Siva in my family, we use it to prepare pickles.
We dribble it on thosai, on thosai podi, we also use it when we cook tamarind rice.My mum-in-law will even use it when she prepares some curries.
Lastly we have our oil baths with nallenna.
I think groundnut oil is called kadalai ennai.
Sorry if I am wrong. Thanks.

You are right, Kavitha. Nowadays, I have started using it in my day today cooking. Except for deep frying, use only nalla ennai for rest of the cooking.

Hi Siva,
Kavitha Ravi & R are wright.NALLENNAI is SESAME oil and its also called GINGELY OIL in India.
In original Tamil it's called ELLU ENNAI.
ELLU(In tamil) = SESAME SEEDS(In English)
ENNAI(In tamil) = Oil in english
its realy good for health (especialy good for heart). So our ancestors called ELLU ENNAI as NALLA ENNAI(GOOD OIL).
So Nowadays its called NALLENNAI.

Siva,
To my knowledge, Yes it is very good for cholesterol!!
Above statement also has given by Apollo hospital heart surgeon in a magazine.
But moderation is the key(just like any oils).Use it for regular cooking(seasonings, sauteing) and avoid deep frying (Because it don't have higher smoking point) .
If you are concern about cholesterol use nallenai for regular cooking.
Avoid deep frying at all or once ina while use any groundnut/corn/vegitable oils.
Use cold pressed extra virgin olive oil(AVOID it for heating purposes) for salads etc.Make chapathis without oil, when it comes to warm stage/beforeserving rub with olive oil.Hope this helps you a little bit!
