Hi Senthil!
I tried your pappu recipe that you mentioned under the Kovakka thread; I used baby podavalngga (snake gourd) and it was really, really tasty! I presume this is an Andra delight, no? Thanks a lot for the recipe!
Hi Anjana!
I was cracking my head to figure out what van payar was in English and suddenly it dawned on me that it's Black eyed peas (white karaamani in Tamil perhaps?) and not Red Gram, which is thuvaram paruppu. We make it just the way you do minus the onion and with black eyed peas, and it goes by the name "Koottu Curry" which is an Onam speciality. Just sharing a few thoughts...hope you dont mind!
Best Regards,
Shoba

Hi Anjana,
Thanks for link-now I'm wondering whether there is a regional difference for this koottu-curry thing! There's another variation of maththangga erisherri-with pepper, green chillies and of course coconut ;)! Have you come across this type? My late mother used to make this in rather large quantities coz it was so tasty!
Couldnt help noticing the dot sg in your email-are you in S'pore :)? I am, by the way...
