters as per the regional sensibilities. Drishyam and Papanasam are done in different styles. To me, I felt as though I have done two different films and not the same.

I have performed my role in a Tamil style. Whenever we act, it is more of reacting rather than acting based on the artist with whom we are performing. The person who was standing opposite me was Ulaganayagan Kamal sir. Therefore my reactions were based on his actions and vice versa.

My looks also will be different. In Malayalam I had sported straight hair while in Tamil, we went in for my natural curly haired look. In that sense, everything will be different”

Is Asha open to doing Tamil films? “I love Tamil films and can speak the language. I have done my dubbing in Papanasam. Suka sir helped me in my dubbing. I am definitely open to Tamil films when I get good performance oriented roles”

Remaking films are quite difficult. You need to have good casting and detailing to get that flavour correct to meet that particular audiences expectations. They have done a good research part about the story backdrop (Nellai) which should be somewhat similar to original version (Drishyam) to get that authenticity !!

Jeetu Joseph’s Papanasam, his Tamil remake of his own Drishyam, never feels three hours long. In fact, it’s an extremely riveting thriller drama


The interval was hijacked with the screening of an entire 106 minute long Second Hand Husband because Dharmendra, whose family owned Sunny Super Sound, was there himself and the second half started at 6 p.m and the show ended at 7.30! Yet, instead of being exhausted, the audience was applauding the film. “This was the first time I clapped during a press show,” as a critic friend admitted.

'Papanasam (Papanaasam) Movie Review: Live Audience Response

Kamal Haasan and Gauthami starrer "Papanasam" (Also spelled as "Papanaasam") had its first premiere in Mumbai for selected guests. The Tamil movie will release on Thursday evening in some foreign countries and will hit the screens on Friday in India.

It is the Tamil remake of Malayalam blockbuster "Drishyam" starring Mohanlal and Meena. Jeetu Joseph, the creator of the original, has directed "Papanasam". Apart from Kamal Haasan and Gauthami, the real life couple, Niveda Thomas, Esther Anil, Kalabhavan Mani, Asha Sarath and others are in the cast.

"Papanasam" has Ghibran's music, Sujith Vaassudev's cinematography and Ayoob Khan's editing. "Drishyam" has been already made in Kannada and Telugu and both the versions have become hits. The Hindi version starring Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran is in the making. These remake attempts alone tells the strength of the film.

Kamal looked on par with Lal for 3/4th of the film but he takes over in the last quarter. When the director had said in an interview that the Tamil version will be more emotional, I was not very happy. But it works really well.

And it is good to see a promising young talent like Ghibran groomed by Kamal. His music is a huge plus.

On the negatives, I didn't find many. Like the original, the story unfolds in a leisurely pace. Also, I didn't like Gauthami. She was dull compared to Meena.

The show I watched was in the midnight. But almost 80% of the hall was filled with family audience, something that's rare for midnight shows.

Saw the move and its really good even after watching the original version. kamal sir did a great job even after the same character was made memorable by lal sir. This film again proves why lal and kamal sir are the best complete actor in country. If you want to compare these actors lal sir is natural and essayed for malayalam audience and kamal sir put bit of overdose for tamil audience. Wish to see both again together in a movie after unnai pol oruvan. Jeethu Jose you are the luckiest director of this generation to bring best of these actors in recent times.

‘திருசியம்’ படத்தின் கதையில் எந்தவித சிறு மாற்றமும் செய்யாமல், அதேநேரம் தமிழ் ரசிகர்களின் ‘நேட்டிவிட்டி’க்குத் தகுந்தபடி இப்படத்தை மறுஉருவாக்கம் செய்திருக்கிறார் இயக்குனர் ஜீத்து ஜோசப். கமல் போன்ற ஒரு ஜாம்பவானை எப்படிப் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டுமென்பது அவருக்கு நிச்சயம் தெரிந்திருக்கும். மோகான்லாலை இயக்கியவராயிற்றே! ரொம்பவும் எளிமையான கதைக்களம், அதில் சிக்கலான சுவாரஸ்ய முடிச்சுகள், அதை சாமர்த்தியமாக கட்டவிழ்த்திருக்கும் விதம் என, ஒரு படத்தின் வெற்றிக்கு திரைக்கதைதான் ஹீரோ என்பதை ஆணித்தரமாக நிரூபித்திருக்கிறது இப்படம்.

மோகன்லாலின் கேரக்டரில் கமல் நடிக்கிறார் என்ற செய்தி வந்தபோது, அவரைத் தவிர வேறு யாரும் இந்த கேரக்டரை செய்ய முடியாது என பெரும்பாலானோரும், கமலால் மோகன்லால் அளவுக்கு இயல்பாக செய்ய முடியாது என இன்னொரு சாரரும் கருத்துக்களை தெரிவித்தனர். இவை எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் ‘பாபநாசம்’ படத்தின் க்ளைமேக்ஸ் காட்சியில் பதில் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார் உலகநாயகன். கமல் எனும் நடிகனை இப்படத்தில் எங்கு தேடினாலும் கிடைக்கமாட்டார். சுயம்புலிங்கம் மட்டுமே நம் மனதிற்குள் மண்டியிட்டு அமர்ந்திருக்கிறார். சல்யூட் கமல் ஜி!

கமலின் மனைவியாக கௌதமி சற்று வயதானவர்போல் தோன்றினாலும், தன் அனுபவ நடிப்பின் மூலம் அதை மறக்கடிக்கச் செய்துவிட்டார். அதேபோல் கமலின் மகள்களாக நடித்திருக்கும் நிவேதா தாமஸ், எஸ்தர் அனில், போலீஸ் கான்ஸ்டபிளாக வரும் கலாபவன் மணி, ஐஜியாக வரும் ஆஷா சரத், டீக்கடை ஓனர் எம்.எஸ.பாஸ்கர் என ஒவ்வொருவரும் அசத்தியிருக்கிறார்கள். குறிப்பாக ஐஜியின் கணவராக நடித்திருக்கும் ஆனந்த் மகாதேவன் நடிப்பில் கமலுக்கு நிகராக நின்று விளையாடியிருக்கிறார். க்ளைமேக்ஸில் கமலிடம் உரையாடும் அந்த ஒரே டேக் காட்சி ஒன்று போதும்.... வாழ்த்துக்கள் ஆனந்த் மகாதேவன்!

மொத்தத்தில்... 2 மணி நேரம் தியேட்டருக்குள் ரசிகனை அமர வைப்பதற்கே சினிமாக்காரர்கள் படாதபாடுபட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கும் இன்றைய சூழ்நிலையில்... குத்துப்பாட்டு, வெட்டிச்சண்டை, கிளாமர் காட்சிகள், கிராபிக்ஸ் பூச்சுற்றல்கள் என எதுவுமே இல்லாமலும் முழுதாக 3 மணிநேரம் ரசிகனை நின்று நிதானமாக ரசிக்க வைக்க முடியும் என நிரூபித்திருக்கிறது ‘பாபநாசம்’. அதைச் செய்து காட்டியவர்கள் இரண்டு ஹீரோக்கள். ஒருவர் திரைக்கதை. இன்னொருவர் உலகநாயகன்!

Just returned from the theatre.

It started very slowly and for the first 30 minutes characters are established which seemed slow. Sorry, not used to these things in Tamil Movies. Then, the problem started and that induced the interest. Then, second half completely immersed in the movie. Connected with the film emotionally and felt pain when characters were beaten. I felt like seeing the things from a window in Police station. Climax was superb. (I have not seen the Drishyam).

Going again tomorrow to relive the experience.

Not much has been changed from Drishyam, content wise except for a few alterations in the dialogues and the structuring of certain scenes pertaining to the landscape of the story adn the characters involved . It succeeds as a remake yet retains its own identity, which is commendable. The climax is testimony to that. And a lot of credit must go to the director for understanding the need for change and incorporating it , writer Jeyamohan for penning the dialogues effectively and the actors for pulling it off.

Jeethu Joseph is the one director who always comes up with a better product every single time. Papanasam is not an exception. It will make you glued to your seat just like the malayalam version even though you have already watched it. Suyambu Lingam character of Kamal is his career best. Lalettan excelled in role of Georgekutty but Kamal's Suyambu Lingam raised the bar even further. Jeethu had made few tweaks in script to add more comedy one-liners for Kamal in first half and improvised on Kamal's acquisitive businessman-farmer cum happily married husband role.

Interrogation scenes in second half received claps. Gautami, Asha Sarath and Nivedita did their roles well. Mani's character was more menacing than Shajon's version. Jeethu had also skipped a scene where protagonist calls home in their land line which was later questioned in social media as loophole in script. [Cycle odikal dialogue also skipped!!] Overall, Papanasam excels Drishyam with Kamal's extra ordinary portrayal of Suyambu Lingam character. Full marks to Kamal and Jeethu.

அதோடு சாதாரணமனிதன் என்று திரும்பத்திரும்பச் சொல்லிக்கொண்டிருந்தாலும், அவருடைய செயல்கள், பேச்சு ஆகியன முதிர்ந்தமனிதராகவே காட்டுகிறது. பாபநாசம் வட்டாரவழக்கையும் பொருத்தமாகப் பேசியிருக்கிறார் அவர் மட்டுமல்ல எல்லா நடிகர்களும் அதில் கவனமாக இருந்திருக்கிறார்கள். கமல், இயற்கைவிவசாயம், கல்விமுறை, அரசியல் என எல்லாவற்றையும் பேசுகிறார். தலைக்கு மேல் வளர்ந்த பெண்குழந்தைகளைக் கொண்டிருந்தாலும் கமல் நடிப்பதால், அவர் காதல்மன்னன்தான் என்பதற்காகவே சில காட்சிகளையும் வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள். சிரிப்பும் கிண்டலுமாக அந்தக்காட்சிகள் கலகலப்பூட்டுகின்றன. எப்போதும் சினிமாவையே பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருப்பதற்குத் திரைக்கதையில் நியாயம் சொல்லிவிட்டார்கள்.

அவருடைய மனைவியாக கௌதமி, தோற்றத்தில் முதிர்ச்சி தெரிந்தாலும் கமலைப் பார்க்கும் காதல்பார்வை தேவர்மகனை நினைவுபடுத்துகிறது. திடீரென ஏற்பட்டுவிட்ட அசம்பாவிதத்தை அவர் எதிர்கொள்ளும் விதத்தில் நல்லநடிகை என்பதையும் காட்டிவிடுகிறார். கஞ்சத்தனம் மிகுந்த அப்பாவைப் பாசமிக்க பெண்குழந்தைகள் என்னவெல்லாம் செய்யுமோ அவ்வளவும் இந்தப்படத்தில் இருக்கிறது. பெரியபெண்ணாக நடித்திருக்கும் நிவேதாதாமஸூம் சிறியபெண்ணாக நடித்திருக்கும் எஸ்தரும் கமல், கௌதமி ஆகிய இருவருக்கு இணையாக நடித்திருக்கிறார்கள். காவல்துறை ஐஜியாக நடித்திருக்கும் ஆஷாசரத், மிடுக்கான நடிப்பில் யார்இவர்? என்று கேட்கவைத்திருக்கிறார்.

சுஜித்வாசுதேவின் ஒளிப்பதிவு, ஜெயமோகனின் வசனங்கள், சுகாவின் பங்களிப்பு ஆகியன படத்துக்குப் பலமாக அமைந்திருக்கின்றன. தொழில்நுட்பங்கள் அதிலும் குறிப்பாக நவீன கைபேசிகளால் நடக்கும் சிக்கலே இந்தப்படத்தின் மையச்சிக்கலுக்குக் காரணம். அதை வைத்துக்கொண்டு, இந்தநாடே நம்முடையதுதான் என்கிற எண்ணம் கொண்ட அதிகாரவர்க்கத்தினரை சாடியிருக்கிறார்கள். கடைசியில் கெளதமியிடம், பொய்யே பேசக்கூடாது என்று சொல்லி வளர்த்த என் குழந்தைகளுக்கு நானே பொய்பேசக்கற்றுக்கொடுத்துவிட்டேனே அதுவே உறுத்தலாக இருக்கிறது,

மலையாளத்தில் உருவான 'த்ரிஷ்யம்' தெலுங்கு, கன்னடம் என மூன்று மொழிகளிலும் ஹிட்டடித்து, தற்போது தமிழில் 'பாபநாசம்' என்ற பெயரில் ரீமேக் செய்யப்பட்டு, ரிலீஸ் ஆகியிருக்கிறது. ஹிட் படத்தின் ரீமேக், கமல் நடிப்பு என்ற இந்த காரணங்களே பாபநாசம் படத்தைப் பார்க்க வைத்தன.

சரி, படம் எப்படி?
மிக நீண்ட நன்றி கார்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு படம் தொடங்குகிறது.
போலீஸ் ஸ்டேஷனில் கமல் டிவியில் கேட்ட கேள்விக்குப் பதில் சொல்லும்போது ரசிகர்கள் அமைதி காத்தனர். விசில், கிளாப்ஸ் எதுவும் இல்லாமல் தியேட்டர் முழுக்க நிசப்தம் நிலவியது.
ஜெயமோகன் வசனங்களுக்கு சிரிப்பு சத்தம் அதிகம் கேட்டுக்கொண்டே இருந்தது.

கதை: டிவிக்கு கேபிள் இணைப்பு தரும் சுயம்புலிங்கத்துக்கு இரண்டு மகள்கள். மனைவி, மகள்களுடன் மிக சிக்கனமாக நேர்மையுடன் உண்மையுடன் வாழ்கிறார். மூத்த மகள் கல்விச் சுற்றுலா செல்லும்போது, அங்கு செல்போன் கேமராவில் படம் பிடிக்க முயற்சிக்கும் இளைஞனை கோபிக்கிறார். அதற்குப் பிறகு அந்த இளைஞன் கமல் மகளைப் பின் தொடர்கிறார். அதனால் எதிர்பாராத விபரீதம் நிகழ்கிறது. சுயம்புலிங்கம் குடும்பமே அந்தப் பிரச்சினையில் சிக்கிக் கொள்கிறது. ஒரு சாமானிய குடும்பத்தினர் மிகப் பெரிய சிக்கல்களை எதிர்கொண்ட விதமே பாபநாசம்.

ஒரு படம் ஐந்து மொழிகளில் (இந்தியிலும் த்ரிஷ்யம் ரீமேக் ஆகிறது) ரீமேக் ஆகிறது என்றால் அது சாதாரண விஷயமல்ல. அந்த அளவுக்கு கதைத் தன்மையும், திரைக்கதையும் அழுத்தமாக இருப்பதே காரணம். மொழி, கலாச்சாரம், வாழ்க்கை முறைகள் தாண்டி, எந்தக் களத்திலும் பொருந்தக்கூடிய தன்மை நிறைந்திருப்பது மிக முக்கிய காரணம்.

'த்ரிஷ்யம்' படத்தை மலையாளத்தில் இயக்கிய ஜீத்து ஜோசப் தமிழில் 'பாபநாசம்' என்று மறு ஆக்கம் செய்ததால்தான் என்னவோ, அசல் தன்மை எந்த இடத்திலும் மிஸ் ஆகாமல் ஜீவனோடு இருக்கிறது.
தமிழில் இப்படி ஒரு படத்தை மறு ஆக்கம் செய்ததற்காக ஜீத்து ஜோசப்பை வாழ்த்தலாம்.

கதை, திரைக்கதையில் எந்த மாற்றமும் செய்யாமல், கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நாயக பிம்பத்தை திணிக்காமல் இயல்பான நடுத்தர குடும்பத் தலைவன் சுயம்புலிங்கமா நடித்ததற்காக, கமல்ஹாசனைப் பாராட்டியே ஆக வேண்டும்.

ஆரம்பக் காட்சிகளில் கமலை புத்திசாலியாக காட்டவே இல்லை. கொஞ்சம் படிப்பு வாசனை இல்லாத சாமானிய மனிதர் என்றே காட்சிப்படுத்தி இருக்கிறார்கள்.
கமல் சயின்ஸ் பாடத்துல கணக்கு வராதா? என அப்பாவியாகக் கேட்பது, ரொமான்ஸ் நேரத்திலும் கார் கேட்கும் மனைவியிடம், அதுக்கு வேற ஆளைப் பாரு என வம்பு செய்வது, செகண்ட் ஹேண்ட் கார் வாங்கித் தரேன் என சமாதானம் செய்வது, சிக்கனத்தைக் கடைபிடிப்பது, எதற்காகவும் குடும்பத்தை விட்டுக்கொடுக்காமல் இருப்பது என சாமானியனுக்கான அடையாளத்தோடு பொறுப்புள்ள அப்பாவாக நம் கண் முன் நிற்கிறார்.
போலீஸ் விசாரணையில் என்ன நடக்கும்? என்பதை குடும்பத்தினரிடம் சொல்லிக் காட்டும்போதும், காயங்களோடு சின்ன மகளைப் பார்த்து பார்வையாலேயே செய்தியைச் சொல்ல வருவதுமாக அசத்துகிறார் நடிகர் கமல்.

தன் வீட்டு முன் ஊரும், போலீஸூம் குழுமிக் கிடக்க, எந்த துப்பும் கிடைக்கவில்லை என்று போலீஸ் கைவிரிக்கும் சமயத்தில் கமல் காட்டும் ரியாக்*ஷன்... சான்ஸே இல்ல!
ரீ என்ட்ரி ஆகியிருக்கும் கௌதமி இரு மகள்களின் அம்மாவாக இயல்பாக எந்த உறுத்தலும், நெருடலும் இல்லாமல் கதாபாத்திரத்தோடு ஒன்றி நடித்திருக்கிறார். பரபரப்பும் படபடப்புமாக மகள்கள் குறித்து கவலைப்படும்போது மனதில் நிற்கிறார்.

கமலின் மகள்களாக நடித்திருக்கும் நிவேதா தாமஸ், பேபி எஸ்தர் ஆகிய இருவரும் பொருத்தமான தேர்வு. அழுகை, பதற்றம், பயம் என்று கதாபாத்திரத்தை உள்வாங்கி நடித்திருக்கிறார் நிவேதா. பேபி எஸ்தர் மிக முக்கியமான கதாபாத்திரம். எந்த குறையும் இல்லாமல் நடிப்பில் மின்னியிருக்கிறார்.

ஐபிஎஸ் அதிகாரியாக நடித்திருக்கும் ஆஷா சரத்தும், அவரது கணவராக நடித்திருக்கும் ஆனந்த் மகாதேவனும் இயல்பான நடிப்பில் ஈர்க்கிறார்கள்.
பொறுப்பான அதிகாரியாக ஆதாரம் தேடும் போதும், மகனுக்காக தவிக்கும்போதும் ஆஷா சரத் அட போட வைக்கிறார். எஸ்.ஐ அருள்தாஸ், கான்ஸ்டபிள் கலாபவன் மணி, இளவரசு, எம்.எஸ். பாஸ்கர், டெல்லி கணேஷ், பசங்க ஸ்ரீராம் ஆகியோர் கேரக்டருக்கேற்ற நடிப்பை வழங்கியிருக்கிறார்கள்.

ஜிப்ரான் இசையில் இரண்டு பாடல்களும் இதம். சுஜித் வாசுதேவின் கேமரா இயற்கை அழகையும், பசுமையையும் அள்ளிக் காட்டுகிறது.
போலீஸ் விசாரணை, கமல் சொல்லும் பதில்கள், கிளைமாக்ஸ் என்று எல்லா இடங்களிலும் கை தட்டல்கள் அதிகம் கிடைத்தன. சமீபத்தில் வெளியான படங்களில் இடைவேளைக்குப் பிறகு அதிக கிளாப்ஸ் 'பாபநாசம்' படத்துக்குதான் கிடைத்திருக்கும் போல.

கமலை நெல்லை வட்டார வழக்கில் பேச வைத்திருக்கிறார் சுகா. அது எந்த விதத்திலும் குறையாகத் தோன்றவில்லை. மூன்று மணி நேரப் படம்தான் என்றாலும், அசலைப் போலவே அப்படியே சீட்டின் நுனியில் அமர்ந்து பார்க்கும் பரபரப்பு அனுபவத்தை தமிழ் ரசிகர்களுக்கு கடத்தியிருக்கிறது 'பாபநாசம்'.

குடும்பப் பின்னணியில் டிராமா த்ரில்லரை இவ்வளவு நேர்த்தியாக, இயல்பாக காட்சியப்படுத்தியதை ரசிகர்கள் வரவேற்றனர். படம் முடிந்து வெளியே வந்ததும் சூப்பர், எக்ஸ்ட்ரா ஆர்டினரி, எக்ஸலண்ட் வீடியோ பைட் கொடுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

கமல் இந்த மாதிரி நடிச்சா போதும். பார்த்துக்கிட்டே இருக்கலாம் என்று ஒருவர் சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். இதை யாராவது கமலுக்கு கொண்டு போய் சேர்க்கக் கடவது!

I would deem them both equal with respect to this movie. If you are to compare both as actors, then Kamal is ahead. There are certain things Kamal can do on screen that Mohanlal can't.

About 40% of the theatre was full. A friend of mine didn't like the movie that much. Thought it was too long for comfort.

They really shouldn't be compared. Not about this movie in particular (havent seen drishyam) - while Kamal is an actor par excellence, Mohanlal simply blends in naturally eliminating the need to act.

40% doesnt sound encouraging .. hopefully it picks up through the weekend.

agreed, he's not on par with some of our legends but certainly he's a very good method actor. while he does 50% commercials he also does 50% social films (art etc). if anyone doubt his acting credentials they should watch sathyagraga, rajneeti, company etc (the ones i watched). he acts at so ease..

In Bangalore, all the Drishyam version had run very well. (Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada). Only Tamil was pending. If any non-Tamil fan wants to watch, thats only for Kamal. Have to wait till the week end to get the clear picture.

I had great doubt about Gowtami and ananth mahadevan acting but both performed extremely well..
Asha sharath is great in original and good in papanasam ..Aasha,ananth being a non-tamilian delivered a lengthy dialogue portions superbly..
Kalabhavan mani as usual rocked and angered all the fans..Villaina apdi thaan irukanum..Nivedha Thomas,Esther anil everyone performed..

Ghibran music rocks..i am happy people started appreciating talent ghibran,even in this hub few appreciated his effort..His UV BGM and songs also superb but it didn't reach everyone and only few appreciated..
Kamal eyes,expressions were superb especially in 2nd half and in particular the last 30 minutes..

Hats off to Jeethu joseph for superb script and characterization..Papanasam is truly outstanding movie..

While following the twitters, I found an interesting thing about Vijay movie scenes and songs appearing in the movie. Vijay and Ajith fans fighting over this. I didn't notice anything in the movie. I noticed only Shivaji movies Paasa malar and Padikatha Medhai. May be due to my age and conditioning. The Kamal character contains character traits of both those movies. There is an Anjaan movie scene say for 2 seconds.

Just got back. Speechless! What a movie ... From someone who hasnt seen Drishyam, I would say I was lucky and in for a real treat. Seeing Nammavar in a role like this, something I was looking for - wow! Kudos to all and the captain, Jeetu Joseph. Gautami did a real nice job .. was apprehensive initially. K.Mani and Asha Sharath were ... well, menacing .. Anyways dont want to talk more.

Theater was about 95% full with just a couple of seats unoccupied - lot more than UV. Heaved a sigh of relief right there. Everybody around us enjoyed and I could see. Kamal fan or not, WOM is bound to get more .. and coming days should see that hopefully.

Wow. No. 1 in Bangalore in Bookmyshow which is based on the online booking. It's not ordinary feat considering the malayalam drishyam ran for 6 months and Kannada drishyam was super hit and Telugu Drishyam also had a good run in Bangalore. With Papanasam's massive release in Theatres (More theatres as well as More shows. Bigger than UV, I was not sure of the result. It's crazy the way released. Yesterday, when I went to PVR Forum Mall FDFS. The first show was 10:10 and the next is 11:00. Both the crowd was there simultaneously. There was a guy waiting outside with 20 tickets, when the hall door opened, he didn't come. When asked, he said he is for 11:00 AM show and waiting for friends. The ticket price in PVR is cool 320 Rs for all papanasam shows which start after 2:00 PM. Here, the ticket rate varies with each movie and timing. Don't blame me if it's down when you check, because, bookmyshow claims it's based on algorithm and real time. Yesterday, the Bookmyshow sent a mail saying that Papanasam is declared Super Hit. The mail came yesterday night. I don't remember receiving the mail for all the movies. The last one I got was for Jurassic World. No such mail for Terminator. So, I think it's not marketing technic.

பாபநாசம் சிறப்புக்காட்சி பார்த்தாகிவிட்டது. உத்தமவில்லனின் பாய்ச்சலுக்குப்பிறகு சுயம்புலிங்கத்தோடையும் ஒன்றமுடிகிறது. ஆரம்பக் காட்சி முதல், கடைசி வரை ஒரு சுயம்புலிங்கமாகவே தென்படும் கமல் திருநெல்வேலி உச்சரிப்பில் கட்டிப்போடுகிறார். ஒரு அடிப்படை ரசிகனாக வெகு நாட்களுக்கு அப்புறம் லுங்கி கட்டிய, வேட்டி கட்டிய, திருநீறு பூசிய, கோயில் வளாகத்தினுள் செல்லும் நடுத்தர வர்க்க பாத்திரத்தில் கமலின் உடல் மொழியை ரசிப்பதில் கொள்ளை ஆனந்தம். கமல் சொன்னதுபோல, மகாநதியின் இன்னொரு வடிவத்தைத்தான் பார்க்கிறோம் என்ற உணர்வு ஏற்பட்டது நிறைய இடங்களில்.

சுயம்புலிங்கத்தைத் தவிர மற்ற துணைப்பாத்திரங்களும் சிறப்பாக நெய்யப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன. குறிப்பாக ஆஷா சரத். துடுக்கான உச்சரிப்பில் எளிதாக ஸ்கோர் செய்தாலும், பேசாமல் நடிக்கும் அந்தக் கடைசிக் காட்சி சிறப்பு. தேர்ந்த நடிகையின் அத்தனை இலக்கணங்களையும் அந்த இறுதிக் காட்சியில் ஒரு சேரப் பெற்றுவிடுகிறார். ராணி வேடத்தில் கௌதமி அவரது திரைப் பயணத்தில் முக்கியமானதொரு மைல்கல்லை அடைந்திருக்கிறார். மூத்த மகளாக நிவேதாவிற்கு கண்கள் பேசுகிறது. உத்தமவில்லனில் சொக்குசெட்டி, பாபநாசத்தில் டீக்கடை பாய்.. எம்.எஸ்.பாஸ்கர் பச்சோந்தியாய் பாத்திரத்தில் ஐக்கியமாகி விடுகிறார்.

உத்தமவில்லனில் கூட, இளையராஜாவை நினைக்கவில்லை. ஆனால் பாபநாசம் போன்ற உருக்கமான, நெகிழ்வான உணர்வுப் போராட்டங்களுக்கு ராஜாவைத் தவிர வேறு யார் இசையை தகுந்தவிதத்தில் சமைக்கமுடியும்? பார்த்து முடித்து வெளியெ வந்தும் எத்தனைப் படங்களில் ராஜாவின் பின்னணி இசைத் துண்டு மனதில் ரீங்காரமிட்டுக் கொண்டெ இருந்திருக்கிறது! அதுபோன்ற ஒன்றை ஜிப்ரானால் அடைய முடியவில்லை. சுயம்புலிங்கம் - ராணி குடும்பம், ஆஷா சரத்- ஆனந்த் மகாதேவன் குடும்பம் என தனித்தனியே ஒருசில மெலடிகளை அமைத்து அதை படம் முழுதும் இம்ப்ரோவைஸ் செய்திருந்தால் அதன் வீச்சே வேறுமாதிரி இருந்திருக்கும்.

விசாரிக்கிறேன் பேர்வழி என காவலர் பாத்திரத்தில் கலாபவன் மணி சுயம்புலிங்கம்-ராணி குடும்பத்தை கொடுமைப்படைத்தும் காட்சிகள் ஓரளவிற்குமேல் பார்க்க திகட்டிவிடுகிறது. தணிக்கைக் குழு இதற்கெல்லாம் U சான்றிதழ் கொடுப்பார்களா!

படம் முழுக்க, ஜெயமோகனின் வசனங்களில் அங்கதம் பளிச்சிடுகிறது. மண்புழு, இயற்கை சுற்றுப்புறத்தை பேணுதல் போன்றவற்றை சுயம்புலிங்கம் எடுத்துரைக்கையில் ஜெயமோகன்.இன் கட்டுரைகள் பல நினைவில் வருகிறது.

ஜீத்து ஜோசப் இயக்குனாராக, திரைக்கதையாளாராக ஒரு விறுவிறுப்பான குற்றப் படைப்பை செதுக்கியிருக்கும் விதத்திற்கு பாராட்டுக்கள். இரண்டே இரண்டு பாடல்களை மட்டுமே அதுவும் கதையோட்டத்தை நகர்த்தும் விதமாக படமாக்கிக்கொண்டு மூன்று மணிநேரத்திற்கு இக்கதையை நகர்த்திக் காட்டியதற்கு எத்தனை முறை வேண்டுமானாலும் மெச்சலாம். இதே கதையை மிஷ்கின் ஒருவேளை இயக்கியிருப்பின் எல்லா பாத்திரங்களுக்கும் இதுபோன்ற நடிப்பை வெளிப்படுத்த களம் அமைக்கப்பட்டிருக்குமா என்பது சந்தேகம். பிள்ளைகளுக்கு தெரிந்திடப்போகிறது என சுயம்புவை ஜாடையால் ராணி எச்சரிப்பதை ஒருநொடியில் புரிந்துகொண்டு புன்முறுவல்பூக்கும் மூத்தமகள். ஸோ கியூட்.

சுயம்புலிங்கமாக கமலைத்தவிர வேறு ஒருவர் செய்திருந்தால் இந்த அளவு மேன்மை அடைந்திருக்குமா? பதில் இல்லை. ஆனால் கமல் இதுவரை கடந்துவந்திருக்கும் பாத்திரப் பயணங்களை அசைபோட்டால், பாபநாசம் அப்படியொன்றும் பெரிதாய் கவரவில்லை. பலவித சுவாரஸ்யங்களை தன்னகத்தைக் கொண்டு ஒவ்வொருமுறை பார்த்து பரவசப்படக் கூடிய அளவிற்கு பாபநாசம் அப்படியொரு ஆகச்சிறந்த படைப்பாகவும் தோன்றவில்லை. உத்தமவில்லன் பார்த்தபிறகு எழுந்த அடுத்த முறை எப்போது பார்ப்பது என்ற ஈர்ப்பு பாபநாசத்தில் எழவில்லை. பார்த்த ஒரே முறையிலேயே திருப்தி கிடைத்துவிட்டது. கதை, திரைக்கதையில் கமலை விஸ்வரூபமாக பலபடங்களில் தரிசித்துவிட்டதால் அப்படி ஒரு நிலையை உணர்கிறேன்.

பாபநாசத்தைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு த்ரிஷ்யத்தை கண்டுகளிக்கலாம் என முடிவெடுத்திருந்தேன். ஆனால் த்ரிஷ்யத்தை முழுதும் பார்க்க பொறுமை இருக்குமா எனத் தெரியல. அதனால, லால்-கமல் நடிப்பில் யார் சிறப்பு என்ற வட்டத்திற்குள் போகவில்லை.

திருநெல்வேலித் தமிழுக்கு, கலாச்சாரத்திற்கு ஒரு அடையாளமாக இப்படம். வழங்கிய ஜீத்து ஜோசப், கமல், ஜெயமோகனுக்கு நன்றி.

After the first half an hour when the various characters are established, the film gets into a thrilling roller-coaster mode. The next two-plus hours are when you have your heart perpetually parked in your mouth, as this hapless, middle class family goes through an unimaginable fate. The watertight script (except for one or two silly flaws) and robust execution gets you caught up in the emotional whirlpool along with Suyambulingam’s family.
