The lotus blooms again!

After a lean phase, Thamarai is back with Yennai Arindhaal. The lyricist in a chat with Subha J. Rao

When lyricist Thamarai, composer Harris Jayaraj and director Gautham Vasudev Menon get together, the stage is set for magic. From Minnale to Vaaranam Aayiram, the trio has worked to come up with music that slowly seeps into your soul. For some weeks now, Thamarai has been hard at work for their next outing — the Ajith-starrer Yennai Arindhaal; the audio is scheduled for a January 1 release. Sitting in her favourite writing space — her bed — pencil in hand, letting her imagination soar within her set boundaries, she has written six numbers, except the intro song that’s already out. Her fans on social media are waiting for The Lotus, as they call her, to strike with her poetry again. Excerpts from an interview:

You’re known for your novel imagery and love-soaked poetry. What kind of songs have you written for this film?

Six songs, like I said, but I don’t like to speak about them before the music releases. I like people to listen to them, give me feedback, and then I speak about how I worked and what my thought process was like. But I will say this film’s songs will have a ‘different voice’, in terms of theme and approach. Yes, my love songs are popular, but that’s because they celebrate sensual love, without reducing it to something vulgar that triggers ‘aruvaruppu’. I say no to ‘aabasa paatu’ not ‘kaama paatu’. Lust is integral to love. My songs must touch people’s hearts, and reflect in shy smiles or tears damp with longing.

So, where do you sit and write these songs? What is your writing process like?

The bed, like the world knows by now. I had a bad back problem some years ago and found maximum comfort when I lay down. Slowly, that became my sanctuary. I would hold a pencil and the poet in me would travel to another zone; at the same time, the homemaker in me would notice the glistening cobweb patterns on the ceiling. I’ve never had time to clear them. I hear of lyricists who travel to a tranquil place to write. I’ve never had that luxury. I’ve always written, stealing time for myself from house work. I’m a multi-tasker. I just did not have a choice. I am the breadwinner of the family, always worried about earning enough to keep everyone happy. I am the primary caregiver for my son, Samaran. I set the cooker, attend a phone call and sit with my pencil and writing pad. All the while, keeping count of the whistles so that lunch gets ready in time. My lyrics that seek to open new worlds have been written within the four walls of the same room, for years! How I crave a break and a chance to give my 100 per cent to my craft! But, I wonder if I can write that way. I’m so used to pressure now. Someday, when I travel back to how I wrote each of those songs, I’m sure I’ll weep for all that pain, all that grief. But now, I have work to do, songs to write.

Despite these restrictions, you’ve come a long way…

I’m just grateful. I struggled for quite a while before I joined a group of creative people who sought to be ‘exceptions’. Slowly, the exceptions joined the mainstream. I became mainstream too. But, it has been an arduous journey.

In all this, you’ve never lost your individualistic voice.

That’s true. I’ve always strived to write with a certain dignity. I always write imagining the character. So, I do end up with verses that Thamarai the person does not believe in. For instance, I might bring in God in my songs, even though I am an atheist. My philosophy finds an outlet in my non-film writing. I’ve tried to demarcate the two always. Simplicity governs my film writing; the idea is to get the theme across. I can’t write like how I regularly write, because I can’t hand over ‘Konar’ notes to the audience! The idea is to draw them in; not to showcase my prowess.

Mention must be made of your successful collaboration with Harris and Gautham…

It’s going to be 14 years since we met. We have managed to encourage the other to give his/her very best. It’s nice to be part of a team where each understands the other perfectly. I love the fact that Harris gives my lyrics so much importance; I’m always a part of the recording process. And Gautham gives them new life on screen, every single time. Without the right tune and visualisation, even the best songs will get lost. I’m deeply appreciative of the space Gautham and Harris have given me, because songs deserve that importance. We hold a high-voltage power line in our hands, capable of so much; sadly, we hardly ever use it to its potential. I cringe when my son sings popular but ‘inappropriate’ songs. Songs can bring about change. We must understand how to wield that power. And, use it responsibly

Yennai Arindhaal:Ajith fans to have an unique audio launch

It is well known fact that Ajith never encourage grand audio launches for his films and he himself avoid attending film related functions.

Despite Ajith’s polite requests, his die-hard fans are planning a surprise for him to reiterate the fact that Ajith is the only hero who commands the best opening in Tamil Nadu.

Now the audio of Ajith’s Yennai Arindhaal will be releasing on January 1st and again the team is not having any special function for it but what we hear from Ajith fans is that they are planning for a unique audio launch at Ritchie Street, Chennai.

Fans from various zones in Chennai will be present for the audio launch and also similar functions are being planned in other parts of Tamil Nadu as well. Mean time, the trailer of Yennai Arindhaal will also be released on January 1st and it is officially confirmed through a press statement.

Ajith's Yennai Arindhaal - Racing against time

Yennai Arindhaal is progressing fast, working in the last stages of production. With cast, crew members and musicians working almost 24x7, there are still significant challenges to meet the Pongal commitment that the producers have made to the loyal fans. There are a number of factors that the team consider as struggles to get over within the short time window.

The audio release expected to happen on January 1st followed by theatrical release within 10 days. This is the shortest time frame between the audio release and movie release for a Harris and Gautham Menon's movie. The big musicians including Harris usually prefer one month to 2 months for the songs to stay on the charts necessary to create publicity and recognition. The general concern is 10 days is too short a time period.

Yennai Arindhaal team is still busy doing patch work, editing, dubbing, re-recording and sound mixing. Gautham Menon and his team members are working double shift to make this work. Harris Jayaraj is busy working on much-delayed re-recording for Anegan and Nanbenda at the same time.

Yennai Arindhaal team has reiterated their intent clear that it will clash head on against Shankar's Ai. During the past year, Jilla and Veeram ended up splitting the market with each making less than expected revenues. Yennai Arindhaal's biggest risk ahead is taking on Shankar's Ai during the festival weekend. Some of the industry sources believe the competition is not against "Ai", but with Sivakarthikeyan's Kaaki Sattai, which is believed to have the same story concept as Yennai Arindhaal, both the movies are race against each other to release for Pongal.

Racing against time
Industry sources believe that Ajith is keen on releasing for Pongal to take on "Ai". Hence, producer and director are doing all they can to release Yennai Arindhaal for Pongal. With such a short time span, will Yennai Arindhaal be able to keep up the date commitments and other release work prior to Pongal.

Thala films always get delayed. GVM drags and drags and never release his films on time. The combination of Thala and Gowtham releasing on time is a far-fetched imagination. Last film to get released as planned was Veeram and it was the pongal winner.

Trailer is intriguing. Thala's voice has matured a lot in recent years. He looks terrific in each of the shots. My favourite is the one with short grey hair and white full sleeve tee. Anushka never looked more beautiful than in YA. Good hair style and the kuthu with girls was cute and bubbly. Trusha's costumes look weird. Vijay na looks good and hope he has good scope to perform. Looks like Thala totally owns it.

These audio celebrations are no surprise for us. General audience say Ajith is not getting good songs. But for their fans no matter who is the MD, how the songs come out, have a release function or not.. They will celebrate his audio releases... AFAIK it has a Varalaaru of atleast 10 years...

Well regarding release date postponement. I'm not very happy with the date though from the go I know there won't be a clash but expected release 1 week before or after Pongal.

But Jan 29 to bad I guess. Nevertheless Thala movie is Thala movie whatever be the release date there will be celebration.

Thala films always get delayed. GVM drags and drags and never release his films on time. The combination of Thala and Gowtham releasing on time is a far-fetched imagination. Last film to get released as planned was Veeram and it was the pongal winner.

Quite true. Veeram was planned and executed well within the time. It won. Same happened with Villan. KSR hit the bulls eye.

Anyway, if the films release on Pongal, we will be able to give them run for the money by closely releasing YA within the two weeks. Let us hope they don't rush. Screenplay is important and GVM has to concentrate big time in that.

I'm glad movie got delayed. With I releasing and Shankar hype, collections would be affected as well as screens.

Gautham's best works were cop based in recent times. If YA can reach VV standard in execution and (maybe) content that is acceptable for a U/A certificate (as opposed to VV's constant swear words and gory scenes), that would be a win. A rushed product doesn't deliver in the end. Let I and Aambala get a free run, I don't care what others think.

Yes good for Ai... It will get good number of screens and two weeks free run... Comparatively it is a very high budget movie... Have been in the cans for almost two months after completion which might hiked its production cost further... In addition they have spent so much for audio release, promotion etc for Tamil, Telugu and Hindi separately... Now they can relax a bit...

problem is both of them are biggies and interest neutral audiences too so both will get affected. I wpuld have loved GVM to have given the finishing touch by now and unlease it on I. Shooting ippo thaan mudichaanga so film won't be ready by now. I hope they will have it ready by Jan 29, at least.

Sunitha Sarathy and Kharesma Ravichandran’s highly fangled Tamil jars in Yaen ennai, but Harris’ catchy tune has enough oomph, while the alluring sounds in Mazhai vara is highly reminiscent of Harris’ work for the late director Jeeva. Unakkenna venum depends on Benny’s vocals and the simple guitar background that Harris lovingly puts together, besides the wonderfully pleasant tune. Chinmayi, in the song’s sober version, Idhayathai yedho, does well too, with Thamarai’s lyrics too coming to the fore! Devan handles the title song admirably well, but Harris’ funky backgrounds contribute more to the song’s appeal. Adhaaru adhaaru is a crowd-pleasing kuthu that gets everything right – Vijay Prakash and Gana Bala are on top of the raucous track. The soundtrack’s surprise is Maya bazaar, an interesting melange that mixes dubstep’py goodness delivered by Krishna Iyer, with a fabulously retro melody led by Aalaap Raju and Priya Subramanian, and then a techno-folk mix handled superbly by Velmurugan that also holds a nadaswaram-based Kalyana samayal saadham prelude, to go with the Gadothkajan opening… only to end in a waltz’y note repeating the retro tune in a new perspective! Yennai Arindhaal is Harris’ best in a long time, thanks largely to director Gautam Menon!

I don't think so. Anuska goes for more touch-ups than colorings, quite visible in most of her films, including 2nd World and Lingaa. She just wore bright lip colors in Vedham. Here, her hairdo is new, kind of a profilic change. And also the 'Pinnal' is not many people's cup of coffee as for a while we have been seeing only loose hair in slow motion. I think the profile artists worked night shifts to project her ears and neck. Her ear wear is going to be the talk of the town. Plus, the hair do kind of mingles with the modern but traditional girl. Anuska has got most of the body and mannerism features when exploited properly would look like a darling. GVM has tried his best.

Lets see on the screen how it gets converted while in motion with costumes, and I am sure she is going to be a hit.

Music: Harris Jayaraj
Lyrics: Thamarai,Vignesh Shivan
Singer: Sunitha Sarathy, Khareshma Ravichandran, Karthik, Emcee Jesz, Benny Dayal, Mahathi, Devan Ekambaram, Mark Thomas, Abhishek, Vijay Prakash, Gana Bala, Aalaap Raju, Priya Subramanian, Velmurugan, Krishna Iyer, Chinmayi

With every passing day Ajith’s Yennai Arindhaal is turning on the heat, with Ajith’s massive online following leading to the film’s trailer and songs trending like crazy on social media. The film directed by ace filmmaker Gautham Menon also stars Trisha Krishnan, Anushka Shetty and Arun Vijay. The music scored by Harris Jayaraj, which has been widely anticipated for months, is finally here. The single Adhaaru Adhaaru, which was released couple of weeks ago, is already a huge hit among the fans. Lets plug in the earphones and listen to the tunes of Harris Jayaraj, to see if the album of Yennai Arindhaal delivers on it’s promise.

Yaen Ennai

The album opens with highly westernised song titled Yaen Ennai. Sung by Sunitha Sarathy and Khareshma Ravichandran, the song composed by Harris Jayaraj will give you a feel of hearing a highly stylised English pop song. Both the singers have shown off their immense range of vocals and the way English lyrics are sung will remind you of Rihana. The song starts of with a peculiar sound from the synthesiser paving way to energetic guitar riffs and mild techno beats. Saxaphone piece in the middle of the song is noteworthy. In short, the unique western style singing makes Yaen Ennai memorable.

Mazhai Vara Pogudhae

The next song in the album might remind you of Manjal Veyil from Vettaiyadu Vilayadu as both the songs are romantic numbers with a difference and both of them are composed by Harris Jayaraj. Sung beautifully by Karthik, this romantic song with western musical arrangements is sure to make you click that repeat button. Lyrics from Thamarai are apt for a romantic number, but it is Harris Jayaraj’s complex mixture of synthesiser sound, bass guitar, drums and R &B elements make this song stand out. Also the use of guitar and drums gives a feel of bandlike music. With Karthik’s melodious vocals backed by Harris’ foot tapping composition is definetly a winner from the album.

Unakkena Venum Sollu

Benny Dayal is a revelation in this soul stirring romantic track. That’s right! Benny, who lends his voice to fast paced numbers, has sung the romantic number Unakkena Vennum Sollu with such panache that will leave you spell bound. After utilising a lot of western elements in the previous song, Harris has stuck to basic instruments like guitar, drums, flute and orchestra to create a magical number. The song starts with simple acoustic guitar strumming, which continues throughout the song, paving way to mesmerising vocals of Benny Dayal and Mahathi singing soul touching lyrics from Thamarai. The chorus portions in the song alleviate the song to whole new level and mild orchestration will give you goosebumps. With three great tracks, looks like Harris Jayaraj is on a roll.

Yennai Arindhaal

The title track is finally here. And how is it? Mind blowing! The song highlighting the heroics of Thala Ajith has been sung by the trio Abhishek, Devan Ekambaram and Mark Thomas. But the song compeletely belongs to music director Harris Jayaraj, who seems to have gone into an experimental mode with Yennai Arindhaal title track. Harris brings back the synthesiser and puts it to some incredible use. The synthesiser combined with unique mix of dubstep, DJ effects and EDM loops produces such an amazing sound that will leave you overwhelmed. The energy of the song varies as it falls down a bit while vocals arrive but peaks to zenith in the interludes. The song might be loved by avid gamers as it sounds more like a gaming music. As for the rest, we would be left awestruck, not knowing what hit us. Two thumbs up for the title track!

Adhaaru Adhaaru

This song needs no introduction as it has already become a huge hit among the masses. The song starts of with a very unique yet enjoyable guitar piece which instantly puts you in jolly mood, which is quickly followed by interesting chorus with quirky lyrics from Vignesh Shivan. Vijay Prakash’s strong vocals perfectly match the mood of the song which is filled with desi drum beats and nadaswaram. Gana Bala plays a good second fiddle to Vijay as he maximises the fun in the song. This local semi-kuthu number is colourful and will make you want to hit the dance floor. The unconventional combo of Vijay Prakash and Gana Bala works wonders, as Harris takes back seat allowing his singers to walk away with applause.

Maya Bazaar

Looks like the ace music director has regained his lost touch and is in full form . Maya Bazaar is three songs disguised as one, with each one giving tough competition to another. Harris has combined songs of different genres to dish out an extremely delicious number. The song starts with Aalaap Raju’s refreshing vocals backed by Harris’ favourite synthesiser and dubstep giving an urban feel to the song. Quickly, the song shifts gears as Krishna Iyer and Priya Subramanian sing an ultra melodious number, which will remind you of glorious 60’s. This honey like sweet number is backed by beautiful arrangement of Indian instruments like tabla, flute and sitar. This is followed by a highly enjoyable rendition from Velmurugan, bcked by nadaswaram, which will make you snap your fingers in joy. The song ends with melodious chorus and hautingly beautiful orchestra piece. Harris has shown is command over wide range of music in Maya Baazar.

Idhayathai Yedho Ondru

The last song of the album is Idhayathai Yedho Ondru, which is a reprise version of Unakkena Venum Sollu. Sung by the nightingale of Tamil cinema, Chinmayi, the song kicks off with a beautiful piano piece followed by Chinmayi’s sweet vocals. Soon, mild guitar riff, beats and flute adds to the melody of the melancholic number. Overall the song’s meaningful lyrics, Chinmayi’s voice and soothing music makes it a must hear for those in love.

Verdict: Harris Jayaraj-Gautham Menon combo has always led to some incredible music. And here they are yet again delivering a heck of an album with great mix of songs to keep you hooked. Yennai Arindhaal album is a winner, with every song ,more or less, hitting the bulls eye.

Our Pick: Mazhai Vara Pogudhae, Yennai Arindhaal, Unakkena Venum Sollu

Rating: 4 out of 5

Yennai Arindhaal is an upcoming movie starring Thala Ajith Kumar as the lead hero alongside two ravishingly beautiful ladies, Trisha and Anushka. The movie also marks the comeback of one of the evergreen combos Gautham Menon and Harris Jayaraj after six long years.

Yaen Ennai
Singers: Kharesma Ravichandran, Sunitha Sarathy
Lyrics: Thamarai
With gypsy like strumming of the guitars to set the rhythm, Sunithy Sarathy and Khareshma's quirky yet open-throat singing sound different and appealing. The sax solo in the BGM is truly international. Take the time and hit the pods with this.

Mazhai Vara Pogudhae
Singers: Emcee Jesz, Karthik
Lyrics: Thamarai
This is evergreen Harris for you. Karthik's honeyed singing, strong features of R 'n' B, acoustic strumming and synthesized interludes. The harmonies in the background are a true delight. A jazzed up melody with a brief rap portion. The pop like beats, blues like guitar and the prog element reminds the Toto days.

Unakkenna Venum Sollu
Singers: Benny Dayal, Mahathi
Lyrics: Thamarai
Using Benny Dayal for an almost pathos is a killer move. Backed by very strong chords, mild arrangements and evenly paced rhythms, this song can instantly bring a smile on your face. Chorus portions are soulful and the lyrics are a noteworthy experimentation.

Yennai Arindhaal
Singers: Abhishek, Devan Ekambaram, Mark Thomas
Lyrics: Thamarai
The title track is all pumped-up with the dub-step effects, dainty EDM loops and not forgetting Thamarai's dashing lyrics. The highs and lows in the song are haunting and totally new. Harris has experimented with the tune progression and also has positioned the composition with multiple layered instrumentation. The interludes are tripping and Dj's delight.

Adhaaru Adhaaru
Singers: Gana Bala, Vijay Prakash
Lyrics: Vignesh Shivan
Starting with the lively chorus, the song is ruled by powerful singing and peppy beats. The rhythm breakdowns in the interludes are meant to evoke thunderous response. A nice casual gaana.

Maya Bazaar
Singers: Aalaap Raaju, Krishna Iyer, Priya Subramanian, Velmurugan
Lyrics: Thamarai
French house, light classical, folk-rock, ballet and what not. This is an ambitious blend of genre specific portions catering to a montage of sequences. Like the title, the song is one stop bazaar for all types of music.

Idhayathai Yedho Ondru
Singers: Chinmayi
Lyrics: Thamarai
Grand piano to substantiate Chinmayi's soft voice, this melancholic melody is a clean winner. A female take on the Unakenna venum sollu version, this track is rich in the notations.
Verdict: With huge expectations, Gautham Menon and Harris Jeyaraj avoid the tried and tested path and deliver an adventurous album. They are back ! 3.25

after going through the various news sources shared above; we can say that what happened later is history...let us all take the postponement of YA in the positive and whatever happens is for good... :) but there is one thing very much clear that though Ajith had wanted it to be a Pongal release...there was heavy lobbying in the backdrop by Shankar and AASCAR for I to be released during Pongal too...but Thala as we all know has, was, is and will always be generous towards others no matter whatever the situation :)

These are allmedia fabrications to gain attention, nothing like Ajith Generousityto Push YA or Viceversa...they tried their best to release for Pongal,....
Still I would say its Stupidity of AMR to release 2 weeks after Pongal Jan29 is worst date dull period with Semester exams,World cups.....Many planned to watch YA with family during Pongal Holidays...everything spoiled... :sigh2:...

Our GVM is PHD in delaying shoots with his lazy style of On Spot scriot changes...etc...Poor planning even after announcing month back as Pongal release

leosimha
5th January 2015, 11:12 PM
The movie was planned as Pongal release when the shoot was started itself long time back. Also when I said Ajith was generous I didn't mean that he would have pushed or etc etc but he would have remained silent going by the wishes of AMR the producer because Ajith had expressed his desire as Pongal release but would have left the final decision to AMR because AMR wants atleast 500+ theatres for YA release but I releasing planned in 500-600 theatres...

anyways wishing Thala's YA creating another history after Mankatha for non-holiday release :) ;)

Sri Lankan fans help Ajith beat MGR by 20 feet

80 feet cut-out for Ajith's Yennai Arindhaal

Ajith Kumar’s fans in Colombo have made him beat the late and legendary MGR by ’20 feet’ by erecting an 80-feet high cut-out of the actor to publicize the latter’s upcoming film Yennai Arindhaal which is set for a worldwide release on 29th January.

Gautham Vasudev Menon is directing Ajith for the first time in the film which has Trisha and Anushka as the two heroines in it. Ajith’s fans were hoping for the film to release on Pongal, a ‘big day’ as far as Tamil films and fans are concerned. However, some last minute hiccups have ensured that the film won’t release on Pongal but some days later on 29th January.

Unfazed by the delay, fans of Ajith in Colombo are gearing up big time to welcome the film in the Island Nation. With more than two weeks to go for the film’s release, they have already erected a huge, 80-feet high cut-out of Ajith Kumar at a premier theatre where the film is likely to be released.

Fans of MGR had erected a 4-feet high cut-out for him years back. Ajith’s fans beat the record by putting up a 58-feet long cut-out at the time of release of Ajith’s Veeram last year. This time, though, they have bettered their own record by erecting an 80-feet cut-out to mark the release of Yennai Arindhaal!

Yennai Arindhal (YA) Songs

Composed & Complied by Harris Jayaraj (HJ)
Lyrics : Thamarai (Vignesh Shivan for 1 song)
Idea : Gautham Vasudevan Menon (GVM)
For : Ajith Starrer

Genre : Variety (Electro-Ambient, Techno-House, Dubstep)

"I don't know who I am, but I know who I'm not" - Yennai Arindhal.

After listening to songs of YA for about a week, I am convinced with the work done by HJ. Eventhough the wait was long, HJ delivers this time. GVM & Thamarai's effort are quite well put into use by HJ, by producing different sounds and projecting the needed elevation for Ajith. It’s always a wonder for me to detect whether anything done for Ajith is awesome or anything done with Ajith is awesome. Lately I used this sentence only for Rajini, don't mistake me for comparing, more than the worth, Ajith merits it.

Harris Jayaraj never fails to include all our favorite tunes in this album too. So it gets an instant second listening, before the HJ format slowly takes its place. It is nothing like listening the songs on a hi-fi audio system, as YouTube and MP3s does not do any justice to the recording crispness done by HJ & team. Apart from the trademark HJ beats and chorus, his experimentation to create an ambient electro music with slow beats, coupled with funky techno rhythms and adding, this time not industrial but a Dubstep. Curious mixture and I would say he has largely succeeded, but he would have made even bigger if he had produced more original melodies/bass beats. Nevertheless, the assembly is wonderful. Assisting him are the wonderful lyrics and GVM's command, keeping in mind the 'Ajith persona'.

1/ Idhayathai Yedho Ondru
Singer : Chinmayi

Quite difficult to pick, but when it comes to picking, you got to pick the one, considering it’s the best from the lot of the best. "Idhayathai Yedho Ondru" (female vocals) is so beautiful. The awesome part are the lyrics:

Ennaku Enna Vendum Endru
Oru Vaarthai Kelu Nindru
Ini Neeyum Naanum Ondru
Ena Sollum Naalum Endru

Fabulous use of the word 'Endru'. HJ kept it quite low, slowly allowing the vocal and the tune to battle it out to conquer the ears.

2/ Unakkenna Venum Sollu
Singer : Benny Dayal, Mahathi

Not an remix or recycle, even though the tune gets already introduced/familiar, it’s the theme the lyrics takes and Ajith factor that makes this song sound like another new listen. Stuck somewhere between a lullaby and melody, HJ throws in the curves that projects a fatherly love and patience.

Duruvangal pol neelum idaiveli andru
Tholgalil un moochu elaigiradhindru ... Thana na thana namtham ... Devine. All Appas Vazhga !

The 2nd occurrence of the thematic lines and the closing of the song are marvelous.

3/ Yaen Ennai
Singer : Sunitha Sarathy & Kharesma Ravichandran

Funny this song reminded me of Twisted Transistor by Korn. Someone who had listened to both songs and paid enough attention, they will get what I mean. Anyway, this song is the unusual twin to 'Idhayathai Yedho Ondru', this being the one with the mole on its face. Both speak about the admiration of a girl towards a man. HJ separates their romance thru his music and Thamarai makes sure we get the right difference by embedding different words according to the thoughts of distinct females. There is an awesome Jazz inside which makes this song simply lovely.

Extension :
The 2 songs talk about romance from a female POV. The beauty is how GVM / Thamarai / HJ differentiate it.

Idhayathai Yedho Ondru : Its more mature and the lady is simply awed by this gentleman. It’s a developed romance where she is trying to perfect it. She dreams about the fully grown love inside her for him and imagines cultured and cultivated affection towards him with respect to the age. The lyrics suit the description - what if a settled lady talks her heart out : Idhayam, 'Ithuvarai Ithupola Naanum Illaye', 'Irupathu Oru Manathu, Ithuvarai Athu Enathu', 'Malargalai Alli Vanthu, Mugilvudan Kaiyil Thanthu' ... etc., everything pointing to the heart’s intention.

Yaen Ennai : Its more towards infatuation, where the physical needs are the core necessity, au contraire to its twin song. It’s almost inexperienced & incomplete where the girl in love is unprepared in her desires. So the lyrics follow the same pattern by including 'Hand', 'Kichi Kichi', 'Kai Viralgal Korthu', also touch of the breeze and melt of the ice ... so on so forth, everything pointing to a physical attention.

I thought these two songs were well made by GVM & Team. I have no doubt about the 2 dames giving their best too.

4/ Maya Bazaar
Singer : Aalap Raju, Priya Subramanian, Velmurugan, Krishna Iyer

The name 'Maya Bazzar' should put this song on top of the list, as Maya Bazzar is my all time favorite movie. It also has parts of lyrics and tunes from the classic. Again HJ does a deadly mixture of providing the ears to taste different sounds/genres one by one, which always make one think 'this one is too good' each time. This song hits you like a wave.

5/ Adharu Adharu
Singer : Gnana Bala, Vijay Prakash
Lyrics : Vignesh Shivan

Song features 'awesome' Gnana Bala. This song reminded me a lot one of my favorites from ‘Antha Oru Nimidam’. HJ tries hard to accommodate the beats (nalla eraki kuthi irrukapla), and he has achieved it in style.

Vijay Prakash : Bigulu Adichu Ragala seiya Neeyum Readya
Gana Bala : ... Machi ... Colarathaan Thookamale Aadavariya
Awesome !

6/ Yennai Arindhal
Singer : Devan Ekambaram, Mark Thomas, Abhishek

Another song that allows the hero to remind everybody that he is the Hero - clue - the title of the film features in this song. So, apart from scaring the bad guys thru the lyrics, HJ's turn is to give something unique which will mingle well, both as a single as well as a theme. Plus HJ has brought a wagon of heroism thru this song. Inclusion of James Bond-ish elements were top notch. And particularly the sounds he has come up with are catchy. Hats-off HJ. This song should be an instant favorite to fans as it has both the pulse and punch in it.

'Kann Paarthu Paesa Pazhaghu' => speaks volume

7/ Mazhai Vara Pogudhae
Singer : Karthik, Emcee Jezz

This song, I like to call it the 'Girls Favorite'. A typical HJ song which he makes sure to put in each of his album. And the girls would go like 'A wonderful song to hear when you go on a long drive'. Once I asked 'What drive?' - They always end up saying some street name near Besant Nagar beach or ECR Road. I often reply, 'indeed a wonderful Long Drive'. Well, not my kind of song where the beats are there to stay even after the song is over too and their main purpose is to puncture your ears. But, yes, this song will reach many 'long drive' lovers. I just listened to it a couple of times, so I stop whining about it.

YA is a wholesome and welcome album. Fresh and energetic which certainly hooks a curiosity to watch the film. Apart from GVM / HJ styled marks, it also holds Ajith's favorites – friendship and Shiva - including his new found word 'Thangame'.

How Ajith helped Arun Vijay get in shapeJan 9, 2015 07:47 PM , By Srinivasa Ramanujam | 0 comments (http://m.thehindu.com/features/metroplus/how-ajith-helped-arun-vijay-get-in-shape/article6771771.ece/#comments)

http://cdn.mobstac.com/m/img/?src=http%3A//www.thehindu.com/multimedia/dynamic/02273/10MP_Yennaicombo_1_2273633g.jpg&w=220A still from 'Yennai Arindhal'

The actor talks about starring with Ajith in Yennai Arindhaal, how he went about acquiring his six-pack abs and more…
Arun Vijay has been in the film industry for 18 years. He’s done films in many genres, featured as solo hero in several films and played major roles in multi-starrers. But, what turned out to be one of the most unforgettable moments in his life was when director Gautham Menon called him for a project nine months ago.
The film, Yennai Arindhaal, had Ajith in the lead, and Arun playing a powerful role.
“For me, it was like a dream come true,” recalls Arun, “After Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, Gautham hadn’t touched the action genre and we, as fans, were waiting for it. He’s an amazing guy when it comes to handling action and romance. The character he gave me was a challenge and I took it up in all earnestness. Every day of the shoot was fun.”
But it wasn’t easy. There was pressure on him from day one to perform, considering the expectations from this project. “The very first scene I shot was a combination sequence with Ajith sir; I was nervous,” he admits. “But once I completed it, both Thala and Gautham heartily congratulated me. I knew I was in the groove,” he says.
Getting the look of his character was the first challenge. “I used to do shoots just out of interest and send them to Gautham sir, who chose a rough look,” he says. “It’s a time-travel story and I have a couple of looks in it. Ajith sir has four.”
The last nine months of shooting have been hectic, but for Arun, it has been a thorough learning experience. “The best gift I had was the time spent with Ajith sir. There’s a lot of positive energy in him. His self-confidence and willpower — we all know about the back surgeries he’s been through and the way he’s bounced back — are amazing.”
It was his admiration for the star that strengthened Arun’s determination to build up his physique for the film, and achieve the dream ‘six-pack’. That was possible, thanks to working out at the gym for more than six hours a day and being on a high-protein diet. “Ajith sir told me that I was blessed to have such a physique. I wanted to have a six-pack to surprise him. Once, during the shoot, he looked at me and said, ‘Your body language is so Alpha male.’ It made me feel very happy.”
Speculation is rife that he’s playing a character with shades of grey, and Arun just grins when we ask him that. “Nobody even knows my name in the film yet! People who watched the trailer guessed I was a Christian, but that’s about it. It’ll be a surprise package,” is all he’s willing to say.
Arun has another movie titled Vaa Deal coming up and is hoping for its release soon. “My last film, Thadaiyara Thaakka, gave me a new dimension as an actor,” he says, “And then, there was a gap… but now, there’s Yennai Arindhaal. Several people who saw the trailer said, ‘Thala steals the show, but you neatly strike a balance.’ It was good to hear that. This film will have a wider reach and make audiences think, ‘Where was this guy till now?’”
What's cooking?

Arun Vijay and Ajith share a passion for cooking. “We all know that Ajith is a good cook. His biryani is popular in film circles. But, I missed sampling it on the set when he cooked it. And then, one day, he whipped up a biryani in just 15 minutes. Though I was on a diet and off rice, I just had to eat it… and it was delicious. But one day, I too set up a barbeque for the entire team. Ajith sir was zapped and was curious to know how I’d gone about making it.”

A thrilling surprise in 'Yennai Arindhaal' cast
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, January 10, 2015] 0 Comments

Well, 'Yennai Arindhaal' is not releasing for this Pongal, but that hasn't dampened the spirits of Ajith fans as the team 'YA' is keeping them busy by releasing pictures and revealing small surprises, often. The latest, 'rabbit out of the hat' move is, Daniel Balaji's role in the movie. Daniel’s role as Amudhan was well received in, 'Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu' and the fans are quite excited to see his face on the posters and started to predict, what he would be doing in the movie.

In the mean time, the team 'YA' is very upbeat about the movie business and the Chennai distribution rights are said to be sold for a record price. As Ajith fans claim, this year, we could see the euphoria for Pongal twice, one being on the 14th and the other one for 'YA' release.

Looks like this Goodown scene going to be the turning point in movie.
Could see varied expressions(Anxity, nervous, determination, etc.) in Thala's face from various shots shown in Teaser,Trailer and more importantly Yennai Arinthal Theme song.

Pidithadhai vaanga sollu
Verupadhai neenga sollu
Pudhu vellam pudhu
Aaru neendhi paarpomae

I second BM - Greatly impressed with songs too. The sentiment brought through lyrics and music is huge which talks about a 'father figure' and a child girl. No doubt GVM is going to bring in truck load of emotions thru the visuals.

This is the song mentioned by Dan Macarthur in his recent interview to sify...

Which is that one song you like from Yennai Arindhaal?
There is a traveling song during the film which is a really beautiful part of the story that Gautham has told and it brings a tear to everyone’s eye. I love that song.

Are you sure about that "slim line"? do you mean to say it is a reflection of the "slim line" which he is seeing? I didn't observe this much until you pointed it :)

Can there be a defect in the poster?

Excerpts...

"I have just taken break for this show, otherwise i don't think i have slept more than 4hrs for past 4 days. Its worth it."

"Its a special film for me. I am working like it is my first film. This film is as important as my first film."

"I'd love to work with Ajith again. This whole association has been really interesting and exciting and he is really a fine human being and a great gentleman to work with. It has been absolutely easy and pleasing for me."

"This film is a nice blend of action, thriller and love. I will not call it a violent film at all, we completely toned down the violence but there is action, thriller and lots of love n romance."

"I had done a cameo in this film also. Its necessarily not a blink and miss."

"This whole Yennai Arindhaal has been me discovering Ajith and Ajith discovering me."

"It is really pleasant and he made it so comfortable for me. He agreeing to do this film with me or calling me on board itself a huge support and help for me in my career itself. When Dhruva Natchathiram was shelved, i was really lost and don't know what to do next and got in to some financial issue stuffs like that because of the film got shelved."
