Bro.....GVM-HJ combo is always popular for their mindblowing music sense...all their films Minnale,Kaaka Kaaka,Vettayadu Vilayadu,Pahaikili Muththucharam and Vaaranam 1000 had catchy tunes and feel good BGM..with thala being the hero the output will be aimed at bigger level

Chennai nights for Ajith in 'Thala 55'

The 'Thala 55' team was recently in Malaysia for a short period of 4 days to shoot some important scenes inside an aircraft and in the vicinity of the Kuala Lumpur international airport. Ajith and Anushka were involved in this schedule and the internet was buzzing with many images of the stars posing along with fans from the film's shooting spots.

The film is about 30% complete now and 60 to 70 more days of shooting are left for this A.M.Ratnam production. A majority of the remaining shoots would be done in Chennai. The team has already resumed shooting in the city after returning from Malaysia and recently, candid shots of Ajith were canned in the Mount Road area of Chennai at night.

Trisha is also there in the film as another lead heroine, and her portions are yet to be commenced. It is to be noted that Ajith would be seen in a youthful makeover for the portions involving Trisha.

Ajith's Gautham Menon directed untitled action thriller refered by fans as Thala55 is making rapid progress. The film features Ajith , Anushka ,Trisha and Arun Vijay in the leading roles.

Thala55 soundtrack and background music is being composed by Harris Jayaraj , while Australian cameraman Dan Macarthur is the cinematographer. Gautham and Harris are together again after a five year break.
The shooting for the film has been going on continuously in Chennai, with a break to travel to Malaysia to shoot some scenes inside an aircraft. Now back in Chennai, the unit is shooting again mainly during the night in OMR and ECR
locations..

The buzz is that this will be the fastest Gautham Menon shoot and he will wrap up the film by September end, for a November release. AM Ratnam is producing the film, which will be released through Ayngaran and Eros International.

After delivering back to back hit film in 'Arrambam' and 'Veeram', actor Ajith has joined with director Gautham Vasudev Menon the association which took off and failed to materialize in the past. The shoot of the film commenced in April and it is going on in full swing.

The film is predominantly set in Chennai and Ajith is reportedly playing the role of an investigative cop in the film. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the star is playing a dual role and the details of the other role are kept as a secret. Sources also reveal that the title of the film may be 'Sathya' since one of the character names of Ajith in the film is Sathyadev.

Anushka pairs up with Ajith for the first time in this film while Trisha joins the star for the fourth time in the career. Arun Vijay and Vivekh have been roped in for crucial roles.

Harris Jayaraj has teamed up with the director after a gap of six years to score music for this highly anticipated flick. Don MacArthur has been roped in to crank the camera.

The film is being produced by A.M.Ratnam under Sri Satya Sai Movies banner and it is expected to release in November.

Ajith 55 teaser release date

According to sources in the tinsel town, director Gautham Menon is planning to release the teaser of Ajith 55 in August. With nearly half of the film shot, the director is contemplating on releasing the teaser to up the suspense factor.

Before the teaser launch, we expect the director to announce the title of the film. Ajith 55, as it is now referred to, stars Ajith in the lead with Anushka and Trisha playing his leading ladies. Harris Jayaraj is scoring the music for this film.

Thala 55 makes brisk progress
Ajith's untitled Gautham Menon film for producer AM Ratnam is making brisk progress. New working stills from the film have been leaked on the net. The next schedule of the film will start in Chennai within a week???s time. The film has Ajith, Anushka, Trisha, Vivek and Arun Vijay in the lead.

தினமும் 8 மணி நேரம் ஜிம்மில் பயிற்சி செய்கிறார் அஜீத்!


கெளதம்மேனன் இயக்கத்தில், அஜீத் நடித்து வரும் 55வது படத்தில் இரண்டு கெட்டப்புகளில் நடிக்கிறார். அண்ணன்-தம்பி என இரண்டு விதமான கெட்டப்புகளில் நடிப்பவர், இதுவரை அண்ணன் வேடத்தில் நடித்துக்கொண்டிருநதார். புலனாய்வு செய்யும் போலீஸ அதிகாரி வேடம் என்பதால், தனது உடல் எடையில் எந்தவித மாற்றம் செய்யாமல் அப்படியே நடித்தார்.

ஆனால், அந்த வேடத்துக்கான அனைத்து காட்சிகளும் தற்போது படமாக்கப்பட்டு விட்டதாம். அதனால் கடந்த ஒரு மாத காலமாக இளவட்ட அஜீத்தாக அதாவது தம்பி வேடத்தில் நடிப்பதற்காக தனது உடல் எடையை குறைத்து இளமையாக மாறிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார் அஜீத். இதற்காக, தீவிர டயட்ஸ் கடைபிடித்து வரும் அஜீத், தினமும் 8 மணி நேரம் ஜிம்மில் கடின உடற்பயிற்சி செய்கிறார்.

ஏற்கனவே அவர் ஆரம்பம் படத்தில் நடித்தபோது மும்பையில் இருந்து வந்து அவருக்கு உடல் இளைக்க பயிற்சி கொடுத்த அதே நபர் இப்போதும் வரவழைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளாராம். அவரது ஆலோசனையின்பேரில் உடல் எடை குறைத்து வந்த அஜீத், தற்போது கணிசமான அளவு எடை குறைத்து விட்டார். அதனால், இன்னும் ஒரு வாரத்திற்குள் அடுத்தகட்ட படப்பிடிப்பை தொடங்க திட்டமிட்டுள்ளாராம் கெளதம்மேனன்.

அதோடு, இதுவரை அனுஷ்காவுடன் நடித்து வந்த அஜீத், இனிமேல் த்ரிஷாவுடன் நடிக்கிறார். இனி அவர்கள் நடிக்கப்போகும் காட்சிகள் அனைத்தும் படத்தில் பிளாஷ்பேக் காட்சிகளாகத்தான் வருகிறதாம். அப்போதுதான் இளவட்ட அஜீத்தின் காதலியான த்ரிஷா, மர்மமான முறையில் கொலை செய்யப்படுவாராம். அதனால் கடந்த சில மாதங்களாக தென் அமெரிக்காவுக்கு டூர் அடித்திருந்த த்ரிஷாவும் தற்போது சென்னையில் முகாமிட்டுள்ளார்.

Mega Plan of Ajith – Gautham Menon Project

Ajith is one star who is not keen on attending any public functions. He also keeps himself away from attending functions related to his films. But producer AM Rathnam is planning a grand function to announce the title of their project and Ajith has assented to grace the occasion, say sources.

Director Gautham Menon commenced this Ajith starrer without a title but this film is nearing completion now and plans are on to announce the title in grand function.

It is said that Ajith will be a part of this function making it even grander!

நம்ம உலகத்தோட டிரான்ஸ்பார்மர் இனி அவுட்தான் என்று இருட்டுக்குள் வாழ முடிவெடுக்கும் போதுதான் சிலருக்கு இறைவன் ‘டார்ச்’ அடிப்பான். அந்த டார்ச் வெளிச்சத்தை தயாரிப்பாளர் ஏ.எம்.ரத்னம் உணர்ந்த தருணம் எது?

‘ரொம்ப கஷ்டமா இருக்கே, ஒரு ஷிர்டி சாய்பாபா சிலையை வாங்கி ஆபிஸ்ல வைக்கலாமே’ என்று முடிவு பண்ணி இன்டர்நெட் மூலம் ஆர்டர் கொடுத்தாராம். சில தினங்கள் கழித்து அதை கொண்டு வந்தவர்கள் ஒரு பிரமாண்ட சிலையை லாரியிலிருந்து இறக்க ஆடிப்போனார் ரத்னம். ‘நாம கேட்டது டேபிளில் வைக்கிற சைஸ். இவங்க எடுத்துட்டு வந்ததோ, இவ்வளவு பெரிசு. திருப்பி அனுப்பவும் கூடாது. இதை வைக்க இடம் ஏது, பேசாம ஒரு கோவில்தான் கட்டணும்’ என்ற முடிவுக்கு வந்தார்.

தனது ஆபிஸ் வாசலிலேயே அந்த கோவிலை அமைத்தும் விட்டார். அன்றிலிருந்து அடித்தது யோகம். மறுநாளே அஜீத் அவரே விரும்பி அழைத்து கால்ஷீட் கொடுத்தார். ‘ஆரம்பம்’ ஆரம்பமானது. ஏ.எம்.ரத்னத்தின் நல்ல நேரமும் ஆரம்பம் ஆனது. இப்போது அந்த கோவிலுக்கு தினந்தோறும் வருகிற கூட்டம் எவ்வளவு தெரியுமா? சுமார் ஆறாயிரம் பேர்!

அவ்வப்போது அஜீத்தும் பேமிலியோடு வருகிறார். ஏ.எம்.ரத்னமும் அஜீத்துமே கூட ஒரு முறை சாய்பாபா அடக்கமாகியிருக்கும் ஷிர்டிக்கு சென்று வந்தார்களாம்.

It is often said and quoted in many articles citing the similarities between Superstar Rajini and Thala Ajith. Even though they lead a tremendous fan base in TN, they have never made use of their popularity for their personal issues. The most stunning fact is, they are yet to endorse a brand and going by their ideologies they never vouch for anything in the future too. The team 'Lingaa' & 'Thala 55' unit are stunned to see the professionalism and down to earth nature of these two high profile actors.

In-spite of the hectic schedule, Rajni is pretty much approachable in the sets of 'Lingaa' in Hyderabad. He treats the industry people and fans with his trademark style and poses for umpteen number of photos. Given his health condition and never ending rumors in the recent times that he fainted in the sets, he still spends most of his time with the unit and hardly gets in to his personal Caravan.

Similar to Rajini, Ajith is extremely patient and gives 100 percent towards his project with Gautham Vasudev Menon. Though the script demands back to back midnight and early morning shoot, he wears a pleasant smile and he too likes spending his time with the unit rather comforting himself in the Caravan. And, the unit never saw Ajith leaving the set after his portions unless Gautham asks him to.

Well, this show that the Superstars are not born, they are made out of their excellent character.

அஜித் - கெளதம் மேனன் படத்திற்கு என்ன தலைப்பு, இன்று எங்கு ஷுட்டிங் என எந்த ஒரு செய்தியைக் கேட்டாலும் படக்குழுவிடம் இருந்து வரும் பதில் தெரியாது என்பது தான். அந்தளவிற்கு படக்குழு, படத்தைப் பற்றி எந்தொரு தகவலையும் கசிந்துவிடக் கூடாது என்பதில் மிகவும் கவனமாக இருக்கிறது.

படத்தைப் பற்றி யாரிடமாவது தகவலைப் பெற்றுவிட வேண்டும் என்ற முனைப்போடு அப்படக்குழுவில் பணியாற்றி வருபவருடன் பேசினேன். அவர் கூறிய வார்த்தைகள் அப்படியே..

"அஜித் - கெளதம் மேனன் படப்பிடிப்பு என்று துவங்கப்பட்டதோ, அன்றே முடிவு செய்துவிட்டோம், படப்பிடிப்பு எங்கே என்பது படக்குழுவிற்கு கடைசி நேரத்தில் தான் தெரியும் . முதலில் கலை இயக்குநர் உள்ளிட்ட சிலருக்கு மட்டும் நாளைக்கு இந்த காட்சிக்கு இங்கே எடுக்கிறோம் என்பார்கள். ஏனென்றால், எங்கு படப்பிடிப்பு நடந்தாலும் அஜித் ரசிகர்கள் கூடிவிடுகிறார்கள். படப்பிடிப்பிற்கு மிகவும் இடையூறாக இருக்கிறது.

இப்படத்தின் படப்பிடிப்பு தளத்தில் அஜித் நடந்துக் கொள்ளும் விதத்தை பற்றி கண்டிப்பாக கூற வேண்டும். இப்படத்தில் தனது பாத்திரத்திற்காக 'மங்காத்தா', 'ஆரம்பம்' படங்களை விட எடையைக் குறைத்து இருக்கிறார். 'ஆரம்பம்' படத்தின் லுக்கை விட இப்படத்தில் இன்னும் ஸ்லிம்மாக இருப்பார். மிகப்பெரியளவில் எடையைக் குறைக்க அவர் ஊசியோ, மாத்திரைகளோ எடுத்துக் கொள்ளவில்லை. அவருக்கு முதுகு மற்றும் கால்களில் இருக்கும் பிரச்சினை உங்களுக்கே தெரியும். சிறு சிறு உடற்பயிற்சிகளை மட்டுமே செய்து உடல் எடையை வெகுவாகவே குறைத்திருக்கிறார் என்றால் எவ்வளவு வெறித்தனமாக செய்திருப்பார் என்று யூகித்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள்.

அதுமட்டுமன்றி, படப்பிடிப்பு நடைபெறும் இடத்தில் அஜித்திற்கு என்று தனியாக கேராவேன் இருக்கும். ஆனால், அதை காட்சிகளுக்கு உடை மாற்ற மட்டுமே உபயோகப்படுத்துவார். காலை 10 மணிக்கு வந்தார் என்றால், அன்றைய காஸ்ட்டியூமை கேராவேனில் மாற்றிவிட்டு படப்பிடிப்பிற்கு வருவார். சாயங்காலம் வரை அதே காஸ்ட்டியூம் என்றால் எங்களுடன் தான் இருப்பார். சாப்பாடு எல்லாம் எங்களுடன் தான்.

ஒரு முறை காலை 10 மணிக்கு வந்தார், இரவு வரை படப்பிடிப்பு சென்றுக் கொண்டே இருந்தது. அன்றைய தினம் இயக்குநரிடம் சென்று மாலை 6 மணியோடு என்னோட கால்ஷீட் முடித்துவிட்டது என்று கிளம்பவில்லை. இயக்குநர் உங்கள் காட்சி முடிந்தது என்றவுடன் தான் கிளம்புவார். இவ்வளவு சிம்பிளாக இருக்கும் ஒரு நடிகரை நான் பார்த்ததே இல்லை.

ரஜினியும் எப்போதுமே கேராவேன் உபயோகிக்க மாட்டார் என்று சொல்வார்கள். மிகவும் சிம்பிளாக இருப்பதால் தான் அனைவருமே சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் என்றார்கள். ரஜினிக்கு பிறகு அஜித் தான் மிகவும் சிம்பிளாக இருக்கிறார்.

சென்னையில் மவுண்ட் ரோட்டில் 10 நாட்கள் இரவில் படப்பிடிப்பு நடத்தினோம். அங்கு படப்பிடிப்பு நடத்த அனுமதி கிடைப்பதே அரிது. அங்கு அனுமதி வாங்கியவுடன், படப்பிடிப்புக்கு எந்த பிரச்சினையும் வரக்கூடாது என்று முடிவு செய்தோம். இறுதியில் ஆள் நடமாட்டம் இல்லாமல் இரவு நேரத்தில் சென்று அதிகாலை திரும்பி விடுவோம்.

மவுண்ட் ரோடு காட்சிகளில் அஜித் மாருதி கார் தான் ஒட்டுவார். மற்றொரு நடிகர் என்றால் அதில் நடிக்க சம்மதித்திருக்க மாட்டார்கள். காரணம், அவ்வளவு குறுகிய காரில் கேமிரா பொருத்தி சேஸிங் காட்சிகள் எடுத்தோம். என்ன சொன்னாலும், கஷ்டமாச்சே என்று கொஞ்சம் கூட மூஞ்சை சுழிக்க மாட்டார். அவ்வளவு கஷ்டப்பட்டு அதில் நடித்துக் கொடுத்தார்.

தற்போது 50% படப்பிடிப்பு முடிந்துவிட்டது. அஜித், த்ரிஷா, தேவி அஜித், குழந்தை அனிகா பங்குபெறும் படப்பிடிப்பு தற்போது நடைபெற்று வருகிறது. அஜித் என்ன கேரக்டரில் நடிக்கிறார், படத்தின் என்ன வகை கதை எல்லாம் என்னால் கூற முடியாது.

படப்பிடிப்பில் இருப்பதால் சொல்கிறேன். அஜித் ரசிகர்கள் இதுவரை அஜித்தை இவ்வளவு ஸ்டைலாக பார்த்திருக்க மாட்டார்கள். அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு மிகப்பெரிய விருந்து காத்திருக்கிறது என்பது மட்டும் உறுதி" என்றார்.

இப்படத்தில் அஜித், அனுஷ்கா, த்ரிஷா ஆகியோருடன் தேவி அஜித் என்ற மலையாள நடிகை முக்கிய வேடத்தில் நடித்து வருகிறார். அதுமட்டுமன்றி, கேரள அரசு விருது வென்ற அனிகா முக்கிய வேடத்தில் நடிக்கிறார். அஜித் - த்ரிஷா இருவருக்கும் அனிகா குழந்தையாக நடித்து வருகிறார் என்று செய்திகள் வெளியாகியுள்ளன.

தாமரையின் வரிகளில் கார்த்திக் பாடும் ஒரு ரெமாண்டிக் பாடல் ஒன்றை பதிவு செய்திருக்கிறார் ஹாரிஸ் ஜெயராஜ். அஜித், த்ரிஷா இருவரும் இப்பாடலுக்கு நடனமாட இருக்கிறார்கள்.

The cast of 'Thala 55' keeps getting bigger and bigger, with progress in the movie's production. It is heard that about 50% of the film is complete.

Malayalam child artiste Anikha Surendran has been chosen to play Ajith - Trisha's onscreen kid. 'Thalaivasal' Vijay has also been roped in to the movie's cast, along with another Malayalam actress Devi Ajith (as reported earlier)

'Thalaivasal' Vijay and Ajith have shared the screen space in quite a few films, most notably in the blockbuster Kadhal Kottai early in Ajith's career.

Kamal's blockbuster title for 'Thala 55'?

Gautham Vasudev Menon & Ajith's movie keeps feeding news everyday for some reason or other. There were speculations that Gautham has decided the title and he is all set to reveal in the first week of August. Now the latest is, the team has ticked the 1988 blockbuster 'Sathya' because they could see a connection to the title and the character's name of Ajith as, Sathyadev.

The film's shooting is taking place without a break in and around the capital city featuring, Ajith, Trisha, Baby Anikha, Devi Ajith, and Thalaivasal Vijay. Meanwhile, Harris Jayaraj has completed recording a soulful melody with his regular, Karthik, who rendered some brilliant tracks in the past for Harris. The fans are waiting with bated breath to know the title of their beloved star, and hopefully, Gautham Menon will announce the title in the next few days.

'Thala 55' - packed with fiery, memorable lines

With Ajith's current film directed by Gautham Menon (fondly referred as Thala 55) being a heavy-duty cop story, we hear that the film would be having a lot of fiery, memorable dialogues. Gautham's dialogues are known to pack quite a punch and are particularly a big favourite with the urban audiences. We can expect some fireworks in 'Thala 55' too, on the lines of what we heard in Kaakha Kaakha and Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu.

So far, about 40 days of shoots have been done for 'Thala 55' and the filming is expected to go on for atleast 2 more months. One montage song has been shot so far, and Harris Jayaraj is busy coming up with some memorable tunes yet again for Gautham Menon.

We also hear that the team is currently camping in Chennai and are shooting along the ECR stretch.

Thala Ajith seems to be changing his looks for the two heroines Trisha and Anushka in his next flick directed by Gautham Menon. Ajith is playing a dad to a little girl in the film with Trisha being his wife. The star actor is said to be shooting with a black hair for these portions.

Ajith would be back to his natural grey haired look when he starts shooting again with Anushka. The film's title hasn't been confirmed yet; however, it's being referred to as 'Thala 55' by Ajith's fans. This will be the fourth time Trisha will be teaming up with Ajith and the second time with Gautham Menon after her notable character Jessie in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya. Anushka Shetty also plays a pivotal role in the film.

She is presently working with Gautham Menon for the second time, after the stupendous success of Vinnai Thandi Varuvaaya (VTV) in 2010. While VTV was a romantic love story, this new film will showcase her in a different light, says Trisha. “This flick is much more intense and the movie is an action one unlike VTV," she said, talking about the new film. The expectations of Ajith's flick with Gautham Menon has been high ever since the project was announced. The film starring Ajith, Anushka and Trisha is being referred to as 'Thala 55' by fans and media. The film's title hasn't been confirmed yet; however, the latest buzz in k-town is that the film has been titled 'Aayiram Thottakal'.

Exclusive: Ajith to sport one more look for Thala 55 in the upcoming schedule

So far, Ajith has been spotted in Thala 55 sets in salt-and-pepper look and an all-black hair do. Now, we bring you another exclusive news that Thala will be sporting a new look in the upcoming schedule of the film, where the story goes further in time. “In the next schedules, we are going back further in time as well. So, he will change his look again. But, it’s all top secret and I can’t let the cat out of the bag,” says Dan Macarthur, the cinematographer of Thala 55 to us.
The team is all set to head to north for their next schedule. And crucial scenes will be shot in misty locations up north for the next one month. The team is likely to commence the next scheduel this week. Meanwhile, there are no signs of first look posters coming out today.

Interview with Dan Macarthur; Cinematographer of Thala55
In Australia, Dan Macarthur is known as an award-winning cinematographer, for his collaboration with Russel Crowe and Pitbull, and also as a writer-director of the soon-to-be-released English feature film Nice Package, a gangster comedy. But in Tamil Nadu, Dan Macarthur is unanimously known as “The Thala 55 Cinematographer.” In a freewheeling conversation with Only Kollywood, Dan talks about his tryst with Indian cinema, how he tasted the best ever food in Ajith’s biriyani, his healthy relationship with Gautham Vasudev Menon and his passion for experimenting new things.
Entry to Indian cinema
For starters, Thala 55 is not Dan Macarthur’s first professional assignment in India. He earlier worked in the Bollywood film Go Goa Gone, touted as India’s first zombie comedy. “It happened through Jordi Cirbian, the Spanish sound designer of the film. I worked with him in Australia and he connected me to directors Krish DK and Raj. It was a lot of fun shooting in Goa,” recalls Dan.
Encounter with Gautham Vasudev Menon
The writer from Go Goa Gone put his name forward to Gautham Menon. “We just spoke on phone and discussed for a while. Then I was here in Chennai working for Gautham’s film with Suriya,” says Dan. Remember Dhruva Natchathiram? That was Dan’s first work in Tamil where he conducted test photo shoots for Suriya. But, the film was dropped. Later, Gautham roped him in as cameraman for Simbu’s Sattendru Maaruthu Vaanilai, but it was put on hold. Somehow, Dan’s entry into Tamil cinema was jinxed, you may think. However, the first successful collaboration between Gautham and Dan happened with the ‘7 UP Party Time’ TVC featuring Simbu. “During test shoots, Gautham was happy that I put together couple of small things very effectively with little lighting and in a quick manner. He really enjoyed that,” says Dan. And then, as you all know, Thala 55 happened and is under progress.
“Our relationship is going on well. He is always relaxed on sets. We agree on one thing – keep it simple and get quick results. He is so easy to work with and communicates what he’s trying to go for really well,” Dan tells me about his rapport with Gautham. Having continuously worked in Thala 55 for the past three months, Dan doesn’t find any difference between Bollywood and Kollywood , except that ‘bollywood is in a hurry whereas here people are more relaxed,’ observes Dan. Now, you know why Dan is getting along with Gautham well.
“Sometime I used to chip in with my ideas and if he likes, he incorporates it in the scene. A couple of times I’ve influenced his ideas in a way the audience wouldn’t notice, but Gautham will have his signature in each scene nevertheless,” says Dan.
And, Dan is aware that Gautham Menon will be completing his police trilogy with Thala 55 after Kaakha Kaakha and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. In fact, he has seen few scenes from those films, but he wouldn’t risk the ordeal of pronouncing its names. “Gautham has shown me bits and pieces of his films. I’m really looking forward to watch them,” says Dan.
Taking the digital plunge
Dan is using Arri Alexa for the film because he feels it’s simple and easy to use. “This is Gautham’s first digital experience. We dan macarthur interview pic 2started Simbu’s film with the Red Epic camera since we wanted a smaller camera for the project and now moved on to Arri Alexa, which is always my preferred one. Gautham is really enjoying this digital shift. He is learning how helpful it is and how much freedom it offers a filmmaker,” Dan tells us. And Dan prefers digital over film for the endless advantages and avenues the former provides and also because ‘less chemicals = less pollution in the world.’ That’s some perspective the recent digital-vs-film debates easily overlook.
Dan is highly conscious about not giving away anything from the story when we quizzed him about the color tone incorporated for the film. “The film does go into the past a lot and it dwells on the present later. Once you get into the gradient of the film, we have utilized few manipulative techniques to provide viewers different looks. There are a lot of dark scenes in the film,” says Dan.
Ajith, the guitarist
“There are a couple of good songs in the film. I can’t really get them out of my head,” says Dan. And then we quickly informed him that Gautham Menon is a good singer too. “Yes, I’m aware of that. I keep asking him, but I haven’t heard him sing yet,” he says. Dan’s repertoire doesn’t end with feature films. He also has a vast experience working behind-the-lens for a sizeable number of international music videos. In leisure time, Dan and Ajith play music together on sets and we also learnt that Ajith is eagerly learning guitar.
Snow-covered locations up north for the next schedule
Thala 55 has been shodan macarthur interview 9t across the length and breadth of Chennai – in East Coast Road, Mount road and in few locations in Hyderabad and Malaysia. “The conditions were more challenging to shoot across different locations. One of our biggest challenges was shooting a big fight scene in a hospital which was so hot and incredibly humid. We filmed right in the middle of the heat,” sighs Dan.
“We still got some more travelling to do in the next couple of weeks. We will be going up north; a whole bunch of travelling up there is in the offing. Probably, the most challenging days of the film are ahead. When you are in Chennai, everything is pretty handy but once you get up there, might be a different story” observes Dan. His Go Goa Gone shooting experience was confined to only Goa. He hasn’t been to other locations in north India before for shooting purposes. Though he’s not able to recall the places of future schedules, he’s been advised that they are snow-covered locations and wintry days are ahead. Dan is well-equipped for an invigorating experience and all excited to enjoy the brisk breeze.

Dan is well-aware about Ajith’s passion for racing and his fateful accidents. “There are few scenes where he’s riding a bike and driving cars. And, I’ve been in the backseat with him – with my camera – in the bike-riding sequence. So, when the camera is rolling and goes action, it’s pretty scary,” remembers Dan.
There is a driving sequence which amazed Gautham Menon for the way Dan pulled off the shot effortlessly with different lighting techniques aided by cameras spread all over the spot. Gautham’s reaction was like – “Oh my gosh! I can’t believe it. He did this.” The scene has come out well and will look more realistic on screen, assures Dan.
“I also pushed for Ajith’s driving around for real and filmed in the car – to get away from the flatbed. It gives so much realism shooting the real thing from different angles,” Dan tells us. “There are also funny incidents where Ajith used to wake up at 6 AM, just walk around the street, run in middle of the road for a shot and just pack up – before thousands of people woke up,” says Dan on a funny note.
Like Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya, Gautham has done it again in Thala 55 – he has captured candid shots of the leads without their knowledge. “There are times when they will be getting ready for a shot but the camera would have started rolling already. Gautham strives to get a lot of realism for staging his scenes,” tells Dan.
Ajith – the fabulous human being!
Dan has earlier worked with Russell Crowe and his band ‘Thirty Odd Foot of Grunt’, shooting three of their music videos and an international tour documentary. And, he has also collaborated with American hip-hop artist Pitbull and the Kung Fu legend Gordon Lui of Kill Bill fame in the gangster action film Blood Money, for which he handled cinematography. But, Ajith’s immense fan following and his persona has floored him more.dan macarthur interview 5
“Ajith is a massive icon here and he truly deserves it. He is so down-to-earth. He is so kind. He treats everyone in the crew exactly the same. When he arrives, he says hello to the unit men, hello to the production people just much as he says hello to everyone else. He’s just been great to work with because he’s such a nice guy, really hard-working and so polite” gushes Dan.
“And, he is really a good cook. A couple of times, he just made a huge pot of Biriyani for the entire crew and it’s the best food he ever tasted,” Dan adds.
Ajith’s photography experiments
And, the photographer in Ajith is currently on an experimenting spree. “He’s been taking a lot of black and white pictures and experimenting with them. He’s been asking me a lot of questions and he said he’s got inspired by my lighting. He enjoys a lot,” Dan observes.
Also, Dan doesn’t find any difference between Ajith’s off-screen and on screen personality. “He acts from the heart. I don’t think he changes his personality and becomes someone else. The person you see off screen is the same person as you see on the screen. He reads the scenes, understands and prepares himself mentally for the shot. He is a really natural actor. Off screen, he carries no ego and helps everyone feel good. And onscreen, obviously, his character is little bit larger-than-life because he plays the hero. He has so much of experience and exactly knows what his fans like. Otherwise, I don’t see any transformation in him off-screen and on screen. He is the same person,” remarks Dan.
“He is just enjoying himself a lot in the film. He jokes a lot on sets, and is always fun to be around. And, there is no yelling and screaming on the sets – more jests and laughs than anything else,” adds Dan.

Dan Macarthur is a busy man. He hasn’t signed any projects in Tamil, but he will start Gautham Menon – Simbu’s next once Thala 55 gets completed and he says a lot of projects are waiting in Australia. People are actually advising him to buy a permanent house in Chennai, but we are not sure if he’s mulling over that thought. Dan has a passion for experimenting new things with his camera and lighting. “If you are doing a job and you don’t want to start getting bored, you always should try to experiment every day to make it more interesting,” Dan tells us.
Thala’s all-black hairdo
“Basically, it’s just the different time passages in the story. It comes when he is younger – in the flashback”, says Dan about the all-black hairdo of Ajith. “In the next schedules, we are going back further in time as well. So, he will change his look again. But, it’s all top secret and I can’t let the cat out of the bag,” alerts Dan.
“Trisha’s character comes across as a confident girl and Anushka has an interesting character too and she is a lovely person as well. Ajith and Trisha get along really well. Every time they meet, they have lots to chat about,” says Dan.
Gamut of emotions in Thala 55
“Gautham’s female characters always inspire respect. He has strong female leads. He is so good at capturing emotions in all the dan macarthur interview 8relationships, not just the romantic relationships. He has a great insight into capturing the natural emotion, be it the relationship between the father – daughter or between the mother –son. I can’t give it away, but there are a couple of amazing emotional scenes in the film which will leave you teary-eyed. ” notices Dan.
Dan enjoys this ability of Gautham so much – “he can make you laugh, make you cry, make you cheer, make you get angry at the baddies and his gamut of emotions are topnotch,” says Dan.
“Gautham really does push the boundaries hard and I think the audiences are going to be quite amazed by the roller-coaster ride the film is,” says Dan on a finishing note.

Has played in several bands since the early nineties but his love of film left his musical interests to a part time hobby he intends to take up more seriously at a later date.Dan recently wrote, produced and directed his debut feature ‘Nice Package’ starring Dwayne Cameron (Tribe) in post production to be released in 2014. Nice Package has been acquired by The Shoreline Entertainment and New Line Cinemas for release. It’s also selected for screening at Cannes Film Market this year. Wonderful. Reminds me of 'The Great Escape' movie Bike. Also, a model that is so close to Java & Yezdi, the two wheelers that ruled the 70s & 80s. The stunt-man Azhagu used to go around with his Yezdi, it was so 'cool' to watch him drive past.

Few colors on some people do funny things on their look. Kakki on Ajith camouflages his physic. Magically his head becomes tiny, making it dispropotional to his body. Thats during Anjaneya days. His travel from there was impressive, how he has toned himself as an actor with an aura around him. His few shots in Kakki in Mankatha indicated such change. Now, the Kakki is bending down to his physic. Eventhough we are yet to see his full attire in a Police uniform for this movie, the released photographs certainly indicate that Ajith will take a place in the fabulous TFI Cop reign.

Look at the Kakki on Mahesh Babu in Aagadu, he is another actor who is going unstoppable. On Surya, Vikram and Kamal, it just sits perfect. On Rajini, it gives problem with his lower part, where Kakki makes his legs look like tiny twigs, eventhough, the torso looks appealing. Samuthrakani & Kishore fit the bill, thanks to their skin color and the natural ruggedness. But the most suited ones are the character artists, in any movie.

There's a lot of buzz about the upcoming Ajith-Gautham Menon film. Pretty much everything about the film is being kept under wraps. We nail the elusive Gautham for a chat, and get him talking about this film, Ajith, Suriya and more. Gautham maintains, "I cannot reveal anything about Ajith's role, because the treatment of the film is such that during the first 45 minutes, the audience will be guessing who the man is. It's a character-driven film and Ajith's character, Sathyadev, is also a good sketch for a sequel. And if things go well, I can even come up one." But he gets candid about everything else. Excerpts...

Finally, a film with Ajith. How did it happen?
I wanted Ajith to act in Kaakha Khaakha and had approached him first. Then, it went to Vikram and then, finally Suriya. I was also supposed to do a film with Ajith when he was about to start Asal, then again, during Mankatha. We discussed a project, but couldn't start it. I don't have any reason as to why it didn't happen, it just didn't. Now, when the Suriya project was shelved and I was wondering what's next, Ajith's film came my way.

When Suriya released a statement saying he was walking out Dhruvva Natchathiram, why didn't you react?
He'd stated that I didn't tell him the script. But the question is, whether I didn't tell him the script at all, or didn't tell him the one he'd like to hear. I was disappointed, but only for three hours. After that, I just moved on. That night itself we started the Simbu film. The next week we started filming with Ajith. Since then things have only got better, so I thought why even talk about it.

Will you work with Suriya again?
Right now, I don't see that happening. Somewhere two people have to connect. Whenever I write a script, Trisha has been my first choice for lead because we have a good connect - like I feel with Ajith and the comfort level that I always feel with Simbu... till I feel that connect with somebody, I am not looking to work with that person.

Have you gone out of your comfort zone and added commercial elements for a mass hero?
When we sat and discussed the project, Ajith told me, 'let's make a film that you are comfortable with'. Even if I try to infuse extra commercial elements just for him, he usually says no to it. And also, I don't know how to commercialise anything, I have never done that. There is absolutely no pressure on me from any side.

Romance is your forte. Can we get to see a romantic Ajith?
Yes, absolutely. The audience will get to see a romantic Ajith in this film. We've shot a romantic song, Mazhai Varapoguthey, recently with Ajith and he has done it beautifully.

You haven't announced a title for this film, yet.
We have a title, but we want to wait before announcing it. There is so much buzz around it and this is exactly what a hero's film is all about. We are planning to release the film this December and the audio launch in November - we're planning to announce the title around this time.

We've heard that Ajith doesn't want his character's name highlighted in the title...
What you have heard is true...

When will you start working on the Simbu film again?
I have got just 30 days' shoot left for that film. I will re-start it as soon as I finish the current one. I know there are rumours that it has been shelved, but as I said earlier, I should be either rich or weird to drop this film. I am neither, so I will definitely start that film in December.

Ajith's 'Thala55' goes to Rajasthan

The next schedule of Thala Ajith and Gautham Menon's Thala55 will start today in Rajasthan. A song will be shot in picturesque Jaipur, Jhodpur and Jaisalmer for the next 10 days.

The song will be shot most likely on Ajith. Most of the shoot has so far happened in Chennai. A song was shot on Ajith and Anushka inside a plane in Malaysia.

A short schedule also happened in Hyderabad.

Thala55 will see Ajith in four different get-ups within the age range of 28 to 35.


After a few years, Harris Jayaraj has joined hands with Dir. Gautham Menon. Remember Harris-Gautham has always proved to be a hit pair.

Gautham Menon and producer AM Ratnam are trying their best to complete the shoot of Thala55 by October end. They are planning a audio launch by November first week and a Christmas release. If it gets delayed it will be a Pongal release.

இந்த வரிசையில் அஜித்தின் ஸ்விப்ட் காரும் காட்டப்படுகிறது. அஜித்தின் கார் காட்டப்படும்போது கைதட்டலில் தியேட்டரே அதிர்கிறது.
