I have a 3-1/2 year old daughter. She seems to like Chappathis only when it is soft. I buy from a neighbour who is a gujarathi lady.
I want to know how to make it myself. Can somebody suggest me how to do it at home by myself?? Thanks in advance,
SUN

Hello sun
I promise...by the following way u will get wonderful soft chapathis.
Atta flour - 4 cups
butter 1/4 stick(u can reduce butter by half if u want)
salt to taste
In a large bowl take the atta and salt mix.
Make butter soft by placing in room teperature for 10 mins
Now add the butter in the flour and mix well.
Add water little at a time and knead. Make a dough which should not stick. It should be like soft but no stick. Keep this dough in a coverd pot for 2 to 3 hrs.
Then roll on and put it on the dosai kal. turn over the chapathi when it is light brown under side.
Note: You may not want to dust the flour during rolling..if u can't roll then dust some flour.
Like the same if u want to add oil on the dosai kal..then do that..
Try and let me know...

Hi Hemant
I am newly married and my chapatis last week at my in-laws place turned out to be a disaster, when I finished kneading it was soft and I was able to make perfectly round ones,I dipped in flour and rolled but when I placed on the tava they turned out stiff!!!I used Pakistani flour and it is winter where I am (-3°C),does the temperature have to do anything, how can I make my cahpatis soft,Mine is an electric stove.Pls advise.I visited ur site but I am not sure if it will come right. Pls advise.

to make soft chapathis knead the atta with milk at room temp, instead of water. u may add a tsp of ghee or butter towards the end of kneading. this will prevent the dough from sticking to the fingers.
