Dr. Kadaaram - Is Kedah a PAS stronghold? <<<<<
It is.
Out of the 15 parliamentary seats, PAS got 8 and the BN got 7. But in the Assembly, it was 12 against 24.
They are good people alright.
I have worked with them almost continuously for 26 years in all their states except between '81-'84 when I was in Johore.
>>>>That's a scary thought! :) <<<<<
Not if you know them well.
>>>>>KitKat is based in Kemaman, Terengganu. Oil rich but cash empty. :)<<<<<
I have been there a long time ago. He can always drive down to Kuantan for good Indian food.
Coming back to the thread-
New Madras Hotel seems to have been upgraded.
'Jay Hind' in Malay Street, in Little India sells good chappathis with side dishes. The paal kOva is tasty. They are also noted for Punjabi sweets.
But the place is delapidated. If they do it up, it should be alright.
At the T-junction of Jalan Mesjid India at the other end, there is huge shopping complex. In the basement, you have a food court. Nearly sixty stalls(gerai). Some of them sell good Indian food.

Well I do frequent them for that devine Lassi, butter naan and sweets. Of course I dont forget to pack some samosa's with pudhina chutney for the travel down home:-)

Indian to talk about Malaysian politics?
Aalai vidunga! :)
Dr. JayBee - Oru kaalaththin naanum ungalai poalthaan... :)
Back to topic:
Sri Paandi Restaurant in Brickfields have spruced up! Not only it is cleaner, they have also extended the menu. And they have also opened another branch right opposite the existing one.
Best known for their Chettinad specialities, their poori kilangu and idly chutney are second to none.
Another new eatery has opened in Brickfields area, called Seetha Raam Restaurant. Their speciality seems toi be vegetarian food, and one can get vege nasi lemak, burgers, and the works.
For the best laddoos in town visit Vidhyas in JKL (Old Klang Rd.) They also sell heavenly halwas (4 different types) besides other Indian sweets. Bad for your health, however. :)

in the u.s., in beaverton in oregon, five years ago i ate at an indian restaurant that served real south indian delicacies like Uththappam, idiyAppam, ... . i donot remember the name. is it still there?
also, i am yet to find one really good indian restaurant in the u.s. i have traveled fairly well. in all the indian restaurants i have been to, either the food sucks or the attitude sucks or both. does anyone know of any place where one could get good food with decent service? how is the scenario in england?

Well,if you do not mind the monotony among
the entre`e,these places are not too bad, that
too in places where you do not expect to see
any Indian food joints.
1) Delhi Palace at Flagstaff,Arizona.
This place is being run by 3 Punjabi Ladies.
The place is always clean and the people
are friendly.a + the food seems to be less oily
than usual.
(these ppl have a branch at Scenic "Sedona",Az
some 30 miles south of Flagstaff)
2) Delhi Palace at Tempe,Arizona.
'Place isn't too clean but the food is good.
The Sartharjees' go out of their ways to be
friendly. On a sour note: In the blistering
Phoenix summer heat these guys need to use deodorant though :(
3) India Palace @ Albuquerque,New Mexico.
Has been clean in all my visits. The owners
(couple) supposedly cook all the main dishes.
The service is good too.The waiters do treat
Indians in par with Caucasians!
To find out more, go thro' the old responses

thanks. yes i forgot to add the monotony of entre! (as they say, everything tastes like ... everything else :-) ). You wrote about India Palace in Albuquerque: "The waiters do treat Indians in par with Caucasians!". So it's a must see place in NM!!!
I was in LA recently. I think the LA Department of Health is as corrupt as the LAPD. They have given "A" Certification to third rate restaurants! sigh sigh ...

Do let us know about more veg. restaurants in and around KL and Pj.
- From: NOV (@ ptl-cache6.jaring.my)
on: Sat Oct 21 00:29:31 EDT 2000
Nirupamababu - There are so many!
Bagsar is a haven for vegetarian food; you have Annalakshmi, Madras New Woodlands and one more Chettinad Unavagam. There is also the House of Thosai, which serves more than 25 kinds of thosai, although it is not purely vegetarian.
Sunway has Chakra's Place, where you can get Malaysian mixed rice, totally vegetarian.
And don't forget Govindas in Masjid India, KL.
There is also a lovely shop in Tengku Kelana in Klang which specialises in vegetarian food.

This reminds me of the "Govinda's" @ Tucson,Az
thats being run by ISCKON.
They use to have a wonderful all you can eat
buffet dinner for $8.95.You can check the yellow
pages for the exact location. Its easy to find,
couple of blocks east of the main st "Oracle Road".
Not only the food! with peacocks and some
rare parrots in the garden you can stroll
around a bit, relax before walking into the
buffet room.
During my last visit I ate this" vegetable
stroganoff" there.It sure tasted heavenly!
Sort of similar to "aviyal" yet less spicy
and delicious.

The Govinda's in Masjid India , KL is also run by disciples of ISKCON, if you are lucky you can even witness bhajans in the premises in the evenings.
