They were copying the stories, copying the songs, copying the styles of popular actors. copying comedy scenes etc.. Now remaking the popular films ie., copying the entire film scene by scene. When the old film is available in good condition, why do they want to remake? What happened to the remakes Mappillai, Murattukaalai etc. Naan avanillai might be a hit. Just because Billa was a hit, every body wants to remake Rajini films or whether the actors want to become next Rajini? Whether the remakes of Mappillai, Murattukaalai have not taught them any lesson? Leave the good films as it be. Don't spoil them by remaking. Siva is not a comedy actor and he cannot present the comic situation like Rajini in Thillu Mullu. Prakashraj is basically a villain actor. He cannot perform like 'Thengai' Seenivaasan as he is basically a comedian. Even though MSV joined hands with Yuvan S Raja, we cannot expect the same kind of output for this new ThilluMullu. I wish TFI to stop all these non-sense.

Billa was a masala, so anybody can remake that. I was really thrilled that it was Ajith who chose to remake that as opposed to the talentless copycat, Jai Akash. Thillu Mullu was directed by one of the best ever in TF and is still revered as a classic by many. See the freakin' difference? It's like Bharath acting in Karnan remake. Again nobody would bother if Bharath chooses to remake thirisoolam.

In my opinion, Universal plots should be remade. Billa could be remade after 30 years. Ranga (minus sister sentiment) and Vikram (minus usage of alien langauges) are worth noting to be remade.
Mapillai & Muratu Kalai are exemples for remaking "Outdated plots". Thillu Mullu is an outdated Plot : They tried it in "Bol Bachan" and was not at all funny. The current generation audiences are not ready to accept the plot of a single man changing his identity by just shaving his mustache.
But I was just wondering how they are going to recreate TVS 50 climax and Mount Road of 80s.
Casting : All said about Rajini vs Shiva or Prakash Raj vs Sreevasan. But if you watch Thillu Mullu each character is unique. For Ex: I dont think they could find a any replacement actor for that kid who played the assistant to Nagesh - Kaja
Anyway, Should give a chance to whoever came up with the idea of remaking Thillu Mullu.

My two cents, may be silly though.

Let them remake whatever they want, but let them not touch the title. If they have the guts to remake an old classic, why can't they have guts to change the title, so that the classic remains as such. Main reason being, if any one wants to know about the classics like Thillu Mullu, Nenjaththai KiLLaathe et al, they should not end up in getting the wrong and unworthy ones and believe that as a classic.

Atleast change the title to Thillu Mullu (revival) or something of that sort, so that classic is untouched.

Unlike action movies, I think it's difficult to remake comedy movies. Somewhere I read even Kadhalikka Neramillai is also being remade. Ippo Aan Paavam vera. Eppadi antha comedy timing and actors chemistry remajke panna mudiyum. Thillumullu konjam nadagam maathiri irunthaalum, ethana thadava TV'la vanthaalum paakaama irukka mudiyaathu. One small scene, but I like much is Chandran's intro, playing with pocket watch, opening the gate stylishly and entering Coconut's house. Spoof pannama serious-a, I mean comedy-a edukkaraangalaanu paapOm. Remake panna koodiya padangal-na, ippo tak-nu mind-la varathu 'Thee' with Ajith doing both the roles and 'Satya' with Vikram.

எங்கோ எட்டாத இடத்தில் இருப்பதை இறக்குமதி செய்து தமிழனுக்குத் தருவது தவறில்லை. ஆனால் மூன்று வருஷத்துக்கு முன் அவன் தமிழில் பார்த்ததையே திரும்பவும் தருவதென்றால் அது வரவேற்கக்கூடியதா?. (எப்போதுமே ரீமேக் என்பது, முந்ததைவிட மாற்றுக்குறைவுதான்).

Badri Nadri all will demolish adhu vERa vishayam. But Mirchi feller is quite apt for this role.

We ppl must feel happy for not having Ram Gopal Varma in our industry. This guy remade his own 1989 hit Shiva, in 2005(The new Shiva was produced by him and directed by his asst). Bomb. Dissatisfied with the results, he re-re-made the movie in 2006 with the same hero and heroine and named it 'James', this time directing it himself. Bomb again. Idhepdi Irukku?

At the minimum, I'm really happy that the 'meeNdum thillumullu' team had chosen to credit MSV (and possibly also monetarily compensate him). He was possibly paid peanuts when he did the originals and anything that he gets out of this new project is some kind of royalty.

Which is much better than either using his melodies as their own or remixing them with no acknowledgement / compensation.

Nadagathanam ellaam irundhich, aanaalum TM kandippa classic dhaan-ga :-) Much better than RK's other comedies - Thambikku Endha Ooru, Guru Sishyan or Veera. Simla Special is what I would call a boring stage drama (even those non-stage scenes)

Thanks. I thought the Hindi Shiva was just a dubbed version. Even the actors (other than Paresh Rawal) are same right?

And, yes. James was a remake of Shiva(1989) and Shiva(2006) was a remake of James. RGV was not satisfied with the first remake and made another.

Agreed. But the character is more important than the track record of the person essaying it.
I too feel prakash raj would over-do at many places and will not keep the tempo and clamness of Thengai Sreenivasan (this particular characterisation was a major boost for the comedy).
Just sinking in to accept Shiva as the lead actor, think he would come out performing well. He has the "nakal" of Indhiran already. Got to see how he does as Chandran.

Babu, just out not giving much thought : I suggest Thambi Ramaiya. He has got a good body language, dialogue delivery and more over prominent eyes to do this kind of comedy.

Thillu Mullu (2013) - the LOL movie

Another comedy movie that I liked watching. The best part of the movie are the dialogues, kudos to dialogue writer Balaji. I havent seen the original movie, and have no clear intensions to watch either. Among characters Prakashraj impressed me most. Shiva is being his usual self, which still is working. Its not easy for Rj to get success on big screen. Isha is hot as hell. Kovai Sarala, Ilavarasu Manobala need no mention, they are very good as supporting actors.

I like Aaja Aaja song most, but the MV dissapointed me. Title song Thillu Mullu doesnt impress, me,they could have made a trendy video instead of making a sentimental video by making MSV appear on it.

Director Badri has played safe bet, and won the bet.

Kudos to Badri for using only the plot and making it appeal to today's audience. The movie and the actors are no match to the original but as a stand alone product, the remake is watchable.
