புரட்சித் தலைவர் ஐயாவின் செய்த உதவிகளை என்னால் ஒரு நாளும் மறக்க முடியாதவை ... அண்மையில் 1981ஆம் ஆண்டில் நடந்த சுவையான சம்பவம் இது ..
அப்போது நான் எட்டாம் வகுப்பில் படித்திருந்த பொது நடந்த சம்பவம் இது ...... மறக்க முடியுமா இதை ... அப்போது எங்களுக்கு மகளிர் பேருந்து ஏற்பாடு செய்தவரே புரட்சித் தலைவர் ஐயா அவர்கள்
தமிழக முதல் அமைச்சர் ராக இருந்த பொது நானும் எனது பள்ளிகூட தோழிகளும் ஒன்று சேர்ந்து தமிழக முதல்வர் டாக்டர் புரட்சித் தலைவர் ஐயாவுக்கு ஒரு கடிதம் எழுதினோம் ..
அப்போது நான் s.i.e.t. matriculation பள்ளிகூடத்தில் படித்த கொண்டிரந்த நேரம் இது ..... என்ன கடிதம் எழுதினோம் என்றால் எங்களுக்கு மகளிர் பேருந்து காலை எட்டு மணியில் இரவு எட்டு மணி வரை
மகளிர் பேருந்து அமைத்து கொடுத்தால் மிகவும் நன்மையாக இருக்கும் என்று கடிதம் எழுதினோம் .... கோட்டையின் விலாசத்தை கண்டு அறிந்து நாங்கள் கடிதம் எழுதினோம் ...
அந்த கடிதத்தில் எங்களுடைய வீடு விலாசமும் எங்களுடைய வீடு தொலை பேசி எண்ணும் எழுதி போடிருந்தோம் ... இரண்டு மாதம் கழித்து என் வீட்டுக்கு கொட்டையிலேருந்து போன் வந்தது ..
அப்பா தான் எடுத்தார் .. யாருடைய குரலோ தெரியவில்லை விடியட் காலை ஆறு மணி போன் கால் வந்தது அப்பா எடுத்தவுடன் ஒரு அதிசய குரலை கண்டார் ... என்ன பேசினார் தெரியும் உங்கள் வீட்டில் லதாங்கி என்ற ஒரு பெண் குழந்தை இருகிறார்களா என்று பதில் அப்பாவுக்கு வந்தது. அப்பா ஆமாம் அவள் என் மகள் தான் என்று அப்பா சொன்னார் .....இந்த ஆச்சரியத்தை கண்டு என்னால் சந்தோசம் தாங்க முடியவில்லை ...தொடரும்

உடனே ராமாவரதிலேருந்து எனக்கு போன் வந்தது என்று நான் ஆச்சரியப்பட்டேன் ... அப்பா என்னிடம் தொலை பேசி கொடுக்க ... அழகான மென்மையான குரல் ஒன்று கேட்டு ரசித்தேன் ....... நீ லதாங்கி யா என்று கேட்டார் டாக்டர் புரட்சித் தலைவர் ஐயா ... நான் ஆமாம் நீ மகளிர் பேருந்து வேண்டும் என்று எனக்கு கடிதம் எழுதினாய என்று கேட்டார் .
அதற்கும் ஆமாம் என்று சொன்னேன் என் கை படபடத்தது ... அம்மாவும் அப்பாவும் எனது அருகில் நின்று கொண்டிரந்த சமயத்தில் சரி உன் அப்பாவிடம் போனை கொடு என்று சொன்னார் ..
உடனே அப்பா விடம் எல்லாம் விஷயத்தை கேட்டு அறிந்து .. கவலை படாதீர்கள் வேணு ( என் தந்தையரின் பெயர் ) உங்கள் மகள் சொன்ன படியே நாங்கள் மகளிர் பேருந்து ஏற்பாடு செய்வோம் என்று
சொன்னார் தமிழக முதல்வர் ... அப்பா போனை வைத்து ததும் என்னை கன்னத்தில் முத்தமிட்டு ... எனக்கு தெரியாமலே நீ தமிழ க முதல்வருக்கு கடிதம் எழுதினாய . லேடீஸ் ஸ்பெஷல் பஸ் வேண்டும் என்று கேட்டார் அப்பா ... எனக்கு பெருமிதமாக இருந்தது .... இரண்டு வாரத்துக்குள் லேடீஸ் ஸ்பெஷல் பஸ் ரெடி ...... இவரை போல் இனி வரமுடியுமா சகோதரர்களே ... வரவே முடியாது .....அவருக்கு நிகர் அவரே தான் சகோதரரே ....

1980 ஆம் ஆண்டில் ஆறாவது வகுப்பு என்று நினைக்கிறன் .. சரியாக ஞாபகம் இல்லை இதே S.I.E.T MATRICULATION பள்ளிகூடத்தில் நான் படித்து கொண்டிருந்த சமயம் இன்னொரு சம்பவம் நடந்தது ..
அந்த வகுப்பில் எல்லோரும் புதிய மாணவிகளாக சேர்ந்திருந்த நேரம் அந்த நேரம் .... அப்போது ஒரு சுவையான நிகழ்ச்சி ஒன்று நடந்தது ... யாரும் தெரியாதவர்களே கிடையாது ..
ஒரு முக்கியமான மனிதர் டாக்டர் புரட்சித் தலைவர் ஐயாவின் நெருங்கிய நண்பர் ராமசாமி உடையார் ஐயா அவர்களின் மகள் ராதா வும் நானும் இதே ஆறாம் வகுப்பில் புதிதாக சேர்ந்திருந்த மாணவிகள் .... அப்போது ராதா வும் நானும் நெருங்கிய தோழிகளாக இருந்து வந்தோம் படித்த காலத்தில் .... ராதா அருமையான தோழி ... அவளுடைய தந்தையார் தான் ராமசாமி உடையார் ..
தற்போது போரூர் ராமச்சந்திர மெடிக்கல் காலேஜ் என்று நடத்தி வரும் உடையார் ராமசாமி யின் மகன் தான் வெங்கடாசலம் அண்ணா என் தோழியின் அண்ணன் தான் ராதா ..
உடையார் ஐயா வீட்டில் நான் கண்டது ஒரு அதிசயத்தை கண்டேன் ... புரட்சித் தலைவர் ஐயாவும் உடையார் ஐயாவும் சேர்ந்து எடுத்த போட்டோவை பார்த்தேன் ... பார்த்து அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்தேன் ..

ஜூன் 26 ஆறாம் தேதி எனக்கு பிறந்த தினம் ... அப்போது ராதா என்னை அவள் வீட்டுக்கு அழைத்து சென்றால் ... அப்போது தான் உடையார் மாமாவை என்னை அறிமுகப் படுதிவைதால் ராதா ..
அப்போது உடையார் மாமா என்னிடம் கேட்டார் ஒரு கேள்வி .. லதாங்கி இன்றைக்கு உனது பிறந்த நாள் உனக்கு என்னவேண்டும் வேணும் நாளும் கேள் நான் உனக்கு வங்கி தருகிறேன் என்று சொன்னார் ... ஆனால் என் மனது அந்த சிறு குழந்தையின் வேதனையை நினைத்து என்னால் ஒருநாள் கூட நிம்மதியாக தூங்கமுடியவில்லை .... எனக்கு சட்டென்று ஒரு யோசனை தோன்றியது ..
நாம் இவரிடம் தமிழக முதல்வரிடம் மூலமாக எதாவது உதவி செய்ய முடியுமா என்று கேட்டால் என்ன என்று எனக்கு ஒரு யோசனை தோன்றியது .... நான் ராதாவிடம் கூறினேன் .

ரிக்.ஷாக்காரன் கதாநாயகி மஞ்சுளா அவர்கள் அமெரிக்காவில் இருந்தார். மக்கள் திலகம் மிகவும் மோசமான அளவுக்கு உடல்நலம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு சுயநினைவற்ற நிலையில் அமெரிக்காவில் உள்ள புரூக்ளின் மருத்துவமனைக்குக் கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்டார். மக்கள் திலகம் அமெரிக்கா கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட செய்தி அறிந்து அவரைப்பார்க்க விரைந்து வந்தார் மஞ்சுளா. மருத்துவமனையில் அமர்ந்திருந்த எம்.ஜிஆரிடம் தன்னை ஞாபகப்படுத்திக் கொள்ள அவருடன் நடித்ததையும் அவரோடு பழகிய பல்வேறு நினைவுகளையும் கூறி அவரது கவனத்தைத் திருப்ப முயற்சிக்கையில் அவை எதையும் புரிந்து கொள்ள முடியாத நிலையில் எங்கோ பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தாராம் தலைவர். ஆனால் புறப்படுகிறேன் என்று சொன்னவுடன் தன் தலையணையின் அடியிலிருந்து பணத்தை அள்ளிக் கொடுத்தார் என்று குறிப்பிட்டு, சுயநினைவற்ற நினையில் கூட அவரது வள்ளல் தன்மை மட்டும் அவரது மனத்தை விட்டு நீங்கவில்லை. தன்னை மறந்த நிலையிலும் தர்மத்தை அவர் மறக்கவில்லை எனக்குறிப்பிட்டது மிகவும் மனதைத் தொட்டது.http://i49.tinypic.com/2qbg5dd.jpg

Chakravarthy Thirumagal Story

மருத நகரத்து இளவரசிக்கு மணாளன் தேர்ந்தெடுக்க வேண்டும். அதற்காக ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்படுகிறது. ஒரு போட்டி. அதில் வெற்றி பெற்றால் அவளது கரம் பற்றலாம். உதயசூரியன் போட்டியில் வெற்றி பெறுகிறான். உதயசூரியன் மீது ஆசை கொண்டிருந்த துர்கா (இளவரசியின் தோழி) இளவரசிக்கு மயக்க மருந்தைக் கொடுத்து விட்டு உதயசூரியன் இருந்த முதலிரவு அறைக்குள் நுழைகிறாள். அவள்தான் இளவரசி என்று நினைக்கிறான் உதயசூரியன்.

இதற்கிடையில் உண்மையான இளவரசியான கலாமாலினியை அடைய விரும்பிய படைத் தளபதி பைரவன் மயங்கிக் கிடந்த இளவரசியைத் தூக்கிச் சென்றுவிடுகிறான். கடைசியாக உதயசூரியனுக்கு உண்மை தெரியவருகிறது. பெரிதும் முயன்று தேடி கலாமாலினியைக கண்டுபிடித்து விடுகிறான். இறுதிகட்ட சண்டையில் பைரவனைக் கொன்று கலாமாலினியைக் கரம் பிடிக்கிறான் உதயசூரியன். துர்கா பாம்பு கடித்து இறந்து போகிறாள்.

இதில் உதயசூரியனாக நமது தலைவர் எம்.ஜி.ஆர், கலாமாலினியாக அஞ்சலிதேவி, துர்காவாக எஸ்.வரலட்சுமி, படைத் தளபதியாக பி.எஸ்.வீரப்பா. படத்தினை இயக்கியவர் ப.நீலகண்டன்.

இப்படம் 1957ல் வெளியானது, அதே நேரத்தில் தி.மு.க. அறிஞர் அண்ணாவின் தலைமையில் முதன் முதலாக பொது தேர்தலில் போட்டியிட்டது. கட்சியின் சின்னம் உதயசூரியன் நமது தலைவரின் பெயரும் இந்த படத்தில் உதயசூரியன்.

Tributes to MGR on birth anniversary

Cadre of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) celebrated the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister M.G.Ramachandran in a grand manner. The party cadre took out a procession from Lawley Hall and garlanded the statue of MGR near the railway station.

Durai.Thirugnanam, Thanjavur Assembly constituency secretary led the procession. Pandarinathan, town secretary of the party, Amutharani Ravichandran, Chairperson of Thanjavur district panchayat council, former MLAs Panchavarnam, Ilamathi Subramanian garlanded the statue.

Partymen took out processions at various places in the district. They distributed sweets and crackers were burst at many places. Portraits of MGR were garlanded in different parts of the district and his film songs were played in loud speakers.

Cadre of AIADMK and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) paid their tributes to the late leader. They took out a procession and garlanded the statue, as a mark of respect to MGR. A.V.M.Baskar, town secretary, AIADMK, S.A.Sait alias Abdul Rahman, municipal chairman (in-charge), N.Jahir, district secretary, DMDK, and Singamuthu, its town secretary, garlanded the statue.

At several parts of district, portraits of MGR were displayed and popular numbers from old films were played through public address system.

Led by Vellamandi Natarajan, urban district presidium chairman, the AIADMK cadre garlanded the statue of their leader near the court campus.

A.Jaya, Mayor and K.K. Balasubramanian, former Minister, were present. Traffic in the Cantonment area went haywire as a large number of partymen converged around MGR Statue, a busy junction during the peak hour in the morning. Traffic had to be diverted as traffic snarls were created around Cantonment. At Subramanyapuram, the AIADMK cadre distributed sweets to the members of the public. At K.K. Nagar, the cadre distributed food to the weaker sections. Cadre of DMDK also paid tributes by garlanding the statue.

AIADMK cadre, including women, led by K.E. Krrishnamoorthy, M.L.A. representing Bargur and K. Ashok Kumar, Chairman, District Panchayat, garlanded the statue of the late leader at Kamaraj Nagar near the District Court.

Members of the various wings of the party were present on the occasion.

The party cadre also garlanded the statues of late M.G.Ramachandran at the same venue.

Large numbers of people were fed by the party cadres across the district.

தமிழக முன்னாள் முதலமைச்சர் எம்ஜிஆரின் 96-ஆவது பிறந்த நாள் இன்று கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. வேதனைகளும் சோதனைகளும், அவற்றை மீறி அவர் அடைந்த வெற்றிகளும், காட்டிய வற்றாத வள்ளல் தன்மையும் பற்றிக் குறிப்பிட அவருடைய வாழ்வில் நடந்த ஒரு சில நிகழ்ச்சிகளை மட்டும் நினைவு கூர்கிறேன்.

எம்ஜிஆரை நான் நேரடியாகச் சந்தித்தது 1953 ஆகஸ்டு மாதத்தில். அப்பொழுது தி.மு.கழகம் மும்முனைப் போராட்டத்தில் மும்முரமாக ஈடுபட்டிருந்தது. மூன்று வகையான போராட்டங்கள் ஜூலை 14 முதல் நடைபெறுமென தி.மு.கழகச் செயற்குழு ஜூலை 13 முடிவெடுத்தது.

(1) அப்பொழுதையக் காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சி அமல்படுத்தியக் "குலக் கல்வி' திட்டத்தை எதிர்த்து முதலமைச்சர் இல்லத்தின்முன் அறப்போர்.

(2) டால்மியாபுரம் என்பதைக் கல்லக்குடி என்று பெயர் மாற்றிடப் போராட்டம்.

(3) தமிழ்நாட்டில் கழகம் எடுத்த போராட்டங்களை "நான்சென்ஸ்' - முட்டாள்தனமானது என்று பிரதமர் நேரு கூறியதைக் கண்டித்து ரயில் நிறுத்தப் போராட்டம் ஆகியவையே அந்த மும்முனைப் போராட்டம்.

கழகச் செயற்குழு 1953 ஜூலை 13 கூடி இந்த முடிவுகளை எடுப்பதற்கு முன்னதாகவே போராட்ட காலத்தில் முக்கியமானவர்களுக்கு பொறுப்புகள் பிரித்துத் தரப்பட்டன. வட சென்னைச் சூரியநாராயணச் செட்டித்தெருவில் "அறிவாலயம்' இடத்திலிருந்து வெளிவந்த கழக "நம் நாடு' நாளேட்டை நடத்திடும் பொறுப்பு எனக்குத் தரப்பட்டது. ஆயினும் செயற்குழு கூடிய ஜூலை 13 இரவே அண்ணா, நெடுஞ்செழியன், ஈ.வி.கே. சம்பத், மதியழகன், என்.வி. நடராசன் ஆகியோர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுவிட்டனர்.

சென்னை, டால்மியாபுரம் இவைகளை மையமாகக் கொண்ட போராட்டங்கள் மீது போலீஸாரின் கடுமையான அடக்குமுறை தாண்டவமாடியது. அத்துடன், தமிழ்நாடெங்கும் ஆங்காங்கு ரயில் நிறுத்தப் போராட்டத்தில் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான தி.மு.க. தோழர்கள் தடியடி தர்பாருக்கு ஆளான செய்திகள் வந்தபடி இருந்தன. இரவு பகலாக "நம் நாடு' அச்சகத்திலேயே நான் தங்கிவிட்டேன், வரும் விவரங்களுக்குப் பதில் தரவும், செய்திகளை வரிசைப்படுத்தி வெளியிடவும். சென்னை மத்திய சிறைச்சாலையில் அண்ணாவிடம் நாள்தோறும் சென்று விவரங்களைச் சொல்லி, மேற்கொண்ட நடவடிக்கைகளுக்கு ஆலோசனை பெறுவதற்கே எனக்கு நேரம் சரியாக இருந்தது.

ஒரு நாள் காலை 11 மணி அளவில் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். கீழே வந்திருப்பதாக என்னிடம் தெரிவித்தனர். தமிழ்ப் படவுலகில் அவர் வேகமாகத் தலையெடுத்துவரும் காலம். அவருக்கு முன்னதாக நடிகர்கள் கே.ஆர். ராமசாமி, சிவாஜி கணேசன், எஸ்.எஸ். ராஜேந்திரன், டி.வி. நாராயணசாமி ஆகியோர் கழகத்தில் தீவிரப் பங்கு வகித்தனர். ஆனால் அவர்கள் யாரும் போராட்டத்தில் கலந்துகொள்ள வேண்டாம் என்று அண்ணா கண்டிப்பாகச் சொல்லியிருந்தார். அதற்குக் காரணம், நடிகர்களுக்குப் பலவகைகளில் தொடர்ந்து பல படங்களில் நடிக்கும் வாய்ப்பும் பொறுப்பும் இருக்கும். போராட்டத்தில் இறங்கினால் அவை பாதிக்கப்படும்.

ஆயினும் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். நடித்த "மந்திரி குமாரி' என்ற திரைப்படத்திற்கு கருணாநிதி வசனம் எழுதியிருந்தார். அந்தப் படம் 1950-இல் வெற்றிகரமாக ஓடியது. அது முதல் கழகத்துடன் எம்.ஜி.ஆருடைய தொடர்பு ஆரம்பித்தது எனலாம். அதற்கு முன்பு காங்கிரஸ் இயக்கத்தில் ஈடுபாடுடையவராக இருந்த எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அண்ணாவின் பேச்சிலும் எழுத்திலும் மிகவும் ஈர்க்கப்பட்டு 1952-இல் கழக உறுப்பினராகவும் ஆனார். திரையுலகில் மிகவும் சிறப்பான எதிர்காலம் அவருக்கு இருப்பதை அண்ணா உணர்ந்துகொண்டார்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆரும் அண்ணாவிடம் தனிப்பட்ட மரியாதையுடன். கழக நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் கலந்துகொள்வதுடன், கழகத்தின் தீர்மானங்கள், கோட்பாடுகள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் மிகவும் உறுதியான ஈடுபாட்டுடன் செயல்பட்டார்.

"நம் நாடு' அலுவலகத்தில் கீழ்ப்பகுதியில் அச்சடிக்கும் வேலை நடைபெற்றது. மேல் தளத்தில் ஒரு நீண்ட அறையும், கீற்றுக் கொட்டகையும் இருந்தன. பெரும்பாலும், எழுதும் வேலைகள் மேல் தள அறையில் நடைபெறும். எம்ஜிஆர் வந்ததும் என்னருகில் இருந்த நாற்காலியில் அமர்ந்து, "மத்திய சிறையில் இருக்கும் அண்ணாவை நான் பார்க்கலாமா? அண்ணாவை ஒரு வாரத்துக்கு முன்பு பார்த்தபொழுது பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தேன்; அப்பொழுது அவர், ஏதாவது முக்கியமானதாக இருந்தால் - அநேகமாக நாங்கள் சிறையில் இருந்தாலும் - செழியன் வெளியில்தான் இருப்பார். அவரைக் கலந்து கொள்ளுங்கள் என்று சொன்னார். அதனால்தான் உங்களிடம் வந்தேன்' என்றார்.

"சிறையிலிருக்கும் அண்ணாவைப் பார்க்கச் செல்வது சற்று சிக்கலான பிரச்னை; அண்ணா குடும்பத்தினரும் நெருங்கிய கழகத்தினரும் பார்ப்பதற்கே மிகவும் நெருக்கடி இருக்கும். உடனடியாக என்னால் அதை நிர்ணயிக்க முடியாது. அண்ணாவுடன் இதுபற்றிப் பேசிவிட்டு உங்களிடம் தெரிவிக்கிறேன். ஆனாலும் நீங்கள் மீண்டும் இங்கு வரவேண்டாம். அண்ணாவின் பதிலை நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லி அனுப்புகிறேன்' என்றேன்.

என் மனதில் முதலில் உண்டான தயக்கம், கழகப் போராட்டத்தில் எம்ஜிஆரும் பங்கு பெறுவதாக போலீஸார் நினைத்துவிடக்கூடாது என்பதுதான். சிறிது நேரமே அவர் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தாலும், அவரிடம் ஒருவகை பெருந்தன்மையும் பொறுமையும் இருந்தன. எம்ஜிஆர் வந்ததை இரண்டு நாள்களில் அண்ணாவிடம் தெரிவித்துவிட்டேன். அண்ணா, "நீ நினைப்பதுதான் சரியானது; போலீஸ் நடவடிக்கைகள் நம்மீது பாய்வதை விட அவர்மீதும் கடுமையாகப் பாயும். அதை நாம் தவிர்க்க வேண்டும். அதனால்தான் கழகத்தில் உள்ள நடிகர்களை இந்தப் போராட்டத்தில் கலந்துகொள்ள வேண்டாம் என்று முன்னதாகவே நான் சொன்னேன்' என்றார்.

அண்ணா கூறியதை என் நண்பர் ஒருவர் மூலம் எம்ஜிஆருக்குத் தெரிவித்தேன். அண்ணா விடுதலையானதும் அவரைப் பார்க்க எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அடிக்கடி வருவார். அப்பொழுதெல்லாம் என்னிடமும் பேசுவார்.

திரைப்பாடல்களிலும் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். தோன்றும் காட்சிகளிலும் அண்ணா பற்றிய குறிப்புகள் இருக்கும், அண்ணாவின் படமும் அவருக்கு அருகில் நேரடியாகத் தெரியும். "மூன்றெழுத்தில் என் மூச்சிருக்கும்...' என்று திரையில் அவர் பாடினால், கொட்டகை அதிரும்; அந்த வரி அண்ணா, திமுக ஆகியவற்றைக் குறிப்பிடுகிறது என்று கழகத்தினர் ஆரவாரம் செய்வார்கள்.

1962 மக்கள் சபைக்கான பொதுத்தேர்தலில் அண்ணா திருச்சி பெரம்பலூர் தொகுதியில் கழகத்தின் வேட்பாளராக என்னை அறிவித்துவிட்டார். தேர்தலில் - அதுவும் நாடாளுமன்றத்துக்கு - போட்டியிட வேண்டிய அளவுக்கு நான் தயாராக இல்லை. அந்தத் தொகுதியில் எனக்கு அதற்கு முன் எத்தகைய தொடர்பும் பழக்கமும் கிடையாது.

ஆயினும் தேர்தல் துவக்கத்துக்கு இரண்டு வாரங்களுக்கு முன்னதாக, எம்ஜிஆரைச் சந்தித்தபொழுது. அவர் மிக உற்சாகத்துடன் என்னிடம் பேசினார். "உங்கள் தொகுதியில் உள்ள ஐந்து சட்டசபைத் தொகுதிகளிலும் ஒவ்வொரு கூட்டத்துக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்யுங்கள். இரண்டு நாள்களில் நான் அங்கு வந்து விடுகிறேன். அப்பொழுது கூட்டங்களை மண்டபங்களில் வைத்து ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் ரூ. 5 என்று கட்டணம் போட்டு கழகத்துக்கான நிதிகளைச் சேர்ப்போம்' என்றார்.

அந்த வகையில் அவர் வந்ததும் ஒவ்வொரு சட்டசபைத் தொகுதியிலும் ரூ.1,000 அல்லது 1,200 கிடைத்தது. அந்தக் காலத்தில் அது பெரிய தொகை. கிடைத்த பணத்தை அந்தந்த தொகுதி சட்டசபை வேட்பாளரிடம் தந்துவிட்டேன். எம்ஜிஆர் வந்ததால் நல்ல பிரசாரமும் பண உதவியும் கிட்டின. மக்களிடமும் கழகச் செயலாளர்களிடமும் பெருத்த வரவேற்பையும் உற்சாகத்தையும் உண்டாக்கின.

நாடாளுமன்றத் தேர்தலுக்கு கழகத்திலிருந்து எனக்குத் தரப்பட்ட பணம் ரூ.2,500 தான். அது ஒரு வாடகைக் காரை நாளொன்றுக்கு ரூ. 30-க்கு அமர்த்தவும் அதற்கான பெட்ரோல் செலவுக்கும் பயன்பட்டது. மற்ற வகைகளில் கூட்டங்கள் போடுவதையும் சைக்கிள் ஊர்வலம் வைப்பதையும் கழகத்தினரே செய்தனர். காங்கிரஸ் சார்பில், அங்கு இருமுறை நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினராக இருந்த பழனியாண்டி மீண்டும் போட்டியிட்டார், அதற்கு உட்பட்ட ஐந்து சட்டசபைத் தொகுதிகளிலும் காங்கிரஸ் சட்டசபை உறுப்பினர்கள்தாம் 1957 தேர்தலில் வெற்றி பெற்றிருந்தார்கள். இவை போதாதென்று டால்மியா சிமென்ட் தொழிற்சாலை முதலாளியின் பணமும் செல்வாக்கும் காங்கிரஸýக்குப் பெரும் உதவியாக இருந்தன.

முதலில் எம்ஜிஆர் ஐந்து சட்டசபைத் தொகுதிகளிலும் செய்த பிரசாரமும் பிறகு அண்ணாவின் பிரசாரமும் தொகுதியில் வேகமாகப் பரவின. கழகத் தோழர்களும், பொதுமக்களும், படித்த இளைஞர்களும் மிகவும் உறுதியுடனும் உற்சாகத்துடனும் தொகுதியில் எங்கும் தேர்தல் பணிகளைச் செம்மைப்படச் செய்தார்கள்.

1962 தேர்தல் முடிவுகள் எல்லோருக்கும் தெரிந்ததே. நான் பெரும்பாலான வாக்கு வித்தியாசத்தில் வெற்றி பெற்றேன். பெரம்பலூர் நாடாளுமன்றத் தொகுதியில் இருந்த ஐந்து சட்டசபைத் தொகுதிகளிலும் கழக வேட்பாளர்கள் வெற்றி அடைந்தனர். ஆயினும் காஞ்சிபுரம் தொகுதியில் அண்ணா தோற்றுவிட்டது எங்களுக்குப் பேரிடியாக இருந்தது.

தேர்தலுக்குப் பிறகு அண்ணாவைச் சந்தித்தபொழுது என்னால் பேசமுடியவில்லை. என் துயரம் கண்களிலிருந்து நீராகச் சொரிந்தது. அண்ணா என்னைத் தட்டிக் கொடுத்து, "நீ பெற்ற வெற்றியை நான் பெற்ற வெற்றியாக நினைக்கிறேன். கவலைப்படாதே' என்றார். 1962 சட்டசபைத் தேர்தலில் அண்ணா தோல்வியடைந்தாலும் அது ஒருவகையில் நன்மையையே தந்தது; அவரை மாநிலங்களவைக்கு அனுப்பிவைத்தது. அங்கு அவருடைய வெளிப்படையான பேச்சு பிறரைக் கவர்ந்தது மட்டுமல்ல, அவர் ஐந்தாண்டு காலம் நான் இருந்த இல்லத்திலேயே தங்கியிருந்தார், அவருடைய நெருங்கிய உறவும் வாழ்வும் நாடாளுமன்ற நடவடிக்கைகளில் எனக்கு ஒரு முதல்தரமான வழிகாட்டியாக இருந்தன.

1967 தேர்தல் காலத்தில் எம்ஜிஆர் குண்டடிபட்டு சென்னை மருத்துவமனையில் படுத்திருந்தார். சென்னை வளசரவாக்கத்தில் நடைபெற்ற கழக மாநாட்டில் - அங்குதான் ராஜாஜி, காயிதே மில்லத், பி. ராமமூர்த்தி ஆகியவர்களை வைத்து அண்ணாவினால் காங்கிரஸ் எதிர்ப்பு அணியை தமிழ்நாட்டில் உண்டாக்க முடிந்தது - கலந்துகொண்ட ராஜாஜி சொன்னார்: "படுத்துக்கொண்டே ஜெயிப்பேன் என்று காங்கிரஸ் தலைவர் ஒருவர் கூறியிருக்கிறார். படுத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கலாம், ஆனால் இந்தத் தடவை ஜெயிக்கமுடியாது' என்று அவருக்குரிய அமைதியுடன் கூறியது மாநாட்டில் பெரும் ஆரவாரத்தை உண்டாக்கியது. அந்தத் தேர்தல் போட்டியில் "படுத்துக் கொண்டே ஜெயித்தவர்' எம்ஜிஆர்தாம்.

"திரையுலகின் சிங்கம் எம்ஜிஆர்' அனைத்திந்திய அண்ணா திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழகத்தின் வெள்ளி விழா மலர் 1997- இல் வெளியிடப்பட்டது. அதை அண்மையில் கண்ணுற்றேன். அதில் எம்ஜிஆர் பற்றி அண்ணா கூறிய கருத்துகள் சிலவற்றைத் தொகுத்துள்ளனர். அந்த மலரில் தரப்பட்டுள்ள அண்ணாவின் ஒரு கருத்து, " எம்ஜிஆர் கழகத்தின் கண்மணி, கலை உலகத்தின் நன்மணி; குணத்தில் தங்கம், கொதித்தெழுந்தால் சிங்கம்' என்பதாகும்.

சிங்கம் பீடு நடையுடன் வந்த வழியை திரும்பிப் பார்க்குமாம் - அதை அரிமா நோக்கு என்பார்கள். அதைப்போல் எம்ஜிஆர் திரையுலகில் புரிந்த சாதனைகளை சற்றுத் திரும்பிப் பார்க்கலாம்.

எம்ஜிஆர் நடித்த படங்கள் 138. அதில் கதாநாயகனாக இருந்த படங்கள் 117. அவற்றில் 100 நாள்கள் விழா கண்ட படங்கள் 66. வெள்ளிவிழா (25 வாரங்கள்) கொண்டாடிய படங்கள் 17. என் தங்கை படம் 350 நாள்களுக்கு மேலும் வெற்றிப் படமாக விளங்கியது.

எம்ஜிஆர் பெற்ற விருதுகள்:

1954 - மலைக் கள்ளன் - இந்திய அரசாங்க விருது.

1956 - அலிபாபா நாற்பது திருடர்கள் - பிலிம் ரசிகர்கள் விருது 1967.

1967 - காவல்காரன், தமிழ்நாடு அரசாங்க விருது.

1968 - குடியிருந்த கோயில், தமிழ்நாடு அரசாங்க விருது.

1969 - அடிமைப் பெண், தமிழ்நாடு அரசாங்கப் பரிசு, பிலிம்பேர் விருது.

1972 - ரிக்ஷாகாரன், சிறந்த நடிகர் -தேசிய விருது.

1978 - மதுரையை மீட்ட சுந்தரபாண்டியன், சிறந்த படம்- தமிழ்நாடு அரசாங்க விருது.

கெüரவ டாக்டர் பட்டம் - அமெரிக்க அரிசோனா பல்கலைக்கழகம்.

1988 - (இறந்தபின்) பாரத் ரத்னா விருது.

மேலும் 1960-இல் இந்திய அரசாங்கம் தந்த பத்மஸ்ரீ விருதை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள எம்ஜிஆர் மறுத்துவிட்டார். அதற்கு அவர் சொன்ன காரணம், "அந்த விருது தமிழில் எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளலாம். இந்தியில் இருந்தபடியால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை'.

நான் இந்தக் கட்டுரைக்கு "இதயம் கனிந்த எம்ஜிஆர்' என்ற தலைப்பில் ஆரம்பித்தேன். அதைப் பார்த்ததும் பலருக்கும் அண்ணா - எம்ஜிஆர் காலத்தில் இருந்தவர்களுக்கு - எம்ஜிஆர் பற்றி அண்ணா கூறிய "இதயக்கனி' என்ற பாராட்டுரை நினைவுக்கு வந்திருக்கும். அண்ணா கூறியதை நான் இங்கு தருகிறேன்.

""என்னை அறியாமலேயே என் மடியில் கனி ஒன்று வந்து விழுந்தது கண்டேன். அதன் அருமை கருதி அதனை எடுத்து என் இதயத்திலே வைத்துக்கொண்டேன். அதுதான் எம்ஜிஆர்.''

அண்ணா கூறிய இதயக்கனி என்பது மிகச் சிறந்த பாராட்டுரையாக ஆகி, எம்ஜிஆர் நடித்த ஒரு படத்துக்கே அந்தப் பெயர் தரப்பட்டது. இதயக் கனி என்று அண்ணா கூறியது கிடைத்த கனியைப் பாதுகாப்பாக இதயத்தில் வைத்துக் கொண்டேன் என்பது.

வேறொரு வகையில் நான் நினைப்பது, எம்ஜிஆர் அவர்களே கனிந்த இதயம் படைத்தவர் என்பதுதான்.

எல்லாவற்றையும்விட மேலாக எம்ஜிஆர் பற்றி அண்ணா ஒன்றைக் கூறியிருக்கிறார். அதுவும் மேலே குறிப்பிட்ட அஇஅதிமுக வெள்ளிவிழா மலரில் வெளிவந்துள்ளது. அந்த கருத்தாவது, ""எம்.ஜி.ஆர் என்றேனும் ஒரு நாள், ஒருக்கால் அரசியலில் பொறுப்பேற்றுச் செயல்படுவாரேயானால், அதிலும் அவரது தனி முத்திரை பதிக்கப்படும் என்பது தெளிவு''.

மிகவும் பிரமிக்கத்தக்க, ஆச்சரியமான அண்ணாவின் இந்தத் தெளிவான தொலைநோக்குப் பார்வை - எம்ஜிஆரால் தனிமுத்திரை பதிக்கப்பட்ட ஆட்சி - அண்ணாவுக்குப் பின் வந்த தமிழக அரசியல் வரலாற்றில் மெய்ப்பிக்கப்பட்டுவிட்டது.

1969-இல் நம்மை விட்டு மறைவதற்கு முன்னதாகவே அவருக்குப் பின் கழகத்தில் பிளவு ஏற்படக்கூடும் என்பதை அண்ணா ஓரளவு யூகித்திருக்கிறார் என்று தோன்றுகிறது.

MGR’s 96th Birthday Celebration

The 96th birthday of the late and legendary MG Ramachandran (MGR) was observed with gaiety and fanfare yesterday by his fans, admirers and followers all over Tamil Nadu and elsewhere. It’s been 36 long years since MGR’s last film released in 1977 yet the craze among the public to watch him TV hasn’t receded a single bit , which is attributed to the greatness of MGR, the ‘magician’.

MGR passed away in 1987 , but still his deeds are spoken about and his films/songs are remembered, recalled and played out in radio and television channels. Born to Gopala Menon and Sathyabama in 1917 in Sri Lanka’s Kandy, MGR lost his father when he was barely 3 years old and was later brought to Tamil Nadu along with elder brother Chakrapani by his mother.

Making debut in Sathi Leelavathi (1936), MGR had gone on to do 136 films , Maduraiyai Meetta Sundharapandian (1977) was his last film. Till the emergence of Rajinikanth, MGR held the highest percentage of hits vis-à-vis the number of films he starred.



Legendary lyricist Kannadasan, considered by many as the best lyricist in Tamil films, wrote lyrics for 50 of MGR’s films. The Achcham Enbadhu…. song penned by Kannadasan for MGR’s Mannadhi Mannan is one of MGR’s favourites and that he would prefer to hear at times.



A great technician, MGR also directed super-duper films such as Nadodi Mannan, Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban and Maduraiyai Meetta Sundarapandian. Saroja Devi and the present chief minister Jayalalithaa starred in most number of films opposite MGR.

ஏழை, எளிய மக்களின் இதயங்களில் என்றென்றும் நிறைந்து விளங்கும், மாசில்லா மாணிக்கம்; வருடங்கள் கரைந்தாலும் முழு நிலவாய் நிலைத்த புகழ் கொண்ட நிகரில்லா வள்ளல்; மதங்கள் உலவும் மனங்களில் மனிதாபிமானங்களை வளர்த்த மனித நேயப் பண்பாளர்; எனது அரசியல் ஆசான், கழக நிறுவனத் தலைவர், எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் 96​வது பிறந்தநாள் விழாவினை முன்னிட்டு இன்று (நேற்று) கோத்தகிரியில் நிறுவப்பட்டிருக்கும் அவரது திருவுருவச் சிலையை திறந்து வைத்ததில் எல்லையில்லா ஆனந்தமும் பெருமகிழ்ச்சியும் அடைகின்றேன்.

இருந்தாலும் மறைந்தாலும் பேர் சொல்ல வேண்டும், இவர் போல யார் என்று ஊர் சொல்ல வேண்டும் என்ற பாடல் வரிகளுக்கு ஏற்ப, தமிழக மக்களின் இதய தெய்வமாக விளங்கும் நம் எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு, நீலகிரி மாவட்டத்தில் சிலை இல்லை என்பதை அறிந்து, உடனடியாக அதை நிறுவ நடவடிக்கை எடுக்குமாறு மாவட்டக் கழகச் செயலாளரை கேட்டுக் கொண்டேன்.

காரணம் ....MGR அவர்களின் கடைசி நாட்களில் அவரை சந்தித்து உதவி கேட்டேன் .....இரண்டு நாட்கள் கழித்து வாருங்கள் தருகிறேன் என்று சொன்னார் ......நான் மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருந்தபோது அவர் மரண செய்தி கேட்டு அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்து வேதனையில் இருந்தேன் .....ஆனால் ...சிலதினங்களில் தொலைபேசியில் MGR அவர்களின் தொண்டர் ஒருவர் என்னை கூப்பிட்டு " தலைவரிடம் நீங்கள் உதவி கேட்டிருந்தீர்களா ....அதை நான் தருகிறேன் வந்து வாங்கிச் செல்லுங்கள் " என்றார் .... ....எனவே "எப்படி உனக்குமட்டும் இப்படி தொண்டர்கள் ?" என்று கேட்பேன் என்று சொன்னார் .

-----ஆம் புரட்சி தலைவரின் வழிநடக்கும் உண்மையான தொடர்களும் வள்ளல்களே.

Doctor Abraham Sukumar (First Doctor who treated MGR on 12th January 1967 in Royapettah Hospital) his account is given below.

This is a true first hand account

Thursday 12 January 1967
I was duty assistant surgeon for the day in the Govt Royapettah Hospital, Madras. I was in my room after evening OP. It had been an unusually quiet day. Traffic accidents in that busy residential district and on the main arterial Mount Road that runs close by usually come straight to GRH. In those days general surgeons had to see all surgical emergences for though Orthopaedics, ENT and other departments existed they did not have sufficient number of assistants for night duty postings. At about 5 PM the casualty medical officer called wanting me to come urgently to the department. ‘MGR has been brought here after a shooting accident,’ he said.

I was in the casualty soon after. The familiar figure of MGR was on one of the two couches of the casualty theatre. Without makeup and wig he looked more handsome than he did on the screen. I asked him what happened and he said that M.R. Radha (the popular movie villain/comedian) had shot him in the ear. I had come with the notion that during film shooting an accident had occurred. Apparently it was not an accident and the shooting was not with camera by with a gun. I examined the ear wound. There was tattooing round the entry wound indicating that the nozzle of the gun was almost touching the skin when the trigger was pulled.

For a person who has received a bullet into his head from such close quarters MGR was quite comfortable. He was not agitated by an event that could well have ended his life and there is no doubt that the passage of the bullet into the sensitive tissues of the back of the throat would have been severely discomforting. But his total nonchalance was quite remarkable. In true life he proved to be the as much the hero he was on the silver screen.

MGR could hear my watch in the affected ear and there was no facial paralysis His familiar voice was unchanged. Some weeks later when he emerged from hospital his voice was slurred. As the first doctor to have seen him after the injury I can say with certainty that the nerve damage that caused the slurring was not by the bullet. (The Wikipedia entry that says he was shot in the throat and that affected his voice is incorrect.)

The casualty officer now came in with the news that M.R. Radha the person who had shot MGR was being wheeled into the casualty. It appears that he had shot himself in the temple after shooting MGR. I moved to the passage. Radha lay on the stretcher eyes open and alert. He spoke in his familiar rasping voice.

"Naan thaan sutteen. Policeukku statement koduthacchu." (I was the one who shot. I have given statement to the police.)
There was a bullet entry
hole in the temple and a swelling surrounding the wound. Both had been shot from close quarters but other than the entry wound neither had any other demonstrable damage to their tissues. The bullets had lodged in the tissues for there were no exit wounds. Later it came to be known that the pistol and bullets had remained unused for years. As I was examining him Radha spoke again. In movies he had two voices. His usual voice was the rasping one. He had another shriller voice much loved by audiences that he used for his punch lines. He now spoke in that voice.

"Are any of you Brahmins?" he asked. Even though he was a high profile member of E.V. Ramawamy Periyar’s anti-Brahmin DK party it was very surprising that a man who had just tried to kill himself should raise that question. In trauma wards accident victims cowering with fear or being hysterical is a common sight. Here two men with fresh bullets in their heads were unconcerned about it. Show business must be a good training ground for meeting crises in life. A lifetime spent pandering to the unpredictable tastes of the fickle public is good training ground for political life too. When actors take to political leadership no doubt they do well. Radha soon found himself on the other couch next to where MGR lay. There were only two couches in the casualty. The aggressor and victim lay hardly a metre from each other. This is not an uncommon situation in hospital trauma wards. It never causes problems.

It was then that I noted that the news had spread and a crowd was gathering. In fact in that short while the crowd had become quite dense. The hospital compound was kept relatively free by police but Westcott road in front of the hospital was jam packed and blocked by a mass of humanity. People packed the veranda and terrace of the YMCA building opposite. Senior police officers were active in the casualty. Leading Madras doctors appeared as if by magic though none was called in consultation except my chief Dr. Saratchandra. The ENT surgeon appeared with his head mirror. He demanded that his name must be entered in the accident register. ‘I must be called to court to give evidence,’ he said. The desire for publicity is not confined to those in the show business. MGR personal doctor Dr. B.R. Subramanium now joined the team that had unofficially formed. With the hospital superintendent Dr. M.V. Krishamurthi in charge my role as duty surgeon was not mine anymore not that there was anything to be done in the casualty. I saw to it that only medical personal entered the casualty theatre.

There were two unusual visitors. A middle aged woman of a rural cast rushed in anxiously asking if Radha was in danger. The nurse assured her that he was not and sent her away with some difficulty. Soon another woman came in with the same agitated query. We reassured her also of Radha’s safety and sent her away. Off duty nurses from the quarters now came in a group to see the matinee idol suitably dressed for the occasion. I asked them to have a peep and then go away lest they be mistaken for M.R. Radha’s friends. They took the hint and left.

Four men were standing at the casualty theatre door in clear view of the patients. They stood there with respect to hospital regulations without trying to get in though they would have been bursting with desire to have a word with MGR. Three of them I recognized. One was actor Asokan. He was visibly upset. The other was C.N. Annadurai head of the DMK party of which MGR was a prominent member and was in fact a candidate in the election due shortly. Standing by his side was M. Karunanithi. I have attended C.N. Annadurai’s meetings and heard his fiery speeches. I have not seen M. Karunanithi before. He was youthful and handsome and in spite of his relatively small size had a presence. They stood there quite calm and collected. If anyone had told me at that moment that three future Chief Ministers of Tamilnadu were in within metres of each other in that small space I would have put that man down as a lunatic.

Back in GRH it was apparent that the patients needed to be in the General Hospital. Soon a convoy led by a lorry packed with MGR fans with the president of the fans association standing on top shouting slogans left for General Hospital. Westcott road reopened to the public and once again asthmatics could come to the casualty for their injections. In GH surgeons failed to extract the bullet. Some days after discharge feeling something loose in the back of his throat MGR went back to hospital where a surgeon removed the bullet by a simple incision. The bullet had loosened and eroded towards the surface as foreign bodies often do. In the court case that followed M.R. Radha was sentenced to a term of imprisonment. He was released in due course and died a free man. C.N. Annadurai became chief minister but he passed away within two years (3 Feb 1969) and M. Karunanithi took over. The M. Karunanithi – MGR rivalry that followed is too fresh to need retelling. MGR’s splinter party won the election in 1977 and he was Chief Minister till his death in 1987 after a long illness.

காரணம் ....MGR அவர்களின் கடைசி நாட்களில் அவரை சந்தித்து உதவி கேட்டேன் .....இரண்டு நாட்கள் கழித்து வாருங்கள் தருகிறேன் என்று சொன்னார் ......நான் மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருந்தபோது அவர் மரண செய்தி கேட்டு அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்து வேதனையில் இருந்தேன் .....ஆனால் ...சிலதினங்களில் தொலைபேசியில் MGR அவர்களின் தொண்டர் ஒருவர் என்னை கூப்பிட்டு " தலைவரிடம் நீங்கள் உதவி கேட்டிருந்தீர்களா ....அதை நான் தருகிறேன் வந்து வாங்கிச் செல்லுங்கள் " என்றார் .... ....எனவே "எப்படி உனக்குமட்டும் இப்படி தொண்டர்கள் ?" என்று கேட்பேன் என்று சொன்னார் .

Sree Sitharan one of my friend. He has given an small write up about our beloved Leader MGR.

We come across many people in our life – some are incidental and others are pertinent to our experience. But as we journey through in time, we tend to forget those moments, the people and the encounters. Here I must acknowledge that the only instants that have stayed for so long in my life are the philosophies and teachings of a man, a man born to lead by his acute personality as well as his portrayals on screen. That man is my dearest ‘Vathiar Makkal Thilagam MGR”. My fascination with MGR started at the age of 14, when my friend took me to a film for the very first time in my life as if destiny brought me to meet my “Thalaivar”. MGR appeared on the screen simultaneously entering my life through the movie “Deivathai”. The film and especially the song “Moondru Yezhuthil Yen Moochu” captured my thinking and attention as I was mesmerized by the emergence of my hero.

From that point onwards, I started to go for all the MGR’s movies. I pay great deal of attention to the details of MGR’s songs as I felt that whenever the songs are played, some great wisdom is delivered. As life went on, I too was carried away by the superficial joys of life from the habits of drinking and smoking. At the age of 25, a great change came into me when I watched the film “Oli Vilaku”. The song “Dairiyamaga” poked my conscience and I immediately abandon my bad habits. I can honestly say that my attitude and outlooks towards life is formed at that very moment in time. I am banished from cigarettes and liquor from then on and I have not gone back to such vices till now. MGR became my role model and a huge component in my life. The most beautiful day that I will never forget, will be the day when I met MGR personally and shake hand with him during the shooting of “Ulagam Sutrum Valiban” in the year 1970.

I admire his style and acting in films. My most favorite films are “Ayirathil Oruvan” and “Ulagam Sutrum Valiban”. I always strived to be like him, especially his portrayals in these films and in my attempts to embody the experience of being MGR, I ended up making short music videos. The most significant music video that I cherish deeply is “Ulagam Pirantha Enakage”. I have tried my level best to expose and enlighten my children with the philosophies and life of MGR. I as explain the meanings and context of each motivational songs of MGR, it has been instrumental for me to guide my children in the proper path of succeeding in life.

Today I am proud with the achievements of my children, thanks to my “Thalaivar”. The most significant moment of me thanking my hero came when I was in America for my son’s graduation. My son asked me “What do you want to see in America and what do you want to do here?” He promised that whatever my request might be, he would fulfill. With a great outburst of joy I told him that I wanted to sing and dance like my “Thalaivar” and you must record it. Initially my son hesitated but with the obligation to keep his promise, he agreed. I was running around dancing in the middle of San Francisco with the song “Puthiya Vanam Puthiya Bhoomi” playing in the background. It was truly a remarkable experience that later became a collaborative piece of video art that I created with my son. We did many other music videos together from then onwards.

This video clip is now in the permanent collection of a museum in Malaysia. Today, as my son made his career as a successful media artist in Malaysia, his collaboration with me – the beautiful, wonderful and potent songs of my “Thalaivar” has become a crucial video work that has become part of the national art heritage. Our collaborative video music are published, written about, researched and collected by official institutions. I am grateful to my MGR and I can go on to write pages after pages of instances where MGR has been (and still is) an all-inspiring beacon in my life. It’s never is enough to speak about “Thalaivar” and I hope this sincere confession will inspire many more generations to come - of the goodness and strength that I have gained from my hero.
