We had earlier reported that Dhanush is making a guest appearance in Ethir Neechal through a ‘Kuthu’ song. We have now come to know that it is not just him making an appearance, but Nayanthara too. The actress, who is on a comeback mode, has danced for a Kuthu number along with Dhanush.
The shoot for the song has been happening for the past two days. The film, directed by Senthil stars Siva Karthikeyan and Priyya Anand in the lead and Anirudh, who mesmerized everyone with his music in 3, has composed for this film too. Sony Music holds the music rights for the film and has decided to release it on 14th December.

Dhanush, apart from producing the film, has written and crooned a couple of songs.

Ethir Neechal Music Review – First On Net

The most expected audio of the season Ethir Neechal directed by RS.Durai Senthilkumar and produced by actor Dhanush has music composed by Anirudh. After an album like 3 which gave hit tracks like the world famous Why this Kolaveri di and Po Nee Po, it is tough to cater to the expectations of the audience but Anirudh manages to exceed ones expectation. The album is a varied mix of different genres. Every individual has something to like about this audio. Starting from a melody to a local kuthu, you have it all . All said and done by far Ethir Neechal is the Best Album of The Year. Though Kadal is expected to rock the charts from 17th , we are sure no one can stop this music from roaring in each every house hold . Anirudh has done it again.

Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films presents Ethir Neechal, featuring Siva Kathikeyan with two pretty women for company in the form of Priya Anand and Nandita. There is also an experienced support cast comprising the likes of Jayaprakash and Raviprakash to back the main leads.

The main protagonist in Ethir Neechal feels that the name that was bestowed on him after birth, is his biggest undoing as he becomes the butt of ridicule due to this unique name. He then gets himself a new name and just as things start falling in place for him thanks to a new job and a pretty girlfriend, they come back to square one due to his original name. He then decides to get rid of his ‘slacker’ attitude and wishes to achieve something in life.

The Chennai Marathon gives him that opportunity and the rest of the movie is about how he swims against all odds and proves a point to himself and his dear ones and also how he uncovers a pertinent issue to the society as a whole.

Ethir Neechal provides a wholesome package which combines elements like comedy, romance, hardship, inspiration and ultimate fruition in the end. The first half is mostly a breeze thanks to the situations arising from the hero’s unique name and his efforts to change it. There is a whole lot of wordplay involved such as Kenayan being addressed as K9.

Siva Karthikeyan and his friend are the typical cinema combo where the friend stands by the hero all along and provides plenty of light moments. These two rule the first half. Priya Anand is the romantic interest of Siva and she plays a beautiful teacher and has a small role in Siva’s transformation. The scenes when Siva woos Priya, using a small school kid in his neighborhood, provide some healthy laughs.

Nandita has a more substantial role from the second half onwards as Valli, Siva’s trainer and a former promising athlete whose prospects are ruined by a doctored hormone test.

The film throws light on the hardships that humble athletes have to encounter in the face of the rich, influential people who matter. In these segments, the ambitions that a dad has for his daughter and his efforts in bringing her talent to light, have been portrayed well. There is also a subtle mother sentiment angle earlier in the movie, between Siva and his self-respecting mother who struggles to raise him single-handedly.

Anirudh is the biggest backbone of the movie with his background score lifting each scene and putting it on a pedestal. This youngster is surely a tremendous talent and watch out for him in a cheeky cameo as a bartender. His songs are already fan favorites and each of them earns the whistles and claps from the excited crowd.

Dhanush’s cameo in a Kuthu song at the bar will please his fans while Nayanthara, in another cameo, doesn’t have much screen-time in the same song.

The movie’s production values come across in the way the marathon has been picturized in an intricate manner. Though the action in the marathon is cinematic, the milieu appears authentic and Velraj’s work behind the lens spells quality as always. The training period that Siva goes through before his appearance at the marathon has also been presented seriously but with a tinge of lightheartedness running through it.

On the whole, though the movie isn’t very racy, it offers something for the entire family. Beyond just being a mindless romantic comedy, it also makes some valid points about the state of poor athletes in the country.

Verdict: A wholesome package which has something in it for everyone.

Synopsis: A young man embarrassed with his name decides to carve a name for himself through his achievement. And, so, he signs up for a marathon. His victory will also mean redemption for his coach...

Movie Review: What's in a name Shakespeare might have asked but for Kunjithapatham (Sivakarthikeyan) it is his own name that is the source of constant embarrassment. He has been giggled and mocked at right from his school days for a name that everyone immediately links to the male genital. And this 'cock'amamie reaches its climax when the neighbour girl whom he has been flirting with spurns him because of his name. So, on the advice of his friend Peter ( Sathish), Kunjithapatham goes for a name change and becomes Harish. And, lo, how his fortunes change! He gets a job (after losing one on account of his earlier name), a girl (who comes into his life moments after the change in name) and even a 42-inch LCD TV!
This good run almost comes to an end when people from his past and even Geetha ( Priya Anand), his girlfriend, bring up his original name back into the picture. So, Harish decides to create an identity for himself with his new name by signing up for a marathon. To his trainer Valli ( Nandita), a disgraced athlete, the win will mean redemption.
The first half of Ethir Neechal follows the current Tamil cinema formula of 'laughs first, plot next'. So, we spend the first 30 minutes laughing at Harish's plight in having a double entendre of a name. For the next half an hour, we laugh at his attempts to woo Geetha, a school teacher, using his landlord's overweight son as an excuse. So far so good as Durai Senthilkumar exploits the wisecracking happy-go-lucky guy persona of Sivakarthikeyan to keep us entertained. The air of casualness that the actor brings to the role endears us to his character. But Senthilkumar more or less exhausts his bag of gags at this point and so, when the actual plot kicks in, the mood turns sobre — not exactly in a good way. He introduces Valli, a natural athlete, who has become the victim of corruption in the system. But he prolongs this entire segment focusing more on Valli's father, piling on melodrama. This would have been bearable if there had been some detailing on how sports bodies function in our country but what we get is a black-and-white sub-plot of a scheming coach ( Ravi Prakash) thwarting the chances of a gifted athlete with money power.
By the time the focus gets back on Harish, we feel as if we have moved into a different screen and a different film. The climax, the all-important marathon, is shot in a manner that never creates tension. Harish's win is quite easy and very standard sports movie masala. There is no real challenger. Even his chief opponent — who is, unsurprisingly, the student of the coach who spoiled Valli's career — is nothing but a bully with less talent and more cunning.

Just finished watching the movie. Mediocre stuff. First half is fine with some funny moments(no rotfl scenes) but the second is very predictable. The flashback, training, final showdown - all fall flat without and twists or 'wow' moments. Sivakarthikeyan looks smart and has done well in the first half. The character needs to look innocent & he fits the bill but thats only till the moment he starts running. He looks lost in the last half hour or so. Dhanush's cameo is a bore.

Anirudh-Sivakarthikeyan's trip to Swiss

Young music composer Anirudh and upcoming actor Sivakarthikeyean were in Geneva Switzerland along with actor Satish for the success party of their film 'Ethir Neechal'. The trio seemed to have great fun during their trip and are happy to have had a break from their work schedule.
Exxpressing his happiness Anirudh Ravichander tweeted "Had a super break in Europe with @Siva_Kartikeyan and @actorsathish. Couldn't stop laughing throughout the trip."

watched the movie..nothing special in story..ther s no relation betn. 1st & 2nd half.. Nandhitha is luking better than Priya anand..

Nothing great. I think that sidekick seen in Thaandavam was the best amongst the hero/heroine.

Some scenes were decent, but frankly this is overhyped venture from Seefee.

Sivakarthikeyan isn't hero material. He's channeling his inner "Dhanush" when giving a performance. His comedies on TV are the best (especially his stint on NVOK.)

And Dhanush needs to stop captializing on this "kolaveri" craze. Irritating. Cannot believe this is a hit.

நீண்ட நாட்களாக தன்னுடன் பணியாற்றி வருபவரை இயக்குனராக்கி இருக்கிறார் ஏ.ஆர்.முருகதாஸ். 'எதிர் நீச்சல்' படத்தின் வெற்றியைத் தொடர்ந்து தொடர்ச்சியாக வாய்ப்புகள் வந்த போதும் ஏ.ஆர்.முருகதாஸ் கதை, திரைக்கதை என்றவுடன் உடனே ஒப்பந்தமாகி இருக்கிறார் சிவகார்த்திகேயன்.

இப்படத்தினை ஏ.ஆர்.முருகாதஸ் தனது தயாரிப்பு நிறுவனம் மூலம் தயாரிக்க, அனிருத் இசையமைக்க ஒப்பந்தமாகி இருக்கிறார்.
