Koottu or curry
ingredients
Murungaikai 2 cut in 3inch pieces and split in the middle
Oninon 1 - chopped
Dried red chilli cut into pieces
Curry leaves
Fenugreek 1tb sp
Chilli powder 1tb sp
Cummin powder 1tb sp
Tumeric 1t sp
Salt
oil
Heat the oil in a fry pan and add fenugreek first and then onion, curry leaves and red chilli. Fry until golden.
Add drumstick pieces and fry for two minutes.
Add Tumeric powder, chilli powder and cummin powder and fry for another minute.
Now add salt and enough water just to cover the drumsticks. Put the lid on and let the drumsticks cook for about 10 minutes.
Stir the curry and taste for salt.
If you like thick gravy add little milk.
Enjoy with rice.

Hi Shoba,
My mother used to make murugangakkai varuval and i use to finish them all by myself. I don't know the exact measurements of the ingredients, but i can tell how to make them. Here you go...
Drumstick fry:
Half cook the drumsticks with required salt and split them or just make a open. Then grind red chillies and cumin seeds with little shredded coconut and shallots(chinna vengayam). Heat required oil in a pan and fry chopped shallots and then add the ground paste and drumstick to it and fry untill it is done.

Hi R,
Ofcourse you can use frozen drumsticks(no other way)and there's no need to deep fry. You can shallow fry them as you do for other vegies and see that the masala is coated evenly on the d.sticks.

Hi KH!
Today I tried the varuval recipe you posted. It was excellent. The only complaint from the family was that it was too tedious to eat the vegetable! But the taste was very good...thanks!

Hi Shoba,

Hi KH!
I think the main reason is laziness! You know, other vegetables when you cook and serve, all the eater has to do is put it in their mouth, taste it, relish it, chew and swallow, right? With murunggakka, you cant do that! Either you have to take each one and remove the flesh inside with your fingers, or slide the split open piece over your bottom row of teeth, or put entire pieces and chew and chew. I guess people are always in a hurry, and when they are hungry, and when the taste is good, they need to get the food immediately into their belly!!! They all agreed the taste was fantastic..but it was too time consuming it seems! So far I have used murunggakka in saambaar, and avial and koottu, where there are other vegetables as well, but this is the first time I'm cooking it on its own as a dish by itself.

Hi Shoba,
Now i can get why they said so!!! And yeah i agree to what you say, in this mechanical world everybody is in hurry chasing their own goals and dreams and sometimes even feel lazy or forget to take food. But i'm really happy that everybody liked it. Hope we'll meet often in the forum. see ya, bye!
Cheers

Hi Subra,
My mom used to make pavakkai fry( chips ) which is not that bitter. slice pavakkai as u do for potato chips thin slices. soak them in buttermilk as it will take off the bitter taste.
then add chilli powder, salt and turmeric powder and marinate it for half hr, then squeeze them and deep fry in batches till light brown colour.
u can store it in airtight container.
try it and let me know.

Hi Subra,
I'm glad that you liked the varuval, thanks for ur feed back. As for pavakkai, i remmeber my mom use to prepare fry. All you have to do is fry them till dark golden brown, may be in final stage you can add a piece of jaggery to it. Anyway, i'll let u know after i talk to my mom next time!
