படம் முழுவதும் ஜொலிக்கும் மக்கள் திலகம் - உண்மையிலே இந்த படம் தமிழ் திரை பட வரலாற்றில் வைர மகுடம் .முழுக்க முழுக்க இது எம்ஜிஆர் என்ற நாயகனின் நவரச நடிப்பில்
இளமை துள்ளலில் , வீரத்தின் அடையாளமாக விளையாடும் வாள் வீச்சு - எதிரிகளை மன்னிக்கும்
மாண்பு என்று காண்போரின் உள்ளங்களில் நிரந்தரமாக குடியிருக்கும் எம்ஜிஆரின் ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் - திரு .சொக்கலிங்கத்திற்கு என்றென்றும் ஒரு அமுத சுரபி .

யாருமே செய்ய இயலாத ஒரு காரியத்தை திரு சொக்கலிங்கம் ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் மூலம் பல
அருமையான சாதனைகளை நிகழ்த்தியுள்ளார் . அவருக்கு பாராட்டுக்கள் .

இந்த நேரத்தில் திரு முக்தா ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் அவர்கள் 1976ல் கூறியதை நினைவு படுத்துகிறேன் .

1975ம் ஆண்டில் அதிகமாக கேளிக்கை வரி செலுத்திய ஒரே படம் இதயக்கனி தான் மற்ற நடிகர்களின் 25 படங்கள் பெறும் வசூலை எம்.ஜி.ஆர். நடித்த ஒரே படம் பெற்று விடுகிறது. எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அவர்கள் நடித்த சாதாரண படம் ஒன்று 50 லட்ச ரூபாயை வரியாக செலுத்துகின்றது என்றால் அவர் நடித்த பெரிய படம் 1 கோடி ரூபாயை வரியாகச் செலுத்துகிறது. இதயக்கனி படமும் அரசுக்கு 1 கோடி ரூபாய்க்கு மேல் வரி செலுத்தியுள்ளது.
இதன் படி சர்க்காருக்கு மிகச் சிறந்த நண்பராக இருப்பவர் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். தான். அதிகப்படியான வரி கொடுப்பதின் மூலம், அரசாங்கத்தை ஆதரிக்கும் மிகச் சிறந்த நண்பராக எம்.ஜி.ஆர். இருக்கிறார்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் படம் டிஜிட்டலில் புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டு மீண்டும் ரிலீஸ் செய்யப்பட்டு உள்ளது. இப்படம் சென்னையில் சத்யம், எஸ்கேப், ஆல்பர்ட் தியேட்டர்களில் 5–வது வாரமாக ஓடிக் கொண்டு இருக்கிறது. தற்போது வேளச்சேரியில் பினிக்ஸ் மாலில் புதிதாக திறக்கப்பட்டுள்ள லக்ஸ் சினிமாஸ் தியேட்டரிலும் ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் படம் திரையிடப்பட்டு உள்ளது.

இந்த தியேட்டரில் ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் படம் பார்க்க சினிமா பின்னணி பாடகி பி.சுசீலா வந்தார். அவருக்கு ரசிகர்கள் சால்வை அணிவித்து வரவேற்றனர்.

இந்த படத்தில் பி.சுசீலா ‘பருவம் எனது பாடல்’, ‘உன்னை நான் சந்தித்தேன்’, ‘ஆடாமல் ஆடுகிறேன்’போன்ற பாடல்களை பாடி இருக்கிறார். தியேட்டரில் உட்கார்ந்து கடைசிவரை படத்தை பார்த்தார்.

பிறகு வெளியே வந்த அவர் ஐம்பது வருடம் கழித்து இந்த படத்தை பார்க்கும் போது பெருமையாக இருக்கிறது. பழைய ஞாபகங்கள் வருகிறது. ஐம்பது வயது குறைந்தது போல் உணர்வும் வருகிறது. டிஜிட்டலில் பார்த்தது புது அனுபவமாக இருந்தது என்றார்.

இந்த படத்தை ரிலீஸ் செய்த திவ்யா பிலிம்ஸ் சொக்கலிங்கத்துக்கும் ரசிகர்கள் சால்வை அணிவித்தனர்.

சொக்கலிங்கம் கூறும் போது 34–வது நாளாக ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் ஓடிக்கொண்டு இருக்கிறது. இதன் 50–வது நாள் வெற்றி விழாவை சென்னையில் கொண்டாட திட்டமிட்டு உள்ளோம் என்றார்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் படம் டிஜிட்டலில் புதுப்பிக்கப்பட்டு மீண்டும் ரிலீஸ் செய்யப்பட்டு உள்ளது. இப்படம் சென்னையில் சத்யம், எஸ்கேப், ஆல்பர்ட் தியேட்டர்களில் 5–வது வாரமாக ஓடிக் கொண்டு இருக்கிறது. தற்போது வேளச்சேரியில் பினிக்ஸ் மாலில் புதிதாக திறக்கப்பட்டுள்ள லக்ஸ் சினிமாஸ் தியேட்டரிலும் ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் படம் திரையிடப்பட்டு உள்ளது.

இந்த தியேட்டரில் ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் படம் பார்க்க சினிமா பின்னணி பாடகி பி.சுசீலா வந்தார். அவருக்கு ரசிகர்கள் சால்வை அணிவித்து வரவேற்றனர்.

இந்த படத்தில் பி.சுசீலா ‘பருவம் எனது பாடல்’, ‘உன்னை நான் சந்தித்தேன்’, ‘ஆடாமல் ஆடுகிறேன்’, ‘ஞானமோ’ போன்ற பாடல்களை பாடி இருக்கிறார். தியேட்டரில் உட்கார்ந்து கடைசிவரை படத்தை பார்த்தார்.

பிறகு வெளியே வந்த அவர் ஐம்பது வருடம் கழித்து இந்த படத்தை பார்க்கும் போது பெருமையாக இருக்கிறது. பழைய ஞாபகங்கள் வருகிறது. ஐம்பது வயது குறைந்தது போல் உணர்வும் வருகிறது. டிஜிட்டலில் பார்த்தது புது அனுபவமாக இருந்தது என்றார்.

இந்த படத்தை ரிலீஸ் செய்த திவ்யா பிலிம்ஸ் சொக்கலிங்கத்துக்கும் ரசிகர்கள் சால்வை அணிவித்தனர்.

சொக்கலிங்கம் கூறும் போது 34–வது நாளாக ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன் ஓடிக்கொண்டு இருக்கிறது. இதன் 50–வது நாள் வெற்றி விழாவை சென்னையில் கொண்டாட திட்டமிட்டு உள்ளோம் என்றார்

The music of Santhanam's Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham was launched yesterday evening in a grand event at Chennai's Devi Cinemas. Directors Shankar and Rajamouli headed a big guest list which included Udhayanidhi Stalin among many others. Comedian Mayilsamy was also among the list of speakers at the launch and he made a mark with his frank talk. A small excerpt from his speech is as follows

"I particularly respect and love four people from the industry. They are MGR for the way he propagated good messages to society, Sathyaraj for his speaking skills, Ajith for his frank talk and handsome nature and finally Santhanam for being a good man"

Mayilsamy commended Santhanam for helping a lot of people without publicity and said that he made it a point to attend the launch to re-emphasize Santhanam's good qualities on a public platform.

வித்தியாசமான இரண்டு கதாபாத்திரங்களையும் ஏற்று, இயற்கையாக நடித்திருக்கிறார் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அசட்டுத்தனம், ஆவேசம், காதல், பாசம் அத்தனை உணர்ச்சிகளையும் கொட்டி நடிப்பதற்கு வைரக் கொள்ளைக்காரன் ரஞ்சித்தை விட பாண்ட் மாஸ்டர் சுந்தரத்துக்கு வாய்ப்புகள் அதிகம். இரண்டு பேரும் கடைசியில் மோதிக் கொள்ளும்போது பொறி பறக்கும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கிறோம். ஆனால், அலட்சியமாக அவர்கள் மோதிக் கொள்வது கூட கவர்ச்சியாகத்தான் இருக்கிறது. கொள்ளைக்காரன் யார் என்பதை நிரூபிக்கும் நீதிமன்ற கிளைமாக்ஸ் காட்சி, வேடிக்கையும் விறுவிறுப்பும் நிறைந்த நல்ல திருப்பம்.

லதாவுக்கும் மஞ்சுளாவுக்கும் மிதமான பாத்திரங்கள். நெருக்கமான காட்சிகளில் இருவருமே பின்வாங்கவில்லை. சி.ஐ.டி. அதிகாரியான மஞ்சுளாவின் மாத்திரை சமாசாரம் மணியான நகைச்சுவைக் கட்டம். சாரதாவிடம் பாசத்தைப் பிழிந்தெடுத்துத் தரும் துடிப்பான நடிப்பு! ‘ஊர்வசி’ நடிகையை இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் உபயோகித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கக் கூடாதா? நம்பியாருக்கும் அசோகனுக்கும் போலீஸ் அதிகாரிகளாகப் பொறுப்பு அளிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பது புதுமையாகத்தான் இருக்கிறது.
பாடல்களில் இனிமை ‘பூ மழை தூவு’கிறது. வெளிப்புறக் காட்சிகளைப் படமாக்குவதில் கேமரா வெகு கவர்ச்சியாக இயங்கியிருக்கிறது. டைரக்டர் நீலகண்டன் அவர்களின் சாமர்த்தியம் பல இடங்களில் பளிச்சிடுகிறது. சபாஷ்!

The differences in Hindi and Tamil version.

Ranjith in Hindi kills the doctor who has treated his gun shot wounds where as Ranjith in Tamil lets the doctor to leave his place alive. Ranjith is portrayed only as a thief and not a murderer.

In the final court scene, Ranjith is identified by Bhola's dog in Hindi version where as in Tamil version Ranjith convinces everybody that the dog is lying. He is finally trapped on seeing his mother lying dead and he reveals himself by exposing his love for mother.

Tamil version has a story why Ranjith has become a diamond thief with a small flashback in his childhood which is not in Hindi movie.

எம்.ஜி.ஆர் எனும் மாபெரும் விருட்சம்

தமிழ் சினிமா வரலாறு எழுதுதலில் இருவிதமான சிந்தனைப் பள்ளிகள் இருக்கின்றன. முதல் சிந்தனைப்பள்ளி தியோடர் பாஸ்கரனுடையது. தியோடர் பாஸ்கரன் தமிழ் சினிமா வரலாறு எழுதுதலில் முன்னோடி ஆளுமை. அவரது பார்வை தமிழ்ச் சினிமா காட்சிரூப ஊடகமாக வளராமல் போனதற்கான தமிழ் சமூகக் கலை வரலாற்றுக் காரணங்களையும், அரசியல் காரணங்களையும் விரித்துச் சொல்வதாகவே இருக்கிறது. வரலாற்றுரீதியில் தமிழ் சினிமாவில் பேச்சு, இசை போன்றவை பெரும் இடம், அதனோடு வேறு வேறு காலங்களில் தமிழ் சினிமா மொழியில் நேர்ந்து வந்திருக்கும் வடிவ மாற்றங்களையும் நுட்பங்களையும் அவர் அவதானித்துப் பதிவு செய்கிறார். தியோடர் பாஸ்கரன் முன்வைக்கிற காட்சிரூப சினிமாவை உருவாக்குவது எனும் தேடல் தமிழ் மொழியில் பிரச்சாரம் தவிர்ந்த யதார்த்த மொழி கொண்ட ஐரோப்பிய பாணி சினிமாவை, சமூக விமர்சன சினிமாவை, தமிழ் சூழலுக்கு ஏற்ற நவ யதார்த்த சினிமாவை உருவாக்குவது எனும் தேடலுடன் தொடர்பு பட்டது. வங்கத்திலும் கேரளத்திலும் எழுந்த சத்யஜித்ரே, அடூர் கோபாலகிருஷ்ணன் போன்றவர்கள் முன்வைத்த புதிய சினிமாவை தமிழிலும் விளைவது தொடர்பான தேடல் இது.

இன்னொரு சிந்தனைப் பள்ளியும் தமிழில் உண்டு. அது திராவிட இயக்கத்தவரின் பிரச்சார சினிமா என்பது அசலான மண்ணின் விளைச்சல் என்றும், அது காலத்தின் தேவை என்றும், அதற்கு இன்னும் பொருத்தம் இருக்கிறது என்றும், அனைத்து சினிமாவும் வியாபாரம்தான் என்றும் பார்க்கும் பார்வை. அதனோடு வங்கத்திலும் கேரளத்திலும் உருவான திரைப்படங்கள் வாழ்க்கையைச் சொல்லாத, தத்துவக் காவிகள் என்று சொல்லும் பார்வை இவர்களுடையது. திரைப்படத்திலும் திராவிட பார்ப்பனக் கூறுகளைப் பார்ப்பதுதோடு, ஜெயகாந்தனது திரைப்படங்களை பார்ப்பனியப் படங்களாகப்; பார்த்தும் - காட்சிமொழி சார்ந்து அல்லாது இதுவரைத்திய எழுத்துப் பிரதி சார்ந்து - இவர்கள் பிரதிசார்ந்த ஆய்வுக் கட்டுரைகள் எழுதுவார்கள். எம்.எஸ்.எஸ்.பாண்டியன், சுபகுணராஜன் போன்றோர் இந்தச் சிந்தனைப் பள்ளியைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள்.

தமிழ் சினிமா குறித்த இதுவரையிலான மேற்கத்திய ஆய்வுகளும் சரி, ஆங்கிலத்தில் வந்திருக்கும் ஆய்வுகளும் சரி இருவகையிலுமாகப் பெரும்பாலுமானவை திராவிட இயக்கப் பிரச்சாரத்துக்கும் தமிழ் சினிமாவுக்குமான உறவு குறித்ததாகவே இருக்கிறது. எம்.எஸ்.எஸ்.பாண்டியன் எம்.ஜி.ராமச்சந்திரன் குறித்தும் அவரது புனிதபிம்பம் குறித்து ஆய்வு செய்திருக்கிறார். ஏம்.ஜி.ஆர்.தான் விரும்பிவாறு, தன்னை முன்னிறுத்திக் கொள்ள, தனக்கான தமிழ் சினிமாவை உருவாக்கினார் என்பது அவரது பார்வை. திராவிட இயக்கத்தின் பிரச்சார பாணியைச் சுவீரித்துக் கொண்ட எம்.ஜி.ராமச்சந்திரன், அறிஞர் அண்ணா, கலைஞர். கருணாநிதி போன்றவர்களின் திராவிட இலட்;சியவாதத்தை முன்வைத்தவராக இல்;லாமல், தன்னை ஒரு புனிதபிம்பமாக முன்னிறுத்திக் கொண்டதொரு சினிமாவை உருவாக்கினார் என இப்பார்வையை விரித்துக் கொண்டு போகலாம்.

மார்க்சியரான கா.சிவத்தம்பி தமிழ் சினிமா வரலாறு எழுதுதலில் இருக்கும் இந்த இரு வேறு சிந்தனை வெளியில்தான் தனது கருத்துக்களை முன்வைக்கிறார். தமிழ் சினிமா காட்சிரூப ஊடகமாக ஏன் புரிந்து கொள்ளப்படவில்லை என்பதனை தியோடர் பாஸ்கரன் வழியிலேயே, தமிழ் நாடகத்திற்கும் தமிழ் திரைப்படத்திற்குமான தொடர்ச்சியை முன்வைத்து சிவத்தம்பி; விளக்குகிறார். மொழிவழிப்பட்ட வகையில் ஆங்கிலத்தில் அசையும் படம் (moving image) என அர்த்தம் தரும் சினிமா தமிழில் திரைப்படம், அதாவது அசையாத படச்சட்டகம் (still photo) எனவே புரிந்து கொள்ளப்பட்டது என்பதனையும் சிவத்தம்பி குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.

காட்சிரூப சினிமா, திராவிட இயக்கப் பிரச்சார சினிமா என்ற விவாத வெளியில் ஒரு மார்க்சியராக சிவத்தம்பி நுழைகிறபோது, அவர் பல்வேறு விடயங்களை எதிர்கொள்ள வேண்டியிருக்கிறது. அவரது கல்விப்புலம் சார்ந்த தொழில்முறையிலான நாடகம் குறித்த அறிவுடன் தமிழ்சினிமாவின் வளர்ச்சியைக் காட்சிரூப ஊடகம் எனும் அளவையுடன் அவர் ஒப்பிட்டு விவரிக்கிறார். சிவாஜிகணேசனின் பராசக்தி கால நாடக பாணி நடப்பின் துவக்கம் முதல், முதல் மரியாதை படத்தின் காட்ருபத்திற்கு ஒப்புக் கொடுத்துத் தன்னை மாற்றிக் கொண்ட அவரது பிற்கால நடிப்பு வரையிலாக அவருள் நேர்ந்த மாற்றம் வரையிலும் சிவத்தம்பி இதனை அவதானிக்கிறார்.

தமிழ்சினிமாவின் விசேஷமான பகுதியாக திரை இசைப் பாடல்களைக் குறிப்பிட்டு, தமிழ்க் கவிதை மரபுடன் அதனை அவர் இணைக்கிறார். தமிழ் சினிமாவின் வடிவம் தொடர்பான பிரச்சினையை அவர் திராவிட இயக்கத்தின் பிரச்சார நோக்குடன் இணைத்துப் பார்க்கிறார். தமிழ்ப் பண்பாட்டில் சினிமா என்பதனை, திராவிட இயக்கத்தவரால் வரையறை செய்யப்பட்ட தமிழ் பண்பாடு எனும் பகுத்தறிவு மற்றும் நாத்திக, எதிர் பார்ப்பனீய மரபின் பின்னணியில் ஆய்வுசெய்கிறார். பகுத்தறிவு மரபு - பக்தி மரபு என்பதற்கு இடையிலான முரண், சிறுதெய்வ வழிபாடாக பக்தி மரபு ஆனது பகுத்தறிவு மரபுக்கு விரோதமானது அல்ல, அது தமிழ்ப் பண்பாட்டின் ஒரு பகுதியாக நோக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்கிறார் கா.சிவத்தம்பி. திராவிட இயக்க பிரச்சார சினிமா முன்வைத்ததே தமிழ்ப் பண்பாடாக ஆகியிருந்த நிலைமையை கா.சிவத்தமபி விளக்குகிறார். வங்கத்திலும் கேரளத்திலும் நடந்த மாற்றங்களுக்கு மாறாக கம்யூனிஸ்ட்டுகள் அல்லாமல் தமிழகத்தில் திராவிட இயக்கத்தவர் எவ்வாறு தமிழ் சினிமாவைக் கைப்பற்றினார்கள் என்கிற பிரச்சினை குறித்தும் கா. சிவத்தம்பி குறிப்பிட்டுப் பேசவும் செய்கிறார்.

தமிழ்சினிமா வரலாறு குறித்த கா.சிவத்தம்பியின் கட்டுரைகளில் மிகப் பரபரப்பாகப் பேசப்பட்ட கட்டுரை எம்.ஜி.ராமச்சந்திரன் முதலமைச்சராக இருந்து தமிழகத்தில் நடத்திய உலகத் தமிழ் ஆராய்ச்சி மாநாட்டின்போது அவர் வாசிக்கவிருந்து தடுக்கப்பட்ட கட்டுரை. எம்.ஜி.ராமச்சந்திரனின் வளர்ச்சியும் எழுச்சியும் அவர் தமிழ் சினிமாவில் உருவாக்கிய புனிதபிம்ப சினிமாவையும் பற்றியது அக்கட்டுரை. கா.சிவத்தம்பி தமிழ் சினிமா குறித்து எழுதிய இறுதிக் கட்டுரையாக இருப்பது மணிரத்தினத்தின் சினிமாக்களை முன்வைத்து அவர் எழுதிய கட்டுரையாகும். திராவிட இயக்கக் கருத்தியலின் பின்னணி கொண்டு, தமிழ் சமூகத்தின் மீpதான தமிழ் சினிமாவின் பண்பாட்டுத் தாக்கத்தினை மதிப்பிடத் துவங்கிய கா.சிவத்தம்பியின் திரைப்பட விமர்சனப் பயணம் (1981 முதல் 2004 வரையிலும் எழுதப்பட்ட அவரது தமிழ்த் திரைப்படம் குறித்த கட்டுரைகளின் தொகுப்பு : தமிழ்ப் பண்பாட்டில் சினிமா : மக்கள் வெளியீடு : சென்னை-2004 : மறுபதிப்பு என்.சி.பி.ஹெச் : சென்னை - 2010) மணிரத்னத்தின் படங்களின் அரசியலையும் அழகியலையும் அவதானிப்பதுடன் (Filmmaker Maniratnam on Ethnic War : Being a Tamil and Sri Lankan : Arivaham. : Colombo : 2005) தனது பயணத்தை நிறுத்திக் கொண்டு விடுகிறது.

சிவத்தம்பி தமிழ் சினிமா ஆய்வுக்குச் செய்த பங்களிப்;பு எனத் திரும்பத்திரும்பச் சொல்லப்படுவது எம்.ஜி.ராமச்சந்திரன் குறித்த அவரது பார்வையாகும். எம்.ஜி.ராமச்சந்திரன் குறித்த கருணாநிதி சார்பு அல்லது பின்னாளைய திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழகச் சார்பு சினிமா விமர்சகர்களுக்கும், கம்யூனிஸ்ட் கட்சிகளின் விமர்சகர்களுக்கும் சிவத்தம்பியின் பார்வை மிக உவப்பானதாக இருந்தது. இன்னும் திராவிட அரசியலின் மிகப்பெரும் பங்களிப்பாக பகுத்தறிவு வழிப்பட்ட நாத்திகத்திற்கு மாற்றான நம்பிக்கையில் பயணித்தபடி, அண்ணா திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழகம் எனும் பெயரில் அந்த இயக்கத்தின் தொடர்ச்சியெனத் தமது அரசியல் கட்சியை எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.; முன்னிலைப்படுத்;திக்கொண்டதும், மரபான திராவிட இயக்கத்தவரின் சிந்தனைப் போக்கிற்கு ஒரு மிகப் பெரும் சவாலாகவும் அமைந்திருந்துது. திமுக சார்பாளர்கள், மார்க்சியர்கள், பெரியாரியர்கள் என அனைவரும்; எம்.ஜி. ராமச்சந்திரன் குறித்த சிவத்தம்பியின் பார்வையினை ஏற்பதிலுள்ள சமூகவியல் அரசியல் நிஜம் இதுதான்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆரை அடியொற்றி ரசிகர் மன்றங்களைப் பின்னாளைய அரசியல் பிரவேசத்தின் தற்கால அமைப்பாக உருவாக்க முனையும் தமிழ் சினிமா கதாநாயகர்களைக் குறித்த சமூகவியல் ஆய்வுக்கும் எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.நிச்சயமாகவே ஒரு துவக்கப் புள்ளியாகவே அமைகிறார். இந்த வகையிலும் எம்.ஜி.ராமச்சந்திரன் குறித்த சிவத்தம்பியின் பார்வை முக்கியமானதாக இருக்கிறது.

எம்.ஜி.ராமச்சந்திரன் குறித்த சிவத்தம்பியின் குறிப்பிட்ட கட்டுரை மிகப்பரவலாக அறியவந்ததற்கான அரசியல் காரணங்கள் அன்றும் இன்றும் என்றும் வலுவாகவே இருக்கின்றன. 1981 ஆம் ஆண்டு மதுரையில் நடந்த உலகத்தமிழ் மாநாட்;டில் சமர்ப்பிக்க சிவத்தம்பி எழுதிய ஆங்கிலக் கட்டுரை (The Tamil Film as a Medium of Political Communication : 1981) அரசியல் தொடர்பாடல் ஊடகமாகத் தமிழ் சினிமா எனப் பின்னாளில் தமிழில் மொழியாக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டு வெளியானது. இக்கட்டுரை எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.குறித்த ஒரு விமர்சனமாக ஆகிவிடும் எனும் பயம் காரணமாக மாநாட்டில் இக்கட்டுரையை வாசிக்க மாநாட்டு அமைப்பாளர்கள் மறுத்துவிட்டனர். எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.தன்னைப் பற்றிய எந்தக் குறிப்பும், அது பாராட்டாக இருந்தால் கூட அதனை விரும்பவில்லை என மாநாட்டுக் குழுவைச் சார்ந்த அருணாசலம் என்பவர் தன்னிடம் தெரிவித்ததாகச் சிவத்தம்பி குறிப்பிடுகிறார். இக்கட்டுரை அதனது ஆங்கில வடிவில் இந்தியக் கம்யூனிஸ்ட் கட்சி சார்பு அமைப்பான என்சிபிஎச் பதிப்பாகத் தனிநூலாக அப்போது வெளியானது. இப்பிரதியைப் படித்துக் கருத்துச் சொன்னவர்களில் ஈழமார்க்சியரான ஏ.ஜே. கனகரத்னாவும் ஒருவர் என்பதனை சிவத்தம்பி பதிவு செய்கிறார்.

இக்கட்டுரையில் பேசப்பட்ட பல்வேறு எம்.ஜி.ஆர். குறித்த பல்வேறுவிடயங்கள் பிற்பாடு பற்பல கல்வித்துறைசார் நூல்களில் தொடர்ந்து விவாதிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. எம்.எஸ்.எஸ். பாண்டியனது நூல் முதல் (Image Trap : 1992) செல்வராஜ் வேலாயுதம் பதிப்பித்த நூலிலுள்ள (Tamil Cinema : The Cultural Politics of India’s Other Film Industry : 2008) ஹார்ட் கிரேவ் மற்றும் ஸாரா டிக்கி வரை உள்ள கட்டுரைகளில் சிவத்தம்பியினது கட்டுரையின் பாதிப்புக்களை நாம் கணவியலும்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் படங்களில் சமூகத்தளைகளை மீறி தனிமனிதன் மேல்நிலைப்பாட்டை எய்தமுடியும் என்ற கருத்து மிகச் செப்பமாகப் பதிய வைக்கப்பெற்றது. அவர் சித்தரித்த பாத்திரங்களின் குணாம்சங்களைக் கொண்ட ஒருவராகவே அவர் போற்றப்பட்டார். இதனால், தமிழ்நாட்டின் நடுமட்டத்திற்குக் கீழ்வந்த சமூகப்படிநிலையினரிடையே அவர் ஒரு உதாரண புருஷராகவே போற்றப்பட்டார். தம் நிலையிலுள்ள ஒருவர் மேல்நிலை அடைந்ததாகவே அவர் உயர்ச்சியையும் புகழையும் அச்சமூகமட்டங்களைச் சேர்ந்தோர் நம்பினார்கள். இதனால் தன்னம்பிக்கையும் சுயவளர்ச்சி பற்றிய பிரக்ஞையுமுள்ள ஓர் இளைஞர் குழாம் தமிழ்நாட்டில் வளரத்தொடங்கியது. எம்.ஜி.ஆர். தனது கவர்ச்சியின் தளமாக, தமிழ் பற்றிய நிலைபாட்டினைக் கொள்ளவில்லை. இன்றும்கூட கலைஞர் கருணாநிதியோடு தொடர்புபுபுறுத்தப்படும் தமிழ்த்தன்மை எம்.ஜி.ஆரோடு பொறுத்திப் பார்க்கப்படுவதில்லை. அவருடைய அறைகூவல் நல்ல நேர்மையான மனிதன் பற்றியதாவே இருந்தது. இன்று அவர் இல்லாத நிலையிற் பார்க்கும்பொழுது அவரின் தொடர்பாற்றல் திறனால் அவர் தன்னைப் பற்றிய மதிப்பீட்டினை உயர்த்துவதற்கு ஏற்றவகையில் நடந்துகொண்ட ஒருவர் என்ற எண்ணமே மேலோங்கி நிற்கிறது. எம்.ஜி.ஆரை உண்மையில் திராவிட இயக்கச் சினிமாத்துறைச் செயற்பாட்டுச் சாதனைகளிலிருந்து நோக்காது, அதனைத் தளமாகக் கொண்டு வளர்ந்து தனக்கென ஓரிடத்தினை வகுத்துக்கொண்டார் என்றே கூறல் வேண்டும். மேலும்,அண்ணா கலைஞர் ஏற்படுத்திய தாக்கத்திலிருந்து வேறுபட்ட ஒரு சமூகத்தாக்கத்தையே இவர் ஏற்படுத்தினார் என்று கொள்ளல் வேண்டும் (தமிழ்ப் பண்பாட்டில் சினிமா : க.சிவத்தம்பி : பக்கம் 13) என 2004 ஆம் ஆண்டு வெளியான தமது நூலின் முதல் பதிப்பில், தமது எம்.ஜி.ஆர். குறித்த ஆதாரமான கட்டுரை எழுதப்பட்டு 24 ஆண்டுகளின் பின் அவரது பார்வையை மறுபடியும் மீளுறுதி செய்கிறார் சிவத்தம்பி.

இக்கட்டுரை குறித்து 2011 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் தமிழகத்தின் முக்கியமான தமிழ்த் திரைப்பட ஆய்வாளரும் கல்வியாளருமான சுந்தர் காளியோடு மதுரை பாபுவும் சேர்ந்து குறிப்பிடும்போது (திரைப்பட ஆய்வுகளுக்குப் பேராசிரியர் சிவத்தம்பியின் பங்களிப்பு : மதுரை பாபு-சுந்தர் காளி : காட்சிப் பிழை திரை : ஆகஸ்ட் 2011) தமிழ்த் திரைப்பட ஆய்வுகளுக்கான சிவத்தம்பியின் பெரும்; பங்களிப்பு என்பது திராவிட இயக்கத்திரைப்படங்கள் பற்றிப் பொதுவாகவும், எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.பற்றிக் குறிப்பாகவும் அவர் எழுதியுள்ளதேயாகும் எனக் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்கள்.

திராவிட இயக்கத் திரைப்படங்களும் எம்.ஜி.ஆரும் குறித்த ஆய்வுக்கு ஊடகச் சமூகவியல் (Media Sociology) பார்வையைப் பயன்படுத்தியிருப்பதாக சிவத்தம்பி குறிப்பிடுகிறார். திராவிட இயக்கப் படங்களோடு குறிப்பாக எம்.ஜி.ஆர். எனும் ஆளுமை குறித்துப் புரிந்துகொள்வதற்கு சிவத்தம்பி தேர்ந்து கொண்டிருந்த இப்பார்வை மிகுந்த அளவில் மட்டுப்படுத்தப்பட்டதும், குறையானதும் என்றே என்னால் கருத முடிகிறது. சினிமாவையும் வரலாற்றையும் - அதனை உலக அளவில் என்று கூட விரித்துக் கொள்ளலாம் - முன்வைத்து அரசியல் அதிகாரத்திற்கும் குறிப்பிட்டதொரு திரை ஆளுமைக்கும் உள்ள உறவை நாம் எம்.ஜி.ஆரை முன்வைத்துப் பேசுவதானால், எம்.ஜி.ஆர். போன்றதொரு ஆளுமையை நாம் அவருக்கு முன்னும் காணமுடியாது, பின்னும் காணமுடியாது. எம்.ஜி,ஆர். எனும் ஆளமையை பெரும் விருட்சமாகக் கொள்வோமானால், அந்த விருட்சத்தின் வேறு வேறு கிளைப் பண்புகள் கொண்டிருந்தவர்கள் எனவே நாம் திரைப்படத் திருஉருக்கள் எனச் சொல்லப்படுகிற கிளின்ட ஈஸ்ட்வுட் முதல், கறுப்பு எம்.ஜி.ஆர். எனத் தன்னைத் தானே கோரிக்கொள்கிற விஜயகாந்த் வரை நாம் மதிப்பிட முடியும் என நினைக்கிறேன்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். எனும் ஆளுமையைப் புரிந்து கொள்வதற்கு நாம் ஊடகச் சமூகவியலோடு பிரச்சாரமும் சமூக உளவியலும் ( Propaganda and Social Psychology) குறித்த அணுகுமுறையையும், ஸ்டாலின் முதல் சதாம் குசைன் மற்றும் மாவோ வரையிலுவுமான வரலாறும் தனிநபர் வழிபாடும் ( History and Personality Cult) போன்றன குறித்து அணுகுவதற்கான உளவியல் பார்வையையும் கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டும் எனவே நான் நினைக்கிறேன். சிவத்தம்பியும் சரி, சிவத்தம்பியை ஏற்று எம்.ஜி.ஆர். குறித்த அவர் பார்வையை வழி மொழிகிறவர்களும் சரி சொல்கிற, இன்று அவர் இல்லாத நிலையிற் பார்க்கும்பொழுது அவரின் தொடர்பாற்றல் திறனால் அவர் தன்னைப் பற்றிய மதிப்பீட்டினை உயர்த்துவதற்கு ஏற்றவகையில் நடந்துகொண்ட ஒருவர் என்ற எண்ணமே மேலோங்கி நிற்கிறது எனும் பார்வை எந்தவிதத்திலும் சமநிலை கொண்ட பார்வையாக இருக்கமுடியாது.

இந்த எனது ஆட்சேபத்திற்கான மூன்று வலுவான காரணங்களாக நான் கருதுவது பின்வருமாறு : 1. முதலாவதாக ஒரு ஆளுமையை ஏற்கும் மக்கள் கூட்டத்தின் மனநிலையில் செயல்படும் சமூக உளவியலை இங்கு நாம் குறைத்து மதிப்பிடுகிறோம். 2. இரண்டாவதாக அந்தக் குறிப்பிட்ட ஆளுமையின் உளவியல் உருவாக்கத்திற்கும் அவரது நடத்தைக்குமான உறவைவைத்து மதிப்பீடுகளுக்கு வந்து சேரும் வெகுமக்களையும் நாம் குறைத்து மதிப்பிடுகிறோம். 3. அனைத்துக்கும் மேலாக வரலாற்றில் தனிநபர் வகிக்கும் பாத்திரம் என்பதனை தனிநபர் உளவியலாக்கம் நீங்கிய புறநிலைப் பண்பு என மட்டுமே நாம் வரையறை செய்கிறோம்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆரைப் பொறுத்து தன்னைப் பற்றிய மதிப்பீட்டினை உயர்த்துவதற்கு ஏற்றவகையில் நடந்துகொண்ட ஒருவர் என்கிற மதிப்பீடு அவரைக் குறித்த கொச்சையான பார்வை என்றே நினைக்கிறேன். சிவத்தம்பியினது இந்தப் பார்வைக்காகவே திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழகச்சார்பு திரைப்பட விமர்சகர்களும், தமிழகத்தின் கம்யூனிஸ்ட் கட்சி சார்பாளர்களும் தத்தமது அரசியல் நோக்குகளுக்குச் சார்பாக இதனைக் கையாள்கிறார்கள் எனவே நான் கருதுகிறேன்.

பிறந்த நாட்டிலிருந்து வெளியேறிய ஒரு குடும்பத்தில் அயலகத்தில் பிறந்த ஒருவர், தமது ஏழாவது வயதில் மூன்றாம் நிலை படித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த வேளையில் கல்வி கற்க வசதியற்று படிப்பை நிறுத்தியவர், பட்டிணி என்ன என்பதையறிந்த வறுமையில் வாடிய ஒருவர், தாயினால் வளர்க்கப்பெற்ற அதனால் அவர்மீது அபரிமிதமான பரிவு கொண்ட ஒருவர், இரு மனைவியரையும் நோய்க்குப் பலி கொடுத்தவர், குடும்ப மரபுக்கு மாறாக பிறிதொருவர் மனைவியை மணந்து கொண்டவர், மரபு மீறிய பெண் உறவுகளை மேற் கொண்டவர், கருத்தியலினாலோ ஆழ்ந்த தத்துவப் பார்வைகளினாலோ வழிநடத்தப்படாத ஒருவர் என்பதுதான் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். குறித்த சித்திரம். எழுத்தாளர் க.நா.சுவின் பார்வையில் சொல்வதானால் அவர் ஆரிய பழமைவாதத்திற்கு மாற்றாக திராவிடப் பழமைவாதத்தை முன்வைத்தவர் (Quoted in M.G Ramachandran : My Blood Brother : Attar Chand : 1988). இன்னும் திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழகத்தின் பெண்கள் குறித்த பார்வைக்கும் எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் பெண்கள் குறித்த பார்வைக்கும் பெரிய வித்தியாசம் இல்லை. எந்த நிலப்பிரபுத்துவ அணுகுமுறையில் இருந்து வெளியேறுவதாக அவர்கள் கோரிக் கொண்டார்களோ அதே நிலப்பிரபுத்துவ மதிப்பீடுகளில்தான், பெண்களைப் பொறுத்து அவர்கள் சரணடைந்தார்கள்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் வறிய மற்றும் விளிம்பு நிலை மக்கள் மீதான பாசம் மற்றும் பரிவு என்பது வறுமையும் பட்டிணியும் குறித்துப் பட்டறிந்து பெற்ற அவர் அனுபவத்தில் இருந்துதான் உருவாகியது. அது அவரது வெள்ளந்தியான அரசியலிலும் திரைப்படங்களிலும் அவரது ஆட்சியின் கீழான சமூகத் திட்டங்களிலும் பிரதிபலித்தது. அவர் தயாரித்து இயக்கிய நாடோடி மன்னன் திரைப்படம் முன்வைத்த சமூகத் தி;ட்டங்கள் கம்யூனிஸ்ட் கட்சியின் அறிக்கையையொத்ததாக இருப்பதை எவுரும் இன்று அவதானிக்க முடியும். இதனை அவர் தேர்ந்த கருத்தியல் அடிப்படையிலிருந்தல்ல, தனது இயல்பான தேர்வுகளில் இருந்துதான் செய்கிறார். திரும்பத் திரும்ப பட்டுக்கோட்டை கல்யாணசுந்தரமும் அவரும் இணைந்தது தற்செயலானது இல்லை. அது திட்டமிட்ட நடவடிக்கை. தனிமனித வாழ்வில் தன்னலமறுப்பையும் தியாகத்தையும் போற்றிய தமிழக கம்யூனிஸ்ட், காங்கிரஸ், திராவிடத் தலைவர்கள் மீது பேரன்புகொண்டவர் அவர். அண்ணாதுரை, காமராஜ், ஜீவா மற்றும் கல்யாணசுந்தரம் போன்ற தலைவர்கள் மீதான அவரது பேரன்பு அவரது நடத்தைகளில் வெளிப்பட்டது. அவரது ஈகைக் குணம் என்பது வெறுமனே ஐதீகம் இல்லை. இன்று அனைத்தும் வெளிப்படையாகவும் ஸ்தூலமாகவும் இருக்கிறது. திரைப்படப் புகழைக் குடும்பச் சொத்தாக மாற்றுபவர்களாக ரஜினிகாந்த முதல், விஜயகாந்த ஈராக, விஜய் வரை இருக்கிறார்கள். எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அப்படியானவராக இருக்கவில்லை.

வறிய மக்களிடம் அவர் அன்பு காட்டினார். தாம் நம்பியவற்றுக்கென அவர் அள்ளிக் கொடுத்தார். மரபான பழமையான பெண்மையைப் போற்றினார். அவரது திரைப்படம் - வாழ்வு - நடத்தை என்பதற்கு இடையிலான இடைவெளி, அவர் காலத்திய பிற அரசியல் தலைவர்களோடும் நடிகர்களோடும், ஏன் இன்றைய அரசியல் தலைவர்களோடும் நடிகர்களோடும் ஒப்பிட முன்னுதாரணம் இல்லாதது. அவரது திரைப்படங்கள் வெற்றிபெற்றதிலும், அவர் மக்கள் மனங்களில் கோலோட்சியதிலும் இவையணைத்தும் மிகப்பேரும் பங்காற்றின. சிவத்தம்பி மிகச் சரியாக மதிப்பிடுவது போல, மார்க்சியர்கள் போல திராவிட மரபினருக்கு பொருhளதாரச்; சுரண்டல் குறித்த அரசியல் பார்வை இல்லை. என்றாலும், இதிலிருந்து வெளிப்பட்ட கருணாநிதி குழுமம் வந்து அடைந்திருக்கும் அவல இடமும் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் பெற்ற இடமும் ஒன்றேயானது இல்லை.

ஈழவிடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திலும் ஈழவிடுதலையிலும் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். கொண்டிருந்த ஈடுபாடு எவரும் அறியாதது. அவரது கடப்பாடும் ஈகைக் குணமும் வெளிப்பட்ட தருணம் குறித்து தனது நூலில் ( விடுதலை : எம்.ஜி.ஆரும் புலிகளும்: விடுதலைக்குவித்திட்ட மாமனிதர் : அன்டன் பாலசிங்கம் : 2003) அன்டன் பாலசிங்கம் விரிவாக எழுதுகிறார். விடுதலைப் புலிகளுக்குத் தமிழக அரசின் சார்பாக நிதி கொடுப்பது தொடர்பான செய்தி வெளியானபோது ஜெயவரத்தனாவும் அவரது தூண்டுதலின் பேரில் ராஜீவ்காந்தியும் அதனைத் தடுக்கிறார்கள். ராஜீவ்காந்தியையும் மீறி ஆறு கோடி ரூபாய் வரையிலான உதவியை எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.தனது சொந்தப்பணத்திலிருந்து விடுதலைப் புலிகளுக்குத் தருகிறார். அன்றிருந்த இந்திய அரசியலில் சூழலில் இந்தச் செயலின் பின் விளவுகளின் பாரதூரத்தன்மையை எவரும் அறிய முடியும்.

விடுதலைப் புலிகள்-விடுதலைப்புலிகள் அல்லாதவர்கள் எனும் அரசியல் நிiலாட்டில் இருந்து பார்க்கிறவர்கள் எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் இந்தச் செயல்பாட்டை எவ்வாறும் விமர்சிக்கலாம். ஆனால், ஈழுமக்களின் விடுதலையிலும், அதில்; விடுதலையில் விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் ஈடுபாட்டையும் நம்பி; அவர் அள்ளிக் கொடுத்த ஈகத்தின் பின்னிருந்த தனிமனித தார்மீக அறத்தை எவரும் சந்தேகிக்க முடியாது. எம்.ஜி,ஆர் உலக விடுதலைப் போராட்டங்களைக் கரைத்துக் குடித்தவர் இல்லை. ஆனால், தனது மனதுக்கு அருகிலான ஈழமக்கள் மீட்சி பெற வேண்டும் என விரும்பிய மனிதர் அவர். இன்று அவர் இல்லாத நிலையிற் பார்க்கும்பொழுது அவரின் தொடர்பாற்றல் திறனால் அவர் தன்னைப் பற்றிய மதிப்பீட்டினை உயர்த்துவதற்கு ஏற்றவகையில் நடந்துகொண்ட ஒருவர் என்ற எண்ணமே மேலோங்கி நிற்கிறது என்று, பாலசிங்கத்தின் நூல் வெளியாகிய 2003 ஆம் ஆண்டின் பின்பாக, 2004 ஆம் ஆண்டிலும் சிவத்தம்பி எழுதுவாரானால், அவரது பார்வை முழுமையான ஆய்வுப் பார்வை இல்லை என்றுதான் நாம் முடிவுக்கு வரமுடியும்.

தமிழகக் கலாச்சார வரலாற்றிலும் திரை வரலாற்றிலும் எம்.ஜி. ஆர் என்பது ஒரு தனித்த நிகழ்வு. திரைப்படம் - வாழ்வு - தனிநபர் உளவியல் - பிரச்சாரம் - விடுதலை உணர்வு - அரசியல் அதிகாரம் - சமூக உளவியல் என அனைத்தும் தழுவி விவாதிக்க வேண்டிய ஒரு நிகழ்வு இது. ரசிகர்கள் மன்றங்கள் - திரைப்படத்தின் வழி கதாநாயகன் விதைக்கும் பிரமைகள் - கதாநாயகனின் எதிர்கால அரசியல் ஆசைகள் என்பனவற்றுக்கான உறவுகள் குறித்த ஆய்வுக்கு எம்.ஜி.ஆர் குறித்த சமூகவியல் ஆய்வு ஒரு கருவியாக இருக்கலாம், இருக்கிறது, இனி மேலும் இருக்கும். ஆனால் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் எனும் தன்னேரில்லாத நிகழ்வைப் புரிந்துகொள்ள இந்த ஆய்வுக் கருவி போதாது. குறிப்பாக சிவத்தம்பி முன்வைத்த ஊடகச் சமூகவியல் பார்வை நிச்சயமாகப் போதுமானது இல்லை.

ஓரு ஆளுமையாக எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் தனிநபர் உளவியல் உருவாக்கமும், அவரை ஏற்றவர்களாக குறிப்பிட்ட வெகுமக்கள் குறித்த, அவர்களது சமூக உளவியலாக்கமும் குறித்த பன்மைத்துவக் கருவியே மிகச் சிறந்த கருவியாக இருக்க முடியும். அதற்கான அடிப்படையை மாரக்சீய உளவியல் அணுகுமுறை தருகிறது எனவே நான் கருதுகிறேன். எம்.ஜி.ராமச்சந்திரன் குறித்த சமநிலையிலான ஆய்வு என்பது, நவீன ஆய்வுக் கருவிகளின் அடிப்படையில் தமிழ் மொழியில் இதுவரை இல்லை என்பதனை என்னால் திட்டவட்டமாகச் சொல்லமுடியும். மிகச் சமீப எதிர்காலத்தில் அதற்கான சாத்தியம் இருக்கிறது- courtesy face book

I wish to convey my opinion / view on the above article.

While there is no doubt that IdayaKani had a Grand Run, The details that was comfortably forgotten either in deliberate or by not knowing the fact by Mr.Muktha Srinivasan was in 1975, Nadigar Thilagam's 175th Film Avan Dhaan Manidhan ran over 100 days in the following centers : Chennai(3), Madurai, Trichy, & Salem. Therefore, his statement "No other film ran 100 days in other centers was totally WRONG" and misleading at that point in time !

Also, in 1975 going by logic, 25 feature films Total Tax contribution will be approximately 650% more than any ONE good run film. The only probability of the Vice Versa happening is all the 25 films being lifted in just 2 days of its run.

Going by the above statistics too, the total tax amount of 7 Films will definitely be more than the total tax amount of 4 Films.

The Tax Contribution of Nadigar Thilagam Films (since 1953) year on year should be more obviously because of the number of films getting released was more..!

One interesting statistics is that Out of that 4 Films that ran 100 days in 1975 as claimed by Mr.Muktha Srinivasan, 2 Films were Nadigar Thilagam's too ! Avan Dhaan Manidhan, his 175th Film had a great run in Chennai, Madurai, Trichy & Salem - All key centers apart from other 2 centers in Srilanka. and Mannavan Vandhaanadi 176th Film celebrated 100 days in Shanthi, Crown & Bhuvaneswari of Chennai.


Out of 7 Films, Other than his Vaira Nenjam, all 6 Films had 50 days run in Tamilnadu. This itself was a remarkable and outstanding achievement of him going by the situation prevailing at that time especially during the unfortunate demise of Karma Veerar Kamarajar !

If one was to walk through the street of Subburayalu Nagar in Cuddalore, one cannot miss a small house, where a washerman is seen ironing, and the wall opposite him bedecked with posters of the actor and former chief minister M G Ramachandran.

Mani (61), a diehard fan of MGR since his childhood, covered the walls of his small shop with posters that he cut out from monthly magazines Idhayakani and Urimaikkural. Despite being illiterate, he has been regularly subscribing to the magazines for several years.

If any of the pictures fade or starts pealing off the wall, he immediately replaces it with a new one.

Mani said, “Since I was 11, I have been engaged in the business of washing and ironing clothes. Earlier, I used to earn less than a rupee per day, but I never missed any of MGR’s movies. Those days, I used to spend almost all my earnings on MGR movies. MGR is everything to me.”

On being asked the reason for pasting the numerous MGR portraits on his work area wall, Mani said,

“MGR’s pictures motivate me. If I feel tired while ironing, I look at Vathiyaars’ pictures on the wall and I get encouraged to continue my work energetically. When I look at his face, I have a sense of happiness. I do not know how to read and write, but I buy these two MGR magazines every month without fail.”

His wife Vijaya said, “My husband is such a huge fan of MGR that once when a customer, accidentally tore off one of the pictures pasted on the wall, he got angry and scolded him. Besides, he refused to accept the customer’s clothes.”

“Twenty eight years ago, MGR came to Cuddalore and distributed land pattas to our community (dhobi) people. A total of 31 persons were given lands by him. I was one among the three persons to get the land pattas directly from his hands. Each person was given 3.5 cent of land at Kuppagkulam. After that I saw him in Cuddalore three times during public meetings,” he added.

Even today at 10 pm, after he finishes work, Mani listens to songs of MGR on his radio or watches movies of MGR on the TV, a habit which has not left him from his younger days.

He was the original superstar of Tamil films. He was a superstar long before the title was bestowed in Tamil Nadu for Rajnikanth. What is more amazing is that this man who came to dominate Tamil cinema and politics was not even a Tamilian but a Malayalee born in Ceylon (as it was known then). His rise and success in Tamil cinema and politics best exemplifies the generosity of Tamil Nadu and Tamilians towards non-Tamils: “Ellaraiyum Vaazha Vaikum Tamil Nadu.” (Tamil Nadu allows everyone to make a living).

His death made international news. His funeral was one of the largest in the world where over 2 million people thronged to Chennai from all over Tamil Nadu. Twenty four years after his death in 1987, his influence and image still looms large over Tamil Nadu politics and cinema. In Malaysia, his fan clubs still function actively and hold charitable events in his name.

During his lifetime he was awarded many titles by his fans and followers: Puratchi Nadigar, Makkal Thilakam, Ponmana Chemmal, Vathiyar etc…but to Tamilians and fans of Tamil movies all over the world he was known by three alphabets – MGR.

This January 17th would be his 94th birthday. This article is not about his life and many achievements. I would like to instead highlight MGR’s genius in using the medium of cinema to carve his large than life imagine. In this day and age of 24 hour cable TV where politicians especially in the US rely on image consultants, publicists, stylists etc to create the “right” image for the public, I would like to point out how MGR was doing this already on his own from the mid 1950s onwards and how his influence is still felt in Tamil movies today. In many ways he also brought changes to Tamil movies where its real effect would not be seen until much later.

Creating the MGR image

One of the turning points in MGR’s life and Tamil Nadu politics was when he joined Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in 1953. I am not sure whether MGR was the first actor to join a political party in India but he certainly was the first to show how an actor with a commanding screen presence can enhance a party’s image, draw in the crowd and add a dash of glamour.

Both DMK and MGR benefited from this marriage. MGR was deeply involved in crafting his image and tying it with DMK’s message. He would listen to the lyrics, suggest how he wanted it worded, (of course he was helped in this by legendary Tamil lyrists as Kannadasan, Vaali, Pattukottai Kalyanasundram etc) pay special attention to his costumes (he made sure the DMK colors of black and red were prominently displayed especially in his color films) -- can anyone forget the black shirt he wore when he sang Naan Anaiittal in Enga Veetu Pillai? In color films he made sure to wear colors that showed off his fair skin to its best so much so some colors like a combination of red pants with white shirt or white pants and yellow shirt – in short any combination of two powerful contrasting colors came to be known as MGR colors.

MGR never smoked or drank in his movies, had great respect for mothers and women and always played the underdog – the fisherman, a rickshaw rider, a goat herd etc but with one difference: no matter how menial the job, he was always educated. He pushed forward the message the importance of education in uplifting a person’s life.

Consolidating his power base

Besides his magnetic screen presence, he also knew how to get his people organized. He made effective use of his fan clubs to do social service and act as his publicists. His constant portrayal as an ordinary worker who could take on the rich and powerful made him an idol to millions of poor people in Tamil Nadu and NRI Tamils. He was truly the first mass hero. He also demonstrated what power a person can wield when he becomes a darling of the masses.

Whatever the critics may think of MGR’s tenure as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the fact is that common people loved him and believed in him. Some like the writer MSS Pandian in his book, `The Image Trap: M. G Ramachandran in Film and Politics” (1992, Sage Publications India Pvt Ltd, New Delhi – available in Amazon.com) take a very critical view of MGR’s rise in cinema and politics and pin point it to his savvy use of the screen image that tapped into the poor people’s unconscious desires, to hoodwink the people. Pandian does to a point argue his case well. But he fails to mention how and why MGR throughout his life (and after) was held in very high esteem by the public. He was the CM from 1977 to 1987 and his emotional power on the people was unbroken. Even when he was stuck down with a paralytic stroke in 1984 and could not campaign for the elections, he was elected to office. In an issue of Kumudham (29.12.10) the magazine quotes an interesting anecdote by K.B Ramakrishnan, who was MGR’s secretary for 30 years. Apparently during 1986 Aruppukotai by elections, MGR came to campaign for his party AIADMK. He was in ill health and had difficulty speaking in front of the mike. The thousands of people who had turned up to hear him speak had tears in their eyes when they saw their hero struggling to speak (due to the stroke). They shouted in unison, ‘You don’t have to speak Thalaiva; seeing you is good enough’. Ramakrishnan said, “Hearing this, MGR was moved to tears and cried. All this [outpouring of love and devotion] could only be marshaled in Tamil Nadu politics only by MGR.”

If only his screen image as a movie star was his reason for his rise in politics, as Pandian argues in his book, how come other legendary actors in Tamil cinema like Sivaji Ganesan could hardly make a dent in local politics? MGR’s success as CM then prompted a new era in Tamil Nadu and Indian politics where film stars entered politics. Some like NTR in Andhra Pradesh also found success whereas others like Amitabh Bachchan did not. Even now in Tamil Nadu politics movie stars like Vijayakanth – who has been styled by his fans as the Black MGR --, Sarath Kumar etc have not enjoyed the success that MGR had in politics despite having a larger than life screen presence. The question in Tamil Nadu politics is which actor will be the next MGR in politics? Will it be Vijay? The closest person who comes near to the kind of demi-god idolatry enjoyed by MGR in Tamil Nadu today is Rajnikanth. But in his case it seems his fans are the ones who want him to join he politics rather than the superstar himself who looks as though he would much prefer to do his charitable works in private and retreat to Kailash for a couple of months each year.

MGR the star creator

MGR is also responsible for launching the careers of some of the legendary heroines in Tamil cinema namely Saroja Devi and Jayalalitha. Although he was not the one who discovered them, by approving them to be his heroines, they became big stars overnight. Saroja Devi has said in interviews that after MGR booked her as his heroine in Nadodi Mannan, overnight she had 30 offers from other Tamil producers. Other actresses whose careers are closely tied to MGR are Manjula and Lata.

MGR was also responsible for boosting the career of lyrists Vaali after he had a fall out with Kannadasan over political issues. MGR was not afraid to give chances to new comers. He was ably ‘voiced over’ in songs by TM Sounderarajan so much that TMS was the voice for MGR (and Sivaji). At a time when it was unthinkable to have another singer sing for MGR, MGR OKed the choice of an unknown Telugu singer to sing for him. The song Aayiram Nilave Vaa eventually won the singer a National Award. The singer is SP Balasubramaniam! When Yesudass, who was already a legendary singer in Malayalam films wanted to break into Tamil films, he asked MGR for a chance. The result was Thanga Thoniyile for Ulagam Suttrum Valiban (SPB also has a song in that movie – Aval Oru Navarasa Naadagam). When Yesudass was facing a slump in his career in Tamil movies, again it was an MGR movie, Urimai Kural and the song Vizhiye Kadhai Ezudhu that boosted his popularity again as a play back singer.


MGR – the Shankar of his day

Long before Shankar came to define Tamil films with his big budgeted, high tech and stylish Tamil movies; MGR could be considered a pioneer in this field. MGR’s first directorial venture, Nadodi Mannan, was a big budget bonanza in those days. Although a black and white film, there was one song sequence in that movie with Saroja Devi which was in color. The film was blockbuster.

His next venture, Adimai Penn was also one of the most expensive movies of its time and was shot in never before seen locations for a Tamil movie. Again, it was another blockbuster. But the biggest one of them all was Ulagam Suttrum Valiban (USV) shot in locations in Kashmir, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Japan – totally unheard of for a Tamil film back then and which predated Shankar’s Jeans (and its many locations) by 24 years. USV also has the distinction of being the first Tamil movie which was subtitled in English for the Malaysian and Singapore market so that non-Tamils could see it. It would be 40 years later before Tamil films with English subtitles would make their presence felt again in this part of the world.

MGR introduces non-Tamil speaking actresses

In USV, MGR introduced a Thai actress Medha to Tamil audiences. Then in 1975 he invited Hindi actress Radha Saluja to be his heroine for the movie Idhaya Kani. Both Medha and Radha Saluja did not speak Tamil and their voices were dubbed. At that time the Tamil audiences looked upon these two actresses especially Radha Saluja with curiosity as she was not able to speak Tamil and have to resort to someone else dub for her.

MGR seemed to have recognized the merits and attraction of north Indian beauties for the Tamil audience especially men: their fair skin, sexy body and lack of inhibitions compared to south Indian actresses. Radha Saluja eventually disappeared from Tamil films. But who would have guessed that one day north Indian actresses with dubbed voices (because they could not speak the language) would rule the roost in Tamil films as proved by Nagma, Jyothika, Simran, Tamannah, Shriya and gang? In fact according to Behindwoods list of 10 top actresses in 2010, only Asin and Priyamani in that list use their own voice to dub (and they are not even Tamils!) The others including the only Tamizhachi in the list, Trisha (so far in her 10 year career in Tamil films she has dubbed in her own voice for only 3 movies) use only dubbed voices!

MGR’s influence and the changes he brought to Tamil cinema and politics are still being felt directly and indirectly today. He certainly was one of a kind and one doubts whether we will actually see another person like him with his sway over the Tamil people all over the world. He was a genius who controlled his image and his message to the people via a visual medium long before others in India realized how powerful cinema could be (nowadays its either TV or internet). His enemies can call him whatever they want but for his fans (and I am one) he will always be the Vadhiyar who taught us right and wrong and told people that they can stand up for their rights.

சார்...அப்படி பார்த்தால் நேற்று முன்தினம் அரிமா நம்பி திரைப்பட பாடல் வெளியீட்டு விழாவில் கூட விக்ரம் பிரபு வை வைத்து படம் எடுக்காத பாலச்சந்தர், இசை அமைக்காத MSV , பாடாத SPB , இயக்காத SAC .. இப்படி பலர் வந்து புகழ கண்டேன் ...இதெல்லாம் ஒரு விஷயாம சார் ? இவர்கள் அனைவரையும் மதிப்பு கொடுத்து அழைத்தார்கள் ..அவர்களும் மரியாதை நிமித்தம் கருதி அழைப்புக்கு மதிப்பு கொடுத்து வந்தார்கள் ..இதை உலக வரலாற்றில் முதல் முறை என்று கூற முடியுமா சார் ?

3. வெள்ளிவிழா படம் ஓடும் திரை அரங்கின் கட்டணம் குறைந்த கட்டணமாக இருந்து...100 நாள் திரைப்படம் ஓடும் திரை அரங்கின் கட்டணம் அதிகமாக இருக்கும் பட்சத்தில் !

வேறு காரணம் இருக்க முடியுமா என்பதை LOGIC அறிந்தவர்கள் கூறினால் நன்றாக இருக்கும் !

அவர் கூறியதற்கு யாரும் பொறுப்பல்ல என்பது வாஸ்தவம்.

காரணம் உண்மையல்லாத உணர்சிமிகுதியால் புள்ளிவிவரம் என்ற தப்பும் தவறுமாக உரைக்கும் கற்பனைக்கு திரை உலகம் இதழ் மட்டும் அல்ல ...திரை உலகத்தில் உள்ள இல்லாத அனைத்து இதழ்களும் பொறுப்பேற்கமுடியாது என்பதில் எள்ளளவும் சந்தேகம் இல்லை.

அதேபோல அப்படி பொறுப்பேற்க முடியாத விஷயம் உண்மை என்றும் ஏற்றுகொள்ள முடியாது !

He was never afraid to give chance to many new comers. The argument that he did not give chance to some young actor, as being said by some persons without knowledge, is nothing but nonsense. He never wanted the upcoming actors to be overshadowed by him, his performance and his everlasting popularity.

From inside a small brown suitcase, MGR reigns over E. Parameswaran, a diehard fan's life and the decisions he makes to this day.

In the movie hall, people have to plead with him to be silent, as he will shout out each dialogue, a minute before it is delivered on screen. But he can’t help it, says E. Parameswaran, also known as an encyclopaedia on MGR. From the names of directors, scriptwriters and lyrics of songs to dialogues, costume, and even the kind of shoes the star wore, he knows every little detail about MGR.

With folded hands he bows to a black-and-white photo of a dashing MGR, with a vermillion dot on the forehead, that is hung on the walls of his living room, next to the photos of his parents. “He is the only reason why I became successful in life. If you watch his film, you will learn about how to look after your family, and maintain good relations with people around you.”

Watching Parameswaran delivering MGR’s dialogues is quite an experience. He sits up straight, raises his head a little and launches into a dialogue of the star from Mattukkara Velan. It is from the scene where Raghu, played by MGR, tells his mother that a man can buy rewards and gifts but can never buy a mother. Parameswaran’s eyes well up and his voice quivers as he says these lines. “This scene always makes me cry. The love and respect that he shows his mother in his films, is what attracted me to him.”

His love for the star does not stop with his films. Soon, he is all ready to imitate MGR, the leader. He clears his throat, holds a pretend mic and thunders, “En rathathin rathamana udan pirappukkale…” Parameswaran, who has attended most of MGR’s rallies, knows his speeches by heart. “When there are issues in the family, I quote from his speeches and films. It is even said that if you see his films there will be no family fights.”

Precious possession

Perhaps his most treasured belonging is a brown suitcase. In it are Parameswaran’s collection of stills from MGR films, the actor’s cut-outs from newspapers and magazines and several editions of Idayakkani — an exclusive magazine on MGR, his films and personal life.

As he neatly lays down each CD on the floor, careful not to step on them, he bursts into songs and shares trivia of each film. “This film is Nam Naadu. Haven’t you heard the song, Vaangayya Vaadiyaarayya? MGR looks so good in this with his shirt tucked in! I have the CDs of all the 136 films he acted in. These are my life. When I die, I want them to be buried with me.”

Parameswaran also has a stack of cut-outs of just MGR’s head. Just by looking at the wig worn by the actor, Parameswaran can identify the film. “Every wig is special and unique to the film. I also note his costumes. In the film, Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban, he wore 65 costumes. And, no one looks as good as him with glares. If you give me his picture, I can go on looking at it for hours, without food or water.”

His two sons have gifted him a TV and DVD player and given him a separate room so that he can watch the films in peace. Every day, he watches at least one film of MGR, but only after finishing work at the sugar mill where he works as a security guard. That is because, “MGR always says you come to the theatre to watch me only after finishing your work.”

Parameswaran does not take kindly to anyone who does not love MGR as much as he does. That includes his wife and children, too. Thirty years ago, he took his newly-wed wife to watch an MGR film. And was terribly offended when she said she did not like the movie all that much. “That was the last time I took her for a film.”

When MGR passed away in 1987, his mother and wife had to lock him in his room. “I was about to end my life. However, I remembered what MGR used to say, ‘You do not go after death until it comes to you.’ That stopped me from killing myself.” Every year, on MGR’s death anniversary, he visits his Samadhi. “MGR can never die. He is not just an actor. He comes alive on screen and talks to people like me. For us, it is not just a film that ends in three hours. It is life and he is our Thalaivar.”

சில மாதங்களுக்கு முன் புரட்சித் தலைவரின் இந்தப் படத்தைப் பதிவேற்றம் செய்து இதனை வரைந்த ஓவியர் பற்றிய விவரங்கள் தெரிந்தால் தெரிவிக்கும் படி கேட்டிருந்தேன். மக்கள் திலகம் அவர்களுக்கு இந்தப் படத்தை அதைவரைந்த ஓவியர் அவர்களே பரிசளித்தார் என்றும் அதனைப் பார்த்துப் பிரமித்துப் போன எம்.ஜி.ஆர். தனது தாயாரின் படத்தை வரைந்து கொடுக்கும் படி கேட்டுக் கொண்டார் என்றும் அவரது கோரிக்கையை ஓவியர் நிறைவேற்றினார் என்றும் வெகு நாட்களுக்கு முன் பத்திரிக்கையில் படித்திருந்தேன். அதை பாதுகாப்பாகவும் வைத்திருந்தேன். ஆனால் சில காரணங்களால் அந்தப் பத்திரிக்கை தொகுப்பு என் கையை விட்டுச் சென்று விட்டது. அதுபற்றிய விவரங்கள் வேறு யாரிடமிருந்தாவது கிடைக்கும் என்ற நம்பிக்கையில் அதனை இத்திரியில் பதிவு செய்திருந்தேன். தற்போது இணையதளத்தின் மூலமாக அதுபற்றிய செய்திகள் கிடைக்கப்பெறவே அதனை இங்கு பதிவு செய்கிறேன்.

இந்த அற்புதமான ஓவியத்தை வரைந்தவர் ஓவிய மேதை திரு.கருப்பைய்யா அவர்கள். புரட்சித் தலைவர் நாற்காலியில் அமர்ந்திருப்பது போலவும் அவருக்கு மேல் அறிஞர் அண்ணா அவர்களது உருவத்தையும் அழகுற வடிவமைத்திருந்தார் ஓவியர் கருப்பைய்யா. அதன் அழகில் மயங்கிய மக்கள் திலகம் தனது தாயாரின் ஓவியத்தை வரைந்து கொடுக்கும் படி பணித்தார்.

ஜுபிடரின் கடைசி படம் "அரசிளங்குமரி.'' இப்படத்தில் எம்.ஜி.ஆர்., பத்மினி, ராஜசுலோசனா ஆகியோர் நடித்தனர்.

கருணாநிதி வசனம் எழுதினார். ஏ.எஸ்.ஏ.சாமி டைரக்ட் செய்தார்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பாடுவது போல் அமைந்த "சின்னப்பயலே, சின்னப்பயலே சேதி கேளடா'' என்ற பாடல் இந்தப்படத்தில்தான் இடம் பெற்றது.

"அரசிளங்குமரி'' படம் தயாரிப்பில் இருந்தபோதே, சோமுவின் உடல் நலம் குன்றியது. அவருக்கு தீவிர சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப்பட்டது. அவரை காப்பாற்ற மகன்கள் எம்.எஸ்.காசி, எம்.எஸ்.செந்தில் ஆகிய இருவரும் அரும்பாடுபட்டனர்.

ஆயினும், சிகிச்சை பலன் இன்றி, 1960 நவம்பர் 17-ந்தேதி சோமு காலமானார். அப்போது அவருக்கு வயது 53.

சோமு, தன் மகள் சாந்தாவிடம் மிகுந்த அன்பு கொண்டிருந்தார். இறப்பதற்கு முன் மகளிடம் அன்புடன் பேசினார். தண்ணீர் கொண்டு வருமாறு சொன்னார். தண்ணீர் கொண்டு வருவதற்குள் சோமுவின் உயிர் பிரிந்து விட்டது.

தகவல் அறிந்து, கலை உலகப் பிரமுகர்கள் திரண்டு வந்து அஞ்சலி செலுத்தினர்.

அதே நேரத்தில், வேலைக்காரி பக்கத்து அறைக்குச் சென்றபோது, சோமுவின் மகளும் இறந்து கிடந்ததைப் பார்த்து, பதறிக் கொண்டு ஓடி வந்து தகவல் தெரிவித்தார்.

தந்தை இறந்த அதிர்ச்சி தாங்காமல், மகளும் இறந்த துயர நிகழ்ச்சியைக் கண்டு, கூடியிருந்தவர்கள் கண்ணீர் சிந்தினர்.

சோமு இறந்து சில நாட்களுக்குப்பின் "அரசிளங்குமரி'' வெளியாயிற்று.

நான் எம்.ஜி.ஆரோடு 22 ஆண்டுகள் தொண்டனாக- தோழனாக- தம்பியாக எல்லாவகையிலும் இணைந்து வாழ்ந்திருக்கிறேன். அந்த 22 ஆண்டு காலம் என் நெஞ்சை விட்டு நீங்காத காலம். அதனை பொற்காலம் என்றே சொல்லலாம்.

நான் உண்மையாக வாழ்ந்த காலம் அந்த 22 ஆண்டுகாலம்தான். அவருடைய உதவியால்தான் தமிழின ஆயுதப்போர் தொடங்கினேன். அவரது உதவியுடன், ஈழப்போராட்ட உதவிக்குக் காரணமாக இருந்தவன் நான். என்னால் ஒரு காசு தமிழீழப் போருக்குத் தர முடியாது. எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பலகோடிகளை வாரிவாரிக் கொடுத்தார். அவர் வழங்கிய கைக்கு உதவியாக என்னுடைய கை பிடித்துக் கொடுக்க வைத்தது.

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவர் அல்ல; பத்துகோடிகளில் ஒரு மனிதர். அவரது கலை உலகம், நடிப்புலகம் ஒரே நாளில் உயர்ந்ததல்ல. படிப்படியாக, மெல்ல மெல்ல உயர்ந்து யாரும் எட்ட முடியாத எல்லையைத் தொட்டவர்.

அரசியலில் நெருக்கடி காரணமாக "உலகம் சுற்று வாலிபன்' படத்தை ரகசியமாக- உலக சினிமா அரங்கில் சுவரொட்டி ஒட்டாமல் வெளியிட்டார். அது மாபெரும் வெற்றிப் படமாக அமைந்தது என்றால் அதற்குக் காரணம்- அவர் மக்கள் திலகம் என வலம் வந்ததால்தான்.

அரசியலைப் பொறுத்தவரையில் ஒருகால கட்டத்தில் காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியில் இருந்து, அண்ணாமீது கொண்ட அளப்பரிய அன்பு காரணமாக தன்னை தி.மு.க.வில் இணைத்துக் கொண்டவர். தி.மு.க. வளர்ச்சியில் சரிபாதிக்கு மேல் அவருக்கு பங்கு உண்டு.

அண்ணா மறைந்த பின்னர் கருணாநிதியை முதலமைச்சராக்கியது எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.தான். முதலமைச்சரான கருணாநிதி தி.மு.க.விலிருந்து விலக்கியபின் முறைப்படி தனிக்கட்சி ஆரம்பித்தார். இதற்கு தனி மனித முனைப்பு காரணமாக இருந்தது. ஆனால் கருணாநிதி நினைத்தபடி எம்.ஜி.ஆர். காணாமல் போய்விடவில்லை. கட்சியை விட்டு விலகி தனிக்கட்சி ஆரம்பித்து ஐந்தே ஆண்டுகளில் ஆட்சி அமைத்தவர் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அவர் உயிருடன் இருக்கும்வரை கருணாநிதி முதலமைச்சராக வர கனவுகூட காணமுடியவில்லை. இதுதான் எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் வெற்றி.

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அரசியலுக்கு வந்ததாலேயே பல நன்மைகள் தமிழகத்துக்கு- தமிழக மக்களுக்கு கிடைத்தது. "தமிழ் தமிழ்' என்று பேசினார்கள் பலர். ஆனால் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். ஐந்தாவது உலகத்தமிழ் மாநாட்டை மதுரையில் சிறப்பாக நடத்தினார். அதுவும் தமிழாய்ந்த தமிழறிஞர்களுடன் இணைந்து அரசியல் கலப்பில்லாமல் நடத்தினார்.

தஞ்சையில் 1200 ஏக்கரில் தஞ்சைத் தமிழ்ப் பல்கலைக்கழகம் உருவாகக் காரணமாய் இருந்தவர். அதனுடைய வளர்ச்சிக்கு என்னென்ன செய்யமுடியுமோ அத்தனையும் செய்தார்.

தந்தை பெரியாருக்கு நூற்றாண்டு விழாவை ஓராண்டு முழுவதும் எல்லா மாவட்டத் தலைநகரங்களிலும் நடத்தினார். பெரியாரின் சீர்திருத்த எழுத்துக்களை நடைமுறைக்குக் கொண்டு வந்தார் . பெரியார் நினைவுத்தூண் உருவாக்கினார். ஒலி, ஒளி காட்சியை உருவாக்கினார்.

அண்ணா அவர்கள் லட்சோப லட்சம் தி.மு.க தொண்டர்களை, தோழர்களை தன் தம்பிமார்களாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார். 1967-ல் விருகம்பாக்கம் மாநாட்டில், "அன்புத் தம்பிமார்களே நாம் அத்தனை பேரும் ஒரே வயிற்றில் பிறப்பது சாத்தியம் இல்லை என்பதால் வெவ்வேறு தாய்மார்கள் வயிற்றில் பிறந்தாலும் நாம் அத்தனைபேரும் ஒரு தாய் வயிற்றுப் பிள்ளைகள்தான் என்பதை மறக்கக்கூடாது' என்றார். தி.மு.கழக தோழர்கள் ஒரு குடும்பம் என்றார். அதனால் அண்ணாவின் புகழ் வளர்ந்தது.

தன்னலம் சார்ந்த மனிதர்கள் தங்களைத் தாங்களே அழித்துக் கொள்கிறார்கள். பொதுநலம் பேணுகிற மனிதர்கள் தாங்கள் சார்ந்த சமுதாயத்தையும் வாழவைத்து, தாங்கள் மறைந்த பின்னாலும் மறையாமல் வாழ்கிறார்கள்.''
