Dear R
Kadala is not kabuli channa . its a different type of channa only, brown in colour and smaller than kabuli channa. this kadala curry is served with puttu in kerala.

Thanks anjana. We use to say black kabuli channa (karuppu kondakadalai in tamil), that is what, you meant, I think.
So, kadala curry and kothu kadala are same because in hotels, they serve kuzha puttu with kothu kadala?

But what is kothu kadala ?

Neither I see them nor taste them. But, heard the menu in Saravana bhavan(chennai), the combination for kuzha puttu is kothu kadala. Since it sounds tasty, use to wonder about the recipes.
Someday shd go and try when I visit chennai.

Hi Anjana,
Tried kadala curry two times w/2.o coconut milk, it was really superb and tasty. I actually ground one part of kadala and another portion as a whole.
Me and my hub., use to hate the kala channa and we always prefer to eat white channa. After this kadala curry, we keep stock always on kala channa. Thanks a lot!!
