Hi folks,
My sister-in-law is suffering from high BP; though she is relaxed, during some instances like while she's late for work or her child troubles her or when some matter upsets her daily routine, she feels very heavy-headed and sometimes even has vision problems. Even while she was on medication, she had these tension head aches & had to rest often, even in office!
Can anybody please suggest what kind of foods help in reducing the pressure? She avoids pickles, chips etc. & reduces salt also & is really desperate for a solution.
Any helpful suggestion is very appreciated.
Lots of Thanks,
Kamakshi.

Hello Kamakshi!
Have yr sister-in-law gone to an opthalmologist? You have described that she is suffering from headaches with vision problems even though she is on medication for BP. People who are suffering from glaucoma [which is a dangerous eye problem] have these symptoms such as severe headaches, vision problems and vomiting.

Hi
heavy headedness & vision blurs could be due to high BP.as suggested by Mrs.Mano consult Opth.
Breathing exercises esp Pranayama type will be very helpful.Pranayama be learnt from a master who will take into account her capacity to hold the air and release.should not be learnt as group.as the capacity to hold the air varies from person to person. Then negative feelings and continuous mind chattering be avoided with a good rest and sleep.

Thanks very much Mrs.Mano, arrem and Idiappam for your responses.
Yes, my sister-in-law first visited only an opthalmologist. But her eyes were good & had no problem and so, she was referred to a general physician for BP analysis. She was advised AGAINST MEDITATION because they said it would increase her headaches !!!!
Idiappam, is there any common name for Nilavembu. I enquired among my friends and also in one Tamil shop here but nobody has even heard of it. How should it be consumed?
Thanks,
Kamakshi.

NilavEmbu (botanical name: Andrographis paniculata) - is a herbaceous plant not exceeding half a metre in hieght, commonly found growing in many Chinese homes along corridors in Singapore. They use this for 'cooling' purposes.
This plant that is common in the tropics - sometimes wrongly called periyAnangai (bot: Polygala elongata) in Singapore and Malaysia!
View pictures of the nilavEmbu at:

The leave are extremely bitter (but the best medicines are bitter, anyway). Decoction in hot water of 5 to 10 nilavembu leaves taken every morning for a period of at least 2 months and continues for at least 6 months. Gradual improvement in BP would be noted. Another hubber used this for BP control and report good results - View the thread names 'Sodium reducing herbs!

Perhaps you can email, Madam KalaChandra, to find out more!
The plant is non-toxic, has no side effect, and harmless, though overdose may cause excessive bowel movements and loose stool. But is a common
problem with most 'overdoses' of chlorophyl even of green vegetables. Perhaps this minor side-effect is a benifit rather than an inconvenience.
This plants is also avaiable in Chinese Native Medicine shops, dried and in capsulated forms! If you have such a shop near your place, then go for it - much easier - but please provied the vendor with the Chinese name 'Chuan Xin Lian' - see:

Perhaps yes! Mr S.!
A Gambeeranaatai keerthanai sung by Chembai Vaidyanatha Baghavathar may help too, in reducing blood pressure!
