i have an ultra tabletop wet grinder but hardly use it as it is very difficult to clean. but i want to start making idli/dosas/uthappams. i have a few questions:
1. can we put the grinding stone in the dishwasher?
2. can i grind rice and dal together or do i have to grind them seperate?
3. how long do i need to soak the rice and dal?
4. how long can i keep the batter?

If you have the batter cleaning system then cleaning the stones is very easy. we sell batter cleaning system separately for $10+ $5 S&H.
1. Do not use the grinding stones in the dishwasher. wash it by the hand. use the batter cleaning system to wipe out the dough sticking to the stones. Then put the grinding stone in the vessel and lock it and add 1/2 cup water and run the machine for 30 seconds. This cleans out the rest of the dough in the grooves and then you can just wash it in the sink.
2. you have to grind rice and dhal separately for better results.
3. soak the rice 4-6 hrs. Dhal 1-2 hrs.

4. you can keep the dough in the refrigerator for 7-10 days to make the dosas. The stored dough is not good for making idlies.
