ஏற்கெனவே ‘வேட்டையாடு விளையாடு’ படத்தில் கமலுடன் இணைந்து பணியாற்றியதில் திருப்தியடைந்த கௌதம் மேனன் இப்படத்தில் ஒரு சில காட்சிகளுக்கு பின்னணியில் கமலை வைத்து குரல் கொடுக்க முடிவு செய்துள்ளதால். இதற்காக விரைவில் அவரை அணுக முடிவு செய்துள்ளதாக கூறப்படுகிறது.

அஜித் சமீபகாலமாக யாருக்கும் எந்த பதிலும் கூறுவதில்லை, பேட்டியும் கொடுப்பதில்லை, தான் உண்டு தான் வேலை உண்டு என இருந்தார். இப்படியான நிலையில் சமூக வலைதளங்களில் அஜித் மறைமுகமாக உதவி செய்தார் என அதிக அளவில் செய்திகள் வெளிவரத் தொடங்கின. மறைமுகமாக உதவி செய்வது எப்படி வெளியில் தெரிகின்றது, அதுவும் அவர் செய்யும் அனைத்து உதவிகளுமே வெளியில் கசிந்து விடுகின்றதே என பலருக்கும் சந்தேகம் எழுந்தது.

தற்பொழுது ஒரு அதிர்ச்சி தரும் செய்தி நம்முடைய இணையத்திற்கு வந்துள்ளது. கடந்த சில நாட்களாக ஒரு செய்தி சமூக வலைதளங்களிலும், அஜித்திற்கு ஆதரவான இணையதளங்களிலும் உலவி வருகின்றது. அந்த செய்தியை முதலில் பார்ப்போம்:-

மூத்த சினிமா நிருபர் ஒருவர் சென்ற மாதம் உடல் நிலை சரியில்லாமல் மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டார். அவரை பரிசோதித்த மருத்துவர்கள் உடனே ஓப்பன் ஹார்ட் சர்ஜரி செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று கூறினர். ஆனால் அவர்கள் கேட்கும் பணம் அந்த நிருபரிடம் இல்லை, உடனே இந்த செய்தி எப்படியோ மானேஜர் வழியாக அஜித்திடம் சென்றுள்ளது.

அஜித், அந்த நிருபரின் ஆபரேஷன் செலவை தானே ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதாகவும், அந்த நிருபரிடமிருந்து ஒரு பைசா கூட வாங்கக்கூடாது எனவும் கட்டளையிட்டுள்ளார். மேலும், உடனே தன் உதவியாளரை அனுப்பி சில லட்சங்களை அட்வான்சாக அந்த மருத்துவமனையில் கட்டிவிட்டார். இதை அறிந்த நிருபர் கண்ணீர் மல்க அஜித்திற்கு நன்றி தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

என்ற இந்த செய்தி தான் இணையம் முழுவதும் பரவிவருகின்றது.

அந்த நிருபரின் பெயர் சண்முகம். இவர் தினத்தந்தி அலுவலகத்தில் தான் வேலை செய்துவருகின்றார். இவருக்கு உடல்நலக்குறைவு ஏற்பட்டது. மருத்துவ சிகிச்சைக்கு பணம் இல்லை என்பது மட்டுமே உண்மை. அஜித் உதவி செய்தார் என்ற செய்தி முற்றிலும் போலி. அவருக்கு உதவி செய்தது தினத்தந்தி பத்திரிக்கையின் நிறுவனரான ஆதித்தனாரின் குடும்பம் மட்டுமே. அந்த பத்திரிக்கையாளருக்கு தேவையான அனைத்து மருத்துவ வசதிகளும் ஏற்பாடு செய்து கொடுத்துள்ளது தினத்தந்தி நிறுவனம்.

விஷயம் இப்படியிருக்க, இணையத்தில் அஜித் செய்ததாக போலியான செய்தி பரவிவருகின்றது. இதை பரப்பியது அஜித்தா? அல்லது அவரது ரசிகரா? என்பது ஒருபுறம் இருக்கட்டும். இதற்கு முன் அஜித் லைட்மேன் குழந்தையை படிக்க வைத்தார். வீட்டு வேலைகாரர்களுக்கு சொந்த செலவில் வீடு கட்டிக்கொடுத்தார். தல 55 படத்திற்காக வடஇந்தியா சென்றபோது டாக்சி ட்ரைவருக்கு ஆப்பிள் ஐபோன் பரிசாக கொடுத்தார், அஜித் அதை செய்தார் இதை செய்தார் என செய்திகள் பரவின. இவை அனைத்துமே போலியான செய்தியா என சந்தேகத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது.

அஜித் எந்த ட்ரைவருக்கும் போன் பரிசாகவும் கொடுக்கவில்லை, அதனை நான் பார்க்கவும் இல்லை, யாரிடமும் அப்படி கூறவும் இல்லை என விவேக் அவர்களே ஒப்பன் ஸ்டேட்மென்ட் கொடுத்துவிட்டார்.

மேலும், அஜித்தை வைத்து ஆஞ்சநேயா படம் எடுத்த எஸ்.எஸ் சக்கரவர்த்திக்கு பெருத்த நஷ்டம். தன் சொத்துகளை எல்லாம் இழந்துவிட்டார். அப்போது அஜித்திடம் உதவிகேட்டு நின்றபோது, படம் தோல்வி அடைந்ததற்கு இயக்குனர் தான் பொறுப்பு ,அவரை போய் கேளுங்கள் எனக்கு எது தெரியாது என கூறிவிட்டார். இதனால் மனமுடைந்து போன தயாரிப்பாளர் தற்கொலை செய்யும் அளவிற்கு சென்று உயிர் தப்பினார். இது பெரும்பாலும் அனைவரும் அறிந்ததே.

அடுத்து இயக்குனர் பாலா நடிப்பில் அஜித் நந்தா படத்தில் நடிப்பார் என கூறப்பட்டது. ஆனால் அதில் அஜித் நடிக்கவில்லை, சூர்யாவிற்கு சென்றது. அதன் பிறகு நான் கடவுள் படத்தில் அஜித் நடிக்க உள்ளதாக தகவல்கள் வெளியாகின. நான்கடவுள் படத்திற்காக அஜித்திற்கு அட்வான்சும் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. அந்த படத்தில் நடிப்பதற்காகத் தான் முடியை நீளமாக வளர்த்தார் அஜித். அதில் ஜட்டியோடும், கோவணத்துடனும் தோன்றும் காட்சிகள் இருந்ததால், அதை நீக்கிவிடும் படி பாலாவிடம் கூறியுள்ளார். ஆனால் அதை நீக்கிவிட்டால், கதாபாத்திரத்தின் ரியாலிட்டி குறைந்து விடும் என பாலா மறுத்துவிட்டார். எனவே அஜித் நான்கடவுள் படத்தில் நடக்கமாட்டேன் என கூறிவிட்டார். இதனால் கடுப்பாகிய பாலா, அஜித்தை அலுவலகத்திற்கு அழைத்து அட்வான்ஸ்-யை திருப்பிகேட்டுள்ளார். அதை திருப்பி கொடுக்க முடியாது என அஜித் வீம்பு பிடித்ததால், அப்பொழுதைய நேரத்தில் சினிமாவில் அதிகம் செலுத்திய மதுரை சகோதரர்கள் அஜித்தை அறைக்குள் பூட்டி, நாலு இழுப்பு இழுத்தனர். அதன் பின் அவருடைய மேனஜேர் ஓடோடி வந்து பணத்தை பைசல் செய்தார்.

தான் வாங்கிய பணத்தையும் கொடுக்கவும், தன்னால் நடுத்தெருவிற்கு வந்த தயாரிப்பாளருக்கும் உதவி செய்ய மறுத்தவர் தான் அஜித். ஆனால் இப்பொழுது பரவி வரும் அவரை பற்றிய ஆதாரமில்லாத செய்திகள் எப்படி உண்மையாகும். இது கண்டிப்பாக அஜித்தின் ரசிகர்கள் அல்லது ஆதரவாளர்கள் யாரோ செய்யும் விசம வேலைதான் இது. மேலும் இந்த தகவல் அஜித்திற்கு தெரியாமல் இருக்க வாய்ப்பே இல்லை. அப்படி இருந்து இது போன்ற செய்திகள் போலி என கூறவும் இல்லை, செய்திகளை பரப்பியவர்கள் மீது எந்த வித நடவடிக்கையும் எடுக்கவும் இல்லை. பைசா செலவில்லாமல் வரும் நல்லபெயரை எதற்கு கெடுத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என எப்பவும் போலவே வாய் திறக்காத ஊமையாகவே இருந்துவிட்டார் போல.

ஆனால் தான் செய்யும் உதவிகளை வெளியில் சொல்லும் சூர்யா, விஜய் போன்றவர்களுக்கு பப்ளிசிட்டிக்கு இப்படி பண்ணுகிறார்கள் என்ற பெயர் கிடைகின்றது. மேலே உள்ள செய்தியை பார்க்கும் போது அஜித்திற்கு விஜய், சூர்யா எவ்வளவோ மேல் என்று தான் தோன்றுகின்றது.

Similar thoughts, but did not go to an extent of drawing a comparison with VV/VA, just stayed a bit around these amazing stills.

You see, if you take cops series novels or darker comics on them or even an intense cop drama, you see one thing thats quite prominent : Protagonist haunted by one particular 'case'. This case is unsolved and drives this cop into emotion trauma, where he adopts easy methods of getting away 'with' it, like alcohol or drugs or sometimes even spirituality. Moreover the cop sticks to the case file and remembers each & every notatation by heart. For ex : normaly a child's disapperence or a murdered teen, which the cop tries to track down that eats away a huge junk of his job experience. Even in Crime Reporters coloumns you can find an intense interview of a (ex)cop recollecting one 'such' case file that he wished to solve before the end of his carrier, or wants to forget it before the end of his life. I really salute them for their perseverance and dedication.

In a similar tone, it would be nice if GVM brings in this theme to TFI (he may get back my trust). If so, it would be wonderful to see the emotional drama inbetween the massive supense & thrills. Ajith's qualities should be apt for such an elevated and psycologically matured role - like a prime crime that intervenes with the rest of the crime investigated that takes a huge toll on the persona where deception explains him why/how the string was cut when he was so close to solving the crime.

But it can turn out to be a classic revenge story too. But it should be interesting if the crime/investigation is gripping. All is in the hands of GVM, the maker of a solid film called Kakha Kakha.

A "mysterious" film indeed. When is it scheduled to release ?

Thinking director Gautham Menon talks about 'Thala 55', the biggest film of his career, in this exclusive chat with Sudhir Srinivasan

Gautham Menon walks into Lloyd’s Tea House in Gopalapuram apologising for the delay. A rare spell of Chennai rain has interfered in his shooting schedule with Ajith and made him available for this interview. We are not complaining.

I believe you like the city’s coffee shops. Do you unearth potential love stories here?

I like writing in coffee shops; I haven’t had coffee or tea ever! There’s nothing quite like a quiet corner in a coffee shop to gather your thoughts and begin writing. Let me know if I look away even once during our conversation.

What’s Thala 55 about?

That’s only the temporary title; it’s a form of reference to Ajith and his 55th film. The story traces the journey of a man between the age of 12 and 38. The boy has everything, growing up, and then suddenly it’s all taken away. What happens to him? The film, a drama, is made on a budget of around Rs. 50 crore and is the biggest of my career so far. It’s an intermingling of several things that have worked for me. There’s action, romance, and even a family angle. Ajith plays a sophisticated character, and if I had to title it in English, I’d probably call it Distinguished Gentleman.

I believe you started shooting with only around 75 per cent of the story being ready. Would the full story not enable you to infuse more detail into the narrative?

I write linearly without knowing the full story. I discover it as I write it. I knew Simbu and Trisha had to part in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa after travelling with their characters for months. Films like Vaaranam Aayiram and this one are about the changes in a person’s life over the years. What he becomes at 38 doesn’t quite affect what he was at 12. These stories are not plot-driven in that sense.

Does the pressure of working with a leading star in a big-budget film force you to make certain compromises?

Ajith helped a lot. The first thing he told me was to forget about the pressure. ‘I’m in your film,’ he said. I have travelled the length and breadth of the country with him. He is not one of those stars you have to be on guard with all the time. He allows you to relax and do your thing. In fact, whenever I was tempted to spice up a few lines and play to the gallery, he reminded me that it was a Gautham Vasudev Menon film and that I didn’t have to do that.

You have wanted to do a film with Ajith for quite a while, haven’t you?

Oh, yes. Even before Minnale, I approached him with the script of Kaakha Kaakha. I was supposed to do his 50th film, but that didn’t happen and Venkat Prabhu did Mankatha instead. I was supposed to do another, but the dates were pushed and Saran did Aasal. I guess, in a way, when it has to happen, it will.

What can Ajith fans expect?

He plays a dynamic character called Satyadev. His on-screen persona is quite different from his other films and he has four different looks too. I want to explore the possibility of making several films with Satyadev; make this a franchise like Dirty Harry. I had the same idea with a film called Dhruva Natchathiram but that didn’t take off.

Your last film, Neethaane En Ponvasantham, was criticised for its slow pace.

Truth be told, it is one of my favourite films. I guess it worked only for those who could relate themselves to the story. Even with Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, men who liked it called me up to tell me about the Jessie in their lives. Those who say her characterisation is not believable should ask if a man flinging a villain against an incoming train, only for him to bounce back, is any more believable. I don’t find too many people complaining about realism in such films. When I made Pachaikili Muthucharam, the same people had a problem with the idea that a man could be shown having an affair.

Did you aspire for realism again with Nadunisi Naaygal which didn’t do that well?

Well, people were furious that the lead character had sex with his ‘mother’. The woman wasn’t his mother at all in the first place! I don’t think the film was given a chance. There were several groups lobbying for its immediate removal from theatres. Perhaps they didn’t expect such a film from me, despite my warning that it wasn’t a romance.

Ravi K. Chandran, in a recent interview, with us, referred to his Yaan as a film as a glossy, romantic entertainer; like some of Gautham Menon’s films, he said.

I’m not sure mine are glossy. I call them slice-of-life films. For instance, you’d never have a hero in my film jumping off walls or flying to beat villains.

Your films do have songs as escapes, don’t they? That steps out of everyday life, wouldn’t you say?

I agree I have played to the gallery with some songs, but even there, I have tried to make them as real as possible. Look, I’m a die-hard romantic. On an overcast afternoon like now, I’d love to be sitting by my window with a cup of hot chocolate and a pretty woman (my wife) by my side. Such situations awaken songs in my head. When Simbu sees Trisha for the first time in VTV, he jumps over the gate and dances. Suriya (Vaaranam Aayiram) breaks into song when he sees Sameera Reddy for the first time. I try as often as I can to show experiences through songs, like in ‘Manjal Veyil’ (Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu) when the song plays but the actors don’t lip-sync. There’s a similar song here with Trisha and Ajith that goes ‘Mazhai Vara Pogudhu, Thuli Vara Thoorudhu, Nenayaamal Enna Seiven’.

It must also be difficult to resist the temptation of shooting the songs composed by the likes of A. R. Rahman or Ilaiyaraaja and Harris Jayaraj.

Yes, sometimes you can’t help but get carried away by the quality of the composer. For instance, ‘Kaatrai Konjam Nikka Sonnen’ (Neethaane En Ponvasantham) became a full-fledged song after I heard part of it and insisted that Ilaiyaraaja give me the complete track. In VTV, ‘Aaromale’ came as an afterthought. You want to get as many great tracks as possible out of such composers. In fact, I’ve never said no to any tunes given to me by them. Never asked for replacements.

What are your thoughts about making Hollywood-inspired films? that are ‘inspired’ by Hollywood hits?

If it’s a random line that inspires you to come up with a new story, that’s fine. However, the original creators must be approached for rights. For instance, I wanted the film rights for Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns and Kite Runner. But I was told Hollywood had picked it up, so I backed off.

What about Pachaikili Muthucharam inspired by Derailed? The body-in-the-box scene in Kaakha Kaakha was allegedly to have been motivated by Se7en. Some argue that VTV has influences from 500 Days of Summer.

Anurag Kashyap gave me the book (Derailed) and asked me to make a Tamil version. The publishers told me that Hollywood was making a similar film, but said it was all right that I go ahead and I did. About Se7en, I learnt of the scene after I’d shot it. I didn’t want to reshoot it but in the Telugu version, you’ll see that I have shot it differently. I haven’t yet seen 500 Days of Summer but 20th Century Fox saw VTV and requested me to make the Hindi version. I don’t believe it would have happened had the company had doubts. I firmly believe in copyrights and am put off by plagiarism.

Women in your film sometimes are usually strong characters, and sometimes more extroverted than the hero (Maya in Kaakha Kaakha and Nithya Vasudevan in Neethaane En Ponvasantham). Do you do that to fulfil a your social responsibility as a filmmaker?

Oh, no. Writing these roles comes naturally. All the women close to me — my mother, sister, wife and friends — are strong and independent. Also, I don’t like the women in my film to show skin. For instance, for a song in this film, we had a sequence with gangsters where I noticed that some women had on low-waisted saris. I re-shot the sequence immediately. I am not one to stare at women and I won’t encourage it through my films. I look at them in the eye when talking.

To quote a line from ‘Ondra Rendaa’ in Kaakha Kaakha,‘kangalai nera paarthudhaan nee pesum thoranai pidikkudhe.’

(Laughs) Hey, you remembered! I wrote that line in English and asked Thamarai to translate it.

Your heroes fall in love pretty quickly though.

Well, it’s like that sometimes in real life. is it not? In fact, in this film with Ajith, Anushka expresses her loves for him, and before he can respond, she tells him that her love stands even if he is already married. Many other Tamil films show the heroine hating the hero for the first half hour and suddenly falling in love. I think that’s more unbelievable.

You are often asked about the use of English in your films, aren’t you?

Well, what’s wrong, I ask in return. That’s how we talk in real life. If somebody in the audience doesn’t understand the English, I’m sure they will have somebody else tell them what just happened. It’s not like I’m showing a milkman talking English. Do you know of one couple who tells each other “Naan unnai kadhalikkiren”?

The Big Break for Parvathy Nair

Chennai: She was the youngest anchor to do an English programme in Rosebowl. A tenth grade student then, Parvathy began getting many offers to act in commercials and films too. But her parents refused to let her act because of her studies. Now, the same nerdy studious girl is waiting for her release, Uthama Villain with Kamal Haasan and Thala 55 with Ajith.

“I am really excited to see myself on the big screen sharing screen space with Kamal sir. I would say it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to act with such a legend. My character is scripted by him. I was a bit nervous in the beginning. But Kamal sir made me feel at ease during the shoot. Getting appreciation from him is very special,” Parvathy says. She plays the love interest of Kamal Haasan’s son in the film.

Parvathy says that when she got a call from Kamal’s office, she thought someone was playing a prank. Its only when it was followed by many more calls, she understood that it was, indeed, genuine and responded. “Rest of the cast included known actors, and I wondered why they had chosen me. But to my surprise, I was told that my face suited the character,” she chuckles.

After Uthama Villain, her next outing in Tamil will be the Gautham Menon-Ajith film, tentatively titled Thala 55. “I can’t hide my excitement to be a part of Gautham Menon’s film. I’m not at liberty to divulge any details about the film,” she smiles.

Parvathy, who has done more than a 100 commercials in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, was an active member of theatre clubs in school and college. As a school girl, she had won a Guinness certificate for being part of team that made the longest painting in the world. After being crowned Miss Karnataka in 2009, Parvathy became a recognised face in all the south Indian languages. “I wanted to participate in the Miss India beauty pageant. But due to the height eligibility, I couldn’t apply. I’m 5.5’, but their criterion was 5.6’ and above,” she adds.

Very Very Interesting tid-bits of news related to Thala55. Everything associated with this movie is a first except for Ajith-Trisha and Ajith-AMR pairing again. Please correct me if I am wrong.

As per the news, everybody is wanting to give their best shot because it is Ajith-GVM movie and they will get good recognition if the movie clicks among all audiences.

The most interesting and thrilling part to me will be the cinematography by Dan McArthur as he is relatively new to Tamil film or Indian film and also inexperienced about Thala's mass and wonder how he has shown Thala in each and every frame of the movie.

Thala 55 is progressing at a decent pace and is expected to be wrapped up by the end of November. The crew has recently canned the intro song ‘Adhaaru Adhaaru, Udhaaru Udhaaru’ which was choreographed by Sathish.

A reliable source in the know has brought it to our knowledge that Thala55 is made on a towering budget of 65 crores.
Though this is something usual for an Ajith film,:bow: the source revealed that this is Gautham Menon’s costliest film till date

. In order to ensure a perfect product, the director is working hard to satisfy both Ajith fans and the common audience.

Thala55 has Ajith, Trisha, Anushka, Arun Vijay and Vivek amongst its main starcast. The film has cinematography by Dan Macarthur, who previously worked in Go Goa Gone. Harris Jayaraj has composed five tunes for this film, and will begin working on the BGM in his new studio.

Moreover, this is the first ever time, a film’s first look poster has garnered such huge incredulous response. The film’s title was announced last night around 12 a.m. and the first look poster featuring Ajith Kumar was unveiled before few minutes. In addition to this, this could be the only film ever in Indian cinema to have been trending even without the title being announced. Such has become the enormous fame of Ajith Kumar.

Khaka Khaka attributes the "telescopic" nature of the character, where as VV empashises on the word "Aadu" (sheep).

Yennai Arindhal tamil font-style chosen falls in the same category, in the sense gives it a catchy look on the character.

'Yennai' resembles a fist - bent in fingers towards the palm and held tightly, with 'sharp' knuckles.

'Arindhal' is just chained together, the highlight is the inclined bends and turns, the curves resembling a bit to Arambham title font.

Its the 3 little dots that caught my attention, and I stick to what I mentioned yesterday. Yennai Arindhal is an apt title if you consider what you are looking out :

The Chased : The villian, laughing at the chaser for not finding him yet - 'Yennai Arindhal' you would have caught me well before.

The Chaser : (that got to be Ajith). His perseverance - 'You really don't know me, do you'.

The Conspirator : "Yennai Arindhal", you wouldn't have trusted me.

So there is a large scope of suspense here, but I have to wait for the film to see how GVM has fared.

I have some guesses on story of the movie just joining the dots that GVM told in interviews - during Thala 50 want this movie to be like Bourne series
- journey of a man from the age of 12 to 38
- wanted this movie to be like dirty harry series
- there is flag in the place of dots (in title) and obviously title is 《Yennai Arinthal》which amounts to suspense.
- Arun Vijay villan but friend of Ajith
- without anushka story won't move and without trisha there is no story

I'm getting it half and not the other but would like to wait till teaser or trailer comes out
