Hi. In books and in Indian restaurants I've seen beautiful metal platters where a dish is served separate from the rice.

Does anybody know where I can find such plates on the web?

  By googling I could get hold of one thali-plate manufacturer only. I think they manufacture in India. Why can't you email them as ask if they are exporting to US and can they provide with the retail sellers list. That way you can find out if there are any retailers near your place.
  
  If you want only a few catch hold of any Indian and request him to buy them when he goes to India next!
