'விஸ்வரூபம்' படம் ஆஸ்கருக்கு பரிந்துரைக்கப்படாததை எண்ணி கவலையில்லை என்று கூறியிருக்கிறார் கமல்ஹாசன்.

மும்பையில் நடைபெற்ற ஜக்ரன் திரைப்பட விழாவில் கமலுக்கு விருது வழங்கி கெளரவிக்கப்பட்டது. அவ்விழாவில் ஆஸ்கர் விருது பரிந்துரைப் பற்றி பேசியிருக்கிறார் கமல்ஹாசன்.

“இதுவரை என்னுடைய 7 படங்கள் ஆஸ்கர் விருதிற்கு பரிந்துரைக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கிறது. ஆனால் கிடைக்கவில்லை. அதுபற்றி எல்லாம் நான் கவலைப்படவில்லை.

'விஸ்வரூபம்', 'தி லஞ்ச் பாக்ஸ்' என பல படங்களுக்கு மத்தியில் 'தி குட் ரோடு' என்ற குஜராத்தி மொழி திரைப்படம் ஆஸ்கர் விருதிற்கு பரிந்துரைக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கிறது.

தற்போது 'விஸ்வரூபம் 2' படத்தின் இறுதி பணிகளில் மும்முரமாக ஈடுபட்டு வருகிறார் கமல். இந்தாண்டு இறுதியில் இப்படம் வெளிவரக் கூடும் என்று எதிர்ப்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

We've slowed down: Kamal on competition with Rajinikanth

Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan Friday said that he and superstar Rajinikanth used to compete aggressively earlier but not any more.

"Rajini and I used to release our films almost every Friday in the 1980s but not anymore. Today, we have slowed down, not because of our age, but because of budget constraints.
We can't afford to have the release of our big budget films on the same day," Kamal told reporters here.

He was speaking at the trailer launch of the digitally restored version of his 1977 Tamil film "16 Vayathinile", which also featured Rajinikanth in a negative role.

Directed by Bharathiraja, the commercially successful "16 Vayathinile", which was made on a meagre budget of Rs.4.5 lakh, saw Sridevi playing an important role.

Speaking at the event, Bharathiraja said: "Kamal was paid Rs.27,000 for the film. Rajini wanted Rs.5,000, but I convinced him for Rs.3,000 and eventually paid only Rs.2,500.

Budget was a big constraint for all of us back then."

Industry members such as filmmaker Bhagyaraj and actor-filmmaker Parthepan were also present at the event.

The film was remade in Telugu as "Padaharella Vayasu" with Chandra Mohan, Mohan Babu and Sridevi in the lead.

Kamal, Vijay and Dhanush in Russia

Tamil films Vettaiyaadu Vilayadu, Thuppakki, and Aadukalam starring Kamal, Vijay and Dhanush respectively will be screened as part of the centenary fete of Indian cinema in Russia in December. The celebrations will be organised by Indo-Russian Cultural and Friendship Society (IRCFS).

"We are celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema in Russia in collaboration with the Russian government in December. Three Tamil films 'Thuppakki', 'Vettaiyaadu Vilayadu' and 'Aadukalam' will be screened at the event," said P. Thangappan, secretary general, IRCFS.

"These films will be screened along with several other Indian films. We are yet to zero in on the final list of films to be screened at the fest," he added.

All the three films achieved critical and commercial success. Vijay-starrer action-drama 'Thuppakki' is currently being remade in Hindi with Akshay Kumar as 'Holiday'. Kamal Haasan's crime-thriller 'Vettaiyaadu Vilayadu' was one of the best cop stories of Tamil cinema, while Dhanush-starrer 'Aadukalam' won six National Awards.

Asked if the actors of the films will attend the event, Thangappan said, "We haven't personally invited them yet. It's too early to even talk about it because there is still a long way to go".

The Best Debut Director was given to Anand Gandhi for 'Ship of Theseus'.

The Best Screenplay Award was given to Juhi Chaturvedi for 'Vicky Donor'; Best Cinematography to Pankaj Kumar for 'Ship of Thesus'; Best Editing was presented to Mahesh Narayan for 'Vishwaroopam'; Best Background Score was given to Hitesh Sonik for 'Kai Po Che'.

Best Singer (female) was presented to Aditi Singh Sharma for 'Heroine' while the Best Singer (male) was given to Ayushman Khurrana for 'Vicky Donor'. While Pritam got the Best music director award for 'Barfi'.

Eminent personalities including Kamal Hassan, Kangana Ranaut, Tusshar Kapoor, Huma Quershi, Kunal Kappor, Prateik Babbar, Siddharth Malhotra, Nirmat Kaur, Prateik Babbar, Divya Dutta, Manish Paul, Resul Pookutty, Sudhir Mishra, Abhishek Kapoor, Chunkey Pandey, Ravi Kishen, Subhash Kapoor and others were part of the glittering ceremony last evening with Huma Qureshi and Kunal Kapoor welcoming the guests.

The six-day festival kicked off last week at the Fun Republic Cinema in Andheri and commenced with the exhibition of an international cinematic project 'Water' and followed with many other screenings.

Brad Pitt's techies for Kamal Haasan

VFX Supervisor Madhu Sudhanan, who has worked in films like Spiderman 3, The Host, Billa 2, Gulliver’s Travel and many other films has started his work on Vishwaroopam 2. The ace technician is presently in the US, working with the VFX team that worked in the acclaimed Brad Pitt starrer Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It should be noted that Madhu had also led the VFX department of Vishwaroopam I.

Meanwhile, there’s still ten more days of shooting left to wrap up the sequel of Vishwaroopam. Directed by and featuring Kamal Haasan, this film has Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah, Shekar Kapoor, Rahul Bose, Jaideep Ahlawat and many others. It is also said that Waheeda Rahman plays the mother of Kamal Haasan in the sequel. M Ghibran is doing the music for the film and Shamdat Sainudeen is cranking the lens.

Kamal Haasan is thinking of an increase in his films

We all know that Padma Shri Kamal Haasan has acted in over 190 films in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu. In his career that has lasted for over fifty years, the actor has been bestowed with three National Awards, a Kalaimamani Award, a Padma Shri and numerous other awards that he holds up with pride.
The actor has been well received in Hindi too. His debut movie in Hindi was Ek Duuje Ke Liye which was directed by K. Balachander. He also appeared in movies like Chachi 420 and Saagar that were big hits in the box office.
However, Kamal Haasan has not been doing too many Bollywood movies of late although he has been making bilinguals in both Tamil and Hindi such as Hey Ram, Abhay, Mumbai Express and Vishwaroop. The actor was asked the same in a recent interview for which the actor said
“Vishwaroop 2' is a Hindi film as was 'Vishwaroop'. Between last year and now I have completed two films. But now I think I should increase the number of films I do in Hindi.”
It would be interesting to see the type of scripts Kamal Haasan chooses in Hindi.

Kamal Haasan is fascinated with Lucia

Director of Kannada film Lucia has reason to fly higher than he already might be. While the success of the film is one to write home about, the fact that it is a crowd funded movie has caught the attention of Tamil star Kamal Haasan.
While in Bangalore to chalk out the various programmes for the upcoming FICCI media nd entertainment conclave, to be held in Bangalore on October 29 and 30, Kamal Haasan said, "I have not seen this Kannada film called Lucia, and I don't even know the people behind the film, but I am intrigued by how well the director has managed to involve the public in the production of his film. This highlights one of the innumerable number of options or opportunities that filmmakers can depend on for the benefit of good cinema."
The FICCI team have now invited the film's director Pawan Kumar to speak at the conclave later this month. The film is being looked at as a case study on making a movie through crowd funding.

A single-Vaan Engum Nee Minna Minna- from Endrendrum Punnagi scored by Harris Jeyaraj was released this morning and it is being warmly lapped by the audience. Endrendrum Punnagai is directed by Ahmed of Vaamanan fame and stars Jiiva, Trisha, Vinay and Andrea in pivotal roles. It is to be noted that this is the first time Jiiva and Trisha are teaming up and the inclusion of Andrea in the cast list is sure to up the expectation quotient further more.


The audio launch of the film is said to happen on 24th October at Sathyam Cinemas, Chennai at 6 PM. Our reliable sources confirm that Kamal Haasan will release the audio of Endrendrum Punnagai. The 15th edition of the Mumbai Film Festival opened last evening with Lee Daniels’ The Butler, a gripping drama of a White House staffer who saw the roll of history through the eyes of the seven Presidents he served, from Eisenhower to Reagan. Earlier, the Festival was inaugurated by the
Maharashtra Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan, who promised to help the Festival find greater State support in the coming years. He also conferred the Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award on the Tamil superstar, Kamal Hassan, whose movies Chavan said had been illuminating.

Hassan, who flew into Mumbai earlier, said film festivals had been his greatest teachers, apart from directors like K. Balachander (who offered Kamal some of his first roles), Shyam Benegal (President of the Festival) and the cinema legend, Costa Gavras, who was also honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Benegal presented it.

Gavras, who migrated to Paris in 1954, running away from a hostile political climate in his native Greece, averred that cinema helped people to meet one another. It was practically a window to the world. One learnt and experienced so much by watching movies.

Now 80, Gavras is still physically agile and mentally alert, and what is more, he continues making films.

Organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image and chiefly supported by Reliance Entertainment, the Festival, headed by Srinivasan Narayanan, attracted a variety of luminaries on the opening night that included Anil and Tina Ambani, Benegal, Australian auteur Bruce Beresford (President of the International jury) , Iranian director Asghar Farhadi (A Separation and also on the India Gold Jury), India-born Canada-based helmer Deepa Mehta (Water, Midnight’s Children), and actresses Nandita Das as well Sonakshi Sinha among others.

The Festival, which will run till October 24, will screen 200 movies from 65 countries categorised under heads as novel as Kabul Fresh (a string of shorts from the war ravaged region), Celebration Age, New Spanish Cinema, French Rendezvous, Spotlight on Cambodia, International Competition and the cream of Indian cinema.

Kamal Haasan and Peter Jackson are alike


National Award winning VFX Supervisor Madhusudhanan who is working on Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam 2 and has also worked with Hollywood directed Peter Jackson has said that the two legends are very much alike. He says that both Kamal Haasan and Peter Jackson are the toughest masters that he has ever worked with and both are determined what they want to see on the screen.

Peter Jackson, is a New Zealand film director, producer and screenwriter who is best known for his The Lord of the Rings trilogy and its prequel The Hobbit trilogy. The ace visual effects artist has worked in most of Kamal Haasan films including 'Alavandhan' and with Peter Jackson in The Lord of the Rings.

Madhusudhanan has earlier said that Vishwaroopam 2 is going to be a classy film with very high standards of visual effects, thanks to Kamal's vision. Kamal Haasan has written, directed and co-produced the spy thriller which will simultaneously be released in Hindi and Tamil. While most of the cast from the first film have been retained, Waheeda Rahman and Anant Mahadevan are the new faces that will be seen in the sequel.

With Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam becoming a blockbuster hit across the globe, Kamal fans are all enthusiastic about the release of the sequel of the film, Vishwaroopam 2. The movie supposedly has more action sequences compared to its prequel.

The trailer of the movie is ready and is expected to reach the audience shortly. Producer and upcoming actor Udhayanidhi Stalin happened to have seen the trailer and was apparently impressed with the same.

He took to his social media space to express his excitement after viewing the trailer.

Last week there were rumors doing around that Kajal Agarwal has refused an offer to star in Kamalhassan's next film. But now there seems to be a twist in the tale. Kamal who is busy wrapping up Viswaroopam 2 the sequel to the Viswaroopam the blockbuster of 2013, has signed up a film tentatively titled Uthama Villain which is going to be produced on a grand scale by Thirupathi Brothers which has Director Lingusamy as one of its partners. Kannada Star Ramesh Arvind who has acted quite a few films with Ulaganayagan in Tamil as well as Kannada has has acquired the coveted role of directing a Kamalhassan film in Tamil. It is to be noted that the fame of directing him in a Kannada film which was the remake of the Tamil superhit Sathileelavathi.

Crazy Mohan the ace comedy script writer is back in the actors camp to write the screenplay and dialogues for this mega budget venture. Yuvan Shankar Raja will be setting the tunes for this film and this being his first association with the star who has completed more than fifty years in the industry, the fans can be assured of an upcoming chartbuster.

The Makers of the film have now confirmed that Kajal has been finalised as the lead lady of this film. Quizzed on this change of decision, the Thuppaakki girl said. "First they asked for dates in September, which I could not accommodate. Now the start of the shoot has been postponed to November-December so hence I readily accepted the offer".

Kamal Haasan's eagerly awaited Vishwaroopam 2, is one of the most awaited films which is expected to hit the screen before the end of the year. The film is said to be an action packed spy thriller written and directed by Kamal Haasan and the trailer of the film is set to be released soon for the fans.

Madhusudhanan, Senior Visual Effects Supervisor of Vishwaroopam 2, has shared some stunning information about the film and has remarked that they have all bettered their efforts for the second part. He also had high words of praise for the trailer of V2, much like Udhayanidhi Stalin who was also floored by Kamal's effort for the sequel.

"I saw the first cut of vr2 trailer! Very very impressive and interesting! Well you fans have to decide! .. I am adding my blocks into it!"

Revealing the extent of visual effects which were used in the first part, he said

"Now that all of you had seen the film; the entire Afghanistan, stunts and New York in the film are visual effects! have a close look!"

The crew for the second part have far exceeded the effort put in for the first part and he didn't wish to reveal anything more about the sequel.

"Now; if we want to thrill you better than VR; yes, we have done that! ... I am not going to say anything beyond.. enjoy the journey!"

இந்தப் படத்தில் நடித்த வினய் முன்பு ஒருமுறை என்னை சந்தித்த போது தவறுதலாக எனக்கு ஆல் த பெஸ்ட் சொன்னதாகச் சொன்னார். அவர் சரியாத்தான் சொன்னார். எனக்கும் எல்லோருடைய வாழ்த்துகளும் வேணுமே. காரணம் அடுத்து என்னுடைய படம் ரிலீஸாகப் போகிறது அதற்கு உங்களுடைய வாழ்த்துகளும் எனக்கு தேவை.

இது அப்படிப்பட்ட ஒரு பரிமாற்றம்தான். இந்த விழாவுக்கு நான் வந்ததற்கு காரணமே புதிதாக ஒரு கூட்டம் வந்து நல்ல படம் எடுத்து, நன்றாக செயல்படுகிறார்கள். அவர்களை வாழ்த்த வேண்டிய கடமை எனக்கு இருக்கிறது. ஏனென்றால் இந்த வாழ்த்தை நானும் எதிர்பார்க்கிறேன். இங்கே அதற்காகத்தான் வந்திருக்கிறேன்.

'Vishwaroopam 2' trailer on Kamal Haasan's birthday!

Firs trailer of Vishwaroopam 2 is likely to be released on November 7th on the occasion of Kamal Haasan's birthday. Vishwaroopam 2 is sequel to the super hit Vishwaroopam that came early this year amidst controversy.

Last year, Kamal Haasan released Vishwaroopam trailer in Auro 3D on his birthday. So he reportedly has been thinking to do the same for this sequel too.

The sequel stars Kamal Haasan in the lead role and also has Rahul Bose, Pooja Kumar, Shekhar Kapur and Andrea Jeremiah as principle cast.

It has been shot in India and Bangkok. Veteran Bollywood actress Waheeda Rahman plays Kamal's mother in the film.

The déjà vu feeling was there at several places:
When affected people come to complain to don (!)
Niruthanum ellathayum niruthanum and many such dialogues
Inga paar, epdi adichrukaan paar = thottu paar paar by showing his hand
hero kills one of the villain and his widow and child is taken care of later. (the girl doesnt take revenge may be because the hero becomes her adoptive father!)
Nothing to take away from mani sir. He is probably first tamil director who made north Indian cine-goers to tilt towards southern movies. Kadhai kalam similar so the similarities.

Aada Neengea Varea sir, I was talking about Kochadaiiyaaaan. Its disaster from get go, personally I don't have much hopes.

as far VR2 is concerned , VR1 escaped lot of harsh critics partly due to the TN Ban drama. But it was decent movie (with great direction). I hope VR2 is better than Version 1 .

Coming to VR II, I am expecting it to be better than the first part. All said and done, VR I was far from perfect IMHO. The snippets from IIFA were very enticing. So hopefully I am proved right.

You got me wrong. I was saying there would be lot of such scenes in many movies which might look similar or inspired but you can't term it as remake, copy etc unless officially announced. One of the scene sequence from the movie has got more similarities to the commando operation at taj hotel in Mumbai 26/11. Now would we term it as copy...no...I would say it as inspired.

with comparatively low budget (two-thirds of endhiran excluding inflation) kh managed to give one neat universal flick. it should be termed as perfect imho. watching on hindsight, any superb movie can be perfected to some extent which doesnt mean it was not perfect originally. i would place vr among top ten movies of kh.

My take on Inspiration vs. Copy vs. remake - After all actors have the right to be inspired by someone/something so inspiration is just fine. So is remake as long as it doesnt compromise with the actor's originality. Its the scene by scene copy and straight lift that irks me. As far as KH is concerned, he has been inspired and remade movies but I thought his 'own' was very much prevalent and coming through. 'Satya' long ago which was remade from Arjun (hindi) held its own presence and so did kurudhi punal.

VR was pretty much original all the way although a few felt it had some semblance to the storyline of True Lies. Maybe but a far shot inspiration. Lloved VR-1 all the way. I felt its was his best in the last 10 yrs - much better than Dasa.

The Media and Entertainment Business Conclave (MEBC) driven by the Federation of India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), started yesterday, 29th October, 2013, in Bangalore and will wind up today.

Kamal Haasan the chairman of the conclave spoke in a recent interview about the business prospects of Indian Cinema. Kamal Haasan mentioned that our collection process is not transparent. If it was, the Indian collections would be more than Hollywood.

"If ten percent of the total Indian population, which is currently a billion watches a good movie, the theatrical collections could easily touch 1000 crores." He says

Kamal reiterated that this can be achieved only if the collection process becomes more transparent and that the effort should be taken individually.

6 வயதில் களத்தூர் கண்ணம்மா படத்தில் அம்மாவும் நீயே அப்பாவும் நீயே என்று தனது திரைப்பயணத்தை தொடங்கிய கமல், இன்றைக்கு ஐம்பது ஆண்டுகளான பிறகும் அதே மாணவ பருவத்தைப்போன்று பரபரப்பாக இயங்கிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார். குறிப்பாக விஸ்வரூபம் படத்தை ஹாலிவுட்டுக்கு இணையாக இயக்கி நடித்து மாபெரும் பரபரப்பை உண்டு பண்ணினார்.

அப்படம் சில சர்ச்சைகளை சந்தித்தாலும் மிகப்பெரிய அளவில் வெற்றி பெற்றது. அதோடு( 229 cores for 50 days) கோடி ரூபாய் வசூலித்து சாதனை பட்டியலில் இடம்பிடித்தது. அதனால் அப்படத்தின் இரண்டாம் பாகத்தை அதிக எனர்ஜியுடன் இயக்கிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் #கமல், 200 கோடியெல்லாம் ஒரு பெரிய வசூல் இல்லை. அதிகபட்சமாக ஆயிரம் கோடி ரூபாய் வரை நம்மால் வசூலிக்க முடியும் என்கிறார்.

Southern superstar Kamal Haasan who is working hard to release his magnum opus 'Vishwaroopam 2' soon, has revealed that he had started smoking at a young age of 11. But the star actor had quit smoking due to various reasons and one among those that top the list are the lip lock scenes that he had to do in his films.

Recalling the days of his younger age, Kamal Haasan said that he had quit smoking considering the plight of his heroines that he had to kiss in lip lock scenes which were common in his movies. "Imagine the plight of the heroines if I had to kiss them in the evening time of shoot after having all the coffee through the day along with the smoking," he said.

On a funny yet serious note the living legend and superstar also urged youngsters to quit smoking atleast for their girl friends and wifes considering this aspect.

Kamal Haasan has spent 53 years in the film industry and has won three National Awards, a Padma Shri and holds a Guinness World Record for essaying 10 roles in Dasavatharam. As the actor-filmmaker-producer celebrates his 59th birthday today, here’s looking at his best works:
Vishwaroopam
The film was mired in a controversy over depiction of Muslims but it did not stop Vishwaroopam from winning BO success and critical acclaim. Made in three languages, it had some of the best graphics ever seen in Indian cinema.
Dasavatharam
This ambitious project had Haasan essaying 10 different roles, for which he won Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor. The multi-lingual film made in 2008 was a money spinner.
Virumaandi
Haasan acted, directed and wrote Virumaandi – his 2004 film based on the Rashomon effect. The movie won best film award at Puchon Fantastic International Film Festival.
Hey Ram
Also starring Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherji, this bilingual film was based on India’s partition and Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination. The film went on to represent India at the Oscars in 2000.
Indian
This was Haasan’s take on the rampant corruption in India. His double role in the film fetched a National Award, a Filmfare Award and Tamil Nadu State Film Award in Best Actor category.
Pushpak
This 1988 silent black comedy won a lot of accolades. With king-for-a-day story premise, the film was a blockbuster.
Avvai Shanmughi
The multi-faceted actor featured in Avvai Shanmughi as a woman in 1996. Post the success of the Tamil film, it was remade as Chachi 420 in Hindi.
Nayagan

In this 1985 hit, Haasan played a thwarted lover with gusto. He won the Filmfare best actor award for the movie and was also nominated in supporting actor category.
Geraftaar
This 1985 film had three biggest stars in India at that time – Rajnikanth, Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan. A masala potboiler, it earned R32 crore at the box office.
Sadma
A remake of the Tamil film with the same actors in the lead, this 1983 Hindi movie was highly appreciated for Haasan and Sridevi’s nuanced performances.
Moondram Pirai
Haasan went on to win a National Award for this 1982 film where he played a teacher taking care of a girl suffering from amnesia. Sridevi played the girl’s role.
Ek Duuje ke Liye
In 1981, Haasan made his Bollywood debut with this film which was a remake of his Telugu hit Maro Charithra. Story of two star-crossed lovers, it was a blockbuster.
Apoorva Raaganga
Haasan had a meaty role in this 1975 film, which challenged Indian social mores. Interestingly, the film also introduced superstar Rajinikanth.
Kanyakumari
The actor made his Malayalam debut in 1974 with Kanyakumari, story of a man who makes sculptures and falls in love with a girl who sells pearls on the sea shore.
Kalathur Kannamma
Haasan began his career at the age of six in 1960, working with the veteran actor Gemini Ganeshan. He received the President’s Gold Medal for his performance in the movie.

KH and Suha/Mani have fought and patched up multiple times. Latest friendly phase started a few years ago and has been sustained even through KH refused to do Raavan(an). Mani was seen publicly attending KH's B'day bash last year and subsequently Suha/Charu attended VR premier show. This was preceded by Kamal's kavithai where he was wishing for Kadal's success. So, like many families they have gone through many internal bickerings, including property disputes.

Film festivals are temples of learning: Kamal Haasan
Describing himself as an “extramural student of cinema,” actor Kamal Haasan said here on Sunday that film festivals were “temples of learning” where he went to learn.

“I never went to an institute. My earliest memories are of cinema. I came to act when I was three-and-a-half. All my learning has been through studios, film festivals and films, especially film festivals,” he told journalists at an interactive session at the Netaji Research Centre in the city.

Mr. Haasan, who was in the city to attend the inauguration of 19 Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) later in the day, said Kolkata held a “special position” as far as cinema was concerned. Kolkata was a city from where “pioneers” in Indian cinema had emerged. “What is close to my heart is the fact that film societies were born here, and now the film festival… I think it will be an apex film festival.”

“This is a versatile modern art,” Mr. Haasan said when he was asked about an article in Frontline that said two of his real life heroes — Mahatma Gandhi and Periyar — hated cinema. “There is no use disrespecting it.”

Responding to a question whether his decision to attend the film festival was because the State government did not ban the screening of his film Vishwaroopam, Mr. Hasan said “it is not a matter of give and take.”

“Because… I might be wrong the next time. Then they [the State government] are not going to support me. They felt the voice was right… they supported me. I am not a political animal at all,” he said.

Mr. Haasan said it was not the first time he got Kolkata’s support. It happened on an earlier occasion when certain people opposed the screening of his film Hey Ram.

‘Every Indian’s dilemma’

Earlier in the day, after visiting the house of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Mr. Haasan said the dilemma before every Indian was: which is the right path… the martial path of Bose or ‘Ahimsa’ of Mahatma Gandhi. “It is a very difficult question to answer even in today’s world. Even America is trying to answer the question…. Some of the most educated and affluent societies in Europe are unable to give an answer…..which is the right way to approach differences?”

“To practical men, both have their limitations… Ours is a young world, a merely 10,000-year-old civilisation… and it is very wrong to judge what is right or what is wrong,” Mr. Haasan said.

On the difference between the two leaders, he said, “their routes were different, but they were heading towards the same destination,” though people claim they were opposed to each other.

People in Bengal know that it was Bose who gave Mahatma Gandhi the title ‘Father of the Nation.’ But people in other parts of the country, particularly the south, were not aware of it, he said.

Kamal Haasan 'surprised' by 'sister' Mamata Banerjee
Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan, enthused by the start of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), on Sunday likened West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to a "sister" and said he was "surprised" by her dynamism.

"This is my first encounter with the honorable chief minister... I was looking forward to a chief minister, but I found a sister (in her)... I know why you call her that now," said Haasan, during the inaugural event of the 19th edition of KIFF.

Banerjee is addressed by her supporters as didi or elder sister in Bengali. She was seen dashing about the dais to ensure the proceedings went smoothly.

Cinema greats Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Mithun Chakraborty and Haasan dazzled audiences at the Netaji Indoor stadium here as they came together during the opening.

"I found a head of a family (Banerjee) busy inviting everyone, a dynamo of energy, and very surprisingly, not interested in sitting in the chair for too long. I was quite surprised... I am not used to it," Haasan said.

Kamal Haasan on 7th November turned 59 and as usual he was busy with his routine charity works that he does on his birthdays. Later, he hosted a private party for his industry friends, we hear. Actor Vijay, Madhavan, Andrea, Priyadharshan, Santhana Bharathy, Crazy Mohan, the Vishwaroopam 2 team and other close friends of Kamal joined the party and wished the legend.

It is also said that a bunch of talented kids gave a special musical performance for Kamal at the party and the actor also joined them in singing a few of his favourite numbers. The actor also gave a small performance with his Mridhangam (a percussion instrument).

Krrish 3 had foreign technicians in hand but VR had Madhu sir and some work done by Red Chillies (SRK's vfx company.) I heard ppl who did Benjamin Button are working with Madhu for Part 2. Very confident that VR2 will surpass the level of technical brilliance of Part 1.

Krrish 3 lacked any sense of storytelling (making 200C+ as we speak.) Proof that Naarth pasanga are dumbfounded in their choice of storytelling/entertainment (see Sennai Express.) Guess that's why Prabhu Deva's school of masala-vadai direction is accepted there while suttifying namma kathai from South.

7-11-2013 அன்று கமல்ஹாஸனுக்குப் பிறந்தநாள். அவர் புதியதாகக் கிழக்குக் கடற்கரைச்சாலையில் குடியேறியிருக்கும் இல்லத்தில் சிறப்பு அழைப்பாளர்களான நண்பர்களுக்காக ஒரு சந்திப்பு நிகழ்ந்தது.நான் சென்னையில் இருந்தேன் என்றாலும் ஒரு தயக்கம். எனக்கு பார்ட்டிகளில் ஈடுபாடில்லை. முக்கியமான காரணம் அவற்றில் எப்படி நடந்துகொள்வது என்று நாட்டுப்புறத்தானாகிய நான் இன்னமும் கற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை என்பதுதான். ஆனால் நண்பர் தனா என்னுடன் அவரும் வருவதாகச் சொல்லி உற்சாகமாகக் கிளம்பியதனால் செல்லலாமென முடிவெடுத்தேன்.

மெட்ராஸ் டாக்கீஸ் அலுவலகக் காரில் இரவு ஒன்பது மணிக்கு கமல் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றேன். வாசலில் அவரே நின்று அனைவரையும் வரவேற்றுக்கொண்டிருந்தார். கட்டித்தழுவி வரவேற்றார். நான் நினைத்த அளவுக்குப் பெரிய கூட்டம் இல்லை என்றாலும் எங்குபார்த்தாலும் பிரபலங்கள் என்பது ஒரு திகைப்பை உருவாக்கியது.

தமிழ்த்திரையுலகில் எனக்கு முதலில் அறிமுகமான நண்பர் கமல்.2000 வாக்கில் விஷ்ணுபுரம் வாசித்துவிட்டு ஒருநாள் என்னைத் தொலைபேசியில் அழைத்து ‘நான் கமலஹாசன் பேசறேன்’ என்று அறிமுகம்செய்துகொண்டார் ‘உங்க தீவிர வாசகன்…’
எனக்கு அப்போது யாரோ மிமிக்ரிசெய்கிறார்கள் என்ற எண்ணம்தான் இருந்தது. என்ன பேசுவதென்றும் தெரியவில்லை. அவரே அந்நாவலில் வாசித்த பல நுட்பமான இடங்களை விவரித்துப்பேசினார்.

அதன்பின் இத்தனை நாட்களில் என்னுடைய அத்தனை படைப்புகளுக்கும் உடனடி வாசகராக அவரே இருந்திருக்கிறார். கொற்றவை அவரை பெரிதும் கவர்ந்தது. தொடர்ச்சியாகப் பலமுறை கூப்பிட்டு அதைப்பற்றி பேசினார். அதன்பின் இன்றையகாந்தி. கடைசியாக அறம். அவரைக் கவராத படைப்பைப்பற்றி அவர் பெரும்பாலும் வாயைத்திறப்பதில்லை.

அவர் நட்சத்திரம் என்பதனாலேயே நான் அவரைப்பற்றி இன்றுவரை ஒரு வரிகூட எழுதியதில்லை. அவரை நேரில் சந்திப்பதையே கூடுமானவரை தள்ளிப்போட்டு வந்தேன். நேரில் சந்தித்த தருணங்கள் எல்லாமே உற்சாகமானவை. அவர் பேச்சினூடாகவே எனக்குப் பல எழுத்தாளர் பெயர்கள் – உதாரணமாக கர்ட் வேன்கட் -அறிமுகமாயின என்று சொன்னால் அவரைத்தெரிந்தவர்கள் ஆச்சரியப்பட மாட்டார்கள்.

விருந்தில் மதனைப் பார்த்தேன். சற்று உடல்நலம் குன்றியிருந்தவர் சிகிழ்ச்சைக்குப்பின் தேறி நன்றாகவே இருந்தார். செய்தியறிக்கைகள் காலப்போக்கில் இலக்கியமதிப்பு பெறுவதைப்பற்றி உற்சாகமாகப்பேசினார்.

எங்கும் தெரிந்த முகங்கள். ஹிந்து என்.ராம் முதலிய பல செய்தி ஊடக நட்சத்திரங்கள். பிரியதர்சன் முதலிய இயக்குநர்கள். விஜய் முதலிய நடிகர்கள். ஆண்ட்ரியா போன்ற நடிகைகள். அனைவரும் ஏதோ ஒருவகையில் கமலின் நெருக்கமான உள்வட்டத்தினர் என்று தெரிந்தது.

என்னை அறிந்தவர்களிடம் மட்டும் பேசியபடி சுற்றிவந்தேன். கிரேஸி மோகனைச் சந்தித்தேன். ஏற்கனவே இன்றைய காந்தி வாசித்துவிட்டு என்னிடம் தொலைபேசியில் பேசியிருக்கிறார். கு.ஞானசம்பந்தத்தைச் சந்தித்தேன். அப்பால் முக்கியஸ்தர்கள் நடுவே உற்சாகத்தழுவல்கள், அன்புக்கூச்சல்கள், புகைப்பட மின்னல்கள்….

கமல் நடுவே என்னிடம் வந்து நின்று தீவிரமாக உரையாட ஆரம்பித்தார். ஏற்கனவே பேசி நிறுத்திய புள்ளியில் இருந்து பேச ஆரம்பிப்பது அவரது வழக்கம். இலக்கியமும் வரலாறும் சந்திக்கும் இடங்கள் அவருக்கு பிடித்தமானவை. இலக்கியத்திற்கு ஒரு வரலாற்றுக்காரணத்தைச் சொல்வதில் எப்போதுமெ ஒரு நுட்பமான பார்வை அவருக்குண்டு.

வெள்ளையானை கிடைத்தது என்றார். நான் கொண்டு வர மறந்து விட்டிருந்தேன். ‘அதெல்லாம் மை காயறதுக்குள்ள இங்க வந்திரும்’ என்றார். ஐஸ்ஹவுஸின் போராட்டம் பற்றி ஏற்கனவே அவர் வாசித்து அறிந்தவற்றைச் சொல்ல ஆரம்பித்தார். ‘எங்க ஏரியால்ல?’

நெடுநேரம் என்னிடம் மட்டுமே பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார் என்று தோன்றியது. அதிமுக்கியமனிதர்கள் பின்பக்கம் அவருக்காகக் காத்திருந்தனர். அவரது உற்சாகத்தில் விரிசலை உண்டுபண்ணவும் முடியவில்லை. ஒரு தம்பதிகளைச் சந்திக்க அவர் திரும்பியபோது நான் மெல்ல நகர்ந்துவிட்டேன்.

இரா.முருகன் வந்தார். ‘எழுத்துருச் சண்டை போடுங்க போங்க’ என்று கமல் தன்னை அனுப்பியதாகச் சொன்னார். அவரது நாடக அரங்கேற்றம் பற்றியும் அரசூர் நாவல் வரிசையில் மூன்றாவது நாவல் வரப்போவது பற்றியும் பேசிக்கொண்டோம்.

சாப்பாட்டில் என்னென்னவோ இருந்தது. நான் காய்கறிகள், பழங்கள் மட்டுமே சாப்பிடக்கூடியவன். சூப்பில் போடவேண்டிய பச்சைக்காய்கறித்துருவல்கள் மட்டுமே இருந்தன. அவற்றை எடுத்துக்கொண்டேன். சாப்ப்பிட்டபின் உள்ளே சென்று வந்திருந்தவர்களின் குடும்பத்துக் குழந்தைகளுடன் கமல் பாடி ஆடி குதூகலித்ததைப் பார்த்தேன். பன்னிரண்டு மணிக்குக் கிளம்பிவிட்டேன்.

அத்தனை வெளிச்சத்திற்குள்ளூம் அவர் வாசிப்பதற்கும் விவாதிப்பதற்கும் இடத்தைக் கண்டுகொள்வது ஆச்சரியம்தான். சென்னையின் உச்சநிலைமனிதர்கள் சூழ்ந்த அந்த இடத்தில் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது ஒரு சக எழுத்தாளரிடம் தெருமுனை டீக்கடையில் நின்று பேசிக்கொள்ளும் உணர்வே இருந்தது.

Proof that Naarth pasanga are dumbfounded in their choice of storytelling/entertainment (see Sennai Express.) : both the movies are kiddish. but nick, leave this north-south kaazhpunarchi! out of 100 tamil movies in a year, how many are 'really' good movies..1%? 10%? Further, our 'south pasanga' also contributed a lot in making both the movies huge success in South BO. mind it!

Vishwaroop2 (Vishwaroopam2) Is Bigger Than Vishwaroop (Vishwaroopam) & Dashavatar: #KamalHaasan

He walked to the poolside of Taj Bengal around 11.30am on Monday, greeting everyone with a smile. Introductions, handshakes and namaskars followed as the man of the hour, Kamal Haasan, mingled with a select set of Calcuttans at an informal meet-and-greet at Taj Bengal hosted by Sundeep Bhutoria.

“They would like you to say a couple of words. They are dying to hear your lovely voice,” said Usha Uthup. Taking the mic from Usha, Kamal said, “I don’t know about the lovely part, it’s a voice… I have been a film buff… all my learning has been in cinema, through cinema, so you cannot miss out Cal that way. Many of my heroes have been from Cal, and heroines too (grins)…. Very rarely have I been to such a warm meeting. I really enjoyed this, and it has never happened to me before. I like the informality and the warmth in the faces I see. Thank you very much for doing this.”

The superstar made time for a chat with t2.

You were talking about Bengali and Tamil co-productions...

It’s just an idea…if it happens, then it is great. I am talking about double versions. You add numbers by virtue of audience. When we make Tamil and Bengali films we are talking about 16 crore people who are your target. I’m talking like this to every state. I am talking to Karnataka. We might be doing a double version soon to prove the point. We are not just giving lip service.

Would you like to act in a Bengali film?

That’s what…by virtue of making a double version I’ll be bringing in business to both the states.

Coming to Calcutta, does it bring back a lot of memories?

Oh yes. For me, more than Bombay, Calcutta was the capital of cinema. I come from another capital called Chennai. Chennai is truly a national filmmaking centre. The rest of the industries may not lay claim to that, probably Bengal to some extent. Because, if you look at it, all Tamil producers have produced various language films, including Hindi. Sivaji Productions have produced Hindi, Tamil and Telugu films. I have produced Malayalam films, Telugu, Kannada, and I am yet to produce a Bengali film. So we are truly national filmmakers. So I want that kind of a label for every regional cinema, they should think of going national.

You had acted in Kobita...

Do you know Kobita was a Tamil film? It got remade in Bengali. Kobita was a Tamil film inspired by Meghe Dhaka Tara.

Do you remember anything about the shoot?

Oh yes. I quietly stood and watched Ritwik Ghatak saab shoot from a distance. For me, it was all unreal.

What does Calcutta mean to you?

I keep visiting Cal whenever I have a project close to my heart, like Hey Ram or Mahanadi… I am fascinated by Calcutta, though I am closer to Kerala than Calcutta. I find similarities politically, sports and music taste-wise, culturally we have the same bent, including the number of coconut trees (laughs).

Do you like any particular Bengali cuisine?

I’ll never forget my experience when I came to location hunt for my film Mahanadi at Sonagachhi. We went there around 12 ’clock since it’s not business time. When we went there I smelt hilsa. And I said, “That smells like fish?” And she said, “Yes. Aap hamare ghar mein khayenge?” I said, “Why not? If you have anything leftover for me.” And they served. Suddenly, after I ate, they did something. “They touched my feet and put kumkum on my forehead. I said, “Why are you doing this? What can we expect from Vishwaroop 2?

The unexpected (laughs)! It's a step up from Vishwaroop. I feel that we have done even better than the first one. It’s going to be again in Auro 3D sound, and this one is a Hindi film. It is very daring in underwater photography and aerial photography. It’s challenging and satisfying.

Is the film set in India?

Yes, most of the story is set in India, and also Afghanistan and a bit of America.

Is it coming out next year?

It should have come out this year, but got delayed because of post production. We have to finish two-and-a-half months of post-production.

Is it one of your most ambitious films?

It is. It is bigger than Dashavtar and Vishwaroop. It demanded it. The content is international, it’s espionage, it’s about war in Afghanistan…

Talking of espionage did spy stories fascinate you as a child?

I had family members who were part of the Research and Analysis Wing, so when I was a boy we would hear stories. My uncle was in the Central Intelligence Bureau, and it was probably the early part of the founding of the Research and Analysis Wing. So whenever we had James Bond questions I would ask my uncle and he would ridicule the idea of what we think is espionage. He gave me inputs and a realistic terra firma walk through the domain.

After being in cinema for more than 50 years, what sort of challenges lie ahead?

So many. Because of commercial constraints, we could realise only some of our dreams. Many dreams are yet to be realised.

I’ll never forget my experience when I came to location hunt for my film Mahanadi at Sonagachhi. We went there around 12 ’clock since it’s not business time. When we went there I smelt hilsa. And I said, “That smells like fish?” And she said, “Yes. Aap hamare ghar mein khayenge?” I said, “Why not? If you have anything leftover for me.” And they served. Suddenly, after I ate, they did something. “They touched my feet and put kumkum on my forehead. I said, “Why are you doing this? Mahanadhi - Undoubtedly one of Kamal's best! Nobody can even dare give a movie like that. I've seen Mohanlal's malayalam movies that can come close. He's another great star. But reg. Mahanadhi - What a movie it was ... Shakes your basic foundation and belief of what the society is/can be made of. And the best part is that it cannot be dismissed as mere fiction. Those characters could be lurking in the society .. His movie lets you know that truth can be a lot stranger than fiction. A lot of my friends are like oh mahanadhi - I'm not watching that movie a second time, no way! Basically he brings it on in such a way that you flinch and just dont want to believe things can go very wrong in a normal man's life.

In the making for a good lot of demanding months, the magnum opus of Kollywood are pushed sadly to next year, making us wait some more time. But not for too long though, as Superstar's 'Kochadaiyaan' and Ulaga Nayagan's 'Vishwaroopam 2' are to hit the screens in early 2014, as early as Pongal! So are they locking horns with release clash of the younger heroes - Ajith's 'Veeram' and Vijay's 'Jilla'? We don't know yet, but may be even not.

Though the big budgets are looking forward to encash on the festive season, they may as well give the other releases a breather, to lock horns on Republic Day. While 'Kochadaiyaan' may in fact hit the screens for Pongal, 'Vishwaroopam 2' is most likely to utilize January 26th for a worldwide release. Sounds familiar? Well, that is when the first part was released, exactly a year earlier. All said and done, there is a lot to look out for in January 2014, giving the year a jump start.

In 1997, as a part-time journalist, I had published an investigative report on "AIDS awareness amongst medical practitioners" in Indian Express, based on which I was invited to a conference on Sexual health and STDs in Calcutta.

As part of that conference, two NGOs working for the betterment of commercial sex workers health, had arranged for a field trip to Sonaa gaachi - most stayed away, but I chose to go.

I spent an entire day and the better part of a night in Sonagachi - what is shown in Mahanadhi is not just only true, the reality there in Sonagachi is ten times more depressing.

I was disturbed for a long period of time, and since then my perspective of life took a serious turn - thats when I began to turn seriously agnostic - realized that the Indian middle-class blissfully lives in euphoria - turning a blind eye to the horrors inherent in it, while all the time indulges itself in superstition, blind belief in the supernatural, astrology, outdated traditions etc.

my perspective of Kamal the creator also changed bigtime since then.

எழுபதுகளில் காதல் இளவரசன் என்று பெயர் பெற்ற கமல் ஹாஸன் அன்றைய இளைஞர்களிடையே புகழ் பெற்றிருந்ததில் வியப்பில்லை. ஆனால் எத்தனையோ இளம் நாயகர்கள் வெற்றிகரமாக நடித்துவரும் இன்றைய காலகட்டத்திலும் கமலுக்கு இளம் ரசிகர்கள் அதிகம் என்பது ஆச்சரியமாக இருக்கலாம். சற்று ஆழமாக யோசித்துப் பார்த்தால் இளைஞர்களை வசீகரிக்கும் திறமைகளும் குணங்களும் கமலிடம் இருப்பதால் இதில் ஆச்சரியப்பட ஒன்றுமில்லை என்பது தெரியும்.

இளம் தலைமுறையினர் திறமையை ஆராதிப்பவர்கள். புதிய தேடல்களையும் பரிசோதனையையும் அவற்றின் வெற்றி, தோல்வி பற்றிக் கவலைப்படாமல் விரும்புபவர்கள். எதிலும் இன்றைய போக்கைப் பிரதிபலிக்க வேண்டும் என்று நினைப்பவர்கள். கமல் ஹாசன் பல கலைகளில் வித்தகர். தொடர்ந்து தன் திறமைகளைப் புதுப்பித்துக்கொண்டிருப்பவர். தமிழ் சினிமாவில் பல புதிய அம்சங்களை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியவர். காதல் காட்சிகள், சண்டைக் காட்சிகள், நகைச்சுவைக் காட்சிகள் ஆகியவற்றின் வரையறைகளை மாற்றி எழுதியவர்.

காதல் காட்சிகளில் கமல் அச்சு அசலாக ஒரு காதலனின் உணர்வுகளைப் பிரதிபலிப்பதைக் காதலில் ஒரு முறையேனும் தன்னை இழந்தவர்களால் உணர முடியும். கமல் ஆக்*ஷன் ஹீரோ என்று சொல்லப்படும் நாயக பிம்பத்துக்குப் பொருந்திவர மாட்டார். ஆனால் குரு முதல் விஸ்வரூபம்வரை அவரது சண்டைக் காட்சிகள் எந்த ஆக்*ஷன் ஹீரோவுக்கும் சவால் விடுபவை. சண்டைக் காட்சிகளில் நம்பகத்தன்மையையும் புதுப் புது உத்திகளையும் புகுத்துவதில் அவருக்கு நிகராக இன்னொரு நாயக நடிகரைச் சொல்ல முடியவில்லை. நாயகர்கள் ஏற்கும் நகைச்சுவைப் பாத்திரங்களுக்குத் தமிழில் வளமான மரபு இருக்கிறது. இன்றுவரை தொடரும் மரபு அது. அந்த மரபில் கமலின் இடம் தனித்து நிற்பதை அவரது நகைச்சுவைப் படங்கள் பளிச்சென்று காட்டிவிடும். நகைச்சுவை நடிகனாக மட்டுமே கமலால் திரைத்துறையில் கோலோச்ச முடியும் என்னும் அளவுக்கு அவரது நகைச்சுவை நடிப்பு நுட்பமான இழைகளும் கூர்மையும் கொண்டது.

திரைப்படம் எடுக்கப்படும் விதத்தை மாற்றியமைத்து அதன் வீச்சை அதிகரிக்கச் செய்வதிலும் கமலின் பங்கு அதிகம். படத்தைச் சந்தைப்படுத்துவதில் புதிய வழிமுறைகள், மேக்கப், எடிட்டிங் ஆகியவற்றில் அதி நவீன உத்திகள் ஆகியவற்றை நடைமுறைப்படுத்தியவர். தொலைக்காட்சியையும் வீடியோ தொழில்நுட்பத்தையும் இணையத்தையும் கண்டு சினிமா உலகில் பலரும் அஞ்சியபோது அவை காலத்தின் கட்டாயம் என்று சொல்லி வரவேற்றவர் கமல். கதைக் களங்களிலும் நடிப்பின் நுட்பங்களிலும் புதிய பரிசோதனைகள் செய்துவருபவர் கமல். இத்தகைய குணங்கள் இளைஞர்களைக் கவர்வதில் ஆச்சரியம் இல்லை. கமலை இளைஞர்கள் ஏன் விரும்புகிறார்கள் என்பதை அவர்கள் வார்த்தைகளிலேயே அறிந்துகொள்ளும் முயற்சியே இந்தத் தொகுப்பு.

அபூர்வ சகோதரர்கள் படம் 1989லேயே வெளிவந்துவிட்டது. ஆனால், அதை நான் 4ஆம் வகுப்பு படிக்கும்போதுதான் பார்த்தேன். குள்ள கமலின் சேட்டைகளை எந்தளவுக்கு ரசித்தேனோ, அதே அளவுக்குக் கடைசியில் அவர் அழும் காட்சியில் நானும் அழுதேன். தன் ரசிகர் மன்றங்களை எல்லாம் நற்பணி மன்றங்களாக மாற்றிய முதல் நடிகர், தமிழ் சினிமாவை உலகத் தரத்திற்குக் கொண்டு சென்றவர் என்று நான் வளர வளர அவரைப் பற்றிய வியப்பான செய்திகள் எல்லாம் வந்துகொண்டே இருந்தன. சினிமாவை வைத்து வாழாமல், சினிமாவுக்காகவே வாழ்கிற அபூர்வ கலைஞர் எங்கள் கமல்.

தமிழ் சினிமாவில் புதுமையைப் புகுத்துவதற்குப் படாத பாடுபடுகிறார். சோதனை முயற்சிகளை அவர் செய்துவரவில்லை என்றால் தமிழ் சினிமா தொழில்நுட்பத்தில் இந்த அளவு வந்திருக்குமா என்பது சந்தேகமே.

களத்தூர் கண்ணம்மாவில் தொடங்கிய வேகம் இப்போதும் ஜெட் வேகத்தில் எகிறிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. இளமை எப்போதும் அவர் முகத்தில் நிழலாடும். மேடைகளில் ஆங்கிலக் கலப்பு இல்லாமல் தூய தமிழில் பேசும் பண்பு, நகைச்சுவை நாயகனாக, ஆக்ன்*ஷ ஹீரோவாக என எந்த ரோல் செய்தாலும் அதில் ரசிக்க வைப்பவர் கமல்தான். பார்வையாளர்களின் ரசனைக்கு ஏற்பத் தன் உருவத்தை மாற்றி விஸ்வரூபம் எடுக்கும் விதத்தில் கமல் என் கவனத்தை ஈர்க்கிறார்.

இந்திய சினிமாவில் நடிப்பிற்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டாகப் பலதுறை வல்லவன் கமல் ஹாசன் அவர்களைத்தான் கூறுவேன். நடிப்பு, நடனம், எழுத்து, பாடல், இயக்கம், தயாரிப்பு ஆகிய எல்லாத் துறைகளையும் அவரால் சிறப்பாகக் கையாள முடிந்திருக்கிறது. நான் திரையரங்கில் பார்த்த முதல் படம் தேவர் மகன். அது தந்த பிரமிப்பில், அவரது படங்களைத் தேடித் தேடிப் பார்த்துப் பரவசத்தில் ஆழ்ந்து கிடக்கிறேன். ஒரு பெண் ரசிகையாக அவர் காதல் இளவரசனாக ஜொலித்த தொடக்கக் கால ரொமண்டி படங்களைப் பார்த்து ரசிக்கும் அனுபவமோ அதற்குரிய வயதோ இல்லாமல் போனது. அதன் காரணமாகவே அவரது முதிர்ச்சியான, சோதனை முயற்சிகள் நிறைந்த உலகத் தரமான நடிப்பு வெளிப்பட்ட பிந்தைய படங்கள் பார்க்கும் வாய்ப்பும் சினிமா ரசனையை மேம்படுத்திக்கொள்ளும் வாய்ப்பும் எனக்குக் கிடைத்தன. கலையின் மீதான அக்கறையும், வெறித்தனமான நேசிப்பும் கொண்ட இக்கலைஞனிடம் இருந்து மேலும் தரமான படங்களை எதிர்பார்க்கிறேன்.

I spent an entire day and the better part of a night in Sonagachi - what is shown in Mahanadhi is not just only true, the reality there in Sonagachi is ten times more depressing.

I was disturbed for a long period of time, and since then my perspective of life took a serious turn - thats when I began to turn seriously agnostic - realized that the Indian middle-class blissfully lives in euphoria - turning a blind eye to the horrors inherent in it, while all the time indulges itself in superstition, blind belief in the supernatural, astrology, outdated traditions etc.

Mahanadhi - bravo Kamal indeed

Sonagachi - certainly not for the weak hearted. The scene of workers there pooling in their saved up money to let them escape was simply heart wrenching. A sense of realism pervaded the movie making you ponder well after it was over.
