i thought Modi would garner 150 out of 182 seats..........but the voting pattern shows still there are areas where he can improve -
people still feel he is anti-muslim,
development is not enough,
development is not spread all across..........

next time maybe :-) 6th straight loss to congress in the state......all corners of the country - TN, Gujarat, West Bengal, J&K - congress is being wiped out

May be if he had fielded Muslim candidates in Muslim dominated areas, he could have scored but this time there was no single candidate. Consiciously he must have taken a decision . Today, having set a good benchmark from his earlier performances, now they are being seen as yardsticks for his improved performance and thats where one may get slightly disappointed. If we compare Gujarat's progress with states like UP, Orissa or TN etc, the gap will be phenomenal !

Having said this, I have one question to Modi. We dont hear any name in BJP Gujarat other than Narendra Modi . He should develop more Modis.

There is a contrary view being presented in this article. Is this hype as they claim it to be ?

Terrific comments to the article as well:

What a frustratingly one-sided, biased, and conjectured article on Modi. Even after the courts have absolved him of hate crime, and leaders across the country & world have praised his model of development, Ms Smita is completely occluded by her own personal hatred and is bitter at his success. She may as well include her choicest abuses in Hindi/Tamil/English abuses in the article.
Fall from grace for The Hindu.

So if Media is to be believed we are cultish, delusionist, all Patel's are a caste, we are
starving and most are stupid. When will u stop insulting us? We are educated, a
smart & civil, No constant harassment, No gang Rapes, Stop demonising Gujarati's,
we are Humans & Indians too

Everyone seems to drag Modi into a communal puddle...he is above it. The
people are no longer going to vote based on caste and religion. They are
going to vote for progress. And thats where Modi wins.
The congress has been fooling the nation by dividing it into upper/lower
castes, hindu/muslim, rich/poor etc.
its sad to see Sumita Gupta is write such a piece of article

Very Biased Article written by a typical "Outsider" from Gujarat's
perspective. I am from Delhi and have lived in Gujarat (Narendra
Modi's ) Gujarat not of today but 7 years back, and saw the
development, law and order etc from my own eyes.

Its a shame that English Pseudo Intellectual press have only contempt
towards Modi, you can't see his good work but only his designer
labels.

I would just say, shows the kind of delusion journalists like these
live in!

hmm the above is an entirely subjective claim, but leaving that aside and moving on....

the article may be biased and one sided, but does raise some questions echoed by other publications/blogs about social inequity at the cost of development. Let's also not forget that the congress has made some inroads into the bjp vote bank this time. Gujarat has always been a reasonably well performing state compared to the national average growth rate.

It is sad that any article questioning the claims of the modi govt's overall success is seen as slanderous and clueless. If these claims are bogus refute them with numbers and we all can learn better.
