There is an inspiring 4 way fight out for any top prize in Men's Tennis starting from this year. For the first time in like 8-9 years we had a different individual winning a grandslam this year. With an ageing Roger(31) still fighting like a champ against the mid 20's and a new warrior on the battle field in Murray things got spiced up last year. Not to mention the fact that Roger crossed 300 weeks as No 1 and took the 17th Grandslam in 2012 we have a New No 1 Djokovic and an return from injury fresh Nadal starting from AO 2013. Things just can't look better for Tennis right now.

Wow! What a match that was between Djoko and Wawrinka?I wish this should have been a final match where at least the loser gets enough appreciation and prize money. Hats off Wawrinka. Now that Djokovic has gone past his most difficult match up in the tourney successfully, I will not be surprised if he has a relatively easier path to finals. I tip him to win this slam. A probable match up with Murray in the final. Steffi Graf :: Waking up to the biggest surprise of the day, I got a chance this morning to catch the end of the epic battle between Djokovic and Wawrinka – brought back memories of last year’s final. Stanislas Wawrinka controlled early on leading 6-1, 5-2 until Djokovic found his rhythm and started playing more aggressive. The match stayed competitive all the way until the end but Djokovic, who always seems to have a physical edge over his opponents, claimed victory at 12-10 in the 5th. ATP not concerned about players' health, says Nadal

The 11-time Grand Slam winner said he doesn't expect major changes anytime soon, but thinks it's time tennis officials start thinking about ways to help improve the players' long-term health.

Sao Paulo: Rafael Nadal criticized the ATP on Tuesday for not doing enough to protect players' health, saying the increase in hardcourt events will lead to long-term injuries that will affect players long after they retire.

"The ATP worries too little about the players," said Nadal, who was in Brazil to play his second tournament after a long layoff from a left-knee injury. "It should care more for them."

The 11-time Grand Slam winner said he doesn't expect major changes anytime soon, but thinks it's time tennis officials start thinking about ways to help improve the players' long-term health.

"For future generations it would be good to see a less aggressive tennis life," he said. "Not only because of what happens during your career, but also because of what happens after your career, about how is your body when your tennis career is over."

Nadal said that because of the way tennis was played, he doesn't see himself being able to be a recreational athlete after his professional career.

"After ending the career it would be nice to be able to play football with friends, or tennis," he said. "But with this surface I don't think it's going to be possible."

The 26-year-old Nadal said hardcourts were "too tough" on players' bodies and made it impossible to keep them from getting hurt from time to time. Tennis is the only major sport where players have to play on cement, said the greatest clay-court player of the Open era, adding that it's an issue that doctors must get involved with, not only players.

"This is not a subject for the players, it's a matter for doctors," he said. "The ATP has to start thinking about ways to lengthen the players' careers. I can't imagine football players playing on cement, I can't imagine any other sport involving aggressive movements such as tennis being played on such aggressive surfaces such as ours. We are the only sport in the world making this mistake and it won't change."

Nadal also complained of the ATP's attempt to strictly enforce the 25-second rule between serves, saying it will not benefit the sport.

"People like to see great rallies, long matches, and for that to happen, the 25 seconds are not enough," he said. "If the ATP wants a sport which is faster but doesn't take into consideration a lot of strategy or great rallies, then it's right doing this. I think the players in the locker rooms are not very happy with that rule."

Nadal, who lost in the final of his first comeback tournament in Chile last week, said he was still not worried about wins and his main focus was to regain rhythm on the court.

"I need time, I need weeks of matches and practice," he said. "I'm not prepared to think about titles yet, I'm thinking day-to-day. After so many months without playing it's hard to think about titles."

Nadal said he is still feeling pain in his knee but it's getting better.

"There are days in which it hurts and it limits me physically, but there are days when it's better," he said. "During the bad days it's complicated. But it's positive because a month ago maybe 80 percent of the days were bad, now it's 70 percent of the days and next week or within a month it will probably be 50 percent."

Nadal dismissed changing his style to try to extend his career.

"I'm not that good to be able to reprogram my style, I only have one, it's virtually impossible to change it," he said. "I'm confident that my body will hold up. I'm not sure it will happen next week, or next year, but I'm confident that it will be like before again."

He said he wants to be fully fit to play at the 2016 Rio Olympics, which he acknowledged will likely be his last.

"Playing in 2016 is a long-term goal but it's very real," he said. "I will be working daily to make sure I can play in 2016 and play well."

Nadal won his first-round doubles tie with David Nalbandian on Tuesday, and will play his first singles game on Thursday.

From so far watching experiences on Nadal's style/strategy of play, I could summarize my views as below.

1) if any one else other than Nadal playing against Djokovic, they could be attempting Djokovic's forehand returns only 50%.but it's Nadal who could attempt any winners. In simple words, most of the winners from opponents became losers by Nadal.

2) Nadal is so defensive in his shots. 95% of time, he will just push the ball to post service line. That's the key for his success and he makes sure the opponent not attempting any smashes from service box and that time delay wil help Nadal to adjust his position to attend the next forehand/backend to-be-winner deliveries from opponents.

3) The rest 5% of the shots, that's where we all could see how effective Nadal's foot positioning and his offensive cross line fore hand winners! Unbelievable! When I was talking to one tennis coach last week, we talked about the best player tennis world so far produced in terms of foot adjustments on field. While I voted Nadal as best we seen, he replied "he could be one from men; but overall I would rate Steffi as be best in this aspect and keep Nadal as the second!". They both can run from left corner service line to a right corner of service line viceversa and then attempt for a cross court forehand. Beauty.

This is all the more remarkable considering the fact that Rafa's knee problems are secondary to a congenital foot deformity. To quote Uncle Toni [The Australian. August 18, 2012], "I have never spoken about this but Rafael had an injury in 2005 that was very serious." "The doctor said he cannot play any more. He has a congenital problem in his foot. He had to use special shoes and orthotics to change the way he lands with his feet. Because of having the orthotics, this has caused problems in his knees and his back. "The year he won the Australian Open in 2009, we couldn't finish one training session because of the pain. He couldn't finish one training session in the whole month of December because of the pain."

Steve Darcis, the 135th-ranked Belgian who beat two-time champion Nadal in straight sets on Monday in one of Wimbledon's greatest upsets, pulled out because of a right shoulder injury.

Darcis, who had been scheduled to play Lukasz Kubot of Poland, said he hurt his shoulder while diving for a shot in the first set against Nadal.

"After the match, a few hours after, I start to feel so much pain, I couldn't sleep that night," he said. "I saw the physio, the doctor, yesterday. They did a good job. It's a little bit better today. But no chance I can play. I cannot serve. It makes no sense to go on the court to withdraw after two games."

Darcis had become an overnight sensation after beating the eight-time French Open champion and holder of 12 Grand Slam titles.

2. This is the only tournament that is still played on the sport's original surface-grass. Earlier, the Australian Open and US Open that are played on hard court now and French Open that is played on clay were played on grass. Hence, tennis is called lawn tennis.

7. The Centre Court has survived a War World II bombing and now boasts of a roof that prevents rain delays from causing scheduling problems during the tournament.

Because tennis is an expensive sport. It's not just as simple as going out there and enjoying himself, there's a whole entourage that has to accompany him, equipment and all that. And if a player is losing more often than not, even the drill of training everyday can get tiresome. And here I am only repeating observations many players from different sports have made around the time of retirement or after it. They said the monotony of training sapped them once they consistently failed to win.

However, Federer has already announced his desire to play in Brisbane international next year to warm up better for Aus Open 2014. He is also experimenting with a new racquet. So unless his mindset changes drastically, these strongly suggest he will play at least up to next year, if not longer. Nevertheless, his last hurrah, if there is to be one beyond Wimb 2012, may be near now. Steffi Graf lost badly through 1997 and took a break before coming back post surgery. But she only lasted a little beyond Wimb 99 anyway. Hopefully, Federer can have that kind of year one last time before he signs off but it's not written and it's going to be tough against this field.

During the whole match, Rafa had difficulty dealing with Isner's 140+ mph (225+ km/h) serves. The match was so close that it could have gone either way. Isner said a few days ago that beating Djokovic in the quarterfinals was the greatest moment in his tennis career, but his performance today was amazing too. At the end, patience and persistence helped Rafa win his first Cincinnati trophy. Congratulations to both players for a superbly played and thrilling match!
