  I'm sorry, but the Malayalam New Year "Vishu" is on the 14th of April, which is the first day of Medam. The Tamil New Year is on the 13th of April, which is the first day of Chiththira maasam. The Keralities follow the Lunar calendar and the Tamilians follow the Solar calendar...and some years both the New Years coincide and fall
  on the 14th of April.

  I am a malayali christain and as a kid I did go to a malayali hindu's house to celebrate vishu. I know it is a malayali festival. But,why do we celebrate vishu and Tamizh Varshapirappu. Is vishu a new year ? Is Tamizh Varshapirappu another name for vishu? What are the special dishes we make on these days. I really want to make them at home this time.Please advice.
