If I am not mistaken, njavara rice is similar to our black glutinous rice.
We too make payasam or porridge as we call.
I am posting the picture and recipe, forgive me if it is not the same. Kugan
BLACK GLUTINOUS RICE PORRIDGE
Ingredients:
1 cup of black glutinous rice
1 1/2 litres water
2 pandan leaves knotted
3 tbs of brown sugar
60 grms palm sugar
1/2 litre second coconut milk
250 ml thick coconut milk
¼ tsp salt
Method:
Wash the glutinous rice thoroughly and soak for about 3 hours.
Put the soaked rice water and the pandan leaf in a pot.
Bring to a boil and simmer for about 30 minutes till the rice
is well cooked and mushy.
Add in the the two sugars and the 1/2 litre of coconut milk, cook well.
See that it does not stick to the pot.
You can add in little more water if the porridge is very thick.
Serve warm with slightly salted coconut milk poured over.

This is what I found in the net. There are many more links. I think you can get the black glutinous rice in India, also in the Asian countries.
Thanks to the net for the info.
Black rice is an unprocessed grain that is purplish in color. Black glutinous rice is a short-grained variety of black rice. It is also referred to as sticky or sweet black rice because of its viscous texture when cooked. According to a 2010 report from the American Chemical Society, black rice may have even more health benefits than brown rice. Purchase whole-grain varieties to reap the benefits of this healthy food.

Antioxidants
Antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables help protect cells from unstable molecule damage or free radicals. According to the Mayo Clinic, antioxidants help prevent cancer, Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular disease and macular degeneration. Black rice bran contains high levels of the antioxidant anthocyanins. Anthocyanin is a water soluble antioxidant that is common in blue and purple fruits. The American Chemical Society reported that you can eat 10 spoonfuls of steamed black rice to get the same amount of anthocyanins you would by eating a spoonful of fresh blueberries.
Fiber
Black rice has high fiber content because the bran is intact and is not processed, unlike milled white rice. The bran is the outer layer of the grain and contains insoluble fiber that aids in digestion. Keeping the bran is what makes brown and black rice healthier than white rice. A diet high in fiber helps reduce blood pressure and decrease the risk of coronary heart disease, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Vitamins & Minerals
Black rice also contains many essential vitamins and minerals. It contains high amounts of vitamin E, a fat soluble vitamin with antioxidant properties. Like most whole grains, black rice is a rich source of the B vitamins. Those vitamins play an integral role in the functioning of the metabolism and nervous system. Additionally, black rice is abundant in iron, magnesium and selenium, which assist in transporting oxygen through the body, energy production and maintaining a healthy immune system.
Reducing Inflammation
Inflammation is your body's response to foreign substances such as bacteria or viruses. Chronic inflammation is associated with diseases such as heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer's disease and many others. Black rice bran may help reduce inflammation. A study published in the October 2010 issue of the "Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry" found that black rice bran has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce allergy, asthma and other disease symptoms.
